Bug#321911: destar: does not work out of the box - missing config file

2005-08-07 Thread Paul Wise
Package: destar
Version: 0.0.167-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The destar package is missing a config file. When I install quixote and
destar, and visit http://localhost:8080/ in my browser, I get the
following python traceback. Please add a sane default config file
to /etc/asterisk/destar_cfg.py. Just an empty file seems to be fine.

I also note that it is listening on all network interfaces and not just
localhost. It is probably a good idea to make this localhost only, since
it seems you can change stuff without authenticating in any way.

I wouldn't feel well if I would move around configuration and data
files from other packages. postgis itself should do that.

Alex, what do you think about the following solution: postgis postinst
performs the transition if necessary, so that the juggling of data
files stays in the package it belongs to (this might also affect other
packages, and accumulating them all in the postgresql transition
package would be a bit insane). The version that does the
transition conflicts to postgresql (<< 7.5). The postgresql transition
package (postgresql 7.5.x) adds a conflict to every postgis version
smaller than the one that supports migration, so that users always
have to upgrade both at the same time.

Thanks,

Martin

Hello Mark,

After filing that bug, I restarted the printer. This particular
printing works (again?) with hpoj. So, I guess it is no longer a
conflict between hplip and hpoj.

Please ignore this bug, therefor. I'll investigate it further.

I changed the localhost tcp one to md5 not because ident is insecure,
but because you actually need an identd running for this, which is not
the default nowadays any more. I don't know any people who actually
want to run one, but if there are some, they can still switch back, so
I think md5 suits the majority of users better.

What do you think?

This dummy package is present in sarge, etch and sid. As this is a dummy
transition-only package (for woody), is there any reason this package
should still exist in the distribution? Notice that we currently
only support upgrade paths from stable (currently sarge) to
"new stable" (currently etch) and in both these distributions
this package is a dummy package. For more information read the
Release Notes [1].

If this package is no longer required, please ask for its removal by
reassigning this bug to ftp.debian.org. If you want to provide
upgrade paths for woody for the time being please don't forget to
remove this package before etch is frozen.

Regards

Javier

Bug#317315: imp4 bug #317315 - stable package

There are no planned release date. The problem with stable is that
it is stable, and for a very long time. It took over two or three
years to release the current stable version.

But as I have understood this bug is quite annoying and as such
I can try to escalate it for the release managers so they include
it to next revision update of the stable version. Such updates
"only" take some months. I do not know if there are any release
dates.

Until then you can use the deb from testing as it will work
just fine on sarge.

// Ola

This is a missing feature (aka bug) in bazaar, that's (aiui) fixed in
the upcoming 1.5 release. The only real work around is to use "baz
undo" to undo all changes to the working tree, then re-add the files and
do a bare "baz commit" to commit the add, then use patch or baz redo to
replay the other changes to the tree. So, yeah, sorry for now, but
it'll be fixed soon :)

I believe you are talking about a custom kernel here, yes? Because with
the Debian kernel, and using module-assistant as recommended, it is not
necessary to build the kernel. And even with a custom kernel, it is not
necessary to rebuild after installing loop-aes-source. So I would still
add something like this in the first paragraph:

. . . are not sufficient. (However, you will not have to rebuild
your kernel to use the loop-aes module.)

Perhaps that seems obvious in light of the instructions, but personally,
when I see that kernel source is required, I jump to the conclusion that
I will need to rebuild.

I haven't tried it, from what I can read, that sounds like a good way to
go.

Hm, I'm not sure how to handle this. Just popping up an editor for
every commit seems silly, and a config option seems excessive. Perhaps
it should cache the commit arguments somehow, and only invalidate the
++log file if they change, which is what you suggest. I'll see how hard
it is to implement/make someone else implement.

The system has two IDE drives and a DVD-RW not being used for the

GB Seagate drives, the first of which is being used for the
installation. The installation hangs before partitioning at "Scanning

udpkg --configure --force-configure partman
/bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/partman.postinst configure
/bin/sh /bin/partman
/bin/sh /lib/partman/init.d/30parted

I think perhaps parted is hanging.

Since it works fine for me, the ldd output of firefox-bin shows the
linkage and the package has the dependency, I think the problem is
local to your system. What's in your /etc/ld.so.conf file?

I don't think it's silly at all. First of all, I'm making a request,
I'm not demanding they do this. Firefox has 306 open bugs (well, 271
if you don't count merged bugs), so it's a fairly buggy (and popular)
piece of software. Especially in the case of random feature requests,
it's merely taking time away from fixing other bugs, to having to
forward them upstream. So if the submitter really cares about the
feature, they can spend a little more time sending it upstream instead
of just creating busy work for the maintainer. I've provided a link to
the submission page, and bugzilla is a pretty standard and popular bug
tracking system (even though I don't particularly like it, and many
are of the same opinion). Do you really think people will be so
discouraged that they'll give up all together instead of just filing
the Debian bug.

Are you volunteering to join such a team? There is already a team of
two, myself and my co-maintainer Mike Homey (he's been a bit inactive
until recently). I'm always open and appreciative to people helping
with bug triage, but very few have come forward to help. Mike is an
example of someone who stepped forward to help fix some tricky bugs,
and became a co-maintainer when he asked.

Bug#321896: Incorrect security info on AMD64 page

2005-08-07 Thread Ross Combs
Package: www.debian.org
Version: n/a

The security support for the AMD64 port is still (apparently) not
in place. However the only information on www.debian.org says that
it is. Following the instructions provided on the site is dangerous
because no security updates will be applied.

Specifically, this page:
 http://www.debian.org/ports/amd64/

says:

"The stable release of the unofficial port is based on unpatched Sarge
sources and has full security support by the Debian Security Team. The
Debian-Backports and -Volatile services are fully supported, too.

 ...

The Debian Security Team supports updates to the unofficial Sarge
release, which are made available on security.debian.org."

Suggested correction is to put all of the "official" wording in future
tense ("will support updates ..."), and the add the correct location to
give apt to obtain the fixes now.

Additionally, the correct location can not be found by searching
debian.org for announcements. The last announcement on the subject
(from _May_ of 2005) says the same as the AMD64 port page: go to
security.debian.org. I had to ask on LWN to get the real answer.
Another reader responded:

 http://lwn.net/Articles/144530/

"Goswin von Brederlow answered this question in
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-amd64/2005/07/msg00347.html.

'We are waiting on James Troup to activate amd64 on the security
servers. The buildd is otherwise setup and running.

For the time being all security builds are uploaded to
sarge-proposed-updates on amd64.debian.net and people should add
that to the sources.list for now and just till sec.d.o gets
  reconfigured for us.'
"

That mailing list post was a month ago. It doesn't appear the
security servers will activate amd64 any time soon so it would be
better to update the documentation to not point to them for AMD64.

Thanks,
-Ross

Commenting out the line

os.close(2)

in /usr/share/fsh/fshd.py seems to fix the problem.

Hi,

I was checking changelogs of a few packages and noticed the new format
of the changelog display pages. The new style looks more lively than the
earlier text-only pages, with the convenient navigation index on the
right side of the page (the "outline" class div).

I wanted to bring a small bug to your notice. The title for each of the
list element in the outline class has & in it. E.g. on
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/non-free/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers/nvidia-graphics-drivers_1.0.7174-4/changelog
the title list elements in outline class is as under

title="Randall Donald <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mon, 18 Jul
2005 14:30:46 -0700"

Which renders it in the browser as:

title="Randall Donald <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mon, 18 Jul 2005
14:30:46 -0700"

The & before lt; and gt; is unnecessary. It should be < and >
- - the HTML entities in the code. The & gets translated to the
ampersand character entity when the browser reads it thus leaving lt;
part as text. The correct string for the title should be:

title="Randall Donald <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mon, 18 Jul 2005
14:30:46 -0700"

If you are not trying to display the email address as
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, please disregard the above suggestion.

My take on the email address in the list element title:

Well, as every changelog entry has the email address of the developer,
having the email again in the title for the list items is kind of
redundant. It doesn't serve any purpose in the title of each list
element. We are actually using up more bandwidth adding the name and
email address of the developer in the title. Were we recently looking
for webhosting sponsors for some debian servers! I think just having the
date and time would be sufficient information.

Regards,
/KDS

Hello,

http://packages.debian.org/stable/index.nl.html has unknown characters
in it (question marks) due too wrong character encoding.
The character encoding sent by the http server is UTF-8 but the encoding
of the html document is ISO-8859-1.
The original document index.en.html is encoded in UTF-8.
Is it possible to change the encoding of the nl document in UTF-8 to
solve this problem.
The same problem is also present for the testing, unstable and oldstable
page.

Thanks,
Pascal

uhm, I think I've found the real culprit for this bug. libtunepimp2
0.3.0-4 is severely broken; please downgrade it to 0.3.0-3 available
from:

Please let me know whether this does help or not, thanks.

I will fix this bug when all the necessary build-dependencies have
  undergone their C++ ABI transition.

Bug#321888: merge is overly picky

2005-08-07 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: normal

Tried to merge two bugs from the same source, but they happened to be
filed on different binary packages:

> merge 320987 318066
Bug#318066: libsoqt-dev: unusable with current libcoin due to ABI change
Bug#320987: libsoqt20c102: Not installable, because it depends on libcoin40 and
not on
+libcoin40c2
Mismatch - only Bugs in same state can be merged:
Values for `package' don't match:
 #318066 has `libsoqt-dev';
 #320987 has `libsoqt20c102'

That strikes me as a bit picky. Why must merged bugs be in the same
"state"? Can we relax the rules to check source package rather than
binary package? How about ignoring the severity?

Thanks,
-Steve

The file

/usr/share/doc/tla-doc/handbook/index.html

and other tla-doc html files seem to be unviewable in lynx (2.8.5-2)
and w3m (0.5.1-4). They show a heading

but nothing else.

In index.html I think the comments like

where it's described in the latest specs). mozilla seems to be
forgiving, but not w3m and lynx.

More like 3. And closer to (in fact, I believe equal to) zero at -p medium.

It does this already. Are you running some ancient version or have
multiple spoolers installed?

Huh? These are all CUPS settings, bitch at the CUPS maintainer about
ipp and serial and friends.

Actually, there are multiple versions of gs... you might need gs-esp
for your printer because it has all the drivers, but gs-gpl for screen
display since it's less buggy/more featureful. Ideally, gs-esp will
be updated or the gs-gpl folks will merge the esp stuff... until then,
people need to be able to do this.

There's another dialog that comes up when you choose "custom" that
*gasp* lets you customize it.

Actually, no it doesn't.

Go read them yourself. And before ranting again check to make sure
you're ranting about the right package (see ipp question above).

Bug#321350: [patch] Another gnat issue, Makefile needs porting

2005-08-07 Thread Michael Banck
Hi,

turned out there was another issue preventing the libgnat-4.0 package
from being built: gnat apparently has non-perfect autoconf support and
hardcodes some things according to the detected arch/system. By
default, the shared libgnat is not being build, but the Debian build
system expects it to be.

Adding a section for gnu/x86 to gcc/ada/Makefile.in solves this problem.

I have attached a patch against hurd-changes.dpatch which should fix
both gnat issues (the one described in this mail and the originally
reported MAXPATHLEN issue)

cheers,

Michael

Bug#321885: linux-source-2.6.12: Please enable CONFIG_PALINFO as built-in for IA64

2005-08-07 Thread Ian Wienand
Package: linux-source-2.6.12
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

As mentioned in

http://www.gelato.unsw.edu.au/archives/linux-ia64/0508/14811.html

CONFIG_PALINFO isn't built-in to Debian kernels. This causes
important developer applications such as pfmon, that should "just
work", to fail.

I believe it would be best to enable it by default, as per attached.

Thanks!

Did anything ever happen on the amd64 side of things?

Is the bug still present? If so, what shall we do?

Bug#321845: Alps touchpad tapping remap fails in gpm

> The Alps Glidepoint (on a vpr matrix 200a5) is correctly detected

The problem is very simple: gpm does not support the Linux kernel input
event device. In practical terms, this means that with kernel 2.6 and
anything plugged into the PS/2 port, gpm won't see any features beyond
that of a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer - up to 5 buttons and a wheel.

We'll try to support the event device soon - moving to new upstream,
and if that doesn't properly support it, I'll write a patch. The evdev
API isn't all that difficult, but I don't want to write a patch for our
current (rather old) gpm version.

Thanks for the report,
Peter

There is no free license for BitKeeper. So it is not possible to have

Perhaps you should close the ITP?

Bug#321882: childsplay: contains non-free fonts

2005-08-07 Thread Peter De Wachter
Package: childsplay
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

The childsplay package contains a few fonts by Ray Larabie (Blue
Highway, Blue Highway Bold and Bullpen 3D). These fonts are freeware but
not DFSG-free (in fact they're packaged in non-free in
ttf-larabie-straight).

childsplay is not installable for me at the moment due to the C++
migration, so I can't see how these fonts are used, but I guess they
can just be replaced by Bitstream Vera or FreeFont or so.

but that's awkward. Better is

If that also fails, then

Bug#321878: ndiswrapper: Ndiswrapper causes the fatal exception in interrupt when halting the system

2005-08-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: ndiswrapper
Severity: important

I use the ndiswrapper with my Belkin F5D7050 WiFi card.
Sometimes, when I switch off my system, I get the "kernel
panic" caused by the fatal exception in the interrupt code.
The messages displayed during sample event are shown here:
http://www.ise.pw.edu.pl/~wzab/ndis.jpg

The problem renders remote rebooting of the system unreliable,
therefore I've decided to assign severity=important.

Bug#321879: glob2: includes font with rather dubious copyright status

2005-08-07 Thread Peter De Wachter
Package: glob2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

glob2 include the font MD King KhammuRabi in the file sans.ttf. I
suspect this font is a modified version of Arial, at least the Latin
alphabet in the font looks exactly like Arial. The font also contains
the string "Arial", several mentions of Microsoft including a link to
http://www.microsoft.com/truetype/ and a lot of Verisign certificate
legalese, all further evidence that this is in fact Arial.

I don't understand what the upstream is doing here. Looking at their CVS
(file doc/source.txt), it seems they noticed the problem in 2003 and
intended to replace the font with FreeSans, but their latest release
still includes MD King KhummaRabi.

Yes. Unfortunately, SoQt also depends on Qt which, to my knowledge,
has not yet made the transition to GCC 4.0.

Bug#321870: More details

2005-08-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'm currently connected to a high-traffic network.
I've found, that the problems occures regularly, and the displayed
messages are always the same (at least this part which remains on the
screen, after the system hangs).
The problem does not occur if I disconnect the USB WiFi card before
halting the system, or if I shield the card, so it can not receive any
WiFi traffic.
So it seems, that problem occures when the WiFi card receives any packet
when system is shutting down.

They're not worrisome at all, just harmless symptoms of the DRI being

Bug#321873: On wishlist?, user postgres uses same environment on old and new cluster.

2005-08-07 Thread Floris Sluiter
Package: postgresql-common
Version: 23

Hi Martin,

for the user postgres and switching between clusters I use:
psql -p 5432 for my Oldcluster (7.4/5)
psql -p 5433 for my Newcluster(8.0)

And it works nicely. I appreciate the architecture you made for this very much.

However,
createlang -p 5433 plpgsql -d NewCluster

uses the old version (7.4) of createlang (possibly including its default paths).

Since we are upgrading very complex systems, it might be a good idea
to implement some automated environment change for the postgres user
to maintain both clusters with their dedicated tools.
It does brake in all kind of interesting ways when one uses the
postgis extension library as postgres on the new cluster: so, in that
case one cannot use the old tools on the new cluster. (but that is not
an official package yet, so I won't report that as a bug).

I realise it conflicts with your architecture that has a default
environment for each user (including postgres) however maybe at least
postgres should not have a default in this and specify which path they
need for a specific cluster...
so pg_wrapper could detect that the user is postgres and find out
(based on the cluster type) or ask which environment to use.

If I missed a feature of pg_wrapper II am sorry to have reported this
as a bug...

High regards,

Floris Sluiter

Package: openoffice.org

Hi there!

Just when I remember it: It would be nice of the XML Catalog stuff
Rene so enthustiastically got into 1.1.3-8 could be split into a
package on itself. The main reason why one would want this stuff is
that you need it for certain XML Application Server uses, and those
are often headless servers. So, in the case that you don't want X and
the lot on those system, it would help to have a separate package,
that would only depend on xml-core.

Cheers,

Bug#318998: FTBFS: C++ errors

Attached is a patch that fixes the build problems. With it
Armagetron compiles cleanly, and the produced packages seem to work
well.

There were several occasions where member attributes and functions
had to be qualified by adding "this->", I'm not sure this is really
intended by the gcc guys, since it means eg. that you can't
initialize such members in an initializer lists (at least afaics).
An example of this can be seen in src/engine/eVoter.cpp (first
hunk).

If someone knows if this is really intended or not, it would be nice
if you could clarify this, and clone the bug to gcc-4.0 if
appropriate.

Cheers,
Christian Aichinger

Bug#306714: libfirebird2-super: UDF - no libib_util.so in latest *firebird2* packages

2005-08-07 Thread Michael van der Kolff
Package: libfirebird2-super
Version: 1.5.1-4
Followup-For: Bug #306714

Due to lack of libib_util.so, it is rather difficult to get
ib_util_malloc called (cd /usr/lib;strings *.so *.a | grep ib_util
returns nothing). As a result, only UDFs linked against lib_ibutil.a (built on
a
non-debian box) work properly. Please add libib_util.so to whatever
package it fits best in.

BTW, I'm actually using sarge; that has APT policy 500... :) I only used
sid for the java-package.

Cheers,

Michael

Bug#321779: clanlib: Need rebuilt with new C++ ABI

> But as the xlibmesa-glu package containt a library with C++ symbols,

Hm, after asking on #debian-release, I was told that xlibmesa-glu has
been replaced with libglu1-xorg-dev, and that there is no need to wait
for a new package. For some strange reason, my unstable installation
hadn't upgraded xlibmesa-glu with libglu1-xorg-dev, so my builds were
not as they should be.

I'll do the delayed upload after testing the build a bit more, and
getting some sleep.

I would be very pleased if the package maintainer, Filip Van
Raemdonck, would find time to comment on this transition, or perhaps
do it himself.
