Bug#337942: dpkg: s-s-d --stop --exec is an unreliable misfeature
[ unrelated maintainer who just found this behavior trying to test another package entirely ] I don't believe the /proc/pid/exe symlink contents will change; the (deleted) convention is lsof's, AFAIK. Although the argument made in Bug#256790 is plausible, matching the exact executable doesn't seem particularly useful behavior, especially when dealing with --exec arguments that signify other packages entirely (e.g. script interpreters.) Calling readlink() on /proc/pid/exe and comparing the result against the --exec argument would be more useful in such cases. I have no idea where your '20050606' ABI/API comes from. PHP5 support was added to mapserver version 4.6.1-5, see bug #333057. Perhaps it is related to this problem? I'm reducing the severity from grave to important, because I believe the ABI/API date is correct for php4, and I've also been told that it works for others. Grave severity would only be correct for this issue if it was broken for everyone. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#339214: library package needs to be renamed (libstdc++ allocator change)
Hi Steve asked for a little comment here, so here it goes: - Your package was held back since it was requested to ease a move of whatever packages to testing. I cant see right now a unblock request in my mail folders (but that may be because Im @work, so may be unable to find it, limited access to my mailbox @home) and simply skipped it while doing NEW and havent checked again if it could go through (sorry). - Right now you should upload the renamed packages as it was suggested in this bug. The pending upload wont go out of NEW now anyways. Those c++ crap hitting us again. Quoting You: Based on past experience, my guess is that it will simply wait, and wait, until it gets whatever special attention it needs. No reupload can change that. Pfffrt, wrong. Bug#339553: cplay: please add audioscrobbler support
[Erinn Clark] It'd rock to have audioscrobbler support for cplay since all of the other players that support it are... not as good. I have no idea how this could be implemented, but maybe it's easy. Yeah, I don't know anything about the AS protocol, and a bit of preliminary research doesn't turn up much other than just the other implementations of same. However, the 'rbscrobbler' plugin for rhythmbox looks promising, since it's already in clean, modular python - it looks as though it would be relatively easy to graft its Audioscrobbler.py into cplay. Fortunately both packages are GPL. I'll put this somewhere on my lengthy todo list. If someone else beat me to it, that'll be even cooler. [Note to potential contributors: don't waste time trying to adapt mpdscrobbler (also in python), a plugin for MPD. It's short and sweet, true, but it's not at all modular, and more importantly it doesn't seem to have any distribution license at all, let alone a GPL-compatible one.] signature.asc Description: Digital signature

(Library conflicts app, library shlibs updated, app build-depends new library.) Please don't cheat. You may catch all dependencies/conflicts, which are _in_ the archive, but you'll miss all these, which are not in the archive (i.e. packages depending on the lib found in a third party repository). if I take this example: $result = mysql_fetch_array ($query); the parenthesis are lightened when I put my cursor between the r and y in the word query. If I put it after the y - they aren't lighten. in this example: if (mysql_num_rows ($query)) { putting the cursor in the same place (between the r and y) lights the inner. if the cursor is after the y - the outer parenthesis are lightened. I'd suggest to simply show a message about the search isn't available on the php manual. This would be the easiest way. Ivo F.A.C. Bug#339691: vacation does not wait for its sendmail child
[At 18.11.2005 08:23, Steve Langasek kindly sent the following quotation.] On Fri, Nov 18, 2005 at 01:17:43AM +0100, Vlada Macek wrote: Vacation does not wait for its sendmail child to die in any way and exits! Therefore accurate vacation parent (such as maildrop MDA) wipes forked and executed sendmail before it could send any message... Huh? Why is that a reasonable thing for the MDA to do? As I was reading its source, Maildrop just cleans up its own mess, which is rather creditable I think. It sets a process group at the beginning and does (void)kill( -getprocgroup(), SIGHUP ); in the cleanup() method. It's probably more than most of the parent processes do out there, but at least it reveals such megabugs like that of vacation. I don't know whether the package maintainer is viable (there is at least one other serious bug for vacation), but I plead for fixing this bug. It cost me more than I day of desperation to find it, since I completely trust Postfix-MTA code and it looked like Postfix was swallowing the messages... Once fixed, other users wont be hurt anymore. Bug#339720: never call debian/control rule and build this file during the build
Package: cdbs Version: 0.4.32 Severity: serious Hi It should never be possible to call a target named debian/control , which will build a control file during the build. But this is possible with cdbs, because the target has the name of a file which exists and then the rules will call this target. You have a cdbs package and for whatever reason turned on the play with my debian/control in a bad way option. See #311724 for a long text on that matter. Small overview: The DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_DEBIAN_CONTROL option turned on modifies Build-Depends, which doesn't affect the build that's running. But it affects all following builds, which can be NMU, buildd builds and worst case: security builds. You DO NOT want to have such a build getting a different result (except for the small changes intended with the build) just because there is now another thing in the build-depends. Two solutions for this: Think about it and set the Build-Depends yourself. That's easy and you can check them in pbuilder. Do this only in a special target in debian/rules that is NEVER called automagically. So you can check what it did before you start the real build. This is the text from the ftpteam which you can also find here: http://ftp-master.debian.org/REJECT-FAQ.html Greetings Steffen -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) cdbs depends on no packages. Bug#324675: Fix for display of boot message
Jurij Smakov wrote: Hi, I believe that this problem arises due to a logic error in print_message() function from second/misc.c, which is called to print the boot banner. It supports substitution of some variables like ${ARCH} and ${PROM}, however if no such variables are found in the text, it just scans through it and breaks out of the loop without printing anything. The attached patch fixes the problem by ensuring that the message is printed in the end. It works for me, would be great if somebody else could confirm it. You're right. I deduced the same after comparing the source tree for silo-1.4.8 and silo-1.4.9. So, after downloadig and extracting the source from, say, http://www.ultralinux.nl/silo/download/ and issuing diff -urN silo-1.4.8 silo-1.4.9 silo-1.4.8_1.4.9.diff I got the same result (see file attached). The question is, why did this change was introduced while upgrading from 1.4.8 to 1.4.9 in the first place? I can't tell now (it was done in March, I believe). But maybe there is someone who knows better? Of course, reversing this change would solve the original problem. And I would love to see your proposed patch to be applied ASAP, with consequent silo-1.4.10 release too. Bug#339724: unsubscribing to bug reports from web page open to malicious use
Package: qa.debian.org Hi, I was surprised to discover that, when I attempted to unsubscribe myself from bug reports for a specific package, via the developer web-page, the action was committed immediately. The convention is for there to be a request of confirmation, as anyone could feasibly enter in someone else's email address, and unsubscribe them from bug reports. I think this obvious loop-hole should at least be acknowledge, even if unsolicited subscription/desubscription to bug reports is deemed not severe. Bug#339729: conserver-server: consevere eats 99% CPU
Package: conserver-server Version: 8.1.1-2 Severity: important We use conserver to share console access to devices. On my backported mutt-ng on sarge there is a inconsistency when i use the maildir header cache. As a example: I delete the header cache for debian-user-german mailbox. Then i start mutt-ng, go to this mailbox. Pressing L does a correct list reply to the list. When now switch to a other list (or close muttng) and come back (and the header cache does it work) then List reply (L) doesn't work anymore, it says (similar): Not a mailing list. This could be reproduced here. If i use mutt instead (which has the similar feature) then it works, e.g. also if the mutt header cache would be used. I dont't see any parameter which will correct this behavior (only using maildir_header_cache_verify=yes correct the error, but with this it's obsolet to use a header cache). header_cache_compress is set to yes. So I tried the source packages from experimental (dbus-0.50-2/hal-0.5.5.1-1), compiled them in a pbuilder chroot and installed them. Bug#339740: major bug in debians mysqld on em64t
Package: mysql-server-5.0 I have a major bug with mysql-server-5.0 (both etch, 5.0.13rc-1 and sid, 5.0.15) on em64t (Quad Xeons) that either kills my app with a various strange mysql errors, seg faults mysqld or mysqld simple exits with no error logged at all =/ None of these problems happen with the Debian packages on a 32bit systems or with MySQL's own community edition 64bit binaries on em64t. So I am lead to believe the problem is just with Debians 64bit packages. This includes source builds (apt-get source ..;cd ...; dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot) So maybe its to do with Debian build environment, options, patches, etc I have written a version of flow-export that uses the prepared statement API with bulk inserts to greatly improve its speed. It runs fine except on my em64t box with debians mysql packages. The data that is sent to the server is not what appears in the tables, which appear to be junk memory values. It dies with various error messages, most times after running a few iterations it gives: mysql_stmt_execute(): Incorrect arguments to mysql_stmt_execute even thought the MYSQL_STMT passed to is the same one last iteration. mysqld itself sometimes seg faults I have stripped down my app to just the mysql prep stmt code path to make it stand alone so that it can be used as a test case. the test app does not stop with an error or kill mysqld (if you want that increase the number of iterations done and/or the size of the bulk insert) but the values that appear in the table are not the ones sent. I did originally posted this bug to MySQL, until I found that their binaries work fine: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=14988 Also I have a db with a number (~300+) large (~5-10GB) tables which I merge using MyISAM_MERGE tables. When ever I change the UNION of these merge tables using ALTER TABLE it tends to kill mysqld with no error logged mysqld just disappears. This again is true just for debians 64bit packages, others are fine. My installation: Debian Linux amd64 etch (with bits from sid, eg mysql-server-5.0 5.0.15) Quad 64bit Xeon em64t, 16GB RAM Please ask if you need any more information. Thank you Thorben Jändling /* This is a version of the app I am working on that has been stripped down to just the mysql prep stmt code path. Hence the code looks bizare, since function calls and (if) branches have been removed or hard coded. This app works fine on 32bit systems but for 64bit random numbers turn up in the table. To try, compile: gcc -lmysqlclient -I/usr/include/mysql mysql-64bit-test.c -o mysql-64bit-test and run: ./mysql-64bit-test Here is the table schema, please also edit the DB_DEFAULT_* defines below. When a 64bit powerpc64 kernel is running, debootstrap can execute 64bit ppc64 binaries inside the chroot without any problems. Of course a 64bit kernel is necessary for this. What if i want to cross instal from let's say x86 to powerpc64 ? This is not possible. 'debootstrap' needs to be able to execute native binaries inside the target chroot environment. You can cross install from i386 to amd64 and vice versa if you run a 64bit amd64 kernel, and you can cross install from powerpc to ppc64 and vice versa if you run a ppc64 kernel. Hi, * Matthias Andree [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-11-18 14:50]: Is hiding the password in the input really useful if it's written to the configuration in clear text? Yes, if you want to show something someone else he should not see the pwd. regards nico -- Nico Golde - JAB: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | GPG: 0x73647CFF http://www.ngolde.de | http://www.muttng.org | http://grml.org Forget about that mouse with 3/4/5 buttons - gimme a keyboard with 103/104/105 keys! pgpSs21lQKlUs.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#332942: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386: fails to insert floppy.ko claiming io-port 0x03f2 in use
Same problem here. In fact port 03f2 is in use (sort of) in floppy.c the kernel tries to allocate some data (4) starting in 03f2, and the 03f3-03f3 : pnp 00:07 is the culprit. In the floppy.c just after the failed allocation is a whining about ADAPTEC. I use an ADAPTEC AHA-2940U SCSI adapter, perhaps there is some relation ?
