I will try this. My email access is going to be limited in the next few
days while I am travelling. (Especially access where I can connect my
own machine.)

I tried this already (it was in the post I linked to) and didn't see any
effect, but I'll double check.

thanks,
Hamish

Can you take care of reporting it upstream?

Agreed. Please document this "misplacement" so that people stop
wondering about it.

Bug#342408: Fixing enscript for GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-01-28 Thread Asheesh Laroia
I'm adopting enscript and want to fix the config.* junk so GNU/kFreeBSD
can compile enscript.

Simply running libtoolize -c --force seems to have updated the config.sub
and config.guess to mention gnu-kfreebsd. I'm new to autotools and
libtool, but I'd like to squash this bug. libtool asked me to run
"aclocal" after it, so I ran that, too, but I'm not convinced it's
necessary.

So run these commands:

sudo apt-get build-dep enscript
apt-get source enscript
cd enscript-1.6.4
libtoolize -c --force
aclocal
fakeroot debian/rules binary

Does it build?

Thanks! It'd be great to confirm that this is enough.

Whoops, I missed this addendum when I was going through the list of
bug reports. Can you file this as a new bug report so I don't forget
next time? Or, if you prefer, I can just go ahead and do it myself,
but please let me know. Thanks!

Then two nbd server processes somehow started fighting over syslog (not sure
why, the board that was powered on only uses one nbd device). That killed
the syslog message repetition check, since the PIDs were different, and
generated 1.8GB of log files in a couple of hours.

Bug#350350: imagemagick: alpha channel ignored in PNG grayscale+alpha images

2006-01-28 Thread Henning Makholm
Package: imagemagick
Version: 6:6.2.4.5-0.6
Severity: normal

ImageMagick seems to ignore the alpha channel when it reads a PNG file with
the 'grayscale + alpha' color mode.

Attached is a simple example; it has a vertical grayscale gradient and
a horizontal opacity gradient. Gimp(1) and gqview(1) correctly shows
it as being partially transparent, but the transparency disappears
with display(1), and even using convert(1) to convert _from_ PNG _to_
PNG drops the alpha channel.

That's because this string can end a node name in a menu. See Karl's
explanation.

> Is it documented somewhere that node names *SHOULD NOT* contain "."?

Yes, see the node "Node Line Requirements" in the Texinfo manual.

I'd go with a name like 'rmadison' (remote madison) or 'wmadison' (web
scraper madison).

Bug#350348: Config file "/etc/amavis/amavisd.conf" does not exist

2006-01-28 Thread Gary V
Package: amavisd-new
Version: 1:2.3.3-2

I realize that at the moment the new version of amavisd-new cannot
use a regular amavisd.conf file. If one is used, two different
configurations will be present, one configuration will be read from
the /conf.d directories when the program is started using
'/etc/init.d/amavis start' and if an amavisd.conf file exists and
amavisd-new is started using 'amavisd-new start' from the shell prompt
then the amavisd.conf file will be used. I have an idea that would
allow people to start amavisd-new with 'amavisd-new start' and still
use the configuration files in the /conf.d directories. My proposed
amavisd.conf will also prevent the program from starting if one of
the .disabled files exist, and offers a message on how to resolve the
issue. I think the wording of this message can also be applied to the
wording in /etc/init.d/amavis and possibly be a solution to bug
350144.

This file is a concept only, I am not a Perl programmer.
There will be no future edits to the sample file located at:
http://www200.pair.com/mecham/spam/proposed-amavisd.conf.txt

Bug#350347: valgrind: Missing suppression of libc rpmatch 'leaks'

2006-01-28 Thread Ron
Package: valgrind
Version: 1:3.1.0-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

The following simple test:

  #include
  int main() { return rpmatch( "leaks" ); }

Produces the output attached below. Looking at the source of
glibc-2.3.2.ds1, stdlib/rpmatch.c -- the 'leak' appears to be
the result of static allocations that are expected to survive
'cached' until the process exits.

It is surely not more of a 'bug' in glibc than anywhere else
that sort of thing is done, and is in fact probably a Good
Thing, so I guess we just need to add the relevant suppressions
for Debian glibc.

I haven't looked at the 2.3.5-11 source (which is the libc
version I'm really using), or updated to 2.3.5-12 which is
in sid now -- but I don't expect this should have radically
changed in either of them.

cheers,
Ron

Thanks for the report and information. I'll investigate and forward

Bug#350346: ide drives can only be used with devfs

2006-01-28 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: cdrw-taper
Version: 0.3-4.1

I cant get cdrw-taper to work. with ide-scsi its a bit better. i assume this is
the cause:
# Regexp for CD-RW devices
$CD_DEVICE_RE = "/dev/s(cd|g)\\d+:?.*";
# For devfs
# $CD_DEVICE_RE =
"^/dev/(ide|scsi)/host\\d/bus\\d/target\\d/lun\\d/(cd|generic):";

please change the regexp to fit ide devices, too.
thanks Jonas

Bug#350344: syslog-ng: Filter rule and level(debug) problem

2006-01-28 Thread Vedran Furač
Package: syslog-ng
Version: 1.9.8.1+20060128-1
Severity: important

Configuration:

destination df_kern_debug { file("/var/log/kern.debug");};
filter f_kern_debug {facility(kern) and level(debug); };
log {source(s_all); filter(f_kern_debug); destination(df_kern_debug);
flags(final);};

This should write all kern.debug messages to /var/log/kern.debug, but it
doesn't. For example, I have configured netfilter logs to have debug
priority level. They should be written in /var/log/kern.debug but I have them in
/var/log/syslog.

But if I change level(debug) to level(crit) then it works, netfilter logs
are written in kern.debug file. Strange.

This worked fine in 1.6 version.

Bug#348336: improve section on shared config files

2006-01-28 Thread Santiago Vila
+Sometimes two or more packgages need to be able to modify the
+same configuration file. One such case is were related packages
+share a configuration file (e.g. bash and other bourn compatible
+shells share /etc/profile).

You are implicitly saying that there are packages that "need" to modify
/etc/profile. The way I read policy 9.9, packages should not need
to modify /etc/profile to be useful.

Therefore I object to this proposal in its current form.

Bug#350342: un-suid cdrecord unusable with debconf priority critical or high

2006-01-28 Thread Adonikam Virgo
Package: cdrecord
Version: 4:2.01+01a03-5
Severity: normal

I set my debconf priority to critical in order to see if I could get by with
just the defaults, as I am prone to modifying configs without a second thought.
I don't know exactly what the policy is concerning debconf priorities, but
seeing as for the `critical' level debconf says "Pick it if you are a newbie",
the question about setting cdrecord to be SUID should theorectically be of
`critical' importance, since otherwise newbies will not be able to burn CDs,
and will continue to flood irc channels with cryptic "Cannot send SCSI cmd via
ioctl" messages.
I generally prefer things to have a "Just Works" policy, though I am aware
there is a lot to consider here, and that there are other probably better
solutions, such as rewording debconf's message level question.
Note that currently it is of medium priority, so it will display if users just
select the default. But since the question says "If in doubt, I suggest you
install it without SUID.", and doesn't mention that if you are migrating from a
less secure operating system you won't care, this still isn't clear enough for
the unpersuaded Linux novice who will consequently give up.
I am also not sure how recent kernels have been improving raw device access
permissions in this area or whether the current suid solution will not be
necessary anymore, so this may not actually be an issue at some point in the
future.

Thank you,
Adonikam

Bug#316479: X11::Auth should warn on corrupt .Xauthority

2006-01-28 Thread Stephen McCamant
Thanks for investigating this problem, and for saving the file to
reproduce it. The corruption of the .Xauthority file seems to consist
just of a bunch of extra null bytes at the front. A series of 10 null
bytes represents an authority record for an Internet connected display
whose address is the empty string (rather than a 4-byte IP address),
which is what explains xauth's "Illegal Address:" message. Because the
number of null bytes was a multiple of 10, xauth and Xlib could still
read the correct data at the end.

I believe I've been able to fix this problem in version 0.55 (now on
CPAN). I fixed an underlying problem with a read() call that was
always treating a read of 0 bytes as a failure, even when that was the
length the code had asked for, and also added code that recognizes
this particular kind of corrupt file and prints a better error
message.

Bug#350339: un-suid cdrecord unusable with debconf priority critical or high

2006-01-28 Thread Adonikam Virgo
Package: cdrecord
Version: 4:2.01+01a03-5
Severity: normal

I set my debconf priority to critical in order to see how well my installation
would cope.
I am also not sure how recent kernels have been improving raw device access
permissions in this area or whether the current suid solution will not be
necessary anymore, so this may not actually be an issue at some point in the
future.

Thank you,
Adonikam

This is fixed in upstream cvs, so this bug can be closed on
the next release. Unless someone says otherwise, I don't
really think it's worth putting the fix on our package and
then removing the patch with the next release.

Bug#350336: ITP: latex-mk -- tool for managing LaTeX projects

2006-01-28 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Rafael Laboissiere <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: latex-mk
  Version : 1.15
  Upstream Author : Dan McMahill <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://latex-mk.sourceforge.net/
* License : BSD-like (see below)
Description : tool for managing LaTeX projects

LaTeX-Mk is a collection of Makefile fragments and shell scripts for
managing small to large sized LaTeX projects. The typical LaTeX-Mk
input file is simply a series of variable definitions in a Makefile
for the project. After creating a simple Makefile the user can easily
perform all required steps to do such tasks as: preview the document,
print the document, or produce a PDF file. LaTeX-Mk will keep track
of files that have changed and how to run the various programs that
are needed to produce the output.

A preliminary version of the package is available at the following
apt-getable repository:

http://people.debian.org/~rafael/latex-mk/

I am aware of an ITP for a similar package: latexmk
(http://bugs.debian.org/344562). I will try to coordiante with its
maintainer to get the packages referencing each other in their descriptions.

This are the upstream license terms (for a discussion in debian-legal about
it, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2006/01/msg00601.html):

Bug#350335: madison-php: command line frontend for http://qa.debian.org/madison.php

2006-01-28 Thread Christoph Berg
Package: devscripts
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

http://qa.debian.org/madison.php is a web frontend for madison for
those without ssh access to ftp-master/merkel (and for those too lazy
to log in). madison-php is in turn a command line frontend for that
CGI, designed for maximum compatibility with madison.

Would you consider adding it to devscripts?

Concerning the naming, I was inclined to name the script also
"madison", but that would collide with the original, as devscripts is
also installed on *.d.o hosts. I don't think a debconf question to
conditionally set a symlink etc. is worth the trouble, but if anyone
has suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

The B tool queries the Debian archive database ("projectb") and
displays which package version is registered per architecture/component/suite.
The CGI at B provides that service without
requiring ssh access to ftp-master.debian.org or the mirror on

raw1394 does not work with 2.6.15-3 on a Thinkpad R51, while it works with
2.6.12-1.

The command to reproduce is "dvgrab --size 0 -v foo" (grab from a camera)
which is followed by "Error: no camera exists"

regards,
Holger

Please add support for the armeb architecture (big-endian ARM; has
been to dpkg already, and there's a port underway at

Bug#37515: Bug reports for texinfo (and 2 wishes)

2006-01-28 Thread Karl Berry
"Mp..." brings you *ALSO*! to the top of the appendix page,
although it is actually on the next page
(this could be related to the error 276000 see below???)

Happily, it seems your surmise was correct: this bug is not happening
for me now, so I suppose that it was the same as 276000. It makes
sense, as the underlying problem was a page break separating a whatsit
(whether for the toc or a pdf location or whatever) from its
chapter/section heading following, due to the interline glue.

Let me know if you still find an example that fails ...

thanks,
k

Bug#350330: un-suid cdrecord unusable with debconf priority critical or high

2006-01-28 Thread Adonikam Virgo
Package: cdrecord
Version: 4:2.01+01a03-5
Severity: normal

I set my debconf priority to critical in order to see how well my installation
would cope.
I am also not sure how recent kernels have been improving raw device access
permissions in this area or whether the current suid solution will not be
necessary anymore, so this may not actually be an issue at some point in the
future.

Thank you,
Adonikam

Bug#350327: fftw3: new upstream version

2006-01-28 Thread Steven G. Johnson
Package: fftw3
Version: 3.0.1-11
Severity: normal

FFTW version 3.1 is now available from www.fftw.org.

This release fixes Debian bugs #259612 (the old workaround is now
obsolete), #321566, and #225959, and hopefully #338487. It should be
backwards compatible.

Note that there are a couple of important new configuration flags that
you'll want to use. --enable-portable-binary will cause it to use
-mtune instead of -march to make sure the resulting binary runs on all
CPUs. --with-gcc-arch= will specify which specific CPU the
resulting executable is tuned for (the default is the build machine).

On x86 probably --with-gcc-arch=pentium4 is reasonable (it doesn't make
much difference). On ppc probably --with-gcc-arch=G5. On other arches
I'm not sure; you can also use --without-gcc-arch to not use -mtune at
all.

Comments/Problems:

Some comments regarding partitionning:
I notice that xfs filesystem is unusable during installation, i've found
in the log file those lines:
Jan 28 20:55:24 modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting xfs
(/lib/modules/2.6.14-2-parisc/kernel/fs/xfs/xfs.ko): Invalid module
format
Jan 28 20:55:24 kernel: module xfs relocation of symbol freeze_bdev is
out of range (0x3ffeffda in 17 bits)

The critical point is the base-system installation, it fails due to
dependency problems with aptitude and tasksel.
Aptitude fails to install because libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.10 and
libsigc++-2.0-0c2 are not available in testing nor in unstable. And
tasksel depends on aptitude.
To install, i had to install a sarge system (which also fails on setting
up apt after the base-system installation).

Bug#350324: RFP: python-amara -- very comprehensive and intuitive python tools for xml processing

2006-01-28 Thread Luke Kenneth Casson Leighton

at the web site to obtain the info on it, he should delete the wnpp

Uche Ogbuji: Amara XML Toolkit

Amara XML toolkit is an open-source collection of Python tools for XML
processing, not just tools that happen to be written in Python, but
tools built from the ground up to use Python idioms and take advantage
of the many advantages of Python over other programming languages.

Amara builds on 4Suite, but whereas 4Suite focuses more on literal
implementation of XML standards in Python, Amara adds a much more
Pythonic face to these capabilities.

Amara provides tools you can trust to conform with XML standards without
losing the familiar Python feel. The current stable version is 1.0. The
current development version is 1.1.7. The development version has many
performance and API improvements, but it is not quite as field-tested as
the stable version.

The components of Amara are:

* Bindery: a data binding tool (fancy way of saying it's a very
  Pythonic XML API)
* Scimitar: an implementation of the ISO Schematron schema
language for XML, which converts Schematron files to Python
  scripts
* domtools: A set of tools to augment Python DOMs
* saxtools: A set of tools to make SAX easier to use in Python
* Flextyper: an implementation of Jeni Tennison's Data Type
Library Language (DTLL). Supports user-defined datatypes in
  Python for XML processing.

You're missing the fact that, while the current location isn't ideal,
it's a serious pain in the ass to FIX it now, because it requires
unconditionally running sed across people's config files. Which is not
generally considered nice.

Aha! In that case, perhaps there should be a very small binary with just
enough stuff linked to check if another instance is running? If not, it could
exec() the real binary. A wrapper script even?

Maybe this is too much work for a small performance improvement, but
gnome terminals do feel slow to load, even on this newish Sempron box.

Apparently, you need to add this line in /etc/sudoers:
Defaults env_reset, env_keep+="XAUTHORITY"

Regards,
Freek

Doing that I still get:

(synaptic:2698): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I get by instead with:

Defaults env_reset, env_keep+="DISPLAY"

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it!

Bug#350321: ITP: btscanner -- ncurses-based scanner for Bluetooth devices

http://www.pentest.co.uk/cgi-bin/viewcat.cgi?cat=downloads§ion=01_bluetooth
* License : GPL
Description : ncurses-based scanner for Bluetooth devices

btscanner is a tool designed specifically to extract as much information
as possible from a Bluetooth device without the requirement to pair. A
detailed information screen extracts HCI and SDP information, and
maintains an open connection to monitor the RSSI and link quality.
btscanner is based on the BlueZ Bluetooth stack, which is included with
recent Linux kernels, and the BlueZ toolset. btscanner also contains a
complete listing of the IEEE OUI numbers and class lookup tables. Using
the information gathered from these sources it is possible to make
educated guesses as to the host device type.

This is caused by the need to load the binary and all its libraries,
while it will just send a request to the running instance. I think the
overhead introduced by CORBA is negligible, compared to the time needed
by the dynamic linker to load the binary.

Bug#350319: cupsys: ljet3 recommended for Panasonic KX-P4450. This prints rubbish. ljetplus appears to work, though not listed for this printer.

2006-01-28 Thread Dave Williams ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Package: cupsys
Version: 1.1.23-15
Severity: normal

Cupsys as installed recommends the filter 'ljet3' for use with the printer
Panasonic KX-P4450. Using this filter produces
nothing but black/grey smudges from the printer. The filter ljetplus appears to
print OK, but i had to tell cupsys it was using
a HP printer in order to get at that filter.

Bug#350318: lirc: dev/input: allow device 'name' and 'phys' labels for dev/input

2006-01-28 Thread Darren Salt
Package: lirc
Version: 0.7.2-2
Severity: wishlist

I've found that while unloading and reloading an input device module
(remote control input via budget-ci, which I'm modifying a bit), the input
device number isn't stable - it normally appears as input3 but has appeared
as input4 (with nothing at input3).

The attached patch (which should be applied after 04_man_page)) allows the
use of "name=foo" and "phys=foo" for --device (or, for that matter, DEVICE in
/etc/lirc/hardware.conf); shell wildcards are allowed.

Have you made any progress with this bug? It's going to make my

patch for over five weeks, and it is a serious (RC) bug causing
breakage in unrelated software.

If you don't have time to look at it, do you mind if I NMU the patch
already applied upstream for this?

Thanks,

Bug#350275: [i18n] Hex codes instead of letters in d-i prompts

user-setup first tries to call adduser, which uses chfn to change the
GECOS field. Problem with chfn is, that it checks for reasonable
chracters on a byte-by-byte basis, which of course does not work in
UTF-8 environment, so right now it won't work even if d-i was fixed.
(Bugreport already sent to the shadow author.)

> And, when d-i installs packages from tasksel, we have merely any
> package which inputs strings in its debconf screens.

The questions usually ask for some hostname, port, login, password,
dbname or path and in general should not require input of accented
characters, but users are sometimes quite creative.
Luckily most of the other questions are boolean / multiselect.

It might not seem so from the above, but I'm not against the fix :-)
I'm just trying to map the danger of this bug.

Bug#276419: transition anouncement proposal

2006-01-28 Thread Nicolas François
Hello,

Here is a proposal for the transition announcement.

We need to find if the transitionned login must conflict with all the
packages which are not following the new synopsis.
(There was a discussion about it on debian-devel, but IIRC no strong
point)

I will make a patch to enable swicthing to the old behavior with an
environment variable (SU_NO_SHELL_ARGS).

==

Introduction

As reported in #276419, shadow's su [1] doesn't permit to specify options
to the invoked shell and doesn't respect quoted arguments.
We plan to revert this behavior and follow su's documentation and other
implementations.

Short details
=
Packages passing a command in argument to su must use su's -c option
and must quote the command if it contains a space.
For example:
  su - root -c "ls -l /"

The following commands won't work anymore:
  su - root -c ls -l /
  su - root "ls -l /"
  su - root ls -l /

There will be no problems for backports. -c can be used and arguments
quoted, with the past and future versions.

Needed adaptations
==
We tried to find the packages that will be affected by this transition.
We did not audit the full archive, but focused on [2]:
 * maintainer scripts
 * packages with an init.d script (based on a sid Contents-i386)
 * packages with an cron script (based on a sid Contents-i386)
 * native packages (on sid i386)
(In general, archives embedded in source packages were not chacked)

Other recommandation

You should follow the following synopsis for your su commands.
(This will give you more chance to be portable and to work on
POSIXLY_CORRECT environments)

su [options] [-] [username [args]]

[args] are arguments passed to the shell

Specifically:
 * It is preferable to provide -c in [args] rather than in [options].
 * su - root -p doesn't work on if the POSIXLY_CORRECT environment
   variable is set.

[1] The su used on Debian, unless for The Hurd (which uses coreutils's su).

[2] The rational is that we consider there is a greater chance to find
problems on debian specific packages/scripts since it would have fail
on other OS (on RedHat, Gentoo, Mandriva, SunOS).
Probably 10% of the archive was audited.

This is caused by the AM_PATH_LISPDIR configure check, which sets
$(lispdir) to an empty string if emacs is unavailable (as it is on
autobuilders). The version of AM_PATH_LISPDIR used in 2.11 doesn't
provide a way to override $(lispdir) via configure, but it can be done
through make. (remem 2.12 contains an updated version of the macro
which supports a --with-lispdir option.)

So it is okay to include always the latest texinfo.tex together with

Bug#146133: dots in texinfo/info files

2006-01-28 Thread Norbert Preining
clone 146133 -1 -2
reassign -1 python2.1-doc
retitle -1 info file node names are not allowed to contain dots
retitle -2 allow dots in node names
severity -2 wishlist
thanks

Hi all!

I have split this bug into two parts: First, the info files of python do
contain node names with dots, which is not allowed: The texinfo manual
6.3.4 [EMAIL PROTECTED]' Line Requirements states that:
   * Unfortunately, you cannot use periods, commas, colons or
parentheses within a node name; these confuse the Texinfo
processors. Perhaps this limitation will be removed some day, too.

The second part is still for texinfo, but severity is set to wishlist,
as this is really a wish.

Best wishes

Bug#146133: info goto node with dot

2006-01-28 Thread Karl Berry
What was the reason that node names cannot contain the sequence
". " or ".\t" etc
??

The only thing I can think of is that it is somehow related to the dir
file, which contains entries like this, with a period followed by
whitespace:

* Bash: (bash). The GNU Bourne-Again SHell.
...
* yes: (coreutils)yes invocation. Print a string indefinitely.

Actually any menu entry can contain such things, but it's only typical
in the dir file.

I can't see any fundamental reason why the above should be broken, and
Emacs Info is proof-by-example that it can work, but it's all I can
think of.

So my suggestion is, try getting rid of that test, and see if things
basically work (and "matching vs. searching" can be found). If it looks
ok, let's go for it. You see in the #if 0 there that I already got rid
of one other overly-restrictive whitespace-related test.

Thanks,
Karl

Bug#350314: libc6: Pan crashes because of glibc

2006-01-28 Thread Nicolas Patrois
Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.5-8
Severity: important

Just today, when I tried to subscribe to another newsgroup with Pan, I
tried to post and Pan crashed, Pan crashes each time I try to post. So I
launched it in a xterm, and when
it crashed I read:
*** glibc detected *** corrupted double-linked list: 0x0886ddd8 ***

I remarked that gxine crashes too when it failed to connect to a distant
mms, and it crashes each time, leaving this in an xterm:
*** glibc detected *** corrupted double-linked list: 0x08f906f8 ***

I tried to reinstall glibc, but no way.

Bug#350210: amd64 build of unshield fails to extract files due to checksum error

2006-01-28 Thread Zinx Verituse
Absolutely: the problem is two-fold...
1)
in lib/md5/global.h, line 20:
/* UINT4 defines a four byte word */
typedef unsigned long int UINT4;

That's not a four byte word on amd64.
Proper thing would be to either use stdint's uint32_t or to do
a check in configure for a 4-byte word. "unsigned int" is also
32 bits on amd64.

configure would be more portable for non-GNU systems, as not
all compilers support C99.

2)
in lib/md5/md5c.c, line 71:
#define ROTATE_LEFT(x, n) (((x) << (n)) | ((x) >> (32-(n

That assumes math is done at 32-bits, so it doesn't bother to truncate
the extra bits generated from the left shift.

either mask the left shift with 0x, or cast the result to UINT4

I have verified that making these changes fixes it, but my changes are not as
portable as they may seem. I'm including them here for reference; they won't
break any arches that aren't already broken, but if 'unsigned int' happens to
be a different size on some platform, it won't work there.

in global.h, line 20:
typedef unsigned int UINT4;

in md5c.c, line 71:
#define ROTATE_LEFT(x, n) x) << (n)) & 0xU) | ((x) >> (32-(n

This doesn't work at all, as the writetocentry macro is somehow
different in 4.8.

Anyway. I tested it with only the above addition of \nobreak and it
worked out well. Thanks a lot.

Hmm it seems that you are right:

At the end of this function we have (essentially)

if (test1 || test2 || test3 ||
   ||
(c == '.' && ((whitespace_or_newline (string[i + 1]
   break;

So if "c == '.'" and "string[i+1]=' '" then we return the index of the
string.

So now there is the question:

What was the reason that node names cannot contain the sequence
". " or ".\t" etc
??

Is there another reason why this is there? I.e., are there other ways to
specify a node where it could be a problem if we say that ". " can be
contained in the Node name?

I don't know the internals of texinfo/info that strong, so please
enlighten me. Maybe allowing this would break recognizing nodes in other
places?

Best wishes

I believe that it has always worked this way, one can switch from the
last layout to the first one, but not the other way.

Shift_L+Alt_L switches to the previous group (but does not cycle)

Bug#350312: mirror: arch-indep files in /usr/lib

2006-01-28 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: mirror
Severity: normal

mirror installs its Perl libraries in /usr/lib instead of in /usr/share
as required by the FHS. Not a big deal, but if you do another upload,
it would be good to fix.

Bug#350311: ldm: Fix xauth handling to speed up the login by 20 seconds

2006-01-28 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: ldm
Version: 0.58debian4
Tags: patch

When using LTSP in Debian/Sarge, we discovered that the login take a
very long time. It would get stuck for 20 secunds doing nothing. We
traced this down to the lack of X authority information and problem
with NFS locking.

I also changed the code to only set DISPLAY once.

Bug#350310: mirror: cannot parse current GNU ls output

2006-01-28 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: mirror
Severity: important
Tags: patch

mirror has fallen behind the times a bit in parsing directory listings and
can no longer handle the latest GNU ls output in an en_US locale. I ran
into this when mirror stopped being able to parse a remote ls-lR file and
wanted to delete the complete contents of the mirror. The new output is:

windlord:~> env LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 ls -l mirror-*
-rw-r--r-- 1 eagle root 553 2006-01-28 12:36 mirror-1
-rw-r--r-- 1 eagle root 549 2006-01-28 12:38 mirror-2

Attached are two patches that together fix this problem. One patch is to
lsparse.pl to recognize the new format (it otherwise really wants to find
a month name), and the other is to dateconv.pl to understand this date
format.

I've decided that they're not dangerous on their own, but only the $
sign, so the patch doesn't touch () at all.

Joey
