Bug#251067: Bugs page as test page
It seems the problem can be narrowed down to xprint's inability to recognise the *generic* font family names (serif, sans-serif, monospace) used by fontconfig (but xprint does not use fontconfig). It only recognises specific names. The Debian bug report pages are good test pages (for instance bugs.debian.org/xprt-xprintorg). Print with xprint; everything becomes monospace. This means that on my system xprint uses some monospace font as default (Courier_iso8859-1 to judge from the ps file) but this may not be the same on every system. I copied the page and its css. The headlines in boxes (like Outstanding Bugs ..) are h2 type headlines belonging to a class outstanding. The css specifies for h2.outstanding just the font-family sans-serif. Only when I changed this to Arial, sans-serif did xprint handle those headlines correctly. In the Debian home page, the left column is a named division called leftcol, and the css specifies for this: font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif. Because this use of non-generic font family names the left column prints OK. Regards, Jan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#352594: Badram problem: LowMem kernel even after deinstallation
package: kernel-patch-badram version: 2.6.5.2-2 original kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 (shows now the same symptoms) 2nd, costumised kernel-source-2.6.8 I installed BadRam recently an my Debian Sarge system to block some badram. Now I deinstalled it, cleaned the /boot/grub/menu.lst file, and checked if /etc/badram.conf is present. Seems alright. Use a HIGHMEM enabled kernel. 896MB LOWMEM available. I also compiled a customised kernel, and this one does this too. I guess it is somewhere now incorporated, where I cannot see it. Do you have an idea where I could look for that? I figured out that the problem is not related to the memory, as another computer uses the RAM without problems. It is rather the processor, or the motherboard. Besides that, the badram seems not to be consistent, that is I get different output when running it another day. BTW, during installation of the new kernel (make menuconfig), I cannot see an option for using badram configuration. Thanks you for any hints! original kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 (shows now the same symptoms) 2nd, costumised kernel-source-2.6.8 Best wishes, Torsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#352213: rhythmbox: genre information has odd prefixes
This looks like GStreamer is not properly interpreting ID3 tags. ID3v2 genre (TCON) tags can be a freeform text string, but they can also be prefixed with an ID3v1 genre number in parentheses, or in ID3v2.4, just be a number of a genre. (8) and (8)Jazz should be just Jazz; (13) should be Pop, etc. So either Rhythmbox or GStreamer should be mapping these to the proper names. The parsing involved is unfortunately non-trivial. -- Joe Wreschnig [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#352607: Ffnms: creating new snmp trap receivers gives php error
Package: ffnms Version: 0.8.2-3 Hello, Jffnms on debian testing has a problem with snmptraps. When trying to configure a new snmp trap receiver the following error-message appears: Warning: call_user_func_array(): First argumented is expected to be a valid callback, 'select_backends' was given in /usr/share/jffnms/htdocs/admin/adm/adm_standard.php on line 440 Below that one can find the menu to create a new trap but it doesn't work properly. It is not completely clear whether this is a problem with debian or with the code of jffnms itself. After googling I found http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/jffnms-users@lists.sourceforge.net/167 8170.html but those people aren't sure either and are telling different things. What do you think? Bug#352581: Note to the release team, bis
I forgot to say something about forcing nvidia-graphics-driver 8178 in testing. If this is the RMs' choice, please also consider forcing nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy at the same time. 8178 supports less cards than 7174 and the legacy package addresses that issue. nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy is currently kept out of testing due to an unsatisfied dependency on nvidia-kernel-legacy-1.0.7174, but no package in the archive will ever provide that unless Randall wants to upload a new prebuilt modules source package for legacy drivers. So, britney has no good reason to keep the legacy drivers out of testing, but it's a good thing that it does for now. However, this will change if 8178 gets in testing and require manual intervention. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#345393: alternate dependency on libgl1-mesa-dri
Reading #334721 you stated that you don't want to add xlibmesa-dri | libgl1-mesa-dri because x-window-system-core should contain the core X.Org packages. Nevertheless you already have a xlibmesa-gl | libgl1-mesa-dri dependency. So why not make it easier for those who want to use the mesa packages and and also add this alternate dependency on libgl1-mesa-dri to xlibmesa-dri. I know that you can remove the meta-package but I agree with the OP that I normally like to keep such important meta-packages like x-window-system-core installed. Bug#274367: glibc: [amd64] New GLIBC pass to create 32bit libc6-i386 and libc6-dev-i386 packages
On Sat, Feb 11, 2006 at 10:15:32AM +0100, Andreas Jochens wrote: Hello, Hi ! On 06-Feb-10 12:58, Aurelien Jarno wrote: Please find attached a new patch, that uses /lib32 and /usr/lib32. There is a lot of difference from the previous patch, so don't hesitate to comment it. I know there is a missing conflicts with the current version of ia32-libs, I am currently looking for a way to do it cleanly. Thanks for the new patch! I tried to compile glibc with this patch and the compilation was basically successful. I had to add the missing debian/control.in/i386 file with the control information for the libc6-(-dev)-i386 packages. Oops sorry, this file is in my local copy, but I stripped out in the patch, while stripping parts that belong to other patches. The resulting libc6-dev-i386 package still has two small problems. The symlinks in libc6-dev-i386 need to be changed from e.g. lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2006-02-11 08:02:36 /usr/lib32/librt.so - /lib/librt.so.1 to lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2006-02-11 08:02:36 /usr/lib32/librt.so - /lib32/librt.so.1 Also, in /usr/lib32/libc.so the line GROUP ( /lib/libc.so.6 /usr/lib/libc_nonshared.a ) has to be changed to GROUP ( /lib32/libc.so.6 /usr/lib32/libc_nonshared.a ) and in /usr/lib32/libpthread.so the line GROUP ( /lib/libpthread.so.0 /usr/lib/libpthread_nonshared.a ) has to be changed to GROUP ( /lib32/libpthread.so.0 /usr/lib32/libpthread_nonshared.a ) Alternatively, something like '--libdir=/usr/lib32' could be added to the configure options and everything could be installed in /usr/lib32, i.e. the top-level /lib32 directory could be dropped entirely. I have tried this solution, but it still put files into /lib. This part is controlled via slibdir, not libdir. That's why my latest patch, fixes the .so files and the link in the same way as for the amd64 linker patch, ie by fixing them individually. To have an extra top-level directory /lib32 with 32-bit libraries does not make much sense anyway. During the boot process the top-level /lib directory with the native 64-bit libraries should be sufficient. However, the packaging process for the libc6-(dev)-i386 packages would have to be changed a little to take this change into account. I agree that it will be better. However I also think the location of those files should be coherent accross all bi-arch packages. Also note that the changes to the .install files is not so trivial, because some files that should be placed into libc6-i386 are ending in .so, but it should be possible to find a solution. And that also means that the links have to be changed for all bi-arch packages. I may latter send a patch about that. Meanwhile, please find attached my latest version of the patch. I have tested the resulting libc, and I was able to compile a simple hello.c, and to run it without problem. Bye Aurelien -- .''`. Bug#340050: Not interested
tag 340050 help thanks I'm not quite sure how to fix this bug. I've tried, but there are some symbol versions and configuration stuff that gets in the way, and I don't really understand the kernel build system. Frankly, I'm not interested - these modules are old and obsolete. If nobody's interested in getting them to build, this package should probably be removed. -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Package: xjump Version: 2.7.5-1.3 Severity: normal The attached screenshot foo.png shows xjump soon after starting the game. Notice the two platforms below the ground-level platform that goes all accross the screen. Note that they seem to be a copy of the two topmost platforms. As the game progresses and the screen scrolls, those two platforms will remain where they are. The second screenshot shows a game where I didn't move at all, and fell off the screen, and right through one of these two phantom platforms. Apparently xjump expects some particular window height, which my window manager (ion3) does not provide. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages xjump depends on: ii libc6 2.3.5-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System protocol client li ii libxaw7 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Athena widget set library ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxmu6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System miscellaneous util ii libxpm4 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X pixmap library ii libxt66.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Toolkit Intrinsics xjump recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- see shy jo foo.png Description: PNG image foo2.png Description: PNG image signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#352623: choose-mirror: should not ask for suite for CD-based install
Package: choose-mirror Version: 1.19 When installing from netinst or full CD images at medium/low priority, choose-mirror will ask for the suite. However, for these installations the suite has already been determined by what's on the CD and thus should not be asked. Choosing unstable even leads to errors as there is no unstable symlink in dists/ on the CD. I guess this could be made dependent on /cdrom/.disk/base-installable being present. I consider this a patch, so I am tagging and downgrading the bug. Maybe this could be mentioned explictely in README.Debian, it is somewhat mentioned in the manpage, I am not sure if the behaviour changed from a previous release. Bug#351392: sleepd: warn before going to sleep
Is there some reason you can't just use something like --sleep-command=sh -c 'play ~/sound/claves*.wav; sleep 15; hibernate' I could. However, in order to prevent suspending I would have to run ps, find the process number for the above command, and kill it. If sleepd started them as two independent commands (one after T-15 sec of inactivity, the other after T sec), then all I would have to do is touch any key. OTOH I haven't thought of a graceful way of handling the running out of power case. I suppose I could use something like --sleep-command=sh -c 'play ~/sound/claves*.wav; sleep 15; if [ ! -e /tmp/stay-alive ]; then hibernate; fi' so to keep the machine running I would have find a terminal and type touch /tmp/stay-alive. Bug#352624: python2.4-scipy: delayed import gives a bad __dict__
Package: python2.4-scipy Version: 0.3.2-8 Severity: normal Because import scipy.stats doesn't actually do the import (it returns a fancy __ppinport_p_frame object that seems to do a delayed import), the __dict__ attribute is not what one expects and is pretty much useless. Bug#352626: debuild: should keep some dephelper envvars by default
Package: devscripts Version: 2.9.12 Severity: wishlist While preparing for the current release of Debian Installer, I was uploaded some packages built using debuild that included .svn files by accident, even though I had DH_ALWAYS_EXCLUDE=CVS:.svn set in my environment. Reason turned out to be that debuild clears all envvars, excepting a few, by default. Adding DEBUILD_PRESERVE_ENVVARS=DH_ALWAYS_EXCLUDE in ~/.devscripts solved the issue. Please consider adding the following 2 debhelper envvars to the list of vars not to be reset: - DH_ALWAYS_EXCLUDE - DH_VERBOSE Rationale: if these are set in the environment, the user will logically expect them to be honored and the chance that they will break a build is very low; the current practice of unsetting them is counter-intuitive. An option would be to print the value of the vars in the build output to alert the the user to their value. pgpRqhSqFdkED.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#324162: lvm2create_initrd.gz does not filter linux-gate.so.1 when calculating library dependencies
The LIBFILES=`ldd .` line in lvm2create_initrd is an accident waiting to happen. That library is named differently on x86-64 systems btw. Feel free to make it better :-) Finally, when the script creates the directories on the initrd filesystem, it should be nice if it created the link from /lib64 to /lib for x86-64 systems: verbose creating basic set of directories in $TMPMNT (cd $TMPMNT; mkdir bin dev etc lib proc sbin var; ln -s lib lib64) Hope those help. Bug#205044: grep-dctrl: Patch to improve error reporting
Package: grep-dctrl Version: 2.6.7 Followup-For: Bug #205044 I have also been bitten by the mysterious Unexpected end of line error message. I haven't been able to use grep-dctrl for many months because of it, and I finally sat down tonight to figure out why. Turns out there's an invalid entry in my /var/lib/dpkg/{available,status} files, so I can't blame grep-dctrl for barfing. (And I suspect grep-dctrl broke for me the day I installed the package in question. Which, BTW, is Nero, a closed-source commercial program, not part of Debian... so clearly the real blame lies with Nero for distributing a bad .deb file.) However, I *can* blame grep-dctrl for not reporting the exact file and line number where it encountered the problem. So I cooked up a patch. I'll attach two files: the entry from my available file that cause grep-dctrl to barf (you can just save this to a file, run grep-dctrl on it, and see the error message), and a patch that makes it report the filename and line number for any syntax errors detected in para_parse_next(). (Incidentally, dpkg -l runs just fine on my system despite the apparently-bad available file ... so there might be some inconsistency between the parser used by dpkg and that used by grep-dctrl. Hmmm.) -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14.4-gw1 Locale: LANG=en_CA.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages grep-dctrl depends on: ii libc6 2.3.5-12.1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an grep-dctrl recommends no packages. -- no debconf information Package: nerolinux Maintainer: Nero AG. Yes, the one stable reiserfs patch enables usage of attributes if supported by the filesystem. What happens if you do a mount -o remount, noattr /? Anyway, you forgot to show which filesystem version you use. So mount -o remount, noattr / gives an error: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo mount -o remount, noattr / mount: / not mounted already, or bad option since sudo mount -o remount,ro / works fine, I am assuming that the problem is with the noattr option. I also changed the option in /etc/fstab and rebooted. It resulted in a ro mounted root partition. Manually trying to remount it resulted in an unknown option: noattr. How do I find out the reiserfs version? I believe it is reiserfs 3.6, but reiserfsck doesn't tell me what version it is. But when I want to check the validity of the XML file using the same syntax xmllint --noout --path $(srcdir):$(builddir) --dtdvalid file:///path/to/docbookx.dtd --valid foobar.xml it fails with I/O error : failed to load external entity foobar.xml ../foobar.xml:line: I/O error : failed to load external entity ../man_entities.dtd %_man_entities; ^ %_man_entities; ^ ../foobar.xml:line: I/O error : failed to load external entity ../man_entities.dtd %_man_entities; ^ %_man_entities; ^ Is it possible to fix this so it loads DTD(s) from the specified --path option too (as xsltproc seems to work)? Bug#352635: CVE-2006-0437: admin_smilies.php smile_url Variable XSS
Package: phpbb2 Version: 2.0.13-6sarge2 Severity: normal Seen at http://www.osvdb.org/22928. Their description is: phpBB contains a flaw that allows a remote cross site scripting attack. This flaw exists because the application does not validate the 'smile_url' variable upon submission to the 'admin_smiles.php' script. This could allow a user to create a specially crafted URL that would execute arbitrary code in a user's browser within the trust relationship between the browser and the server, leading to a loss of integrity. I don't know much about phpbb. I tried the Manual Testing Notes urls they suggested, but it didn't work. The only thing I altered was to remove an old isam table, it does appear to be the main contributing factor, I have not accessed that database in years, its mostly hanging around for historical purposes. Thanking you for your help, Paul. main() ## # Abort if ISAM tables are present. if [ -n `find $DATADIR -name '*.ISM'` ]; then db_input high mysql-server-$this_version/no_upgrade_with_isam_tables || true db_go db_stop exit 1 fi find $DATADIR -name '*.ISM' ++ find /var/lib/mysql -name '*.ISM' + '[' -n '/var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausCustomer.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausFAQ.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausLinks.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausMembers.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausModules.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausNews.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausNewsletterItems.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausNewsletters.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausPermissions.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausProducts.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausReports.ISM /var/lib/mysql/austbrokers/ausUsers.ISM' ']' + db_input high mysql-server-/no_upgrade_with_isam_tables + _db_cmd 'INPUT high' mysql-server-/no_upgrade_with_isam_tables + echo 'INPUT high' mysql-server-/no_upgrade_with_isam_tables + IFS=' ' + read -r _db_internal_line + RET='10 mysql-server-/no_upgrade_with_isam_tables doesn'\''t exist' + return 10 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#348676: dstat: option to not change xterm title

Before I come up with a patch (which is really trivial) I'm wondering why you are opposed to it, or if there's something that can be done to find a common ground. I'm reluctant to add yet another option that only satisfies a smallminority of the users. Largely because I prefer the window title to be chosen by me, rather than by whatever program happens to (sometimes) be running in a tab in one of my four 15-tab mrxvt's. Also note that (AFAIK) there is no -requirement- for shells to clean up after processes that set titles for themselves... -MD -- __ Michael Deegan, Unix Server Administrator, Murdoch University.
