Bug#375433: Please support custom commands in sv and/or runsv

2006-10-20 Thread Andras Korn
Hi Gerrit,

I just realized that for custom commands like 'reload' to work, it's not
even necessary to go through runsv; sv could manage it on its own, just like
it does 'check'. You'd just need the custom scripts in the service
directory, where check resides anyway (or in a subdirectory so you could
have actions called 'run' and 'finish').

sv could then just call the corresponding script when called with an unknown
command argument, preferably changing to the service directory first so that
things like 'sv h .' work (which is what 'reload' would do in many cases).

What do you think?

Andras

I hesitated a lot before working on that specific NMU as I knew that:

-you're a responsive maintainer
-openldap 2.2 is mostly considered obsolete

Anyway, I started the work because:

-it's not a big hassle
-it gives a rewards to translators

So, I suggest that, if you plan changes to openldap2, you send tha
patch tp me so that I integrate it in the NMU.

An alternative is /me sending you a tarball with the po/ directory
containing all updates I will have received at the end of the call for
translation updates (which ends in a few days).

The last alternative is removing the package from testing/unstable but
I guess you have reasons not doing so..:-)

Your call, Torsten. I'm fine with building/uploading the package and
thus save your time for mor eimportant tasks.

Hmmm, while claiming that all bugs in LFS support cause "data loss" would be
an intriguing method of forcing these bugs to be fixed, I'm afraid I have to
consider this severity overrated.

It's still grounds for NMUing the package for the etch release, though, if
the maintainer doesn't attend to the bug and someone else is interested in
fixing this.

Thanks for the report! We'll upload fixed version after 1:11.b.1.dfsg-1 enters
testing (it fixes RC-bug concerning non free docs in the source).

An even faster approaach would be to require all affected packages to
register their init scripts by, say, creating symlinks in some special
directory; you'd need to conflict with or special-case versions that
haven't been adjusted to do so yet, though.

We thought about this approach. It requires changes in other packages.
While it's not so complicated to fix packages which are shipped with Debian
(actually there are only two of them) there may be packages, which people build
for custom use.
I wouldn't like to break them on erlang upgrade.

So, I would choose optimizing dpkg -S call and not separate registering erlang
dependent services.

Bug#394415: libbttracker0-dev: depends on non-existent libaputil1-dev

2006-10-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: libbttracker0-dev
Version: 0.0.19+p4.2213-1
Severity: grave

Hi Tyler,

The libbttracker0-dev package is uninstallable in unstable, because although
mod-bt has been updated for apache 2.2, there is a typo in the dependency
field for this package: libaputil1-dev instead of libaprutil1-dev. Please
correct this ASAP so that we can wind up the apache 2.2 transition in etch.

Thanks,

Bug#394414: agave: crashes when adding colors to bookmarks

2006-10-20 Thread Shawn K. Quinn
Package: agave
Version: 0.4.1-0
Severity: important

Upon trying to add a color to my bookmark list, agave crashes. This
is reproducible with some regularity; sometimes the color is added
successfully, other times I get this crash:

** ERROR **: file gailtreeview.c: line 926 (gail_tree_view_ref_child):
assertion failed: (renderer_list != NULL)

Aborted

I got a similar crash when building 0.4.1 from source and installing it
under my $HOME, so this bug may well be upstream.

It's possible severity "grave" may be more accurate; I'm leaving that as
a judgement call for the maintaners.

Bug#317243: aMSN plugins

2006-10-20 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira

Hi!

(Just now that I am seeing that there were answers on my bug report)

You wrote:
If i understand correctly, you said that there are plugins only to MacOS,

why there should be a package amsn-plugins with no plugins in it :)

Actually, there are plugins for all plataforms and specific plugins
for Mac OS X.
So the amsn-plugins package will include plugins available for every
plataform (including Linux). Mac OS X plugins won't be included.

A list of plugins is available here:
http://amsn.sourceforge.net/plugins.php

Thank you!

Are you asserting that you know the origin of this font, and know that the
copyright holder is not the same as that for the rest of the package?
Otherwise, how do we know that this is a bug at all?

FWIW, to me the word "freeware" means "free to use and copy, with no
guarantee of permission to modify"; it in any case does not appear to
contradict the license in the upstream README or in debian/copyright, so I
can't see that we have grounds here for excluding this package from the
release unless you have more explicit evidence that debian/copyright is
incorrect.

Though in investigating this bug, I find that the package incorrectly claims
that version 3 of the PHP license is equivalent to
/usr/share/common-license/BSD, which it most definitely is not, and this is
an RC bug in its own right...

Well, at least automake1.4 is frozen now, so this isn't an RC problem
for etch...

Eric, why are you making this change in a package that's been frozen? Why
does the changelog claim that there is a "new automake package", when this
package is not in the archive and doesn't appear to be in NEW?

Attached is a patch which replaces the hard-coded values of PAGE_SIZE with
calls to sysconf(_SC_PAGESIZE) in sys/user.h, for all architectures. This
is somewhat pre-emptive since PAGE_SIZE is still defined on a number of
these archs, but there's no sense in having to fix the same bug again later
the next time the kernel changes...

Thanks,

There are also several warnings (which indicate fatal conditions on ia64...)

vice versa - see the full log.

Bug#394406: fails to mount crypto loops

2006-10-20 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: loop-aes-utils
Version: 2.12r-13
Severity: grave

It fails to mount a crypto partition (loop AES) - dispalys either the
can't find file system (see dmesg) standard message, or some bad
IO_CONTROLL like error (I think it was the case when I had to use the
/bin/mount.orig)

I am a bit confused - should I now use 'cryptosetup' to access the
partition created by loopaes like:
losetup -T -e aes-128 /dev/loop6 -C 200 -Sfoo /dev/hda12
with fstab entry: /dev/hda12 /cr/store jfs
user,noatime,nodev,nosuid,encryption=aes-128,itercountk=200,pseed=foo 0
  0

Even if yes, then this change should be made more transparent, otherwise
users like me end up suddenly with system that fails to auto mount some
of partitions, or even without (working) "mount" command at all -
therefore I report it as grave, in my case it rendered the PC unbootable
 (untill maintaince and fixing).

When I by hand setup the losetup loop with identical options
and then call mount on /dev/loopX - it works fine as before.

Also, right after doing apt-get upgrade which upgraded the
loop-aes-utils probably (among other tools), the systeam was left
without ANY mount at all! there was no file /bin/mount, only file
/bin/moun.orig which I used to mount partitions and fixed system to
usable state.

I tried downgrading loop-aes-utils to sarge version but it seems it
didnt helped.
After downgrade:
blackelf:/home/raf256# sha1sum `which mount`
9cc043710d1287c0e79da9931c7a73c8c28feb07 /bin/mount

before downgrade (in current testing 2.12r-13)
blackelf:/home/raf256# sha1sum `which mount`
e458b5155d717f00db7ed39373e1edff12042207 /bin/mount

it do not work in either version:

blackelf:/home/raf256# mount /cr/store/
Password:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
   missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so

(yes, ofcourse I am using the right mountpoint-partition, giving correct
password, and there are correct options in /etc/fstab I doublechecked all)

dmesg don't show no message regarding

blackelf:/home/raf256# sha1sum `which mount`

No, this is not true. The IETF does not grant permission to modify RFCs,
with or without name changes.

The contents of *source* packages shipped in Debian main must comply with

Bug#394273: more info

2006-10-20 Thread David Purton
I was just using acpi events and a script that did this:

echo mem > /sys/power/state

I removed this and installed gnome-power-manager and it now correctly
resumes under 2.6.18. Haven't tested 2.6.17.

This solves my problem. Maybe the script way is not supported anymore? Or
is there still a bug somewhere?

I'll leave it up to you if you want to leave this bug open or not.

cheers

That's a good question, and something I should have thought about
sooner.

It looks to me like the other recommendations are in the same
situation, but you don't see an effect from them because

  (a) if we remove or hold back tetex-extra, we refuse to install
those recommendations in that branch (part of the algorithm), and

  (b) if we install those recommendations and then remove
tetex-extra, the resulting solution will probably be a superset of
one that removes tetex-extra without installing the
recommendations, and the smaller solution is usually generated
first. The resolver will suppress the superset in this case.

This is one place where a Depends would help. The problem is that
aptitude relies on a simple apt algorithm to get a "mostly right"
starting point for its dependency resolution. Unfortunately, this
algorithm ignores Recommendations on upgrade. I think there's an apt
bug on this and IIRC, mvo said that he has a proposed fix for it that I
could look at...I've just been too stretched lately to look at it.

I think the best solution, then, is probably to arrange for all the
new recommendations to be marked in the first pass; aptitude's own
resolver will produce better results from a better starting point.

>
> I hope such a change won't break other situations...

Probably not. There are two basic possibilities:

  (a) the solution post-forcing has a lower score than pre-forcing. In
this case it would have ended up at this lower score anyway, so
its position in the sequence of generated solutions won't change
(all the solutions with a higher score (*) will be generated
before aptitude gets around to opening up this solution).

(*) this is a lie. Since aptitude doesn't exhaustively search all
possibilities before generating a solution, a solution that
looks bad now can get better later. This is, I think, the
reason that latex-beamer isn't getting installed -- to get
to the final state, aptitude has to pass through a state
  that's heavily penalized.

  (a) the solution post-forcing has a higher score than pre-forcing. In
this case, it's probably "good" from the algorithm's point of view
to force the dependencies, since we might find a better solution
sooner. This doesn't mean the user will prefer the solution
that's generated, but it does mean that the order of the solutions
will respect the weighting factors more (or at least be less
  disrespectful of them).

  Daniel

Bug#394398: cvsnt: NTLMSSP auth with empty domain part fails

2006-10-20 Thread Johannes Stezenbach
Package: cvsnt
Version: 2.5.03.2382-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

NTLMSSP authentication against a Windows cvsnt server fails.

I have an older, hacked cvsnt version which works, and by comparing
tcpdumps I found out that the pointer field of the second
string (domain/workstation) of the type 1 NTLM message
built by buildSmbNtlmAuthRequest() points past the end
of the message when the domain argument is an empty string.
The server then immediately rejects the auth request
with a "[80090308] The parameter is incorrect." reply.

The attached patch fixes this, and makes NTLM auth work for me.

(The older cvsnt version I have set the offset field
to some totally bogus value when the string length is
zero, thus I believe the offset value doesn't matter
at all in this case, as long as it doesn't point past
the end of the packet.)

Thanks,
Johannes

apt-move is a convenient way to keep a local pool of installed

In short, you likely have stale kernel module sources around.

Just in case this is actually a bug, please describe *how* you tried to build
the module. Also try the following command which works here:

  module-assistant -v -t -k /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.18-1-686 build fglrx

If you still have problems, please post a complete transcript of what
happens, not just the make.sh log.

I don't necessarily. I don't really know what it is for. I tried alsactl
names to see what devices alsa thought were there, and hit a hard lockup
which I thought I should report.

> Is sound working properly?
Sound is not working correctly. I can see sound devices and mucking around
in alsamixer allows me to get a soft clicking sound if I turn the volume
way up. But I have been unable to get any sound files to play back. My
attempts so far have been with xmms and an mp3 file (the file is known
good).

> Do you have customized asoundrc's?
Not that I can find. Because getting sound working involves so much hassle
I usually don't bother tweaking it once it's working.

Could you send the output of the command when you run it, out of

This is not fglrx related, your Xorg is crashing, because it does not
find the right font. Check the FontPaths in your xorg.conf

 BBS means "Bulletin board System".
In Japan, some BBSs are more popular to discuss something
than mailing lists or news groups.

But it is not easy to read articles in BBS, so we use such
special browser. It is like that we use RSS reader to read
 blogs.

Does this help you to understand it?

I am sorry for not answering earlier. Basically I am fine with the NMU,
but it will not add much value as the debconf questions are only used in
the non-library parts of the package which are not built anymore. They
have been superseded by OpenLDAP 2.3 for some time now. The only reason
to keep the old libraries is that they have GnuTLS support, a feature
that we are still missing from OpenLDAP 2.3.

I'd suggest not to spend too much time on those old packages. I'll try
to find the time to remove the unused stuff from the package this
weekend.

Greetings

Upgrading to the latest version does not always solve problems. It can also
create new ones.
I will not upgrade to 0.21 before Etch release but upstream author published a
patch for Ericsson phones, today!
The other patches in the package make it actually work better than 0.21 (most
patches are in upstream's queue for 0.22).

I attached it together with a script to include in a 0.19-7. Just put both
files into an empty dir and run the script.

Test the result. I can provide you a test package for i386 only.

Unluckily, you didn't tell what you mean with "sync".

Referring to these as "doubled <>" seems *very* unnecessary. Either you can
see guillemets in your encoding, in which case it's redundant; or you can't,
in which case explanations don't make the option in question any more
desirable...

Yes, the packages file is wrong. It might be this bug:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=378183
I have emailed Christian Marillat to point it out to him.

I missed that because the "--quiet" option to gc_approx doesn't print
anything -- they were just being removed silently.

I guess gc_approx should have an option to disable SHA256 checking, or
be more verbose in gc_approx, or both.

Doesn't "Dvojni <>" mean "doubled <>"? If one is going to use symbols
instead of words in the translation, I don't see why one wouldn't use the
*proper* symbols instead of a poor approximation -- mistranslating "«»" as
"Doubled <>" isn't going to change the symbols actually used, so if there
are any encoding issues at all, might as well expose them /before/ the user
selects that option ;)

Bug#394140: installation-reports: missing Chinese glyphs in GTK installer

As Davide has provided a screenshot and you can see a lot of Chinese
glyphs are missing, I assume a list is not needed anymore. If the
developers still need a list, I would be happy to prepare (at least a
partial) one.

I agree with the theory about font switching. In the 20060911
screenshots, Japanese is using inconsistent fonts, and Chinese is using
a consistent font. In the 20060921 screenshots, Japanese's font is
consistent now (but a different one than that Chinese used), and Chinese
is using a new font the one as the one Japanese is using now, and some
glyphs are missing. I assume these glyphs just don't exist in the new
Japanese-favored font, and the old Chinese-favored font somehow doesn't
get loaded.

Thanks for the investigation into this issue,
Ming

This package does not actually FTBFS on any architectures where it needs to
build, the package is only built for i386 and that's the only arch where
it's really needed.

The package should still be fixed to not depend on the deprecated PAGE_SIZE
export, but this is not release-critical.

In that case it sounds like the Slovenians don't have any more of a clue
what the hell a "guillemet" than an anglophone does. I might suggest
therefore using both, something like "Dvojni <> (guillemets, «

Bug#393406: This is a stupid fight of Debian vs IETF/ISOC

2006-10-20 Thread Paul Wouters

The RFC's are standards. They can be freely copied, published, modified
and rereleased. The only thing you cannot do is CALL IT THE STANDARD.

If you write RFC-31337, and someone CHANGES the specification, you don't
want them to call it RFC-31337. That has absolutely nothing to do with
"freedom".

Debian is wasting time butchering any package that includes RFC's. Now,
if it came up with technical reasons, such as "we don't want every package
supporting the same RFC to include a copy, it leads to duplicates", then
I say fine, you have a point, let's work on this issue.

Openswan has given basic cart blanche to Debian maintainers to maintain
the debian/ directory. Why not send us an update that ensures the RFCs
are not packaged on Debian? That way you don't have to create this silly
"dfsg" package.

Paul

2006-10-20 Thread Paul Wouters

$ if [ -f /proc/net/ipsec_version ]

okay

The problem is probably this:

one manually loads af_key, so netkey is used. One restarts openswan,
which in its 'stop' scripts rmmod af_key. On start, it will first try
to use ipsec, and if that fails to load will use af_key. therefor,
when using af_key, one needs to probe it in the startup script.

workaround: don't unload any modules ever

permanent fix: we have added a stack= option that will appear in a
few weeks in openswan 2.5.0

Already done, I'm just waiting for the package to be uploaded. :)

WRT configuration, I think I am in the same boat as you. nvclock is able
to read my sensors:

-- Sensor info --
Sensor: Winbond W83L785R
Board temperature: 78C
GPU temperature: 60C
Fanspeed: 0 RPM
PWM duty cycle: 0.0%

But neither nvidia-settings nor sensors-applet are able to read the
sensors. I'm forwarding this to upstream in case anyone else has
reported this... I'll take a closer look myself when I have some spare
time. :)

Bug#394396: FTBFS: gcj-dbtool segfaults on arm

Package: ecj-bootstrap

gcj-dbtool segfaults on arm (and hppa). (See #388505, GCC PR29206)

Until this is solved the hppa workaround needs to be extended to
include arm:

This patch is not yet tested, but is sufficiently trivial that it
should just work.

I agree which is why I also filed a Bug #394385 against glibc. I
filled both because I'm not positive where this should get handled.
I would venture to guess that there should be a patch both in the
glibc header and in gdb.

I always understood "guillemets" to mean specially « » rather than < >,
as used in the Hungarian descriptions for these entries.

Is the use of '< >' here a Slovenian thing, or would it be more correct
to switch to the other kinds which the Hungarians are using? Indeed,
the russian description calls them by name, as "French quotemarks",
which I think implies « » rather than < >.

Don't mind where the issue is, it would just be nice to get to the bottom and
fixup ;-)

Looks like digikam is looking for a couple of .la files, which doesn't sound
right... Some examples are disk.la & usb.la which are only in

Bug#394392: msync() in recent kernels fails LSB

2006-10-20 Thread Jeff Licquia
Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-686
Version: 2.6.17-9
Severity: important

>From a recent run of the LSB 3.1 tests:

10|852 /tset/LSB.os/mfiles/msync_P/T.msync_P 22:58:49|TC Start, scenario ref
858-0

400|852 7 1 22:59:13|IC Start
200|852 7 22:59:13|TP Start
520|852 7 8662 1 1|msync() did not return -1, returned 0
220|852 7 1 22:59:13|FAIL
410|852 7 1 22:59:13|IC End
80|852 0 22:59:15|TC End, scenario ref 858-0

The test mmap()'s three pages from a large file read-write, munmap()'s
the middle page, and then tries to msync() the first two pages, both in
synchronous and asynchronous modes. Both attempts should fail, because
one of the pages in the range is not mapped. Starting with kernel
2.6.17, at least one of the msync() calls succeeded. I've confirmed the
failure happens in 2.6.18 i386 kernels, and on powerpc and amd64 with
2.6.17 kernels.

I've been able to trace the bug to commit
707c21c848deeb0200ba3f07e4ba90e6dc419c2f in git.

FSG internal testing showed that Fedora Core 5's 2.6.18 kernel does not
fail in the same way. I believe I've traced it to a backported change
from 2.6.19 development. The specific commit touching msync() is
204ec841fbea3e5138168edbc3a76d46747cc987 in git; it relies on several
commits immediately preceding it. I've built Linus's tree on amd64, and
it passes the test. I have not, however, built a 2.6.18 kernel with
this patch and tested it, though it's the only patch in the Fedora
kernel which touches the msync() code.

The patch from the Fedora kernel is attached. It is fairly high-impact,
though; if a less invasive patch is needed, please let me know.

Marked "important" because LSB 3.1 compatibility has been identified as
a release goal.

Subject: Re: [RHEL5][PATCH 1/8] mm: tracking shared dirty pages

Respin against current Rawhide kernel.

The other patches apply with a little offset/fuzz but end up rightly.
It even compiles :-)

Don, is this enough, or would you like me to repost the whole series
(minus 8/8) fuzzless?

---

From: Peter Zijlstra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Tracking of dirty pages in shared writeable mmap()s.

The idea is simple: write protect clean shared writeable pages, catch the
write-fault, make writeable and set dirty. On page write-back clean all
the PTE dirty bits and write protect them once again.

The implementation is a tad harder, mainly because the default
backing_dev_info capabilities were too loosely maintained. Hence it is
not enough to test the backing_dev_info for cap_account_dirty.

The current heuristic is as follows, a VMA is eligible when:
 - its shared writeable
(vm_flags & (VM_WRITE|VM_SHARED)) == (VM_WRITE|VM_SHARED)
 - it is not a 'special' mapping
(vm_flags & (VM_PFNMAP|VM_INSERTPAGE)) == 0
 - the backing_dev_info is cap_account_dirty
mapping_cap_account_dirty(vma->vm_file->f_mapping)
 - f_op->mmap() didn't change the default page protection

Page from remap_pfn_range() are explicitly excluded because their
COW semantics are already horrid enough (see vm_normal_page() in
do_wp_page()) and because they don't have a backing store anyway.

mprotect() is taught about the new behaviour as well. However it
fudges the last condition.

Cleaning the pages on write-back is done with page_mkclean() a new
rmap call. It cleans and wrprotects all PTEs of dirty accountable
pages.

Finally, in fs/buffers.c:try_to_free_buffers(); remove clear_page_dirty()
from under ->private_lock. This seems to be safe, since ->private_lock
is used to serialize access to the buffers, not the page itself.
This is needed because clear_page_dirty() will call into page_mkclean()
and would thereby violate locking order.

Yes. I have now made all the changes needed for 0.51, and all the
