'Lo.

Looks like (re)building it in a clean environment solves this problem,
the extra deps (libjpeg, libpng et al.) are dropped and one gets the
same kind of deps as on other architectures (I compared to powerpc), so
I believe a binNMU on i386 might be sufficient; Cc-ing debian-release
accordingly. (Sorry Luk et al., I'm not sure about the version
information to include for the binNMU, in particular the “Rebuild
against...” bits.)

How do you play your DVD? Can you try another program? I guess at least
mplayer, xine and totem should do it.

Also, do you know which video output you are using? For instance,
mplayer can do "mplayer -vo xv " or "mplayer -vo " to switch
between XVideo (kind of hardware support) and X11 (more software support).

I see a reference to gatos in your log, did you actually patch your ati
driver with the gatos patch to get TV support? Are you actually using
it? Can you try without this patch, just in case it breaks something?

Thanks,
Brice

I don't believe that attached patch fixes that particular problem.
It only eliminates one extra pointer to memory, which is only cosmetics
change to code and not any change in functionality.

Correct fix would be to use non-blocking IO. Or use select(2) on that
descriptor to not block when no data is available.

But of course I could be wrong and this is The Right Fix(tm).

What happened was that 'abiword' started, and attempted to open

I'm not really sure what to look for. Attached is an archive of that
directory -- the file is small, not much in there.

Done. No obvious improvement.

My Debian system (and X session) is too busy today... unfortunately my
current window manager/GUI desktop environment, xfce4, doesn't (so far
as I know) allow me to start another session as another user. Under
KDE it would be easy. Unless you know of a way around that, I'll take
a raincheck, and tell you how it goes when this system is less busy...

Bug#439013: #439013: dia: fails to install - broken package

2007-08-22 Thread Roland Stigge

tag 439013 unreproducible
thanks

Hi,

I tried to reproduce this and failed at that. Some ideas: When I created
a fresh base install of etch (Debian 4.0, as you tried to use), "apt-get
install dia" installed dia version 0.95.0-4.1+b1 which differs from
0.94.0-17.1etch1 which was included in your report. My apt policy looks
like this:

# apt-cache policy
Package files:
 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 release a=now
 500 http://ftp.de.debian.org etch/main Packages
 release v=4.0r1,o=Debian,a=stable,l=Debian,c=main
 origin ftp.de.debian.org
Pinned packages:
#

Yours looks different: (900, 'stable'), (700, 'stable'), (500,
'proposed-updates')

Where does the "proposed-updates" entry come from? Did you configure it
somewhere in /etc/apt/sources.list?

Please look up (and provide) the respective entries in
/etc/apt/sources.list and the output from "apt-cache policy".

Thanks!

bye,
  Roland

Bug#419929: severety level

2007-08-22 Thread Johannes Wiedersich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

The severity level of this bug has been set to [1]:

important: a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a
package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone.

In fact this bug leads to data loss and severely limits the usability of
the program, because it limits data exchange between the host and the
virtual machine. 'Productive use' of any program running on a virtual
machine --apart from testing and 'playing games'-- requires reliable
means to exchange data between guest and host.

Due to the fact that this bug leads to data loss (serious or
non-serious) I kindly ask you to reconsider the severity level.
I suggest the more appropriate level would be [1]

grave: makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes
data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the
accounts of users who use the package.

Improper use of severity levels violates the 'We will not hide problems'
stanza of the social contract [2].

Bug#425397: tasksel/pkgsel causing Etch netboot install to hang indefinitely

Well after several days of pouring over "ls -l /proc/$$/fd" output etc
(and with very little actually understanding of how the
DEBIAN_FRONTEND, DEBIAN_HAS_FRONTEND, DEBCONF_REDIR is supposed to
be being used!), I have some workarounds which let me use puppet with
a debian preseed to make a fully automated install.

I've attached the three patches I'm using (on top of your debconf
patch) which allow this to work. Mostly they involve checking if file
descriptor #3 is actually open - if it's not then unset DEBCONF_REDIR
(and possibly DEBIAN_HAS_FRONTEND - I only just saw that there is also
DEBIAN_FRONTEND :-( ).BTW ClientConfModule.pm is the
"Client/ConfModule.pm" file.

It looks like apt-get is closing the FDs in ExecFork which does look
at an APT::Keep-Fds option but I've not looked any further.

Thanks,

Adrian

Bug#438971: devscripts: [new] chdist: tool to easily play with several distributions

Hi,

I'd like to propose a new script for devscripts. It's a rewrite of what
used to be known as 'MultiDistroTools' (or mdt). Its use is to create
'APT trees' for several distributions, making it easy to query the
status of packages in Ubuntu without using chroots, for example.

Looks very interesting, thanks! My major concern is that the rest of
devscripts is written in either Perl or Bash, and I don't really want
to burden it with myriad further language dependencies. I guess it
should be pretty easy to translate this into Perl?

Well, with my current perl knowledge, It will probably take me a lot of
time to rewrite it in perl. My favorite solution would be to put the
script in the package, without adding ruby as dependency (but putting
ruby inside brackets in debian/control as done for the other scripts).

The other solutions are to wait for someone else to rewrite the script
in perl (which will probably take time), or to package the script in a
seperate package (which is bad because of package proliferation for a
300-lines script)...

It doesn't seem too difficult to port it to perl, I might have a look at
it next weekend...

Cheers

Luk

I'm always confused with X terminology. The application is running on
crater and is displayed on aries (which is running the X server)

openct with cryptsetup and luks in Debian
-

This is a overview on how you can make use of cryptsetup with your smartcard
device supported by openct. Please make sure that your smartcard reader or token
is supposed to be operated with openct and not with opensc or pcscd. You can get
some information about the supported hardware by openct at the following
homepage:

This example is based on the ability of openct to store arbitrary data objects
on the smartcard. Note that you therefore have to use openct in version 0.6.12
or newer, any versions before 0.6.12 do not properly support data objects.

Although this use case was done with the Aladdin eToken PRO 32k, an USB crypto
token, this is a generic approach which works the same way with all supported
smartcard devices by openct.

First of all, you should plug in your crypto token into USB or whatever
interface it uses and initalize the reader with the following command (as root):

# openct-control init

To check if your reader has been detected, you can run:

# openct-tool list

This should give you a similar result to this:

0 Aladdin eToken PRO

If you do not see any reader listed, you have a problem and should read again
about the supported hardware on and make
sure you have the required support (e.g. USB) compiled into your kernel needed
to connect to your token. If you use a precompiled kernel from Debian,
everything is already built kernelwise and you probably only need to load the
module.

In case you want to erase your previously used smartcard, you can do that by
executing the following command:

# pkcs15-init --erase-card

To setup the smartcard, you need to do the following:

# pkcs15-init --create-pkcs15

Caution: You are beeing asked about the 'Security Officer PIN' and the 'User
unblocking PIN'. Although both of these pins are optional and can be left empty,
you should never do this: In case the personal user pin is typed wrong for a
given number (mostly three times), the smartcard is locked and can only be
unlocked with the user unblocking pin. If you even mistype the user unblocking
pin for a given number (mostly three times), the smartcard is locked and can
only be unlocked with the security officer pin, which is the most superior pin
in this hierarchy. With an unset (empty) security officer pin or user unblocking
pin, depending on the smartcard, an attacker can have unlimited tries to crack
your personal user pin, or, an attacker can simply make the smarcard unusable as
it cannot be unlocked anymore at all.

To create a new identity on the smartcard, do the following:

# pkcs15-init --store-pin --auth-id 01 --label "Daniel Baumann"

If you have already one or more identities, you certainly want to bump the
auth-id here, and normally, the label used to describe the identify is the
persons first and last name.

As we want to use the smartcard with luks, we first need to get some random
data:

# dd if=/dev/random of=data.txt bs=1 count=256

And we store that random data as a data object to the private section of the
smartcard with:

# pkcs15-init --store-data data.txt --auth-id 01

As of the time of writing, openct version 0.6.12 is available and does not
support labeling different data objects. Once this gets fixed in openct
upstream, you can store multiple data objects to the smartcard (create them by
appending '--label foo' to the above command and replace foo with the label you
want to use).

Then, read the random data from the smartcard in order...

# pkcs15-tool --read-data-object pkcs15-init > key.txt

...to import that output to luks as a valid key (assumed that /dev/sda5 is your
encrypted partition):

# cryptsetup luksAddKey /dev/sda5 key.txt

To tell cryptsetup to let you authenticate with the openct backend, you need to
pass the respective decrypt script to it as a parameter in /etc/crypttab
(assumed that /dev/sda5 is your encrypted partition):

sda5 crypt /dev/sda5 none luks,keyscript=/lib/cryptsetyp/decrypt_openct

At the moment all data objects have the same label 'pkcs15-init'. Once openct
supports labeling data objects, you can pass the respective label to openct with
the key parameter in /etc/crypttab like this:

sda5 crypt /dev/sda5 none
luks,keyscript=/lib/cryptsetup/decrypt_openct,key=foo

For the time beeing, 'pkcs15-init' is passed to openct when no key is specified.

Caution: cryptsetup as of version 1.05-1 does not support fallback to passphrase
if smartcard authentification fails (bee it three times wro

Hm, don't know :-)

If you want a quick answer, try filing a bug report on bugs.mysql.com
as this is not Debian specific and you would else have to wait for me
to find free time to do exactly the same.
Please write the MySQL bug number into the Debian bug report if you do so.

Bug#439063: Acknowledgement (upgrading lvm2 hangs)

2007-08-22 Thread Nagy Gábor Péter
I have rebooted the machine (proper shutdown).

At boot I got the root prompt, as it couldn't mount the devices. vgdisplay
and lvdisplay showed me all my volumes, but under /dev the vg directory
was missing, and /dev/mapper was also empty, but the control file.

Booted from rescue CD, mounted all LVs, chrooted, dpkg --configure -a, and
that has fixed the problem.

So I have a working machine again.

But I have no idea what went wrong, and this is somewhat disturbing.

Regards,
Gabor

Bug#439067: gv segmentation fault while starting up

A backtrace to this would be helpfull.
Could you try to run:
gdb --args gv SOME_POSTSCRIPT_FILE
and then on the prompt
run
waiting for the fault and then
backtrace
and send the output of this?
(Even better would be with a version of gv compiled with debug versions,
and with the debug versions of all libraries installed, but even
without it might give already information what is at fault actually)

Does it happen for all files or only for specific ones?

Does it still happen with an emtpy home directory?
You can try with
mkdir /tmp/test
HOME=/tmp/test gv SOME_POSTSCRIPT_FILE

Is the environment variable XUSERFILESEARCHPATH set?

Thanks in advance,
Bernhard R. Link

Bug#439092: gnu-efi: installs parts of its build system into /usr/include/efi

2007-08-22 Thread Julien BLACHE
Package: gnu-efi
Version: 3.0c-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

gnu-efi installs parts of its own build system into /usr/include/efi; at least
/usr/include/efi/Makefile should be removed.

There are other files that may not be needed here, like inc.mak, make.inf,
makefile.hdr, protocol/make.inf, protocol/makefile.hdr, though I'm not
entirely sure. protocol/readme.txt could be removed too.

Thanks,

JB.

Bug#439094: fpm: libdb dependency problem ?

2007-08-22 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: fpm
Version: 0.60-3
Severity: minor

Hi.

Launching FPM on my testing system, I get the following message :
/usr/bin/fpm: /usr/lib/libdb-4.5.so: no version information available (required
by /usr/lib/libgnome.so.32)

I'm not so sure if this is problematic... looks like a warning...

In any case, it's a bit confusing/frightening for the user, as no one would
like to loose one's password safe access.

You are correct, and I assume this is what "Fixed library version

other words, all packages built with liblash-dev 0.5.3-1 need to be
rebuilt. Günther, is my understanding correct?

That looks like a different issue to me, it's not passing --debug to
mono anymore (which it did in the past). But beagle seems to have some
kind of debug logging, which is enabled, not sure if it can be disabled.
Investigating...

Bug#432410: util-vserver: Please upload the package

2007-08-22 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: util-vserver
Version: 0.30.213-1
Followup-For: Bug #432410

This bug is marked as pending. Can you upload it?

A bin-nmu of this package has been scheduled to fix a problem
related to symbol hashing (the package has been built with a bad version
of gcc) and the bin-nmu failed due to this bug.

When sbuild has an alternative, IIRC it considers only the first choice
which in that case was "modutils". Simply removing the choice is the
sensible thing to do since modutils is no more available...

Cheers,

Bug#391691: Nexuiz needs a better description

I agree here - the suggested change goes way too far. Though:

I highly like to disgree here. People playing "3d first-person
shooters" (which we expect them to be familar with) are pretty well
familar with quake 1, being it the first 3d first-person shooter. So
mentioning it being based on that engine won't confuse them further.

Saying that it's based on the _engine_ doesn't give the impression that
it's the same game. Some people still might think it would be, but we
can't help everyone, sorry.

And unreal tournament is also based on the quake engine, not? At least
that is also mentioned in various descriptions of that game, like e.g.
on wikipedia...

> there's no reason to mark nexuiz as "a better" or even "the best" game

Definitely not, but mentioning that it is based on that engine isn't a
bad thing, IMHO.

> sorry, but i'll tag this bug as wontfix.

Your call as main responsible person for the package, but I still try
to suggest a small change:

#v+
 Description: A fast-paced 3D first-person shooter
- Nexuiz is a fast-paced 3D deathmatch game with high-end and complex graphics
+ Nexuiz is a fast-paced 3D deathmatch game based on the quake1 engine
+ with high-end and complex graphics
effects. It is intended to be played over the Internet or over a local
network.
Several different game types, such as classic deathmatch, team deathmatch and
  capture the flag are available.
Though it also supports a single-player mode and playing against the computer.
  .
The game brings deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing
and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of realistic
  shooters.
  .
This package installs the client to play the game.
  .

I think the original suggestion for the package description seems to
have got copied from the Readme.htm, which I agree is pretty advertising.

 So long,
Rhonda

Bug#439097: gnome-vfs2: Invalid versioned build-dependency on linux-kernel-headers

2007-08-22 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: gnome-vfs2
Version: 1:2.18.1-3
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

The package FTFBS as it build-depends on linux-kernel-headers (>= 2.6.13)|
not+linux-gnu
which doesn't exist anymore in unstable.

Most buildd still have the package but you can see the sparc and ia64
build failed:
http://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=gnome-vfs2

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=gnome-vfs2;ver=1%3A2.18.1-3;arch=sparc;stamp=1182985052

The dependency should be replaced by a dependency on linux-libc-dev (it
provides linux-kernel-headers but that's not enough for a versioned
dependency as you know).

Cheers,

2007-08-22 Thread Raphael Hertzog

So please fix that ASAP. It might need fixing in liblzo2-dev or in both
packages. Feel free to reassign/clone the bug as needed.

If they really can't be co-installed, then add proper Conflicts directive.

Bug#439099: libprelude: FTBFS from source due to usage of liblzo-dev and liblzo2-dev at the same time

2007-08-22 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: libprelude
Version: 0.9.14-2
Severity: important
Justification: no longer builds from source

The package build-depends on libgnutls-dev and liblzo-dev. Libgnutls-dev
depends on liblzo2-dev, so a build tries to install both packages at the
same time. This currently fails... but it's a bug in liblzo-dev not in
libprelude.

See the failing build log:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=libprelude;ver=0.9.14-2;arch=ia64;stamp=1181383420

However I question the need to build-depend on liblzo-dev... maybe
libprelude can be updated to use liblzo2 as well?

Thanks for your consideration, it would be good to get libprelude
buildable again. :)

Bug#438539: oowriter hangs with experimental libgtk2.0-0

2007-08-22 Thread Martin Orr
The change in libgtk2.0 version from 2.11.5 to 2.11.6 is really a red
herring for this bug. The change is really due to libglib2.0: libgtk
2.11.5 was built using libglib2.0-dev 2.13.6 while libgtk 2.11.6 was
built using libglib2.0-dev 2.13.7. Rebuilding each libgtk version against
the other libglib version shows that what matters is the libglib version
used at build time.

libglib2.0 2.13.6 added locking with g_once_init_enter/g_once_init_leave
around the type_name##_get_type function defined by the G_DEFINE_TYPE macro.
The assertion failure
g_once_init_leave: assertion `initialization_value != 0' failed
shows that something is going wrong during gdk_screen_get_type; as a result
the lock is not released, and the next time gdk_screen_get_type is called it
loops trying to get for the lock.

It looks like this is a bug which was already present (perhaps in
openoffice) which has just been uncovered by this locking change. The first
assertion failure is probably relevant:Bug
/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.13.7/gobject/gtype.c:2242: initialization assertion
failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

The mail I sent was using this:

Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: x-gzip64
Content-Disposition: inline; filename="EvwmEvent.strace"

If I just click on "EvwmEvent.strace" in the bug report, and
download the file, it just works, it is a normal text-file. I'm using
firefox/iceweasel 2.0.0.6 . The Debian bug report system seems to mark
the file as "application/octet-stream, inline", but it is a
text-file. What you see is probably the x-gzip64-encoded version of
the text-file. How did you avoid to decode the file according to the
Content-Transfer-Encoding?

Bug#439104: phpwiki: MySQL initialization file is missing, but mentioned in documentation.

2007-08-22 Thread Mathijs Romans
Package: phpwiki
Version: 1.3.12p3-6
Severity: normal

I tried installing phpwiki with a MySQL database. I read the documentation file
/usr/share/doc/phpwik/INSTALL.mysql. In step 3 of this file it is
mentioned that I should create tables in my database using a file named
schemas/mysql-initialize.sql. However, such a file is not included in the
debian package. I expected to find it in /usr/share/doc/phpwiki/schemas/. I
could proceed my installation by using the file on
http://phpwiki.cvs.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/phpwiki/schemas/mysql-initialize.sql?view=log.

Thanks for letting us know. Would it work if we temporarily built

I am sorry, but I don't have the time right now to test such a change.
Is it ok if I just NMU the current version in unstable so that this
transition is finally finished? The change is rather small!

Bug#420419: WIth two video cards

2007-08-22 Thread Julien Wajsberg
Hi,

I'm basically having the same problem (same segfault), but I can't find the
correct way to configure my X server with the new intel driver.
In fact I'm using two very different video cards for my xinerama setup: one
i845G (driver intel) and one old Matrox Mystique (driver mga). I couldn't
find any information about the new configuration with this type of setup, so
I would appreciate a lot to get some help for this issue.

Here is an excerpt of my new xorg.conf (I removed the sections about the
keyboard and DRI) :

Section "Device"
Identifier"matrox"
Driver"mga"
BusID"PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier"Intel"
Driver"intel"
BusID"PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier"Default Screen"
Device "Intel"

SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Virtual 2048 2048
EndSubSection

SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Virtual 2048 2048
EndSubSection

EndSection

I tried using two Device lines in my Screen section, and got some weird
results; I tried with using +xinerama when starting the server, or without.

I must say I could make it work in "two independant screens" mode (only the
screen on the matrox card was a bit weird, but I suspect I'll have to try a
preferred mode for that).

Here is the relevant part of my old xorg.conf

Section "Device"
Identifier"Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset
Integrated Graphics Device"
Driver"intel"
BusID"PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

Section "Device"

EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier"NEC MultiSync FE950+"
Option"DPMS"
HorizSync30-96
VertRefresh50-160
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier"Default Screen"
Device"Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset
Integrated Graphics Device"
Monitor"Philips 170S"
DefaultDepth16

Lots of SubSection "Display"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier"Second Screen"

EndSection

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier"Default Layout"
Screen"Default Screen"
Screen"Second Screen" RightOf "Default Screen"
InputDevice"Generic Keyboard"
InputDevice"Configured Mouse"
EndSection

And I used to start X with the +xinerama option.

Thanks for having read until this ;)

Bug#439107: ITP: xpn -- GTK+ based news reader

2007-08-22 Thread Michael Krauss
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Michael Krauss <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: xpn
  Version : 0.7.0
  Upstream Author : Antonio Caputo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://xpn.altervista.org/index-en.html
* License : GPL v2
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : GTK+ based news reader

After using XPN myself for a year now, i think it's time to
make it available in debian.

XPN is written in python. By default it is not intended to be
installed, but to be started directly out of its directory. Thus i
have written a start script that preserves as many command line
parameters of the original program as possible and let XPN behave like
a Unix Tool should behave. Furthermore i added an .desktop file and
converted the program icon to xpm.

Next i will upload the package on mentors.debian.net.
I hope this is the right procedure, following
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/maintainer-intro
and
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-newpackage

Kind Regards,
Michael Krauss

Bug#326822: This bug seems to be fixed by #379042

2007-08-22 Thread Stefan Rink

Hi everyone,

just finished hunting this bug myself.
It seems that it was caused by a bad entry in the mime.magic file of
libmagic1. This issue is tracked by #379042 (which got fixed a few
versions before the package entered etch).

By the way, #335179 (which is already archived) seems to have the very
same cause.

Please close/merge/archive/whatever #326822 (i am not a DD and don't know
what is the proper thing to do).

Regards,
Stefan

I am quite sure it is not a bug in fvwm, as the same method works for
other programs, and I also don't think it is a gtk bug because it works
for gimp.

Bug#439108: geotoad: Creates buggy GPX-output

2007-08-22 Thread Klaus Kettner
Package: geotoad
Version: 3.9.0-5
Severity: normal

I don't know whether geotoad is still maintained, the last version is
quite old. When calling geotoad with the following arguments, i get a
GPX-file as result, which contains some bad characters, so it cannot be
imported into the Garmin software or other GPX-capable software (like
GPXView on my PDA). GPSBabel is also not able to convert the resulting
GPX-File.

geotoad -u myuser -p mypass --queryType=coord --distanceMax=10 'N49 26.850 E011
04.142'

Reason seems to be this cache:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCT6CY

Probably there is nonsense stored in geocaching.com's database, geotoad
produces this line in the GPX-File:

^S!?C?

Correct would be:

After manually correcting this line, everything is fine. Garmin, GPXView
and gpsbabel work perfectly.

Bug#427057: More details makeing this bug less stochastic

2007-08-22 Thread Anders Hammarquist
I've spent some time further analyzing what is going on to cause this
bug.

1) The problem only occurs if the SSL server asks for a client certificate

2) The problem occurs when the server times out the HTTP/1.1 keep-alive
(after 15 seconds using the current defaults in twisted with the
   script I sent).

3) From looking at the network traffic with wireshark, it appears that
iceweasel attempts to reestablish the connection using SSL v2 after
it's been timed out, which is then rejected.

This bug should probably go upstream.

/Anders

Bug#439111: This bug is not severity serious, but at most wishlist

2007-08-22 Thread Michael Hanke
Hi,

I just became aware that I made a mistake. This bug only occurs if one
modifies the swig interface file (like I did while working on #439112),
so it should not prevent an unmodified libsvm from building properly.

However, it might be a good idea to build-depend on swig anyway and
generate fresh wrappers with the most recent swig instead of using the
included ones. This way the wrapper could benefit from fixed swig
bugs automatically by simply rebuilding the package.

Sorry for confusion,

Michael

Bug#439113: The "search results" tab is always hidden

2007-08-22 Thread David
Package: tracker-search-tool
Version: 0.6.1-1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Whenever I start tracker search tool and enter a search string, only the
categories (all files, documents, text, etc) are visible. Even if you click
on a category, the same.

You have to move the mouse to the very right border (just before the
window's right frame) and drag it to the left, in order to see the results
tab.

Many people will not realise it, so they will think that tracker search tool
is completely unusable.

I use KDE, but in gnome it must be the same, isn't it?

So, you forget to run depmod -a in some way. Other -source packages do
this right somehow.

For example, the ov511 source package has in debian the attached

should be happening.

Bug#439117: libcommoncpp2-dev: common c++ cannot be used with gcc 4.2

2007-08-22 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: libcommoncpp2-dev
Version: 1.5.7-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've got no idea wether this is solvable without rebuilding common C++
against gcc 4.2, anyway it should be noted that the common c++ package
that is shipped with debian unstable doesn't work with gcc 4.2.

The reason is config.h line 1088, it tries to #include
which doesn't exist in gcc 4.2 anymore. A workaround is to set a #undef
HAVE_GCC_BITS_ATOMIC and #undef HAVE_GCC_CXX_BITS_ATOMIC 3 lines above.

A real solution might be to configure the common c++ package to _not_
use bits/atomic at all while building it (don't know wether thats
possible).

Also, the case with 5 or more arguments is not clear either.
In fact, I don't know if this is a bug (due to a primitive parser)
or a bad documentation.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ [ true -a \( ! -a \) ] && echo OK
bash: [: `)' expected, found ]

It is not clear whether the second -a is
  1. -a  where  is ')';
  2. -a where is a missing parameter[*], ')' being
 part of the ( expr ) form;
  3. the string '-a' (assuming there are no parameters left, see
 point 2).

[*] The man page says:

See the description of the test builtin command (section SHELL
BUILTIN COMMANDS below) for the handling of parameters (i.e.
missing parameters).

But nothing is described in the test builtin concerning missing
parameters.

The parser seems to follow point 1. But a grammar-based parser would
follow point 2 or 3.
