Bug#468173: imagej: Cannot pass image file name on command line
Package: imagej Version: 1.39q-1 Severity: normal The script /usr/bin/imagej to start ImageJ passes all command line arguments to java before the class name, so it is not possible to pass any command line arguments to imagej (such as file names). The synopsis in the man page however is: imagej [options] files... which suggests the possibility to pass file names on the command line. The options are understandably meant for the virtual machine to allow setting the memory limit for example. I don't know how easy this is to do in bash, but maybe such options could be prefixed by -j or something. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers gutsy-updates APT policy: (500, 'gutsy-updates'), (500, 'gutsy-security'), (500, 'gutsy-backports'), (500, 'gutsy') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-14-generic (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=da_DK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=da_DK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages imagej depends on: ii gij [java2-r 4:4.2.1-4ubuntu2The GNU Java bytecode interpreter ii gij-4.1 [jav 4.1.2-16ubuntu2 The GNU Java bytecode interpreter ii gij-4.2 [jav 4.2.1-5ubuntu5 The GNU Java bytecode interpreter ii icedtea-java 7~b21-1.4+20071007-0ubuntu6 Java runtime based on OpenJDK ii sun-java6-jr 6-03-0ubuntu2 Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment ( imagej recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#466687: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#466687: xfce4: windows are not being redrawn correctly when moving - nv/nvidia driver Xinerama, dualhead
Hi, Yves-Alexis Perez wrote: On jeu, 2008-02-21 at 18:21 +0100, Jan Capek wrote: Disabling xinerama 'solves' the problem however at that point I am stuck with 2 independent screens that are not of much use for me. Ok. I am not sure, maybe I should file a bug somewhere in the 'nv', 'nvidia' driver area. However, this bug seems to trigger with xfce4 only. Well, could you try in metacity or openbox, wich support xinerama pretty well? I have tested with openbox. This allowed me identifying the problem a little bit further. The issue is still reproducable in openbox when I use the xfce4-terminal there. Further, I have noticed that when dragging any other windows over this terminal their decorations get damaged, too. Now I am quite sure that this is nvidia driver problem. There has to be some window redrawing function that xfce4 uses that triggers this bug. Should this still be reported to xfce4 bts to work around for broken nvidia drivers? I have made a research and tried the following configurations for dual head so far: - nvidia driver (2 instances of the device) + Xinerama - this gives me satisfying performance, however the above bug occurs in xfce4 - nvidia driver + TwinView option (X.org's xinerama is disabled) - this works fine, however, the performance is VERY BAD. Moving windows around is fine. Switching desktop and redrawing of all windows on the freshly switched desktop is very very slow - nv driver - doesn't support dual head on my nvidia card, xrandr extension doesn't show all connected screens. I will take a look at the problem further here. Well, I guess the problem lies in nvidia driver. I use at work two nvidia-based cards, using xinerama, and it works pretty fine in Xfce (no bug like this). But this is using nvidia legacy. If anybody can think of a testcase, to duplicate the issue in a different environment than xfce4, I would be more than happy to try that. I am attaching the two configurations + xrandr output of the twinview one + relevant X.org logs. The thing is, we can't really debug nvidia proprietary driver... I would be more happy if there was some working solution for dualhead for nVidia GeForce 6200 so that I wouldn't have to use the proprietary driver. But as of now, I didn't find any, so I have struggle with this bug. Jan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, the xfce4-terminal thingy looks like a problem in compositing (or maybe in vte). I know that I've asked multiple times yet, but is compositing deactivated in xorg.conf? Like: Section Extensions Option Composite Disable EndSection I would be more happy if there was some working solution for dualhead for nVidia GeForce 6200 so that I wouldn't have to use the proprietary driver. But as of now, I didn't find any, so I have struggle with this bug. Yup, that's the problem with crappy proprietary and non documented hardware :( Cheers, -- Yves-Alexis -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#465902: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#465902: cryptroot remote unlocking on boot feature
hi! jonas wrote: That would mean to have a 'killall cryptsetup' at the end of every cryptroot execution. right. i think that's ok. Not sure. It's ok in a common setup, but what about users who use custom scripts in their initrd which invoke cryptsetup as well. sure, sounds like a corner case, but I still don't like the idea to kill every cryptsetup process per default in cryptroot initramfs script. actually the console cryptroot instance (or actually: all) should be killed by the (shell) cryptroot instance after successful completion. as this already means the boot process will continue, the killall cryptsetup could be spared. but this means that in case of unlocking from remote, this would produce a dangling cryptsetup... so i guess the killall cryptsetup would still be nicer. theoretically there shouldn't be any valid cryptsetups left after one of the cryptroots finished. killing the cryptroots and their child processes would be most elegant i guess, but i wasn't able to find such a solution with the means available in initramfs... also, in this scenario, the check for existence of the crypttarget isn't necessary anymore, so this change can be spared too. i attached a new patch according to this. david wrote: The addition of [ `tty` == /dev/console ] I did not quite understand. What was the purpose there? Manual invocations of the cryptsetup initramfs script I assume? correct. taking care the splash-stuff is done exclusively by the instance running on the console. As for the rest of the patch, I am still not convinced. the killall cryptsetup/cryptroot? while i, too, would certainly prefer to kill exactly the pid of the cryptsetup i'm looking for, in the absence of means allowing this (afaik), i personally think a killall would be acceptable (and preferable to just letting cryptsetup hang around doing nothing) at this point. On the other hand, I already have some code for a simple program (in C) that automatically uses usplash or console to get a passphrase from a user. Perhaps it is time to dust it off, add fifo as a third input method and add it to cryptsetup. right, i guess in c this could be done, one thread could read from stdin while another thread reads from the fifo. and atomicity/locking should be less of an issue there. It should make writing keyscripts simpler and should allow this ssh support to be written as a keyscript...in addition, we could remove some special cases from the initramfs script as that binary could be used as the keyscript when no particular keyscript has been defined (meaning we always run a keyscript and can move some of the usplash special cases from the initramfs script). right, in this case the 'calling cryptsetup and typing in the password' case would be one (standard/default/shipped) keyscript (that's what i meant by 'removing the non-keyscript cryptsetup part' from the cryptroot-script). I have exams on 4:th, 5:th, 6:th and 12:th of March, so I won't have time to hack on that for another week or two though (not intended to try your patience Chris :)) well, no prob for me, as i've got working packages (now even supporting multiple crypttargets! ;) ) i'm using for etch and lenny installations for quite a while now... i just thought this is certainly an issue for quite some people out there... i wondered what the cases-per-day rate of incidents where somebody sits some hundereds or thousands of kilometers away from his box that waits for his cryptroot passphrase at the console might be... so i felt kind of obliged to provide the solution and the corresponding amount of work to the community, too. i guess i can rest my conscience now... :) On an unrelated note...what host key does the dropbear daemon use in the initramfs? in the current dropbear patch the mkinitramfs takes the host- and authentication-keys from /etc/initramfs-tools and copies them to the initramfs. if they aren't already there, the mkinitramfs run will create them. i.e. the installer could create them on installation, they can be exchanged as needed, and they don't change over mkinitramfs-runs. to log in, the secret authentication key from /etc/initramfs-tools is needed (and the hostkey should be compared/fingerprint checked/added to known_hosts). Maybe I'm doing it wrong, though - but isn't a header in /usr/include expected to be usable anyway ? Unless you have a real use for any of the headers, I think removing most of them is the solution. I could only identify libnetlink.h as a header experting anything that's actually useful to external programs. Out of curiosity I googled for iproute libnetlink.a rpm and the rpm package of iproute seems to build a libnetlink-devel package which only contains libnetlink.a and libnetlink.h, not exporting anything else (in that package, don't know how to check which binary packages a SRPM builds)... Including libnetlink.h seems to work just fine, so unless anyone finds anything else usable in iproute-dev I guess this should be treated as a wishlist request to please remove cruft ( == everything except libnetlink.{a,h} ) from the iproute-dev package. Less urgent, so I'll leave it until I return from my trip and have another look at the whole problem with more time at hand then. -- Regards, Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Conclusion: Likely not a GnuTLS problem. I think that this conclusion was built too fast, but we do not have sufficient information to know this. The original reporter has said in the mean time that there are no non-ascii chars in the file and that there are no CRLF issues here. Currently, it is suspected that GnuTLS has issues with the fact that the certificate is a wildcard certificate. By reading this report, I'm really curious which gnutls version is used, and whether the gnutls-serv and exim are linked on the same version of gnutls. Does this occur if exim is linked on gnutls 2.2? I'm using gnutls 2.0.4 at present (this is the current debian testing version). Is it possibly a known issue with this version? I can not install the new version at present, as this is a production server. I will be able to test this if you think it will correct the issue. For reference, gnutls-serv and gnutl-client work with this cert/key pair. I can run the server fine using; gnutls-serv --debug 5 --x509keyfile myhost_net.key --x509certfile myhost_net.crt And the client can connect using; gnutls-cli -p 5556 mail.myhost.net however, when using certtool -i my key file failes with the base 64 decoding error. certtool: Import error: Base64 decoding error. regards, Nikos Thanks for your interest, Regards Mark -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#468098: Package avant-window-navigator should have plugin/applets
Hi Bertrand, It's a very good idea to introduce 3D dock in Debian. I tried to compile plugins and applets for this one found here : http://wiki.awn-project.org/Awn_Extras and unfortunetly the configure can't find awn (I didn't try that hard)... You should try to install libawn-dev and python-awn and try to compile them again. So I guess it would be very nice to have these as an official Debian package. The navigator must be lonely like this :-) Yes, I plan to packages them, but there is more problems than in the bar itself. By the way I got applets here (but it's an old 1.9 version) : deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/deb4gilir/avant-window-navigator/ unstable main It's a very old repository which I used to test my packages before including them in Debian. Confirming that link detection works is appreciated. We have a number of Dell PowerEdge machines that do not indicate which interface has link when running d-i. dmesg(8) says the adapters are: eth0: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet eth1: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet and mii-tool(8) does detect the presence or absence of link: eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok eth1: no link These interfaces take a while to negotiate a link, probably because spanning tree is enabled on the switch ports they're attached to, so it necessarily takes a while for the port to enter the forwarding state. Bug#468213: linux-latest-2.6: please enable USB_PERSIST
Package: linux-latest-2.6 Severity: wishlist On portable devices (laptops, PDAs) with memory card readers, it's convenient to use a memory card for a filesystem like /home, or a swap partition. But without USB_PERSIST, one can't suspend and resume these machines, because the memory card's device will change. Enabling USB_PERSIST in the standard Debian kernels would fix this. Although USB_PERSIST is described as dangerous, I argue that it really isn't very: Note that even when CONFIG_USB_PERSIST is set, the persist feature will be applied only to those devices for which it is enabled. You can enable the feature by doing (as root): echo 1 /sys/bus/usb/devices/.../power/persist (source: Documentation/usb/persist.txt) -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (400, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
