Bug#474675: gedit: no permission to overwrite on save on some curlftpfs mounted location

2008-04-06 Thread alex bodnaru
Package: gedit
Version: 2.22.0-1
Severity: important

first, gedit is wonderful and very extensible.

thus, every bug is important to fix.

it goes like this: i'm working on files located on 2 ftp servers.
i can read and create files on both servers, either through a
bookmark connection in gnomevfs, or through a curlftpfs mapping.

but on overwriting a file, on one curlftpfs save fails with
"You do not have the permissions necessary to save the file" error.

it definitely is something should be checked with curlftpfs people too.

however i can't supply the passwords to the servers, i'm willing to
check any suggestions.

thanks for your work and contribution,

alex

I experienced the problem last night with the volatile packages:
freshclam went berserk and took -milter and -daemon with it. I had
to kill freshclam before I could start the other two due to
a database lock. From the logs, it seems that this is due to failure
by freshclam to connect to the mirrors.

Bug#474556: partman-base: Please include XEN virtual device recognition

I've been using practically the same patch myself but hadn't got round
to submitting it yet. A couple of things I noticed:
  * I subtract 97 from $drive and you subtract 96. It's too early in
the morning for me to think about who is right. I guess it
depends whether we normally count from 0 or 1.
  * You refer to "XEN" which I think should be "Xen" (no need to
shout).

Otherwise the patch looks good and I can confirm that it works.

Ian.

Bug#474671: dpkg-shlibdeps: should detect i386 binaries on amd64

2008-04-06 Thread Timothy G Abbott

Package: dpkg-dev
Severity: wishlist
Tags: dpkg-shlibdeps

I came across a package where the upstream tarball contained some i386
binaries on it which it did not clean but did install in its makefile.
The result was that when building the package on amd64, I got the
following confusing error message in a minimal build chroot:

dh_shlibdeps -prubiks
dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: couldn't find library libc.so.6 needed by
debian/rubiks/usr/bin/optimal (its RPATH is '').
Note: libraries are not searched in other binary packages that do not have any
shlibs or symbols file.
To help dpkg-shlibdeps find private libraries, you might need to set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
dh_shlibdeps: command returned error code 512
make: *** [binary-predeb-IMPL/rubiks] Error 1

If libc6-i386 is installed, dpkg-dhlibdeps terminates without errors, and
ldd will correctly claim the binary was linked against /lib32/libc.so.6.

I realize that this represents a bug in the package, but it'd be nice if
dpkg-shlibdeps provided a better error message in this case.

Bug#474568: iaxclient: FTBFS: error: speex/speex_preprocess.h: No such file or directory

2008-04-06 Thread Ron

This one appears to have more problems than just needing to link
against libspeexdsp. It's also directly accessing members of private
structures (which have since gone away). The code in question is in
input_postprocess() of audio_encode.c:

/* Analog AGC: Bring speex AGC gain out to mixer, with lots of
hysteresis */
/* use a higher continuation threshold for AAGC than for VAD itself */
if ( !silent &&
iaxci_silence_threshold != 0.0f &&
(iaxci_filters & IAXC_FILTER_AGC) &&
(iaxci_filters & IAXC_FILTER_AAGC) &&
st->speech_prob > 0.20f )
{
static int i = 0;

i++;

if ( (i & 0x3f) == 0 )
{
const float loudness = st->loudness2;

if ( loudness > 8000.0f || loudness < 4000.0f )
{
const float level = iaxc_input_level_get();

if ( loudness > 16000.0f && level > 0.5f )
{
/* lower quickly if we're really too
hot */
iaxc_input_level_set(level - 0.2f);
}
else if ( loudness > 8000.0f && level >= 0.15f )
{
/* lower less quickly if we're a bit
too hot */
iaxc_input_level_set(level - 0.1f);
}
else if ( loudness < 4000.0f && level <= 0.9f )
{
/* raise slowly if we're cold */
iaxc_input_level_set(level + 0.1f);
}
}
}
}

I'm not really sure why this code should not go away entirely and
instead just use the speex AGC api itself to to this. This doesn't
look like a very stable mechanism.

Fixing this should be discussed with the upstream author, who presumably
had their reasons at the time.

Cheers,
Ron

Bug#474670: initramfs-tools: [alpha] boot failure with linux-image-2.6.22-3-alpha-generic

2008-04-06 Thread Atsuhito KOHDA
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.91e
Severity: important

Hi, I encountered the following boot failure on my alpha machine.
When linux-image-2.6.22-3-alpha-generic came into testing,
my system failed to boot with the initrd.img generated by initramfs-tools
but it still booted with the initrd.img generated by yaird so
I suspect this is a bug of initramfs-tools.

However, linux-image-2.6.24-alpha-generic failed to boot with
initrd.img generated both initramfs-tools and yaird.

The messages when it failed to boot were as follows:

initrd.img-2.6.22-3-alpha-generic.yaird is what I backed up for
later use if necessary.

initrd.img-2.6.22-3-alpha-generic is what initramfs-tools geneted
this morning. I booted with 2.6.22-2 and generated initrd.img
with a command dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.22-3-alpha-generic
after setting up /etc/kernel-img.conf for initramfs-tools.

Regards.

I first packaged nikto as an ITA but since packages.qa.debian.org seemed
to think that having an ITA for a removed package was an error and since
my ITA was turned back into a removal request, I have opened an ITP
instead.

The package is ready and is an update of 1.35-2 which was in unstable
before removal. It is available on mentors.debian.net if you want to
look at it:
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/n/nikto/nikto_2.02-1.dsc

Thanks for your feedback.

Maybe one differnece: That won't work on my machine, as once the bug
wents of, I cannot switch to a tty (Ctr+Alt+Fn seems to be captured.)

Mmm. I use UTF-8. -- Could Ctr+Alt+Fn translate to an UTF char and be
captured because of that?

The plugin is named like this, and it won't even work with xfce3. All
plugins are named like this, and the xfce4 metapackage is named like
this.

This bug is already described, in more detail, in BTS #249455.

I'll go ahead and remove the script in question from the generated

Bug#474669: cdbs: Please add DEB_DH_CLEAN_ARGS variable

2008-04-06 Thread Timothy G Abbott

Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.51
Tags: patch
Severity: wishlist

I think it'd be useful if CDBS supported a DEB_DH_CLEAN_ARGS variable that
would be passed to dh_clean, since I consider it cleaner than writing a
new clean:: target.

I've attached a patch to do this.

It's probably also a good idea to use DEB_DH_CLEAN_ARGS for the clean::
target in the "Debhelper custom build rules" section of the documentation;
I've not included that change in my patch.

Bug#474668: korganizer: weird calendar colors after upgrade

2008-04-06 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: korganizer
Version: 4:3.5.9-2
Severity: minor

After the latest upgrade in testing the colors were very strange; in
particular, items from my main calendar were a dark red, giving an
alarming impression.

Looking a little closer, I saw that each calendar, as displayed in the
lower left, had a color. I think I had them colored before, but not
with these colors.

I also suspected the problem was the result of upgrading in a running
KDE 3.5.8 session, although I had shut down korganizer (and daemon)
before the upgrade. However, logging out and back in did not help.

I was able to customize the color to something more reasonable in the
calendars box on the lower left.

I'm reporting this because the effect was quite jarring at first, and
also because it might indicate something more serious (like other
settings getting wiped out) going on underneath. As far as I can
tell, all else is well.

I have 4 different calendars.

Bug#308312: 308312: colors for different calendars

2008-04-06 Thread Ross Boylan
If I understand the wish, I think it's been granted. Perhaps I don't,
since the upstream bug is also still open.

In 3.5.9 (and earlier) the bottom left shows a list of calendars. One
can assign colors to them, and the items on that calendar show in the
main display with that color.

If the item has tags too, particularly multiple tags, I'm not sure what
color wins.

OK, thanks for confirming. I don't know exactly what to do; it sounds
like mixing system libs and vmware-shipped libs is becoming dangerous
now that divergence is growing between the pseudo- dynamically linked
binaries that vmware ships and the bleeding edge libraries in unstable.

Well, it only works when the program is running, which may not be the
case when reportbug is invoked. I'll add it to README.Debian, though.

Bug#468325: ITP - Urban Terror -- Quake 3 based first person shooter

2008-04-06 Thread Fabio Till

Moin Moing,
while Urban Terror does not rely on the Quake III Arena game data
anymore, there is currently still a legal conflict between the (closed
source!) Mod licence they use for iourbanterror, which is actually based
on the GPL licenced ioquake3 engine, as written in the comments here:
http://happypenguin.org/show?Urban%20Terror&showall=1#comments

"no it isn't. the q3-sdk-license says, that "modifications" may only be
used with the original quake 3 arena game. and ioquake3/iourbanterror
clearly is not quake 3 arena. they do distribute their "game" as
standalone with the ioq3-executable, so they have to put the game source
under GPL as well. if they don't want that they have to stop calling it
"standalone" and distributing the executable. - caedes"

Ciao, Fabio

This looks like a problem with mixing Debian's libstdc++6 with vmware's
libgcc_s.

Well, Debian ships libgtk2.0-0 and libgtk1.2...

VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force happens to "force" the wrapper script to
use VMware's "hokey" libs, not the systems. From wrapper-gtk24.sh,

# When environment variable VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK is set to "force", we
# forcefully use the 32-bit GTK+ 2.4 runtime environment (libraries + their
# configuration files) that we ship.
#
# When environment variable VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK is set to "yes", we
# thoughtfully use the 32-bit GTK+ 2.4 runtime environment (libraries +
their
# configuration files) that we ship. This works for all but the most broken
# environments, so if we're guessing we try this.
#
# When environment variable VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK is set to "no", we use
# the system's 32-bit GTK+ 2.4 runtime environment.
#
# When environment variable VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK is not set (the
default), we
# try to make an educated guess.

If you could, could you please unset VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK, but make a
modification to /usr/lib/vmware-server-console/lib/wrapper-gtk24.sh?

vm_append_lib 'libgcc_s.so.1'

Does vmware-server-console now start up?

It also might be helpful when reporting problems like this if you could
attach the output of

pmap `pidof /usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console`

when vmware-server-console starts up correctly. Thanks.

Bug#474665: [listen] shoutcast library can't load

2008-04-06 Thread Mohammed Badran
Package: listen

Version: 0.5-4
Severity: important
Tags: patch

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello,
The shoutcast library aren't loading,
i tried to fix it by editing the /usr/lib/listen/webradio/shoutcast.py
by changing the line 52 from
m = re.search('Comprehensive Genre List:([.\S\s]*)Limit by
Bandwidth',html)
to
m = re.search('Comprehensive Genre List:([.\S\s]*)Limit by
Bandwidth:',html)

adding a colon to the end of the Bandwidth and it works ;)
but don't know what to do next so it would be fixed in the package it
self so good luck and i will enjoy the stream :D

Bug#434302: vmware-package: Install vmware-server-console package doesn't load on i386

This is because the old version of GTK that's running doesn't support
"symbolic names", which were introduced in 2.10. I have had this
error with vmware-server-console on AMD64 for many months, and the
only consequence is that the vmware-server-console windows have the
wrong colours. That is, vmware-server-console starts up and runs
fine.

Attached is my custom .gtkrc-2.0 for comparison.

The gtkrc format is only documented in the GTK API, the relevant file
being http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/GtkSettings.html
(change unstable to 2.10 or whatever for a specific release version).

# gtk-theme-name = "HighContrastInverse"

## Gtk-color-scheme exists so that you can customize a theme's color
## scheme without understanding the intricacies of the theme itself.
## If you set gtk-color-scheme in gnome-settings-daemon, this works.
## Just setting it and gtk-theme-name in this file DOES NOT work,
## because symbolic references are resolved at parse time -- that is,
## they only work within the file in which they occur, not in included
## files or gtk-theme-name files.
##
## What to do? You can 1) run gnome-settings-daemon; 2) copy the
## theme you want into ~/.themes/twb and change the ONE LINE that sets
## gtk-color-scheme, then set gtk-theme-name to "twb".  I have done a

2008-04-06 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: vmware-package
Version: 0.22
Severity: normal

I built vmware-server-console thusly:

# make sure contrib is in your sources.list
aptitude install vmware-package unzip &&
cd `mktemp -d` &&
# From http://register.vmware.com/content/download.html
wget
http://download3.vmware.com/software/vmserver/VMware-server-linux-client-1.0.5-80187.zip
 &&
unzip *.zip VMware-server-console-1.0.5-80187.tar.gz &&
rm *.zip &&
make-vmpkg VMware-server-console-1.0.5-80187.tar.gz &&
dpkg -i vmware-server-console/*deb

Attempting to then run vmware-server-console results in it crashing:

$ vmware-server-console
/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console:
/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1: version

/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console:

`GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)
$

However, looking at other bug reports I found this environment
variable, which fixes things.

$ VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force vmware-server-console

I suspect this indicates that the vmware-server-console package should
Depend or Recommend on an obsolete version of GTK and/or should
default to using the "real" GTK rather than the hokey one that VMware
ship.

I have just built the module in a clean sid chroot. I discovered a bug
(missing dependency on module-init-tools) but that would only bite you
after build, and in very rare cases. I guess that this problem is
because you're lacking some kernel headers in your custom install.
Please try building with module-assistant, and the correct headers
installed, and notify me if you can reproduce it.

# apt-get install qc-usb-source
# m-a a-i qc-usb
# apt-get install module-init-tools
# modprobe quickcam

Hello,

Please find attached a diff for a proposed NMU which fixes mrt's
debian/watch -- I tried contacting the maintainer on IRC but seems
unresponsive ATM, so I'll wait a week before sending this.

I advise the maintainer, however, to fix this himself since the
correction is fairly trivial.

I can't seem to reproduce this behaviour. Could you please provide a
copy of your /etc/pam.d/cron file, along with any common files it
incorporates (/etc/pam.d/common-account, etc.)?

Thanx!

Bug#471920: xscreensaver: Crash at startup

Ok I need some sleep/holidays/etc. When I tested the patch in #473681
the other day my second screen was disabled. With two screens and that
patch it still fails the exact same way: one screen is detected as
enclosed, the other as duplicated.

Bug#419950: eth ini. vs. ide ini.

2008-04-06 Thread Lou Poppler

As long as I have had this computer, since some 2.6.8 sarge kernel,
I have occasional problems where the network goes bad, with these lines
repeating forever in the syslog:
Feb 14 06:44:10 legba kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
Feb 14 06:44:10 legba kernel: :00:0f.0: tulip_stop_rxtx() failed

Sometimes the problem does not occur, and everything runs just fine until
I reboot the system, even if I pound on the network, trying to make it fail.
Sometimes the problem shows up, even with moderate network load, and the
network is _very_ sluggish until I reboot.

So far, this does not seem to depend on the kernel version. Each kernel
I've tried is bad sometimes, and occasionally will boot up OK.
After combing through the logs, I have found a pattern which correlates
with my problems. It looks like when I have the problem, there is some
overlapping of the initialization messages for hda and for eth0; and when
the machine is booting OK and will not have a problem, these initialization
messages are separated in the logs. Here are some sample logs:

Here is an extract from dmesg on 2008-04-01, still running today with

Bug#474663: iceweasel: rendering garbled for long pages

2008-04-06 Thread Kevin Mitchell
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0~b5-1
Severity: normal

OK, I know this package is experimental, but part of the reason why I'm
trying it out is to improve the firefox 3 codebase by submitting bugs like
this. I have not submitted an upstream bug as I cannot reproduce this
bug on upstream. Everything seems to work fine (at least in regards to
this problem) with the latest nightly build.

To reproduce run:

1. MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 firefox -safe-mode
http://www.littletechshoppe.com/ns1625/winchest.html
2. select "continue in safe mode".
3. scroll down
4. observe ugly diagonal lines streaking across the page that remain there
after you stop scrolling.

I have observered this occuring on a few pages, but this is the only one
I can remember off hand at the moment. It seems to happen more
frequently on long pages.

Kevin

Bug#474519: nginx: support Debian's /doc/ URL-to-directory mapping

Thanks for your time and interest in nginx. Your patch needs a little
tweaking since it violates Policy as it was sent, yet I think we could
support /doc and /images with the following addition to the default
virtual host:

location /doc {
root   /usr/share;
autoindex on;
allow 127.0.0.1;
deny all;
}

location /images {
root   /usr/share;
autoindex on;
}

CGI, however, seems a little complicate and I don't feel it's safe ATM
to implement it in nginx. Fabio: I've prepared revision -3 of the
package with these two changes, but I'd like to have your opinion on
this topic and also about supporting CGI.

Thanks for your time,
Jose

2008-04-06 Thread Saulo Soares de Toledo
Package: kaffeine
Version: 0.8.6-2
Severity: important

When I put a CD at drive, KDE only mount the disc in specific situations.
For example, when I open Konqueror at CD/DVD folder.

When I open Keffeine directily and try Open a file inside CD/DVD (audio,
video etc.) I can't open! Only because the CD/DVD is not mounted yet!

I need open Konqueror and click the CD into media:// and the CD/DVD is
mounted, then finally I can open my files into Kaffeine.

As we say in New York, "Akhaa!" Thanks, that was exactly the clue I
needed.

This wasn't the fault of the distro, but the software package. Salomé
comes in a package with its own SIP, Ot, omniORB, NetGen, etc., and its
own set of default but non-standard build options.

Removing the -t option you identified overcame the problem, now it works
with sip 4.7.4 in Debian, which should be faithful to the original.

I'll build the whole thing in the next day or two (which will require a
couple more hours to finish the omniORB 4.0->4.1 port), and come back to
this list if it gives me any further trouble.

Thank you again!
-Adam

This looks similar to GNOME #521478.
As we have gnome-panel 2.22.0 in experimental, could you please install it and
check whether this still happens with it?

Bug#474658: compiz-gnome: replacing metacity with compiz is non-trivial

2008-04-06 Thread Kevin Mitchell
Package: compiz-gnome
Version: 0.6.3~git20080115.0ea58487-1
Severity: important

No complaints about the actual functionality of the package. It seems to
work great. Running compiz --replace from within a regular gnome session
does exactly as it is advertised to do.

However, there really needs to be a straightforward way to make compiz
your default window manager instead of metacity. Or better yet, make it
the system-wide default window manager. I've read all sorts of terrible
suggestions like adding an additional startup program via
System->Preferences->Sessions which just executes the command "compiz
--replace". The problem with this of course is that you have just wasted
several CPU cycles starting metacity only to go and "replace" it with
compiz. After several hours of searching I finally found that you can
add the file ~/.gnomerc with the line

export WINDOW_MANAGER=/usr/bin/compiz

to create the desired effect, but this is not indicated anywhere in the
documentation that I can find. Moreover, even if it was I don't believe
that it should be necessary to consult the documentation merely to get
the package working.

I think usability would improve significantly especially for beginner
users if the compiz-gnome package emulated the openbox package which
gives an additional entry in the the "Session" menu of GDM for Gnome on
top of openbox. Maybe this way we would loose fewer novices to Ubuntu ;)

Yes, with totem-xine 2.22.0-2. I installed totem-gstreamer and I do not
get the problem with that. totem-gstreamer also seems to output a better
image, hmm.

Hmmm, perhaps it is an issue with the Xv implementation of my graphics
driver? I'm on an intel card using the drivers in sid here.

Followup-For: Bug #384087

 This is not a bug. The option "Only tag files ending in '.mp3'" must be
selected for ogg encoding. Adding id3 tags creates chunks of data which
are considered corruption by the libvorbis libraries.

Output of command ogginfo in a corrupted file with id3 (v1 & v2) tags

Bug#474657: race condition on gdm stop after killing user procs

2008-04-06 Thread Kevin Mitchell
Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.4-1
Severity: normal

The simplest way to reproduce this bug on my hardware is to create the
following shell script (killdisplay.sh):

#!/bin/sh
pkill -u kevmitch
invoke-rc.d gdm stop

Where "kevmitch" should be replaced by the user logged in graphically via gdm.
su to root from that users display and run

# nohup ./killdisplay.sh

Gdm will indeed stop, but you won't find any framebuffer output, i.e., you
can't log on to the console anymore. Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc don't do anything.
However since I happen to have an ACPI button mapped to /etc/init.d/gdm start,
I was able to restart the daemon which does start X again and runs "normally".
The frame buffer is still dead however and will remain so until reboot no
matter what I do.

This does not happen if I modify the above script to sleep for 1 second in
between killing the procs and stopping gdm:

#!/bin/sh
pkill -u kevmitch
sleep 1
invoke-rc.d gdm stop

This dumps you out on a functional framebuffer console as expected and desired,
but gives the distubing kernel message
[  150.445462] gdm[4927]: segfault at 000800871ff8 rip 003108c5692f rsp
7fff8a9dbac0 error

Increasing the sleep interval to 2 prevents the above segfault from occuring.

I am using xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.2.1-1 on a T60 with

How about just treating "no translations available" as equivalent to LANG=C ?
Superficially, it's less Anglo-centric :-)

Quite the opposite, which is the problem. LANG=C specifies a particular,
somewhat unusual US-English date representation. Therefore (as I
mentioned in a previous email) LANG=C has to be special cased, and
probably shouldn't be treated as identical to "no translation".

Bug#474652: slapd: Problem with LSB header in init.d script

Package:  slapd
Version:  2.4.7-6.1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: incorrect-dependency

I just checked the boot order in unstable on a machine with dependency
based boot sequencing enabled, and discovered a problem with the
init.d scripts provided in this package. It refuses to install when
using dependency based boot sequencing. The reason is that it depend
on syslog, which isn't provided by any init.d script. It should use
the virtual facility $syslog instead. While looking at the current
header, I saw it need /usr/ mounted and should depend on $remote_fs,
and also need operational network and should depend on the virtual
facility $network instead of the networking script name. Last, for
the "single user" runlevel 1, it should be stopped to ease
maintainence, so 1 should be listed in default-stop.

Here is a patch to solve this issue.

Right, looks like it's a known problem in xine-lib, reassigning to

The package python-setuptools was already installed. So that seems not
to be a good starting point.

But, for a short time i was able to use elisa. Last week I added an external
TV Screen and changed my xorg.conf to use the second monitor, (seperate
X Server) and after that i was able to use elisa, but only on my lcd not
on the
tv screen. But for now, elisa shows the same behaviour, also with tv screen
connected. I will have a look at it, if i've some time left this week
and play a
little bit with the settings and maybe i can determine the xorg-settings
on wich
elisa (or pigment) fail or/and work.

Bug#469338: (no subject)

2008-04-06 Thread Sebastian Pipping

Any progress? Is there a way to workaround this?
I have the very same problem with

unionfs-modules-2.6.24-1-686 (2.6.24+2.2.3-2.6.24-6)

on Testing.

Bug#443606: Improvements for kbd?

2008-04-06 Thread Samuel Thibault
Hello,

I'm hitting the converse bug: now that linux 2.6.24 is unicode by
default, the kbd scripts don't manage to set the 2-6 consoles back to
8bit. That becomes quite of a problem since that prevents from e.g.
typing accented letters.

Maybe the intent was actually 1 (i.e. single user mode, in which only
the first console is used), but then console-screen.kbd.sh should be
also called in other levels, i.e. debian/rules should rather contain
something like

dh_installinit --init-script=console-screen.kbd.sh -r -u"start 01 1 2 3 4 5."

> I also don't know the purpose of this "sleep 3" command.

I'm also really wondering about it.

So my guess is that the fix should be either using

dh_installinit --init-script=console-screen.kbd.sh -r -u"start 01 1 2 3 4 5."

in debian/rules, so that only the first console is setup in runlevel 1,
or

console-screen.kbd.sh should just drop the if [ "$RUNLEVEL" = S ] case.

Samuel

Bug#474218: nss-ldapd: Crashes when looking up many groups

This is still against an AD LDAP server.

I build using 'DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip debuild'. :)

It is i386.

Good idea.  Done.

I included the entire output that time, and it also included stuff
before any LDAP operations.

Will try, but it isn't too easy as there are 15000 lines of output. :)

Nope. You are right. I messed up this test, and used an old version.

It did not solve the problem. Still crashing. Here is the complete

Bug#474504: [qingy] changing to a virtual console kills X-session

2008-04-06 Thread David Andel

Riccardo Stagni wrote:

What do you mean with "last upgrade"? Last qingy upload is dated back to

Well, it happens since a few days. I am upgrading every day.

X started/was launched from the first virtual console (tty1)?
X was started by qingy or by some other login manager? (xdm, wdm, etc)

It does not matter from which virtual console X was started. The only
thing which matters is that it is started from qingy. When changing to
any other virtual console, X gets killed and I end up in tty1, no matter
which one I have chosen to go to.

Are you using closed source X drivers? (eg, nvidia ones)

no

Can you provide your inittab?

This wouldn't work because SUN's java (and others) do provide
java2-runtime. If josm drops this dependency users might need to install
a jvm they don't want to.
It's also current policy to depend on the virtual package, also this should be
changed in the future as far as i know.

CONFIG_SECCOMP was disabled for performance reasons, but it has always
been harmless. Quoting the author:

 | On x86-64 SECCOMP generates absoutely zero performance hit.

 | The original seccomp patch for x86 also generated absolutely zero

Bug#467298: updating etch -> volatile helps

2008-04-06 Thread Fabian Ruff

Hello,

I think that updating to volatile doesn't really fixes the problem:

I've experienced the same problems as mentioned above and updated to
volatile about 3-4 weeks ago:

~# apt-show-versions |grep clamav
clamav-base/etch uptodate 0.92.1~dfsg-1volatile1
clamav-daemon/etch uptodate 0.92.1~dfsg-1volatile1
clamav-freshclam/etch uptodate 0.92.1~dfsg-1volatile1
libclamav2/etch uptodate 0.91.2-1~volatile1
clamav/etch uptodate 0.92.1~dfsg-1volatile1
libclamav3/etch uptodate 0.92.1~dfsg-1volatile1

This worked fine until 30 minutes ago when clamav went down again with
apparently the same problem.

Greetings
Fabian

Bug#470863: ~/.fehbg: filenames are not "escaped" correctly which can lead to execution of malicious code

2008-04-06 Thread Ben Hutchings
This is not a security hole. If you can modify a user's ~/.fehbg you
can almost certainly edit other shell scripts in the user's home
directory too. Furthermore, while it is possible for feh to write a
destructive command to ~/.fehbg, it is extremely unlikely that a user
will make it do so accidentally.

Bug#474646: smime_keys doesn't handle mutt -Q tmpdir with ~

2008-04-06 Thread carbonated beverage
Package: mutt-patched
Version: 1.5.17+20080114-1~bpo40+1

Not sure if this should be in mutt or mutt-patched, so sending it here
for now.

My .muttrc has:
set tmpdir = /home/ramune/.tmp

Due to this, mutt_Q in /usr/bin/smime_keys returns ~/.tmp for the tmpdir
variable (and a few others, such as the S/MIME store, etc).

As mutt translates the path to ~ instead of sending exactly what was in
the .muttrc, smime_keys fails to create the temporary PEM file as it tries
to open() the literal path ~/.tmp/smime/hash.0 instead of substituting
/home/ramune for ~. I changed the muttrc to remove tildes after having
problems with smime_keys, but it appears mutt still does substitutions.

Having mutt print exactly what the user put into the ~/.muttrc would work
as a work-around, but the smime_keys script should probably do tilde
expansion as well.

Debian/etch, i386 with mutt-patched from backports.

If any additional information's needed, please let me know.

Thanks,

Bug#474647: BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter) parameter on powerpc

2008-04-06 Thread Sjoerd Simons
Package: libgtk-vnc-1.0-0
Version: 0.3.4-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

  I tried the experimental version of libgtk-vnc-1.0-0 on powerpc because of
  the endianness fix. Unfortunaly this version causes a BadColor error from X,
  while -1 worked fine modulo the color shifting:

The program 'vinagre' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 3645 error_code 12 request_code 1 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
  that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
  To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
  option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
  backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I would be surprised if this is actually the case as there would be
many, many more bugreports like this. However what often can happen is
that the settings do not take because the values apply to things that
are not there or they are overwritten.

This usually happens with settings to network devices, for example.
Can you give me an specific example of where this is happening?

Bug#474645: libnet-smtp-ssl-perl: please depend on libio-socket-ssl-perl >= 1.06

2008-04-06 Thread Raphael Geissert
Package: libnet-smtp-ssl-perl
Version: 1.01-1

Hi :),

Please add a versioned dependency on libio-socket-ssl-perl (>= 1.06) because
of a bug[1] in that package preventing libnet-smtp-ssl-perl from working.

Note that the current version of libio-socket-ssl-perl in Debian is older than
the required one, so this package will stay in unstable until the maintainer
updates[2] the problematic package.

Please, report bugs in English, even if they only happen with some locales.
Otherwise we may not be able to triage them.

Doesn't it work if you activate it from View>Show thounsand separators (or

Yes.

If I run xine on this file or any other, it exits almost immediately

The only point is to fix the name if it's invalid. So where is Xfce 4 named
Xfce4, and by whom? I didn't find that on Wikipedia nor on Xfce's website
with a quick look.

Bug#474644: libffi4-dev Provides: libffi-dev, but does not appear to actually be compatible

2008-04-06 Thread Nathaniel Smith
Package: libffi4-dev
Version: 4.1.2-6
Severity: normal

I have python-gobject-dev installed; python-gobject-dev Depends: on
libffi-dev. On my system, this dependency was satisfied by libffi4-dev,
because libffi4-dev Provides: libffi-dev.

However, this leaves me with a broken python-gobject-dev package, because
at least some operations seem to actually need libffi-dev; libffi4-dev
doesn't work:

# With libffi4-dev installed:
$ pkg-config --libs --cflags pygobject-2.0
Package libffi was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libffi.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'libffi', required by 'PyGObject', not found

# With libffi-dev installed instead:
$ pkg-config --libs --cflags pygobject-2.0
-I/usr/include/pygtk-2.0 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include
-lgobject-2.0 -lglib-2.0

(I'm not entirely sure whether this should be considered a bug in
libffi or python-gobject; this is just my best guess.)

Bug#474643: gtablix: should this package be orphaned or removed?

2008-04-06 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: gtablix
Version: 0.9.13-1-1
Severity: important
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

* Out of date
* Last maintainer upload 2006.
* Low popcon. (~30 installed).

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.
Also, you can study the possibility of taking co-maintainers.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, send the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (replace nn with this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O:  --
thanks

If you think it should be removed, send the following commands instead:

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

Hi,

Is it only the thumbnailer failing, or can't you play the file in totem

If it fails to play in Totem, please try using xine-ui.

This is a problem in libpcap, not in ntpd. It's also a harmless
warning.

Josm is known to (approximately) work only on a few free Java VMs
(gij-4.1 and jamvm). I think we should make the package depend only on
those, and not on the generic java2-runtime.

Anyway, if you want make josm truly work, you have to add packages from
non-free and install the JVM from Sun. We're waiting for it to become
completely free.

chvt is not strictly necessary if you use uswusp, because s2ram does
it's own vt switching (uswsusp should be installed by default, as it's a
Recommends. That's why I'm downgrading to severity important).
I tested it on my laptop and suspend works just fine without chvt (using
uswusp myself).
Nonetheless adding a Depends on console-tools is probably a good thing
to do, because then we are on the safe side if people chose not to use
uswsusp.

Cheers,
Michael

Hi,

Is this also a problem with Totem from testing and unstable?

Hi,

Is this still a problem with Totem 2.22?

I haven't been able to reproduce it, both totem-gstreamer and totem-xine
will display the video fine.

Will do. In the worst case, I'll also continue to try again with new
kernel and madwifi versions as they become available and will report
back if there is any change. I suspect that this behavior will go away
on its own in the future :-).

Perhaps, which is a pity since it fixed another problem I had been
seeing from 2.6.19-2.6.22--it works with gpsbabel's usb: driver.

Thanks for the feedback, and for maintaining this package!
