Bug#493683: ITP: libmarkdown-php -- a port to PHP of the Markdown program

2008-08-03 Thread Daniel Watkins
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Daniel Watkins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: libmarkdown-php
  Version : 1.0.1m
  Upstream Author : Michel Fortin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: PHP
  Description : a port to PHP of the Markdown program

“Markdown” is two things: a plain text markup syntax, and a software
tool that converts the plain text markup to HTML for publishing on the
web.

The Markdown syntax allows you to write text naturally and format it
without using HTML tags. More importantly: in Markdown format, your text
stays enjoyable to read for a human being, and this is true enough that
it makes a Markdown document publishable as-is, as plain text. If you
are using text-formatted email, you already know some part of the
syntax.

PHP Markdown can work as a plug-in for WordPress and bBlog, as a
modifier for the Smarty templating engine, or as a remplacement for
textile formatting in any software that support textile.

The obvious workaround is to remove python-urwid. There's also a

I meant to say root directory of the filesystem in question.

While /lib/init/rw is the main issue at the moment, as a general rule it
doesn't do any harm to have an extra call to restorecon, so doing it for all
tmpfs filesystems is best.

Yes, it shouldn't.

Perhaps I did not put it clear enough. My concern is the safe behaviour
of checkinstall -- during the packaging stage, it should not actually
change the filesystem. I don't know if I'm correct in my understanding.
No filesystem translation means (sudo) checkinstall *actually* writes
files in /usr/bin, /usr/share, etc in the filesystem (not really safe as
existing files may be overwritten/changed) while with file translation
it does this in a temporary location, simulating the changes and is
hence safe.

I discovered the problem when I saw compressing man pages takes a lot of
time but unfortunately I cannot reproduce this problem behaviour any
more. :-( I use sid and regularly updates stuff. It may be some
unfortunate combinations of events. I've now set debug level to 2 in the
config file and if I found similar happenings in the future, I'll send
in the log. Will sending in the log file be enough?

I tried to reproduce this using the stellarium package in Lenny, but
it work for me. This mean two things. First of all, the package work
for someone, and is thus not broken for everyone, and this make me
reduce the severity to important.

Next, it mean you need to help us figure out how to reproduce the
problem, as it is not straight forward. Can you try to run stellarium
under valgrind, to see why it segfaults? Could it be related to your
locale? Does it still segfault when you use 'LC_ALL=C stellarium'?
Could it be something in your configuration file messing it up? Try
moving ~/.stellarium out of the way and see if it still crashes.

Run it like this under valgrind:

  valgrind stellarium

It will give more details about the crash. It would also be useful to
see a strace from when it fail. Can you run

  strace stellarium

and attach the output to BTS?

Bug#493678: libtheora0: Code not built with -fpic or -fPIC

2008-08-03 Thread Russell Coker
Package: libtheora0
Version: 1.0~beta3-1
Severity: important

http://etbe.coker.com.au/2007/02/10/execmod/

The above URL has background information on the execmod denial from SE
Linux.

The following command shows that some parts of the library have not been
comiled with -fpic or -fPIC, I believe that this will prevent it from
working on some architectures (it's also a minor security problem - and
it prevents using the library on SE Linux systems).

# eu-findtextrel /usr/lib/libtheora.so.0.3.3 |uniq
either the file containing the function 'theora_decode_init' or the file
containing the function 'theora_encode_header' is not compiled with
-fpic/-fPIC

Below I have a cc command taken from the library build process, a simple
cc command to create a shared object, and a run of eu-findtextrel to
demonstrate that the problem is in the source file in question (it seems
that running against the entire shared object doesn't identify the right
function as the source of the problem):

cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I../include -I../lib -I../lib/dec \
-I../lib/enc -Wall -Wno-parentheses -O3 -fforce-addr \
-fomit-frame-pointer -finline-functions -funroll-loops -g -O2 -g -Wall \
-O2 -c enc/x86_32/dct_decode_mmx.c  -fPIC -fpic -DPIC -o \
.libs/dct_decode_mmx.o
cc -shared .libs/dct_decode_mmx.o -o t.so
eu-findtextrel t.so
enc/x86_32/dct_decode_mmx.c not compiled with -fpic/-fPIC

So it seems that assembly code in enc/x86_32/dct_decode_mmx.c is
responsible. It would be ideal if this code could be fixed in time for
Lenny.

ugly and harmless KeyboardInterrupt traceback that occurs when you ^C the

Bug#493675: Please make status text link to BTS "Bugs submitted by.." page

2008-08-03 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: debgtd
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

Please make the "X bugs (Y sleeping; Z ignored)" status text link to BTS
"Bugs submitted by.." page corresponding to the current user, eg:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?submitter=chris%40chris-lamb.co.uk

Although the linked URL would obviously not reflect the "sleeping" and
"ignored" states, it does contain the bugs in web form.

Patch attached. It was necessary to refactor the "display URL" functionality
such that it could be called by both gtk.link_button_set_uri_hook and
row_selected_cb.

Regards,

Is this a laptop or a desktop machine? If it's a desktop machine, it
shouldn't have lvds at all and we may need a quirk.

Bug#491805: RFS: sqlline

2008-08-03 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

I have two comments on this package.

1) Please consider to name the package sqlline-java or similar. Not strictly
   necessary but it do not clutter the namespace as much. :)
2) Do not strip the .orig.tar.gz file unless strictly necessary. In this case
   I can not see that it is necessary. It would be good to ask upstream if it
   is possible to release one version without GPL references... If that is
   necessary is up to the ftp masters to decide though when accepting the
package.

Best regards,

// Ola

Bug#339862: what's the alternative?

2008-08-03 Thread Russell Coker
The reason for putting SE Linux in permissive mode is that if the filesystem
is corrupted then the wrong labels may be on files and that may prevent
recovery operations.

The alternative to automatically doing it is for the sys-admin to do so
manually if the need arises.

I find it difficult to imagine a situation where the sysadmin would not
realise the need to do this (the AVC messages will go to the console if SE
Linux prevents an operation). I also find it difficult to imagine a
situation where SE Linux would permit the machine to run the init scripts but
not permit the sysadmin to put it in permissive mode after getting a single
user shell.

I think that this is more a convenience issue than anything else.

Bug#493672: Please make bug number and subject columns sortable

2008-08-03 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: debgtd
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi, please make the bug number and subject columns sortable. A bug number
serves as an effective timestamp of when it was filed and as I am generally
interested in prioritising my work on older issues, being able to sort by
this column would be useful.

In addition, being able to sort by the bug title allows quasi-grouping of
similarly named bugs (such as mass bug filings) and any bugs that have had an
artificial prefixes added.

Patch attached.

Bug#493670: eieio binds a key sequence it shouldn't bind

Package: eieio

Eieio seems to bind the key sequence "C-h C" to 'describe-class'.

It should not do this, as C-h C is used by Emacs for
`describe-coding-system'.

Bug#493669: Please use non-redirected bugs.debian.org URLs when displaying bugs

Package: debgtd

Please use the "/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=$BUG" URLs over the "/$BUG"
variant when displaying bug numbers. Although they are more ugly, when the
BTS is overloaded or one is accessing it on a slow connection, the time
taken to respond with the simple redirection is non-trivial.

There is no danger of this URL scheme becoming stale - it is hardcoded in a
number of other places and in URLs on countless sites outside of Debian's
control.

Patch attached to be more explicit.

Bug#485069: good idea

2008-08-03 Thread Steve M. Robbins
I support the idea of a generic cdbs/simple-patchsys README.source.
Just wanted to point out one I found on the web [1] that is arguably
superior to that posted here, since (a) it doesn't assume
tarball-in-tarball, and (b) it describes use of cdbs-edit-patch (which
is news to me).

Bug#493479: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64: can't see a quick fix in the sources

2008-08-03 Thread David Witbrodt
I've taken this search for a bugfix about as far as I can,
without outside help. Nothing that I've tried has allowed
me to create a 2.6.26 kernel for my "fileserver" machine with
the boot parameter "hpet=disable". That also includes the
stock 2.6.26-1 kernel. (On my "desktop" machine, both stock
and custom 2.6.26-1 kernels boot just fine, though I do use
"notsc" on all of my machines to avoid annoying messages at
boot.)

Hoping that some simple change was made to the HPET sources
between 2.6.25 and 2.6.26 which I could manually revert, I
took a quick look for HPET-related files. For example:

  find  linux-source-2.6.26  -name  '*hpet*'  -a \
! -path  'linux-source-2.6.26/debian*'

Most of the files listed had few or no changes between kernel
versions. The most interesting results can be seen (if you
unpack 2.6.25-7 and 2.6.26-1 sources in the same directory)
with this command:

  diff -u linux-source-2.6.2[56]/arch/x86/kernel/hpet.c

This is what I saw:

At first I thought there might be an operator precedence bug with
the first change, at "&timer->hpet_config". When I thought about
it more, I realized that the kernel works just fine on my "desktop"
machine.

At any rate, a kernel built with just the first change reverted
froze like the stock kernel; and a kernel built with both changes
reverted also froze.

Unless one of the tiny changes in the other files found with the
'find' command shown above, then the problem is not located in any
source files with "hpet" in their name. That would mean that other
changes to the kernel are impacting HPET, and I simply don't have
the know-how (yet) to track down such bugs.

Bug#493667: nfs-common: nfs quite broken

2008-08-03 Thread Miles Bader
Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.1.3-1
Severity: important

After upgrading from nfs-common 1:1.1.2-6 to 1:1.1.3-1, some nfs-mounted
filesystems became almost unusable.

The basic symptom was that it acted as if I was a different user: I
could not access my files unless they were world-readable.

So for instance, if I have a file ".env.tamagawa" in my home dir:

   $ ls -l ~/.env.tamagawa
   -rw-rw 1 miles 5523 2008-05-26 11:21 /home/soft1/miles/.env.tamagawa

I'd get permission denied errors:

   $ cat ~/.env.tamagawa
   cat: /home/soft1/miles/.env.tamagawa: Permission denied

even though I am the file owner:

   $ id
   uid=31295(miles) gid=10273(cmp)
groups=20(dialout),24(cdrom),29(audio),46(plugdev),112(fuse),126(vboxusers),10105(ul-tool),10125(ul-soft),10273(cmp),10512(lang),10514(prof),10570(sapphire),31295(miles)

I could also not chmod the file, getting permission denied errors.

Downgrading back to nfs-common 1:1.1.2-6, and remounting the
filesystem solved the problems.

I'm not exactly sure what info you need, but it's a sun NFS server,
using the following mount options:

   HOST:FS on /home/soft1 type nfs
(rw,noatime,nfsvers=3,tcp,rsize=4096,wsize=4096,intr,addr=10.30.129.164)

Thanks,

-Miles

Bug#493666: Should respect HTTP Last-modified headers where appropriate

2008-08-03 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: di-netboot-assistant
Version: 0.36
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The attached patch attached ensures di-netboot-assistant respects HTTP
Last-modified headers where appropriate and only re-downloads a image if
it has changed relative to a possible version in the cache.

In the case of wget, some ugly manuevering is required as the -N and -O
options are famously mutually exclusive. In addition, the change to curl's
options (filed elsewhere as #493664) is also incorporated here.

Bug#306825: develock-el and html-helper-mode combined break xemacs

If you use html-helper-mode package together with html-font.el[1],
what I discovered seems to be the cause of your problem. Namely
the `html-font-setup' function defined in html-font.el does not
set `font-lock-defaults' with `html-helper-font-lock-keywords'.
Because of this, I believe html-font.el has never worked with
XEmacs no matter whether Develock is used. Without Develock it
does not cause an error but simply does not work.

(Though I don't recall what version of html-font.el I used when
 I tested Develock first. It might have been something another.)

The patch is below. Tested with XEmacs 21.4.21 and 21.5-b28:

Why would you want something in /sbin to call something in /usr/s?bin ?

You need to port the algorithm.

Bug#384190: develock-el: Bad highlighting in Perl mode

I'm so sorry my late reply. I contacted to upstream authors and he said
following.

---
I believe it isn't Develock issue because Develock doesn't judge
whether one is a comment or not, and also doesn't do the syntactic
highlighting on comments. You can verify it by turning Develock
off (`M-x develock-mode RET' toggles `develock-mode'; see the minor
mode string that changes in the mode line). Anyway I tried some
perl sources visiting in some versions of Emacsen with the line
that you brought up and didn't see such a problem. So, I guess
it is due to something wrong in your configuration or in the
version of font-lock that you used. Does it still happen even now?

Please check it out?

Bug#493665: Crash with libnautilus-extension1 2.22 and nautilus 2.20

2008-08-03 Thread Günther Brammer
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.20.0-6
Severity: minor

I downgraded nautilus from 2.22 to 2.20 because a webdav share didn't
have gvfs in it's whitelist (I think.), and I got this message:

nautilus: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-1.0/libnautilus-burn-extension.so:
undefined symbol: nautilus_file_info_get_vfs_file_info

The issue went away after I downgraded libnautilus-extension1 from
2.22.5.1-1 to 2.20.0-6.

I also tested the combination of libnautilus-burn4 2.20.0-1 and
libnautilus-extension1 2.22.5.1-1, and got this:

nautilus: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-1.0/libgnome-mount.so: undefined symbol:
nautilus_file_info_get_drive

So it looks like there are some undeclared dependencies or conflicts
somewhere, but I'm not sure where, and this is probably not a problem
for people who don't downgrade nautilus.

Bug#493409: simutrans-pak64: FTBFS: Invalid image width

2008-08-03 Thread peter green
I have managed to fix it up so it doesn't error out but it produces
different output on the two platforms. and i'm finding the code very
hard to follow.

The first issue was a relatively simple one.

in utils/dr_rdpng.c some tweaking is required, replace the call to
png_get_IHDR with

   //png_uint_32 is 64 bit on some architectures!
   png_uint_32 widthpu32,heightpu32;
   png_get_IHDR(
   png_ptr, info_ptr,
   &widthpu32, &heightpu32, &bit_depth, &color_type,
   &interlace_type, NULL, NULL
   );
   *width = widthpu32;
   *height = heightpu32;

The second problem is that the compbination of calculations in
obj_node_t::write_data and obj_node_t::write_data_at leads to negative
offsets. I dunno what the correct fix is for that (I tried both
replacing 4 with sizeof(obj_besch_t) and replacing sizeof(obj_besch_t)
with 4) both stopped it crashing neither made it produce the same output
as the i386 version.

For lynx its documents are setted as HELPFILE in its
configuration file (lynx.cfg) and should be displayed
with key "?" so I guess it is not worth while to separate
its documentation.

Bug#493664: Should call curl with "-f/--fail" to detect HTTP errors

2008-08-03 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: di-netboot-assistant
Version: 0.36
Tags: patch

By default, curl will return successfully regardless of the HTTP error code.
For example:

  if curl --silent http://www.debian.org/404 >/dev/null
  then
 echo "Huh? But the page returned 404!"
  else
 echo "Curl failed."
  fi

di-netboot-assistant should call curl with "-f/--fail" so that it returns
non-zero to prevent it from continuing - if there is no checksum available,
a mirror's "404" page might be installed as a kernel or initrd!

Patch attached.

Bug#493663: vlc: Does not play video tracks

2008-08-03 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: vlc

For me vlc refuses to play video tracks in video files saying it has no
decoder for formats such as XVID, DX50 or avc1.

These are the most common video formats so this makes vlc pretty useless
for video playback.

Notice the missing msgstr? If you resubmit a po file, I'll be happy to
reupload for that change.

Bug#493643: Duplicated.

2008-08-03 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello Jabka:

  This problem has already been reported and addressed. Take a look at the
others bug reports (#480707, #480855, #484779, #490686). The problem is not
really from kcontrol, but from klaptopdaemon, hence I've reassigned as well.

  Thanks for reporting,

Bug#493479: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64: RTC suggestions do not make kernel bootable

2008-08-03 Thread David Witbrodt

> No, there are no Debian-specific changes. But 2.6.26 uses the new rtc

  OK, I read '/linux-source-2.6.26/Documentation/rtc.txt' and then tried
building a kernel for each of your suggestions below.

> You may check the following:
> 1. Disable RTC_CLASS, set RTC=y

  I had RTC_CLASS disabled already, but RTC=m.  I changed to RTC=y as
suggested. The resulting kernel freezes just like the stock kernel.

> 2. Set RTC_CLASS=y, RTC_DRV_CMOS=y

  Setting RTC_CLASS=y causes RTC to disappear in 'make menuconfig', and
that equates to RTC=n, as desired. The resulting kernel still froze.

  Both of these test kernels were configured with HPET=y and HPET_MMAP=y.
Experiments last night with HPET=y and HPET_MMAP=n made no difference,
though without modifications to RTC* (they all had RTC=m).

  In short, unless some change is made to the sources, then any d-i CD
with 2.6.26 tried on hardware like this machine will freeze during boot.
Not even the MAGIC_SYSRQ tricks get a response.

  Do you have any other suggestions?
  Should I try building from kernel.org sources? (I don't think it could
possibly make a difference... but if I did that, I could then justify
submitting the regression report to LKML myself instead of using the
Debian Kernel Team as intermediaries.)

Thanks,
Dave W.

klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'digikamalbums'

I think this error is due to the fact that the protocol files of digikam are
not installed.

I changed debian/digikam.install to:
usr/bin/digi*
usr/include
usr/lib
usr/share/applications/kde4/digikam.desktop
usr/share/apps/digikam/
usr/share/icons/*/*/apps/digikam.*
usr/share/kde4/

These files are now installed and things are working better.
It would be great if someone that better understands which files should and
should not be installed did a full review.

Bug#493662: simple checkbox value issues

2008-08-03 Thread Joey Hess
Package: libcgi-formbuilder-perl
Version: 3.05.01-6
Severity: normal

I want a simple checkbox (with just one option, either it's checked, or
not). I want the form to see whether I checked it, of course, and just
re-display
it in the same state when submitted.

#!/usr/bin/perl
use CGI::FormBuilder;
use CGI;
my $q=CGI->new;
print $q->header;
my $form=CGI::FormBuilder->new(sticky => 1, fields => ["testing"]);
print "got: ".$form->field("testing")."\n";
$form->field(
name => "testing",
type => "checkbox",
value => 1,
cgi => $q,
options => [ [ 1 => "checked?" ] ],
);
print $form->render;

If you try this code out, the checkbox will initially be checked, and it will
say
"got:" above it. Leave it checked and post the form, and it stays checked, and
it
shows "got: 1". As expected so far.

Now, uncheck it, and post the form. Here CGI::FormBuilder loses track of the
checkbox
not being checked, and becomes checked again. This despite sticky mode being
enabled.

This doesn't happen for other types of fields. So if it's converted to radio
buttons, it will remember if 0 or 1 was chosen, stickily:

#!/usr/bin/perl
use CGI::FormBuilder;
use CGI;
my $q=CGI->new;
print $q->header;
my $form=CGI::FormBuilder->new(sticky => 1, fields => ["testing"]);
print "got: ".$form->field("testing")."\n";
$form->field(
name => "testing",
type => "radio",
value => 1,
cgi => $q,
options => [ 0, 1 ],
);
print $form->render;

But, that's not as usable as a checkbox, IMHO.

To work around this problem, you have to avoid setting a value for the checkbox
when the form is submitted:

#!/usr/bin/perl
use CGI::FormBuilder;
use CGI;
my $q=CGI->new;
print $q->header;
my $form=CGI::FormBuilder->new();
$form->field(
name => "testing",
type => "checkbox",
cgi => $q,
options => [ [ 1 => "checked?" ] ],
);
print "got: ".$form->field("testing")."\n";
if (! $form->submitted) {
$form->field(name => "testing", value => 1);
}
print $form->render;

Works ok, but is not very consistent with the rest of formbuilder's behavior
WRT sticky fields, and was not easy for me to come up with..

Bug#493659: nfs-common: unicode characters in nfs(5) man page format incorrectly

2008-08-03 Thread Nicholas Breen
Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.1.2-6
Severity: minor

The nfs(5) man page has a pair of non-ASCII right single quotation marks
in place of ordinary apostrophes, which causes incorrect formatting on
the terminal (search for 'large relative'). Every other apostrophe in
the man pages are nice boring 0x27 characters, so this is probably a
typo. It's present in 1:1.1.3-1 as well.

Since Lenny is frozen, by now we should not upload a new release,
either. I backported the upstream fix from CVS, and created a branch off
1.5.1-1 in pkg-ruby-extras team's repository
(packages/libcairo-ruby/branches/1.5.1-1+bug487204).

I tested with two applications that depend on libcairo-ruby1.8, packages
treil and edit-json (this one depends indirectly on libcairo-ruby1.8
through libgtk2-ruby1.8), and they seemed to work ok. The script that
demonstrated the problem also run ok, despite the infinite loop. ;)

Lucas, could you please check the package? It's here:

I don't care. Please attach the preprocessed source with the command
line options used to build this file. For bonus points, please rebuild
using gcc-4.3 from unstable.

Please give some more details about this:

- can you run `lsmod` in a terminal so we know which network driver you
use? do you know the model of your card?
- does this happen ALWAYS when connecting to an invisible AP?
- are you only connecting to the wireless AP? You are not using VPN or
something else from NetworkManager?

thank you

Bug#493634: iceweasel: Iceweasel rewrites host in URL randomly

2008-08-03 Thread Bill Wohler
The problem was caused by a combination of a "search newt.com" directive
and a wildcard DNS entry in my zone file.

I've never used wildcards for reasons such as this, but when I recently
switched to using Network Solutions's DNS manager, they set up a
wildcard record by default and I neglected to delete it.

After deleting the wildcard record, the problem I previously described
went away. I also set up a local caching-only server using dnsmasq to
get around the transient DNS problems I was also having.

Bug#490680: Dangling symlinks after update

2008-08-03 Thread Luigi Toscano
Hello,
I experienced the same issue. I updated from the sun-java5-* packages to
openjdk-6-* on my Debian Lenny (using pinning), but the /etc/alternatives/*
symlinks (including those related to the *-javaplugin.so alternatives) were
not updated.

I ran the following command:

apt-get --purge remove sun-java5-jre openjdk-6-jdk+ icedtea-gcjwebplugin+

Apart from this issue, apt-get executed successfully, and the execution of

update-java-alternatives -s java-6-openjdk

fixed the dangling symlinks.

So, if I run 'apt-get dist-upgrade', these packages get newly installed.
So this is not a bug in update-notifier.

It is actually a bug in update-manager (which is launched by
update-notifier when the user selects 'install updates'). Thus I'm
cloning the bug, and leaving the original blocked by the clone (so that
others reporting this bug in update-notifier will see this message).

Why do we have apt-get, aptitude, synaptic, update-notifier,
update-manager and others, all implementing their own dependency
tracking, pinning, recommends-handling and logic for picking which
packages to install, anyway?

Bug#492863: update-notifier: the tray icon keeps finding updates even when the system is up to date version graph

2008-08-03 Thread Sam Morris
Looks like the culprit is the python script that update-notifier
launches to discover if there are updates available:

$ /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check -p
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
xscreensaver
bse-alsa
xli

Looking further, it seems that depcache.MarkedInstall returns true for
these packages. But I have never asked anything to install them, and I
don't know where apt would even keep track of this information.

I have problems with docker (the parameter -iconsize doesn't seems to
work, lots of apps don't work unless you use the -wmaker option).

I found tryion very straight-forward, all works as expected out of the box
and unlike docker (which is openbox2-oriented), it's developed with ion3
in mind.

So even when both docker and tryion have pretty much the same objectives,
I don't find them redundant (or are as redundant as Claws Mail and
Evolution, for example).

Thank you.
