Bug#495658: FTBFS with dash: install: cannot stat `php/images/*.{gif,png}': No such file or directory
Package: zoph Version: 0.7.3-1 Severity: important Hi, During a rebuild of your package using dash as /bin/sh, it failed to build with the following error: install: cannot stat `php/images/*.{gif,png}': No such file or directory, due to a bashism in debian/rules This bug is part of the dash release goal (see http://release.debian.org/lenny/goals.txt). If you intend to fix this bug yourself, please do so ASAP (and please indicate so in the bug log, by tagging it pending, for example). If you don't, I'll prepare an NMU (please note that 0-day NMU rules apply for bugs part of a release goal). If you want more information about dash as /bin/sh, you can read: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2008/01/msg00189.html https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DashAsBinSh A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . Is that okay with you?, upstream's point releases usually are of good quality. Please send us the diff between the current version in lenny and .5. Here it is, it includes the two patches for #494097. Bug#494607: po4a-gettextize (Docbook support): Move option to an inline tag
On Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 11:00:36PM +0200, Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a wrote: Package: po4a Version: 0.33.3-1 Severity: normal I'm trying to use po4a-gettetize to convert Nmap's Docbook-XML manual page I try to convert the Subversion book into PO format ... its painfully difficult mainly because there are many 'option' tags inline and that a) makes the po4a-gettextize process not work properly b) converts the XML file into many msgids which will be very difficult to handle I fully agree with this bug report. This is probably also the reason why the Debian installation guide doesn't use po4a (translations_po.txt in installers svn: We have chosen poxml as that gives better context (it does not split paragraphs) for translation.). I think that the option tags should be moved over to the list of 'inline' tags, I do not know the impact this might have in other documents, however. Proposed patch: This patch works really fine. But why doesn't it work without this patch using options? I carefully studied the man page of Locale::Po4a::Xml and the following should work: po4a-updatepo -f docbook --master-charset=UTF-8 \ -m ../en/book/ch09-reference.xml -p de.po --previous \ -o doctype=book \ -o nodefault=option -o inline=option (Called from within a working copy of http://svn.red-bean.com/svnbook/trunk/src/de/) Nevertheless I get: # type: Content of: chaptersect1parafootnotepara #: ../en/book/ch09-reference.xml:21 msgid Well, you don't need a subcommand to use the msgstr # type: Content of: chaptersect1parafootnotepara #: ../en/book/ch09-reference.xml:22 msgid option, but we'll get to that in just a minute. msgstr which cannot be used as a sentence is split into two msgids. Also an additional -o translated=option (or/and ommitting -o nodefault=option) seems not to help! I'm lost. Jens -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#495665: [okular] failure to accomodate permanent 'fit width' behaviour
Package: okular Version: 0.7-2 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hi :) I'm very pleased that Okular has made it to Lenny as I'm hoping in the long-term to replace KPDF. One issue that I've encountered is an inability of Okular to configure any particular permanence for the 'fit width' setting. As of v0.7 the behaviour for all new PDF's that are opened are to display them with the 'fit to page' option. If one does change the option to 'fit width' then Okular will remember this on a case by case basis for each PDF. There's nothing wrong with the 'fit page' option per se, however I would have thought for a lot of people (especially notebook users) that it would be preferable for the 'fit width' option to facilitate comfortable viewing. I've looked upstream with KDE and bug #167220 suggested that someone open a specific bug for this. I understand that it is Debian policy for bugs in our packages to be reported upstream by maintainers where possible so I thought it would be best to open this bug here. --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 Debian Release: lenny/sid 500 testing www.debian-multimedia.org 500 testing security.debian.org 500 testing ftp.uk.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ==-+-= kdebase-runtime (= 4:4.1.0) | 4:4.1.0-2 kdelibs5 (= 4:4.1.0) | 4:4.1.0-1 libc6 (= 2.7-1) | 2.7-13 libfreetype6(= 2.3.5) | 2.3.7-1 libgcc1 (= 1:4.1.1) | 1:4.3.1-2 libjpeg62 | 6b-14 libokularcore1(= 0.7) | 0.7-2 libpoppler-qt4-3 | 0.8.4-1.1 libqca2| 2.0.0-4 libqimageblitz4| 1:0.0.4-4 libqt4-dbus (= 4.4.0) | 4.4.0-4 libqt4-qt3support (= 4.4.0) | 4.4.0-4 libqt4-xml (= 4.4.0) | 4.4.0-4 libqtcore4 (= 4.4.0) | 4.4.0-4 libqtgui4 (= 4.4.0) | 4.4.0-4 libspectre1| 0.2.0.ds-1 libstdc++6 (= 4.1.1) | 4.3.1-2 zlib1g(= 1:1.1.4) | 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#495667: VEs started during the boot can't use network sometimes
Package: vzctl Hi, I'm running stock i386 lenny with current -openvz kernel from unstable. Everything runs fine, except the VEs that are started during the boot. Sometimes they can't use the network, as if ip_forwarding is not active, Which is not the case, I have the following in /etc/sysctl.conf: net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 I can fix this by restarting the VEs - after that the networking works ok. I believe this might be a race condition like starting OpenVZ before the ip_forwarding feature is set, because it only happens with VEs stared during the boot: 1) When I start VE manually (i.e. some time after the boot), networking works. 2) When I restart VE, networking works. 3) When I let the rc script to start VE, I have like 50% chance networking will not work. Bug#495233: debian-policy: README.source content should be more detailed
On Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 03:17:44PM -0300, Lucas Nussbaum wrote: On 15/08/08 at 11:01 -0700, Russ Allbery wrote: Giacomo Catenazzi [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Lucas Nussbaum wrote: First, section 4.14 should list things that one does not need to describe in debian/README.source. For example, the use of one of the standard patch systems (quilt, dpatch, simple-patchsys) doesn't need to be documented, since every NMUer should be able to work with them. I don't agree. This was one of the things that came up specifically in the original discussion that led to the README.source compromise. If nothing else, README.source tells people that yes, this is bog-standard quilt or dpatch, so they don't have to figure out which it is and they don't have to wonder whether there's something weird at work. I would like this file to continue to contain pointers to the standard documentation for quilt or dpatch if those patch systems are used. We allowed for a pointer specifically so that all you have to do is include a line or two of reference. For example, I use: | This package uses quilt to manage all modifications to the upstream | source. Changes are stored in the source package as diffs in | debian/patches and applied during the build. Please see: | | /usr/share/doc/quilt/README.source | | for more information on how to apply the patches, modify patches, or | remove a patch. quilt and dpatch could probably usefully recommend boilerplate text. Another example is build systems: cdbs is used by 20% of our packages, so I don't think that one need to document its use. I think the better way is do it similar to copyright: for common patch/build system we should include only a link to the relative document. Maybe on a common package (build essential or dpkg-dev) or on patch system package (but in this case we should push stronger the maintainer to include the relevant informations). Which is what Policy already says, and quilt, for example, provides such a document for README.source to link to. So I don't think Policy should be changed here. But that won't work if we want to include more info in README.source. What about moving to a machine-parseable format, such as: Patch-system: quilt Patch-system-doc: /usr/share/doc/quilt/README.source This does about the same as grepping the build-dep for quilt. Bug#492311: icedtea-gcjwebplugin should be moved to main ASAP
Hi, We are under freeze. icedtea-gcjwebplugin should be moved to main ASAP. contrib is not really official Debian. I see BTS log at http://bugs.debian.org/492311. The maintainer for icedtea-gcjwebplugin argued for this being contrib with wrong reasoning. I also see the maintainer seems to have change his mind by sending bts message pending. I just build this with package from main only by pbuilder. So I know it is main unless there is some other hidden issue not discussed on BTS. I see this being one of the best version of FREE JAVA with largest number for API. Keeping it in contrib does not serve our user. I also think changing control file just for this is acceptable to release team. (Am I wrong? Bug#480384: gnome-panel hangs when clicking calendar if evolution is setup with a calendar
Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.20.3-5 Followup-For: Bug #480384 Hi, I'm having a similar problem and I found out that (for me) it is related to my use of evolution. I have a Google calendar setup in evolution. If Evolution is started, the calendar applet works fine (and shows my calendar data) but if evolution is not started (but a calendar is configured as active) then clicking on the calendar causes the complete gnome-panel (including the status bar at the bottom of the screen) to be unresponsive. I found out that deactivating the calendar in evolution (e.g. Open Evolution - Select Calendar - Remove the mark before the active calendar) works around the problem. Bug#495677: RFP: heirloom-toolchest -- Old Unix-utilities modified for todays requirements
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: heirloom-toolchest * URL : http://heirloom.sourceforge.net/ * License : BSD and other Programming Lang: C Description : Old Unix-utilities modified for todays requirements The Heirloom Project provides traditional implementations of standard Unix utilities. In many cases, they have been derived from original Unix material released as Open Source by Caldera and Sun. Interfaces follow traditional practice; they remain generally compatible with System V, although extensions that have become common use over the course of time are sometimes provided. Most utilities are also included in a variant that aims at POSIX conformance. On the interior, technologies for the twenty-first century such as the UTF-8 character encoding or OpenType fonts are supported. As you can see from bugs #431231, #139861 and #388689, UTF-8-support of GNU coreutils suck snow out of Mt. Fuji and there is no fix in sight. Some Linux-distributors have created their own patches, but upstream maintainers do not accept them. In Heirloom Toolchest UTF-8-support is all fixed. As you can see from bug #196762, groff can not be upgraded to the latest version, because in Debian it has some Japanese support patch that is not yet available for the latest version of groff. I do not know about Unicode-support of groff, but at least in Heirloom Toolchest roff support UTF-8 and OpenType, too. Therefore, IMNSHO Heirloom Toolchest must be packaged for Debian ASAP. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (1100, 'testing'), (990, 'stable'), (500, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (101, 'testing'), (99, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) -- Juhapekka naula Tolvanen * http colon slash slash iki dot fi slash juhtolv Boku wa ongakuka dentaku katate ni. Bug#495676: hw-detect: hw-detect new device detection misbehaves with wlan* devices
Package: hw-detect Version: 1.65 Severity: important Hi! While testing a daily image on a Lenovo R61 with a manually updated 2.6.26 image, I was puzzled when I was asked Do you intend to use FireWire Ethernet? on a machine which has both wired and wireless LAN cards. 2.6.26 kernels re-introduced the old FireWire stack. So we are back having the eth1394 module available, and thus FireWire ethernet. That's why the following issue did not pop up before. After digging through the logs, I eventually found that every single card was listed as FireWire ethernet in /etc/network/devnames. Next step was figuring out why could make that happen. More tests later, I eventually found that this was due to the way hw-detect finds a new network interface after loading a module. The list of available interface is known by snapshot_devs() after sorting the content of the first column in /proc/net/dev, e.g. lo eth0. This list is kept while a new module is loaded, then snapshot_devs() is called again to get something like lo eth0 eth1. To compare those lists and get the new interfaces, compare_devs() is used. compare_devs() basically currently works by doing: echo ${devs#$olddevs} In the previous case, as ethX interfaces are always added at the end, both lists have the same start, and so compare_devs() nicely output eth1. Unfortunately, thanks to new Wi-Fi stacks, we now have interfaces that are not named ethX. On this laptop we get the following: compare_devs lo eth0 wlan0 wmaster0 lo eth0 eth1 wlan0 wmaster0 not inserted at the end! I see two possible fixes here: * Stop sorting devices in snapshot_devs() anymore. I don't see why the kernel would reorder the content of /proc/net/dev when new modules are inserted. From my tests, this nicely solved the issue. * Make compare_dev() able to detect the addition in the middle of the device list. For the record, modifying compare_devs to use the following did the trick: sed=$(echo $olddevs | sed -e 's#\([a-z0-9]\+\) *#s/\1 *//;#g') echo $devs | sed -e $sed I tried to dig the history of the repository in order to figure out why snapshot_dev() used sort in the first place, but I was not able to get any meaningful result. Do anyone have an idea? Otherwise, removing the sorting sounds like the best option to me. Cheers, -- Jérémy Bobbio.''`. Bug#299826: wrr not working on current kernels?
severity 299826 serious thanks Hi! I'm reusing this bug as well, since it wasn't closed the previous two times. The reason for reusing this bugreport, from the upstream homepage: 071203 release This release is for 2.6.24 and 2.6.23 (tested) but might work for 2.6.22 (untested). It has no new features; this release fixes masq support for 2.6.23. If you need a patch for 2.6.22 I recommend the 070717 release below. The reason I set severity to serious, again from the upstream homepage: The patch does not work for 2.6.25 or above due to a missing conversion from rtnetlink til netlink (thanks to Rune Kock for bug report and debugging). I'll look into this when I can find the time. Conclusion: neither the packaged nor the upstream patch will work on Lenny. Observation: since the problem hasn't been fixed for 9.5 months upstream, a fix in time for Lenny release is probably unlikely. I suggest removal while we wait for this feature to reach us via the upstream linux kernel developers which will help out with QA. -- Regards, Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#495498: xcb_lock.c:77: _XGetXCBBuffer: Assertion `((int) ((xcb_req) - (dpy-request)) = 0)' failed.
Carlo Wood wrote: Any progress yet? Things I can test? Nope, sorry. I probably won't have much to report for a while; day job interferes. I noticed that you are using threads in synergys. The assertion that we run into can be caused if multiple threads do calls to GUI calls (X, Xt). All such calls must be done from one thread. Are you doing X calls from more than one thread? I'm not entirely sure. If you look at the history of the package, the most recent upload was done to fix a problem in synergyc that was somewhat related, in that xcb seemed to trigger it. The problem there was that we were noticing events from watching the X socket. The problem is that X events could sneak through due to a race condition, and the client would appear to hang. For that problem, the client didn't do anything thread-unsafe with X calls, but it did detect events and handle them in separate threads. I suspect something similar may be happening in the server, but have no idea if that's causing this or some other problem. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#495682: loop-aes-utils: Diverts essential binaries without implementing some trivial and useful option
Package: loop-aes-utils Version: 2.13.1-3 Severity: serious Justification: Breaks other software Hi, diverting losetup without implementing losetup -f looks quite a serious bug to me. It'd be nice that you reply to #384059 some day, too. Both bugs might be merged at some point, but I think this particular point could be addressed without solving #384059 globally, hence a separate bugreport. About the severity, live-helper breaks for USB images when loop-aes-utils is installed. I'll try and push a workaround there, and eventually lower the severity if that workaround is merged. Bug#485465: retaining brightness state through power offs on Thinkpad r50e
My (mostly useless inconclusive) observations on retaining brightness state through power offs, with the poweroff(8) command with 2.6.26-1-686 stock kernel: Poweroff used in the dimmest state retains the dimmest state as seen at the next lilo prompt. However sometimes not. Sometimes one needs three to four Fn Ends there at the lilo prompt to get to dimmest state. At this (lilo prompt) point rebooting with ALT-CTRL-DEL retains the dimmest state. (However you will notice that ALT-CTRL-DEL spins down and back up one's disk. Since the machine had just been turned on and the fan was not yet busy cooling a hot machine, I was able to hear this fact.) Anyway, little of the above is something Debian can change. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#495630: ITP: libfaketime -- report faked system time to programs
(CC'ing upstream for both datefudge and libfaketime) This is in reference to my proposal to package libfaketime for debian, found here: http://bugs.debian.org/495630 On Tue 2008-08-19 03:27:47 -0400, Peter Palfrader wrote: How does this differ from datefudge? On Tue 2008-08-19 05:41:31 -0400, Guus Sliepen wrote: There is already another package in Debian that provides similar functionality: datefudge. Perhaps you can get both upstreams to merge there efforts? Ah, i'd missed datefudge. Thanks for pointing it out, Peter and Guus. Actually, datefudge will do what i need for my purposes, so i'm going to back off from this ITP for now. The packages are slightly different, though: libfaketime appears to be capable of intercepting stat() calls while datefudge is not. And libfaketime is capable of setting absolute times (i.e. making the wall clock appear completely stopped for the client). datefudge appears to use what libfaketime calls start at dates: [0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ datefudge '2001-01-01' sh -c 'date sleep 10 date' Mon Jan 1 00:00:00 EST 2001 Mon Jan 1 00:00:10 EST 2001 [0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ And can't stop the clock the way that libfaketime can: [0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ LD_PRELOAD=src/libfaketime/libfaketime-0.7/libfaketime.so.1 FAKETIME='2001-01-01 00:00:00' sh -c 'date sleep 10 date' Mon Jan 1 00:00:00 EST 2001 Mon Jan 1 00:00:00 EST 2001 [0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ (libfaketime is capable of *not* stopping the clock as well, of course) OTOH, datefudge has much more flexible time specification syntax, which is nice, and it already has the command-line utility that i was considering hacking together. Both tools seem to be GPL-2 or later, so i see no reason why upstream couldn't join forces if they wanted to. Wolfgang? Matthias? Do you guys have any preferences for how to proceed? Bug#495257: More info
Hi, I'm a packagekit and kpackagekit developer. (www.packagekit.org) i was going to contact dbus packgers people but i found a bug that has what i need. i'll try to explain why not restart Dbus: * Fist of all dbus should be treated like a kernel? sould stupid? but you can't (ok i know there are ways to do it) upgrade your kernel and don't do a restart. * gdm 2.22 or greater will kill you login session. * policykit a program that is getting wide used, creates a session every time you login on kdm or gdm, if you restart Dbus it will never come back. * and in our case we use dbus to have a very good design in security and transparency for the user and a developer application. how it works? well if you don't know packagekit has a wide range of backends so you will be able to manage software the same way (in the user poit of view) on ANY distro. Fedora 9 already uses it. ALL the comunication between packagekit and the user interface is made using DBUS. So if you restart DBUS the ui is not able to respond to the current request and the user got's confused. AND in the most common case doing a system update using packagekit ui will end up with a ui stuck and it never concludes the updates... If the user kills the updates ui, he will never be able again to install/remove ANY packages WHY? because polkit the program that gives him the right to do admin tasks was killed by a restart. Please don't think that only m$ should do restart, on m$98 if you hold the shift (not sure if this was the key) the os did not restart completely. if restarting is a m$ thing why should you restart a running program?? tell it to re read it's config file (i also think it's unecessary). So please consider not doing this restart anymore. you will be crashing too many things, it's like to unplug a pendrive while it's copying... the application don't know what to do and some of then could do nothing! Ah i remember more one problem: IF dbus is not able to start again due this update a kde user will not be able to use shortcuts, nor see popups messages... it all Depends on DBUS. and to finish my huge email :) Dbus was made for desktop users (freedesktop.org), so you can't have a power user to be able to start dbus by hand cause it failed to start... please add my email if this is not automatic, and please don't see this like an angry or ofence email. It's just that there are a bounch of projects that rely on Dbus and doing so is breaking everything. cheers, Daniel. Novos endereços, o Yahoo! que você conhece. Ok, I made some progress myself. I read a lot of pages that Google returns for this assertion and it seemed to point to libxcb; not that that library contains a bug, but because it is related and because it was made more strict. Anyways, I joined there IRC channel and got some help from Julien Danjou (jd_) who suggested to add XSynchronize(display, 1) before the line '// verify the availability of the XTest extension' in lib/platform/CXWindowsScreen.cpp (around line 847). The result would be that things go wrong at the moment of the bad call, and not later giving me different stack traces all the time. However, the result isn't an assertion anymore. It is a dead lock. And that is pretty logical if you think about it: this bug is clearly a race condition. It turns out that indeed two different threads are calling XSync at the same time. I see the following two backtraces: (gdb) thread 3 [Switching to thread 3 (Thread 0x41ebc950 (LWP 24059))]#0 0x7f8000120d29 in pthread_cond_wait@@GLIBC_2.3.2 () from /lib/libpthread.so.0 (gdb) bt #0 0x7f8000120d29 in pthread_cond_wait@@GLIBC_2.3.2 () from /lib/libpthread.so.0 #1 0x7f7fff7ad8bb in _xcb_lock_io () from /usr/lib/libxcb.so.1 #2 0x7f7fff9c0a09 in xcb_xlib_lock () from /usr/lib/libxcb-xlib.so.0 #3 0x7f8000b3b59a in condition_wait (dpy=0x27103a0, cv=0x2770fb8) at ../../src/xcb_io.c:76 #4 0x7f8000b3b8c4 in process_responses (dpy=0x27103a0, wait_for_first_event=0, current_error=0x41ebaa60, current_request=7465) at ../../src/xcb_io.c:151 #5 0x7f8000b3c141 in _XReply (dpy=0x27103a0, rep=0x41ebaab0, extra=0, discard=1) at ../../src/xcb_io.c:370 #6 0x7f8000b2a7f8 in XSync (dpy=0x27103a0, discard=0) at ../../src/Sync.c:48 #7 0x7f8000b2a8da in _XSyncFunction (dpy=0x2712234) at ../../src/Synchro.c:37 #8 0x7f8000b26d46 in XSendEvent (dpy=0x27103a0, w=18874372, propagate=0, event_mask=0, event=0x2760320) at ../../src/SendEvent.c:82 #9 0x00464633 in CXWindowsEventQueueBuffer::flush (this=0x272ec10) at ../../../synergy/lib/platform/CXWindowsEventQueueBuffer.cpp:247 #10 0x004647c6 in CXWindowsEventQueueBuffer::addEvent (this=0x272ec10, dataID=5) at ../../../synergy/lib/platform/CXWindowsEventQueueBuffer.cpp:210 #11 0x0049a531 in CEventQueue::addEvent (this=0x7fff09a7a8b0, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) at ../../../synergy/lib/base/CEventQueue.cpp:221 #12 0x00492cb2 in CTCPSocket::sendEvent (this=0x276aea0, type=38) at ../../../synergy/lib/net/CTCPSocket.cpp:358 #13 0x004930c7 in CTCPSocket::serviceConnected (this=0x276aea0, job=0x276cff0, read=false, write=true, error=false) at ../../../synergy/lib/net/CTCPSocket.cpp:465 #14 0x0049549d in TSocketMultiplexerMethodJobCTCPSocket::run (this=0x276cff0, read=false, write=true, error=false) at ../../../synergy/lib/net/TSocketMultiplexerMethodJob.h:79 #15 0x0048d1e1 in CSocketMultiplexer::serviceThread (this=0x7fff09a7a9f0) at ../../../synergy/lib/net/CSocketMultiplexer.cpp:228 #16 0x0048ef2d in TMethodJobCSocketMultiplexer::run (this=0x2711f70) at ../../../synergy/lib/base/TMethodJob.h:63 #17 0x00498b57 in CThread::threadFunc (vjob=0x2711f70) at ../../../synergy/lib/mt/CThread.cpp:152 ... while thread 1 is: (gdb) bt #0 0x7f8000123394 in __lll_lock_wait () from /lib/libpthread.so.0 #1 0x7f8000121270 in pthread_cond_broadcast@@GLIBC_2.3.2 () from /lib/libpthread.so.0 #2 0x7f7fff9c0ac2 in xcb_xlib_unlock () from /usr/lib/libxcb-xlib.so.0 #3 0x7f8000b3b550 in condition_wait (dpy=0x27103a0, cv=0x2770fb8) at ../../src/xcb_io.c:74 #4 0x7f8000b3b8c4 in process_responses (dpy=0x27103a0, wait_for_first_event=0, current_error=0x7fff09a7a380, current_request=7466) at ../../src/xcb_io.c:151 #5 0x7f8000b3c141 in _XReply (dpy=0x27103a0, rep=0x7fff09a7a3d0, extra=0, discard=1) at ../../src/xcb_io.c:370 #6 0x7f8000b2a7f8 in XSync (dpy=0x27103a0, discard=0) at ../../src/Sync.c:48 #7 0x7f8000b2a8da in _XSyncFunction (dpy=0x2712230) at ../../src/Synchro.c:37 #8 0x7f8000b21967 in XQueryPointer (dpy=0x27103a0, w=315, root=0x7fff09a7a4e8, child=0x7fff09a7a4e0, root_x=0x7fff09a7a4dc, root_y=0x7fff09a7a4d8, win_x=0x7fff09a7a4d4, win_y=0x7fff09a7a4d0, mask=0x7fff09a7a4cc) at ../../src/QuPntr.c:64 #9 0x0046771d in CXWindowsKeyState::pollActiveModifiers (this=0x2729720) at ../../../synergy/lib/platform/CXWindowsKeyState.cpp:141 #10 0x00484a3b in CPlatformScreen::pollActiveModifiers (this=0x2710190) at ../../../synergy/lib/synergy/CPlatformScreen.cpp:93 #11 0x004880b6 in CScreen::pollActiveModifiers (this=0x2711ee0) at ../../../synergy/lib/synergy/CScreen.cpp:397 #12 0x00432b01 in CPrimaryClient::getToggleMask (this=0x272ee00) at ../../../synergy/lib/server/CPrimaryClient.cpp:89 #13 0x00437c3c in CServer::switchScreen (this=0x272f860, dst=0x272ee00, x=3355, y=672, forScreensaver=false) at
Bug#299826: wrr not working on current kernels?
severity 299826 important thanks On Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 06:32:24PM +0200, Andreas Henriksson wrote: This release is for 2.6.24 and 2.6.23 (tested) but might work for 2.6.22 (untested). It has no new features; this release fixes masq support for 2.6.23. If you need a patch for 2.6.22 I recommend the 070717 release below. I agree to reuse/extend this bugreport for lack of newer updates too. Well - that does not make the bug serious. Adjusting severity based on descriptions at http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities Observation: since the problem hasn't been fixed for 9.5 months upstream, a fix in time for Lenny release is probably unlikely. I suggest removal while we wait for this feature to reach us via the upstream linux kernel developers which will help out with QA. I disagree - it does no harm to provide this patch package for the little minority willing to use older kernels. - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist og Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#495630: ITP: libfaketime -- report faked system time to programs
Hi, Daniel Kahn Gillmor: libfaketime appears to be capable of intercepting stat() calls while datefudge is not. That's been intentional. (One of the uses of datefudge was to test tools like make, when they run on a file system whose times are skewed.) And libfaketime is capable of setting absolute times (i.e. making the wall clock appear completely stopped for the client). That's ugly. ;-) [Datefudge] can't stop the clock the way that libfaketime can: There are a few programs out there which misbehave (i.e. hang) if you do that, so I saw no reason to implement this ... Both tools seem to be GPL-2 or later, so i see no reason why upstream couldn't join forces if they wanted to. Wolfgang? Matthias? Do you guys have any preferences for how to proceed? What do you think of Guus' suggestion? If you want to enhance my datefudge code with whatever features libfaketime has that I haven't, be my guest. -- Matthias Urlichs | {M:U} IT Design @ m-u-it.de | [EMAIL PROTECTED] Disclaimer: The quote was selected randomly. Also, this is only 26 MB for gnucash, but other packages had/have the same problem, so that it could end up in hundreds of MBs. This is purely hypothetical so far. Can you give me a specific usage case, of a user who is using the gnome desktop, with its huge size, for which that extra storage is the problem? I do not use the GNOME desktop (gnucash doesn't need it). GTK-related libraries take space, but they are needed for several applications, and once everything absolutely necessary has been installed, there remains little space for less important things, such as HBCI support. When you say other packages it sounds as if you are on a crusade to make Debian support very old hardware just as if it were brand new. I'm sure you can understand that this is a low priority. Yes, but I hope it will be fixed some time in the future. Also handhelds such as Nokia Internet Tablets (more or less based on Debian, but it is also possible to install a real Debian system) are not old hardware, and gnucash is in the wishlist: http://maemo.org/community/wiki/ApplicationCatalogWishlist/#17f60264602dea7fb0472b9cc0f2cb14 Gnucash Either a port of the full Gnucash application, or a stripped-down version suitable for entering checks/credit card transactions/etc. while out, with the ability to export the results to the full Gnucash app at home. Hi Frank On Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 04:58:43PM +0200, Frank Bauer wrote: Package: vzctl Hi, I'm running stock i386 lenny with current -openvz kernel from unstable. Everything runs fine, except the VEs that are started during the boot. Sometimes they can't use the network, as if ip_forwarding is not active, Which is not the case, I have the following in /etc/sysctl.conf: net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 Can you check if this is active as well after the restart? I can fix this by restarting the VEs - after that the networking works ok. I believe this might be a race condition like starting OpenVZ before the ip_forwarding feature is set, because it only happens with VEs stared during the boot: I do not think so, as it should affect others as well, but it could of course be the case. If it is a race condition then it is likely to be a problem in the network script. The reason is that there is a pre-condition for vzctl start. # required-start: $network $remote_fs $local_fs sshd # required-stop: Can you verify this by adding a long sleep in the beginning of the vzctl init script? 1) When I start VE manually (i.e. some time after the boot), networking works. 2) When I restart VE, networking works. 3) When I let the rc script to start VE, I have like 50% chance networking will not work. No, a build-dependency such as gnome-pkg-tools or ruby-pkg-tools could depend on quilt itself. For example, ruby-pkg-tools depends on cdbs, so each package doesn't depend on cdbs directly. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#467043: New kvm causes Windows activation to trigger on activated VM - now hardware ids?
Hi I think Jan is right that this can only really be a wishlist bug as it's merely a request for a new feature. The program isn't currently behaving in any manner that wasn't originally intended. I'm no expert on Windows, but doesn't Microsoft apply some limitations on product activation that could make it problematic if it's activated too often? It seems to me that the scheme would be worthless without such limits. If this is true, then this issue might be more serious than it appears on the surface when using modern versions of Windows inside KVM and other PC emulators Regards, Orion -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#495630: ITP: libfaketime -- report faked system time to programs
Daniel, Matthias, admittedly I haven't been aware of datefudge so far; seems to me like both mini-tools have been developed independent of each other since around 2003. From looking at datefudge 1.14 (is that the most recent version?), I'd claim that libfaketime currently provides a superset of the functionality, but as you already wrote, datefudge will do for many purposes. Actually, if you could point out in more detail how you'd like libfaketime to be enhanced, e.g. how the time specification syntax could be improved from your perspective, I'm certainly interested in working on that. I didn't find libfaketime's syntax so different from your datefudge example call, but maybe I'm missing something here. On the other hand, this means that I would stick to libfaketime as my code base, and I think that matches Matthias' preferences as well. It certainly shouldn't hurt to have more than one tool to choose from (of course, that's my personal opinion, and might not match Debian's package policies). Bug#470307: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the lurker package
Dear maintainer of lurker and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the lurker Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs de es fi fr ja pt ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: es ja If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the lurker package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Monday, August 25, 2008. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Thursday, July 24, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Bug#495690: kvm: Screen refresh rate seems very slow in comparison to qemu
Package: kvm Version: 72+dfsg-1 Severity: normal Hi I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug or not, but I've been unable to find any other information about it and therefore I thought it would be better to report it. The problem revolves around the screen update rate on KVM. It appears extremely slow in comparison to QEMU, even without any acceleration module. This seems a bit odd as KVM is based on QEMU to a significant degree anyway. Given the additional performance advantages provided by the use of hardware virtualisation and KVM, I can only imagine that a bug or some missing implementation code is having this effect. The problem can be easily demonstrated. Downloading the small base FreeDOS image and booting from the CD displays an initial splash screen. The rendering of it is vastly quicker on QEMU and is sluggish on KVM. The problem seems to persist for other programs too. Bug#495580: mdadm: 4 disk raid10 with 1 active and 3 spare possible
Now that I think more about this, I think this is more wishlist then a bug. Though I don't have a better bug title yet in mind. So please feel free to change this. Am Dienstag, den 19.08.2008, 19:21 +0200 schrieb martin f krafft: Unless you waited for /dev/sdc1 to resync, removing /dev/sdd1 will basically destroy the array. Not much one can do about that. I looked now again at the FAQ, question 18 looks calculatable. I haven't bothered to look at the code, I don't understand yet that much C and so I need a while to get into it. But you have the numbers `mdadm -Q --detail' prints probable anyway already. If one device is removed the superblock is changed, so it could print out a warning/error that it's now broken. `mdadm -Q --detail' is telling me `clean, degraded' with one active disk and 3 spare. It could say `broken'. Anyway, I think that's the problem: when you (re-)add a disk to an array, it becomes a spare until it synchronised. If you wait for the synchronisation between each add/remove step, you should never see more than 1 spare. Ah, I assumed that a spare is always only used if one disk fails. Would it be possible to make a `mdadm --add-this-disk-as-active-instead-of-spare' ? or is this actually a good or bad idea? I have now added another virtual disk /dev/sdg to the VM. Recreated the raid10 Then I set faulty and removed sdc1 and added sdg1 Still 1 is removed and 2 spare disks and no resyncing, so I think this idea isn't that bad. fz-vm:~# mdadm -Q --detail /dev/md0 /dev/md0: Version : 00.90 Creation Time : Tue Aug 19 19:52:16 2008 Raid Level : raid10 Array Size : 16771584 (15.99 GiB 17.17 GB) Used Dev Size : 8385792 (8.00 GiB 8.59 GB) Raid Devices : 4 Total Devices : 5 Preferred Minor : 0 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Update Time : Tue Aug 19 20:22:52 2008 State : active, degraded Active Devices : 3 Working Devices : 5 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 2 Layout : near=2, far=1 Chunk Size : 64K UUID : b3d68384:06515443:89ccbef7:ff5abfb0 (local to host fz-vm) Events : 0.21 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 0 000 removed 1 8 491 active sync /dev/sdd1 2 8 652 active sync /dev/sde1 3 8 813 active sync /dev/sdf1 4 8 33- spare /dev/sdc1 5 8 97- spare /dev/sdg1 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
