While it is nice that totem prevent the screensave to launch when
playing a movie,
it would be great if it wouldn't do so for audio only files...

 It needs to be disabled.

Bug#523617: fai-doc: sample grub postinst does not work on AMD64 with lvm root (possibly others)

2009-04-11 Thread James Richardson
Package: fai-doc
Version: 3.2.17
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I have been trying to understand and learn fai. I have been using the
simple example set in my configurations. It seems that the grub postint
does not work with my setup out of the box. I will include a patch.

My set up is as follows:
My hardware is AMD64, I have two 100G ide drives at /dev/hda and
/dev/hdc. I setup md0 as /dev/hd[ac]1 and md1 as /dev/hd[ac]2. /dev/md0
is formatted as ext2 for /boot and /dev/md1 is used for lvm. Here is the
disk_config file:

#
# type mountpoint size fs type mount options misc options

disk_config disk1 disklabel:msdos
primary - 100 - -
primary - 0-100% - -

disk_config disk2 disklabel:msdos
primary - 100 - -
primary - 0-100% - -

disk_config raid
raid1 /boot hda1,hdc1 ext2 rw
raid1 - hda2,hdc2 - -

disk_config lvm
vg vg00 md1
vg00-root / 512 ext3 rw
vg00-usr /usr 2048 ext3 rw
vg00-var /var 2048 ext3 rw
vg00-home /home 2048 ext3 rw
vg00-swap swap 2048 swap rw

Anyway, at the end of the install grub-install errors out with a
message... I lost it. It complained something about missing
/boot/grub/device.map missing or some such thing. I will enclose the
changes I made to get it working. I can say it works in this case and
the case of a single disk inside virtual box with a similar config (boot
on /hda1 and lvm on /dev/dha2).

Basicaly the patch causes grub-install to be run chroot into the just
installed system and changed $BOOT_DEVICE to $BOOT_PARTITION.
$BOOT_DEVICE ended being /dev/mapper/vg00-root which didn't really exist
in the chroot environment, presumably because udev does not run.
$BOOT_PARTITION was /dev/hda1. I don't know if these changes will work
in general or not.

Bug#520834: dh_auto_{build,install,clean} should support different python versions

 compatability when I change dh_auto_*.)

I just took a look at it and packages which only build-depend on python
or python-dev and not python-all{,-dev} will break with this patch.

So the solution is:
  if Build-Depends contains python-all (or python-all-dev):
= Build using all requested versions (pyversions -r)
  else:
= Build using the current version (pyversions -d)

Could this be implemented?

Bug#523622: to many dependencies on hal package

2009-04-11 Thread Jelle de Jong
Package: hal
Version: 0.5.12~git20090406.46dc48-1
Severity: normal

consolekit hal hal-info libck-connector0 libpolkit-dbus2 libpolkit-grant2
libpolkit2 pm-utils policykit powermgmt-base

Those are all dependencies that need to be installed for hal, I have no need
for theme and the extra packages make my
support systems break and create unwanted extra not needed daemons.

I only need hal to make it possible for the user to mount usb disk devices.

Would it be possible to make recommended packages or hal-extra or
hal-consolekit hal-powermgmt

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Jelle de Jong

Bug#523199: xautomation: xte str f...@bar = BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)

2009-04-11 Thread Marco Steinacher

Hi again,

I have rethought this matter and I have to revise the statements I've
made earlier. There are two different issues:

1) The implementation of the key-modifiers in load_keycodes() and
send_string() (which I have introduced originally...) is wrong.
Characters which require the use of the group modifier (AltGr) don't
work in the current version of xte. This is probably the problem the bug
reporter is experiencing.

2) Characters which can only be typed using the compose (Multi_key) are
currently not supported. Implementing this feature is not trivial. It
would require to look up the key combination somewhere (e.g. in
/usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose). As mentioned earlier, using
the Multi_key explicitly is a workaround which should work in most
cases. In any case, there should be printed a proper warning/error when
such characters are encountered.

The attached patch addresses these issues and replaces the patch I have
submitted two days ago. I suggest to apply the patch to the upstream
version, as it is not Debian specific. The patch contains the following
changes:

1) All characters that can be typed using a group modifier (Mode_switch
or ISO_Level3_Shift [AltGr]) and/or the Shift key are supported now.
E.g. AltGr+2 = @ or AltGr+Shift+1 = ¡ with a Swiss German keyboard.

2) The following warning is displayed, when an unsupported character is
encountered (this prevents the reported 'BadValue' Xlib error):

Character '%ls' is currently not supported. Using key 'Multi_key'
  could be a workaround.

3) The limitation regarding composed characters is now mentioned in the
manpage of xte and an example of a workaround is given:

  BUGS

Special characters, which can only be typed using the compose key
(Multi_key), are currently not supported and can't be used in the
argument of the str command. A workaround is to split the string
in two parts and insert 'key Multi_key' in between. For example,
  the command sequence

str na
key Multi_key
str ive

  will print 'naïve'.

Cheers,
Marco

Bug#523625: fai-server: fai-mirror does not honor -C command line option

2009-04-11 Thread James Richardson
Package: fai-server
Version: 3.2.17
Severity: normal

fai-mirror does not honor the -C command line option. It does however
honor the $FAI_ETC_DIR environment variable. The patch fixes this
behavior. The patch will cause the -C command line option to supercede
$FAI_ETC_DIR.

the istanbul package for quite some time.
We are tracking their status in the MIA team and would like to ask you

 that part of the file.

As rafl is aware of this too, I'll remove him in the next istanbul

Bug#503261: mkvtoolnix: New upstream version (2.6.0)

2009-04-11 Thread Benjamin Drung
Hi,

I have made these changes to the package:

* debian/mkvtoolnix-gui.desktop:
  - Remove deprecated value Application from Categories.
  - Remove deprecated Encoding key.
  - Remove extension from icon file name.
* debian/control: Break and sort Build-Depends entry.
* Switch to debhelper from deprecated version 4 to 7 to make lintian
  happy:
  - debian/control: Bump Build-Depends version of debhelper to 7.
  - debian/compat: Bump to 7.
  - debian/rules:
- Replace dh_clean -k by dh_prep.
- *-stamp files are now removed by dh_clean.
* Add .patch suffix to patch files.
* debian/rules: Remove automatically generated hidden directories and
  Makefiles.

You can find the updated package on mentors.debian.net. Attached the
debdiff for the changes to the previous package on mentors.debian.net. I
have moved Non-maintainer upload. to the top of the changelog entry to
make lintian happy. When we have to change the debhelper version (v4 is
deprecated) then we can switch directly to version 7.

Cheers,
Benjamin

Hash: SHA1

Hello,

in /usr/share/doc/tspc/README.debian I read the following:

When configured as router, tspc used to generate an own radvd.conf
config file and to restart radvd with this configfile.
This is bad when the user already specified a radvd configuration.

Therefor, radvd handling in Debian's tspc is disabled.
Please create your own router advertisement configuration in /etc/radvd.conf
 and everything is fine :)

 --
 Martin Waitz

so please provide a howto to renable this feature. Because without
automatic prefix forwarding into radvd it does not work. (Because each
second day the manually written configuration is wrong.)

Greetings

I have an ASUS M3A78 Pro motherboard with built-in Radeon 3200 HD
(RS780 GPU) which I am hoping to use for video playback.

At present I a using the VGA output and have found that the default
acceleration takes the majority of the CPU cycles, and that using
either exa or xaa acceleration results in unstable video output using
gxine and loss of audio/video synchronisation in mplayer.

I could probably achieve better results with an older Radeon graphics
card but such cards are no longer available new.

I am happy to compile and test new versions of the radeonhd code.

Does the ati/radeon driver work fine on this board?

I think there is nothing special about xterm, any would do the trick I
guess. If you find some clever way to change the command in the menu file:

?package(easyspice):needs=X11 \
section=Applications/Science/Electronics \
title=easy_spice \
command=/usr/bin/xterm -iconic -n $(HOME)
easy_spice_log -e /usr/bin/easy_spice

then I am happy to change this.

Hello,

hmm I don't think -iconic and -n is supported by most x-terminal
applications, which of course is unfortunate... At least not
xfce4-terminal and konsole. It would be better if they all supported
standard X options like those.

Is there a particular reason for easy_spice to be started from a
terminal, instead of just having command=/usr/bin/easy_spice ? I have
no experience with easy_spice so I don't know this. I was just about to
check it out :-) But is does look like it has good opportunities for
viewing log-info and spice output within the graphical frontend itself?

Bug#523627: iptables -S generates deprecated command lines

2009-04-11 Thread sacrificial-spam-address
Package: iptables
Version: 1.4.3.1-1

Using an iptables rule like -d ! my.sub.net/24 generates a warning:
Using intrapositioned negation (`--option ! this`) is deprecated in favor of
extrapositioned (`! --option this`).

However, iptables -S produces exactly that form, leading to a lot of
warnings when dumping/reloading iptables rules.

It would be nice if iptables agreed with itself on the preferred format. :-)

hitting enter. Not reproducible but one of the annoyances that makes

Package: www.debian.org
Severity: important

Hello,

a few days ago it still worked... and I think it's an important resource
for up-to-date information, therefore I tagged this bug as important.

Anyway, the problem:

1. Go to www.debian.org
2. Click on Developer's Corner
3. Click on Developer's Reference to arrive at this page:
   http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/

Click on any of the links in this table of contents to find that every
one of them returns a 404 Page Not Found error.

Kind regards,

Bug#523616: [kshutdown] Could you provide a KDE 4 version?

Yes ! I delayed this package until kde4 reaches a usable state.

As a nice coincidence, I just switched to kde4 today, and found it is now much
better than the last time I looked at it !

Hence, I will try to prepare a package for the kde4 version of kshutdown. In

Bug#523631: thunar: Not always possible to Open Terminal Here

2009-04-11 Thread Torquil Macdonald Sørensen
Package: thunar
Version: 0.9.0-10
Severity: normal

If the number of files in a directory is enough to cover the available
vertical space, I am not able to get the correct context menu with the
Open Terminal Here option. Instead I get the context menu that is
appropriate for single file operations, which does not contain this
option.

I think that it should not be neccesary to change to Icon View and back in
order to use the Open Terminal Here function of Thunar. I think there are
other context menu options that are also difficult to get access to in
the same way (at least Paste and Create Folder)

Bug#523630: xserver-xorg: decription says it is removeable, which is wrong

2009-04-11 Thread Bernhard R. Link
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+18

The description of the xserver-xorg package says:
It does not provide the actual server itself, but removing it is
strongly discouraged.

But since xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-10 that depends on xserver-xorg, so
removing it removes the whole server.

Another solution would be to make the description true again, by
removing the dependency in xserver-xorg-core and moving the /etc/X11/X
symlink handling code to xserver-xorg-core. (according to the changelog,
that was the reason why xserver-xorg-core started to depend on this.
And the symlink handling code seems to only be creating it if it does
not yet exists and nothing else, so moving that should be trivial).
Only downsize in this could be that this might cause something to think
xserver-xorg can be autoremoved, against which a Recommend: in
xserver-xorg-core for a release or two should help.

Hochachtungsvoll,
Bernhard R. Link

P.S: if only changing the description, the xserver-xorg.postinst could
also need some documentation updates:

| # register this package as a (potential) handler of the X server symlink and
| # X.Org X server configuration file
| for ROSTER in $SERVER_SYMLINK_ROSTER $XORGCONFIG_ROSTER; do
| if ! fgrep -qsx $THIS_PACKAGE $ROSTER; then
| echo $THIS_PACKAGE $ROSTER
| fi
| done

I think here SERVER_SYMLINK_ROSTER can just be removed. It is no longer used,
and the file is even deleted on upgrading from older versions (so another
package using that file can also be no reason to keep it).

| # only mess with the server symlink file if it is a symbolic link or does
| # not exist. otherwise, assume that's the way the user wants it.
| if ! [ -e $SERVER_SYMLINK ]; then
| ln -s $THIS_SERVER $SERVER_SYMLINK
| # recover from an old bug
| elif [ `readlink $SERVER_SYMLINK` = /bin/true ]; then
| rm -f $SERVER_SYMLINK
| ln -s $THIS_SERVER $SERVER_SYMLINK
| fi

The commend says only mess with the server symlink file if it is a symbolic
link or does
not exist. but actually, it is only about if it does not exist...

| if [ -n $UPGRADE ] dpkg --compare-versions $2 le 1:7.3+5; then
| # Clean up our old crap

logging in, I discovered that my arrow keys, home, end, prior, next,
  print, pause, alt_r, control_r, kp_enter, KP_Divide, Super_r,
multi_key had been randomly rearranged, and thus hitting up arrow
  tried to print the screen.

There was an extensive session with xev, xbindkeys -mk, and
xmodmap before I could start using the machine, and I suspect most
users would not have the knowledge to do what I did.

Oh, and Option AllowEmptyInput false gave me multiple
input devices, I could not login as user sssrrriiivvvaaassstttaaa.
(each keypress resulted in three characters)

The evdev driver, which is used by default with input-hotplug, indeed
uses a different set of keycodes than the traditional kbd driver. I'm
not sure there's a way to make that transition not painful for people
using xbindkeys/xmodmap and assuming the previous set of keycodes... :(

Fair enough. I understand how the transition is problematic,
but perhaps something like this could be put into a NEWS.Debian file? I
might have planned better had I been aware of the keycode issue.

I am using a new fangled keyboard, though from a popular
manufacturer (Logitech) which is apparently no in the database, and the
keycodes of different keyboards differ; in the long term, I should get
this keyboard autodetected; this is evidently *NOT* AT Translated Set 2
keyboard, whatever that generic set is.

The thing is, I seem to have lost some keys. First, the old
 keycodes:
--8---cut here---start-8---
! Logitech Comfort Cordless Duo
keycode 144 = XF86AudioPrev
keycode 151 = XF86Launch1
keycode 153 = XF86AudioNext
keycode 159 = XF86Launch0
keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute
keycode 161 = XF86Calculator
keycode 162 = XF86AudioPlay XF86AudioPause
keycode 164 = XF86AudioStop
keycode 171 = XF86Launch2
keycode 172 = XF86Launch3
keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume
keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
keycode 223 = XF86Sleep
--8---cut here---end---8---

And now the new ones:
--8---cut here---start-8---
keycode 104 = KP_Enter
keycode 105 = Control_R
keycode 106 = KP_Divide XF86_Ungrab
keycode 107 = Print Sys_Req
keycode 108 = Alt_R Meta_R
keycode 110 = Home
keycode 111 = Up
keycode 112 = Prior
keycode 113 = Left
keycode 114 = Right NoSymbol Right NoSymbol Right
keycode 115 = End
keycode 116 = Down
keycode 117 = Next
keycode 127 = Pause Break Pause Break Pause Break
keycode 134 = Super_R NoSymbol Super_R NoSymbol Super_R
keycode 135 = Multi_key Multi_key Multi_key Multi_key Multi_key Multi_key

keycode 174 = XF86AudioStop
keycode 179 = XF86Launch1 NoSymbol XF86Launch1 NoSymbol XF86Launch1
--8---cut here---end---8---

You note that I have lost the volume control keys with the new
driver. How does one get that back? (I might begin to hate HAL)

Bug#523634: update-manager: Could allow refreshing the changelog

2009-04-11 Thread Luís Picciochi Oliveira
Package: update-manager
Version: 0.68.debian-7
Severity: wishlist

When a package is selected on the update manager, the list of changes
appears on the lowest part of the window. However, if there is a
communication error or the network is unavailable for some reason, all
that appears is a message saying:
The list of changes is not available yet.
Please try again later.

That message then appears every time the same package is selected again
and the only way to fetch the changelog again is by closing and
reopening the Update Manager.

It would be nice if there was a refresh capability. I'd suggest having a
button for that purpose, a right-click menu entry or allowing F5 to
refresh the page (those were the first things I intuitively looked for).

Thanks,
Luís Picciochi

Bug#523635: segfault instantly kills gnome-power-manager

2009-04-11 Thread Teis Dreijer

Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.22.1-4
Severity: important

dmesg when logging in using gdm:
[ 64.154866] gnome-power-man[3621]: segfault at 0 ip 004117ea
sp 7fffb4916b10 error 4 in gnome-power-manager[40+49000]

exact same line (with different pid) occurs when manually issueing
gnome-power-manager

This is the case with both the custom kernel (vanilla linus tree
compiled after using make oldconfig) and the stock lenny amd64 kernel.

Only one version of gnome-power-manager have ever been installed and I
suspect booting with the new kernel might have broken something, but I
am not positive.

Bug#523636: xserver-xorg: after upgrade cannot open any window

2009-04-11 Thread Felix Koop
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.4+1
Severity: important

After upgrade to sid, I can still log into X on my system, but
I am unable to open any window for whatever program I try.
I get the starting terminal message on the lower line of my
screen (in gnome), but when it goes away instead of the window I
have nothing. Even the icon to log out does not open the usual
window, but instead seems to restart my gnome-session.

I have no idea if this is X-related or gnome related and I don't
find any error message anywhere I looked. Please help.

Package: virt-manager
Version: 0.7.0-1

Re-creating a previously deleted guest basically succeeds but
shows up an error message. It is reproducable by following:

It works, but the following error gets displayed:

Bug#523638: RM: wmi -- ROM,NPOASR; will be integrated in Samba4; Licensing issues

2009-04-11 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

there're two reasons why wmi should be removed:

- Jelmer is integrating parts of the code into Samba 4 (upstream)
  where possible.

- The wmi upstream is still stuck to an insanely old version of Samba4,
as they want to stick to GPLv2 _only_ with their licensing and they
don't make any progress in moving to GPLv3, which is used by Samba4 now.
So in fact they're forking Samba4 - which is nothing I want to support.

Thanks,

Bernd

Bug#481061: python-apt: Rename API methods to conform with PEP 8

Please rename the API methods of python-apt to conform with PEP 8

 * 'apt.package.Package.markKeep' is a method, so should be named
   'apt.package.Package.mark_keep'

 * 'apt.package.Dependency.candidateInstalledSize' is an attribute, so
   should be named 'apt.package.Dependency.candidate_installed_size'

I'm happy to create patches to address this bug if that would be
 useful.

I am attaching the current state of a apt.deprecation module, which will
be used for this. This can be used for apt.** and aptsources.*, but not
for apt_pkg and apt_inst. As you can see, parts are written by you.

For apt_pkg and apt_inst, I am not sure how to do this. Being written in C++,
it may be to hard to warn about every deprecated method and attribute.

Therefore, I suggest that we just warn on using the top-level functions like
GetCache() and not every where else.

I'm currently working on exporting the classes in apt_pkg, and making them
instanciable. Therefore, the way to create e.g. a cache object in 0.8.0 (or
whatever it will be named) would be apt_pkg.Cache() instead of
apt_pkg.GetCache().

The attributes available on those classes will be exported as GetSet properties,
just without a setter. The methods will be exported the standard way, too, which
leads to much more readable classes.

Every class, attribute, method, function will be documented with 1 short sentence
in the extension itself, and completely documented in doc/source/apt_pkg.rst
(which has to be created).

By looking at the sources i found that it needed a usb.ids file shipped in the

At present I a using the VGA output and have found that the default
acceleration takes the majority of the CPU cycles, and that using
either exa or xaa acceleration results in unstable video output using

gxine and loss of audio/video synchronisation in mplayer.

I could probably achieve better results with an older Radeon graphics
card but such cards are no longer available new.

I am happy to compile and test new versions of the radeonhd code.

Does the ati/radeon driver work fine on this board?

Brice

Yes, xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.2-1 works but with no acceleration
available and the same high CPU consumption when viewing videos.

Bug#523642: overrides CFLAGS too agressively

2009-04-11 Thread Robert Millan
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.52
Severity: important
Tags: patch

CFLAGS are overriden too agressively. Some packages have very specific
requirements when it comes to CFLAGS, and its upstream Makefiles will
know better. If CFLAGS is important for them, they can do things like:

  # we want -foo and nothing else!
  CFLAGS := -foo

or

  # we absolutely need -foo, but other flags could be fine
  CFLAGS += -foo

or

  # -foo is nice, but maybe the user has another idea in mind
  CFLAGS ?= -foo

Passing CFLAGS as argument makes it cumbersome to override, and removes
this flexibility (either we override or we don't). I think it's much
better to pass those as environment variables.

Bug#471297: meld: pyton error after 'svn move'

2009-04-11 Thread Vincent Legoll
I committed a fix for the crash in meld svn trunk revision 1332,
but that will only fix the backtrace, you'll still get the Patch failed
error dialog. This is better but not the full, more involved fix, of
only diffing modified files.

That will be fixed by another patch, still to be developped.

A release of meld is being prepared, so that bug should be able
to get closed soon.

Hi,

For a while now, I've seen a problem with several programs that are
crashing with policykit-related errors. For example:

polkit-gnome-authorization
[WARN 19548] polkit-error.c:143:polkit_error_get_error_message(): error
!= NULL
Not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

** (polkit-gnome-authorization:19548): WARNING **: Failed to initialize
PolicyKit context: (null)
[WARN 19548] polkit-error.c:156:polkit_error_free(): error != NULL
Not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

When I first login, several of these programs work fine, but after a
while they start crashing. Other affected programs are

- nm-connection-editor (doesn't run)
- network-admin (runs, but doesn't let me unlock the dialog)

As far as I can tell, the only workaround is to log out and log in again.

Thanks.

Bug#523645: python-apt: Port to Python 3.1

2009-04-11 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: python-apt
Version: 0.7.10.1
Owner: Julian Andres Klode j...@debian.org
Severity: wishlist

This bug is a bug for tracking the progress of the Py3k porting,
which I will work on next week (and also later).

The Python 3 port should happen about the same time as the PEP8 renaming
process,
leading to new Python bindings which may look drastically different from the
current ones.

We will generate two builds from the code:

1. The Python 2.X Builds
2. The Python 3.X Builds

For the Python 2.X builds, we will still ship the old functions names, which
will issue a warning on use and call the replacement functions.

For the Python 3.X builds, we will stop shipping these old names, but only ship
the new ones. (We simply 'del' all deprecation helpers when running under python
(= 3)).

The plan for the py3k branch is:
1. Port the apt_pkg and apt_inst extensions to Python 3
2. Merge it with the pep8-rename branch
3. Call 2to3 on apt/**.py and aptsources/*.py and fix the
   remaining issues.
4. Upload to experimental

These are my plans, and nothing official.

Bug#523601: spelling: inofficial vs. unofficial

2009-04-11 Thread Russ Allbery
Michael Prokop m...@grml.org writes:

What's the reason for the inofficial vs. unofficial check inside
 lintian?

inofficial looks wrong to me as a native English speaker. I've only
seen that form of the word used by people who are not native speakers. It
is listed in the OED with some history in English, but the OED marks it as
rare, which basically means that you never see it in normal written
English.

Normal Merriam-Webster doesn't recognize it, and both ispell and aspell
consider it a misspelling and suggest unofficial. dictionary.com has it,
but dictionary.com is based on Webster's Unabridged. I think this is a
case where an unabridged dictionary is steering you wrong.

There's some possibility that this is a US English vs. British English
thing, but I don't think it is.

Bug#523199: xautomation: xte str f...@bar = BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)

2009-04-11 Thread Marco Steinacher

On 11.04.2009 15:53, Timo Juhani Lindfors wrote:

Nevertheless, the behavior of xte (i.e. the set of supported characters)
depends on the current keyboard layout. From the debug log I guess that
in your case it's the Finnish layout, where the @ character is AltGr+2.
Unfortunately, this does not work in the current version of xte (see my
previous message). The patch I have submitted should fix that.

If you want to try it you can get the patched version at:
http://www.steinacher.info/temp/xautomation-1.02-special_chars_patch.tar.gz
(source code)

http://www.steinacher.info/temp/xte (binary compiled for Debian Lenny)

As a temporary workaround you could try to configure a different
keyboard layout. With the US layout, for example, the @-sign will work.
However, other characters will stop working if you switch the keyboard
layout (e.g. ö or ä).

complicated key sequence (e.g. involving Multi_key). A workaround is
 specifying the key sequence explicitly:

This is bit tricky since I need to figure out how to convert clipboard
contents into a sequence of str and keydown events to be able to
 paste it using xte.

With my patch, all characters that can be typed with any combination of
Shift + AltGr + any key of the current keyboard layout will work.
However, if your application should be able to paste any text, this is
not sufficient, because in order to type characters like ï or ŭ most
keyboard layouts require the use of the compose key (Multi_key) plus a
sequence of two characters. As I have pointed out in the previous
message, one would have to look up the corresponding key sequence
somewhere (eg. in /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose) to
implement this (either in your program or in xte).

Cheers,
Marco

Bug#512350: [Buildd-tools-devel] Bug#512350: Bug#512350: schroot Segfaults When Run From eesh

Could you possibly try running schroot in a debugger for me to

would be something odd being set in the environment, since that's
really the only think the shell can mess up, unless it doesn't
  open stdin/stdout/stderr as expected.

 It's possible that it's the latter case (stdin/stdout/stderr aren't
opened as expected). eesh is used for manipulating the enlightenment
 GUI.

OK. I installed e16 and tried to reproduce the problem.
I used a kdm e16 login (i.e. entire session was e16) or as a virtual
X server using Xnest.

In both cases
% eesh exec schroot -p echo foo bar
or
% eesh exec schroot -p echo foo bar
worked without segfaulting.

When running Xnest, I started e16 from an xterm terminal:
  % Xnest -geometry 800x600 :1

then ran xterm
  % xterm -display :1
and ran e16 in the xterm on the display, or ran e16 directly:
  % DISPLAY=:1 e16

in both cases, eesh output goes to the terminal I ran e16 from. If
running from a login manager such as kdm, I didn't get any output.

In all cases, things worked without a segfault. Could you try
the above to see if it works for you? How are you starting e16?

  Could you first, try:

Running with the additional option '--debug=notice' which will turn
on debugging output. This will show approximately where the bug
is occuring, as well as listing the environment and the other
things schroot is doing when starting up.

[…]

Thanks.
Out of interest, how are you redirecting the output in the eesh shell?

Next, try to get the environment from /proc/pid/environ for the
  schroot process.

[…]
That looks OK.

Also, the environment in eesh (I guess just type set) should be
the same, so this would also be useful information.

(Note, to get the following I ran eesh and typed 'exec schroot -pv
--debug=notice bash -c set' and redirected that to a text file)

[…]

This also looks fine.

Next, run schroot but from eesh and in gdb:

I'm not quite getting what you want; here is what I did (I have to run
gdb against eesh since eesh executes schroot):

In this case, in eesh you need to run
  % gdb /usr/bin/schroot
(gdb) run -p echo foo bar
  [… segfault]
  (gdb) backtrace

This should be possible if you run e16 from a shell and then gdb will
run on that terminal.

Oddly enough, schroot appears not to have segfaulted but bar.txt is empty:
 [Tue 23:53][pts/19 0]$ cat bar.txt

Unless eesh does shell redirection, I think it will just pass the
redirection bits directly to schroot as command-line arguments.

I could be screwing something up here, I may play around with this
some more to see if we can get something more informative.

If you've found anything new out in the meantime, I'd love to hear
about it. If you could give the suggestions above a try, that would
be great.

While I can't reproduce it myself on an amd64 machine, your system
or environment may be different. If you can still reproduce it, we
need to find out what the difference is if possible. One possibility
is if eesh doesn't keep stdin/stdout/stderr open at all (not even
redirected to /dev/null). However, even then it shouldn't cause a
segfault. I tested it with null stdout and stderr and it works fine
nonetheless.

Roger

Bug#523642: [Build-common-hackers] Bug#523642: overrides CFLAGS too agressively

2009-04-11 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

Hi Robert,

On Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 05:35:26PM +0200, Robert Millan wrote:
CFLAGS are overriden too agressively. Some packages have very specific
requirements when it comes to CFLAGS, and its upstream Makefiles will
know better.

Passing CFLAGS as argument makes it cumbersome to override, and removes
this flexibility (either we override or we don't). I think it's much
better to pass those as environment variables.

Thanks for your bugreport. Your argument makes sense in principle.

Unfortunately, CDBS is already in wide use with a different behaviour,
and chaning this now has a high risk of causing surprises for some of
those.

Personally I expect CDBS to forcefully tighten CFLAGS by default to the
ones used by default in Debian (i.e. favoring Debian over upstream), and
if in some odd case I really need upstream CFLAGS, I am well aware that
I will need to readd them.

I would expect other CDBS users to handle it similarly.

I do not say that CDBS is correct or not in its current behaviour, just
that it has a well defined vurrent behaviour that users rely on (whether
or not they are aware of it).

I have tagged this as wontfix for that reason. Please note that even if
this means I do not expect this to change (or at least not soon - it is
possible to change when we decide to bump ABI at some point, if ever), I
am still interested in discussing it!

Could you perhaps provide some good examples of upstream software
needing custom CFLAGS that is cumbersome to work around using CDBS?

Or is it that you would want to apply CDBS blindly to upstream packages
(e.g. automated across many upstreams) and not _need_ to do any
adjustments, even relatively simple ones, for upstreams with odd CFLAGS
needs?

Please elaborate...

Kind regards,

  - Jonas

Bug#523648: empathy: New message from ... notifications need to HTML-escape message text

2009-04-11 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: empathy
Version: 2.26.0-1
Severity: normal

empathy generates a desktop notification when someone sends me an
instant message and I don't already have a chat window open for them.
That's good. But the desktop notification mechanism honors some
subset of HTML tags, e.g. if the message sent was iHello!/i
then the notification shows Hello! in italics. It eats tags it
doesn't recognize or that are ill-formed; my SO is in the habit of
instant-messaging me 3 which shows up as a blank notification.

empathy should be HTML-escaping messages before passing them
to libnotify. [ I looked at the libnotify documentation
and it doesn't mention this at all, but I am guessing
that pango_parse_markup() is being called at some point, see
http://library.gnome.org/devel/pango/stable/PangoMarkupFormat.html --
unfortunately this does not say precisely how to escape arbitrary text.
Empirically, though, lt; gt; and amp; work as in HTML.]

Bug#523647: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Overlay doesn't work

2009-04-11 Thread David Johnson
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.6.3-1
Severity: important

Since upgrading to 2.6.3, overlay no longer works - I just get a
green-screen with no video. Textured video works OK. Hardware is the G35
chipset.

I'm forcing the use of overlay using the XvPreferOverlay option. I was
previously using version 2.4.2-1 of the driver (as included in unstable)
patched to allow textured video to be disabled (thus forcing the use of
overlay), which worked fine.

Using overlay is the only way to get video without tearing (as
reported/discussed in bug #453754).

Bug#523649: console-setup: vc switching not working for vt24

of /etc/default/console-setup to try to regain this functionality without
success. Please advise me how to configure console-setup to allow this

Perhaps the answer is just to remove console-setup and use the old ways?

Bug#394465: debian unicorn package

2009-04-11 Thread Philippe Coval
I've substantially re-worked the package build, as well as updated the
source so that it builds on the following kernel versions:

Great, you finished what I started, call me anytime now , I have bunch of stuff
to be done :)

I don't have time to become formal maintainer but I'm more than willing

Would one of the subscribers to this bug please be willing to look at
my updates and consider whether it's fit for an NMU ?

Yes a NMU would be fine, maybe you can contact dan...@d.org

He uploaded my previous version :

About me I can not test the driver anymore since I dont have that bewan modem

Thanks for all, Nick and others of this thread
Let's hope that unicorn will back in debian someday

Bug#523616: [kshutdown] Could you provide a KDE 4 version?

2009-04-11 Thread Eike Sauer
Hello!

Am Samstag, 11. April 2009 schrieb Romain Beauxis:
As a nice coincidence, I just switched to kde4 today, and found it is now
much better than the last time I looked at it !

I had to change some days ago for building my own package (kdiff3),
and found it finally usable, too. :o)

Hence, I will try to prepare a package for the kde4 version of kshutdown.
In the mean time, if you want to join the packaging you are welcome :)

Here you go...
The attached diff should allow to create a package from the beta 5 sources.
I changed the section to KDE, and I set the distribution to experimental,
(as I'm getting crashes for some options).
Besides that, I tried to use most of your packaging from the old version.
Feel free to use whatever is useful and to throw away the rest.

Ciao,
Eike

Bug#523629: www.debian.org: developer reference no longer available

Hi,

On Sat, 11.04.2009 at 08:23:32 -0700, Matt Kraai kr...@ftbfs.org wrote:

FWIW, the first bugnumber 523639 that you mention, gives me a bug
report about xcdroast. I guess that this is an oversight (putting in
'3' instead of a '2').

 Thanks for reporting this problem.

Until this is fixed, you can still access the sections of the
reference by inserting .en before the .html extension. For
 example,

  http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/scope.html

 becomes

  http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/scope.en.html

Ok, thanks for the heads-up. As I see it, this is a problem with the
desire to use Apache's content negotiation, which is imho both fragile
and creates an undesirable hidden dependency on Apache. I'd much prefer
to have an entirely different scheme altogether, selecting the language
manually up front, and then having simple, robust, relative linking of

file1.html - file2.html (in HTML, not on the file system!)

for every language, and do away with content negotiation for good.

Like

DR - Please select your language (or maybe switch via a CGI or
similar):

 en/index.html
 en/...

 fr/index.html
 fr/...

 etc.pp.

Such a scheme could then be served by about any web server. The problem
of inadvertantly overwriting files if the user should desire to install
two or more languages of the DR, would be to include the language-code
directory in the package.

Kind regards,
--Toni++

Why not use an environment variable then?

Could you perhaps provide some good examples of upstream software
needing custom CFLAGS that is cumbersome to work around using CDBS?

Yeah, Linux modules. Or plugins in general for all sort of programs. They're
usually very picky when it comes to CFLAGS.

Bug#512826: bkchem: crash of X window after repeated use of object conf

Hi Kenward,

May I ask, if you still observe this crash?

If yes, can you try to provide a backtrace? You maybe need to install
some debugging symbols (probably python-dbg and maybe the OpenGL
debugiing symbols libgl* ...). To get the backtrace, try:

gdb python
...
(gdb) set logging on
(gdb) r /usr/lib/bkchem/bkchem/bkchem.py

and then reproduce the crash. When it happens, type:

...
(gdb) bt full
(gdb) q

Maybe the backtrace will tell us more, where the crash is caused (I
guess, somewhere in the graphics driver; but we will see).

Bug#463772: gimp: enabled 'configured mouse' (insted of core pointer) brings an error

2009-04-11 Thread Cedric Laczny
I experienced a similar problem. I don't know about error messages as I
started GIMP directly and not via a console.
But I had a working stylus and eraser but when using to mouse, I got no effect
on the image, no matter what drawing tool I used.
I figured out that disabling _all_ extended input devices made my mouse work
again, although the stylus was now no longer pressure sensitive (seems
reasonable).
But when I now enabled the stylus and eraser again (set to Mode: Screen)
everything worked as expected! The mouse resulted in effects as well as the
stylus/eraser including pressure sensitivity.
However, when I changed the characteristics of the stylus using wacomcpl, I
ran into the same problem again. It could be fixed with the disable + enable
procedure. So apparently, when using wacomcpl, it must mix up something in
the configuration so that GIMP needs to reset the extended input devices.

Hope this helps.

Bug#523656: emcast: Please update build dep for libglib1.2

2009-04-11 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: emcast
Version: 0.3.2-6
Severity: important

Hi,

Now that Gtk1.2 is removed we are also looking to remove glib1.2 from
the archive. Emcast currently fails to build with glib2.0 as it uses
AM_PATH_GLIB. I tried changing it to AM_PATH_GLIB_2_0 but there are
some other autoconf issues.

Thank you,

Bug#521091: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#521091: libvirt0: No valid PXE rom found for network device

2009-04-11 Thread Andreas Unterkircher

I've requested this upstream some time ago but they want to keep the
wizard simple. I wouldn't object to a Debian specific patch though, the
virtinst api has all that's needed.

Attached is a first try - an additional drop down box is
displayed in the Advanced options trough which the Device
Model can be modified. If the setting is kept at Hypervisor
default, the behavior is like it always was before.

It's not that perfect as I needed to double some code (from
addhardware.py) as I do not know how to access a function

from another class right now...

Cheers,
Andreas

This is a very straight forward port, e.g. uses bytes instead of strings (which
may be better at some places). But this way is the easiest way to start working.

I will send an email once I have completed apt_pkg extension.

Bug#523509: gcj-4.3: after upgrading gcc-4.3 to 4.3.3-7 -- still FTBFS

2009-04-11 Thread Eric Pozharski
Package: gcj-4.3
Version: 4.3.3-3
Followup-For: Bug #523509

I've experienced the same problem. As a measure to verify dependencies
desincronization I'd attempted to rebuild gcc-4.3_4.3.3-3 (testing) --
it failed the same way, gcj-4.3 fails. Yesterday I've rebuilt
gcc-4.3_4.3.3-7 (unstable) -- that succeeded. gcj-4.3 FTBFSes though.
autoconf2.59 issue?

Bug#523658: xfce4-panel: Problem with system tray and vertical panel

2009-04-11 Thread Torquil Macdonald Sørensen
Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.4.2-6
Severity: normal

Hi! I'm having some problems with the XFCE panel and the network manager (NM)
applet (network-manager-gnome).

With a horizontal panel at the bottom of the screen there is no problem. After
login, the NM applet is started automatically, and it is displayed in the
system tray.

When reconfiguring the panel to be vertical on the left side, the NM applet icon
in the system tray disappears, although the process nm-applet is still
running.

After logging in (while having a vertical panel) the NM applet is not shown in
the
system tray. But reconfiguring the panel to be horizontal makes the icon appear.
After changing back to vertical the icon is still there.

Best regards
Torquil Sørensen
