Bug#526229: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#526229: samba: Bug prevents Win2kSP4 clients to join domain
forwarded 526229 https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6301 thanks Quoting Mario Lipinski (l...@gymszbad.de): > Package: samba > Version: 2:3.3.3-1.1 > Severity: normal > > See https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6301 > Applying the patch solved the problem here. > I experienced the problem with the current samba version in stable and > testing. Well, OK. So, what is really the value added by reporting in Debian BTS a bug that has already been reported, analyzed and *fixed* upstream? In don't want to sound rude, but what you're just asking us is to make double work by hooking up on upstream BTS, check in what version this is fixedand wait for an upcoming version to fix the bug anyway. I'm not in favor of applying the patch. Diverging from upstream is pointless at this point of development. As they have a very regular upload schedule that guarantees us that the bug will be fixed in an upcoming 3.3.* version, there would be no point in applying this patch, imho. Really, please, this is a plea to all users of Samba in Debian: until we are getting close to the release of squeeze, please *don't* make double bug reports when issues are already dealt with and known by the Samba Teamunless you think that the bug makes the samba package completely unsuitable for release (ie is release critical). Many thanks for your care reporting, still. Again, I don't want to be rude but more try to save our scarce resources! signature.asc Description: Digital signature

But as it worked with XFCE4.4, I don't think it's a driver > issue. It doesn't happen with other driver, so I think it's a driver issue. Twinview is *not* xinerama, and xinerama is gone anyway. The future is randr 1.2 stuff, which panel supports more or less correctly (especially with static config). It *doesnt* support twinview because nobody really know what is twinview. And yes, xfce4-panel (and xfwm4) changed between 4.4 and 4.6, especially to support randr 1.2. So yes, there might be a bug, but unless the developer can reproduce it it'll be very hard to fix. You may not have time to find how to configure randr 1.2, but don't expect other people to have time to fix proprietary bugs either, especially without any kind of information. That said, if you have a dual-output card it should be fairly easy to use RandR 1.2 (and there are plenty of documentation on the net). You don't have to retune all your config, just disabling all that twinview stuff, switch to vesa driver (or maybe remove xorg.conf completely and let xorg chose the best driver, like nv or vesa), add a Virtual line so there is enough memory allocated, and when in Xfce, use xrandr to configure the dual screen output. You will need something like: xrandr --output $left --left-of $right restart xfce4-panel just to be sure, and report back. Bug#525782: lintian: warn about "#MISSING: ..." in symbols files
clone 525782 -1 reassign -1 dpkg-dev retitle -1 dpkg-gensymbols should strip #MISSING lines in symbols files in .deb thanks On Mon, 27 Apr 2009, Paul Wise wrote: > Please warn about symbols files containing #MISSING: ... It's not clear to me that they have to be stripped. They represent useful information for the maintainer about the history of the library. I tend to agree that they are useless in the symbols files inside the .deb (and hence in /var/lib/dpkg/info/) but I would not force them to be stripped inside the source package. dpkg-gensymbols should strip them by default when generating an updated symbols file (but still show them that way in the diff). Hence the clone. (It should still have an option to keep them at least for the mole worker that generates initial symbols files) See also in #521551 how the format might evolve to contain more meta-information about symbols and how using those comments was suggested. Note that those lines might also come from the symbol files that they grabbed on qa.debian.org/cgi-bin/mole.cgi and not necessarily from their own patching. > These lines indicate some symbols have disappeared in newer versions of > a library. The problem is that you can't know automatically if you are in a case where the symbols can safely be removed (private one, devel version with unstable API, etc) or if you should shout at the maintainer. I'm not sure that lintian can diagnose anything here. I've done some further testing: It _will_ work some of the time, typically if I log out of kde it'll work the first time I try to connect when I log back in, except it won't work on the first login after the machine is booted, I have to boot/login/logout/login again before it will work. I've spotted the following in the auth log, which I suspect is related: Apr 30 06:37:42 marvin dbus-daemon: Rejected send message, 7 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.71" (uid=0 pid=9612 comm="/usr/sbin/pppd nodetach lock nodefaultroute ttyUSB") interface="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.PPP" member="SetState" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager" (uid=0 pid=9590 comm="/usr/sbin/NetworkManager ")) but if it's dbus permissions, why would they change part way through a session? Hmm - this surprises me, because as of 1.2.2.4 when this issue was looked at in the jaunty cycle (early February), multiple people were able to confirm that removing this script had a noticeable impact on suspend/resume speed. But I do certainly see the "$NEED_CLOCK_SYNC" check there, and see that it was also present in 1.2.2.4, so I'm at a loss to explain why removing this script made a difference. I think it would probably be better to remove the script altogether (it should not be needed on systems going forward, and there is some cost to having to start up another shell for this no-op script), but if you/upstream disagree, then feel free to close this report. In any event, the script does have an inaccurate comment at the top: # TODO: Do modern kernels handle this correctly? If so, we should detect that # and skip this hook. We know the answer, so perhaps this should be cleaned up at some point. :) -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#526242: pm-utils: don't install 90clock, it slows down suspend for no reason
Package: pm-utils Version: 1.2.5-2 Tags: patch User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch karmic Hi Michael, pm-utils currently includes a script to call hwclock on suspend and resume, to save and restore the system clock. However, recent kernels handle this directly, and much more efficiently - having to call hwclock results in a full one-second delay on suspend and resume, because of the way this userspace tool works. So I strongly recommend not installing this script as part of the package. (N.B., I only know for sure that this is true for the kernel suspend/resume method, I can't speak for whether the tuxonice or uswsusp methods do their own correct clock handling. Nevertheless, adding a full second delay to the suspend process significantly impacts the user experience, so if those methods don't already handle the clock in kernel, they should be fixed to do so.) -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Hi, I upgraded from debian lenny to squeeze last weekend. Today i received as a gift (how lucky!) a black iPod Nano 4th gen 8GB (model A1285). So i installed gtkpod and tried to make it work. Ok, but thats not the bug you reported: the symptoms showed a missing library, not an incompatibility. (I was able to upgrade binutils without breaking ggcov, for example). An eternally-changing ABI and lacking versioned symbols is a problem with binutils that should be fixed within binutils. Submit a bug (and preferably a patch) to binutils to fix this. Statically linking the library means (1) ggcov remains broken if a bug in libbfd is found, until it is rebuilt. Potentially a security-critical bug. (2) binutils doesn't get fixed. Bug#526236: nvidia-graphics-modules-amd64: update for nvidia driver 180.44 on kernel 2.6.29
Package: nvidia-graphics-modules-amd64 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi, so far I used a locally updated version of this package to build nvidia module packages and upload them to a local repository. Before the 2.6.29/180.44 reorganization this worked without changes (besides bumping version numbers). Now a bit more work was needed to get this working again, so here comes a patch with the neccessary changes. I also tried enabling nvidia in linux-modules-nonfree, this built packages without problems, but these are not compatible with the ones previously built from this package (different names and especially they lack a Provides: nvidia-kernel-180.44). There might be more neccessary to bring linux-modules-nonfree up-to-date with nvidia, but I couldn't find a patch anywhere and didn't want to reinvent it. Using module-assistant is not a good solution if you have several machines to be kept in sync and don't want to have m-a, kernel-headers, compiler, ... installed verywhere. Enough of reasoning why I use nvidia-graphics-modules-amd64, there are three changes neccessary to make it work with current driver and kernel. This works with an unmodified nvidia-kernel-source 180.44-2, but some of the workarounds I applied may give pointers to what has to be changed in the source package to restore make-kpkg compatibility. 1. added Build-Depends: module-assistant this is neccessary since nvidia-kernel-source debian/rules includes some makefile snippets from m-a (conditionally, but without including them some variables (e.g. VERSION) are missing and passing VERSION on the command line calling the binary-modules target (in module source) causes lots of problems 2. pass KPKG_DEST_DIR=.. when calling module source debian/rules binary-modules 3. pass HAVECONFIG=y when calling debian/rules clean in the module source otherwise clean fails miserably, this is a bug in nvidia-kernel-source Remaining changes in the attached patch are version bumps or "cosmetics" (change section, drop openvz flavor). Bug#505153: Combination of Kmail and Klamav duplicates content and corrupts image files
Although it seems appears that you can turn off Klamav via the Kmail filters, in fact this does not prevent it from running, it just means that the "X-Virus-Flag: no" line does not prefix the email. Duplication and corruption are still present. So I uninstalled Klamav. This fixes both duplication and corruption. It also ends the "freeze" that stops Kmail from doing anything while downloading - there is another bug for this I think. Sorry, but I don't understand why a Depends: on binutils is insufficient in this case. If it was not present on the system, then there was a problem with the local configuration: eg. 'dpkg --force-all' to force installation despite missing files; files deliberately 'rm'd', etc. ggcov had dependencies on _many_ dynamic libraries and your argument would hold for all, forbidding dynamic linking, which is just not realistic on a modern system. Why do you think I should statically link libbfd ? Bug#487275: gkrellm: Possibly related, my mail check program's only run on startup.
Package: gkrellm Version: 2.3.1-8 Followup-For: Bug #487275 Hi. This all worked in Etch, and still does on an Etch desktop since upgraded to Lenny. Doesn't work on my bare install Lenny laptop (no graphical login or "Desktop environment"; startx --> fluxbox. Works great, mostly). My Gkrellm "Mail reading program" is: xterm +sb -T mutt -fn fixed -geometry 94x42-76+51 -e mutt "Mail fetch/check program" is: /home/keeling/sh/pop Which is just a /bin/sh that wraps fetchmail. I've tried replacing it with a direct call to /usr/bin/fetchmail. Still, only runs on startup. I suspect a "scp my_old_box:~/.gkrellm2 ." might be the problem, but Linux apps should handle this more intelligently (slrn is smart enough to warn on deprecated config entries). I'll be happy to dump my ~/.gkrellm2 on you from both boxes if you think it might help. Bug#526219: glib2.0: prefer libgamin-dev over libfam-dev?
Source: glib2.0 Version: 2.20.1-1 Severity: wishlist User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu karmic Hi folks, The current glib2.0 package build-depends on libfam-dev | libgamin-dev. Would it be too much to ask to reverse the order of these build dependencies? ABI compatibility between the two libraries is enforced, so the outcome should be equivalent, but in Ubuntu we have gamin as part of the supported package set, not fam - so the current order makes it harder to reconcile Ubuntu's main archive. And at one point, I thought Debian was switching to use gamin in preference over fam, as well - but this doesn't appear to be the case now? If you don't want to make this change, feel free to close out the bug report and we'll cope with the small inconsistency. Investigations have shown that GConf is writing its config file /home/hansi/.gconf/%gconf-tree.xml.new over and over again. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing-proposed-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_AT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_AT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages evolution depends on: ii dbus 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii debconf [deb 1.5.26 Debian configuration management sy ii evolution-co 2.26.1.1-1 architecture independent files for ii evolution-da 2.26.1.1-1 evolution database backend server ii gconf2 2.26.0-1GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-icon-t 2.24.0-4GNOME Desktop icon theme ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.26.0-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbluetooth 3.36-1 Library to use the BlueZ Linux Blu ii libbonobo2-0 2.24.1-1Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2 2.24.1-1The Bonobo UI library ii libc62.9-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo21.8.6-2+b1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcamel1.2- 2.26.1.1-1 The Evolution MIME message handlin ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib 0.80-4 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libebackend1 2.26.1.1-1 Utility library for evolution data ii libebook1.2- 2.26.1.1-1 Client library for evolution addre ii libecal1.2-7 2.26.1.1-1 Client library for evolution calen ii libedataserv 2.26.1.1-1 Utility library for evolution data ii libedataserv 2.26.1.1-1 GUI utility library for evolution ii libegroupwis 2.26.1.1-1 Client library for accessing group ii libenchant1c 1.4.2-3.3 a wrapper library for various spel ii libexchange- 2.26.1.1-1 Client library for accessing Excha ii libfontconfi 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.9-4.1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.26.0-1GNOME configuration database syste ii libgdata-goo 2.26.1.1-1 Client library for accessing Googl ii libgdata1.2- 2.26.1.1-1 Client library for accessing Googl ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.4-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.1-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-pil 2.0.15-2.4 Support libraries for gnome-pilot ii libgnome2-0 2.26.0-1The GNOME library - runtime files ii libgnomecanv 2.20.1.1-1 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.24.1-1The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2 1:2.24.1-1 GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.1-2The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkhtml-e 3.26.1.1-1 HTML rendering/editing library - e ii libgtkhtml3. 3.26.1.1-1 HTML rendering/editing library - r ii libhal1 0.5.12~git20090406.46dc48-2 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libical0 0.43-2 iCalendar library implementation i ii libice6 2:1.0.5-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libldap-2.4- 2.4.15-1.1 OpenLDAP libraries ii libnotify1 [ 0.4.5-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libnspr4-0d 4.7.4-2 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libnss3-1d 3.12.3-1Network Security Service libraries ii liborbit21:2.14.17-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0- 1.24.0-3+b1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock9 0.12.3-11 library for communicating with a P ii libpisync1 0.12.3-11 synchronization library for PalmOS ii libpopt0 1.14-4 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 2:1.1.0-2 X11 Session Management library ii libsoup2.4-1 2.26.1-1an HTTP li

Bug#514053: Broken AltGr Seems to be a Gnome bug
Hi Julien, Am Mittwoch, den 29.04.2009, 23:02 +0200 schrieb Julien Cristau: > > Maybe gnome-session-daemon applies the Xmodmap at an unfortunate time of > > the system start? > > > The difference might also be that in the third case, no key has been > pressed before the modmap is loaded, which could point to some > initialization bug in X. What happens if you run startx with "xmodmap > $foo; exec /usr/bin/xterm" in ~/.xinitrc? heh, I had the same idea, see my other mail, which I sent before I got yours. But your conclusion was better than mine. Indeed, if I make sure I press a key before Xmodmap runs, everything is fine. OTOH, if I am careful not to press a key, before it runs, it is broken. So it does not depend on the time passed, but rather whether a key as been pressed first. I hope that helps to track down the bug. So it's indeed fixed for 'reportbug' itself, but for all the other /usr/share/bug/*/presubj script, the user is still left with a pager with no instruction on how to go on (one example I checked was 'git'). Bug#516900: Followup
severity 516900 important thanks Peter, I have not heard from anyone else before, and Debian is shipping the same script that upstream is using. This path has been tested, I'm sure. What are the specific bugs you are seeing? I am very hesitant to mess with the schema of a table as well. I will not intend to apply this in Debian unless upstream agrees with it. Reducing severity since it would only even apply in some small cases. Thanks, -- John -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
