Bug#537323: Perhaps a critical mistake in the example for chaining with Tor?
Package: privoxy Version: 3.0.13-1 Justification: user security hole Severity: grave Tags: security Hi. Since the last release or so, the config template gives this as an example for chaining privoxy with Tor: # To chain Privoxy and Tor, both running on the same system, # you would use something like: # #forward-socks5 / 127.0.0.1:9050 . AFAIK, it was always the case, that with socks5, DNS resolution happened locally and not via the proxy (which was the reason one should use socks4a). Has this changed? As this change could render Tor useless,.. and I found no docs whether the above has change in the meantime... I've marked this bug as security critical. Bug#536480: gnome-*-icon-theme overrides my start-here icon (Debian swirl)
Thanks for reporting this issue and providing a patch. The next upstream release will have the start-here icon renamed to gnome-colors and start-here will link to it. So the Debian package has only to overwrite the start-here link. An other solution would be, to remove the start-here link/icon. Maybe upstream can provide an unbranded install target. Because gnome-colors-common depends on gnome, the start-here icons from gnome are used. gnome-colors-common has only to register the gnome-colors start-here icon. What do you think? Bug#537326: dovecot-common: should try fcntl before dotlock
Package: dovecot-common Version: 1:1.2.1-1 Severity: normal Hi, dovecot currently defaults with: mbox_write_locks = dotlock fcntl according to policy 11.6 though: All Debian MUAs, MTAs, MDAs and other mailbox accessing programs (such as IMAP daemons) must lock the mailbox in an NFS-safe way. This means that fcntl() locking must be combined with dot locking. To avoid deadlocks, a program should use fcntl() first and dot locking after this, or alternatively implement the two locking methods in a non blocking way. Postfix does indeed lock in the opposite order to this, and Jaldhar noted the above policy in discussion about that in #d-d, so probably we should flip the order of these in the config supplied by the package. Bug#536174: xen-utils-3.4: pygrub searches for filesystem plugins at the wrong path
The Debian Xen packaging has been carrying a long pile of invasive patches to use this modified filesystem layout for quite some time now. I assume the goal is to make it possible to install multiple versions of Xen at the same time. But that doesn’t seem to have been successful in practice (e.g. #536173, #536176). These patches make the Xen package extraordinarily difficult to modify or upgrade (I’ve tried!). Every added component requires another set of patches, and every new upstream version requires rewriting many of the existing patches. I can only assume that this difficulty at least partially to blame for the gap of more than a year between these last two Xen releases in Debian (#526833). Furthermore, users who read the upstream Xen documentation (#508139), as well as programs that try to use the Xen binaries (#481105) or libraries (#507186), get thrown off by the alternate layout. Is there actually a use case for installing multiple versions of Xen on the same system? Perhaps it is time to reconsider them and use a layout closer to upstream’s? Or if not, perhaps the patches can be sent upstream and integrated as a supported configure option, so that Debian does not need to maintain an unsupported layout separately? The current development release is 0.6.02, released July 8, 2009, it contains some very useful features, such as Checkpoint/Restart capabilities, which would fix at least one bug in the BTS. Uploading this version to Experimental would be a useful exercise IMHO. i'm not happy with the idea of maintaining three versions (lenny's ancient one, testing/unstable and an experimental one), especially as in the recent past even the major version switches haven't caused much breakage. i will therefore package 0.6, test it and upload it for unstable+testing, likely followed by an etch-backport build as well. regards az -- + Alexander Zangerl + DSA 42BD645D + (RSA 5B586291) Fachbegriffe der Informatik, Interaktives Fernsehen: Fernsteuerung mit Taste 'Bezahlen' statt 'Aus'. Bug#535469: sks does not longer start
Hi Christoph Christoph Anton Mitterer schrieb: Did you mean 1.1.0-7 or -6 ? The later one would still fail (on i386): # sks db unknown timeout type argument to DB_ENV-rep_get_timeout Segmentation fault # sks recon unknown timeout type argument to DB_ENV-rep_get_timeout Segmentation fault 1.1.0-6 in Debian and 1.1.0-4 in Ubuntu were build with libdb4.7-dev but linked against libdb4.6. This caused the Segfault. 1.1.0-7 and 1.1.0-8 in Debian are build correctly and don't segfault.
