Bug#551966: syscp: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: syscp Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Thursday, October 08, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for syscp. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading syscp with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, October 25, 2009, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Sunday, November 15, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Monday, November 16, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- syscp.old/debian/templates 2009-10-08 14:56:57.0 +0200 +++ syscp/debian/templates 2009-10-22 07:05:59.095868375 +0200 @@ -1,3 +1,12 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: syscp/reconfigure-webserver Type: multiselect Choices: apache2, lighttpd @@ -9,17 +18,16 @@ Type: string Default: admin _Description: Username for the first admin user: - You need to setup an admin user to be able to login to SysCP after - installation. Well, you're right, you could not know that I am actually managing debconf l10n in the SVN, in order to save valuable developer time (namley Joey Hess or Colin Watson time). And, though I can follow in committing newly reported translation updates, I can't track code changes or manpages changes and issue relevant calls for updates in a timely manner. If there are no updates on this issue in a month, I guess I'll request the removal of the package from testing as a first step. Bug#551961: Works now
I spoke too soon - the plugin does disable properly. I'm not sure what caused the initial problem, but shortly after the bug report I was able to disable the plugin without a problem. I still think this plugin should be disabled by default as it does connect to external networks on its own accord. -- http://www.docunext.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". That's quite likely. I'm continually testing new versions of debmirror with stable and intend to ensure compatibility with that, but IMHO it's too much to ask for compatibility with oldstable. So you'll either just have to use the (old)stable version of debmirror, or fix the incompatibility yourself. Looking at the failing line it looks as if something like this change in split_dist() might work for you: - my $dist_sdir = $1 // ""; + my $dist_sdir = $1 ? $1 : ""; However, it is clear that it should have a versioned dependency. Bug#541389: Use of CONFIG_NUMA_EMU
The Debian kernel team received a request to enable this config option in our packaged kernels for x86-64, with reference to Documentation/x86/x86_64/fake-numa-for-cpusets. This document seems to encourage the use this option in production. However, the Kconfig help text for this says (as it has done from the beginning of git history): Enable NUMA emulation. A flat machine will be split into virtual nodes when booted with "numa=fake=N", where N is the number of nodes. This is only useful for debugging. Please could you clarify whether you think this is really suitable for production use, in particular whether it would be sane to enable the config option in a distribution kernel? Bug#541389: linux-2.6: please enable CONFIG_NUMA_EMU
CONFIG_NUMA_EMU seems to be mostly harmless. It adds something like 22 bytes of static data per NUMA node and we currently support up to 64 nodes on amd64. It seems to add a fair amount of code, but virtually all of that is marked __init so it doesn't use up memory after boot. I would like to get some clarification from upstream on whether this option is really intended for production use. Bug#551960: gnome-power-manager: Flashes the backlight and brings the machine to a crawl
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.24.4-3 Severity: important My latest upgrade brought a real bugger: after suspend (typically, tho I can trigger it some other ways as well, e.g. if I play enough with the backlight buttons; it doesn't seem to be 100% deterministic), gnome-power-manager seems to get into some funny state where it causes the backlight to oscillate between two states, really quickly, making it appear like the backlight is flickering or flashing. Additionally the machine is brought to a crawl, probably because of all the work going on with the OSD button being constantly redisplayed/ I've appended the (hopefully relevant) output from "gnome-power-manager --verbose", which seems to indicate that GPM synthesises button events and then reacts to them by synthesising more, etc... I need GPM's features (mostly suspend-on-lid-close and things like that), so I tried to disable all the backlight features of GPM (including via gconf-editor), but it didn't make any difference w.r.t to this problem. Bug#550815: aqualung bug # 550815
I have been experiencing this same problem for the past several days, after a recent gtk2 update I believe. In my case Aqualung is using about 60% of both cpus ( Intel 2.4C with hyperthreading ) and the application is just a blank rectangle. I tied to use the window button to annihilate it, which closes the blank rectangle, but the process is still running and using much cpu. It does not show up using ps -aux so I have to use top to see it and kill it. It's quite annoying to have to kill the app and restart just to play some more music. Starting from firefox 3.5, horizontal lines have start appearing through some forum posts. For instance in the second post on http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1298447, written by "MicroNinja", there is a line appearing between "will be selling 10mbit, 20mbit, and so on." and "Dave, the National Broadband Network is coming, put up with it." The lines can been seen sporadically in different posts with no obvious pattern, except they typically appear between the last and second last lines in the post. Bug#551956: pulseaudio introduces noise/clipping

Bug#551955: RFP: ttf-anonymous-pro -- A fixed-width sans-serif font designed especially for coders
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: ttf-anonymous-pro Version : 1.001 Upstream Author : Mark Simonson * URL : http://www.ms-studio.com/FontSales/anonymouspro.html * License : SIL Open Font License Description : A fixed-width sans-serif font designed especially for coders Anonymous Pro is a family of four fixed-width fonts designed especially with coding in mind. Characters that could be mistaken for one another (O, 0, I, l, 1, etc.) have distinct shapes to make them easier to tell apart in the context of source code. Anonymous Pro also features an international, Unicode-based character set, with support for most Western and European Latin-based languages, Greek, and Cyrillic. It also includes special "box drawing" characters for those who need them. I spoke with Mark Simonson previously about releasing his freeware font Anonymous Pro as FOSS. He had apparently considered the idea before that as well. I just discovered that Mark generously released Anonymous Pro under the Open Font License recently. To encourage widespread usage and distribution of this excellent font, I've filed this RFP requesting a package for Debian. Thank you, Mark! And thank you to whoever ends up packaging this for Debian. - Josh Triplett -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#502262: libgtk2-ruby1.8: Gtk UI rendering hangs when another thread is working
Just encountered the same problem. I think this bug is solved with 0.19.3-1. I've tested Johans sample code and this code of mine: --- require 'gtk2' require 'monitor' # Create UI button = Gtk::Button.new("Hello World") window = Gtk::Window.new window.signal_connect("destroy") { Gtk.main_quit } # Lay out UI window.border_width = 10 window.add(button) window.show_all Thread.new { sleep(5) puts "yupp" } Gtk.main --- With 0.19.1 any background thread blocks the Gtk main thread. With 0.19.3 this works just fine. AFAIK this problem was already solved in 0.19.2. The changelog even refers to this Debian bug. See: http://ruby-gnome2.sourceforge.jp/hiki.cgi?News_20090924_1#Ruby%2FGLib2 So please consider closing this bug. Tobias signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

So, please remove binary package libaqhbci16 from unstable. AqBanking has transitioned to libaqhbci17 and no other packages depend on it. Micha P.S.: Do I really need to request such random soname transition manually? I thought this happened kind of automatically in the past... -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#551952: initramfs-tools: make the order of script execution more robust/flexible/intelligent
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.92o Severity: normal At the moment the order boot scripts are executed in depends solely on 'prereqs' that are - at least in the scripts on my system - rather static. While the admin can *add* scripts under /etc/initramfs-tools there is no elegant way to *override* scripts in /usr/share/initramfs-tools (or at least their prereqs). Sure, I could divert and edit them, but ... Now, why is the prereqs-mechanism not sufficent? An example: a) dm-crypt on lvm2 on md, b) lvm2 on dm-crypt on md, c) lvm2 on md on dm-crypt and even d) md on lvm2 are all valid configurations, depending on the situation. That is, the ordering of these layers (and consequently the exec order of the corresponding scripts) is important but it cannot be assumed to be the same across all possible systems. Status: a works, so does b (but at first glance I can't see why), while c is broken. While I haven't tested d), *someone* is bound to need exactly such a setup and I don't see a reason to disallow it. Is it possible within the current initramfs-tools framework to allow a) through d) without ugly custom hacks? Maybe it could be extended to honor an /etc/initramfs-tools/order file to allow the admin to hardcode execution order? Or a dirctory containing /etc/rc?.d-style symlinks? Perhaps just specify that /usr/share/.../xxx is only executed if /etc/.../xxx doesn't exist? Or as a last resort run all scripts again in a different order if no rootfs is found the first time 'round :-P Thanks, C. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-bpo.2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_AT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_AT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages initramfs-tools depends on: ii cpio 2.9-13 GNU cpio -- a program to manage ar ii findutils 4.4.0-2utilities for finding files--find, ii klibc-utils 1.5.12-2 small utilities built with klibc f ii module-init-tools 3.4-1 tools for managing Linux kernel mo ii udev 0.125-7+lenny3 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo Versions of packages initramfs-tools recommends: ii busybox 1:1.10.2-2 Tiny utilities for small and embed initramfs-tools suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#541145: solved changing hard disk order in bios
Hello, I solved changing disk order in bios too but this is a workaround. I'm using 2 IDE disks: Primary master hd0 /dev/hdaNOT Linux Primary slavehd1 /dev/hdbDebian Before, bios booted on /dev/hda and I got grub menu after 15-20 seconds. Now, bios boots on /dev/hdb and boot is fast as should be. It seems that, booting on the 1st disk, it was looking for /boot/grub that is on the 2nd disk. In both cases, before and after, kernel loads quickly. G -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#551951: debian-cd: Please make .iso files usable as USB images, via isohybrid
Package: debian-cd Severity: wishlist I recently learned of isohybrid, a script from the syslinux project which modifies isolinux-based CD .iso images to boot when imaged onto a USB drive. Adding support for this to the debian-cd process, and making the bootable Debian CD images usable as USB images directly, would greatly simplify the process of booting the Debian installer from USB. - Josh Triplett -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#551949: phpmyadmin: Denial of Service Attack through setup.php
Package: phpmyadmin Version: 4:2.9.1.1-11 Severity: important Reporting a remote denial of service attack against phpmyadmin's setup.php interface. After the attack the web interface is not usable. The web client displays the following text. Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.9.1.1-Debian-11 phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server. Error MySQL said: #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) After the attack the following file exists: -rw-r- 1 root root 746 2009-10-04 15:23:40 /var/lib/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php Here are the contents of that file: * Version: $Id: setup.php 9484 2006-10-03 13:11:22Z nijel $ * Date: Sun, 04 Oct 2009 15:23:40 GMT */ /* Servers configuration */ $i = 0; /* Server (config:root) [1] */ $i++; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['host___if___GET__cecho___pre___system___GET__cechopreif___GET__pecho___pre___eval___GET__pechopre___'] = 'localhost'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysqli'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress'] = false; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root'; /* End of servers configuration */ ?> Obviously the "host___if___GET__c__..." part is somewhat escaped and prevents the full attack and was intended to use parameters 'c' and 'p' later to be eval'd and displayed. Instead things are simply broken by the attack. The auth_type being set to 'config' is what breaks the installation. The normal case for us here is 'cookie'. That didn't happen due to the protection in place in 4:2.9.1.1-11 but the system was brought down to a broken state. I repaired this by purging the installation and reinstalling to create a clean config.inc.php file and then ensuring that this file is included in intrusion detection monitoring but I am certain that the vulnerability for a repeat attack is likely. I have this host configured for daily automatic security upgrades. Therefore this system always has the latest version with 24 hours of a release of an update. The system has always been fully up to date and it appears that the current stable released package has this denial attack potential. Here is the recent upgrade history from the dpkg.log file: 2008-12-01 04:06:11 upgrade phpmyadmin 4:2.9.1.1-8 4:2.9.1.1-9 2009-02-12 04:14:24 upgrade phpmyadmin 4:2.9.1.1-9 4:2.9.1.1-10 2009-06-26 04:12:51 upgrade phpmyadmin 4:2.9.1.1-10 4:2.9.1.1-11 I don't know how this attack was able to use setup.php to write to the config.inc.php file but the timestamps of the file correlate between the Apache access log and the resulting config.inc.php file. The phpmyadmin web interface was working prior to the attack and was not functional after the attack so this cannot have been left over from an attack on the previous version. It seems that the problem exists only when apache2 and the KDC are located on the same host. I tried to install the module on a nearby computer with Ubuntu and everything worked well. Hi Rainer, could you take a look at that. Shouldn't a simple reload keep /dev/log available? Or is rsyslog doing a full restart on "reload" due to listening on tcp port 514? See patch 40_swig_php_param.patch > I was not able to recover since which version swig changed that > option. It would be wise to put that version in the Build-Depends. Yeah. Unfortunately that doesn't seem documented, either in Debian or upstream. I guess -php5 remained during quite a while for compatibility after php4 support got dropped, and finally got dropped lately. > As a final note: graphviz will FTBFS also if tcl8.4 or previous are > installed, so > > Build-Conflicts: tcl8.4, tcl8.3 > > should be added to the control file. Yeah, tcl is quite a PITA to deal with. Seen that for other packages as well, just did so for graphviz too. Thanks again! Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#551907: mandos-client adds unnecessary files to initrd
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 "C. Dominik Bodi" writes: > The update-initramfs hook script for mandos client adds several > files into the initrd that are not necessary for its operation. Yes, that is indeed a bug. Very sorry about that. We will fix this right away. > One of the files being added causes a severe security risk for other > mandos client in case the client acts as a mandos server, as well. I must confess that I do not understand how this can be the case. (I guess it would be terrible if a client would, by some mistake, be set up to be its own Mandos server, but that would never work anyway, so nobody is supposed to even *have* that configuration.) > The superfluous files can be found in > initrd_root/etc/conf/conf.d/mandos/ Yes, I see them. We'll change this now to just copy the needed files (or file, as it happens). > [...], if the mandos server package is installed on the same > computer, the /etc/mandos/mandos.conf and /etc/mandos/clients.conf > will be added to the initrd, as well. Yes. This was, of course, not intended, and we will fix it now. > The latter contains the fingerprints of other mandos clients. > If the initrd file was compromised, it would be very easy to to set > up a rogue mandos server in order to snoop the other client's disk > encryption passwords. I do not see how this would be possible. If someone got a copy of /etc/mandos/clients.conf, it would *not* get them the disk encryption passwords unless they *also* got the seckey.txt from the client. Sure, this is bad, and we will fix this right away, but I do not think this is a "root security hole". It cannot be exploited unless there is *also* a root compromise or a hardware seizure on *both* the server and the client - i.e. no worse than without disk encryption, at least. And if only *one* of the server or client is compromised, there is no problem. It is *not* possible to "snoop" a client's disk encryption password by being a "rogue" Mandos server. The Mandos server receives nothing except the client's public key, and a public key never made an attacker any happier. If you think I'm wrong, please explain in a little more detail how an attack would be constructed with this bug in place. Surprise. That is not a backport bit a OOo - and that with a newer shared-mime-info. Did you try using a newer shared-mime-info, too? Bug#551743: udevd spawns numerous processes and eats up almost all CPU time
Package: udev Version: 146-5 Severity: normal I can confirm this also happens on the armel architecture, with the stock kernel (2.6.22.18), and started as Torsten mentioned above as part of a routine upgrade (in my case, on 21 Oct, having not done one for a few days). What differs is that even after killing all the 'udevd --daemon' processes, if I start up a single one, it is OK for a while, then relapses into the same behaviour. Also, the kernel log contained: Oct 21 20:28:23 sheeva kernel: udev: missing sysfs features; please update the kernel or disable the kernel's CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED option; udev may fail to work correctly Hope this helps # top 2949 root 21 -4 2448 952 496 R 98.3 0.2 1:06.70 udevd ... # ps ax | grep [u]devd | wc -l 63 # ps ax 2949 ?R
Bug#551871: closed by Rene Engelhard (Re: Bug#551871: lp-solve: README.Debian outdated)
Hi Rene, Thanks for your quick answer. > There is in liblpsolve55-dev. As is proper library packaging, > headers are in a -dev package, not in the package containing binaries/ > the shared lib (actually, liblpsolve55.so should be in it's own package, too > but it's not properly SO-versioned, so..) Very sorry for this invalid bug report. I didn't find the -dev package by apt-cache search lp-solve and assumed it to be nonexistant.
