Bug#525358: Better testcase, --exclude-dir only works with a REGEX.
Thanks for the advice. Just changing the option name, but using the old pattern syntax, didn't work in all cases, though. I created a better testcase: # mkdir -p /tmp/clamtest/test1 /tmp/clamtest/kde-htest # mkdir -p /clamtest/test1 # touch /tmp/clamtest/test1/clamtest.test1.sample.file # cp /tmp/kde-htest/konqueror-crash-Gpj9Ca.log /tmp/clamtest/kde-htest/ # touch /clamtest/test1/clamtest.test1.sample.file # touch /clamtest/test1/junk # clamscan -r --exclude-dir=//clamtest/ /tmp /clamtest /tmp/clamtest/tmp.clamtest.sample.file: Empty file /tmp/clamtest/kde-htest/konqueror-crash-Gpj9Ca.log: OK /tmp/clamtest/tmp/temp.clamtest.tmp.sample.file: OK /tmp/.X0-lock: OK /clamtest/test1/clamtest.test1.sample.file: Empty file /clamtest/test1/junk: Empty file So just changing from --exclude to --exclude-dir, using the original syntax for PATT of // to indicate a root directory doesn't work. Later Internet search on --exclude-dir turned up http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/redhat-fedora-linux-help/56093-clam-av.html which shows the Fedora version of clamscan --help saying that the syntax is --exclude-dir=REGEX I tested this and found that it works: # clamscan -r --exclude-dir=^/clamtest/ /tmp /clamtest /tmp/clamtest/tmp.clamtest.sample.file: Empty file /tmp/clamtest/kde-htest/konqueror-crash-Gpj9Ca.log: OK /tmp/clamtest/tmp/temp.clamtest.tmp.sample.file: OK /tmp/.X0-lock: OK /clamtest: Excluded So sometime between clamav 0.92.1 and 0.94.dfsg.2-1lenny2, the syntax for --exclude-dir=PATT (and related options) changed to require PATT to be a regular expression. Is there any chance of getting the man page and --help output changed to say REGEX instead of PATT? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#550564: apt: APT::Acquire::Translation not listed in the manpage
On Mon, Oct 19, 2009 at 10:27:03PM +0200, David Kalnischkies wrote: Hi David, sorry for the huge delay. Synopsis: This option can be used to define which languagecode apt will try to download for the Translations. The default value is environment which let apt at runtime choose a languagecode from LC_MESSAGES, for me here with LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.UTF-8 it will use de - and will try to download Translation-de from the archives. Your false setting forces apt to try to download Translation-false -- which doesn't exist, so it has maybe the desired effect, but true will also not work (or not in a way someone could expect)... Practicaly I've set it to none for which in turn there is a check in apt-pkg/indexfile.cc. So at least I didn't just dream about the possibility to disable the translation download. ;) This should be documented, yes, but the APT team intend to deprecate this configuration-option in favor of a new and more general setting to support also multiply Translation downloads which seems to be needed to get the ball rolling in the Removing long desc from Package files [0] again - but as this change is an abi-break (best would be also an api-break) the APT team wants to collect a few of these breakers before breaking unstable for a few days... reasonable, doesn't it? Bug#553542: openafs-modules-dkms: postinst of -dkms package too naive
Philipp Kaluza pk+d...@yomu.de writes: since DKMS has been announced as the new blessed way to build out-of-tree modules, I thought I'd give it a spin. However, when the appropriate linux-headers are not installed, installing openafs-modules-dkms fails pretty ungracefully: | Setting up openafs-modules-dkms (1.4.11+dfsg-4) ... | | Creating symlink /var/lib/dkms/openafs/1.4.11/source - | /usr/src/openafs-1.4.11 | | DKMS: add Completed. | | Error! Your kernel source for kernel 2.6.30-2-686 cannot be found at | /lib/modules/2.6.30-2-686/build or /lib/modules/2.6.30-2-686/source. | You can use the --kernelsourcedir option to tell DKMS where it's located. So far so good, it tells me roughly what it's missing. Yeah, unfortunately there's no good way to express the correct dependency. But after installing linux-headers-2.6.30-2-686, i see this: | Setting up openafs-modules-dkms (1.4.11+dfsg-4) ... | | Error! DKMS tree already contains: openafs-1.4.11 | You cannot add the same module/version combo more than once. | dpkg: error processing openafs-modules-dkms (--configure): | subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 3 I think this should fall back more gracefully - possibly by removing the module from DKMS' list if the automatic build fails. Or removing it before adding it again when it's reconfigured. Looking over /etc/dkms/template-dkms-mkdeb/debian, it seems the new style source package template outsources all this to a central /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst file (installed by dkms, ofcourse) - which would handle the problem gracefully. I'm going to hold off on using this for right now since I want to be sure that the package will work with older versions of dkms, but I'll probably do that down the road. In the meantime, I read over the code prior to that central file and double-checked what I was doing against it, and it looks like it just removes the module if it was already added. Code to do that will be in the next version. The patch is attached and fixes both outstanding RC issues: - the lack of a required manpage was due to an implicit po4a translation threshold (I presume it was not there before): you might want to tune per-page threshold, but note that some include files (e.g. the license statement) will most likely _always_ need a threshold of 0 - the missing build-dep on po-debconf was actually missing Lintian complains about various other packaging issues, but I haven't fixed more of them to avoid being too intrusive with this NMU. Bug#554349: apt: Method rred has died unexpectedly!
tags 554349 + confirmed thanks Hello Faheem Mitha all other co-bug-reporters :) First of all: Thanks for the report! I have currently no time to dig into it a bit deeper, (hopefully i can do it tonight or tomorrow) but my first guess is an overflow of an internal variable: apt-get update -o Debug::pkgAcquire::RRed=1 -qq results in 65,442 lines of output which is near the value of a signed integer (65,535). A patch of this size (~9 MB) is a bit uncommon as it is bigger than the complete download of the new file. It would be good if APT could detect it... we will see. :) As a workaround you can disable pdiffs temporary with apt-get update -o Acquire::Pdiffs=false Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen, David DonKult Kalnischkies -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#554391: rhythmbox: Podcast-Feed update fails without reason
Package: rhythmbox Version: 0.12.5-1 Severity: normal Hello. Updating podcast-feeds in rhythmbox failes from time to time without giving any reason. Right now updating following URL: http://podcast.wdr.de/radio/leonardo.xml fails. In podcast browser the last available episode is from Friday. The episodes from Monday and Tuesday are still missing, but they are available in the XML. Restarting rhythmbox did not help. I expect that today or tomorrow the update will be successfull and show the new episode of the day, but the Monday and Tuesday episodes will still be missing. Any hints howto debug this problem? Bug#554364: udev creates broken initrd
Package: udev Version: 146-6 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Using update-initramfs on my system running on a Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook with udev-146 breaks the initrd. When booting, all seems normal until sd and sr attached the devices. After that point nothing happens. The system is running since e. g. plugging in an USB device produces some more output, but the boot process does not go on. Normally the next lines would be done. followed by Begin: Mounting root filesystem. Bug#507755: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the setserial package
Dear maintainer of setserial and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the setserial Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl ja nl pl pt pt_BR ru sv tr vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: da pl If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the setserial package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, November 10, 2009. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Thursday, October 29, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Wednesday, November 04, 2009 : send this notice Tuesday, November 10, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Wednesday, November 11, 2009 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Wednesday, November 18, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: setser...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2008-04-28 09:20+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. This is the first joint bug report I've filed, and I've been using Debian and filing bug reports since 2001. :-) Thanks for your bugreport. Bug#553211: /sbin/dhclient3: dhclient kills root filesystem on network
Andrew Pollock wrote: tags 553211 + moreinfo thanks On Thu, Oct 29, 2009 at 06:24:22PM +0100, Michal Suchanek hramr...@centrum.cz wrote: Package: dhcp3-client Version: 3.1.1-6+lenny3 Severity: normal File: /sbin/dhclient3 I am building debian-live images which boot form the network. For this to work the network is first initialized and the root filesystem mounted in in initramfs and then dhclient is started as normal from initscripts to manage lease renewal. The most common boot failure (other than the root filesystem not being on the specified server) is dhclient fumbling the network setup. dhclient runs external programs and scritps while the network is not fully configured. This cannot work because the programs are on an external server and they have to be fetched from there over the network. This requires that the IP address, routing (default route) and resolv.conf are in a working state every time dhclient attempts to run anything. A working state is either the state before dhclient started or the state after it is finished setting up the network. I wrote a script that moves dhcp3 enter hooks to exit hooks which seemed to resolve most issues but this time I built a new image and tried to boot it in a network different from the server subnet and it would fail with default route unset. I don't understand what your bugreport is about. What exactly is at fault and what do you need changed? If you just need basic networking configured from within your initramfs, maybe look at ipconfig from klibc-utils That works flawlessly. However, when dhclient starts from the normal networking initscripts it kills the network if - dhclient enter hooks exist or - the client is not on the same subnet as the server that provides the root filesystem I can disable dhclient but then I won't get lease renewal. This could work when I have control over the dhcp server and configure it to support this behaviour but in general this is not how dhcp should work. Bug#554194: ifupdown virtual package name and mass-filing (if accepted)
also sprach Wouter Verhelst wou...@debian.org [2009.11.04.0230 +0100]: Since to me the point of this exercise is so that I can usefully put ipcfg into the archive, and since ipcfg does not actually support /etc/network/interfaces, I'd say that should not be part of the interface. Hehe, but interface definitions usually describe the status quo from the users' perspective, not the state of development of a new tool aiming interface compatibility. Gosh, I wish the ISO 9000 specs worked that way! ;) It *is* questionable how mucn /e/n/i is part of the interface though. I do have code to support /etc/network/if-*.d/*, though I consider that a temporary hack so that the code would be useful sooner rather than later. It also doesn't work yet ;-) Okay. I definitely think the hooks are part of the interface that we need to support in any network configuration tool. Especially the hooks are integral to a lot of other packages that depend on ifupdown. I'd say that's part of any Debian network-config-tool interface. Basically, the interface that I'd like to see is tool that can bring up a given interface as configured by the user. E.g., if ifplugd calls ifup eth0, it should not care which implementation of ifup is being called to actually bring the interface up. Yes. But there are tools that will call it with --verbose, or with --all. I think we agree anyway. Depends: (...), ifupdown (= 0.6.8+nmu3) | network-config-tool, (...) because this is a matter of we need at least this version of ifupdown to work properly rather than we absolutely need ifupdown; after all, it's ifupdown or ipcfg that calls dhclient, not the other way around. That does seem weird and should not be needed, indeed. Bug#553211: /sbin/dhclient3: dhclient kills root filesystem on network
tags 553211 + moreinfo thanks On Thu, Oct 29, 2009 at 06:24:22PM +0100, Michal Suchanek hramr...@centrum.cz wrote: Package: dhcp3-client Version: 3.1.1-6+lenny3 Severity: normal File: /sbin/dhclient3 I am building debian-live images which boot form the network. If you just need basic networking configured from within your initramfs, maybe look at ipconfig from klibc-utils -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Given that the copyright file states the following, it may not be obvious what the bug is here: Almost components are licensed under GNU GPL2. See the file /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL2. Bug#510801: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the cpu package
Dear maintainer of cpu and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the cpu Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. The package is currently translated to: cs de es fr it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the cpu package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, November 10, 2009. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Friday, October 30, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. I believe many packages will have the some problem, so potentially there is a better way to deal with it than patching each and every package. If debian packages doesn't have to support cross-compilation per the debian packaging policy, maybe patching packages isn't the right solution. Also, it seems to me that the patch isn't generally the right thing, there are plenty of cross-compilation targets where you _can_ run the binary on the host architecture (i686 on amd64, windows via wine, etc). I suspect we may just commit your patch because it isn't much work, but I wanted to raise these concerns nonetheless. /Simon here, since it requires executing binaries for the host architecture. I've tried on 2.6.26-2-amd64 /bin/sh is bash 3.2-5 Sorry , I cannot use another kernel now, this is our main production server. Well, I really don't know, where the problem might be, so I'll stick to this patch for now, it works for me. We have some filtering of smtp port based on results from amavis and 554 from postfix, we have around 100-200 hosts banned in this jail (for 30 minutes) all day, I think it filtres lots of spam - I can send it as some wishlist bug - but i think it's based on some filter I have downloaded somewhere, so I don't remember licence Libor Dne úterý 03 Listopad 2009 22:09:10 Yaroslav Halchenko napsal(a): Patch is working, but i can't use action_mw (output goes like this --- 2009-11-03 21:04:02,138 fail2ban.actions.action: ERROR printf %b Subject: [Fail2Ban] cyrus: started From: Fail2Ban fail2ban well -- that is what the patch you've applied accomplished unfortunately :-/ since the mailing command is a multiline printf command. imho instead of that patch I would simple tune up the action for banning -- just add sleep 1 (or sleep 0.1 if system has that recent sleep ;)) after each command and see how that helps or may be alternatively just placing all commands on 1 line with ; between them -- so they should start as a one command (you said that system tolerated that fine) All commands in one line work ok from command line. interesting -- thanks for checking Sequence is also ok. Fail2ban launches actions in threads? to say the truth -- I don't know exactly... from what I know, it just calls system() from stdlib, which should call /bin/sh -c '.' I still think that the issue is deeper underground (iptables return before actually completing modification of the table etc) although myself could not replicate it on none of boxes (biefie enough: 8 cores, 64GB RAM etc) with smth like for f in {1..100}; do /bin/sh -c iptables -N fail2ban-proftpd; iptables -A fail2ban-proftpd -j RETURN; iptables -I INPUT -p tcp -m multiport --dports ftp,ftp-data,ftps,ftps-data -j fail2ban-proftpd; iptables -D INPUT -p tcp -m multiport --dports ftp,ftp-data,ftps,ftps-data -j fail2ban-proftpd; iptables -F fail2ban-proftpd; iptables -X fail2ban-proftpd; done now the question -- what is your /bin/sh? ;) could you try different kernel? Bug#508987: Patch for the l10n upload of pdns
Dear maintainer of pdns, On Wednesday, October 28, 2009 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to upload a NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial notice sent on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of the l10n update round. That time has come. To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU. Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it. Bug#531992: URL wraping - someone got it working?
Hi, did someone succeed in getting wraped and formated URLs in any document? Background is that I tried to reproduce Debian bug #531992 [1]. The Break links over lines checkbox in the document settings is activated and the 'breaklinks' setting is set in the tex export. So I suspect some problems with my toolchain. It would be nice to know if someone ever got it working and if yes which toolchain he used e.g. the texlive version and which pdf creation mechanism. I'm still on texlive 2007 and tried dvipdfm, pdflatex and ps2pdf. Tried the usual article class and the koma classes so far, none worked. What did work was using an ERT and the breakurl package as described in http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=breaklinks. Because everything is already supposedly installed in mozilla/dist by the export rule, which is applied during the build. So it looks like mozilla/security/nss/cmd/smimetools/rules.mk lacks a export rule. Though it looks like using make install would not require to patch that file. Bug#252896: fixed in fam 2.7.0-14
I am driving also a server with old-stable (etch). At this time it is up for 124 days without any problem. I could never notice a problem with famd in old-stable for a long time. But the reason is maybe that there is no KDE running. It seems that this bug only occurs when there is heavy I/O load on the hard disk. Maybe there are some more applications in KDE which are using famd. But it is now really time to release this fix in the stable versions. Thank you.
