Bug#560781: (require :package) no longer works for CLC-managed packages
Package: common-lisp-controller Version: 6.19 When I upgraded CLC from 6.17 to 6.20, neither (require 'cffi) nor (asdf:oos 'asdf:compile-op :cffi) work anymore, even though the cl-cffi package is installed. Looking at the changelog, it seems like this was an intentional change in 6.19, Make clc only active in clc calls. This should increase the compatibility with clbuild and friends But I don't really understand what the intended usage is now? So it's compatible with clbuild...by not working by itself anymore? I don't get it. Am I expected to have to explicitly call clc:clc-require now? I kinda feel like I must be missing something obvious, since nobody else has reported this bug yet. If this was intentional, and it is required that I call clc:clc-require, it is really quite unfortunate, as it means the debian packaged lisp software no longer works normally like custom-installed asdf packages do...and I'm not about to change all my locally-installed packages to call clc-require...so this makes the debian CL-* packages seem basically useless and broken. At the very least, the documentation needs updating if things are going to stay this way, since it still says: - a user wants to use a system-wide library. (asdf:oos 'asdf:compile-op :library) will load the system at /usr/share/common-lisp/systems/library.asd that will use the source at /usr/share/common-lisp/source/library fasls will be placed in /var/cache/common-lisp-controller/userid/implementation/library/ And that's not the case -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#560214: Bug #560214: loop-aes-source: Fails to compile with 2.6.32.
The changelog for version 3.2h says Worked around block layer interface breakage on linux-2.6.32-rc kernels., so I would say there's a good chance that this is fixed in that release. Bug#560784: wagon-webdav missing
Package: libwagon-java Version: 1.0-beta-6-2 Severity: wishlist Hello, in /usr/share/doc/libwagon-java/README.Debian I read that wagon-webdav was not packaged because, among other things, it depends on some non-free bits (JackRabbit JCR). Is JCR distributable in non-free? You could make a separate libwagon-webdav- java package in contrib :-) I'd need it for geowebcache, a package I'm preparing (but not ITPed yet). Bug#557199: [Debian-med-packaging] r-cran-epir_0.9-19-1_i386.changes REJECTED
Le Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 07:29:48PM +, Barry deFreese a écrit : I am rejecting r-cran-epir for the following reasons: * Upstream tarball does not include full copy of GPLv2 license and none of the headers explicitly indicate a license. * doc/epiR.pdf has not corresponding source files to recreate it at build time. * Also the data/*.Rdata files appear to be binary. I don't know enough about them to make an iformed decision on if those can be built from source or if they are in their native format. Dear Barry, FTP team, and Debian Med team, doc/epiR.pdf can be generated by the command ’R CMD Rd2pdf r-cran-epir-0.9-22’. I also looked at the .Rdata files. These are data files in binary format for testing or example purposes. Each of these datasets are described in the accompaning documentation, that is reproduced in the PDF file. For instance, the source of epi.epidural.RData stems from the two following academic articles: * Deeks JJ, Altman DG, Bradburn MJ (2001). Statistical methods for examining heterogeneity and combining results from several studies in meta-analysis. In: Egger M, Davey Smith G, Altman * D (eds). Systematic Review in Health Care Meta-Analysis in Context. British Medical Journal, London, pp. 291 - 299. The epi.*.RData files can be loaded, manipulated and saved using /usr/bin/R. I believe that this makes them a preferred form of modification for R users. For the missing COPYING file, while I am very confident that there is no doubt this package is licensed under the GPL version 2, I note that most other R packages do indeed have a COPYING or a LICENSE file, and that therefore it would be worthwile asking a clarification to the authors. Bug#560764: dpkg: format '3.0 (quilt)' patches fail but succeed with pure quilt
Raphael Hertzog hert...@debian.org writes: forcemerge 557667 560764 thanks On Sat, 12 Dec 2009, Jari Aalto wrote: Version: 1.15.5.3 Please test with the latest version before reporting new bugs. Sure. Building with debuild returns a failure but with quilt it succeeds. See attached archive for use with testing. This has been fixed in 1.15.5.4 and is related to that: Applying patch 50-jwmrc--removed-menus.patch patching file example.jwmrc Hunk #1 succeeded at 8 with fuzz 2 (offset 1 line). Hunk #2 succeeded at 29 (offset 1 line). Fuzz is not allowed in patchs in 3.0 (quilt). This would be contradictory to what quilt(1) itself uses. If patches can be applied, and they succeed, it would be counter productive to always re-adjust them just for format 3.0 (quilt). Please allow fuzz, because re-adjusting patches after every minor upstream change would not be sensible. Bug#556948: After recent upgrade the volume was 100% for every song in a playlist
Definitely not a hardware issue, as audio had been working just fine with pulseaudio on this machine for the last 5 or 6 months. As far as this packages relevance to audio problems, the first manifestation of the symptoms for most audio problems is the volume controls somehow getting screwed up. It worked yesterday, the day before, and every day before that for as long as I can remember, then after yesterday's updates, the volume control keeps jumping up to 100%. One can actually see it happening. The gnome-media packages may not ultimately be at fault, but the user interacts with them the most so they are going to take the hit. If my volume control jumps around like a rabbit and ALWAYS starts out muted (how long has the volume muted bug been open? Six months? A year?), no matter what other components are involved, it is a problem with gnome-volume-control-applet. --- On Thu, 12/10/09, Josselin Mouette j...@debian.org wrote: From: Josselin Mouette j...@debian.org Subject: Re: Bug#556948: After recent upgrade the volume was 100% for every song in a playlist To: Dominique Brazziel dbrazz...@snet.net, 556...@bugs.debian.org Date: Thursday, December 10, 2009, 2:09 PM Le jeudi 10 décembre 2009 à 09:43 -0500, Dominique Brazziel a écrit : Now, after changing the output from pulse to ALSA to try and fix things, (which worked), then killing gnome-volume-control-applet and adding it back to the panel, change the output back to pulse, NO SOUND. gnome-volume-control-applet + pulse = RECURRING NIGHTMARE. Bug#558781: Patch for #558781
Hello, I came with the attached patch. But, well, it seems a bit tricky to me. What do you (Martin, Raphael) think about it? I patched test/create-delete.test to match the output on my system, and I believe this chunk is quite safe. Regarding test/delete.test, it all starts failing at line 80: $ quilt delete test3 This test expects a permission denied, I suppose because of the chmod at line 78. But, being built as root, quilt can delete any directory, and everything down there starts failing. I had to remove two tests, because they kept failing (I suppose because the commands output'ed nothing, and even if I matched against ~ (foo)?, that didn't work). I don't think this patch is clean enough to be sent upstream (thus I'm not even tagging the bug with patch) -- do you have any suggestion? Thank you, David -- . ''`. Note that xdo.h does not contain any declaration for symbol_map currently (and we're not shipping xdo_util.h with libxdo-dev), so applications building against it have no way of knowing that symbol_map is even available (keynav only knows about it because it happens to have the same upstream author). snip 3) have libxdo export a new function, (named perhaps xdo_symbol_map()) that does a lookup in the static symbol_map on behalf of the caller. I'll look into this problem this weekend. Using a function would probably simplify the consumers of libxdo that need key map data. So, #3 probably. End result will be libxdo exporting something like xdo_keysym_to_char(), same for symbol_map, and not distributing xdo_util.h with any package as it won't be needed. Thanks again for reporting these things - the old implementation (ship xdo with keynav) was to aid in building where no packages were provided. I am quite happy to move away from that implementation to one that supports packaging models better. :) -Jordan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Your package hasn't even been tried (since they are in BD-Uninstallable state) because the BD: libudev-dev is unconditional, while it only exists on Linux architectures. Please exclude it on non-Linux ports. Once the attached patch applied, your package builds fine at least on kfreebsd-i386. There might be installation issues due to udev rules or so, but that's another story. Nevertheless, I typed configfile /boot/grub/grub.cfg, and at the first time, it loaded the menu and I could simply boot the system. I reproduced the action a second time, and when I wanted to use the completion (with tab) to complete grub.cfg, I saw some bizarre characters at the end of the line after cfg and was forced to delete them to load the configfile. Bug#441989: taking over libcrypt-dsa-perl
Hi, libcrypt-dsa is depends upon Pari source at run time, Please check in pkg-perl's svn repository for that. The ITP from 441989 has been open for over two years now. Of course, if you want to maintain it, you should go ahead, i don't mean to hijack; it just looks like it might be abandoned at the moment. i know it used to depend on Math::PARI, but that has been cleaned up as of upstream version 0.13 (2005.05.26), and it now is relatively easy to build and install. Bug#560730: seahorse-plugins: Seahorse should be started from non-GNOME X sessions (such as xfce4)
Carl Worth wrote: Package: seahorse-plugins Version: 2.28.1-2 Severity: important I recently switched from running GNOME to running xfce4 instead, and when I did so I found that my email program no longer brought up the nice, graphical prompt for my GPG passphrase, (nor remembered it from one email to the next). I tracked the bug down to the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/60seahorse which says: if [ -n $GNOMERC ] [ -x $SEAHORSE ] [ -z $GPG_AGENT_INFO ]; then STARTUP=$SEAHORSE --execute $STARTUP fi This is the changelog snippet: seahorse (2.22.1-2) unstable; urgency=low [ Josselin Mouette ] * seahorse.Xsession: only start seahorse-agent for GNOME sessions. Closes: #443115, #472641. To workaround this for now, I kludged things by adding another file in the same directory (55xfce) that simply does: # Set GNOMERC so that we get seahorse within an XFCE session GNOMERC=1 With this, seahorse and my email program now work exactly as I want. Obviously my kludge involves a lie, so that's not desireable. A proper fix would be to simply start seahorse in any X session for which everything it requires is available. Is that a matter of simply removing the '[ -n $GNOMERC ]' from the above? Yes, but that's not a good solution for everyone... Or is there some capability that both GNOME and xfce4 are providing (that perhaps some other session would not) that should be checked for? Before enabling it again in Xfce I'd like to hear the opionion of the Xfce maintainers. Cheers, Emilio signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#316549: Please consider as 'time-daemon' alternative
Helo! It's been some time since this bug/wishlist was filed, and since then more packages have to workaround the situation in which 'ntp' package is not part of the time-daemon virtual package by adding 'ntp | time-daemon', instead of just Depending/Recommending/Sugesting the 'time-daemon' virtual package. Bug#391841: debian-policy: Remove time-daemon
Hello Peter, I perfectly understand what you mean, but as you also mentioned, you are referring to ntpdate as if it was possible to be in conflict with any software provided by time-daemon, while note being a daemon anyway. I consider that the description is both, relatively generic and straight forward to a function or service, which in my opinion, in this case is the main goal. Let's consider a very very plain and simple shell script (or in-your-favorite-scripting-language ;-) ), which runs into a loop and cycles a ntpdate software checking for time deviation, wouldn't it be a candidate for a 'time-daemon' package provider? I do consider it will perfectly suit as it servers the purpose of getting a system time-synced, Ok Ok, in a completely roughly fashion, but it somehow does. Please reconsider the remotion of this virtual-package. Bug#496630: [RFC] provide a quilt clean command
Hello people, while looking at bugs filed in Debian, I stumbled across please provide a quilt clean command: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496630 On Tuesday 26 August 2008 11:36:21, Gerfried Fuchs wrote: Hi! It would be more convenient if quilt would be able to clean up after itself. That is, removing the .pc directory again (and possibly other autogenerated/cached files). Having to work around that with make file magic or other means is IMHO the wrong approach and errorsome: If the autogenerated files change or others are produced, the build system should know, but external magic doesn't. So ... please give us a proper clean command. :) I might be missing something, but doesn't quilt only touch things inside .pc/? Thus, the magic involved in cleaning up just boils down to quilt pop -f -a ; rm -rf .pc/ [1] Is that right? Kindly, David [1] given a .pc/.quiltrc does not exist, in which case that one should probably be preserved, and I agree a quilt clean might be handy here. -- . ''`. Bug#537414: please default to 1.8 interface for hdf5-1.8.x
Hi! This is still present in 1.8.3-2.1 and the fix is simply to remove the line #define H5_USE_16_API_DEFAULT 1 from /usr/include/H5pubconf.h, Or surround it with #if !defined(H5_I_REALLY_DO_NOT_WANT_OLD_API) #define H5_USE_16_API_DEFAULT 1 #endif This would give those users who, like me, have software written for 1.8 API, the possibility to compile it without altering the code. My example is the SAMRAI library, which is smart enough to support both 1.6 and 1.8, by #ifdefing stuff like this: #if (H5_VERS_MAJOR1) || ((H5_VERS_MAJOR==1)(H5_VERS_MINOR 6)) But it trusts 1.8 library to use 1.8 API! Or at least that there would be a way to make it use 1.8 syntax without altering the code or libhdf5's headers. I would also suggest bumping up the severity: this breaks unrelated software, albeit none from Debian that I am aware, so I am not sure what would be appropriate. -Juha -- --- | Juha Jäykkä, ju...@iki.fi | | http://www.utu.fi/~juolja/| --- signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

We've switched to 4.4 as default gcc a few days ago, and the buildds are also running it already. I've given back the packages that were known to fail, they should get build again soon. They were all succesful, except for wireshark which seems to be a known issue with the package and not alpha specific. So it's my understanding that PR8603 got applied to the 4.3.4, 4.4.2 and the 4.5 branches which caused PR42113 and that that one is now fixed in the current 4.4.2 and 4.5 versions, but tht 4.3.4-6 still has this issue.
