Bug#601174: installation-reports: Mostly success with XFCE netinst 2010-10-19-5
Quoting Daniel Dickinson (dan...@cshore.neomailbox.net): The first issue is that the console-setup(?) asked what do do with the keymap (keep, set, leave as it, etc) which was confusing since I had set the language an keyboard earlier We should document this in the errata, maybe. There are apparently situations where a second uestion is asked about keyboard The second issue was that SAMBA requested a WORKGROUP name. Well, that's expected behaviour. Bug#592171: Patch for the l10n upload of mysql-5.1
Dear maintainer of mysql-5.1, On Tuesday, October 19, 2010 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to upload a NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial notice sent on Saturday, October 09, 2010. We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of the l10n update round. That time has come. To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU. I don't see a haskell-happs-util in unstable anymore, so this has been taken care of. As for haskell-syb-with-class I wonder what the equivalence of template haskell and ghci is. E.g. you could build-depend on ghci to only build on architectures where ghci is available, no? yes, if there were a (virtual) ghci package. This is planned for the next ghc release. In fact, I am suggesting even more virtual packages (ghci, ghc-th, ghc-threaded) in case the ghci ~ th equivalency stops to hold some time, and for the packages needing a threaded RTS. But for unstable, this is not yet in place. Bug#601187: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: Please apply patch for shared I/O region support
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-26 Severity: wishlist This is a followup from bug 597820. I would like to get the watchdog support for f71889fg with a squeeze kernel. The support for that chip isn't yet upstream, and I understand that you wouldn't want to include it (yet). However, it would be much easier for me if I only had to rebuild the module after each security release instead of the kernel, and this means it would be nice if the squeeze kernel supported shared I/O region for that module to be buildable and useable. Please note that there are patches against hwmon/f71882fg.c in bug 597820 that would be better applied, too, but it's not that much a problem for me to patch that module as well, though if someone builds the watchdog driver without modifying the hwmon one, they will have troubles. Please also note the patch makes the ABI check script barf, but there is technically no function signature change. Attached here is the backported patch (trivial context difference in the header file). Thanks Mike commit 85a6dce87df872e22fbcd4c0f7c66fafc16a531c Author: Alan Cox a...@linux.intel.com Date: Mon Mar 29 19:38:00 2010 +0200 resource: shared I/O region support SuperIO devices share regions and use lock/unlock operations to chip select. We therefore need to be able to request a resource and wait for it to be freed by whichever other SuperIO device currently hogs it. Right now you have to poll which is horrible. Add a MUXED field to IO port resources. If the MUXED field is set on the resource and on the request (via request_muxed_region) then we block until the previous owner of the muxed resource releases their region. This allows us to implement proper resource sharing and locking for superio chips using code of the form enable_my_superio_dev() { request_muxed_region(0x44, 0x02, superio:watchdog); outb() ..sequence to enable chip } disable_my_superio_dev() { outb() .. sequence of disable chip release_region(0x44, 0x02); } Signed-off-by: Giel van Schijndel m...@mortis.eu Signed-off-by: Alan Cox a...@linux.intel.com Signed-off-by: Jesse Barnes jbar...@virtuousgeek.org diff --git a/include/linux/ioport.h b/include/linux/ioport.h index 83aa812..140b00d 100644 --- a/include/linux/ioport.h +++ b/include/linux/ioport.h @@ -50,6 +50,7 @@ struct resource_list { #define IORESOURCE_STARTALIGN 0x0004 /* start field is alignment */ #define IORESOURCE_MEM_64 0x0010 +#define IORESOURCE_MUXED 0x0040 /* Resource is software muxed */ #define IORESOURCE_EXCLUSIVE 0x0800 /* Userland may not map this resource */ #define IORESOURCE_DISABLED0x1000 @@ -136,7 +137,8 @@ static inline unsigned long resource_type(struct resource *res) } /* Convenience shorthand with allocation */ -#define request_region(start,n,name) __request_region(ioport_resource, (start), (n), (name), 0) +#define request_region(start,n,name) __request_region(ioport_resource, (start), (n), (name), 0) +#define request_muxed_region(start,n,name) __request_region(ioport_resource, (start), (n), (name), IORESOURCE_MUXED) #define __request_mem_region(start,n,name, excl) __request_region(iomem_resource, (start), (n), (name), excl) #define request_mem_region(start,n,name) __request_region(iomem_resource, (start), (n), (name), 0) #define request_mem_region_exclusive(start,n,name) \ diff --git a/kernel/resource.c b/kernel/resource.c index fb11a58..a0db758 100644 --- a/kernel/resource.c +++ b/kernel/resource.c @@ -15,6 +15,7 @@ #include linux/spinlock.h #include linux/fs.h #include linux/proc_fs.h +#include linux/sched.h #include linux/seq_file.h #include linux/device.h #include linux/pfn.h @@ -601,6 +602,8 @@ resource_size_t resource_alignment(struct resource *res) * release_region releases a matching busy region. */ +static DECLARE_WAIT_QUEUE_HEAD(muxed_resource_wait); + /** * __request_region - create a new busy resource region * @parent: parent resource descriptor @@ -613,6 +616,7 @@ struct resource * __request_region(struct resource *parent, resource_size_t start, resource_size_t n, const char *name, int flags) { + DECLARE_WAITQUEUE(wait, current); struct resource *res = kzalloc(sizeof(*res), GFP_KERNEL); if (!res) @@ -637,7 +641,15 @@ struct resource * __request_region(struct resource *parent, if (!(conflict-flags IORESOURCE_BUSY)) continue; } - + if (conflict-flags flags IORESOURCE_MUXED) { + add_wait_queue(muxed_resource_wait, wait); + write_unlock(resource_lock); + set_current_state(TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE); + schedule(); +

Shouldn't the bug even be grave severity? After all, it renders systems unbootable. Package: debian-cd Version: 3.1.3 Tags: patch User: debian-...@lists.debian.org UserTags: debian-edu In Debian Edu, we replace the image shown at the top of the graphical installer with our own. It would be nice if this was supported by debian-cd without a patch. This bug is critical for libraries or application which have to be built with GObject Introspection. Currently there's (at least) anjuta and glom packages which depend on libgda, but do not use GIR. There's upcoming Midgard2 Content Repository library: http://ftp-master.debian.org/new/midgard2-core_10.05.1.2-1.html which is built against libgda and GIR. It's in sid, but it'll trigger conflicts in case of backports. Besides, many developers who build applications on top of libgda complains about this library, not being up to date in available official repositories. Libgda is the only one, open source library which provides common access to databases, and thus should be available with minimal amount of bugs. GIR itself is quite new and young technology, but there will be more and more applications which are built on top of it. Bug#601135: navit can't read my garmin img file
Hi Mouarf, Mouarf a écrit , Le 23/10/2010 19:20: I have a problem when I load a img garmin file on navit. I see abnormal caracteres and no map. Bug#601201: xserver-xorg-input-joystick: Reports bogus keycodes which lead to almost unusable DE
Package: xserver-xorg-input-joystick Version: 1:1.5.0-6 Severity: important Tags: experimental Justification: Makes desktop environment almost unusable. Dear X Strike Force, I've installed the joystick input driver yesterday alongside evdev (also from experimental). And that lead to an unusable desktop environment (KDE in my case). It seems like joystick is reporting key presses that didn't happen (the Joystick wasn't touched) or reported multiple events for keys on my keyboard. E.g. if I'd press the up arrow key in Konsole it would also report the down arrow, which lead to a constant switch between an empty line in the shell and the last entry. If I moved the mouse near the borders of the screen the virtual desktops would switch in an endless cycle until I moved the mouse back to the middle of the screen. Unfortunately nothing is logged to /var/log/Xorg.0.log, so I'm not entirely sure it's joystick, it might also be evdev which isn't coping well with joystick. Bug#601203: debian-cd: Recommended packages should be included recursively for apt to find
Package: debian-cd Version: 3.1.3 Tags: patch User: debian-...@lists.debian.org UserTags: debian-edu In Debian Edu, I have discovered that the set of packages installed when we install using our DVD is not the same set of packages installed when installing using the netinst CD. I've tracked down the cause, and it is the fact that the packages we want on the DVD do not get all their recommended packages added to the DVD, making apt fail to find all the packages it find when using the netinst CD. The NORECOMMENDS=0 setting in debian-cd only take effect for the packages directly listed in the task lists. Their recommended packages do not get their recommended packages included on the DVD. Bug#577661: Status of DSPAM in Debian
Hi Thomas, Le dimanche 24 oct. 2010 à 12:58:58 (+0800), Thomas Goirand a écrit : Hi, I've seen this: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=577661 and I'm very surprised that, after such a discussion in last April, there wasn't any new package for DSPAM in Debian. Julien, what's the status? After 6 months, you should have been able to upload a new package, at least in Experimental, no? As expressed in the bug report you mention, I would like to wait until 3.9.1 is released, which might never happen given the upstream development is stalled since Stevan's decision to put his work on DSPAM on hold, at least temporary. I am particulary concerned about a bug affecting the hash driver (the default backend in the Debian package), which is explained at [0]. As I see that many people seems to be interested in working on a DSPAM package, I was wondering if the time to do a collab-maint project has come, so that we aren't fixed to a single maintainer/uploader. There is already a pkg-dspam project on Alioth, most of the members of the team do not seem to have interest for it though. I have recently opened an RFH [1] for this package I cannot maintain alone, which also explains why nothing was uploaded for now. Thoms Preud'Homme recently joined the team and has already begin his work on the package. We might use DSPAM in my company (eg: GPLHost), as a replacement for Spamassassin that takes too much memory and CPU. If it works out well, then I will for sure give a hand for this package. You are welcome to join the project if you wish so. The package sources are in git [2]. Bug triaging needs to be done, as well as a general check of the package, as I have changed so many things since the previous upload… Note that these packages are already being testing by a bunch of users (including myself). Can anyone tells me why DSPAM is better than spamassassin? They do work in totally different ways. Check the DSPAM home page as well as the README file in the tarball for more details. Would I still need clamav if I run DSPAM (our understanding is that we would)? DSPAM is an antispam filter, not an antirus thing. However, DSPAM can call clamav for virus checking. How much memory DSPAM uses in a normal production server? It really depends on the way you deploy it, and on the scale of your server… Just as an example, I wrote a small blog entry when I switched from SA to DSPAM on my home server (in 2006), and a graphic shows how the memory use is different [3]. Bug#601140: consolekit: Should not claim xrdp sessions are local
OoO Pendant le journal télévisé du samedi 23 octobre 2010, vers 20:26, Petter Reinholdtsen p...@hungry.com disait : Package: consolekit Version: 0.4.1-4 Not quite sure if this is a bug in consolekit or xrdp, but the combination do not work as it should. I set up xrdp in Squeeze, and logged in via the RPD protocol using rdesktop from a remote machine. Then ran ck-list-sessions and can see that the session for my logged in user is claimed to be local: Session5: unix-user = '500' realname = 'test' seat = 'Seat4' session-type = '' active = FALSE x11-display = ':10.0' x11-display-device = '' display-device = '' remote-host-name = '' is-local = TRUE on-since = '2010-10-23T18:06:32.254503Z' login-session-id = '' I believe RPD logins should be considered non-local, to make sure services only available for local users are inaccessible for users logged in using RDP. This was using xrdp version 0.5.0~20100303cvs-6. I think the problem lies in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90consolekit which considers that when it is able to get a display number considers that you are a local user. Since you get a display number whatever you use a graphical session, this seems not the right thing to do. Maybe this script should also check for GetX11DisplayDevice which is a tty if we use a local session and which is empty otherwise. -- I AM NOT A DENTIST I AM NOT A DENTIST I AM NOT A DENTIST -+- Bart Simpson on chalkboard in episode 7F24 pgpuIsRqzXrr4.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#601003: slim does not set at_console permission
OoO En ce début d'après-midi nuageux du vendredi 22 octobre 2010, vers 14:32, je disais: After using slim as login manager, I am not considered as a local user anymore. ck-list-sessions tells me: is-local = FALSE Therefore, there is many things handled by policykit or dbus that I am not allowed to do. Maybe this is related to #476248. I am not familiar enough with this to tell. Since consolekit stuff is also handled by Xsession, it seems the problem lies in consolekit himself. I merge this bug with #597397. It seems that there is two bugs in this bug report: - the one reported by James which explicitely uses ck-launch-session - the one reported by Fernando and relayed by myself For the later bug, we rely on /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90consolekit. Reading carefully this script, I think that it does not work at all. The function is_on_console() returns 1 (which means false) when the user has a display string and 0 (which means true) otherwise. The function should returns 1 when the user has no display string. Therefore, when this was working with consolekit 0.4.1-4, the script has nothing to do with it. I did not test if everything works back when correcting the is_on_console() function but I suppose that this is not true since James is not able to be recognized as a local user despite invoking ck-launch-session directly. -- BOFH excuse #47: Complete Transient Lockout pgpgnF8FovTZl.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#582376: advice for syncevolution in squeeze

However, upstream has since brought to my attention (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=582376#31) that several fairly severe upstream have been fixed in more recent versions. I have looked at the first 3 or 4, and they do involve data loss. From a quick look through the list, most of them sound worth looking at and that they should be easily extractable as small targetted fixes. Some of the GUI changes - for instance, improved setup of devices, styling fix - don't immediately sound like they'd be appropriate right now. These are the ones which are relevant to make direct synchronization with phones useful. The same probably applies to some of the mentioned bug fixes: they are likely to depend on features introduced after beta 2 and thus I doubt that backporting them will be feasible. If 1.0 + bug fixes is not acceptable for Debian Squeeze, then I suggest that direct synchronization with phones gets disabled entirely in the Debian Squeeze build by turning off Bluetooth support. Users who want that need to find a backport of SyncEvolution. FWIW, I still think that 1.0 + bug fixes is the better choice for Squeeze. It has been in use for a while now and arguably is better than beta 2, with no known regressions whatsoever. -- Best Regards, Patrick Ohly The content of this message is my personal opinion only and although I am an employee of Intel, the statements I make here in no way represent Intel's position on the issue, nor am I authorized to speak on behalf of Intel on this matter. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. [Vincent Bernat] I think the problem lies in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90consolekit which considers that when it is able to get a display number considers that you are a local user. Since you get a display number whatever you use a graphical session, this seems not the right thing to do. Bug#601201: xserver-xorg-input-joystick: Reports bogus keycodes which lead to almost unusable DE
Hello Kai, Kai Wasserbäch deb...@carbon-project.org (24/10/2010): Package: xserver-xorg-input-joystick Version: 1:1.5.0-6 Severity: important Tags: experimental Justification: Makes desktop environment almost unusable. it'd be nice to use reportbug, so that we know more about your system. Running /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3/tmp/script.log and attaching its output would help. I've installed the joystick input driver yesterday alongside evdev (also from experimental). And that lead to an unusable desktop environment (KDE in my case). It seems like joystick is reporting key presses that didn't happen (the Joystick wasn't touched) or reported multiple events for keys on my keyboard. Out of curiosity, which joystick is it? E.g. if I'd press the up arrow key in Konsole it would also report the down arrow, which lead to a constant switch between an empty line in the shell and the last entry. If I moved the mouse near the borders of the screen the virtual desktops would switch in an endless cycle until I moved the mouse back to the middle of the screen. Does that also happen if you unplug your joystick? Unfortunately nothing is logged to /var/log/Xorg.0.log, so I'm not entirely sure it's joystick, it might also be evdev which isn't coping well with joystick. But I'd be happy to assist you in debugging this. You could compare what is shown in xev (so, X's view of stuff), and in evtest /dev/input/$your_input (kernel's view). It might make sense to compare both output, both with joystick plugged and unplugged. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Dear release team, I think my original request got caught in a race condition between me drafting it, getting the package uploaded (three weeks ago), letting it age and you requesting that all unblock requests go via the bts rather than directly to the mailing list. My original request was at: http://lists.debian.org/201010172314.51489.stuart+deb...@nanonanonano.net but is included below for your convenience. I hope that the extra delay in making this request via the bts isn't problematic. many thanks Stuart 8 --- Dear release team, I would like to request a freeze exception for version 0.8.3-1 of pyxplot to enter squeeze. It is primarily a bugfix release from upstream with a couple of slight changes to functionality. It would be great if squeeze users could have 0.8.3 rather than 0.8.2 to both fix these bugs and also to ensure that documentation on upstream's website is consistent with the behaviour in the Debian package in the case where functionality has changed. The package has gracefully aged in unstable for 13 days now. Thanks in advance for considering! regards Stuart Upstream changelog: 2010 Sep 15: PyXPlot 0.8.3 - @ macro expansion operator implemented. - assert command implemented. - for command behaviour changed such that for i=1 to 10 includes a final iteration with i=10. - Point types rearranged into a more logical order. - Improved support for newer Windows bitmap images. - Bugfix to the 'set unit preferred' command. - Binary not operator bugfixed. - Bugfix to handling of comma-separated horizontal datafiles. - Mathematical function finite() added. Bug#601201: xserver-xorg-input-joystick: Reports bogus keycodes which lead to almost unusable DE
Hello Cyril, Cyril Brulebois schrieb am 24.10.2010 14:05: Kai Wasserbäch deb...@carbon-project.org (24/10/2010): Package: xserver-xorg-input-joystick Version: 1:1.5.0-6 Severity: important Tags: experimental Justification: Makes desktop environment almost unusable. it'd be nice to use reportbug, so that we know more about your system. Running /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3/tmp/script.log and attaching its output would help. Well I used reportbug, but of course the joystick package was uninstalled at that time because it made my DE do crazy things. ;) Attached you'll find the (compressed) log of a manual run. Out of curiosity, which joystick is it? As you can see from the attached log: MS SideWinder Precision Pro (USB) Does that also happen if you unplug your joystick? No. You could compare what is shown in xev (so, X's view of stuff), and in evtest /dev/input/$your_input (kernel's view). It might make sense to compare both output, both with joystick plugged and unplugged. xev's output is attached, evtest reports: evtest: can't get version: Inappropriate ioctl for device (that is for the /dev/input/event and for the /dev/input/mouse devices, called via by-id).
