Dear all,

there also seems to be other problems with Message-ID, in particular
with the following one:
aanlkti=nvo4khrynaxzm1q3s3wtg_8u0tjwavs6xa...@mail.gmail.com.

The original message is http://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2010/10/msg00079.html

As you can see, the msg-id link generated in its answer does not work:

Bug#601174: installation-reports: Mostly success with XFCE netinst 2010-10-19-5

2010-10-24 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Daniel Dickinson (dan...@cshore.neomailbox.net):

The first issue is that the console-setup(?) asked what do do with the keymap
(keep, set, leave as it, etc) which was confusing since I had set the
 language an keyboard earlier

We should document this in the errata, maybe. There are apparently
situations where a second uestion is asked about keyboard

The second issue was that SAMBA requested a WORKGROUP name.

Well, that's expected behaviour. You did choose the File server
task, right?

Bug#601181: openscenegraph uses an embedded copy of vulnerable lib3ds

Package: libopenscenegraph7
Version: 2.4.0-1.1
Severity: important

openscenegraph uses an embedded copy of lib3ds 1.1. This version of lib3ds
is vulnerable to http://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2010-0280.
The desired outcome is that openscenegraph use the system wide lib3ds
library instead of the embedded copy.

Bug#592171: Patch for the l10n upload of mysql-5.1

2010-10-24 Thread Christian PERRIER

Dear maintainer of mysql-5.1,

On Tuesday, October 19, 2010 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to upload
a
NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial
notice sent on Saturday, October 09, 2010.

We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of
the l10n update round.

That time has come.

To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU.
Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it.

Bug#596105: Reassign bug from syncevolution to perl

I'm reassigning this to perl because perl script in question does not
use any external modules (other than 'encoding').

Thanks. I can reproduce the crash. It's a bit of a heisenbug as changing
just about anything makes it go away. It's still present in upstream
development branch, as of 5.13.6 or so.

I'll still try to get the test case smaller, dumping the 1500 lines
upstream is a bit much.

I left the severity at normal. Feel free to elevate of course :)

Normal seems about right to me.

Upstream would like to know if such a combination works with MSTC client

Bug#504592: Introduced description of g77-gfortran transition in Release Notes

Oh, then I misread the bug report. I will move that information to Lennys'

Bug#601186: horde3: only shows php deprecations and a warning - no actual operational parts

2010-10-24 Thread Phil Reynolds
Package: horde3
Version: 3.3.8+debian0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This is a similar problem to #572265 which was in php-log, but appears
to be happening again with horde3.

On attempting to call up the horde3 homepage, whether my configuration
or the supplied one, altered to allow configuration, is present, only
the following messages appear:

No operational parts of the horde3 framework appear. This resurfaced
when I installed squeeze, and whereas it may be in another package,
this is where it manifests, hence the report.

Bug#600190: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: btrfs filesystem df doesn't work because of missing ioctl

The btrfs tool, which is the canonical tool for btrfs handling, doesn't
have a useful output for btrfs filesystem df because the necessay ioctl
isn't available in 2.6.32. Would you consider adding it?
1406e4327be3a533a2b18582f715ce2cfbcf6804 is the relevant commit id.
 (7fde62bffb576d384ea49a3aed3403d5609ee5bc further modifies the ioctl
 function to buffer the output)

I can confirm backporting 1406e4327be3a533a2b18582f715ce2cfbcf6804
(attached) makes btrfs filesystem df work.

Btrfs: add a df ioctl for btrfs

df is a very loaded question in btrfs. This gives us a way to get the
per-space
usage information so we can tell exactly what is in use where. This will
help
us figure out ENOSPC problems, and help users better understand where their
disk
space is going.

  support ghci.

I don't see a haskell-happs-util in unstable anymore, so this has been taken
care of. As for haskell-syb-with-class I wonder what the equivalence of
template haskell and ghci is. E.g. you could build-depend on ghci to only
build on architectures where ghci is available, no?

yes, if there were a (virtual) ghci package. This is planned for the
next ghc release. In fact, I am suggesting even more virtual packages
(ghci, ghc-th, ghc-threaded) in case the ghci ~ th equivalency stops to
hold some time, and for the packages needing a threaded RTS.

But for unstable, this is not yet in place.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#601187: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: Please apply patch for shared I/O region support

2010-10-24 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-26
Severity: wishlist

This is a followup from bug 597820. I would like to get the watchdog
support for f71889fg with a squeeze kernel. The support for that chip
isn't yet upstream, and I understand that you wouldn't want to include
it (yet). However, it would be much easier for me if I only had to rebuild
the module after each security release instead of the kernel, and this
means it would be nice if the squeeze kernel supported shared I/O region
for that module to be buildable and useable.

Please note that there are patches against hwmon/f71882fg.c in bug 597820
that would be better applied, too, but it's not that much a problem for me
to patch that module as well, though if someone builds the watchdog driver
without modifying the hwmon one, they will have troubles.

Please also note the patch makes the ABI check script barf, but there is
technically no function signature change.

Attached here is the backported patch (trivial context difference in the
header file).

Thanks

Mike
commit 85a6dce87df872e22fbcd4c0f7c66fafc16a531c
Author: Alan Cox a...@linux.intel.com
Date: Mon Mar 29 19:38:00 2010 +0200

resource: shared I/O region support

SuperIO devices share regions and use lock/unlock operations to chip
select. We therefore need to be able to request a resource and wait for
it to be freed by whichever other SuperIO device currently hogs it.
Right now you have to poll which is horrible.

Add a MUXED field to IO port resources. If the MUXED field is set on the
resource and on the request (via request_muxed_region) then we block
until the previous owner of the muxed resource releases their region.

This allows us to implement proper resource sharing and locking for
superio chips using code of the form

enable_my_superio_dev() {
request_muxed_region(0x44, 0x02, superio:watchdog);
outb() ..sequence to enable chip
}

disable_my_superio_dev() {
outb() .. sequence of disable chip
release_region(0x44, 0x02);
}

Bug#601093: same here - grub-mkrelpath changes render my system unbootable.

2010-10-24 Thread Erich Schubert
Shouldn't the bug even be grave severity?
After all, it renders systems unbootable.

I also had to strip /boot from the path names to be able to boot, since
grub-mkrelpath doesn't work properly anymore. And people not accustomed
to grub may have a hard time here.

Regards,
Erich

Bug#601189: debian-cd: Support replacing the g-i image with ones own image

In Debian Edu, we replace the image shown at the top of the graphical
installer with our own. It would be nice if this was supported by
debian-cd without a patch. At the moment we use this patch to repack
the initrd to replace the PNG, because the graphical installer only
read this image during boot, and our new image need to be available
when X is started from the initrd.

  Hi,

can you please add an kernel image for loongson 2e as well? The best
seems to be to clone the working 2f configuration, and set
CONFIG_LEMOTE_FULOONG2E instead of 2F. Rest should be identical (if
there are issues, I'll of course follow up).

Are these not similar enough to handle with just one flavour and maybe a
 few code changes?

If I remember my discussions with Aurel correct, this is not possible.
(Otherwise, I agree that would be a good thing.)

Bug#600210: Freeze Exception: libgda4

2010-10-24 Thread Piotr Pokora

On 23.10.2010 19:44, Adam D. Barratt wrote:

Which of the fixes mentioned in upstream's changelog does the above
refer to?

internal debug macros

(and if it's a critical bug, why is it not at least mentioned in the
package's changelog and/or filed in the BTS?)

This bug is critical for libraries or application which have to be built
with GObject Introspection. Currently there's (at least) anjuta and glom
packages which depend on libgda, but do not use GIR.

There's upcoming Midgard2 Content Repository library:
http://ftp-master.debian.org/new/midgard2-core_10.05.1.2-1.html
which is built against libgda and GIR.
It's in sid, but it'll trigger conflicts in case of backports.

Besides, many developers who build applications on top of libgda
complains about this library, not being up to date in available official
repositories. Libgda is the only one, open source library which provides
common access to databases, and thus should be available with minimal
amount of bugs.

GIR itself is quite new and young technology, but there will be more and
more applications which are built on top of it.

Bug#601135: navit can't read my garmin img file

Sometimes, navit doesn't response at all when i load this map.
 It's work with OSM maps.

I knew I would eventually receive such a bug report :/

The reason is that I don't have any Garmin map to test the plugin with.

I'm not sure about what to do there. It may ends up by removing
libgarmin from squeeze if I can't find out what's going on.

Is is possible for you to send me a - not too heavy - Garmin file so I
could have a look at the problem?

2010-10-24 Thread Christian PERRIER
Resurrecting an old request...

It is likely that this list would get few contributors. *However* it
would be very useful for our very active Vietnamese translator (namely
Clytie Siddall) to keep track of work she already did and translations
that are sitting in the BTS.

As an exemple, look at
http://www.debian.org/intl/l10n/po-debconf/es. In that page, you'll
see that the needed update for, say, linux-2.6 has been sent as bug
#600694. This is because of this message:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-l10n-spanish/2010/debian-l10n-spanish-201010/msg00338.html

Having this system for our very active Vietnamese team would be very
helpful for her.

Don't do it then?
At least, find out why: boot with init=/bin/bash, open a second terminal
with openvt and manually run the rcS init scripts until it hangs.

By the way, the exercises revealed
 Warning: dev (tty1) tty-count(5) != #fd's(4) in tty_release_dev

I don't know for sure whether that's what you've run into, but I think
it can happen in any game with AI.

I haven't bothered to prepare a 2.2.3 package because we are in freeze.
I can try to find time to update the package in git (even if we don't
upload it) if it helps.

(Another crash in 2.2.2 that's fixed in 2.2.3 is
http://gna.org/bugs/?16592, but I know less about that one.)

(Is it too late to get 2.2.3 into Squeeze?)

Squeeze has 2.2.1
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/freeciv-client-gtk .
Will this mean we are free of the issue?

Invalid string conversion from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1.

Don't know what this is about; probably just as it says on the tin.
(Does Debian still default to ISO-8859-1 rather than UTF-8 in local
 terminals?)

Don't know offhand sorry.

Hello Samuel,

thank you for your report. This bug was found during
the 0.7.1 developement and that part of code was
completely rewritten in 0.7.1, using a hash table
to store the connections.

However, your patch might still be useful as a simple
fix for the 0.7 debian package.

The examples are actually in the manpage files, but man doesn't display

The bug we are facing here is that kdm starts on vt2 when it's not supposed
 to
even bother with VTs below 7. ServerVTs=-7 setting in /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
takes care of it (on Linux). However, apparently ServerVTs does not work on
kfbsd for some reason (nor it's present in default kdmrc). Finding that
 reason
would be the real fix and I will look into it later today/tomorrow. It could
be as easy as #define which does not cover kfbsd (I hope).

This suggests HAVE_VTS macro is not being set. Maybe this helps?

Bug#601198: mdadm: Says it sets faulty even when it actually doesn't

2010-10-24 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: mdadm
Version: 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1

Just had this scary experience this morning, where I thought I did
something really wrong, being that I setted faulty the only remaining
active device from a raid 1 array during recovery, when I meant to
set the other one faulty:

# mdadm --detail /dev/md0

# mdadm --set-faulty /dev/md0 /dev/sdb2
mdadm: set /dev/sdb2 faulty in /dev/md0

Here I thought I was screwed, but it turns out it really didn't happen.

For people's blood pressure, it would better if it managed to say it
failed doing the requested operation.

Bug#600262: apt: random_sleep should not be executed if anacron has started the cron.daily script

2010-10-24 Thread Goswin von Brederlow

 Hi,

Please apply this patch to avoid 'random_sleep' if the script was started

But if the system stays up all night then the jobs are also started by
anacron. This time at the problematic time though.

I don't know exactly how 'cron' and 'anacron' are supposed to handle
the cron scripts but I've just let my workstation running over night
 to see the result.

I've received this email from Anacron:
 | From: Anacron r...@fqdn
 | To: r...@fqdn
 | Subject: Anacron job 'cron.daily' on FQDN
 | Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2010 07:37:57 +0300 (EEST)
 |
 | /etc/cron.daily/apt:
 | Sat Oct 23 07:35:02 EEST 2010
 | 14147
 | Sat Oct 23 07:35:02 EEST 2010
(where 14147 was PID of anacron)

So, it is clear that the 'apt' script was not executed by Cron but by
Anacron. This is the expected behaviour when anacron is installed from
 /etc/crontab:
 | # m h dom mon dow user command
 | 25 6* * *   roottest -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd /  run-parts
 --report /etc/cron.daily )

To conclude, I don't think the patch I've proposed is causing the
execution at the problematic time which seems to be 6:25AM. The
script was executed clearly at 7:35. Also, desktop systems are not
supposed to be running over night but those few exceptions are not
 many.

 Thanks

There ae 2 problematic times. The first is 6:25 without anacron
installed. The second is 7:35 with anacron installed. Anacron just runs
later thatn cron:

m...@frosties:~% cat /etc/cron.d/anacron
30 7* * * roottest -x /etc/init.d/anacron /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d
anacron start /dev/null

and anacron waits 5 miutes before actualy running.

Bug#601201: xserver-xorg-input-joystick: Reports bogus keycodes which lead to almost unusable DE

2010-10-24 Thread Kai Wasserbäch
Package: xserver-xorg-input-joystick
Version: 1:1.5.0-6
Severity: important
Tags: experimental
Justification: Makes desktop environment almost unusable.

Dear X Strike Force,
I've installed the joystick input driver yesterday alongside evdev (also
from experimental). And that lead to an unusable desktop environment
(KDE in my case). It seems like joystick is reporting key presses that
didn't happen (the Joystick wasn't touched) or reported multiple events
for keys on my keyboard. E.g. if I'd press the up arrow key in Konsole
it would also report the down arrow, which lead to a constant switch
between an empty line in the shell and the last entry.
If I moved the mouse near the borders of the screen the virtual desktops
would switch in an endless cycle until I moved the mouse back to the
middle of the screen.

Unfortunately nothing is logged to /var/log/Xorg.0.log, so I'm not
entirely sure it's joystick, it might also be evdev which isn't coping
well with joystick. But I'd be happy to assist you in debugging this.

Kind regards,
Kai Wasserbäch

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ia32-libs-libssh2: Depends: ia32-libs (= 20090808) but it is not going to
 be installed
 E: Broken packages

That means what is say: No package ia32-libs with version = 20090808 is
going to be installed.

The big question now is WHY?

Usualy this error means that ia32-libs depends on something that is
uninstallable. To find out the simplest way is to run

  sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-libssh2 ia32-libs

You might get the same kind of error again and then just keep adding the
respective packages to the command line till it will give you a can not
be installed error (or other). Then you've found the culprit.

On a side note: libssh2-1 is already included in ia32-libs and you will
get a file override conflict trying to install ia32-libs-libssh2 with
current ia32-libs. Whatever needs this package needs to be rebuild
against a newer ia32-libs.

Bug#601203: debian-cd: Recommended packages should be included recursively for apt to find

2010-10-24 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: debian-cd
Version: 3.1.3
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
UserTags: debian-edu

In Debian Edu, I have discovered that the set of packages installed
when we install using our DVD is not the same set of packages
installed when installing using the netinst CD.

I've tracked down the cause, and it is the fact that the packages we
want on the DVD do not get all their recommended packages added to the
DVD, making apt fail to find all the packages it find when using the
netinst CD. The NORECOMMENDS=0 setting in debian-cd only take effect
for the packages directly listed in the task lists. Their recommended
packages do not get their recommended packages included on the DVD.

I have written this (untested) patch to try to get debian-cd to behave
more like apt, and include recommended packages recursively when the
NORECOMMENDS=0 flag is set.

Including it here for feedback and comments. I'll test the patch and
see how it affect the Debian Edu DVD build. :)

Bug#577661: Status of DSPAM in Debian

2010-10-24 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi Thomas,

Le dimanche 24 oct. 2010 à 12:58:58 (+0800), Thomas Goirand a écrit :
 Hi,

 I've seen this:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=577661

and I'm very surprised that, after such a discussion in last April,
there wasn't any new package for DSPAM in Debian.

Julien, what's the status? After 6 months, you should have been able to
upload a new package, at least in Experimental, no?

As expressed in the bug report you mention, I would like to wait until 3.9.1
is released, which might never happen given the upstream development is
stalled since Stevan's decision to put his work on DSPAM on hold, at least
temporary.

I am particulary concerned about a bug affecting the hash driver (the
default backend in the Debian package), which is explained at [0].

As I see that many people seems to be interested in working on a DSPAM
package, I was wondering if the time to do a collab-maint project has
come, so that we aren't fixed to a single maintainer/uploader.

There is already a pkg-dspam project on Alioth, most of the members of the
team do not seem to have interest for it though.

I have recently opened an RFH [1] for this package I cannot maintain alone,
which also explains why nothing was uploaded for now.

Thoms Preud'Homme recently joined the team and has already begin his work on
the package.

We might use DSPAM in my company (eg: GPLHost), as a replacement for
Spamassassin that takes too much memory and CPU. If it works out well,
then I will for sure give a hand for this package.

You are welcome to join the project if you wish so. The package sources are
in git [2]. Bug triaging needs to be done, as well as a general check of the
package, as I have changed so many things since the previous upload… Note
that these packages are already being testing by a bunch of users (including
myself).

 Can anyone tells me
why DSPAM is better than spamassassin?

They do work in totally different ways. Check the DSPAM home page as well as
the README file in the tarball for more details.

Would I still need clamav if I
run DSPAM (our understanding is that we would)?

DSPAM is an antispam filter, not an antirus thing. However, DSPAM can call
clamav for virus checking.

 How much memory DSPAM
uses in a normal production server?

It really depends on the way you deploy it, and on the scale of your server…

Just as an example, I wrote a small blog entry when I switched from SA
to DSPAM on my home server (in 2006), and a graphic shows how the memory use is
different [3].

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#601140: consolekit: Should not claim xrdp sessions are local

2010-10-24 Thread Vincent Bernat
OoO Pendant le journal télévisé du samedi 23 octobre 2010, vers 20:26,
Petter Reinholdtsen p...@hungry.com disait :

 Package: consolekit
 Version: 0.4.1-4

Not quite sure if this is a bug in consolekit or xrdp, but the
combination do not work as it should.

I set up xrdp in Squeeze, and logged in via the RPD protocol using
rdesktop from a remote machine. Then ran ck-list-sessions and can see
that the session for my logged in user is claimed to be local:

   Session5:
 unix-user = '500'
 realname = 'test'
 seat = 'Seat4'
 session-type = ''
 active = FALSE
 x11-display = ':10.0'
 x11-display-device = ''
 display-device = ''
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2010-10-23T18:06:32.254503Z'
 login-session-id = ''

I believe RPD logins should be considered non-local, to make sure
services only available for local users are inaccessible for users
 logged in using RDP.

This was using xrdp version 0.5.0~20100303cvs-6.

I think the problem lies in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90consolekit which
considers that when it is able to get a display number considers that
you are a local user. Since you get a display number whatever you use a
graphical session, this seems not the right thing to do.

Maybe this script should also check for GetX11DisplayDevice which is a
tty if we use a local session and which is empty otherwise.

Currently, the dynamic deprecated commands list is generated by looking

the translations because deprecated is translated.

Consider attached patch. It test if command is deprecated or not from a
list of deprecated commands in the Makefile. It work with all
translations and with the origin version.

Bug#601003: slim does not set at_console permission

After using slim as login manager, I am not considered as a local user

Therefore, there is many things handled by policykit or dbus that I am

Since consolekit stuff is also handled by Xsession, it seems the problem
lies in consolekit himself. I merge this bug with #597397.

It seems that there is two bugs in this bug report:
 - the one reported by James which explicitely uses ck-launch-session
 - the one reported by Fernando and relayed by myself

For the later bug, we rely on /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90consolekit. Reading
carefully this script, I think that it does not work at all. The
function is_on_console() returns 1 (which means false) when the user has
a display string and 0 (which means true) otherwise. The function should
returns 1 when the user has no display string. Therefore, when this was
working with consolekit 0.4.1-4, the script has nothing to do with it.

I did not test if everything works back when correcting the
is_on_console() function but I suppose that this is not true since James
is not able to be recognized as a local user despite invoking
ck-launch-session directly.

Bug#582376: advice for syncevolution in squeeze

  (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=582376#31) that
several fairly severe upstream have been fixed in more recent versions.
I have looked at the first 3 or 4, and they do involve data loss.

From a quick look through the list, most of them sound worth looking at
and that they should be easily extractable as small targetted fixes.

Some of the GUI changes - for instance, improved setup of devices,
styling fix - don't immediately sound like they'd be appropriate right
 now.

These are the ones which are relevant to make direct synchronization
with phones useful. The same probably applies to some of the mentioned
bug fixes: they are likely to depend on features introduced after beta 2
and thus I doubt that backporting them will be feasible.

If 1.0 + bug fixes is not acceptable for Debian Squeeze, then I suggest
that direct synchronization with phones gets disabled entirely in the
Debian Squeeze build by turning off Bluetooth support. Users who want
that need to find a backport of SyncEvolution.

FWIW, I still think that 1.0 + bug fixes is the better choice for
Squeeze. It has been in use for a while now and arguably is better than
beta 2, with no known regressions whatsoever.

Bug#601140: consolekit: Should not claim xrdp sessions are local

2010-10-24 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Vincent Bernat]
I think the problem lies in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90consolekit which
considers that when it is able to get a display number considers
that you are a local user. Since you get a display number whatever
you use a graphical session, this seems not the right thing to do.

I sure hope the is-local flag is not under control of the user logging
in, as it would allow anyone to get more access than they should have.
The scripts in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ are executed as the user logging
in, which make me hope that this is not the source of the is-local
setting in consolekit. :)

Happy hacking,

Bug#585142: twisted: Leaves dropin.cache lying around in python2.4/site-packages

2010-10-24 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi Matthias (2010.07.26_14:00:42_+0200)
 10.0.0 had them, 10.1.0 doesn't.
 10.0.0 was wrong.

The dropin.cache files are in the symlink farm in 10.1.0-3.

For now, please re-install python-twisted-core 10.1.0-2, which should
remove the cache file. I know, not a perfect solution.

Just re-tested this, now the entire symlink farm for 2.4 remains:

$ find /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/twisted/ | wc -l

Bug#594601: Pre-approval for dblatex: fix for annoying #594601

2010-10-24 Thread Andreas Hoenen
Hi,

would you grant me a freeze exception for fixing BTS #594601:
dblatex: util.py:8: DeprecationWarning: md5 deprecated; use hashlib instead
?

Although the update would not fall into one of the official exception
categories, it is comparable to a recent rubber update during the freeze:

rubber (1.1-2.3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix annoying DeprecationWarning from python 2.6, use hashlib for md5
(closes: #591533).

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Thu, 23 Sep 2010 14:21:53 +0200

The deprecation warning with every dblatex call really is annoying, and
the fix is trivial.

Thanks for your attention, Andreas

Bug#601201: xserver-xorg-input-joystick: Reports bogus keycodes which lead to almost unusable DE

2010-10-24 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hello Kai,

Kai Wasserbäch deb...@carbon-project.org (24/10/2010):
 Package: xserver-xorg-input-joystick
 Version: 1:1.5.0-6
 Severity: important
 Tags: experimental
Justification: Makes desktop environment almost unusable.

it'd be nice to use reportbug, so that we know more about your
system. Running /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3/tmp/script.log
and attaching its output would help.

I've installed the joystick input driver yesterday alongside evdev
(also from experimental). And that lead to an unusable desktop
environment (KDE in my case). It seems like joystick is reporting
key presses that didn't happen (the Joystick wasn't touched) or
reported multiple events for keys on my keyboard.

Out of curiosity, which joystick is it?

E.g. if I'd press the up arrow key in Konsole it would also report
the down arrow, which lead to a constant switch between an empty
line in the shell and the last entry. If I moved the mouse near the
borders of the screen the virtual desktops would switch in an
endless cycle until I moved the mouse back to the middle of the
 screen.

Does that also happen if you unplug your joystick?

Unfortunately nothing is logged to /var/log/Xorg.0.log, so I'm not
entirely sure it's joystick, it might also be evdev which isn't
coping well with joystick. But I'd be happy to assist you in
 debugging this.

You could compare what is shown in xev (so, X's view of stuff), and in
evtest /dev/input/$your_input (kernel's view). It might make sense to
compare both output, both with joystick plugged and unplugged.

Mraw,
KiBi.

Is alleyoop itself non-portable? If it only depends on valgrind the build

Bug#601219: unblock pyxplot/0.8.3-1

2010-10-24 Thread Stuart Prescott
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Dear release team,

I think my original request got caught in a race condition between me drafting
it, getting the package uploaded (three weeks ago), letting it age and you
requesting that all unblock requests go via the bts rather than directly to
the mailing list.

My original request was at:

http://lists.debian.org/201010172314.51489.stuart+deb...@nanonanonano.net

but is included below for your convenience. I hope that the extra delay in
making this request via the bts isn't problematic.

many thanks
Stuart

 8 ---

Dear release team,

I would like to request a freeze exception for version 0.8.3-1 of pyxplot to
enter squeeze. It is primarily a bugfix release from upstream with a couple
of slight changes to functionality. It would be great if squeeze users could
have 0.8.3 rather than 0.8.2 to both fix these bugs and also to ensure that
documentation on upstream's website is consistent with the behaviour in the
Debian package in the case where functionality has changed. The package has
gracefully aged in unstable for 13 days now.

Thanks in advance for considering!

regards
Stuart

Upstream changelog:

2010 Sep 15: PyXPlot 0.8.3
   - @ macro expansion operator implemented.
   - assert command implemented.
- for command behaviour changed such that for i=1 to 10 includes a
final
  iteration with i=10.
   - Point types rearranged into a more logical order.
   - Improved support for newer Windows bitmap images.
   - Bugfix to the 'set unit preferred' command.
   - Binary not operator bugfixed.
   - Bugfix to handling of comma-separated horizontal datafiles.
   - Mathematical function finite() added.

Debian changelog:

pyxplot (0.8.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream (bugfix) release
  * Add additional copyright holders to debian/copyright
  * Set DM-Upload-Allowed: yes

I know, but Squeeze is under deep freeze and the rules are clear: no new
version of a package can be uploaded unless it fixes a bug of RC severity,
that is, so grave that it renders the package unusable.

If you can find a bug with such gravity that is present in 0.9.20 and not
present in 0.9.27, then we can maybe get a freeze exception and upload the
newest version for inclusion in Squeeze. Otherwise, the newest version
will be uploaded after Squeeze has been released.

it'd be nice to use reportbug, so that we know more about your
 system. Running /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3/tmp/script.log
and attaching its output would help.

Well I used reportbug, but of course the joystick package was uninstalled at
that time because it made my DE do crazy things. ;)
Attached you'll find the (compressed) log of a manual run.

Out of curiosity, which joystick is it?

As you can see from the attached log: MS SideWinder Precision Pro (USB)

Does that also happen if you unplug your joystick?

No.

You could compare what is shown in xev (so, X's view of stuff), and in
evtest /dev/input/$your_input (kernel's view). It might make sense to
compare both output, both with joystick plugged and unplugged.

xev's output is attached, evtest reports: evtest: can't get version:
Inappropriate ioctl for device (that is for the /dev/input/event and for the
/dev/input/mouse devices, called via by-id).

Let me know, if you need something else (for now I've reinstalled the joystick
driver and unplugged the Joystick) and I try to provide the information ASAP.

Kind regards,
Kai Wasserbäch

Noticed some of the patches were not pushed upstream and I can't find
enough info motivating why they're needed.

I didn't check, but from what I gather _not all_ those patches are
applied upstream. Would be interesting to know which one(s) are
  acceptable/arguable/inacceptable.

applets-fallback.patch - needs explaining what it achieves

init-console.patch - needs explaining why this is necessary

 make_gen_build_files_skip_quilt.patch
   - needs to add comment and use less mind-bending escaping (.\?\* - ???)

shell-ash-export-HOME.patch - exports PATH. bash doesn't do it. Why?

strip.patch - why? it seems to work fine as-is

 swaponoff-FreeBSD-support.patch, u-mount-FreeBSD-support.patch - big, needs
 review

 version.patch - why?

The rest was already in git, or has been pushed to git.

Thanks. Digged up some names from the debian package changelog and added
them to the Cc: list. I was not able to find relevant info about the
commented patches, but I hope something will happen soon, as this message
will go to the debian BTS.

Cheers,

I thought there was a bug on this, but i can't find it.
The getnonfreefonts is only used for downloading proprietary software,
so it should probably go in contrib rather then main.

If it were in a separate package, or at least a major part of the
package it is in, I'd agree with you. But IMO it doesn't make sense to
split off a contrib package from texlive-base-bin for one small
script. And AFAIR, this is also consense in the project - please correct
me if I'm wrong.

Bug#601225: i915: Screen not refreshed with GTT full, but LRU list empty error

2010-10-24 Thread Francesc Altisent
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.12.0+shadow-2
Severity: grave
File: i915
Justification: renders package unusable

i915 corrupts screen randomly by filling the dmesg log with the
following error

[ 2025.202526] [drm:i915_gem_object_bind_to_gtt] *ERROR* GTT full, but
LRU list
empty
[ 2025.202529] [drm:i915_gem_object_pin] *ERROR* Failure to bind: -12
[ 2025.202532] [drm:i915_gem_execbuffer] *ERROR* Failed to pin buffers -12

Restarting gdm does not recover the system.
Reboot recovers the system but the error appears again.
