Bug#580209: sonata: Sonata segfault with custom gtk-im-module if GTK_IM_MODULE is not set
Hi, On Fri, Jul 15, 2011 at 04:13:25PM +0200, Kjö Hansi Glaz wrote: sorry, this is unreproducible. I can't easily install it under stable, nor trivially backport it, so I might take some time to test. sorry, there is no plan to backport uim 1.7.0 for dependency reason. i think this bug is related with Bug#599837 (fixed in 1:1.7.0-1). Bug#601560: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the uswsusp package

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl it ja nl pt pt_BR ro ru sk sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: pt_BR If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, July 23, 2011. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. Quoting Uli Luckas (uli.luc...@tic-mobile.de): This is the plasma widget. Hi all, I am suffering from the same problem and can report that starting nm-applet will immediately show all local APs and will connect as expected. What is nm-applet? The Gnome thing? So this is probably an issue with the plasma widget, not with nm. Sorry, I failed giving more news about this issue and how I working around it. I should have, sorry for that. I think it is an issue with the plasma widget, yes. I managed to configure my connections as system connections and they work as expectedas long as they're definied as system connections. The plasma widget does indeed display a forbidden sign for the wireless connection (red circle with an oblique bar) while the wired connection, which is defined as a user connection is working as expected. So, in short, I suspect a permission problem somewhere. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#633640: quicksorter doesn't work with relative domains for $INCLUDE directives
Package: opendnssec-signer Version: 1.2.1.dfsg-1~bpo60+1 Severity: normal Hi Ondrej, Thanks for your quick reply. I have tried out the backport, and it seems that it didn't support different origins after an $INCLUDE directive at all. This needs to be moved to /run too (/lib/init/rw/splashy → /run/splashy). Please also note, that /run exists for the complete runtime of the system, i.e. is created already in the initramfs and transitioned automatically to the real root. So in case you already need to create runtime data in the initramfs, you can use /run for this now. Bug#634045: DKMS support
Package: freebsd-buildutils Severity: wishlist 2011/7/16 Benjamin Kaduk ka...@mit.edu: The patch omits some context that is probably important to what is actually going on, so I do not speak with full confidence. It seems that depmod is roughly similar to freebsd's kldxref(8). The latter is not mentioned in the changelog and does not appear in the patch -- does kFreeBSD circumvent the generation of hints for the kernel linker, or is this step taken elsewhere (in the individual module build routine, say), or should it be added in DKMS? I don't know the answer to your questions, but it turns out we don't provide kldxref yet. Untill we do it's out of the question to rely on it :-) I'm making a bug out of this so that it's not forgotten. Btw, my port of DKMS also assumes that modules may only be installed in the top directory in /lib/modules/$KVER/ (which is true currently). -- Robert Millan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#633886: systemd chokes when /tmp is symlinked to /run/tmp
On Sat, Jul 16, 2011 at 01:01:22AM +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: Am 16.07.2011 00:07, schrieb Trevour Crow: --- On Thu, 7/14/11, Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org wrote: From: Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org Subject: Re: Bug#633886: systemd chokes when /tmp is symlinked to /run/tmp To: Trevour Crow cro...@yahoo.com, 633...@bugs.debian.org Date: Thursday, July 14, 2011, 3:42 PM Imho symlinking /tmp to /run/tmp is a stupid idea for various reasons. If you want /tmp to be on a tmpfs, then make it a separate tmpfs. That said, if you want the /run/tmp directory created automatically by systemd, you can drop a file in /etc/tmpfiles.d [1]. I don't think such a file should be shipped by default in systemd though, but leave it up to Tollef to decide. My main concern is the fact that systemd breaks on a system sysvinit supports without any warning(and initscripts's README.Debian gives no hint the configuration is anything but perfectly acceptable). Is there any reason that automating the workaround in systemd's postinst would be unacceptable? Something like this should catch most cases where the bug would manifest: if [ -h /tmp ]; then echo d $(readlink /tmp) 1777 root root - /etc/tmpfiles.d/tmp-target.conf fi Hi Roger, I'm wondering, what was the rationale behind introducing the /tmp → /run/tmp symlink in sysvinit? Isn't that potentially dangerous, as /tmp is writable by everyone thus making /run vulnerable to DoS? While I can see the merit of a /tmp-on-tmpfs, the value behind /run/tmp is not obvious to me. Imho we shouldn't go overboard and stuff everything in /run now that we have it. I agree entirely. This is not intended to be used by default at all. The actual feature in sysvinit uses this logic: # If /tmp is a symlink, make sure the linked-to directory exists. if [ -L /tmp ] [ ! -d /tmp ]; then TMPPATH=$(readlink /tmp) mkdir -p --mode=755 $TMPPATH [ -x /sbin/restorecon ] /sbin/restorecon $TMPPATH fi So it's not in any way specific to /run. If you make /tmp a symlink, you can point it anywhere you like, and this logic just makes sure that the path exists. If you point it to /run/tmp, then it will create /run/tmp. But that's just one possibility. The reason for having the logic is to allow consolidation of all writable filesystems. This might be useful on embedded systems with little memory for tmpfs, and where most things are read only, for example. If you set RAMLOCK=no, RAMSHM=no and set /tmp to use /run/tmp, all the writable stuff is in a single place. There are other applications also, such as pointing /tmp to a large shared scratch space in a cluster environment. You are definitely correct that this makes /run vulnerable to DoS. In consequence, I would not recommend this ever be used on a general purpose system. The intent of the feature is to give flexibility to implementors of special purpose resource-constrained systems. Unless there is a really good reason for /run/tmp, would you be willing to drop /run/tmp from sysvinit, so that we don't have to add any quirks in systemd to deal with that? The support in initscripts is limited to the shell code above, from mountkernfs. Looking at it some more, it's probably in the wrong place (it should be after root is remounted rw and mountall in case the path doesn't yet exist). Regarding removal, I guess it depends upon whether having this generic facility is considered a problem given the considerations I mentioned above. Regards, Roger -- .''`. Bug#626752: lockfile-progs: lockfile-create --use-pid uses wrong pid
tags 626752 patch thanks * Thus spake Zrin ?iborski (zrin+launch...@ziborski.net): It uses L_PID which puts the PID of the lockfile-create process in the lock. It needs to use the L_PPID (2 places) to put the process id of the process executing lockfile-create. Without this change lockfile-create is useless, as it succeeds every time. Spectrum of latent problems and consequences is indeed massive, therefore severity grave. Please be aware that using --use-pid breaks NFS. Anyway, please find attached a patch for the issue. Sebastian From cb7c25e73173dd12e7582bbcf66fded3ccd92736 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior sebast...@breakpoint.cc Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 12:16:02 +0200 Subject: [PATCH] lockfile-progs: Use parents PID instead current PID for --use-pid Right now --use-pid writes the PID of the current process i.e. of the -create binary. This PID is gone once the process terminates. Therefore the only sane PID to use is the PID of the parent which makes sense in shell script use case. There is no difference which of the two options is specified for the -check variant as this one checks if this PID is alive. Using --use-pid on -check makes things kinda worse because this is no longer safe on a shared file system (or may lead to false positives if there happen to be a process with the PID by chance) which is the oposite what the manpage of lockfile_create() says. Bug#634057: Problem with package description
Package: libbliss0d Version: 0.50-1 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, working on the translation of the package description to German I found a problem. Perhaps it depends on my command of English. Description: library to compute graph automorphisms and labelings Bliss is a backtracking algorithm based on individualization and refinement for labeling a graph. Data structures, subroutines, and pruning heuristics especially for fast handling of large and sparse graphs are provided. This package provides the shared library; a C++ and C API is also available. I think the first sentence would be closer to the short description in this form: Bliss is a backtracking algorithm for labeling a graph, based on individualization and refinement. Could you please ask your upstream if they really intended to do a SONAME bump for minor bug fixes and some new extensions? There indeed are two symbols removed besides the usual additions: -__glPNTrianglewesfATI -__glPNTrianglewesiATI That could be a valid reason I guess. Joost Thanks for checking up on that. Usually symbols like that are intended as private symbols; perhaps upstream or you could work upstream on hiding these symbols so they can rename/remove them without having to bump the SONAME. #5328: Include compiler version in ABI hash -+-- Reporter: nomeata | Owner: Type: feature request | Status: new Priority: normal| Component: Compiler Version: 7.0.4 |Keywords: Testcase:| Blockedby: Os: Unknown/Multiple |Blocking: Architecture: Unknown/Multiple | Failure: None/Unknown -+-- Hi, as outlined in the discussion at http://lists.debian.org/1310417783.21421.22.camel@kirk, it would be beneficial if the ABI hash of packages would change if compiled by a different version of the compiler – after all, the interface files of such a package would not be usable any more. Debian uses the abi hashes to detect what needs to be rebuilt, hence we have an interest in this. The attached patch has been applied to ghc in Debian unstable already, and I’d greatly appreciate if it or something with the same effect would enter the main line. -- Ticket URL: http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/ticket/5328 GHC http://www.haskell.org/ghc/ The Glasgow Haskell Compiler -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hello, Thanks for looking into this. However, closing the bugs is not going to resolve the issue. uim will stay broken. To add some more information I use complex IMs only occasionally, and use xkb for multiple languages that don't require a complex IM. Currently this works for me with scim but this has multiple issues. First of all scim does not work in non-CJK locale at all by default, and it is quite challenging to make both xkb layouts with dead keys and scim to work together. I tried other IMs present in Debian because I heard that scim is no longer very active and is going to be retired in Debian eventually. Bug#634063: fontconfig: please disable broken (incompolete) embedded bitmaps in ttf fonts
Package: fontconfig Version: 2.8.0-2.1 Severity: wishlist Hello, I was wondering why Iceweasel displays some pages in very ugly way - some glyphs were sharp, others were somewhat fuzzy and different size/weight. It turned out that - the page selects Tahoma as the preferred font - wine installs a Tahoma font - the Tahoma from wine has some (extended) Latin glyphs present only as outlines, not bitmaps - bitmaps are used for the Lating glyphs that have them, outlines otherwise This could be prevented if fontconfig pruned the bitmaps for ranges that are incomplete. eg in this case the font has some glyphs in Basic Latin and Extended Latin *, and some of the glyphs in Extended Latin * are present only as outlines. As all the Latin ranges are supposed to work together bitmaps should be turned off for the Latin ranges so that all the glyphs are rendered the same. I am not sure how glyphs like 'fi' fit into this, though. If fontconfig cannot affect what font features are used by applications then perhaps this should be handled by freetype/pango/whatever does that. Still fontconfig is supposed to be a central place for these kinds of settings. It would be ugly to do separately in every toolkit.
