Could you give an example? What steps should I follow to reproduce this bug?

Oops, right :)

openssl-blacklist is pretty much useless I'm afraid. It doesn't block anything
on its own, it is only useful for checking a host's own certs against the list
of weak certs.

I've been thinking about blocking them at the library layer, but that implies
extending the current hack in openssl, at least for the time being. A
discussion about a more generic way to do it was started with ossl upstream,
but haven't got back to that, yet.

It's my opinion that inittab(5) is such a fragile file that it
shouldn't be touched unless explicitly requested. Given that
editing inittab(5) manually isn't a big deal, I'd suggest
marking this bug with wontfix.

Does the screen go blank, or is there still text/images on the screen
at that point?

Has this always been this way, or did it start after an upgrade (i.e.,
is it a regression)? If it is a regression, what were the last
working and first broken versions?

Results from testing with v3.x from sid or experimental would also be
very useful, so we can get help from upstream if it is still broken
there or find a fix to backport if it is fixed. (The only packages
from outside squeeze aside from linux-image itself that should be
needed to test are initramfs-tools and linux-base, both available from
squeeze-backports.)

> As I think, the bug could be somewhere at drivers/usb/host/ohci-

It would be possible to test for that by blacklisting the driver and
seeing if it still happens. (Likewise for other drivers if you have
suspicions.)

Thanks for reporting, and good luck.

Regards,
Jonathan

Does running as “gvim -f” make any difference? Could you attach the

Does it matter what's in that file or does an empty one cause the same
problem? Is the gtk2-engines-qtcurve package what you're referring to?

I's really a plugin, and it's intended to be loaded into Tcl shell of
any version (8.4, 8.5, 8.6), so linking to a specific Tcl library
isn't desirable. On the other hand, tclreadline uses so called stubs
where all public Tcl functions are stored in a big table of pointers
(see struct TclStubs and macro definition of Tcl_Eval in
/usr/include/tcl8.5/tclDecls.h), so it is seems to be a bug if
Tcl_Eval is called directly.

I'll see what can be done to fix it (and the linking as well).

Cheers!

Bug#647774: gummi: Please remove dependency on texlive-latex-base

2011-11-05 Thread cfr
Package: gummi
Severity: wishlist

Please consider removing the dependency on texlive-latex-base and change
it to recommends.

As far as I can tell, a tex installation is not necessary for the
program to run or to edit tex files. It is necessary only to process the
source.

One might wish to use a tex editor without Debian's installation of tex
for two reasons. First, one might be using texlive from upstream under
/usr/local/texlive. Second, one might wish to edit source but not
process on a particular machine e.g. to use the same editor on a desktop
and netbook but only process on the desktop or to use an institutional
installation of tex for processing.

Not all dedicated tex editors in Debian depend on a tex installation.
texmaker and texworks both recommend, but do not depend, on
texlive-latex-base. (And both work perfectly well on my machine in spite
of its absence!)

Bug#647773: latexila: Please remove dpendency on rubber/texlive

2011-11-05 Thread cfr
Package: latexila
Version: 2.2.2-1
Severity: wishlist

I typically expect dependencies to be essential for a package to work
correctly. So if A depends on B, I expect that A either won't work at
all or will not work properly unless B is installed. (Perhaps I've
misunderstood the sense of 'dependency' but that is the one suggested by
their role in blocking installs etc. in package management.)

latexila currently depends on rubber or latexmk and these depend on
texlive-latex-base (tetex-bin is a virtual package with no candidates).

However, it is quite possible to use latexila with pdflatex and friends
- rubber and latexmk are supported but so are many other options and
further possibilities can be configured.

Moreover, it is also possible to use latexila without texlive-latex-base
being installed at all. There are at least two reasons one might wish to
do this. First, one might be using and managing an installation of
texlive from upstream. Mine is under /usr/local/texlive and is managed
using tlmgr etc. (Or one might be using a different flavour of tex
installation if there are any.) Or, second, one might need to edit tex
source on a machine without needing to process it on the same machine.
One might want to use the same editor on a desktop and netbook, for
example, but only process documents on the desktop. Or one might use an
institutional installation of tex located on a server for processing.

I agree that the normal use case would involve a tex installation on the
same machine and that most users would use Debian packages to install it
but I would think it should be a recommends rather than a depends.

Note that my suggestion would treat latexila in a similar way to
texmaker and texworks which recommend, but do not depend, on texlive
packages. It seems confusing to treat different tex editors differently
in this respect. (It made me wonder if this one just wouldn't launch
without tex installed but I tried it out and it seemed to work just as
well as texmaker or texworks for editing.)

I admit that other tex editors also depend on texlive but I would argue
that they are mistaken as well...

Bug#647772: gnome: Josselin Moutte shrugs off bug reports

2011-11-05 Thread Tyler MacDonald
Package: gnome
Version: 1:3.0+3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I just reported bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=647768
which is a serious issue with the debian system. This happened after a
reboot of a single system and I am afraid to reboot the rest of the fleet as
a result in fear that our knowledge and culture may be lost forever.

Instead of addressing this concern and providing and/or fixing a clean
upgrade path, Josselin has closed the previous bug with a shrug. A "shrug".
This seems to indicate that not only GNOME, but the entire debian system is
broken, and that more breakage is on the way. What can we do to avoid such
cascade failure across the whole planet?

Bug#647771: numactl: FTBFS with -B

2011-11-05 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: numactl
Version: 2.0.5-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

Hello,

See http://buildd.debian.org/numactl , building with dpkg-buildpackage
-B apparently does not work properly. This prevents numactl (and hwloc)
from entering testing.

Bug#647749: Bug 647749

2011-11-05 Thread Dave Lentz
It's easy enough to obtain a new license id (quick, automated process)
and make a little patch (the license numbers are declared at the top of
weather.h).

The only thing I'm not sure about is legal ramifications, though it
looks like TWCi has had the same license since 2008.

Bug#588041: [PATCH] use apt-get remove; remove/purge all packages at once

2011-11-05 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Removing packages with dpkg one-by-one does not respect dependencies
therefore use apt-get remove to reorder the packages properly.
apt-get purge can't be used because it fails on unknown packages (i.e. not
in the archive and not in config-files-remaining state). See #637853.
But we can purge all packages in one dpkg call.
Also apt-get in lenny is not able to properly purge previously removed
packages.

Bug#604631: systemd uses cgroup itself

2011-11-05 Thread Marcus Osdoba
Package: lxc
Version: 0.7.5-3
Severity: normal

Just a comment: Somewhere I read, that systemd itself uses cgroup to speed
things up. Since lxc also uses cgroup, I'm not sure if using cgroup inside a
cgroup backed lxc container will work. Im running wheezy inside an lxc
container with some problems/warnings, but without systemd (just "normal" init
support from minimal task).

Bug#647769: lxc-start does not work as expected when cgroup-bin creates default group

2011-11-05 Thread Marcus Osdoba
Package: lxc
Version: 0.7.5-3
Severity: minor

When cgroup-bin is installed together with lxc, one should prevent the creation
of the default group:
$ cat /etc/default/cgconfig
# Uncomment following line to disable creation of the default group on startup:
CREATE_DEFAULT=no

I wasn't able to start containers, when this default group was created during
early init process. A proper way of solving this issue might be to make cgroup-
bin maintained cgroups run in parallel those of lxc. But I don't know how to
achive this, so I switched the defaultgroup off.

This was also discussed on the german speaking mailinglist:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user-german/2011/07/msg00081.html

2011-11-05 Thread Tyler MacDonald
Package: gnome
Version: 1:3.0+3
Severity: important

I recently updated my debian, and wtf, *EVERYTHING* i have spent the past 10
years customizing is gone. I no longer have a desktop, let alone desktop
icons!! What the fuck happened to all of my menus and apps and desklets???
How do I get them all back? Are you trying to kill me here???

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Bug#647766: boinc-manager: doesn't respect the "Additional work buffer" option

2011-11-05 Thread Sandro Tosi
Package: boinc-manager
Version: 6.13.10+dfsg-1
Severity: important

Hello,
boinc-manager doesn't respect (since quite some time, sorry to report it only
now) anymore the "Additional work buffer" option. I've set it to '10' days, but
currently I only have the 3 WUs running right now, and nothing more. once one is
finished, then eventualyl others are downloaded, but just to fulfill the
immediate need of computation, no additional buffer is filled.

This is an important feature, in particular because several machines might not
have a constant connection, so being able to buffer some WUs is vital.

Regards,
Sandro

Bug#588313: [PATCH] simplify diversion modification checks

2011-11-05 Thread Andreas Beckmann
(this patch applies on top of Scott's patch in git)
Simplify the diversion checks, fix a logic error that had switched
added/removed.
Diversion state is no longer tracked globally but each of the three
tests collects the initial diversion information at appropriate time
to better cooperate with hook scripts etc.
The actual diversion checking is performed from check_results.

An even better solution would be to collect and store the diversion
info together with root_info.

FIXME: needs --save-end-meta support

Bug#647765: galax: FTBFS on hurd-i386: OS/host not recognized

2011-11-05 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: galax
Version: 1.1-9
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd

Hi,

currently[1], galax fails to build on GNU/Hurd.

The problem is due to the host not recognized when setting OS-specific
commands and extensions in configure.
The attached patch adds also the case for Hurd (trying to avoid a too
broad match of the "gnu" string), making galax compile fine.

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=galax&arch=hurd-i386&ver=1.1-9&stamp=1317000518

Mh, probably. By the way:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol Tcl_Eval used by
debian/tclreadline/usr/lib/libtclreadline-2.1.0.so found in none of the
libraries.

It’s probably a plugin, do they get special handling so dpkg-shlibdeps
doesn’t emit such warnings? Or should it get linked against tcl? (No
real interest in this, just noticing, with my “human buildd” hat on.)

I'll confirm that this fixes all the test cases I can think of, including the
original xli problem.

Would it hurt to also fix fbCopyArea so that unexpected depth mismatches do
something cleaner than segfault?

It seems to be a trivial update for cycle. I am planning to upload it in
the next 3-4 days with a full packaging update.

I don't think that dak allows you to introduce new ar members it
doesn't know about. If it does, that's certainly a bug.

Bug#647763: Does not update initramfs when disabling initramfs integration

2011-11-05 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: ntfs-3g
Version: 1:2011.4.12AR.7-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

I previoulsy had NTFS3G_INITRAMFS="true" but decided that I don't need
ntfs-3g in the initramfs. So I ran dpkg-reconfigure ntfs-3g and chose to
disable intramfs integration.

This set NTFS3G_INITRAMFS=false in /etc/default/ntfs-3g but
update-initramfs was *not* called. So ntfs-3g is still active in the
installed initramfs.

Problem is, that postinst only runs update-initramfs, if
NTFS3G_INITRAMFS=true. It should also run update-initramfs, if old value
of NTFS3G_INITRAMFS != new value of NTFS3G_INITRAMFS.

As far as I can tell it is not, as clojure-contrib also needs to be on the
CLASSPATH. That being said, I already fixed that bug and uploaded a new
version of leiningen to mentors and hope that it will be sponsored soon.

I've attached the corresponding quilt patch to this mail and you can get the
updated Debian package with:

No, and I've even plenty physical RAM free (my machine has 4 GB

No, the only dmesg messages I get after the boot are

dell_wmi: Received unknown WMI event (0x11)

and according to /var/log/kern.log, then don't occur at the same time.

> Does alt-sysrq + t (after echo-ing 1 to /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq to

Nothing happens.

OK, I'm going to try that (I have 2.6.39-1, 2.6.39-2 and 3.0.0-1 also
installed).

When the problem occurs, the mouse can still move and I can switch
the desktop with the window manager (fvwm). But applications like
xterm and iceweasel are frozen (e.g. typing in xterm has no effect
until the disk is no longer accessed).

Hello again,

Current master looks good to me, it can IMO be uploaded.
There is a pristine-tar branch, one can run
  pristine-tar checkout ../oce_0.7.0.orig.tar.gz

well, it's indeed a bug in spyder that it doesn't declare the correct
relationship with other pkgs (it doesn't even say it needs
libwebkit...)

> Maybe a Break should be added to libqtwebkit4 to avoid installation of the

I think better a conflict on spyder side.

while there might be a bug on the qt4 side, there's one for sure on
the spyder side too, so if you want file another one, but this one is
still valid for spyder.

What is the output of ldd /usr/lib/php5/20090626/pgsql.so

Thanks. Are you low on swap? Does dmesg say anything interest when
this happens? Does alt-sysrq + t (after echo-ing 1 to
/proc/sys/kernel/sysrq to avoid the paranoid check) say anything
interesting? If nothing along those lines help, can you bisect (e.g.,
starting by trying 2.6.39 for a while)?

Hope that helps,

do you have the version before and after ?
that way I should prevent spyder to be installed with the wrong libqtwebkit4

> I don't know, maybe ask the QT4 maint?

I will look for the libqtwebkit4 bugs for now

> Well, you'd have to check if the version in testing of

I un-install all the qt4 library from my unstable box then switch to testing
repository
and re-install spyder 2.0.12 from testing. guest what it works out of the box.
then I upgraded to spyder 2.1.1 and it was also ok.

so it seems that spyder segfault for a faulty combination of python-qt4 /
libqtwebkit4.
I doesn not seems to me that this is a spyder bug.
Maybe a Break should be added to libqtwebkit4 to avoid installation of the
faulty combination

I will forward this bug to python-qt4 if you are ok with my "analyse".

Cheers,

Fred

Bug#636599: lintian: warning for using (bouncing) maintainer addresses

2011-11-05 Thread Arno Töll
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

tags 636599 +patch
thanks

Hello,
I'm proposing two new tags for Lintian:

* maintainer-address-causes-mail-loops-or-bounces
* upload-address-causes-mail-loops-or-bounces
(also known as "paultag-tribute-tag")

They do both the same for the Maintainer and Uploaders field
respectively. They check whether the e-mail addresses causes a mail
loop, e.g. by setting either maintainer address to
pack...@packages.debian.org.

Moreover, while I was at it, Niels also pointed me to this bug which is
somehow related and fixed along by introducing a new data store of known
addresses which bounce back mails.

The patch is disabled in the Ubuntu profile by default.

What else are we supposed to take it as? It's hardly praise.

I doubt crackling noise is considered a feature or more functionality,

As of 1.6.5.2-1, I no longer observe this bug.

Consider, e. g.:

Bug#647761: Depends: logrotate is unnecessary for mgetty

2011-11-05 Thread Ivan Shmakov
Package: mgetty
Version: 1.1.36-1.6

The dependency on logrotate is mostly superfluous and may be
inconvenient for the users of the package which use alternative
log rotation mechanisms.

It seems that there's a consensus (e. g., [1]) that merely
having a /etc/logrotate.d/ file is not a good justification for
having Depends: on logrotate (consider, e. g., the dpkg package,
whose control file has no mention of logrotate, despite that the
package provides a logrotate.d/ file.)

I thus suggest that the dependency on logrotate should either be
downgraded (to Recommends: or Suggests:), or removed altogether.

TIA.

The package's Description: reads:

The main goal of OpenSFX therefore is to provide a set of free

AIUI, the above compares OpenSFX, preasumably both copyrighted

be synthetized from strings that describe its notes, chords,
instruments, etc., or can be generated in real-time in many different
 ways.

JFugue supports playing music in real time as well as saving it to
MIDI files or send it to MIDI devices.

Rationale: is a dependency of the new version of GeoGebra.

Bug#647570: debian-policy: Conformance of Chapter 5 to RFC 2119.

2011-11-05 Thread Raphael Hertzog
On Sat, 05 Nov 2011, Bill Allombert wrote:
> Of course entities are translatable. What are you actually wanting to say ?

Well, nowadays we expect to handle translations just with PO files. And in
this context, you're expected to keep an entity between the original
string and the translated one.

"a package &must; have a version"
"un paquet &must; avoir une version"

This won't work, so the translators would have to use "un paquet DOIT
avoir une version" (i.e. replacing the entity with its translated value).
Or we would have to add entities for all translations... or we would have
to have localized definitions of all entities (likely without using PO
files but some custom mechanism).

None of this is really clean IMO and it's really abusing entities
for a weird goal ("allowing people to generate a version of the policy
without uppercase").

While Leiningen itself does not use Clojure Contrib, many plugins do,
and the upstream includes it. Perhaps it should be listed as a regular
dependency rather than a Recommended?

A workaround is to manually install clojure-contrib for now.

However, there is already an error message that isn't that bad all it is

Bug#626066: Private locale was broken

2011-11-05 Thread Richard Kettlewell
A bit of stracing reveals that the shell issuing the message is being
executed like this:

"LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8"]) = 0

LOCPATH seems to be the key thing:

richard@araminta:~/src/3rd/lintian$ LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 /bin/sh -c true
richard@araminta:~/src/3rd/lintian$ LOCPATH=/var/lib/lintian/locale
LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 /bin/sh -c true

/bin/sh: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8)

I purged and reinstalled lintian, which regenerated the private locale,
and it now seems to be behaving. So the bug was presumably in the
generation of the private locale.

Bug#640235: debarchiver: Several improvements for english man page

2011-11-05 Thread Valéry Perrin
Hello Ola,

In this mail there is:
1/ the french update translation : fr.po
2/ the french update addendum : debarchiver.add.fr

based on 0.9.8. version in unstable.

There is also,
1/ the updated makefile to generate and install the german translation :
Makefile
2/ the updated po4a config file for handle the german translation : po4a.cfg

But missing the german addendum. If Helge Kreutzmann provide this, put
this in po4a directory and just add "add_de:./debarchiver.add.de" to the
end of the last line in po4a.cfg file.

This two last files are not perfect (but works fine) but I do not have
time to do better immediatly, especially if there would be many other
languages.

By the way, there is a typo error in original man page. You wrote
"configuratiln" instead "configuration" in string #80. Dont correct this
immediatly, because the translated strings becoming "fuzzy".

Best regards

Bug#647757: cultivation: Game ending: promised "rewards" do not materialise

2011-11-05 Thread cfr
Package: cultivation
Version: 9+dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

Although I'm not certain, I *think* I've twice managed to "close the
gate". In both cases, I managed to create a large, pulsating shiny thing
by having different gardeners die so rings built up. I then moved my
next gardener into the shining area and that gardener disappeared. (In
one case, the gardener was about to die but not in the other.) This
leaves me as my next gardener on the island with no shining area and
with no rings created by additional deaths.

According to the instructions, something is then supposed to appear in
my "Cultivation folder". I'm not sure where this is meant to be but I
don't appear to have one under my home directory and (as expected)
nothing additional appears in any of the main system Cultivation
folders.

Perhaps I'm missing something but, if so, I think some indication of
where to look for the folder would be good. If not, something is not
working quite right after the gate is closed.

  Description : bindings for radare2

The project aims to create a complete, portable, multi-architecture,
unix-like toolchain for reverse engineering.

It is composed by an hexadecimal editor (radare) with a wrapped IO
layer supporting multiple backends for local/remote files, debugger
(osx,bsd,linux,w32), stream analyzer, assembler/disassembler (rasm)
for x86,arm,ppc,m68k,java,msil,sparc code analysis modules and
scripting facilities. A bindiffer named radiff, base converter (rax),
shellcode development helper (rasc), a binary information extracter
supporting (pe, mach0, elf, class, ...) named rabin, and a block-based
hash utility called rahash.

The bindings consist of vapi bindings for vala, which are converted to
bindings for many other languages by valabind and swig. They are not
part of the radare2 core package, because they depend on libradare2-dev
being installed into the system.

Yes, and unfortunately the plugin is more or less unmaintained. If noone
steps up at Xfce for that, I guess the only solution will be to remove
it for all Debian versions...

Right now, I guess it could be worth waiting with the bug open an

Bug#646774: Correction: possible to plant (in the water?!)

2011-11-05 Thread cfr
Package: cultivation
Version: 9+dfsg1-1
Followup-For: Bug #646774

Correction: It *is* possible to plant but it is necessary to plant in
(certain parts of) the water. That is, there is no land but some parts
of the water behave like water (you can pick water up etc.) and others
behave like land (you can plant seeds in it, poison it etc.).

I assume that there is actually land but that for some reason it either
looks just like water or is invisible. I looked at a screenshot on the
sourceforge homepage and my island looks nothing like that. (Indeed, my
island looks like nothing at all.)

Obviously makes it trickier to plant since the only way to find a bit of
ground is to move around randomly and similarly for finding water. And
obviously it is impossible to know whether the soil is light or dark.
Just have to stick a seed in the middle of the ocean and hope for the
best!

Bug#646366: Quadrapassel: un-clickable menus make the game unplayable

2011-11-05 Thread Art Ortenburger IV
Package: quadrapassel
Version: 1:3.0.2-2
Followup-For: Bug #646366

Dear Maintainer,

I can report the same problem on Debian Wheezy amd64. Graphics card is a
Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X, using the r600g driver from git (not
Debian's). Behavior has been observed in the Xfce DE; others were not tested.

Menus do not display when clicked, and there are no responses from the user
interface. It seems to be running -- the UI redraws properly when the window is
resized -- but is otherwise useless.

One series of errors is printed to the terminal:
(quadrapassel:14218): Clutter-WARNING **: The required ID of 1523831 does not
refer to an existing actor; this usually implies that the pick() of an actor is
not correctly implemented or that there is an error in the glReadPixels()
implementation of the GL driver.

The number of the required ID is not consistent. These messages seem to appear
inconsistently several seconds after attempted interaction with the user
interface.

Bug#646196: qemu-kvm: Crashes with Linux 3.x

2011-11-05 Thread Hae-woo Park
Thank you for your kind words.
And I really agree with you in
that kvm should better report error conditions.
So here, I attach more information which might or might not be a hint.

Since I could get any help from vger, so I try to find the bug with
gdb by myself.
Because I do not know much about the kernel, I just traced the kvm executable.

The segmentation fault was occured in kvm-all.c:1073 (kvm_vm_ioctl()),
and its caller was kvm-all.c:215 (kvm_init_vcpu()).
At that time, kvm_state is already null, so that s (==kvm_state) is
delivered as null to the callee.
The grand-caller was cpus.c:792 (qemu_kvm_cpu_thread_fn()).
As you know, many functions in qemu-kvm are just based on kernel
API's, so I had to stop tracing then.
Anyway, we may add some guard code around those lines to avoid
segmentation faults,
even if it is not a really good solution.

I really appreciate you.
Have a good weekend !

Regards,
Hae-woo Park.

Ok. The diff previously attached is the result of:

debdiff rng-tools_2-unofficial-mt.13-3.dsc \
   rng-tools_2-unofficial-mt.14-1~60squeeze1.dsc

Therefore, it is the full diff of the proposed upload (built on stable)
against the current stable package.

The noise is there because I screwed up in the 2-unofficial-mt.14
*upstream* tarball, and somehow shipped it without the autoconf output.
The large diff is recording the fact that config.sub/config.guess/
aclocal.m4/configure are missing in the upstream tarball.

That stuff is regenerated in the Debian build anyway, so it doesn't matter
at all for the Debian packages. I don't think anyone but Debian and
Ubuntu uses this fork of rng-tools, so nobody complained and I did not
notice the problem until very recently.

Here's a diff with the noise removed.

Packaging is on the debian branch of
http://www.project-moonshot.org/git/radsecproxy.git

I'm certainly happy to give you a git account there. I suspect once we
fix the remaining security issues for the moonshot gss mechanism we'll
probably be using moonshot authentication for our moonshot work. I'd
rather not have to use both Alioth credentials and whatever Moonshot
credentials we end up with in the same project so I'd probably want a
compelling reason before moving the debian packaging to a different
place than the rest of the moonshot sources.

Bug#646196: qemu-kvm: Crashes with Linux 3.x

For fun, it was the same motherboard where I did many experiments
with kvm some time ago. But I upgraded BIOS right away, because
of some unrelated thing (I think it was something to do with
automatic CPU fan speed control, but I don't remember anymore),
so I had no issues like this there.

It's sad I don't have this board anymore - it'd be a nice experiment
to find out what's wrong with it + kvm. Kvm should better report
error conditions, especially in such obscure situations, and
definitely should not crash like you observed. -- The last part,
crash after problem enabling kvm in kernel - is still a problem.

> You may close this bug.

No, I think it should stay for now, due to second part of it which
is really a bug which is still present - it should not crash.

> I really thank you, and sorry for bothering you.

It is very difficult to know where the problem is. If kvm had better
error reporting, maybe this whole thing didn't exist and you didn't
have all this issues which you had.

Thank you for your patience!

Bug#647750: linux-source-2.6.32: keyboard.c: 8 bits diacritics are displayed as a 7 bits representation after a space

2011-11-05 Thread Bjarni Ingi Gislason
Package: linux-source-2.6.32
Version: 2.6.32-35squeeze2
Severity: normal

Diacritics, that are 8 bits (accent (´, 0xB4), dieresis (¨,
0xA8), cedilla (¸, 0xB8)), are displayed as their 7 bits
representation ('",) if a space is input after them.

In the subroutine "handle_diacr" in "drivers/char/keyboard.c" is:

if ((d & ~0xff) == BRL_UC_ROW) {
if ((ch & ~0xff) == BRL_UC_ROW)
return d | ch;
} else {
for (i = 0; i < accent_table_size; i++)
if (accent_table[i].diacr == d && accent_table[i].base
== ch)
return accent_table[i].result;
}

if (ch == ' ' || ch == (BRL_UC_ROW|0) || ch == d)
return d;

Thus after space, the "d" (in the accent_table; compose part)
is returned instead of the real (8 bit) character.

Thanks for the detailed bug report!

Given it only happens under certain conditions/type of configurations,
I'm downgrading to important.

Will forward the issue upstream.

Well but then it would be enough for gnome-shell to depend on it.

And one should perhaps try to, whether it's easy to patch it, that it
does not longer depend on it, cause this is really stupid.

And yes I know Stefan's argument, that we're just packagers... but we
change/improve so many things... why not here, if upstream makes stupid
decisions.

> I believe the Gnome packaging team would be happy to accept more members
> if somebody wants to work on this and keep maintaining it.
You shouln't take my comments as criticism or offense on the gnome
packagers... they do a great job and I guess most people appreciate
this.
Gut given that we know that they're quite competent and given that (in
the view of many people) upstream has gone a bit mad... it's not
unreasonable to ask them, to give the users their freedom back.

> I suggest you file a bug about it so it can be fixed. (I didn't find
> one filed by you at least, but I didn't look very hard.)
No I haven't yet... I suffer from so many small and nasty problems since
gnome3, that I even don't know where to start.
And most of the "bugs" are upstream anyway and I guess we all know their
stance on "more features/functionality".

I mean we all know the heavy criticism that takes place upstream, about
GNOME shell, etc.
It's surely not useful to repeat this here.
No matter who's right, one thing is certain IMHO... all the "old" ways
(like having panels and so)... or e.g. not having NM, but managing this
e.g. via ifupdown alone... were proven workflows for years or decades.
Forcing users to switch because upstream believes it know better, is not
just wrong, but also arrogant.

I don't see why.
E.g. I installed my gnome-core without gnome-packagekit... and it works
just fine... and I'm also quite sure that there's no need for many other
things (epiphany,.. etc. etc.) I've configured to be never used, and
gnome never somehow started automagically.

Well but then you admit,... that it was not added because it's really
needed, aren't you?!
And btw: I use NM now too on my notebooks, I reported things to the BTS
which for me still don't work,... but nevertheless, I don't like people
being more or less "forced" to use it.

And what starts as deps in meta-packages easily out-grows to real hard
deps from other packages.

Bug#647747: network-manager-openvpn-gnome: segfaults when using a private key with a password

2011-11-05 Thread Rodolfo Gouveia
Package: network-manager-openvpn-gnome
Version: 0.9.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
When configuring a new openvpn connection (certificates tls) with
a private key with a password, the nm-connection-editor exits.
Just selecting the key and not even configuring all the rest is enough.
This doesn't happen if the private key has no password.
All tests were done using -testing and I can reproduce this on other
machines as well.

Running under a terminal I can see a segfault:

Bug#647746: console-setup: Changed "$KMAP" causes new compilation of "cached.kmap.gz"

2011-11-05 Thread Bjarni Ingi Gislason
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.68+squeeze2
Severity: wishlist

If the variable $KMAP is changed in the file
"/etc/default/keyboard", the file "cached.kmap.gz" is
unnecessarily created.

The execution of "ckbcomp" takes some time so the user should
be informed. Also if there is something unusual going on.

Bug#647742: ITP: libradsec - RADIUS over TLS/DTLS/UDP/TCP library

2011-11-05 Thread Faidon Liambotis

Hi Sam,

Hope you're well.

Are you planning on putting the packaging efforts for this on git
somewhere (e.g. collab-maint?). If so, I'd be happy to contribute, if
help is needed, either now or when the merging effort with radsecproxy
starts.

Best regards,
Faidon

Bug#647745: Make mk-build-deps packages arch-dependent when --arch is passed

2011-11-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.11.1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: precise origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch

Hi folks,

I've been happily using mk-build-deps for a while now since it was first
pointed out to me. But the packages that it generates can only be used for
native package builds, not for cross-package builds using multiarch. The
attach patch addresses this by causing mk-build-deps to always treat any
--arch argument as authoritative.

Cheers,

Subject: [PATCH] Always make mk-build-deps packages arch-dependent when
 --arch is passed

When an --arch argument is passed to mk-build-deps, we should output an
architecture-dependent package even if there are no architecture-dependent
build-dependencies, so that cross-installing the package in a multiarch
environment does the right thing.

Bug#647744: Should split translations to a separate package

2011-11-05 Thread David Paleino
Package: josm
Severity: minor

Hello team,
in reference to #647721, I noticed a big change in size for the josm binary
package:

$ ls -lah josm_0.0.svn4550+dfsg*deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 david david 4,4M nov 5 17:18 josm_0.0.svn4550+dfsg1-1_all.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 david david 13M nov 5 18:28 josm_0.0.svn4550+dfsg2-1_all.deb
$

It would be nice if we could split all those languages to a separate josm-l10n
package, with josm Recommending it (I don't dare to say josm-lang-,
since they would be something like ~70 packages). This way, people wanting a
working josm (in English), will only have to download 4M of data; anyone who
wants a different language should get the josm-l10n package.

The best thing would be if JOSM supported compiled .mo files, installed
under /usr/share/locale/, so that tools like localepurge(8) work fine (i.e. I
install josm-l10n, but only get languages I'm interested in).

David

Bug#647742: ITP: libradsec - RADIUS over TLS/DTLS/UDP/TCP library

2011-11-05 Thread Sam Hartman
package: wnpp
severity: wishlist

URL: libradsec branch of http://www.project-moonshot.org/gitweb/radsecproxy.git
URL2: http://software.uninett.no/radsecproxy/
Description: libradsec is a library for RADIUS clients and servers
This library features support for RADSEC (RADIUS over TLS/DTLS) as well as
TCP and UDP transports.

License: The following license is a bit misleading because there are
GPL dependencies. So effectively libradsec is distributed under GPL2+. However,
the intent is to remove the GPL dependencies in the near future and so the
license will look more like
The source code is licensed under two different licenses, a 3-clause
BSD license and the GNU General Public License (version 2 or later).
Users of this library may choose which of these suits them best.

I'm packaging libradsec because Moonshot
(http://www.project-moonshot.org/) depends on it. It has not been
formally released yet. It's sort of related to radsecproxy that is
already in Debian in that eventually, libradsec may be used as a
library by radsecproxy. At that point it might make sense for the
libradsec and radsecproxy source packages to be combined. Today,
although they come from the same git repository, they come from
different branches and different places in the directory tree. There
are a couple of header files in common.

I cannot upload libradsec to unstable until libevent 2.x makes its way
into unstable.

Bug#517915: OneSwarm Debian package

2011-11-05 Thread Bertrand Marc

Dear OneSwarm developers,

I am a happy OneSwarm user, thank you for your work. I'd like to make a
OneSwarm package for Debian (it would also work for Ubuntu). But to make
it into Debian, I need a bit of help on two issues :

First, could you tell me from where does come the file
build/f2f-libs/publickey-client.jar ? Where can I find it, its sources
and its license ? A Debian package can't rely on file without sources,
so this is mandatory to enter Debian.

Since Debian is very careful with copyright issues, I also have to ask
the license and copyright (the authors) of every file in the git
repository. Some of them have explicit headers, but some (for instance
in javatests/*, oneswarm_f2f/src/edu/*, oneswarm_gwt_ui/*,
oneswarm_az_mods/*, ant-custom/*) have no license and no copyright line
(with year and authors). It would be great if you could add the
appropriate headers. if this is too much work, could you at least
confirm me (please cc 517...@bugs.debian.org) that every file with no
headers are yours and released under the GPL ?

Best regards,
Bertrand Marc
