Bug#681002: release.debian.org: Freeze exception for libguestfs

There have been three minor upstream releases since 1.18.1. The project
is based around autoconf/automake (57 Makefile.am files), and much of
the source code for the various language bindings is automatically
generated, so there are more than a few "false positives".

If this is still not acceptable, what about a 1.18.2-2wheezy1 that just
fixes #678977 (upgrade breakage due to multiarch change), #680885,
#680886 (multiarch coinstall)?

Cheers,
-Hilko

I tried to get that with «readlink -f» but it doesn't print anything
in this case. This is because "../../../javascript" doesn't exist.

I have all these exactly as you noted. However, my report was for
"plugins" directory not for "program".

2012-05-03 14:52:55 upgrade roundcube 0.5.4+dfsg-1~bpo60+1 0.7.1-1~bpo60+1
(at the same time it started to depend on libjs-jquery-ui)

Looking at the last message from bug #656886 I see that you assumed
/var/lib/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui is a symlink but in reality it is
not. Nor is the plugins directory (from var). The symlink to "/var" is
in /usr/share/roundcube:
| plugins -> /var/lib/roundcube/plugins
| skins -> /var/lib/roundcube/skins

Cheers

How long do you think you will need to reverse engineer the protocol
if you would have the hardware?
Depending on how long you think you might need, and how much it would
cost me to ship my laptop to you (where are you located?), would it
help if I simply ship my laptop to you?

I can't do that right now, but might be able to do that in a few months.

Rik

Bug#652946: busybox tar fails to copy filesystem.squashfs

2012-07-09 Thread Rui Bernardo
I was going to prepare another patch but I hold myself this time...

I've searched what was creating those directories in the /target/. Turns
out to be /lib/partman/finish.d/20mount_partitions from partman-target [1].

That code isn't touched since 2007 and creates the var/run and var/lock
directories in /target.

I'm not sure if /var/run and /var/lock still need to be created in
/target since debian policy changed for those directories. As Michael
pointed out, they are links now.

If the directories still need to exist for another package other than
live-installer or for anything else, then we should patch live-installer
to "rmdir /target/var/run /target/var/lock" before extracting the squashfs.

If not, maybe it should be partman-target that should stop creating
those directories.

What do you guys think?

I don't see the point. But do let us know (in a new bug report) if and when
there are substantial bug fixes or new hardware support.

I can't reproduce it on Wheezy, so it's probably best to jus close it.

I'm sorry, I can't quite tell what you're asking. If you're asking for a
way to enable edge scrolling without having a functioning touchpad
driver, I don't know of any. I doubt it's even possible to detect that
you're near the edge of the touchpad with only relative motion events.

I'm afraid it's just not practical to do this remotely. Being able to
physically interact with the touchpad is pretty crucial.

Bug#679347: regression: 3.4 broke spool mbox file accounts

2012-07-09 Thread Adrian Kiess
Package: evolution
Version: 3.4.3-1

Dear Maintainer,

I can confirm that by upgrading evolution from version 3.2 to 3.4 from
Debian/testing it is not possible anymore to read e-mails from an account using
"Standard Unix mbox spool file".
It just displays "There are no messages in this folder".
Using mutt -f /var/mail/account the messages are displayed correctly.

Can you please fix this bug.

Adrian

Bug#637471: How is the progress of this request?

2012-07-09 Thread Michael Großer
Hi!

When does tj3 come in Debian Sid?

According to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TaskJuggler
an official release of TaskJuggler 3 exists since 2010-07-05.

Since then, 2 years have elapsed. What prevents tj3 to be included into
Debian Sid, for example as a new package "tj3" without having to kick
the older tj2 project too early?

Best regards,
Michael Großer

Bug#681032: override: amd64-microcode:non-free/admin/standard

2012-07-09 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: override

amd64-microcode provides microcode patches to AMD processors, and should
ideally be installed by default on every system with an AMD AMD64
processor (regardless of whether it is running i386 or amd64
binaries/kernel). Unfortunately, it is non-free, but its priority
should still reflect the fact that it should be installed by default in
a system.

The package doesn't cause any issues on systems without an AMD
processor, and can be co-installed with the intel-microcode package.

It was initially uploaded with the wrong priority (extra) because of an
oversight. I will also request that package intel-microcode be upgraded to
priority standard on its next upload, as the same reasoning also applies to
intel-microcode.

Is this ok given that atleast pkgsel (d-i component) still uses aptitude?

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=d-i/pkgsel.git;a=blob;f=debian/postinst;hb=HEAD

(lines 85 and 148; this usage could be replaced with apt-get)

I am not able to locate any dependency on aptitude from pkgsel or it's
dependencies. Presumably it is pulled in with base-install via
debootstrap, due to it's (previous) priority.

Bug#679750: Lenovo G360: ALPS Touchpad Recognized as "PS/2 Generic Mouse"(with newly dmesg information)

Thanks.

Three things:
1, Can you provide a simple tutorial (or web page address) of how to
reverse-engineer a Linux ALPS driver if possible? I have very basic
programming knowledge(shell script, read basic C code except hardware
driver). Maybe, I can provide more detail hardware information about
this ALPS touchpad in this way?

2, Is there a tool, it can show the message when I operate on touchpad
edge scrolling? So, according to the output, it is able to get a dirty
solution about edge scrolling function of Lenovo G360 touchpad.
The funciton of "disable touchpad when typing" has a solution using
python script I have mentioned in the previous posts.

3, If you are interest in this and have time and it is helpful, I can
provide a root password for this laptop to you and run ssh service for
you all the time. Then you can operate this laptop via ssh connection
in this way. You can do anything on this machine even format the
disk :-)

Bug#656153: jspwiki does depend on tomcat6

2012-07-09 Thread tony mancill
In looking into this, I was confused to discover that the latest version
of jspwiki 2.8.0-5 uploaded to unstable actually does depend on tomcat6,
but didn't close #656153 in the changelog. (This is certainly my
mistake at the time of the upload.) So this problem did exist in the -4
version of the package, but doesn't for the version that is in sid (and
was in wheezy up until recently).

What are folks thoughts on trying to get jspwiki reinstated for wheezy?
The postinst could be made a bit more robust with a patch like the one
attached, but I don't think it makes a difference one way or another
with the direct dependency on tomcat6.

Thank you,
tony

Bug#596253: distcc: zeroconf fails when 'ccache' installed because compiler version

2012-07-09 Thread Daniel Hartwig
tags 596253 - patch
--

[Rejecting patch to hardcode 'cc --version' in distcc.]

The distcc user does have a non-sensible home. This will be
fixed. I include below some tips for users experiencing the
ccache + distcc + zeroconf issue.

> The reason for the failure is that 'ccache' installation
> recommends a symbolic link from 'cc' to 'ccache'…

Yes it does, in a *private* bin directory which should not
interfere with the system started distccd. It also suggests
to prepend /usr/lib/ccache to PATH as an alternative. Neither
of these alternatives gives specific consideration to using
ccache and distcc together. In particular, distccd does
expect that it is communicating directly with cc which is not
the case if a ccache symlink appears before cc in distccd's
PATH.

distcc/README.Debian gives the recommended setup for using
ccache and distcc together:

 conf 3) export DISTCC_HOSTS="localhost server1 server2 server3"
 export PATH=/usr/lib/ccache:$PATH
 export CCACHE_PREFIX=distcc
 make -j 8

which does not cause the described problem. The call stack is
then:

make: ccache: distcc: remote distccd: remote cc

It may still be useful however for an admin to install ccache
symlinks in a public directory, effectively setting ccache as
the default compiler (this is the situation reported in OP).
The call stack in that case is:

…: distcc: remote distccd: remote ccache: remote cc

The admin should decide whether the remote ccache call is
desired. In some situations it will be more efficient to
only use ccache locally and not on remote hosts.

Either way, this can be resolved by configuring certain
environment variables for ccache in /etc/default/distcc.

If the remote ccache call is *not* desired, add this:

 export CCACHE_DISABLE=1

otherwise, the admin should be sure to create a system-wide
ccache directory on each remote host and add:

 export CCACHE_DIR=/var/cache/ccache

This only applies to distccd started by the system, such as
with 'invoke-rc.d distcc start'. A user who manually starts
distccd on each host will have to take care of such variables.

However, I strongly recommend the setup mentioned first (from
distcc/README.Debian) which will work without trouble, rather
than either approach where distcc calls ccache.

Regards

Eugen Dedu wrote:

> Making a git bissect inside these versions will take me ages,

Fair enough. When's the last time it happened? Is the error always
"kobject_add_internal failed for BAT0 with -EEXIST"?

I tried searching the web for that message but you seem to be the only
one getting it in this circumstance. :) Alas.

If you can still reproduce it occasionally with some kernel, please
report the symptoms to linux-a...@vger.kernel.org, cc-ing either me or
this bug log so we can track it. Be sure to mention:

 - precise steps to reproduce, expected result, actual result, and
how the difference indicates a bug (should be simple enough)
 - how reproducible it is
 - which kernels you have tested and what happened with each
 - full "dmesg" output from booting an affected kernel, as an
   attachment or link
 - acpidump output, as an attachment or link
 - any other weird symptoms or workarounds

Hopefully someone there can suggest a way to figure out what is
happening, for example by applying some patch or enabling some
debugging feature to be ready for when it happens next.

Thanks again for a clear report, and sorry I have no better advice.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan

I'm not sure what is going on here but I happened to notice that you
have maxmem > memory (specifically memory = 2048 & maxmem = 4096).

This requires a balloon driver in the guest and for unmodified guests
such as Windows requires the use of PoD to bridge the gap between boot
and the driver getting loaded. You don't mention which drivers you are
using, but the bug is likely to be in them.

Bug#681028: libfilehandle-fmode-perl: FTBFS on Debian GNU/Hurd

2012-07-09 Thread Barry deFreese
Package: libfilehandle-fmode-perl
Version: 0.11-1
Severity: important
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd
Tags: patch

Hi,

Currently libfilehandle-fmode-perl fails to build on Debian GNU/Hurd due to
Hurd including O_RDONLY
in O_RDWR, etc.

Attached is a patch for building on Hurd. I have also tested the patch on
GNU/Linux on i386. I
haven't tested it on other archs/OSs.

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Bug#614101: Please use either serial console or a digital camera to collect the logs

I'm afraid there is not much which can be done with this otherwise.

Hints on setting up serial console can be found on the Xen wiki:
http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/XenSerialConsole

If you can please also try the Wheezy packages.

Thanks,
Ian.

Bug#517133: #517133 evolution: fails to remember imap password

2012-07-09 Thread Noël Köthe
Hello,

Status from upstream bugzilla:

--8<--

Matthew Barnes [reporter] [Evolution-Data-Server developer] 2012-06-10
14:00:59 UTC
The e-passwords API is deprecated as of Evolution 3.5.3. We have a much better
authentication API now for backends. Client apps no longer have to deal with
authentication at all.

Not worth an API break at this point. Closing as OBSOLETE.
--8<--

When evolution 3.5.3 or later arrives in Debian it should fix this bug as well.

It has been seen on homer during debconf, or at least something
that looks very simular to it. The machine was also doing around
50 MB/s.

I haven't seen the problem since I changed the setting.

In 4.2 the tap devices use the same hotplug scripts as the regular vif

I think you mean Ctrl+x Ctrl+f here.

A system without network-manager is still usable even for desktop users.

I mean, for example, when Pidgin opens, and n-m is not available, it
just tries to connect directly to internet. When pidgin opens, and n-m
is active pidgin waits to connect until n-m gets connected. Sometimes is
annoying because other network interfaces may be active with full
internet and pidgin waits until n-m reports ready.

A similiar experience happens with Evolution.

But, ignoring the "a desktop works fine without n-m" thing, n-m makes
more, much more easy connecting to wifi networks, espeacially for
laptops. I suggest make Laptop task depend on n-m, in this way, n-m
don't get installed on desktop systems, just on laptop systems.

Bug#681027: openjpeg-tools: Requires gconf2 for no good reason

2012-07-09 Thread GSR
Package: openjpeg-tools
Version: 1.3+dfsg-4.2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

up to 1.3+dfsg-4.1 this package did not require gconf2, it just
provided a config file for it, in case it was avaliable. Now it
requires installing gconf2 even if there is no app using it.

See the 1.3+dfsg-4 list of files for example, the 10_openjpeg-tools is
there too and goes fine with gconf2 listed as dependency:
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/amd64/openjpeg-tools/filelist

Please consider dropping the dependency. Many programs are in similar
situation, providing bash_completion config for example, but they do
not require bash.

Thanks.

DEHS reports the error and the PTS displays it. warnings: Use of
uninitialized value $3 in concatenation (.) or string at
/home/myon/devscripts/scripts/uscan.pl line 720, <WATCH> line 5.

is displayed on http://packages.qa.debian.org/b/bookview.html in the problems
section, which seems reasonable to me. Could you adjust your udd query to
capture the error? For that particular entry, your file has:

  {
"debian-mangled-uversion": null,
"upstream-version": null,
"package": "bookview",
"upstream-url": null,
"status": "error",
"debian-uversion": null
  }

and the obsolete DEHS file has:

-
  debian-mangled-uversion: 3.2.1
  debian-uversion: 3.2.1
  package: bookview
  status: up to date
  upstream-url:
ftp://ftp.sra.co.jp/pub/net/ndtp/bookview/bookview-3.2.1.tar.gz
  upstream-version: 3.2.1
warnings: Use of uninitialized value $3 in concatenation (.) or string at
/home/myon/devscripts/scripts/uscan.pl line 720, <WATCH> line 5.

It would be good to get whatever information we can, although status: up to
date as reported by DEHS is clearly wrong since there's no way to know.

I think you've also got an issue in your version mangling:

  {
"debian-mangled-uversion": "0.96.4",
"upstream-version": "0.97.5",
"package": "libclamunrar",
"upstream-url":
"status": "Newer version available",
"debian-uversion": "0.96.4"
  },

I"ve no idea where 0.96.4 comes from as it's current in Sid and Testing.
That's a version from October 2010.

Bug#681026: perl-modules: Installation of modules via CPAN fails due to broken dependency logic

Package: perl-modules
Version: 5.14.2-12
Severity: normal

When I try to install Sys::Info::Driver::Linux under my home directory
via CPAN while nothing is installed yet there, I get a failure saying
that some dependency is not OK, even though the module in question has
just been installed with success. A second try succeeds, though.

To reproduce the problem, remove the ~/perl5 directory if there is one,
and run the following script:

#!/bin/sh

if [ -d $HOME/perl5 ]; then
echo "Remove the perl5 directory for the test" >&2
  exit 1

  echo "Exit status: $?"
}

The first build fails, complaining that

Tests succeeded but one dependency not OK (Unix::Processors)

even though Unix::Processors has been installed with success (as seen

Bug#661538: Add support for Build-Depends-Stage1 in order to allow breaking of cyclic Build-depends loops

OK. I've looked at this again (finally) and I'm inclined to agree that
it seems a lot nicer than adding lots of Build-Depends-StageN fields.

As there are quite a lot of suggestions in the above doc, this is the
one I think Guillem is referring to and that seems good to me:

Set a 'profile' for a build. This could cover various needs including
the stageN bootstrap builds. I suggest the profile sould be set with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=profile=stage1 (rather than making up a new
variable DEB_BUILD_PROFILE).

 Build-Depends: huge, tiny
 Build-Depends[stage1]: tiny

+ Does not break current infrastrcture.
+ Allows alternatives as well as omitting build-deps
+ Does not overload existing syntax.
- Duplicates part of the original field, which has to be kept
in sync, although being side to side, it's easier to do than with
   a complete different whole directory.

This has exactly the same functionality as my existing patch but a
more versatile syntax/mechanism and should involve much less
repetition in the implementation.

The only disadvantage I can see is the removal of the explicit
ordering of 'stage=1, stage=2' but it's not hard for a bootstraping
tool to know that the profiles 'stage1' and 'stage2' are reserved for
this usage. We could even put it in policy.

I guess I should try implmenting it and see if there are any obvious
problems, but I can't see why there should be.

> Of course other possible alternatives other people might come up with

No argument from me there.

We'll discuss this at debconf this week and see if anyone dislikes
this idea.

Ah.

No, nvcc only picks 4.6 at best.

Another way is trying to cripple the source into not using the syntax
that nvcc doesn't support.

Bug#681025: [desktop-base] Put old themes in a new package named desktop-base-extra

2012-07-09 Thread Francesco Muzio

Package: desktop-base
Version: 7.0.0
Severity: wishlist

Dear maintainers,

Relatively to the bug #680502 please consider the idea to put, for any
new stable release, the old themes in a new package named
desktop-base-extra.

There are no reasons to purge an old theme who work well in a next release.

A cool theme deserves to be saved!

Thanks in any case

Ahh, I see. I think you're right -- that would have been a better
approach. I might attempt this for wheezy, but only if the release team
is amenable (assuming they're still willing to consider emacs24 at all,
if/when I can track down the i386 build failure).

In docbook-xsl/manpages/other.xsl:290 and 377 (see also
docbook-xsl/params/man.th.extra1.suppress.xml)

docbook emits build-time timestamps into man pages.
Since many packages build the manpages at every build,
if the package places them into arch-any packages the timestamp
breaks multi-arch.

Furthermore, the second timestamp, (man.th.extra1) is shown at
the bottom of the man page readout, and using the build-time rather
than the modify-time here is misleading.

Here is a patch against docbook-xsl to remove the first timestamp, but
I think a better solution would be to use the mtime of the .xml
file.

Bug#681023: aptitude: quit keybinding lost under some circumstances

2012-07-09 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.9-1~exp1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I experienced the following already with some earlier aptitude version,
but with 0.6.9 I ran into it nearly everytime I use the interactive
mode:

While "q" still closes open tabs, it no more quits the program and hence
the only chance to save my changes (e.g. marking stuff as automatically
installed) is to make some changes which result in installing or
removing a packages so that the state is saved on "gg".

How to more or less reproduce:

I ran into it today by pressing "[", moving the marker to
sysvinit-utils, pressing "M" and then looking around some more with
"Enter", "d" and "r" and then suddenly "q" didn't prompt me anymore if I
want to quit aptitude but just did nothing in the last open tab.

Same counts for the "Quit Q" entry from the menu.

The user found a bug in emacs and reported it against the emacs
package, which corresponds to the emacs24 source. But the real
bug was not in the emacs24 source, but in emacs23.

I don't see the point of having emacs from src:emacs24 depending
on emacs23. IMHO, you should have kept

Package: emacs
Source: emacs23
Version: 23.4+1-3

and the emacs24 source shouldn't have an emacs binary package until
it is ready to depend on emacs24.

Bug#681021: aptitude: Tries to use debtags even if debtags is not installed

2012-07-09 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.9-1~exp1
Severity: important

Hi,

aptitude 0.6.9 tries to use debtags even if debtags is not installed,
resulting (besides trying to build a tag database which 0.6.8 didn't
without debtags being installed) in the following error on (interactive)
startup:

E: Could not open file /var/lib/debtags/package-tags - open (2: No such file or
directory)

debtags is just a "Suggests"(*) of aptitude and hence it should be
handled as such.

(*) IMHO that should stay that way as debtags IMHO is a resource hog
which is not necessary on many systems.

I think we didn't know for sure that busybox was the to blame. Daniel
said the error is in busybox, not a busybox error.

Because this bug is hard to trace (got to build and rebuild several live
images), lack of time, etc, time passed... Anyway, as you pointed out,
it's not busybox. Thank you.

Thanks again for clearing the fog here :)

Following your pointers I've put a "sleep 2000" in
live-installer.postinst just _before_ the line "mkdir -p /target" and
then I've open tty2 console in debian-installer to check what was in
/target (see below).

I think the problem about redirecting the error messages is because
live-installer.postint extracts the filesystem in background with exec
4. The relevant part of postinst:

eval ${SUPPORT}_prepare
STEPS=$(eval ${SUPPORT}_count)

db_progress INFO live-installer/progress/copying

COUNT=0
OLD_IFS=$IFS
mkdir -p /target
exec 4>&0
tar c . | \
(chdir /target && tar xv) | \
(
while read line; do
COUNT=$(($COUNT + 1))
CURRENT=$(($COUNT * 100 / $STEPS))

[ x$CURRENT = x$LAST_UPDATE ] && continue

LAST_UPDATE=$CURRENT
db_progress STEP 1 <&4
done
)
exec 0>&4

I don't know if adding a "2>" or a "|tee -a" would work. It's a question
of trying it. It would really help in the future.

Thanks for this, I really thought it was something about links or
hardlinks in the squash filesystem all the time. Turns out that is
/target that is not empty when the extraction happens!

As I've said above, I've put a "sleep 2000" before "mkdir -p /target"
and SURPRISE (for me at least): /target, which I thought should be empty
because it is apparently created after partman has formated the
partitions (so I assumed completely empty), is _not_ empty:

root@quartor:~# tar tf target.tar.gz
./
./etc/
./etc/fstab
./lost+found/
./media/
./media/cdrom0/
./media/cdrom
./var/
./var/lock/
./var/run/

I've attached the tar file with what I've found in /target/ before the
extraction began.

I presume this must be something that line "eval ${SUPPORT}_prepare"
does.

Thank you very much!! Debian is just great :)

Bug#676312: pleiades: General update after the debconf review process

2012-07-09 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, June 06, 2012, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for pleiades.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Wednesday, June 06, 2012. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

hotplug: network-bridge: fix for interfaces with no gateway

This comes from an old Debian bug report
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=588477 which refers to
http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-users/2010-06/msg00420.html.

Although we no longer have a trap in _claim_lock as described (this was removed
in 25590:bb250383a4f5 "hotplug/Linux: use flock based locking") and the use of
network-* scripts is discouraged (in favour of using distro provided
mechanisms) the general principal that relying on the semantics of /bin/sh's &&
is unwise seems sound.

Hi.

It would be nice if you could add a colorwdiff.

Of course one can call
wdiff a b | colordiff

but that doesn't allow to set shell aliases like:
alias wdiffc=colorwdiff

Cheers,

Bug#680678: task-ssh-server: depend on 'ssh' instead of 'openssh-server'

2012-07-09 Thread Bob Bib
reopen 680678
thanks

Hello again,

the changes in 3.11 are somewhat pointless;
as for now, 'task-ssh-server':
- depends on:
openssh-server, tasksel
- recommends:
openssh-client [and it's pointless, because 'openssh-server' already _depends_
(not recommends!) on it].

Instead of making such redundant depandencies,
in my original bug report I've just suggested for 'task-ssh-server' to depend
only on 'ssh' metapackage :)

Bug#437127: [PATCH] hotplug: fix ip_of for systems using peer-to-peer link

2012-07-09 Thread Ian Campbell
# HG changeset patch
# User Ian Campbell

hotplug: fix ip_of for systems using a peer-to-peer link

This is from an old Debian bug at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=437127

I'm slightly inferring what the configuration which trigger this issue is, the
bug report says:

This code however fails if no slash is present in the address, which is the
case in my configuration:

$ ip addr show dev eth0
2: eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether 00:16:17:90:b4:35 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 88.198.12.XXX peer 88.198.12.XXX/32 brd 88.255.255.255 scope
global eth0

I hope either Marc or Stefan can correct me if I have surmised wrongly what
this configuration represents.

This function is used in the vif-route configuration.

Can somebody connect to the console too and see what you are doing, and
interfere with it?

The pointer doesn't show up in X terminals, but from the point of view
of applications, they get mouse events etc. from libgpm just as if they
were run on the linux console.

So I believe it's simply access to the hardware console.

And I'm on the contrary sure that all these ways fall into two
categories:

- access to the physical console (/dev/tty[1-9]), in which case you
already have access to it, type things, etc.
- access via network (ssh, telnet), or serial (/dev/ttyS0, etc.) in
which case you do not have access to the physical console.

> If the ioctl is part of the tty subsystem

It's only part of the VT subsystem.

Bug#681016: [release.debian.org] unblock: dotlrn/2.5.0+dfsg-8

Package: release.debian.org

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi Relase Team!

Please unblock package dotlrn. It fixes an important bug (#677060) and a minor
patch issue.

Unfortunately, and I apologize for that, the previous version (2.5.0+dfsg-7)
also included the migration of the package format to the new 3.0 one (#661038),
but didn't reach testing on time before the freeze, so the version now in
unstable (2.5.0+dfsg-8) also differs from the testing one (2.5.0+dfsg-6) in the
package format issue.

Please find in attachment the debdiff between testing and unstable versions.

Kind regards,

Héctor Romojaro

Ah? Ok... I never saw the gpm typical pointer in X terminals... and
always thought they'd work completely independent..

> Log how? Which tool?
On the nodes that I've tried now runs VMware (yes... sigh)... and there
it's some awkward proprietary browser plugin...

Well and that's the point I tried to emphasise before... one cannot now
by which way users use the systems,... but one can be sure that there
may be some that run into troubles.

Anyway...
Expecting you're right with the syscalls... (too busy now to look into
the code :-/ ) I'd agree that the issue cannot be solved in gpm itself.

But as long as a real solution is found (if ever accepted in the
kernel)... I'd say that gpm should warn it's users of this potential
security issue.
I can imagine amongst the following:
- a SECURITY file in /u/s/d/gpm that describes the issue (which should
probably distributed part of upstream)

specific to Debian:
- a shorter warning in the package description

- and maybe the same as in SECURITY via debconf
I know you probably don't like the later ;-) ... but I guess it's the
best chance to reach most (Debian) users.

Apart from what can be done (now) at a gpm level (i.e. warnings)... how
shall be proceeded?
Popping the issue up at lkml? Anyone with good connections?
If the ioctl is part of the tty subsystem chances are probably rather
bad to get things done... last time I read,... the subsystem was still
one of the don't-touch-miracles...

Cheers,
Chris.

Bug#681015: x11vnc: CAPS lock key doesn't work when viewing remote server

2012-07-09 Thread Hugh Davenport
Package: x11vnc
Version: 0.9.13-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I started using x11vnc and have noticed that the CAPS lock key does funky
stuff.

When viewing a remote server (started with tsvnc, or manually with x11vnc
and using any vncviewer to view it), the caps lock key appears to do
nothing. Then when I go back to host computer, CAPS is indeed toggled,
though this wasn't noticeable on the remote view. If i use CAPS in the host
machine, then go to the viewer, CAPS is toggled. This means I can get into
a state where the host has CAPS off and remote has CAPS on (or vice versa).

Doesn't have this issue with tightvncserver. Only tried with x11vnc reusing
the host DISPLAY, not creating a new one.

Viewers tried were tightvncviewer and the vncviewer that comes with ssvnc

Let me know if I can help more.

Cheers,

Hugh

Bug#681014: unblock: c3p0/0.9.1.2-7

2012-07-09 Thread Damien Raude-Morvan
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

c3p0 (0.9.1.2-7 - team upload) fix old FTBFS with gcj-jdk by using default-jdk
as compiler. There is also a patches/java-7-compat.patch which fix compat with
openjdk-6 and openjdk-7 (this patch is a bit large, but at least c3p0 will be
able to work partly on openjdk-{6,7}).

unblock c3p0/0.9.1.2-7

Bug#675266: Please try to reproduce with Xen 4.1 from Wheezy.

2012-07-09 Thread Ian Campbell
Hi Juergen,

I've had a trawl through the SuSE update but it's not clear which patch
might impact this issue. However SuSE are usually very good about
upstreaming their fixes so I think there is a very good chance this will
be fixed in the 4.1 packages in Wheezy. Are you able to give it a try?

Thanks,
Ian.

no, meta packages are not a super market.
And fwiw Adam is spreading a lot of FUD wrt to NM so I'm not
particularly interested in his opinion or whatever tests he apparently
did, sorry.

And yet this package description does have a DevRef-compliant
synopsis; I'm just trying to keep out any extra glitches.

It's not the "neo" in the package name that I'm worried about so much
as the "new Greek font family" in the synopsis.

No, apparently there is such a term, it's just obscure - see e.g.:

http://www.slideshare.net/nstrehlow/monoline-1079080

(meanwhile the online dictionaries tell me it's a kind of railway).
Oh, when the description says that New Hellenic is "round", does that
mean the letterforms or the pen tip? Either way, it's not much
information. Does it have serifs, for instance?

Ah, there's a lovely sample here:

No, "following the needs of the Classical Studies" is what the "old"
fonts were all about.

I say start with the information about what the font is like and then
go on to where it came from (throwing out almost all the details).

Description: new Greek font family with matching Latin
New Hellenic is a Greek font family characterized by round, even pen
strokes. It consists of several weights (normal, italic, bold and bold
italic) as well as a Latin version.
  .
Former Greek types had harked back to classical models. In 1927, Victor
Scholderer chose instead to revive one which had first appeared in a
1492 printing of Macrobius attributed to Joannes Rubeus. In 1993-4 the
typeface was digitized by the Greek Font Society, with the addition of a
  new set of epigraphic symbols.

Bug#671018: [Pkg-xen-devel] Bug#671018: Bug#671018: #671018 -- set tap device mac address in qemu-ifup

2012-07-09 Thread Pierre Colombier
Hi guys.
While we discuss of the best way to solve this problem, the problem remains.
It has already been sooo long...

I think changing the mac address of the tap interface is the easiest way.
It works perfectly and even if the random mac wasn't a problem i can't
think about any possible side effect.

Hi Lee,

Are you still seeing this issue with the latest 4.1 packages?

is so then please can you post /etc/xen/udevtest.cfg as requested by
Todd. Also the contents log /var/log/xen. In
particular /var/log/xen/xen-hotplug.log might contain some clues.

Thanks,
Ian.

That won't prevent any user from calling the ioctl. The ioctl is not
privileged. That should really be done in the kernel.

Such kinds of questions are quite frowned upon.

What does "use gpm" mean exactly? What does the "tty" command return?
Is the content of the consoles exactly the same as what's physically
displayed on the machine?

I can "use gpm" in my xterms for instance, but copy/paste is entirely
done by X11.

> And it's the same if you remotely log in on the consoles of VMs.

Log how? Which tool? There are a plethora of ways to access a machine
with very varying effects.
