Bug#717028: liferea should depend on gnome-icon-theme

2013-07-17 Thread Adrian Bunk
On Wed, Jul 17, 2013 at 11:44:38AM +0800, David Smith wrote:
...
Consider that a depends on gnome-icon-theme is added, then liferea
isn't going to be installable unless the default gnome-icon-theme is
installed. This doesn't make any sense as some people might want to
 use gnome-icon-theme-nuovo or gnome-icon-theme-suede or
gnome-icon-theme-yasis or gnome-icon-theme-gartoon instead which do
 *NOT* provide gnome-icon-theme.

Using these alternative gnome themes without the default
gnome-icon-theme would make liferea uninstallable, if a depends on
gnome-icon-theme is added, even though liferea would work just fine :(

Let me repeat something I already wrote in this bug:

-- snip --

For non-GNOME users of GNOME applications a dependency on
gnome-icon-theme can prevent serious problems.

When you have a full GNOME installed, gnome-icon-theme is anyway always
installed.

-- snip --

The case you are arguing about is about possibly saving a few MB of disk
space in a case where a user is using a non-standard GNOME icon theme
*and* he is *not* using a full GNOME.

Is that 0.1% of all Liferea users or 0.01% of all Liferea users that
might not need gnome-icon-theme?

And I want to emphasize that gnome-icon-theme does for such users as few
harm as the 400MB of translations on my disk do for me.

And yes, gnome-icon-theme and the translations are related issues:
If you would actually be serious in wanting to save a few MB on the
disks of people installing liferea, then splitting liferea-data into
2 packages would benefit much more users than not depending on
gnome-icon-theme. [1]

Then finally... Liferea is *NOT* showing you the wrong icons if you
don't have gnome-icon-theme installed. Rather, it's just using the
GTK_STOCK icons instead of gnome theme icons. This appears to be
 intentional / planned by upstream.
...

Exactly the same is true when the translation for the language of your
choice is not installed (as is intentional / planned by upstream,
English messages are displayed instead of translated messages), so
please start with getting translations splitted out of *all* packages in
Debian if you really believe in what you wrote.

Adrian

[1] I don't think that would be a good idea, but allowing users to save
disk space is your intention here you must do it.

Bug#717128: extlinux: Wrong sorting of multiple linux kernel images in /boot

2013-07-17 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: extlinux
Version: 2:4.05+dfsg-6+deb7u1
Severity: normal

The script /usr/sbin/extlinux-update sorts the kernels it finds in /boot
with the following shell code:

(cd /boot  ls vmlinuz-* | grep -v .dpkg-tmp | sed -e 's|vmlinuz-||g' | sort
-nr)

I believe the intention is to put the latest keenel first, as that is
how the corresponding script for grub2 behaves. But alas:

 [16+1]~$ ( echo 9 ; echo 10 ) | sort -nr
10
9
 [17+1]~$ ( echo 3.9.9 ; echo 3.9.10 ) | sort -nr
3.9.9
3.9.10

and thus also

 [18+1]~$ (cd /boot ls vmlinuz-* | grep -v .dpkg-tmp | sed -e
's|vmlinuz-||g' | sort -nr)
3.9.9
3.9.10

Clearly, the script needs to be a bit smarter about sorting the version
numbers, perhaps creatively reusing some code from the grub or dpkg
packages.

Crap, that was intended only for the epiphany-browser discussion.

Bug#715024: [Dctrl-tools-devel] Bug#715024: dctrl-tools: Surprising behaviour of -w -P

2013-07-17 Thread Antti-Juhani Kaijanaho
On Fri, Jul 05, 2013 at 05:06:03PM +0200, Christopher Huhn, GSI wrote:
 I just stumbled upon grep-available -w -P libstdc++6 not finding any

Obviously '+' signs are not treated as literals but regex operators and
 consequently
 grep-available -w -P 'libstdc\+\+6' properly locates the package.
 grep-available -X -P libstdc++6 works as anticipated by me.

 Is this the expected behaviour?
If so maybe the manpage should be a bit more verbose about the exact
 semantics
 (and possible use) of -w.

The manpage says this about -w:

   -w, --whole-pkg
Do an extended regular expression match on whole package names,
assuming the syntax of inter-package relationship fields such as
Depends,Recommends, ... When this flag is given you should not
worry about sub-package names such as libpcre3 also matching
libpcre3-dev. This flag implies (and is incompatible with) -e.

The idea is, if I recall correctly, to allow you to see if a particular package
name (and not some other package name that happens to contain it as a
substring) occurs in a Depends field. See #383921 for background.

Combining -w with -P isn't particularly useful, as the Package field does not
use Depends syntax. You may want to use -PX instead.

However, I note the man page excerpt above says an extended regular expression
match and This flag implies (and is incompatible with) -e which to me pretty
clearly seems to say that the pattern must follow eregexp syntax.

Can you suggest a clearer wording?

Bug#703092: dpkg: And please add 'dependency on dselect'

2013-07-17 Thread Klaus Ita
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.16.10
Followup-For: Bug #703092

Dear Maintainer,

I agree with the bug report and would like to add that a simple rewrite of the
man-file might reduce a lot of frustration.

I was used, in the past, to 'clone' my setups via

ssh goodhost -- dpkg --get-selections | dpkg --set-selections -

or the like. now lately, i have been frustrated with the command as it threw
many many 'missing packages' errors like:

'dpkg: warning: package not in database at line 1874 ...'

Only now i found out that you need `dselect` for this to work. A little
mention of this might be cool in the man-file.

== snip

To make a local copy of the package selection states:
dpkg --get-selections myselections

You might transfer this file to another computer, and install it there
   with:
apt-get install dselect # these two lines are to get your
dselect update # dselect repository up-to-date
dpkg --clear-selections
dpkg --set-selections myselections

Note that this will not actually install or remove anything, but just
set the selection state on the requested packages. You will need some
other application to actually download and install the requested pack‐
ages. For example, run apt-get dselect-upgrade.

Ordinarily, you will find that dselect(1) provides a more convenient
way to modify the package selection states.

^^ this i am not so sure of if it is correct, did not find anythin on
this topic

Also, if you think that triggers will give us problems for the Jessie release,

if there is something I should give particular attention there.

One of the main things to do is to switch as many packages as possible to

This is mostly caused by #716922.

I'll open a separate bug report about the above; the only reason I'm
mentioning it here is in relation to differences in behavior I see
 concerning sending email.

Of course there is a difference in behaviour, considering the pgsql
access if broken due to the regression in qt4-sql-pgsql, so I'm not sure
what this bug would be about then, if you reported a new #717117 (which
is a duplicate of #716922).

alternatives mechanism; this is not a problem with kdig per se, since
dig is a very complicated utility. policy gives the vi (nvi, vim, etc.)
example but is otherwise not too clear on the issue of command line
interface compatibility. (see #465140.) we do have the example in the
archive of the netcats (netcat-openbsd, netcat-traditional) which are
command-line utilities which differ substantially, but in that case both
utilities are named 'nc' and there's a reasonably clear original -
 successor relationship.

to take a similar issue, bind9-host and unbound-host are somewhat
similar utilities but they differ enough in command line flags,
functionality, and output format that i've never felt comfortable having
unbound-host provide a 'host' substitute. (i think there was another
'host' implementation in debian at one point, but i can't remember what
 it was called.)

dig has a substantially complicated command-line interface and output
format to the point that i would recommend against trying to have kdig
provide the 'dig' command. to take a not-very-contrived example,
 compare:

 dig +vc +tries=1 +timeout=1 +edns=0 www.isc.org

 and

 kdig +vc +tries=1 +timeout=1 +edns=0 www.nic.cz

kdig doesn't support any of those flags ;-) more seriously, it looks
like kdig lacks +trace, too, which is of course a very popular dig
 mode.

This will be all added in due time. And differences between ISC dig and
Knot dig are considered as bugs.

that being said, there are a few dozen reverse dependencies of
bind9-host some of which need to run 'host' and parse the output, e.g.,
krb5-config, and i can see how it would be useful to avoid pulling in
the full set of bind9 library dependencies just for 'host'. but there
are substantial variations in output format among the 'host'
 implementations:

Again we aim to be 1:1 replacement (with tests, etc.), but we are not there
yet. But it would be nice to have an infrastructure in Debian in place.

Never saw that but then again I don't do such things.

I re,e,ber some problems discussed *before* 4.0.0.x, but without
clear outcome.

Both audio and video work fine with 4.1.0 packages from libreoffice.org.

The only difference here is that they use the old gstremer 0.10 version
and we use 1.0 (which is officially supported by upstreams build system
itself, nothing patched by us...)

And no, I am *NOT* going back to a obsolete library version. Especially
as above discussions also showed the problem with 0.10 afaicr.

Bug#715568: ibus-anthy 1.5.3 doesn't work

2013-07-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

I installed ibus-anthy1.5.3 from experimental. However, this new
input method is not listed in input sources of Gnome 3.8 Region
Language settings. So it is no way for Gnome to activate it.

If this input method is added via ibus-setup, ibus-anthy will be
activated all the time and cannot be turned off.

There seems to be a specific step needed to register input method
installed to Gnome. But I don't know what it is.

Thanks,

Bug#717132: lintian: new apache2 checks should not warn when the maintainer script is used

2013-07-17 Thread Markus Frosch
Package: lintian
Version: 2.5.14
Severity: wishlist

Hey maintainers of Lintian,

this is a request regarding the checks:

* apache2-reverse-dependency-calls-invoke-rc.d
* apache2-reverse-dependency-calls-wrapper-script

and maybe other upcoming checks for the new Apache2.4 handling.

I've update the postinst/postrm scripts of icinga-web for the new Apache 2.4
handling of things, while trying to still support wheezy, without the need
to change the scripts for backporting.

What I did is:
* if the new maintainer helper for apache2.4 exists
  - use it
* else
  - classical linking into conf.d/ and call of invoke-rc.d

Would it be possible to suppress these warnings when the new helper script [1]
is used as well? Please see my script [2] as example of how it could be utilized
by other maintainers.

Thank you,
Markus Frosch

Bug#703092: dpkg: And please add 'dependency on dselect'

Only now i found out that you need `dselect` for this to work. A little
mention of this might be cool in the man-file.

dselect is not the only option, see below.

 == snip

^^ this i am not so sure of if it is correct, did not find anythin on
 this topic
 == snip

I did the following changes:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=dpkg/dpkg.git;a=commitdiff;h=535325ba3d607cfe816ce7cf8d91d185ab87ca9b

I also documented it on the dpkg FAQ:

  https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Dpkg/FAQ

But I guess something along the lines above would make it more clear,
I'll try to improve the man page wording.

Thanks,
Guillem

So you happily can install a firebird-dev without even having a valid

What is the reason that firebird-dev doesn't simply dpeend on it? It's small

the -dev package. Not a extra package.

Bug#717107: limited TZ choices

and yes, I can choose that permutation and then I'm told There is no

manually get en_GB. So I can achieve the correct configuration.

However, some users may simply choose GB as their country (I'm an
Australian but I choose GB because Australians use British English and I
personally spent a lot of time living there) - so while I don't see this
as a severe issue, I think it would be helpful to let the user choose a
country that they associate with rather than their exact location at the
moment of installation. Then the TZ question should let them deviate
further from the options for their country.
No, no, no. You really really should *read* instead of *assuming* random
 things.

Quoting the “Select your location” screen, first two sentences are:
 | The selected location will be used to set your time zone and also for
 | example to help select the system locale. Normally this should be the
 | country where you live.

I agree it is not fundamentally broken and for people who know
Debian/Linux it is not hard to change later, but I still feel it is
rigid and it would not be hard to let people alter the timezone after
choosing a country

To give another example, consider a British person setting up a PC in
their holiday home in France: country where you live does not help
them make the system work the way they want.

Another option may be changing the text: Normally this should be the
country where the computer is physically located or physically
accessed. This will not limit you to using the language or locale of
the country you choose and the installer will proceed in the current
language.

libnotify even spits out a warning each time I start liferea.

Do you want to create 2^n different packages for the n optional
compile-time features in each Debian package?

When you want to have exact control over the dependencies of a package,
then Debian is not the right distribution for you.

 There was a very heated
debate in Debian [see links in 1] some months ago about gnome depending
on network-manager. The maintainer said, it depends, a lot of people
said, it doesn't and it sits in my way. The outcome of a technical
committee ruling was that is had to be removed from depends.

Did you actually read the ruling you are referring to?

That ruling does obviously not apply here:

-- snip --

6. Please note that this is not a general statement about GNOME
components. It is very specific to network-manager because all of the
   following apply:

   (i) The package takes action automatically because it is installed,
rather than being a component that can either be run or not at the
  user's choice.
...
If any of these points did not apply, the situation would be

If you would get Debian policy changed to mandate that translations must
be splitted out of all packages, and that dependencies on them must not

But when you try to argue that a dependency on icons is wrong for
liferea, without at least as strongly arguing that the translations
should be splitted out of liferea-data and that liferea must not
depend on these, your reasoning is just absurd.

Bug#717098: firebird-dev: ships neither fb_config nor fbembed.pc, making usage hard(er)

2013-07-17 Thread Tomáš Chvátal
Just a note from fellow Gentoo libreoffice maintainer.

We in Gentoo do not provide this files at all either. So I am not exactly sure
wether we should provide these or not.

Best course would be probably providing the .pc files and making upstream use
them?

Cheers

Hi,

As far as I know it should not work at all with recent kernels due to
api changes.
So I'm somewhat surprised it does work with 32 bit.

Could Bortel or anyone else with access to an i686 system do an strace

Bug#717137: initscripts: Initscripts package killing bootlogd functionality?

2013-07-17 Thread Zlatko Calusic
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.88dsf-43
Severity: normal

I don't understand why is initscripts package messing with the startup
(init.d and symlinks) files of other package (bootlogd)?

I fixed bootlogd yesterday, checked it works, then on the next
initscripts update (today) bootlogd init.d links are again messed up
and bootlogd stopped working once again. :(

Please fix it, bootlogd is a very important functionality for headless
servers.

Apparently britney sees the | python-uno and declares it as installable and
thus doesn't make it wait for libreoffice. I don't think we should
make people dist-upgrading to back to the obsolete python-uno (what apt
probably will do when lightproof enters without a python3-uno (= 4.0) )
when we can avoid it.

So this blocking bug.

Bug#717040: a work-around

2013-07-17 Thread Russell Coker
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=716881

The above bug report helped me fix this. I had to manually edit the identities
and set a transport. This isn't a solution to the problem as now I have
identities not using the default transport so things probably won't work as
desired if I change my default transport at some future time.

I had kmail running at the time I upgraded the Debian packages, but this
shouldn't result in configuration files that are corrupt and don't work.

Yes, but I must admit not today.

Indeed, if that did not apply the ruling would probably have been: it's

have already persuaded them.

Just for the record, I am stopping with this discussion, I don't think
it is going anywhere anymore. Dear maintainers, you now know my stand

Good to know, thanks.

A working maxima :-)...

I *think* that the problem might be lisp-related. Maxima is currently compiled
wit gcl in Debian ; the Sage team has standardized on ECL, which, apparently,
gives better performance. Time to reconsider ? Or better, to have a multi-lisp
solution ?

Bug#716762: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#716762: sbuild maybe should end the session after package build?

2013-07-17 Thread Teodor MICU
Hi,

.. but about this one.

This is not consistent with schroot behaviour where the session is
automatically handled per schroot(1) default --automatic-session.

This is controlled through the sbuild PURGE_BUILD_DEPS configuration
 option ($purge_build_deps = 'always|successful|never' or the --purge-deps
 or --purge command-line options.

Are you sure that this is not being set to never either in
/etc/sbuild/sbuild.conf, .sbuildrc or on the command-line?

I agree with you that dependency handling is done as requested, in my
case not via the configuration file (default) but via command line
options:
 --purge=never --purge-deps=never

However, this bug report is about sbuild *leaving* the schroot session
open at the end of the package build. I believe that sbuild should
automatically end the schroot session, session automatically created
to build the package.

Cheers

Bug#714441: libgphoto2: please switch to libusb-1.0

2013-07-17 Thread Markus Koschany
Hi David and Debian PhotoTools maintainers,

i have recently prepared a QA upload for sane-backends. We later
discovered that sane-backends cannot be built on KfreeBSD because of
libusb-dev which libgphoto2 requires to build. That is blocking the
migration of sane-backends to testing right now.

http://bugs.debian.org/715163

I have seen you request an adopter for libgphoto2. Do you mind if we
make a minimal upload of libgphoto2 after the libgd2 transition is over?
This will fix #714441 and #715163.

Regards,

Markus

Bug#717107: limited TZ choices

2013-07-17 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Daniel Pocock (2013-07-17):
I agree it is not fundamentally broken and for people who know
Debian/Linux it is not hard to change later, but I still feel it is
rigid and it would not be hard to let people alter the timezone after
 choosing a country

It would not be hard to ask 1000 questions just to make sure we give
each and every option one might possibly want to tweak.

To give another example, consider a British person setting up a PC in
their holiday home in France: country where you live does not help
them make the system work the way they want.

Picking a different timezone in her clock settings in whatever
environment would work. Like, say, click the date/time area in Gnome,
choose “parameters” and select a different timezone.

(Also, last I checked, d-i isn't here to accomodate every convoluted
scenario you can come up with.)

Another option may be changing the text: Normally this should be the
country where the computer is physically located or physically
accessed. This will not limit you to using the language or locale of
the country you choose and the installer will proceed in the current
 language.

I'm not sure that's an improvement.

Mraw,
KiBi.

identi.ca support will be ripped out of the code in the next upstream

Yes, if identi.ca support is completely ripped out of the code, then
I suppose that host=identica will trigger an Error retrieving from

Okay.

Where there any patch(es) beyond those 15?

No. But now there are new ones. See attached pacthes.

Note that the latest add a lintian build-dep, needed for the tests.

Bug#717143: nautilus: Columns not resizeable in list view

2013-07-17 Thread Kjö Hansi Glaz
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.4.2-1+build1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

* What led up to the situation?

  - Open nautilus
  - Go to a local folder
  - Display it in list view

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
  ineffective)?

Put the mouse on the space between two columns header.

* What was the outcome of this action?

The mouse cursor shows arrows (-) as if I could resize the columns,
but trying to resize them has no effect.

* What outcome did you expect instead?

I expect to be able to resize the columns, as in previous versions of
nautilus. (At lease, if it is a feature that the columns are nor
resizeable anymore, then I expect the cursor not to show resizing
arrows.)

By the way, thanks for maintaining GNOME in Debian!

The small distance is 256 bytes by default. Note that GCC 2.96 is the default

Could you please give me some hints how to workaround this issue? I did not

Bug#717146: pu: package gnome-shell/3.4.2-7+deb7u1

2013-07-17 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

Hi,

please find attached a proposed update for gnome-shell. It includes
these changes:
 - a bugfix in the “gdm-shell” mode of the login manager;
 - a move of the first GC pass much earlier in the session, to avoid
losing several minutes worth of work if it locks up (I hope you
   remember the trouble with this crappy GC during the freeze);
 - a watchdog to suicide the process (and let gnome-session restart it)
if the GC actually locks up.

Unfortunately I couldn’t have definite confirmation, in sid, that the
latter change does the trick for the handful of users affected by the
deadlock, since most of them migrated to gnome-fallback or another DE,
but it should be harmless, and from my testing of a simulated deadlock,
it worked.

Thanks for considering,

[..]

I have seen you request an adopter for libgphoto2. Do you mind if we
make a minimal upload of libgphoto2 after the libgd2 transition is over?
This will fix #714441 and #715163.

I'm ok with that.

I'm against changing Debian cmake behaviour (in comparison to vanilla one)

this option or better yet do GCC version detection.

   Description : Dynamic traffic shaper

NiceShaper is a program working in a Linux router environment.
It uses a proven HTB QOS algorithm. Provides dynamic traffic shaping
which is more effective than traditional, static shaping.
By constantly monitoring packets flowing through the router in response to
changing load dynamically adjusts the bandwidth of acting classes to a level
enabling the fullest possible usage of a internet access.
At the same time does not allow for creation of congestion,
ensuring complete convenience of interactive services.

NiceShaper takes care of download when upload stops up.

Sounds promising.

Does it make use of CoDel when available?

Qemu-kvm in sid is a transition package, and there are NEWS entries about

qemu, which you ARE already using to (re)build it.

Wow. Sure it wont work.

Add it to debian/control, just take a look at that file and you'll
see what to do.

Could you please give me some hints how to workaround this issue? I did not
have such problems with qemu-kvm 1.1.2 from wheezy.

Which issue? Note that qemu-kvm didn't built statically linked
qemu-user binaries...

Thanks,

/mjt

Bug#717144: Remove workaround-gcc296-bugs from ctest -T MemCheck

 However as per documentation:

When enabled, assume that reads and writes some small distance below the
stack pointer are due to bugs in GCC 2.96, and does not report them. The
small distance is 256 bytes by default. Note that GCC 2.96 is the default
compiler on some ancient Linux distributions (RedHat 7.X) and so you may
need to use this option. Do not use it if you do not have to, as it can
cause real errors to be overlooked. A better alternative is to use a more
recent GCC in which this bug is fixed.

Since GCC 2.96 never entered debian, I would really like to see this option
 removed.

I'm against changing Debian cmake behaviour (in comparison to vanilla one)
 unless it is absolutely necessary.

Define absolutely necessary ?
As DD, you do do know about DFSG #4, right ?

Bug#717070: tex-common: update-updmap doesn't seem to work for per-user files, as it is documented to

2013-07-17 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi

Out of interest, what was the reason for the change? Before, I could just run
update-updmap when I installed new map files; now I have to maintain
 updmap.cfg manually.

Please *read* the man page of updmap!

Before you had one or more private cfg files and called update-ipdmap followed
by updmap,

now you have take the same cfg file once, combine them manually (cat *.cfg) to
your updmap.cfg file, and after that you only have to run updmap, nothing else.

It got simpler, due to the fact that ipdmap now reads *all* updmap.cfg file.

Again, read the man page.

error in your report.

Please run your example with

file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during
the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in
your home directory.

Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are

Bug#641172: unable to install on a system with Windows 7 and GPT partition table

D-I uses parted (or rather libparted). I don't really see where is
your problem : you mention that D-I sees the whole disk as free
space. But is there already something that it should see? From your
 bug report, it's unclear.

I'm having the same problem, as I understand the original report:
I installed Win7 on a GPT drive and tried to install wheezy, which only saw a
blank hard drive (using both the KDE live disk and the netinstall iso in
expert mode).
I just went ahead and booted Knoppix to see if I could see a problem. gdisk on
the hard drive tells me that there are both a valid MBR and GPT.

To reproduce (hopefully), install win7 on a GPT disk (which came with the win8
computer) and look at the mess it produces...

PS: Since I actually want to use this system, I'm switching to MBR only now,
so I won't be able to do any more tests on the actual hardware.

 Hi,

thank you for submitting installation reports, much appreciated.

I read through all the (partman related) bugs mentioned here and am closing
 them now as
 - they (finally) indicated success and/or
 - I know from first hand experience that the functionality is working in
 Wheezy and/or
 - they only contained very little information and/or
 - they were (very) old.

If I've closed a bug incorrectly please do reply or just file a new one -
thats often better, as the bug log will be more clear.

Dear Holger and everybody,

I think that it would be great if somebody could extend debian-installer to
install Debian on partitionless drives (like /dev/xvdb instead of /dev/xvdb1).

This would open the possibility to use debian-installer for preparing some
preseeded cloud images in a very simple way. Currently, this is done with
ad-hoc tools developed from scratch. Using debian-installer would also
ease the convergence between cloud images and standard installations, which
is wanted (see http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DPL/OfficialImages).

(and please forgive me if partman is not the best package to hold this bug
report)

Have a nice day,

Bug#717144: Remove workaround-gcc296-bugs from ctest -T MemCheck

Hello,

What's a reason you play BTS ping pong with me? Changing severity with no
additional justification won't change my opinion.

  However as per documentation:

When enabled, assume that reads and writes some small distance below the
stack pointer are due to bugs in GCC 2.96, and does not report them. The
small distance is 256 bytes by default. Note that GCC 2.96 is the
  default
compiler on some ancient Linux distributions (RedHat 7.X) and so you may
need to use this option. Do not use it if you do not have to, as it can
cause real errors to be overlooked. A better alternative is to use a more
recent GCC in which this bug is fixed.

Since GCC 2.96 never entered debian, I would really like to see this
  option
  removed.

I'm against changing Debian cmake behaviour (in comparison to vanilla one)
  unless it is absolutely necessary.

 Define absolutely necessary ?

Does not work otherwise.

As DD, you do do know about DFSG #4, right ?

Yes, I do. I fail to see why you would point me to it. Just to be clear, I'm
NOT against fixing this bug, I'm against fixing this bug via Debian patch.
That's it.

So either you report it upstream (which will be faster), or I will do it
sometime eventually.

Bug#689230: Virtuoso 7 available

2013-07-17 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
Hi!

The research branch of Virtuoso, version 7, has been released. They have
gotten a lot of traction through the EU-funded LOD2 project, and from a
performance viewpoint, Virtouso 7 looks amazing. I can't vouch for the
stability though.

However, since it has gone some months since the release, I really hope
Virtuoso 7 could make it to jessie soon. That would also allow a lot of time
to really put the thing to the test.

Cheers,

Kjetil

This is because okular advertises priority=5 (the default), while

Is it likely that this will be incorporated in the package or it will

Bug#714155: [mdadm] mdadm starts before devies are ready

2013-07-17 Thread Samuel Smith

Package: mdadm
Version: 3.2.5-5

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I was bitten by this too. Looks like another person here too:
http://tinyurl.com/pqrkx2c

Not sure where to point the blame. I was thinking initramfs too but when
I ran reportbug-ng to generate this against mdadm, Martin was smart
enough to prompt a person to check the included mdadm FAQ.gz file item
#26. I have since added a rootdelay to the kernel boot param. I can now
boot on 3.9 without being dropped to a shell for unfound devices.

It is hard to figure out where to put the blame. I am running testing.
Mdadm has been at the same version since Jan. The only major thing that
really changed when I updated was the kernel going from 3.2 to 3.9. The
FAQ.gz even states that this issue is probably caused by the disk
controller drivers.

Not sure how helpful this report is. If I can provide more info, please
let me know.

Bug#717158: network-manager: ignores settings from dhclient.conf and requests insecure properties

2013-07-17 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.9.8.0-5
Severity: important
Tags: security

Hi.

NM aparently thinks it's smarter and ignores any settings from dhclient.conf.
This leads to security problems, if one e.g. intentionally told dhcp
to ignore properties like the dns-search path, which may be used by a hostile
dhcp server to trick you into wrong domains.

Chris.
