Bug#731671: git-bzr: failed to detect conversion of file into symlink
Package: git-bzr Version: 1:1.8.4.3-1 Severity: important It seems git-bzr fails to detect the conversion of a file into a symlink, or replacing a file with a symlink... When using git-bzr with remote: bzr::lp:ltsp In a bzr checkout, the file: server/share/ltsp/plugins/ltsp-build-client/Ubuntu/010-debootstrap Is a symlink to ../Debian/010-debootstrap, which happened in bzr revision: 2375 Stéphane Graber 2012-08-02 Ubuntu: Use 010-debootstrap from Debian Which the git branch represents as: commit 5a8cbca627829c18ebeff37f6d06663b6b72b4b5 Author: Stéphane Graber Date: Thu Aug 2 13:20:31 2012 -0400 Ubuntu: Use 010-debootstrap from Debian But that commit is an empty commit, as far as I can tell... In the git checkout, it's not a symlink, but the old file from before commit 5a8cbca627829c18ebeff37f6d06663b6b72b4b5. Other than that, it seems to work quite nicely... :) Also tested with 1:1.8.5.1-1 on sid, and 1:1.8.4~rc3-1~bpo70+1 with wheezy-backports, for what it's worth. live well, vagrant -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages git-bzr depends on: ii git1:1.8.4.3-1 ii python 2.7.5-5 ii python-bzrlib 2.6.0-3 git-bzr recommends no packages. Whether it's better to let it migrate to testing first or not depends on the state of three packages, the package currently in testing, the package currently in unstable, and the package to be uploaded to unstable. It's up to the package maintainer to make a judgement call on this. > You should also > check the package tracking system for transition warnings to avoid > making uploads that disrupt ongoing transitions." Bug#731666: suggest to think about testing before uploading to unstable.

People do not read the Developers Reference before each upload. Also, there was very recently an announce from the release team encouraging to upload at medium urgency when it helps, so the time window in which a problem can happen is quite narrow. Lastly, the release team has the possibility to block uploads to unstable when a transition is problematic. Perhaps the main issue here is that the recommendation conflates two separate questions. 1) What should have the priority: the update of Testing or the update of Unstable ? For this I think that it should be up to the maintainer and we should not try to make a recommendation that is based on assumptions that can not be generalised. 2) Will the upload impact other developers works, in particular in case of transitions ? Here again, it is important to be precise, and to double-check that it reflects the views of the release team. In particular, we should think twice before writing a workflow where one of the outcomes can be "stop what you are doing and come back in 9 days". I think that, in spirit of your proposition, there would be two additions to the Developers Reference that would have a higher added value: a synthethic checklist to look before uploading, and a summary of which actions on a package have potential consequences on the work of other packagers or integrative teams. Hmmm. I do think something is certainly at the very least not optimal here. But I don't understand fully, so if you don't mind, I'll ask some questions. > The git repo: > git+ssh://git.debian.org/git/dgit-repos/repos/bugs-everywhere.git > > The .gitignore: ... > Actual result: > the package quilt series has an extra entry for .be/id-cache. Can you tell me where that ".be/id-cache" file comes from ? (I've not heard of this file before so you'll have to explain I'm afraid.) Does your "debian/rules clean" delete it ? (If the file was created by the build process then I think it's a bug in the package if the rules clean doesn't remove it again. Of course one goal of dgit is to make it convenient to work with bugyy packags - and in this case that's what the -wg option is for: if you use that I think dgit will delete the unwanted files, making your source tree properly clean.) Did you expect there to be a quilt patch created by your upload ? That is, were there changes in your git history which had not been made into dpkg-source format `3.0 (quilt)' patches ? The quilt patch is created by dgit running dpkg-source --commit. But I think whether the creation of this file is recorded in a quilt patch, or represented some other way in the source package (e.g., if you had a format 1.0 native package, just in the tarball), isn't really the point. You probably didn't want it in the source package at all. Perhaps the bug is that dgit should have noticed that there were changes to files which were .gitignored but not ignored by dpkg, and complained. I can see why you might think that (some or all of) the dgit build functions should do the build in a fresh checkout. But this is awkward because dgit doesn't know which of the files in the parent directory are necessary to produce the correct .dsc. Thanks for the report. Right. As the manpage says, you may use any technique you like to do the build, provided it results in a .dsc which matches your git tree exactly. So it's not necessary for the building functions in dgit to support every possible workflow. However, I'm certainly open to improving dgit's build functions if it would be possible and useful. > My setup is a mix of those: ... > dpkg-buildpackage: paquet source bugs-everywhere > dpkg-buildpackage: version source 1.1.1-3 > dpkg-buildpackage: source changé par Antoine Beaupré > dpkg-buildpackage: architecture hôte amd64 > dpkg-source -i.git/ -I.git --before-build bugs-everywhere-1.1.1 > dpkg-source: info: utilisation des options depuis > bugs-everywhere-1.1.1/debian/source/options : --single-debian-patch > dpkg-checkbuilddeps : dépendances de construction non trouvées : tla darcs > monotone rcs python-numpydoc > dpkg-buildpackage: avertissement: dépendances de construction et conflits non > satisfaits ; échec. > dpkg-buildpackage: avertissement: (Utilisez l'option -d pour forcer.) > gbp:error: Couldn't run 'dpkg-buildpackage -i\.git/ -I.git -us -uc > -v1.1.1-2': dpkg-buildpackage -i\.git/ -I.git return > git-buildpackage: failed command: git-buildpackage -us -uc --git-no-sign-tags > '--git-builder=dpkg-buildpackage -i'\\'.g > dgit: subprocess failed with error exit status 1 So I think you are right that the problem here is that dgit is overriding --git-builder. dgit needs to do this because the default ignore rules are not correct: git-buildpackage (and various other tools) ignore .gitignore (and perhaps other things) by default, which is not correct with dgit. As far as I know the only way to specify a different set of ignore rules with git-buildpackage is to override --git-builder. As it happens, I think you can achieve the same effect with dgit's subcommand override options. If I UTSL I see this in cmd_git_build: my @cmd = (qw(git-buildpackage -us -uc --git-no-sign-tags), "--git-builder=@dpkgbuildpackage"); So it may work to say something like: dgit --dpkg-buildpackage=git-pbuilder git-build I appreciate that this isn't particularly discoverable, but the ability to override dpkg-buildpackage is documented in the manual and if you run dgit with the -D option it will show you the commands it's running. (Would it have been better to show this particular command by default?) > This seems to work a little better here: > DIST=sid ARCH=amd64 dgit git-build --git-builder=git-pbuilder > It seems to me this shouldn't be hardcoded. I assume that this works only because something else is somehow overriding the dropping of .gitignore. Later in this bug you followed up: Antoine Beaupré writes: > Ah, after more complete testing, it seems that push fails with packages > built through pbuilder, because it can't find the .dsc file: ... > dgit: looked for .dsc bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-3.dsc, but Aucun fichier ou > dossier de ce type; maybe you forgot to build > > Indeed, the files are in ../build-area. (I won't yet clone this bug report for that, because I want to finish the whole conversation before deciding what's best to do.) (But: there is already an option to specify the .changes file. Bug#731635: syntax error in at line 1: PGP signature not allowed here
severity 731635 minor retitle 731635 want better error messagge for already-signed .dsc/.changes thanks Antoine Beaupré writes ("Bug#731635: syntax error in at line 1: PGP signature not allowed here"): > I am finally trying to upload this package using "dgit push", and > here's what I get: ... > $ dgit push ... > synthesised git commit from .dsc 1.1.1-2 > HEAD is now at 11fb61b > Use of uninitialized value $_[0] in sprintf at > /usr/share/perl5/Dpkg/ErrorHandling.pm line 48, line 1. > dgit: error: syntax error in at line 1: PGP signature not allowed here ... > I think this is because the package files were already signed by > git-buildpackage+pbuilder (using AUTO_DEBSIGN=yes in pbuilder) during > the build process - but what's wrong with that? >From the dgit manpage: Tagging, signing and actually uploading should be left to dgit push. I will try to arrange for the error message to refer to the manpage. The reason for this requirement is that if you are intending to use dgit it does not make sense to sign the package before running dgit push. dgit needs to add a field to the .dsc, so it needs to re-sign it. If you sign it first, then you are creating two different signed .dsc files (and perhaps .changes) for the same upload; this is an accident (wrong thing uploaded) waiting to happen. So dgit arranges to fail if your workflow is wrong. > Note that is also happens if you rerun dgit push after it failed once > (e.g. because a third party uploaded a tag with the same name on the > repo you're working on). The tag that dgit pushes is the Debian version tag. These should not be rewritten. So I think that if this has happened, you need to bump the version and rebuild. Bug#731660: Follow-up
Hi again, I've been investigating on it, and found what are the three steps to be done for this: You have to start on the new kernel version in maintenance mode after telling your root system is /dev/sdaX when prompted to. 1. You then have to call: /usr/sbin/update-grub This forces grub to recognize the change in config. 2. Modify the /etc/fstab: Change hdaN to sdaN there And the cd-rom from hdc (usually) to sr0 (again, usually) 3. type dpkg-reconfigure linux-image- to force rebuilding the initramfs file with the new locations. This would be good to tell people about this when switching from a 2.6.XX kernel version to a linux-image-486 one when installing the package. Or point to a html link maybe? Now, that all the 686 are pae, I guess 686 users aren't concerned. Best regards, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#731661: linphone: segfault with Asterisk video calls
Package: linphone Version: 3.6.1-2.1+b2 Severity: important If I attempt a video call from linphone through my Asterisk server, the linphone client segfaults as soon as the call is accepted. This happens even when making a call to a voice-only destination, if the "Always start video" option is on. When it's off, voice calls work fine. Video calls works fine with linphone 3.5.2 from wheezy. And version 3.6.1 also works OK when calling direct from linphone to linphone, without going through Asterisk. Bug#731660: linux image 486: The system is looking for /dev/hdaX while only /dev/sdaX are available
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-4-486 Objet : linux image 486: The system is looking for /dev/hdaX while only /dev/sdaX are available Date : dimanche 8 décembre 2013, 02:17:01 De : Yohann Ferreira À : sub...@bugs.debian.org Hi there, I've been updating an Toshiba Tecra today (2005-2006 laptop), and I noticed that since that between the kernel version 2.6.32 and the kernel versions 3.2.0 and 3.11 there is a quite meaningful difference; When using the linux kernel (linux-image-486) 3.2.0 or 3.11 version, the system doesn't start and complains about not finding the /dev/hda2 (which is my root system partition). The fact is that there is no hda2, but only sda[1-5] there. The system then prompts me to give a location, and starts when I give '/dev/sda2' but only to fail later on as many other scripts complain about not finding hda2 as well. This is currently functionning correctly when using the kernel 2.6.32 as there are hdaX nodes there. Is this a bug? And if it isn't, how can I translate those nodes correctly when booting the new kernels? However the system headers that are included later by foomaticrip.c redefine it to 1024. I made a patch to use the system PATH_MAX where available and this fixed the build but I would be reluctant to use it without understanding why things were done the way they were done in the first place. Especially as the value used in in foomatic-rip.h does not match the system value on linux. filer/foomatic-rip does not exist in the testing version of the package so I do not expect this bug directly affects testing. However the version of cups in testing has build-depends which are not satisfiable by the version of cups-filters in testing so this needs to be dealt with before release. diff -Nru cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/changelog cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/changelog --- cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/changelog2013-12-06 22:36:35.0 + +++ cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/changelog2013-12-07 23:48:51.0 + @@ -1,3 +1,10 @@ +cups-filters (1.0.42-1plugwash1) UNRELEASED; urgency=low + + * Modify foomaticrip.h to use system header for PATH_MAX rather +than defining it's own version which conflicts on kfreebsd. + + -- root Sat, 07 Dec 2013 23:47:52 + + cups-filters (1.0.42-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release 1.0.42: diff -Nru cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/series cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/series --- cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/series 2013-12-06 23:01:34.0 + +++ cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/series 2013-12-07 23:49:40.0 + @@ -1 +1,2 @@ fix-pdf-landscape-printing.patch +use-system-path-max.patch diff -Nru cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/use-system-path-max.patch cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/use-system-path-max.patch --- cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/use-system-path-max.patch 1970-01-01 01:00:00.0 +0100 +++ cups-filters-1.0.42/debian/patches/use-system-path-max.patch 2013-12-08 00:01:31.0 + @@ -0,0 +1,45 @@ +Description: use system PATH_MAX + Modify foomaticrip.h to use limits.h for PATH_MAX rather + than defining it's own version which conflicts on kfreebsd. + + Continue to define own version if PATH_MAX is not defined + by limits.h to avoid breaking the build on hurd. +Author: Peter Michael Green + +--- +The information above should follow the Patch Tagging Guidelines, please +checkout http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/ to learn about the format. Bug#724739: gnome-shell: Overview does not respect desktop background
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.8.4-5 Followup-For: Bug #724739 -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I can confirm that this bug still happens using 3.8.4-5 I have a custom XML file that I use to change the desktop background every 10 minutes. What happens is that when the desktop background changes, the background of the overview doesn't. Moreover, the background of the workspace overview is different from the one of the overview itself. They appear to randomly change, at some point, but with no apparent trigger. In these two images you can see what I am experiencing: http://imageshack.com/a/img689/5695/7sdy.png http://imageshack.com/a/img853/5889/y8ll.png Is there any way to fix this? I haven't tried, but shouldn't this be happening also with the default Adwaita XML changes-during-the-day background? Logout and login fixes it, but as soon as the first BG change happens, the problem reappears. - -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (1001, 'unstable'), (600, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.11-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-shell depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.18.0-1 ii evolution-data-server3.8.5-3 ii gdm3 3.8.4-6 ii gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0 0.6.34-2 ii gir1.2-caribou-1.0 0.4.12-1 ii gir1.2-clutter-1.0 1.14.4-3 ii gir1.2-freedesktop 1.36.0-2+b1 ii gir1.2-gcr-3 3.8.2-4 ii gir1.2-gkbd-3.0 3.6.0-1 ii gir1.2-glib-2.0 1.36.0-2+b1 ii gir1.2-gmenu-3.0 3.8.0-2 ii gir1.2-gnomebluetooth-1.03.8.1-2 ii gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0 3.8.4-2 ii gir1.2-gtk-3.0 3.8.6-1 ii gir1.2-ibus-1.0 1.5.4-1 ii gir1.2-mutter-3.03.8.4-2 ii gir1.2-networkmanager-1.00.9.8.0-5 ii gir1.2-nmgtk-1.0 0.9.8.4-1 ii gir1.2-pango-1.0 1.36.0-1+b1 ii gir1.2-polkit-1.00.105-4 ii gir1.2-soup-2.4 2.44.2-1 ii gir1.2-telepathyglib-0.120.22.0-1 ii gir1.2-telepathylogger-0.2 0.8.0-2 ii gir1.2-upowerglib-1.00.9.23-2+b1 ii gjs 1.36.1-2 ii gnome-bluetooth 3.8.1-2 ii gnome-icon-theme-symbolic3.10.1-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon3.8.5-2 ii gnome-shell-common 3.8.4-5 ii gnome-themes-standard3.8.4-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas3.8.2-2 ii libatk-bridge2.0-0 2.10.0-1+b1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.10.0-2 ii libc62.17-97 ii libcairo-gobject21.12.16-2 ii libcairo21.12.16-2 ii libcamel-1.2-43 3.8.5-3 ii libcanberra-gtk3-0 0.30-2 ii libcanberra0 0.30-2 ii libclutter-1.0-0 1.14.4-3 ii libcogl-pango12 1.14.0-3 ii libcogl121.14.0-3 ii libcroco30.6.8-2 ii libdbus-1-3 1.6.18-2 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.100.2-1 ii libecal-1.2-15 3.8.5-3 ii libedataserver-1.2-173.8.5-3 ii libegl1-mesa [libegl1-x11] 9.2.2-1 ii libgck-1-0 3.8.2-4 ii libgcr-base-3-1 3.8.2-4 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.28.2-1 ii libgirepository-1.0-11.36.0-2+b1 ii libgjs0c [libgjs0-libmozjs185-1.0] 1.36.1-2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.36.4-1 ii libgnome-menu-3-03.8.0-2 ii libgstreamer1.0-01.2.1-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.8.6-1 ii libical0 0.48-2 ii libjson-glib-1.0-0 0.16.2-1 ii libmozjs185-1.0 1.8.5-1.0.0+dfsg-4+b1 ii libmutter0b 3.8.4-2 ii libnm-glib4 0.9.8.0-5 ii libnm-gtk0 0.9.8.4-1 ii libnm-util2

Control: severity 731569 important Hi! Thank you for the information. I will upload a new version of the package tomorrow, fixing this issue. You might want to test it already by compiling the package from source, or simply wait a little until tomorrow. @Josh: I don't think "grave" is the right priority for this bug, as it doesn't cause data loss, is a security issue or renders the package completely unusable. It's simply a very annoying thing which should be fixed as soon as possible (which will happen, together with the systemd bug) Cheers, Matthias -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#682071: nautilus: Built-in search does not work for non-indexed directories when tracker is enabled
Hello. So, Tracker comes with some defaults of places to index, but when doing a search with CTRL+F in Nautilus in a place outside that index is currently _very_ broken, because it doesn't show results but also doesn't tell the user why it isn't returning results and not using any fall-back whatsoever... I hope newer Nautilus has this sorted somehow but if a backport of the fixes isn't easy, then, in my opinion (for whats is worth...), the best thing for users is to recompile Nautilus without Tracker support. I did this for my friend but its not good to make every user go through that trouble, no drawbacks found yet; indexing everything was not possible, too much files, slow wifi network... The trouble wasn't recompiling but actually figuring out what was going on, that took a lot of time... So please, give this bug the importance that it deserves and take some reasonable measure. Bug#731656: Please disable securetty by default
Package: login Version: 1:4.1.5.1-1 Severity: wishlist securetty dates back to the days when people still logged into systems via telnet and rlogin. These days, remote access occurs via SSH, which has its own configuration mechanism to determine whether to allow root logins (including more flexible approaches such as disallowing root logins by password but allowing them by key). And any local TTY should be considered a securetty by definition. Thus, I don't think securetty has any value anymore as part of the default configuration of login. I would suggest removing it by default. Bug#730983: Festival Voices and Czech voices
Dear Fellow Debian TTS gourp members, Debian a11y group members, Recently Czech voices for festival have been offered for adoption. As a founding member of the Debian TTS (text to speech) group which maintains festival and speech tools it suggests to me that the natural place to maintain Czech festival voices is within the TTS group. The advantages I can see is that: 1) Problems with voices are likely to be dependent on the changes in new versions of festival as voices evolve quite slowly in general. 2) TTS group have experience with the festival/speech-tools codebase and thus have a bit of experience with how festvox voices in the general sense are created and how they function in the Festival/Speech-tools framework. The major disadvantage is that: 1) Currently the TTS team has no Czech speaker. Although the team is fortunate to have speakers of a number of different languages. The question becomes how can Debian provide Czech voices for its community. In the absence of a Czech speaker rapidly offering to take on the Czech festival voices I make the following proposal. Although I am not a Czech speaker, I care enough particularly about fellow Czech Debian community to ask to bring Czech voices within the TTS group and work on it for the Debian community. I would be happy to integrate the voices into TTS groups alioth facilities, monitors bugs lists, test the voices with changes to festival/speech-tools. I suspect that any problems with voices are likely to be all or nothing. It works or its substantially broken. Subtle problems might be detectable by people familiar with the broad language family, a Rosetta Stone (more on this later) and sufficient motivation and a desire to work with bug filers to fix the problems. The Czech lanaguage is partially intelligible to me (I am familiar with another Eastern European language). So what is this Rosetta stone I am suggesting? In order for festival team members to look after the voices a set of reference encodings would be generated for the team which would be kept in their repository for testing purposes. They would be moderate sized reference texts in the language and the equivalent sound files rendered by festival voices. This would guard against a fairly large range of faults in TTS generation which would be obvious to a motivated non-speaker. The more subtle faults could be checked with bug filers and by a more rare reaching out to the Czech Debian community for listening tests. This effectively separates the need and interest in understanding how voices are created and maintained from the ability to native speak the language which would only require us to find occasional listeners or have them show interest through bug filling. My proposal intends to use the limited resources of the Debian community by separating interest in speech generation and technical aspects with a outreaching to native listeners who may not be interested in developing interest in the technical aspects of voice maintainence. I ask for comments from fellow TTS members, a11y team members and the current maintainers for on whether this is likely to be a workable scheme. I also specifically ask if the retiring Czech voice maintainers would be interested in a short collaboration of creating 10-20 minutes of sound files from representative texts of Czech to act as a Rosetta Stone for verifying the voices during maintainence and to be included in our git repository. Opinions Please? best regards, Peter Drysdale

The cufflinks package also contains files from locfit with the same copyright holders, and there the license has non-free clauses. So either there are good news that somebody from the R community managed to get locfit relicensed (which would mean that we can move cufflinks to main), or maybe there are bad news that locfit's README file in the R package was wrongly removed, and the package is actually non-free... http://ftp-master.metadata.debian.org/changelogs/non-free/c/cufflinks/cufflinks_2.1.1-4_copyright Cheers, -- Charles -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#731655: plastimatch: Unsatisfiable B-D: insighttoolkit4 is only available on i386 and amd64
Package: plastimatch Version: 1.5.14+dfsg-1 Severity: serious Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past) Hi, plastimatch has switched to libinsighttoolkit4-dev, but that is only available for i386 and amd64. So either this Build-Depends needs to be restricted to these architectures or the outdated plastimatch binary packages for other architectures need to removed from the archive. Bug#731654: libgl1-nvidia-legacy-304xx-glx: nvidia-legacy-304xx packages failing on testing
Package: libgl1-nvidia-legacy-304xx-glx Version: 304.116-2 Severity: normal In common with others, I find that X no longer functions with the nvidia-legacy*304* packages on testing. On 3/12/13, they were installed and after I had selected various alternatives, X was working with nvidia-legacy-304... On 4/12/13 after an "aptitude full-upgrade", X would no longer work. At first it appeared to be a problem with the nouveau module being loaded. I could find no blacklisting of the nouveau module, although I gathered that one of the nvidia-legacy modules was intended to include that. I added a blacklist nouveau file under /etc/modprobe. That helped, but X still failed because it did not find the nvidia module. I am continuing to investigate, but this bug report is prompted by a problem with: dpkg-reconfigure libgl1-nvidia-legacy-304xx-glx That reported that the package name was ambiguous! I had to purge the :i386 version before dpkg-reconfigure would run. (I had removed the i386 versions in an attempt to simply the situation.) Since I no longer have decent web access (no X) on this machine, I am currently unable to check the other reports on this problem, but a simple google search will reveal those reports. -- -- Package-specific info: uname -a: Linux precise 3.11-2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.11.8-1 (2013-11-13) x86_64 GNU/Linux /proc/version: Linux version 3.11-2-amd64 (debian-ker...@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.8.1 (Debian 4.8.1-10) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.11.8-1 (2013-11-13) /proc/driver/nvidia/version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 304.116 Mon Oct 28 20:39:03 PDT 2013 GCC version: gcc version 4.8.2 (Debian 4.8.2-1) lspci 'VGA compatible controller [0300]': 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation NV40 [GeForce 6800] [10de:0041] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Geforce 6800 GV-N6812 [1458:310f] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: nvidia dmesg: [0.00] AGP bridge at 00:00:00 [0.00] Aperture from AGP @ f400 old size 32 MB [0.00] Aperture from AGP @ f400 size 64 MB (APSIZE f30) [0.00] AGP bridge at 00:00:00 [0.00] Aperture from AGP @ f400 old size 32 MB [0.00] Aperture from AGP @ f400 size 64 MB (APSIZE f30) [0.00] Console: colour VGA+ 80x25 [0.080568] vgaarb: device added: PCI::01:00.0,decodes=io+mem,owns=io+mem,locks=none [0.080641] vgaarb: loaded [0.080697] vgaarb: bridge control possible :01:00.0 [0.496018] agpgart-amd64 :00:00.0: AGP bridge [1106/3188] [0.499810] agpgart-amd64 :00:00.0: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0xf400 [0.537949] Linux agpgart interface v0.103 [8.276058] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. Bug#694721: gimp: Gimp help not working
Package: gimp Version: 2.8.2-2 Followup-For: Bug #694721 Dear Maintainer, Even after installing gimp-help-en I am unable to get any help in gimp, local or remote. This seems more than a trivial problem, though perhaps it was triggered by the exact sequence of my actions. * What led up to the situation? Installed and ran gimp, opening a png image to edit. Selected help | context help from the menu and then clicked on one of the brushes in the paintbrush window. This warning came up Could not open 'http://docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/gimp-help.xml' for reading: The specified location is not supported Perhaps you are missing GIO backends and need to install GVFS? Unlike the original poster I have not explicitly set any help options or requested remote help. Note I'm running under KDE. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? With aptitude installed gimp-help-en (oddly, there were 2 entries with the same version number), which also installed gimp-help-common. *While* the installl was in progress I tried help again (general help, not context help, I think) and got the same message. After installation tried help again, same error. Shut down and restarted help. Tried context help again, same error. I tried opening http://docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/gimp-help.xml in iceweasel. It did retrieve a page, though it was unformatted. * What was the outcome of this action? Warning dialogue shown above. * What outcome did you expect instead? Help, preferably locally or at least remote. The workaround is to visit the gimp web site. I would like to make it clear that we should *never* run something that updates the time from cron. That would have as effect that all clients will query the time at about the same time causing a massive overload of the ntp servers. If you run that against the ntp pool I believe that would be reason for having *.debian.pool.ntp.org getting disabled. Bug#731649: systemd: sleep key no longer suspends - just locks + blanks screen
Package: systemd Version: 204-5 Severity: normal This could be a gnome-power-manager (3.8.2-1) or upower (0.9.23-2+b1) issue, but it seems to have started at the point a GNOME upgrade pulled in systemd for logind. Since this time my laptop's sleep button no longer works correctly. Pressing it results in the screen being locked and the LCD being turned off, but doesn't actually suspend the laptop. I get the following errors in /var/log/daemon.log: Dec 7 12:12:59 makguksu dbus[3877]: [system] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.systemd1' (using servicehelper) Dec 7 12:12:59 makguksu dbus[3877]: [system] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1' failed: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1 Choosing the "Suspend" menu option from the GNOME panel or invoking pm-suspend from the command line both continue to work fine. I've tried setting HandleSuspendKey to both ignore and suspend in /etc/systemd/logind.conf (rather than the default commented out option) and neither seems to change the behaviour. IIRC the gnome-shell menu still calls upower. The component which handles lid close events in GNOME is gnome-settings-daemon and that package has been switched to work with systemd/logind. Actually, I don't care about this breakage because I don't use either libreoffice and the gnome desktop. Moreover, as an almost 10 years sid user, I think I can handle a lot of things. I just tried to be useful by filling a bug report. But given the Julien's laconic answer and the tone of yours, I understand I have not been careful enough. Then, to avoid to waste the Debian developers time (and mine), I won't fill bug reports anymore. I also found very fascinating how you consider that a package breakage due to a library upgrade is a "normal/not a bug" stuff, even for sid. It smells like quality work here. Ah, after more complete testing, it seems that push fails with packages built through pbuilder, because it can't find the .dsc file: anarcat@marcos:bugs-everywhere$ DEBSIGN_KEYID=7B75921E DIST=sid ARCH=amd64 dgit -L push DAMP RUN - WILL MAKE LOCAL (UNSIGNED) CHANGES From git+ssh://git.debian.org/git/dgit-repos/repos/bugs-everywhere * [new tag] debian/1.1.1-3 -> debian/1.1.1-3 canonical suite name for unstable is sid downloading http://ftp.debian.org/debian//pool/main/b/bugs-everywhere/bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-2.dsc... last upload to archive has NO git hash dget: retrieving http://ftp.debian.org/debian//pool/main/b/bugs-everywhere/bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-2.dsc % Total% Received % Xferd Average Speed TimeTime Time Current Dload Upload Total SpentLeft Speed 100 2143 100 21430 0 9512 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 18474 dget: retrieving http://ftp.debian.org/debian//pool/main/b/bugs-everywhere/bugs-everywhere_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz % Total% Received % Xferd Average Speed TimeTime Time Current Dload Upload Total SpentLeft Speed 100 347k 100 347k0 0 337k 0 0:00:01 0:00:01 --:--:-- 380k dget: retrieving http://ftp.debian.org/debian//pool/main/b/bugs-everywhere/bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-2.debian.tar.gz % Total% Received % Xferd Average Speed TimeTime Time Current Dload Upload Total SpentLeft Speed 100 20004 100 200040 0 60638 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 89704 bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-2.dsc: Good signature found validating bugs-everywhere_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz validating bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-2.debian.tar.gz All files validated successfully. dpkg-source: info: extraction de bugs-everywhere dans bugs-everywhere-1.1.1 dpkg-source: info: extraction de bugs-everywhere_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz dpkg-source: info: extraction de bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-2.debian.tar.gz dpkg-source: info: mise en place de debian-changes synthesised git commit from .dsc 1.1.1-2 HEAD is now at 11fb61b dgit: looked for .dsc bugs-everywhere_1.1.1-3.dsc, but Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type; maybe you forgot to build Indeed, the files are in ../build-area. Bug#731594: [pkg-ntp-maintainers] Bug#731594: debian-installer: time synchronisation should be installed by default
Dmitrijs Ledkovs writes: > Servers that rarely (re)configure network or boot, can also setup cron > to call to ntpdate or install an NTP client daemon when they are first > configured. FWIW, calling ntpdate from cron is a *horrible* idea. Since I agree that having time sync be a default part of a Debian installation would be a good idea, let me put a few thoughts down here and articulate what I think we should do. On a system like a server with at least one fixed-configuration network interface, unless the hardware clock has completely failed, the initial system time won't be grossly off, and just installing an ntp daemon is a better plan. Even if the hardware clock *has* failed, Debian's ntp packaging uses the -g option to the daemon by default, so that once the daemon has talked to enough peers/servers to know what time it is, it will always slew the clock one time no matter how far off it is at daemon launch. On a client system like a notebook that only has dynamic network connectivity, and may not be on the net at all at boot, the best strategy seem to be to rely on the hardware clock at boot and only worry about network time sync when there's networking available. For the past couple years, I've been using the openntpd package on my notebook, which has an if-up.d script that does a force-reload on each network interface up event, and in practice I've been quite happy with the results. I looked at chrony briefly several years ago and wasn't impressed, but I'm peripherally aware that it has been worked on quite a bit since then and probably deserves another look. It claims to have been specifically written to handle well the case of a system that's not always on the net. Looking at the size of the packages, ntp is largest due to the inclusion of drivers for various reference clocks, etc. Chrony is also a very large package, ntpdate is much larger than you'd expect, and openntpd is quite small by comparison to either ntp or chrony. Here are the Size: and Installed-Size: values for each based on the current sid packages: ntp 559578 1226 chrony 395400 743 ntpdate 81930 227 openntpd 64068 103 I care a lot about the size of our base install, and openntpd seems to do everything I need just fine as far as I can tell. So, without going off to study chrony which I really don't know at all, if I were making this decision, I'd be inclined to make openntpd standard, avoid ntpdate entirely, and assume users who really want to run stratum-1 NTP servers know how to install and optimally configure ntp. Bug#731633: dgit ignores my .gbp.conf settings
Package: dgit Version: 0.19 Severity: minor Minor really. I usually build my git packages using cowbuilder, and I have a rather convoluted setup to build packages, on my wheezy box, in a sid chroot to (a) get a clean environment and (b) to build against sid for uploads. My setup is a mix of those: https://wiki.debian.org/PbuilderTricks https://wiki.debian.org/PackagingWithGit#pbuilder https://wiki.debian.org/cowbuilder#Using_with_git-buildpackage Anyways, the point is I have this line in my .gbp.conf setting: builder = /usr/bin/git-pbuilder But when I try to build using dgit git-build, I get: anarcat@marcos:bugs-everywhere$ dgit git-build Format `3.0 (quilt)', urgh dpkg-source: info: utilisation des options depuis bugs-everywhere/debian/source/options : --single-debian-patch dpkg-source: avertissement: suppression du répertoire update-copyright ignorée dpkg-source: info: aucune modification locale à enregistrer nothing quilty to commit, ok. canonical suite name for unstable is sid changelog will contain changes since 1.1.1-2 dh clean --with=python2 dh_testdir debian/rules override_dh_auto_clean make[1]: entrant dans le répertoire « /home/anarcat/src/bugs-everywhere » dh_auto_clean make[2]: entrant dans le répertoire « /home/anarcat/src/bugs-everywhere » /bin/rm -rf build libbe/_version.py doc/man/be.1 doc/man/be.1.html make -C doc clean make[3]: entrant dans le répertoire « /home/anarcat/src/bugs-everywhere/doc » /bin/rm -rf .build libbe make[3]: quittant le répertoire « /home/anarcat/src/bugs-everywhere/doc » make[2]: quittant le répertoire « /home/anarcat/src/bugs-everywhere » rm -f libbe/_version.py make[1]: quittant le répertoire « /home/anarcat/src/bugs-everywhere » dh_clean gbp:info: Exporting 'HEAD' to '/home/anarcat/src/build-area/bugs-everywhere-tmp' gbp:info: Moving '/home/anarcat/src/build-area/bugs-everywhere-tmp' to '/home/anarcat/src/build-area/bugs-everywhere-1. dpkg-buildpackage: paquet source bugs-everywhere dpkg-buildpackage: version source 1.1.1-3 dpkg-buildpackage: source changé par Antoine Beaupré dpkg-buildpackage: architecture hôte amd64 dpkg-source -i.git/ -I.git --before-build bugs-everywhere-1.1.1 dpkg-source: info: utilisation des options depuis bugs-everywhere-1.1.1/debian/source/options : --single-debian-patch dpkg-checkbuilddeps : dépendances de construction non trouvées : tla darcs monotone rcs python-numpydoc dpkg-buildpackage: avertissement: dépendances de construction et conflits non satisfaits ; échec. dpkg-buildpackage: avertissement: (Utilisez l'option -d pour forcer.) gbp:error: Couldn't run 'dpkg-buildpackage -i\.git/ -I.git -us -uc -v1.1.1-2': dpkg-buildpackage -i\.git/ -I.git return git-buildpackage: failed command: git-buildpackage -us -uc --git-no-sign-tags '--git-builder=dpkg-buildpackage -i'\\'.g dgit: subprocess failed with error exit status 1 I notice --git-builder=dpkg-buildpackage seems hardcoded - why?
