Bug#502509: evolution: reproducibly segfaults in Edit-Preferences-Accounts Editor

2008-10-26 Thread Øystein Gisnås
Hi, I'm unable to reproduce this problem. Could you try with the
default locale (LANG=C evolution), describe which tabs you click
through, and try other variations to pinpoint when and why the bug
occurs.

Cheers,
Øystein

 Package: evolution
 Version: 2.22.3.1-1
 Severity: important

Go to Edit-Preferences, then start Accout Editor by double-clicking
an account (an IMAP account in my case). Sequentially click on all
tabs from the first one Identity to the last one IMAP Headers.
Press OK button. Evolution will segfault.

Below is the gdb log. I have installed the corresponding *-dbg
package, but it does not seem to help much with the backtrace.

Bug#502689: evolution-data-server: wrong time zone handling

Subject: evolution-data-server: wrong time zone handling
 Package: evolution-data-server
 Version: 2.22.3-1
 Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

 Dear DDs,

this morning the red time line in the calender was one hour behind. I
think this bug is similar to Debian bug #415585 [1]. If it is, could you
 please update the time zone.

Under preferences Calender the time zone is Europe/Berlin and Adapt to
 daylight saving is checked.

 Thanks,

 Paul

PS: If chances are high that that will happen again, maybe this part
should go into a separate package which than could be updated over
Debian volatile when Lenny will be released. At least that is what I
 understand what volatile is for.

PPS: How should I insert the times for my dates right now? As in the
system time or that it fits with the time line? Are the dates saved in
 UTC format?

Bug#502689: evolution-data-server: wrong time zone handling

2008-10-26 Thread Øystein Gisnås
You're probably right that something is wrong. I can't put the finger
on what, though.

I can see the same problem as you with the red timeline (only tried it
now after daylight saving is over) being right, but Ctrl+N suggesting
appointments one hour behind. I thought it maybe was using UTC time
for that, but adjusting the time zone back to London just move the
suggestion one hour back. It's as if it's deliberately suggesting
times one hour before.

For the DST, we should probably look more closely into that. I can't
answer your questions about how Evolution handles time zones in
detail. Maybe you could ask at the Evolution mailing list or file a
bug at bugzilla.gnome.org?

Cheers,
Øystein

Well, the timeline is correct now, but hitting Ctrl + N is still one
hour late (screenshot attached). I do not care about that, but I think
that is not the defined behaviour and therefore something does not work
 correctly in Evolution.

 Paul

Even without applying this patch, I was not able to reproduce the

You need a connexion loss at the moment of the move to reproduce the
issue. Upstream was able to reproduce the bug with 2.20 and nothing
relevant has changed since that moment, so I think it is still here.

I'm not able to reproduce the problem. Could someone who is able to

Josselin, do you think it's worth applying the patch even without

 HI Øystein,

recently. Could you please try with the newly uploaded 0.14 version

Not for me, using exclusively LDAP address books.

Note that the extension is not in the right directory for nautilus =
  2.22 (still in /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-1.0/libnautilus-sendto.so
  instead of /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/libnautilus-sendto.so).

  Adding a symlink does work.

As you have uploaded the package to unstable, it has been built against
nautilus 2.20 - if it is built against nautilus 2.22, maybe the
extension is put in the right directory (I haven't tried), but you will
then have to make sure the package is re-built when nautilus 2.22 is
  uploaded to sid.

It was expected that the upload to unstable would use extensions-1.0,
or else it wouldn't work for the unstable users. It might look a bit
weird that I close the bug with the upload to unstable, even though it
still doesn't work with experimental. The reason is that the source
code supports extensions-2.0, but needs a rebuild with the right
dependencies.

To verify that, I uploaded to experimental too. The 0.14.0-2 version
there has no source code changes but is rebuilt against nautilus
2.22.2. Check it out!

What you're saying about LDAP contact completion is that it still
doesn't work? Does it work in evolution? Is the address book marked
for auto completion? Could you try to see if completion works with the
contact-lookup-applet?

Cheers,
Øystein

The bug lies in evolution-data-server, fixed in 1.12.3.

There are plenty of bug reports about this already assigned to
evolution-data-server. It's marked as fixed in 1.12.3 but not in
1.12.2-1+b1.

Bottom line is that the bug is fixed, but people using the testing

Maybe this bug needs te be marked grave?

Hm, yes. Evolution just lost the message it just sent. Local exim logs
confirm it was indeed sent, but the message itself is not on the imap
server (where the Sent box is).

I have seen similar behavior where attempted moving of messages ends
up with message being deleted (or moved to trash) at the source folder
but never ends up at the target folder. There may be various reasons
for that, but any general failure on the target side (think: pull the
plug of the target mailserver) would give this, I think. As long as
Evolution doesn't have proper transaction support for moving email,
this will be more or less a problem. With proper error messages and a
message instance in the trash, the user can cover up for the problem.

I will therefore ask you to describe scenarios you have where (a) the
message doesn't end up i trash, or (b) no error message is shown. Try
to make it as easy as possible to reproduce the problem.

Øystein

(2.12.3 and 1.12.3) of both packages are uploaded to sid, but
unfortunately 1.12.3 got stuck and hasn't propagated to testing.

If you have problems with this, force apt to use the version from sid.
I reassign this bug to evolution-data-server to show that the buggy
package you struggle with is evolution-data-server 1.12.2-1+b1.

It's not really anything wrong with the exchange package, but rather
with the 2.12.2-1+b1 and 1.12.2-1+b1 versions of evolution and
evolution-data-server, respectively. As you point out, the fixed

 Package: evolution
 Version: 2.12.3-1
 Severity: normal

Found that on selection of a particular message in a folder within
evolution, it just shuts down - no error dialog or similar appears.
 restarting it did not
work - same result no doubt because of the last selected message being the
 problem.
starting evolution from a terminal - you get the following:

 evolution: symbol lookup
 error: /usr/lib/evolution/2.12/components/libevolution-mail.so:
 undefined symbol: camel_smime_context_new

 i deleted ~/.evolution/mail/local/folder-name.cmeta (took me a bit
to figure that one out too) to remove the message selection for that folder
 and restarted evolution. this worked,
so when i selected that folder again, no mesage was selected. i
navigated to that message again and tried to select again with the same
result. so i guess this confirmed the offending message.

the message itself is actually here (linux-thinkpad mailing list):
 http://www.nabble.com/thinkpad-sources-2.6.24-to15212546.html

i think it may be the inclusion of the attachment smime.p7s within the
message. in any case - a rather disastarous shutdown of evolution was
 unexpected.

i haven't yet, but will delete the offending messages so it doesn't
 happen in the meantime.

 thanks
 Takis

   Package: evolution
   Version: 2.6.2-4
   Severity: normal

   Hello,

I have switched from a KDE based environment to a GNOME based one and
wanted to take my mail with myself. I copied the mails from the other
machine and tried to read the Maildir created by Kmail.

When trying to create a new folder in the old Maildir structure it
complains that the path is not absolte. I even tried to create that
directory in a fresh Maildir in /tmp/mail, which also failed because
 of
the same supposed error. The /tmp directory is on the root filesystem
(could it be because the filesystem is on LVM?).

Attached is a screenshot of the error I got.

I tried this, and I'm not able to reproduce the problem. Do you have a
chance to try this on a different partition with a new evolution, or
do some other experiments to narrow in the causes for this bug?

Just tried it on Etch's Evolution. Maildir directory created with
courier-base's maildirmake in /home/eddy/tmp/Maildir. Same result.

Do you want me to try in a Sid schroot?

Is this still something you're experiencing? Is it present in the current
version? If so, some detailed steps on how to reproduce it would help..

-Add an activity to the calendar and save
-'stretch' the activity via the 'day-view' to cover longer periods of
 time
-though it doesn't crash everytime this is done, it will likely crash
some after repeating the above 5 times.

Unfortunately I don't have any more information to give other than this.
Nothing appears in any of my log files, and Gnome just comes up with a
dialog box explaining that evolution has crashed. If there's a way to
find debug code or the like I'll gladly look into it.

Bug#295270: Please help test patch to bug #347703 and #295270 - Error while Refreshing folder: Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

Hi,

A patch for the bugs reported at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=347703 and
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=295270 has finally

I therefore kindly for help to test this.

Those of you that are capable of building evolution on your own may go
to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213072 and apply the
patch linked from there.

For others that are able to install .debs, but not build them self,
I'll build packages and upload to experimental as soon as possible.
Please let me know that you want to help, and I'll notify you directly
about the upload.

Bug#452739: Crash

Would it give more info if I had the -dbg package installed?

This is not a crash (segfault of the X server or so), this looks like a
lockup (the server is stuck somewhere and stop processing anything
else). So -dbg would probably not help, unless you can catch a segfault
 with gdb.

Note that there are two lockups/hangs/crashes, both with output to the log.
The first one happens sporadically and causes gdm to restart. Isn't that
most probably a crash? The second one, when the new X server starts, may
well be a lockup as you say. Wouldn't it be better to look at the first one
to find the cause here? The first clue in the log is: Error in
I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds.

I haven't had the problem again (after ~10 hours of use) since I downgraded
to 2.1.1-4.

Cheers,
Øystein

 I tried to downgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel to 2.1.0-2, but I get a
conflict with xserver-xorg-core. Can someone suggest an
xserver-xorg-core-version I can use with 2.1.0-2, and where to
  download that?

You probably want 2.1.1-4, it is available from

 http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/09/17/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-intel/
You won't have to downgrade xserver-xorg-core if you take this one.

It this problem easy to reproduce? Did you switch to/from a virtual
console right before it happened? You seem to have some VT switch
 related messages in your log.

It is not even sure that the page table error is related to the
problem. Can you check whether the page table error appears when the
 lockup occurs and not earlier?

I might have switched to terminal, but I think I have had sessions that
crashed without any switches to terminal. I can't force the crash to happen
exactly when I want, but it happens quite regularly about every 2 hours.

Øystein

I can't understand it either, but I can confirm that it happens, and I think

I don't know much about chinese character encodings, but your points
sounds reasonable to me, and also in sync with others (see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446783 for example).

I think the severity you set was a bit too high, so I lowered that,
but will include a patch in the upcoming upload. I had to manually
apply the patch, since you haven't used the diff -u format. For next
time - please produce the patch with diff -u to make it easier for
me.

Maybe you can send an email to me with the non-conforming so that I
can verify the patch? I'd also appreciate if you could test the new
upload (1.12.1-1) to make sure it fixes the problem and doesn't
introduce any regressions.

 Downgrading to 2.6.3-6 fails miserably!

Another problem is when starting evolution:

use of shape masks or shape regions.

Thanks for your report!

This sounds like a high priority bug! Could you run evolution from
command line with this command: G_DEBUG=fatal_criticals evolution

The application will then crash instead of write out error message. If
you could install debugging symbols and paste the stacktrace, we could
narrow it in.

It would also be useful if you could give some details about your X

Bug#434910: evolution sporadically becomes unresponsive, uses all CPU

This problem significant affects usability and the performance of my
entire system. It is new since the 2.10 upgrade.

When I'm using evolution, as often as every few minutes, it locks up
for awhile (10 seconds?) and becomes unresponsive. It consumes all
available CPU. I haven't noticed much of a pattern; I think it has
happend while scrolling the message list (which is long), while
scrolling a message in a compose window, and while typing a reply.

I am running under KDE. My mailboxes are IMAP; some are quite large.
  My INBOX is 20k messages.

I also observe this behaviour, mostly when walking through a very large
IMAP folder, reading the mails. Then sometimes evolution becomes
unresponsive for a few seconds. I cannot observe this every time.

I guess, I know what's maybe causing this: I prefer to get the mails
every 5 minutes. As longer as evolution runs, it needs more and more
time to fetch the mails - not because the count of mails it has to fetch
increases. It simply gets more and more unresponsive when fetching the
mails. Say in the first hour, it needs 1 second, when I press the button
to fetch the mails. After running maybe 4 hours it becomes unresponsive
for at least 10 seconds when I press the button to fetch the mails.

And maybe this process, that fetches the mails every 5 minutes, is
causing the unresponsive times during walking through my folders too. I
hope, you understand, what I want to say :) The issue is really a bit
 obscure.

@Ross: Maybe you observe the same? The next time the issue occurs for
you, could you check, if the system also gets unresponsive, when you
press the button to fetch the mails?

 Regards, Daniel

Can you also observe the memory usage in the cases where it becomes
slow and compare it to normal memory usage?

Bug#410170: evolution doesn't honour messages' charset indication

Notwithstanding, when a message comes with the proper encoding indication:

evolution doesn't honor it: it presents it as it had encoding iso8859-1 .

I think the encoding setting (view - encoding) should affect only the messages

Bug#425410: Unable to retrieve message: Interrupted system call

2007-06-10 Thread Øystein Gisnås

2007/5/21, Carlos Moffat [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Package: evolution
Version: 2.10.1-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,

Evolution has lots of trouble filtering new messages on my IMAP
accounts, so I usually run the filters using 'Ctrl-Y' on individual
accounts. With 2.10, however, I'm seeing an issue where I need to wait
until the filtering is done in one account before trying to do
something else in a different account.

If I do ctrl-Y in account A and then move to account B, the filtering
stops, and most of the time I would get an error message:

Error while Filtering Selected Messages.

Unable to retrieve message: Interrupted system call

Cheers,
Carlos

Hi, Carlos

Can you still reproduce this bug? If so, is your disk partition full?
Could it be permission problems?

Bug#383638: evolution: Complains without reason about (Maildir) directories

2007-06-10 Thread Øystein Gisnås

2006/8/18, Eddy Petrisor [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Subject: evolution: Complains without reason about (Maildir) directories not
being absolute paths
Package: evolution
Version: 2.6.2-4
Severity: normal

Hello,

I have switched from a KDE based environment to a GNOME based one and
wanted to take my mail with myself. I copied the mails from the other
machine and tried to read the Maildir created by Kmail.

When trying to create a new folder in the old Maildir structure it
complains that the path is not absolte. I even tried to create that
directory in a fresh Maildir in /tmp/mail, which also failed because of
the same supposed error.

Cheers,
Øystein

Comment #1 from Jeffrey Stedfast(developer, points: 24)

do you have an account where you have [EMAIL PROTECTED] set as your email
address?

Evolution tries to sense if a message was sent to you via multiple addresses so
when you reply-all, it removes all of your email addresses from the lists.

Bug#426378: please move evolution-addressbook-export to a separate package

2007-06-03 Thread Øystein Gisnås

What about:
* package evolution-address-export as part of evolution-data-server
?

The problem is that they're two separate sources. An ideal solution
involve convincing upstream to move it..

Øystein

2007/5/28, Tomas Pospisek [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Package: evolution
Version: please move evolution-addressbook-export to a separate package
Severity: wishlist

Rationale: there are quite a few packages that use the evolution address
book. In order to be able to export data from the evolution addressbook
one needs to install the very large evolution package with dependencies.

I see four ways to implement this:

* package the addressbook separately
* package evolution-address-export separately
* add it to libebook1.2-5 (however this would add a dependency on
  libedataserverui1.2-6 to libebook1.2-5 (I'm puzzled however why
evolution-address-export would depend on a GUI component))
* create a new libebook1.2-5-utils package

I think I'd favour the second option, however the first would be
probably the cleanest. The third is probably the easiest...

I'm not sure if the change affected the evolution or evolution-plugins binary;
I rebuilt and reinstalled both.

Whether I have a working installation is unclear. My efforts to stamp out my

Bug#425954: saving an entry in the addressbook is slow like a dead snail

e-d-s is slow at times, but shouldn't be _that_ slow. On my laptop,
ekiga is slower then evolution, but it only takes about one second per
contact. Can you try an equivalent operation in evolution, and see how
long that takes? It's also interesting to know if the addressbook was
created by ekiga, or if the addressbook originally was created in
evolution.

I choose to not reopen the bug you refer to since it doesn't give any
more details about the problem.

Package: libebook1.2-5
Version: 1.6.3-5
Severity: normal

Ekiga's addressbook here contains 29 entries. Adding *one* new entry
on my P3, 866MHz, 1G RAM here takes the incredible amount of **14**
secons, while CPU usage shoots up to 100%. This makes it unusable in
practice in a lot of situations such as f.ex. manually copying over
your pen-an-paper addressbook.

The addressbook Ekiga is using is - I guess - evolution's addressbook,
since Ekiga depends on libebook1.2-5.

This problem looks suspiciously like the 2005-filled #332879.

What, I wonder, can libebook1.2-5 possibly be doing that it takes it 14s
with 100% CPU to add one simple entry to a 29 count simple data
structure?

Thanks for your report, Mario. If you have a chance to debug this a
bit, we might even solve the problem. It would be nice if you could
turn on some debugging output when you reproduce the hang.

Try start evolution-data-server in a shell with for example the
command 'evolution --force-shutdown;
/usr/lib/evolution/evolution-data-server-1.10'. Start evolution in
another shell with 'LC_ALL=C CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution'. Now do the
necessary steps to provoke the hang. Could you report the output from
the two terminals? It would be interesting to see the whole sequence
of events - what was the sequence of your actions and when did you get
the corresponding output.

Hi, and thanks for your report!

Could this issue be related to bug #364038? It seems a bit like since
it ends up in the trash. Is there any reason why the target folder
shouldn't be writeable? You may debug a bit by starting evolution with
CAMEL_DEBUG=all

The file attached is much shortened. But it might suffice to find the
problem.

The account with the problem was deactivated when starting evolution to
seperate the introduction of the problem from the many other events
happening when starting up.
I started evolution. Let the other folders synchronize and after the
program was idle, went to the settings dialogue. That is when the log
begins (apart from first lines). Then I activated the account. The last
error message repeats all the time - maybe there loops sth.
Removed some of them from the middle - there were no other messages.

Let me know if you need some more input.

I like your ideas there. To me it seems like the INBOX/SNORT folder is
a clue. Do you have a folder called INBOX/SNORT? If so, either the
folder itself is the problem, or a message in there. Maybe you can
move all the messages, and maybe also the folder somewhere else. Once
you see a change, you can start moving messages one by one, two by two
or whatever you like until we've pinpointed the problematic
message/folder.

Strange. No problems putting %s in the content here..

Can you try one more time to be completely sure this problem is still
present? First, verify that you're running the latest and greatest.
'dpkg -l evolution-data-server' should give you version 1.10.1-2. Do
the same with libebook1.2-9 and libedata-book1.2-2. Evolution itself
 should be version 2.10.1-2.

Ah, sorry I'm using a different version.

If I recall, when I first posted the bug report, I was using Sarge. I am
now using etch, and the following versions of the evolution packages:

ii evolution-data-server 1.6.3-5
ii evolution-data-server-common1.6.3-5
ii evolution-plugins 2.6.3-6

Ah, good. Then there are still good hopes it's fixed in 2.10.1.. I

 Cheers,
 Øystein

It looks like this bug has been fixed for tasks, however it still exists
for memos.

If I put a %s (or other format characters) anywhere within the memo
content, when the message is attempted to be displayed in the preview
pane, evolution crashes.
The only way to delete the message is by editing files in ~/.evolution,
then kill evolution-data-server

regards,

Try to add new entries with %s, and see if that works. If you have to
do anything else than trivially put %s in the Description field and
click the memo after, please describe that.

Cheers,
Øystein Gisnås

Bug#317867: Evolution fails to forward attachments

2007-05-05 Thread Øystein Gisnås

Package: evolution
severity 317867 minor
stop

2007/1/13, Peter Eckersley [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I have also observed this bug. It's pretty annoying.

In the example I'm seeing right now, an email was forwarded to me by a
Mac Thunderbird user; Thuderbird attached the original email in a
multi-part MIME message.

When I try to forward the whole thing, evolution flattens the various
attached messages into a single text stream but includes only a few of
the the headers from the original message, and none of the body text.

The original email is confidential but let me know if you really need an
example and I'll see if I can cook one up.

I've found a work-around by using the forward as .. attached command
but it isn't ideal.

Isn't forward as .. attached the default forward mechanism by now? I
have no problem reading the text even inline when forwarding an email
with another email attached.. Maybe I misunderstand the problem
description. Can you please check if the problem is still there in
Evolution 2.10? If so, please describe exactly the steps to reproduce,
the current result and the expected result. It would be very useful if
you could provide a sample message.

Downgrading since there is a workaround.

Cheers,

Bug#387906: evolution-data-server: EDS from experimental causes evo from unstable to crash

2007-05-05 Thread Øystein Gisnås

reassign 387906 evolution
severity 387906 normal

Evolution needs a stricter dependency on evolution-data-server version
to avoid some crashes. For example when libcamel changes SONAME, the
providers which are shipped in e-d-s might break if e-d-s is upgraded
before evo. One solution to this is to move the providers to the
libcamel1.2 package.

A more general solution is to let evolution 2.x depend on e-d-s (= 1.x.99).

I can't find this problem reported upstream so I suspect there is a

Bug#415092: evolution-exchange: Evolution has problems with Exchange inbox subfolders that have spaces in names

2007-05-05 Thread Øystein Gisnås

2007/3/16, ADFH [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Version: 2.8.1-1
Severity: important

I've gotten used to typing killall -r .*evolution.* now by reflex
whenever evolution keels over.. that I can deal with, though will be
happy when it's fixed.

What I've noticed is that whilst Evolution can now show inbox
subfolders, if those subfolders have spaces in their names, great
weirdness ensues.

I had a subfolder called Internal IT..
I went to rename it..
Evolution created a new folder called Internal%20IT..

I want to drag some files out of my inbox, into a subfolder..
If that subfolder has a space in the name, generally I'll get a message
saying the folder could not be found..

No problem with this when I try it on Evolution 2.10.1. I created
subfolder Two words, renamed to Two words2. Moved message into it,
restarted evolution, moved message out of it again.

Can you try with latestet Evolution and Evolution-Exchange in unstable?

2007/4/25, Alan Sermons [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

In my case, a similar situation occurred, upgrading the versions in
unstable to the new versions.

I have downgraded evolution-data-server and evolution-data-server-common

working again.

With evolution 2.10.1-1 in the archive, it's now possible to upgrade.
I'm downgrading the severity then, since the dependencies ideally
should have covered the phase where only evolution-data-server has a
newer version.

Beware that other dependencies, like evolution-exchange,
evolution-jescs, evolution-webcal, and others potentially can suffer
from the same problem. Please file individual bugs if you discover
such problems.

Bug#420848: Accounts no longer accessible - account editor empty and useless

2007-04-24 Thread Øystein Gisnås

I don't have an immediate fix to your problem. The problem here is
that the evolution-data-server binary package contains some private
libraries located in a versioned directory that follow libcamel's
versioning. The current structure allow two versions of libcamel to be
installed at the same time, but not two versions of
evolution-data-server. Maybe the
/usr/lib/evolution-data-server-1.2/camel-providers-*/* should belong
to the libcamel package?

The good news in a short-term perspective is that as soon as evolution
is upgraded to 2.10.1, your evolution will work again. I expect that
to happen this week. In the meanwhile, you have to downgrade
evolution-data-server in order to have a functional evolution.

Still there is a dependency problem, but the solution is not obvious,
so we'll have to think through it a couple of times..

I want you to double-double check that downgrading doesn't help. I can
reproduce the crash with 1.8.2-2. I can start it with 'evolution -c

change to mail view.

When you downgrade, make sure you downgrade libedataserver1.2-7 to
1.8.2-1, as that's the library causing the crash. If it still crashes
after the first attempt, run evolution --force-shutdown or kill e-d-s
manually and try again.

When viewing mail in evolution, everytime a message is diaplyed, the
window viewing the content of the message scrolls to the lower right
corner of the message. This fault is nearly 100% reproducable, there
are only rare occasions when the message is shown from the top (so
headers are displayed). Infact, the only time I have seen this error
not occur, was when I had a duplicate message in my inbox, and after
jumping to the top of the first message, when I selected the duplicate
from the inbox list, it displayed from the top.

Also, slightly related, the 'official' bug reporting option in the help
menu was completely broken, hence filing a debian bug against the
package.

This seems to happen with both text and HTML email, despite my having
turned off every instance I can find to not display HTML content.

For mailing lists, and other threaded discussions, it is common to
write the reply below the previous message. This has several
advantages. Since new text then appear at the bottom, it may be
convenient that the client jumps to the bottom right away. This
feature has the name caret mode. It is a matter of taste if this a
good feature, but since it is configurable, Evolution will keep it.

The question is if it by default should be on.

maildir problem after.

Hello Øystein,

I test the new release 2.8.2.1-1, no error detected yet. But there's a
new bug when you create a new account and you want to set a PATH
directory as (Maildir-format mail direcotories) in option Receiving
Email it's impossible to choose a folder you can choose only a file.

I built a new version of evolution-data-server just for you to test..
You find the .debs at http://bluebear.gisnas.net/debian/e-d-s/

You might also want the new evolution 2.8.2.1 to avoid the crash on
   exit.

  Thanks.

   Please report your results.

Can you say something about how many folders you have? Are they all
directly under Inbox, or in a tree? Roughly how many emails do you
have in each box? What does 'sysctl fs.file-max' give you (run as
   root)?

9 Directory in Maildir and the others in Maildir/Inbox

  Directory:
  0:05 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~% find Maildir/. -type d -print0 | xargs -0 ls -d |
  wc -l
  157

  0:05 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~% find Maildir/. -type f -print0 | xargs -0 ls | wc
  -l

  0:06 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~% sysctl fs.file-max
  fs.file-max = 154567

Thanks for the packaging i will test it in my virtual environnement but
not today i'm really tired :o

Bug#401010: Hang when trying to read mail in evolution

2007-01-10 Thread Øystein Gisnås

Thanks for the quick answer!

It surprises me a bit that you see the problem even when not
previewing it. The stacktrace clearly shows that it's currently
rendering the HTML (in GtkHTML).

Does it happen when you press that particular email? If so, is it
possible for you to send that email to me?

Does it crash (SEGFAULT) when the problem occurs, or does it hang
(100% CPU usage)?

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2006-October/msg00130.html
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34 and
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356913 have info about the
open files problem. They say it's fixed in 2.9.1. I looked at it, and
to be able to backport it, I need to contact the developers directly -
it's a quite complex patch.

2007/1/10, WaVeR [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Hello Øystein,

My mail is in local, i use fetchmail to fetch all my mail.

The preview panel isn't activated

Sometimes i have a error message: Impossible to create the lock file
for /home/debian/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox: Too many open files
