Bug#502509: evolution: reproducibly segfaults in Edit-Preferences-Accounts Editor
Hi, I'm unable to reproduce this problem. Could you try with the default locale (LANG=C evolution), describe which tabs you click through, and try other variations to pinpoint when and why the bug occurs. Cheers, Øystein 2008/10/17 Stanislav Maslovski [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: evolution Version: 2.22.3.1-1 Severity: important Go to Edit-Preferences, then start Accout Editor by double-clicking an account (an IMAP account in my case). Sequentially click on all tabs from the first one Identity to the last one IMAP Headers. Press OK button. Evolution will segfault. Below is the gdb log. Bug#502689: evolution-data-server: wrong time zone handling
You're probably right that something is wrong. I can't put the finger on what, though. I can see the same problem as you with the red timeline (only tried it now after daylight saving is over) being right, but Ctrl+N suggesting appointments one hour behind. I thought it maybe was using UTC time for that, but adjusting the time zone back to London just move the suggestion one hour back. It's as if it's deliberately suggesting times one hour before. For the DST, we should probably look more closely into that. I can't answer your questions about how Evolution handles time zones in detail. Maybe you could ask at the Evolution mailing list or file a bug at bugzilla.gnome.org? Cheers, Øystein 2008/10/26 Paul Menzel [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Dear Øystein, thanks you for your answer. Am Sonntag, den 26.10.2008, 17:46 +0100 schrieb Øystein Gisnås: can you check if it's correct now that there is no more daylight saving? Well, the timeline is correct now, but hitting Ctrl + N is still one hour late (screenshot attached). I do not care about that, but I think that is not the defined behaviour and therefore something does not work correctly in Evolution. Bug#466239: evolution autocomplete feature
2008/4/27 Julien Valroff [EMAIL PROTECTED]: HI Øystein, Thanks for your work on this package. Le samedi 26 avril 2008 à 18:06 +0200, Øystein Gisnås a écrit : Hi, the contact lookup int the Evolution plugin has been heavily rewritten recently. Could you please try with the newly uploaded 0.14 version and see if this has been fixed? Not for me, using exclusively LDAP address books. Note that the extension is not in the right directory for nautilus = 2.22 (still in /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-1.0/libnautilus-sendto.so instead of /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/libnautilus-sendto.so). Adding a symlink does work. As you have uploaded the package to unstable, it has been built against nautilus 2.20 - if it is built against nautilus 2.22, maybe the extension is put in the right directory (I haven't tried), but you will then have to make sure the package is re-built when nautilus 2.22 is uploaded to sid. It was expected that the upload to unstable would use extensions-1.0, or else it wouldn't work for the unstable users. It might look a bit weird that I close the bug with the upload to unstable, even though it still doesn't work with experimental. The reason is that the source code supports extensions-2.0, but needs a rebuild with the right dependencies. To verify that, I uploaded to experimental too. The 0.14.0-2 version there has no source code changes but is rebuilt against nautilus 2.22.2. Check it out! What you're saying about LDAP contact completion is that it still doesn't work? Does it work in evolution? Is the address book marked for auto completion? Could you try to see if completion works with the contact-lookup-applet? Bug#422800: Same here, also with dovecot
2008/2/6, Matijs van Zuijlen [EMAIL PROTECTED]: severity 422800 grave thanks On Mon, 2008-02-04 at 23:40 +0100, Matijs van Zuijlen wrote: I also see messages not being moved (just put in trash). I also use dovecot. Maybe this bug needs te be marked grave? Hm, yes. Evolution just lost the message it just sent. Local exim logs confirm it was indeed sent, but the message itself is not on the imap server (where the Sent box is). I have seen similar behavior where attempted moving of messages ends up with message being deleted (or moved to trash) at the source folder but never ends up at the target folder. There may be various reasons for that, but any general failure on the target side (think: pull the plug of the target mailserver) would give this, I think. As long as Evolution doesn't have proper transaction support for moving email, this will be more or less a problem. With proper error messages and a message instance in the trash, the user can cover up for the problem. I will therefore ask you to describe scenarios you have where (a) the message doesn't end up i trash, or (b) no error message is shown. Try to make it as easy as possible to reproduce the problem. Bug#295270: Please help test patch to bug #347703 and #295270 - Error while Refreshing folder: Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
Hi, A patch for the bugs reported at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=347703 and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=295270 has finally been made. I am aware that this is a serious bug that many experience. I therefore kindly for help to test this. Those of you that are capable of building evolution on your own may go to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213072 and apply the patch linked from there. For others that are able to install .debs, but not build them self, I'll build packages and upload to experimental as soon as possible. Please let me know that you want to help, and I'll notify you directly about the upload. Thanks, Øystein Gisnås
Bug#452739: Crash
2007/12/3, Brice Goglin [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Øystein Gisnås wrote: Just a minute after I sent the previous report, X.org http://X.org crashed again. This time I managed to stop gdm from starting again. The attached Xorg.0.log is the same as in the previous report, but this time with details about the crash towards the end. Would it give more info if I had the -dbg package installed? This is not a crash (segfault of the X server or so), this looks like a lockup (the server is stuck somewhere and stop processing anything else). So -dbg would probably not help, unless you can catch a segfault with gdb. Note that there are two lockups/hangs/crashes, both with output to the log. The first one happens sporadically and causes gdm to restart. Isn't that most probably a crash? The second one, when the new X server starts, may well be a lockup as you say. Wouldn't it be better to look at the first one to find the cause here? The first clue in the log is: Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds. I haven't had the problem again (after ~10 hours of use) since I downgraded to 2.1.1-4. Cheers, Øystein I tried to downgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel to 2.1.0-2, but I get a conflict with xserver-xorg-core. Can someone suggest an xserver-xorg-core-version I can use with 2.1.0-2, and where to download that? You probably want 2.1.1-4, it is available from http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/09/17/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-intel/ You won't have to downgrade xserver-xorg-core if you take this one. It this problem easy to reproduce? Did you switch to/from a virtual console right before it happened? You seem to have some VT switch related messages in your log. It is not even sure that the page table error is related to the problem. Can you check whether the page table error appears when the lockup occurs and not earlier? I might have switched to terminal, but I think I have had sessions that crashed without any switches to terminal. I can't force the crash to happen exactly when I want, but it happens quite regularly about every 2 hours. Cheers, Øystein

Bug#447233: evolution-data-server: mime words in email header not decoded
Thanks for your report and patch! I don't know much about chinese character encodings, but your points sounds reasonable to me, and also in sync with others (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446783 for example). I think the severity you set was a bit too high, so I lowered that, but will include a patch in the upcoming upload. I had to manually apply the patch, since you haven't used the diff -u format. For next time - please produce the patch with diff -u to make it easier for me. Maybe you can send an email to me with the non-conforming so that I can verify the patch? I'd also appreciate if you could test the new upload (1.12.1-1) to make sure it fixes the problem and doesn't introduce any regressions. Thanks, Øystein

I don't really care where the cursor goes, because I usually delete quoted text from the top and the bottom anyway. I guess it's a bit easier to start deleting from the top. Bug#434910: evolution sporadically becomes unresponsive, uses all CPU
2007/7/30, Daniel Leidert [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Am Freitag, den 27.07.2007, 10:01 -0700 schrieb Ross Boylan: This problem significant affects usability and the performance of my entire system. It is new since the 2.10 upgrade. When I'm using evolution, as often as every few minutes, it locks up for awhile (10 seconds?) and becomes unresponsive. It consumes all available CPU. I haven't noticed much of a pattern; I think it has happend while scrolling the message list (which is long), while scrolling a message in a compose window, and while typing a reply. I am running under KDE. My mailboxes are IMAP; some are quite large. My INBOX is 20k messages. I also observe this behaviour, mostly when walking through a very large IMAP folder, reading the mails. Then sometimes evolution becomes unresponsive for a few seconds. I cannot observe this every time. I guess, I know what's maybe causing this: I prefer to get the mails every 5 minutes. As longer as evolution runs, it needs more and more time to fetch the mails - not because the count of mails it has to fetch increases. It simply gets more and more unresponsive when fetching the mails. Say in the first hour, it needs 1 second, when I press the button to fetch the mails. After running maybe 4 hours it becomes unresponsive for at least 10 seconds when I press the button to fetch the mails. And maybe this process, that fetches the mails every 5 minutes, is causing the unresponsive times during walking through my folders too. I hope, you understand, what I want to say :) The issue is really a bit obscure. @Ross: Maybe you observe the same? The next time the issue occurs for you, could you check, if the system also gets unresponsive, when you press the button to fetch the mails? Regards, Daniel Can you also observe the memory usage in the cases where it becomes slow and compare it to normal memory usage? Cheers, Øystein

Bug#426378: please move evolution-addressbook-export to a separate package
What about: * package evolution-address-export as part of evolution-data-server ? The problem is that they're two separate sources. An ideal solution involve convincing upstream to move it.. Øystein 2007/5/28, Tomas Pospisek [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: evolution Version: please move evolution-addressbook-export to a separate package Severity: wishlist Rationale: there are quite a few packages that use the evolution address book. In order to be able to export data from the evolution addressbook one needs to install the very large evolution package with dependencies. I see four ways to implement this: * package the addressbook separately * package evolution-address-export separately * add it to libebook1.2-5 (however this would add a dependency on libedataserverui1.2-6 to libebook1.2-5 (I'm puzzled however why evolution-address-export would depend on a GUI component)) * create a new libebook1.2-5-utils package I think I'd favour the second option, however the first would be probably the cleanest. Bug#425954: saving an entry in the addressbook is slow like a dead snail
tags 425954 confirmed stop e-d-s is slow at times, but shouldn't be _that_ slow. On my laptop, ekiga is slower then evolution, but it only takes about one second per contact. Can you try an equivalent operation in evolution, and see how long that takes? It's also interesting to know if the addressbook was created by ekiga, or if the addressbook originally was created in evolution. I choose to not reopen the bug you refer to since it doesn't give any more details about the problem. Cheers, Øystein 2007/5/25, Tomas Pospisek [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: libebook1.2-5 Version: 1.6.3-5 Severity: normal Ekiga's addressbook here contains 29 entries. Adding *one* new entry on my P3, 866MHz, 1G RAM here takes the incredible amount of **14** secons, while CPU usage shoots up to 100%. This makes it unusable in practice in a lot of situations such as f.ex. manually copying over your pen-an-paper addressbook. The addressbook Ekiga is using is - I guess - evolution's addressbook, since Ekiga depends on libebook1.2-5. This problem looks suspiciously like the 2005-filled #332879. Where there is another on the same server which works fine. Thanks for your report, Mario. If you have a chance to debug this a bit, we might even solve the problem. Start evolution in another shell with 'LC_ALL=C CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution'. Now do the necessary steps to provoke the hang. Could you report the output from the two terminals? Could you report the output from the two terminals? It would be interesting to see the whole sequence of events - what was the sequence of your actions and when did you get the corresponding output. The file attached is much shortened. But it might suffice to find the problem. The account with the problem was deactivated when starting evolution to seperate the introduction of the problem from the many other events happening when starting up. I started evolution. Let the other folders synchronize and after the program was idle, went to the settings dialogue. That is when the log begins (apart from first lines). Then I activated the account. The last error message repeats all the time - maybe there loops sth. Removed some of them from the middle - there were no other messages. Let me know if you need some more input. I like your ideas there. To me it seems like the INBOX/SNORT folder is a clue. Do you have a folder called INBOX/SNORT? If so, either the folder itself is the problem, or a message in there. Maybe you can move all the messages, and maybe also the folder somewhere else. Once you see a change, you can start moving messages one by one, two by two or whatever you like until we've pinpointed the problematic message/folder. Øystein

Bug#420848: Accounts no longer accessible - account editor empty and useless
I don't have an immediate fix to your problem. The problem here is that the evolution-data-server binary package contains some private libraries located in a versioned directory that follow libcamel's versioning. The current structure allow two versions of libcamel to be installed at the same time, but not two versions of evolution-data-server. Maybe the /usr/lib/evolution-data-server-1.2/camel-providers-*/* should belong to the libcamel package? The good news in a short-term perspective is that as soon as evolution is upgraded to 2.10.1, your evolution will work again. I expect that to happen this week. In the meanwhile, you have to downgrade evolution-data-server in order to have a functional evolution. Still there is a dependency problem, but the solution is not obvious, so we'll have to think through it a couple of times.. Cheers, Øystein

Maybe this is actually the fault of e-d-s since I just upgraded it from 1.8.2-1 to 1.8.2-2. Anyway, here's a backtrace: Does this happen on every invocation? Do you have a chance to downgrade to 1.8.2-1 again and see if that's the reason? Remember to kill your running e-d-s completely before you start evolution. Can you confirm removing this patch helps? If it does, I'll upload ASAP. The patch isn't present in the unstable version, I suppose it's not affected and I'll request migration to etch if you're ok with that. I think I got you right. I can confirm that 1.8.2-1 works and 1.8.2-2 crashes. I haven't built 1.8.2-2 without the 20_too-many-open-files.patch, but I can't imagine any of the two other patches create problems in mail-mt.c.. (That's all I got.) I want you to double-double check that downgrading doesn't help. I can reproduce the crash with 1.8.2-2. I can start it with 'evolution -c $COMPONENT' with $COMPONENT != mail and it will crash and burn when I change to mail view. When you downgrade, make sure you downgrade libedataserver1.2-7 to 1.8.2-1, as that's the library causing the crash. If it still crashes after the first attempt, run evolution --force-shutdown or kill e-d-s manually and try again. Øystein

Bug#412081: Viewing messages always jumps to EOF
Package: evolution severity 412081 wishlist severity 397259 wishlist merge 412081 397259 quit 2007/2/23, David Murn [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Package: evolution Version: 2.6.3-3 Severity: minor When viewing mail in evolution, everytime a message is diaplyed, the window viewing the content of the message scrolls to the lower right corner of the message. This fault is nearly 100% reproducable, there are only rare occasions when the message is shown from the top (so headers are displayed). Infact, the only time I have seen this error not occur, was when I had a duplicate message in my inbox, and after jumping to the top of the first message, when I selected the duplicate from the inbox list, it displayed from the top. Also, slightly related, the 'official' bug reporting option in the help menu was completely broken, hence filing a debian bug against the package. This seems to happen with both text and HTML email, despite my having turned off every instance I can find to not display HTML content. For mailing lists, and other threaded discussions, it is common to write the reply below the previous message. This has several advantages. Since new text then appear at the bottom, it may be convenient that the client jumps to the bottom right away. This feature has the name caret mode. It is a matter of taste if this a good feature, but since it is configurable, Evolution will keep it. The question is if it by default should be on. Cheers, Øystein Gisnås

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like the new problem you describe is a regression in the 2.8.x series, probably independent of the crash. That means the patch for the crash works. Thanks for the quick answer! It surprises me a bit that you see the problem even when not previewing it. The stacktrace clearly shows that it's currently rendering the HTML (in GtkHTML). Does it happen when you press that particular email? If so, is it possible for you to send that email to me? Does it crash (SEGFAULT) when the problem occurs, or does it hang (100% CPU usage)? http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2006-October/msg00130.html http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34 and http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356913 have info about the open files problem.
