Hi,

I don't know at all why lates ntfs-3g release failed to build on amd64.
It worked fine on all other build daemons and is not linked with
libselinux, see:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo ldd /usr/bin/ntfs-3g

   librt.so.1 = /lib/i686/cmov/librt.so.1 (0xb7f49000)
   libpthread.so.0 = /lib/i686/cmov/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7f32000)
   libc.so.6 = /lib/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb7deb000)
   /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7fa4000)

I would say it looks like being a buildd issue...

Bug#431482: Considerations for 'xmms' removal from Debian

2007-07-03 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)

Hi Steve,

I really hate circular depency and I'm not sure it's the better way. In
fact, audacious is broken in testing for ages and forcing a build of mcs
on mipsel would fix all that crap...

Adeodato Simó a écrit :

Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Um. Which version of audacious was this? libaudacious5 isn't in
testing at all, and the stable (=testing) version of audacious works
fine for me with libaudacious4 which it depends on.

(Also filing this as a bug report.)

windlord:~ audacious
Failed to load plugin (/usr/lib/audacious/Input/libaac.so):
/usr/lib/audacious/Input/libaac.so: undefined symbol:
vfs_buffered_file_new_from_uri

Files in audacious-plugins are dlopened by audacious, so they don't
depend on any libaudaciousX package. What has happened here is that
there are no package relationships in place to prevent upstream version
skew from happening between the application and the plugins. And
audacious-plugins 1.3.X made it into testing while audacious 1.3.X did
not.

Adam, to fix this, the probably saniest way is to make the plugin
packages depend on audacious with a relationship like this:

  Package: audacious-plugins-whatever
  Version: 1.X.Y
  Depends: audacious ( 1.X), audacious ( 1.(X+1)~)

This introduces a circular dependency between audacious and
audacious-plugins, but I think that's okay and preferable to making the
plugins Conflict: audacious ( 1.X), audacious ( 1.(X+1)~). I'm sure
others in -devel will agree.

NB: this can't be fixed by just updating the audacious-plugins
dependency in the audacious package, because there are several plugin
packages and audacious does not depend on them all.

HTH,

Well, do as Joss said and tighten the audacious-plugins dependency in
audacious, *and* introduce tight dependencies against audacious in all
the rest of plugin packages. No circular dependencies.

In fact, audacious is broken in testing for ages and forcing a build
of mcs on mipsel would fix all that crap...

Well, sorry but no. It is not broken in testing because of mcs not being
built, it is broken in testing because it's not packaged correctly.

Maybe, I didn't know how to deal with this circular dependency.
Here is what I understand, let me know if there's something wrong:
audacious 1.3.X should depends on audacious-plugins (= 1.3) and
audacious-plugins ( 1.4).
That make senses now upstream and me are sure X.Y ABI will always be
incompatible with X.Z ABI.

If it's fine I'll prepare a new upload for it, however I still can't do
anything until mcs is built on mipsel ;)

Cheers,

Do you mean having the right audacious-plugins dependency on audacious
wouldn't be enough ?

Adeodato Simó a écrit :

But at a minimum, yes, the audacious-plugins package should be depending on
 libaudacious by way of shlibdeps.

There is no NEEDED entry in the plugins against libaudaciousX. Do you
mean hardcoding the dependency instead? (Which, true, solves the
 situation.)

How soon do you expect that to happen? If not soon, changing the package

No idea. I don't have skill to maintain wx2.8 and enough packages in the
archive.
I may orphan filezilla if nobody cares about wx2.8 (too much work needed

yep, that works. thanks for the suggestion.

this will be a concern for the etch-lenny transition.
Not really, I asked debian release to block deluge, so it hasn't
released in Etch (was too broken at this time).

  users will
find that their software doesn't work when they upgrade, which is very
bad. have you thought about how to support the upgrade without this
breakage?
Well, I'm not the upstream maintainer ;-) Please check and tell me if
you think a better way.
Otherwise I'll have a talk with upstream to see if it's possible to warn
user and refuse to start deluge if an old incompatible conf file is
detected.

 The release notes are:
 * new: read-write mount is supported using the force mount option if the
 logfile is unclean
 * new: libntfs-3g is versioned
 * fix: default ownership of files weren't always set to the mounting user
 * fix: mount was denied if the NTFS Master File Table copy had non-standard
 size
 * fix: catch and deny all junction/reparse point write operations
 * fix: multiply -o options weren't allowed (FreeBSD's mount(8) requires this)
 * fix: don't try to run Linux specific code on non-Linux OSes
 * fix: parsing of the first mount option could fail in the 1.411-RC test
 release
 * fix: mount failed if the -v (verbose) command line option was passed by
 mount

Another problem is that unmounting was asyncron in these early versions,
which can cause data loss, too.

So I strongly advise to drop this package, if you don't want to update it.

That's certainly persuasive to me. Adam, is there any hope of a targetted

This version can cause huge data loss, expecially if the volume is very

fragmented, valid files). This is fixed in 0.20070207-RC1 (which is
almost the same as 1.0, the first stable version.

Well, in fact, thousand of people uses ntfs-3g every days and nobody
ever reported data corruption. As the software was still in experimental

however I thinks it's stupid to drop such a famous and usefull package

 Hi Adam and Loïc,

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately, right around the time I
opened the bug report http://bugs.debian.org/391309 I got frustrated (
porting g-a-i took more patience than I had :-D ) and I didn't work on
 it anymore. But see below.

2007/3/10, Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I'd like to get gnome-app-install in Debian ASAP, preferably under
pkg-gnome co-maintenance. I would like to benefit of your efforts to
Debianize the Ubuntu package, but there were newer versions of the
package in Ubuntu addressing some of your TODOs mentionned in #391309
(at least the Python policy stuff).

Maybe uupdate(1) (it's in apt somewhere) could help you merge all the
stuff together? I don't know personally: I've never used uupdate
 myself.

Would you one of you two (or you two) be interested in being the
official Debian maintainer(s) with the GNOME team as uploaders? Do you
have time to prepare the package right now?
I would like to import the package in pkg-gnome ASAP, perhaps starting
  with the Ubuntu version and merging any Debianization changes you did;
if you're interested in maintaining this package, I can start with the
import and give you commit rights to do the merging.

  Please let me know if you're not interested in maintaining the package;
in all cases, I'm interested in any help to integrate the latest
version of the package (0.3.26) with Debian.

I am not willing to prepare the package (would take me too much time)
but if you are working on it and get stuck with a problem, or have
general architectural questions, I am glad to help. Contact me by
Jabber (jasonspiro at gmail.com), MSN, or email. Also, once the
package works, if you don't want to maintain it, I can. (Notes: I am
not a Debian Developer, and I no longer use Debian much; mostly Ubuntu
instead. I still have a machine with etch installed though it only
has 100MB or so of disk free. I am involved with emacs add-on
development nowadays and haven't been spending any time on Debian
 stuff.)

Adam, are you willing to package g-a-i?

Loïc, do you know: are the pkg-gnome people willing to package it? Are
 you?

By the way: here are my ideas for gnome-app-install:

It sounds to me like it would be annoying to maintain a full set of
patches on top of gnome-app-install that would apply to Debian. Maybe
it's better if g-a-i did checks at runtime to see what OS it was
running on and used different available-repository information and
such based on that? Should you or I contact upstream g-a-i
maintainers (g-a-i upstream is a bunch of Ubuntu developers AFAIK) and
ask them if we could have commit rights so we could get that?

 Cheers,
 Jason

P.S. Adam, I didn't get your reply: the BTS did not send me a CC of
it. I don't know why. Do you know: is the BTS automatically supposed
to send bug reporters copies of all replies to a bug report? If not,
 why not?

Hi,
For now I don't have much time to work on it, however I could give a few
help if needed.

Sorry!

Regards, Adam.

Hi,

Just have a talk with Willian Pitcock (upstream) and he tried to reproduce
this bug too, without any success.

Could you tell me exactly what you do to crash audacious, and provide a

Bug#413289: ITP: mcs -- abstraction library and tools for the storage of configuration settings

2007-03-08 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)
William Pitcock a écrit :
 Hi,

Calling the source package libmcs is acceptable, and is the approach
being taken in many other distributions which package mcs now.

I don't see any issue with that, however it needs to be packaged quickly
as some applications which use it (notably audacious) use libmcs for
 storing settings on disk now.

Source package is still mcs (who cares?), however mcs-utils has be
renamed to libmcs-utils.
It's already uploaded, waiting for ftp-masters approval :)

Hi,

Check your traceback, many picard's python modules are loaded from
/usr/local/ instead of /usr.

You must have an old manual installation that conflicts with the debian
package.

Remove it and it'll work again.

Moreover I just checked on two computers, Options worked like a charm.

= Invalid + Closed, Feel free to re-open if you're still experiencing
issues after having removed picard from /usr/local/.

Hi,

I think you shouldn't remove override in debian/fuse-utils.postrm:

 dpkg-statoverride --remove /usr/bin/fusermount || true
 ;;

This will remove any override set by the system administrator!
Morever removing the package override is already done through preinst

Bug#410032: Please package 2.6.3 (2.6.2 is a bad release).

2007-02-07 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)

Hi,

I made a 2.6.3 package, the deb-src are hosted at debian mentors:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/fuse/

Here is the changelog:
   * New upstream release.
   * Create a versioned shlibs file (Closes: #409644).
   * Fix package version in fuse-utils.postinst and do not remove
override in postrm (Closes: #388693).

   * Add watch file.

Thanks in advance.

Adam Cécile (Le_Vert) a écrit :

Package: fuse

Hi,

Could you please upograde your package to 2.6.3 ?
Neither fuse upstream nor ntfs-3g think 2.6.2 is a good release.

See this release note from 2.6.3 :
The quality of the 2.6.2 release turned out to be rather
poor, with one serious and a couple of less serious
regressions. This release will hopefully be better.

Please fix #409644 and #388693 (re-opened) too.

Thanks in advance!

PS: There is a couple of bugs who could probably be closed easily, I'll help
asap I have a few time.

your intention that this be the version of aircrack-ng that fixes this RC

Hi Vorlon,

I guessed it won't be a problem, as this patch is not part of the software

Moreover I use this patch since several motnhes, no problem here, and many

Previous hostap kernel patch was for 2.6.16, and etch will be released with

included, and works fine for me.

 thanks

 Hello,

Please find attached a patch to fix the FTBFS.

I removed mucipher.i from the sources list in Mucipher/python/SConscript.
sources is used to make a SharedLibrary, and scons has no way to use it
 for inclusion in a library.
This does not seems to be a source file. And the package builds cleanly
 without.

In the same file, I changed the order of the arguments of file_copy to
 match the Environment.Command documentation.

The change in Tools/SConscript is due to a bug in scons. I will file a bug
against scons, but for the moment, I recommend to use it (otherwise, scons
 compile with -D{'HAVE_VORBIS': 1} instead of -DHAVE_VORBIS=1)
This could be fixed in other ways (e.g. by using a tupple instead of a
 dictionnary: env_libmuscan.Append(CPPDEFINES = (HAVE_VORBIS, 1)), but
this behavior do not seems to be documented.

 Kind Regards,

Thanks for your patch.
In fact your patch fix the FTBFS but there's a new problem.
Python bindings do not works anymore :

audacious-dev can't depends on audacious because it will create a circular
dependency that woud render audacious unusable and audacious-plugins not
buildable.

Moreover audacious-dev is not UNUSUABLE because I use this package to plugin
the plugins...

That's why I downgraded severity and will just make audacious-dev recommands
audacious.

Bug#401111: libsdnfile build-depends is not enough restrictive and first alternative is virtual

AFAIK, unversioned dependencies on virtual packages are allowed. Would you
mind pointing me to the section of the policy you're referring to?

The proper way to do is to depend on libsndfile1-dev (= 1.0.10) |
  libsndfile-dev (= 1.0.10).

I don't see how this can work because versioned dependencies on virtual
 packages are not supported.

Yes sorry.

This will ensure the minimum libsndfile version requirement is available
and will allow distribution, on which libsndfile-dev install
libsndfile0-dev, like ubuntu dapper, to build the package.

But the virtual package dependencies should work fine on dapper as-is
right? So what problem does this actually solve?

The virtual package libsndfile-dev depends on libsndfile0-dev on dapper, but
the software needs at least libsndfile1-dev to build. (Same problem for
liboil-dev)
I think you should use libsndfile1-dev (= 1.0.10) | libsndfile-dev.

Why should someone want to use locale in normal user space
but not in a daemon? That doesnt make sense to me but lets
 discuss this.
 Kind regards
 Nico

Because most of people just set the default locale to which one they use
usually, as I do.
Another co-worker think this fetchmail behavior is really annoying too...

If you don't want to force C, could you at least provide a way to set the
locale ?

According to the description, both kayak and canoe implement the same.

It would be a **good** idea to add the bit about Qt and Gtk2 not

It appears taht it would also be a good idea to describe the
package in the description and not a random upstream source
package related or unrelated to this one (Upstream).

 Here are the descriptions.

Bug#398008: aircrack-ng: airodump stops recording data from ipw2100 card after reset

I'm not sure whether this counts as an airodump bug or a driver bug; I
only know that in normal use (not monitor mode) the card works fine.
I'm using an ipw2100 card with the current stock testing kernel and
its driver. airodump-ng typically stops collecting data after a couple
of minutes: the timer continues to run but no packets are seen.
Restarting causes further data to be collected. When this happens,
there is always a kernel log message like this:

Nov 10 02:27:49 localhost kernel: eth1: Reseting on mode change.

There are also often notices about the card entering or leaving
promiscuous mode. I have the card in monitor mode at the time and am
running no other processes that could touch it.

Intel ipw2x00 are not supported.

You should use a fully supported card like an atheros based one.
