Bug#474320: Should this package be orphaned?

Hi,

steam hasn't seen maintainer uploads in quite a while, and is lagging
behind upstream. I suggest we try to find a new maintainer for it.

I am sorry to say that, but I wasn't able to do some work for Debian and
will not be in the near future. I am lacking a Debian installation at
the moment and due to missing net connection most of the time, I can't
use my internet server for packaging.

The upstream has some packaging skill an they might be intrested in
maintain this by themselves. They're actually maintaining Debian sarge
scripts in distrib/debian-3.1 on their own. They only need a good sponsor.

Bye,
  Alain

PS: Sorry for the missing signature.

Bug#199520: metacity ignores fullscreen windows

This part isn't limited to a dual-head setup is it? I can reproduce it,
but I'm not sure if I would call this a bug.

I have the same problem and while this is not limited to a dual-head
setup, it makes the problem even more annoying.

So basicly I can't really use the
system in this mode, as I have to switch out of full screenmode, move
the window to the normal first screen and switch back to full screen
  again.

Isn't the actual bug that the window doesn't appear on the right
 screen?

The Bug is, that new windows don't appear on the currently active
screen, aka where the mouse is. If you have an additional screen which
is dedicated to another program, this gets even more annoying.

Are you using Xinerama or something else?

I had a mergedfb setup with this problem and I just switched to xrandr,
which shows exactly the same problem.

This is fixed too...

I have another little thing though: If I add a new last.fm Radio, e.g.
for similar artists of 'UNKLE', then it will create the Radio 'Artists
similar to UNKLE'. If I play it, it will create the Radio 'UNKLE's
Similar Artists'. Both play the same Radio. This might be
translation-related and also be already reported somewhere else.

Actually I can't play any stream with the new version. It always tells
me it can't read from the stream. But newest Amarok can't play either
atm. I'll try again later.

Also the german translation of the last.fm plug-in is completely
  out-of-context.

The changelog for the the german translation mentions an update of this,
 maybe you can check it yourself and see if it's any better;
 http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/rhythmbox/trunk/po/de.po?view=markup

This is definately fixed with 0.11.1-1+b1.

Bug#439204: Playlist gets a little mixed up - Songs are shown at wrong places

2007-08-23 Thread Alain Schroeder
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.10.1-1+b1
Severity: minor

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I guess this is some kind of corner case.

Symptom: Songs appears at wrong places
Scenario: I use a automatic, filtered playlist with the following restrictions:

 * Rating = 4
 * Genre does not contain XMAS
 * Length = 15:00

The List is sorted descending by last-played. Play is set to 'random-by-age'.

Every n-th play (didn't realize a pattern, but it happens pretty often)
when rhythmbox jumps to the next song, it actually doesn't change it's
position in the playlist, but it replaces the old song with the current
one.
It can be best recognized by looking at 'last-played', since it's value
doesn't fit into the otherwise sorted list.

I haven't checked another setup.

Bug#437118: Report broken package database to use

2007-08-10 Thread Alain Schroeder
Package: popularity-contest
Version: 1.42
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

There are currently 158 reports missing popularity-contest as a package.
These installation also tend to have very old versions of
popularity-contest. 18 of these actually report no files at all - just a
header and a footer. This is surely because of a broken package
database.

popcon should check if itself is reported and report to the user if not,
as missing entries for packages might affect security updates! Of course
passing this test does not necessarily mean that the database is not
corrupt.

Bye,

I am sorry, but I cannot replicate this on my amd64 box. Only
differences that I found are different kernel versions (2.6.20-rc4 vs.
your 2.6.21) and I currently use a newer libc6 (2.6-2).

Could you please verify that this bug is still happening with the new
libc6?

Also please include information when it does happens (My guess would be
as soon as you start it).

Bug#426699: Not Big Endian safe

2007-05-30 Thread Alain Schroeder
Package: mp3val
Version: 0.1.4-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

mp3val is not big endian safe.

Lines like
*((unsigned char *)bitrate_index)=((baseptr[index+2])4)0x0F;
(329: mpegparse.cpp)
make the Program crash on PowerPC (and every other big endian architecture).

For bitrate of 128 the bitrate_index should point to 9, but it points to
150994944.

I also checked version 1.7, but it has the same problems.

Bug#422531: What is the advantage over wakeonlan?

We briefly talked here about the advantages of etherwake and the other
 wake-on-lan tool in Debian, wakeonlan.

here ?

We reached the conclusion that essentially wakeonlan is a superset of
etherwake, with the main improvement being that it is able to be ran
 as non-root.

Well, I actually haven't used etherwake since a long time, so I wouldn't
mind dropping it. But looking into possible differences, it seems
etherwake supports passwords in form of a MAC address or an IP
address.

I'd happily add this to the description or drop etherwake, if wakeonlan
supports the same feature.

Hi.

First, I am really sorry I never got back to you earlier.

I was never able to reproduce the bug in etherwake you mentioned. Could
you please verify it with the newest version of etherwake? My guess is
that it was an unfortunate combination of version problems.

I'll close this bug in a few days, if you won't respond.

Package: wnpp
Version:
Severity: normal

From the website: Retroshare is a cross-platform private p2p sharing
program. It lets you share securely your friends, using a web-of-trust
to authenticate peers and OpenSSL to encrypt all communication.
RetroShare provides filesharing, chat, messages and channels.

It is LGPL licensed, but the sourcecode of the newest version (0.3) is
not yet available. But it looks very promising.

Who said Debian refuses to upgrade Pike? It is not wanted, but still a
more likely option than a downgrade, because a downgrade breaks ALL
dependencies and requires all recent Pike based packages to rebuild.
Does anybody know a version of Pike that actually works? A diff between
the current and that version would be very interesting!

Sounds very interesting.

Orange is released under General Public License (GPL) and as such is
free if you use it under these terms. We do, however, oblige the users
to cite the following white paper together with any other work that
accompanied Orange any time you use Orange in your publications:

This is a VERY strange addition. I think it is

 a) incompatible with the GPL, and as it links with at least Qt, this
makes Orange indistributable.
 b) senseless, because if Orange is used in a scientific publication
they have to be mentioned anyways - maybe not with this exact paper,
but I am confident everybody uses that exact paper if they do not
oblige the users, but ask them to use this paper - not another.
This of course does not help with other publications like magazins
and such.

 Ideas I have:
 * Use the newer 7.6.98 I've build (avail. at:
 http://thoth.han.pp.se/debian)
 * Seek the problem and solve it in the current package (7.6.93)
 * Go back to a older version (which should we use then)

I won't have time tomorrow. I _might_ be able to join 1-2 hours later...

The best would be to backport the latest patch to the current debian
version, if the current version actually fixes the problems. Or find the
problem with the current version directly.

Bug#360877: liferea: Cannot fetch feeds after switching networks (WLAN - VPN)

2006-04-05 Thread Alain Schroeder
Package: liferea
Version: 1.0.7-1
Severity: normal

This bug is a bit weird.

I am usually in two networks: Home, where I connect using wlan, and
University, where I connect through a wlan connection to a VPN via
vpnc.

If I switch from my home network to the university network, liferea
cannot fetch new feeds until I restartet it. (the network device changes
from wlan0 to tun0)

If I loose the current connection (uni / home) and reconnect to the
network it is no problem at all, even if the ip changes.

If I switch from the uni network to my home network it works. (I might
remember this incorrectly, though. I will test this tonight again.)

Is there any news on this?

I doubt that you can actually contact all the authors and get them to
agree to license their work DFSG free. Actually only a part might be
enough though.

Also there currently is no way to download this file anywhere on the
web, beside through a paid fileplanet account. I got that file and
actually textures are missing, if you don't have the original game data.

Due to the file not openly available, no license being attached to the
actual mod files and missing textures, I'd say this bug should be
closed.

Bug#303503: snes9x: error while loading shared libraries: libXxf86dga.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

2005-04-07 Thread Alain Schroeder

No matter how I try to invoke it, I always get:

snes9x: error while loading shared libraries: libXxf86dga.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

 However, auto-apt can't find libXxf86dga.so.1 and the packages snes9x-x
depends on don't contain it either.

Are you sure you are actually really using a Debian Binary? Please check
~/bin and /usr/local/bin or other paths in your $PATH variable if there
is a snes9x lying around.

snes9x 1.42-2 is not linked against that library. Please also try to
upgrade your xserver-xfree86 (or which one you're using) and xlibs.

If it still doesn't work, please send me the output of `which snes9x`
and the output of snes9x with strace: 'strace snes9x rom-image'.

Thank you very much.

Bye,
   Alain

Bug#295155: ITP: steam -- environment for cooperative knowledgemanagment

Can server and client both be installed with minimal dependencies? For
 example, without xlibs?

I am focused on the server at the moment, which offers a webinterface
(it has it's own webserver) as well as the possibility to connect with a
news, email, irc, ftp and jabber client. We need it, because we use it
as a backend in a PHP based website.

There are clients for the Zaurus and Java available. There also seems to
be another client written in Pike, but I don't know the status.

Bye,
   Alain

Bug#295155: ITP: steam -- environment for cooperative knowledgemanagment

2005-02-13 Thread Alain Schroeder
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alain Schroeder [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: steam
  Version : 1.5.12
Upstream Author : open sTeam-Team [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.open-steam.org/
* License : GPL
Description : environment for cooperative knowledgemanagment

sTeam provides a technical platform which allows groups of students, lecturers
and any other groups to construct and arrange their individual and cooperative
learning and working space.

sTeam consists of an object-oriented server connected to a database and Web,
Java and other (ftp, irc, ...) clients. The server is event-driven and manages
all user objects as well as the communication between the connected clients.

Different from most other cooperation tools is the novel possibility of
self-organisation and self-administration by the members within the virtual
environment.

In the core, the system provides the following self-administrating functions:

 * creation of rooms
 * granting of admission or access authorisations
 * administration and processing of objects or references to objects and
   documents located on other servers
 * carrying objects and passing them on to other users
 * use of rooms as cooperative media (e.g. Shared Whiteboard)
