Bug#528832: totem-gstreamer does not support surround sound

2012-12-16 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: totem-gstreamer
Followup-For: Bug #528832

Hi,

First of all, thanks for providing support on such an old issue: I
wasn't expecting this since I completely forgot that I filed this bug
:).

Back to topic.
I am now running Totem 3.0.1-8 on a Debian Testing, still on the same
machine, a Thinkpad X60. Surround sound support is perfectly fine
now. Maybe having Pulseaudio now is helping in this aspect. Anyway,
the bug does not occur on my side anymore. I guess it can be closed,
as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers,
Apelete.

Bug#663900: nautilus: Propose an option to open all links in new tab

2012-03-14 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.26.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Now that nautilus has tab support, it may be interesting to be able to open new
nautilus instances in new tabs by default. Here's an example:

I already have a nautilus window opened and I click on the wastebasket icon in
the panel: instead of always opening in a new window, I would like to have it
open in a new tab instead.

This will help the new tab feature be used at its best: usb keys and mounted
volumes which trigger nautilus would be opened in a new tab, saving space in
the panel for instance.

As I said it should be a configurable option, so that the current behaviour can
be keeped.

Bug#573997: epiphany-browser: Headers and footers not printed, margins not respected

2010-03-23 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Just realised my printed test case didn't have any header or footer
either, even though I set them in gconf too.
The margins are printed fine though, so my guess is header and footer
support isn't available in Epiphany yet, and that may be why there isn't
a config option for that in Epiphany at the moment.

2010-02-28 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Actually it seems to be trickier than that.
Web pages can't specify their own fonts (as you reported) but the font use is
not a system one, it's a default font chosen by Epiphany instead.
Please try to change you system font and see if the page font always change
accordingly.

When receiving such a new mail the attachment icon is shown until I
select it to be displayed in the message preview pane. Some of these
attachments are office files, some are pdf files, some are jpeg files.
At first I thought that it was because the files were automatically
displayed inline, but as I said some of those are office files
(documents and spreadsheets) and the bug still happen with such mails.
In the end I have many emails that should have been marked with an
attachment but haven't. I'm forwarding you one of those emails, with an
attached image.

I agree. I installed these packages on my Sid box with Webkit already being part
of the packages and didn't pull anything else inside. The dependency on these
two is not documented however (didn't find anything about it at least), so
maybe they should be marked as suggested dependency for Rhythmbox.

Bug#561867: evolution: Attachment icon is not always shown for concerned emails

2009-12-20 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: evolution
Version: 2.28.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Sometimes mails with an attachment fail to be marked as containing an
attachment. What I mean is that the attachment field in the list of headers
(not in the message preview pane) isn't marked with the little attachment icon
while it should. Consequently it is sometimes harder to find 'that particular
email' containing an attachment at a glance.

Regards.

Bug#559420: epiphany-browser: Many types of files are not downloadable through Epiphany any longer

Okay, I didn't know that Webkit already had HTML5 support. I understand
know :).

You should be able to request a
download explicitly by using shift-click, or through the context menu.

The context menu doesn't work (that's why this report was filed in the
first place), and I just tried shift-click and it obviously doesn't work
either... Still stuck with downloading outside the browser using wget.

The PDF files indeed have a problem, GMail is also a known-issue, I am
trying to figure out if there is another problem we need to address.

To sum up PDF as well as many other file types are (wrongly) opened
inside the browser, plus downloading through context menu or shift-click
doesn't work anymore (consequently there's no way to download those
files with Epiphany).

Cheers.

Bug#558377: gnome-bluetooth: Even obexd-server is missing functionality

2009-12-06 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-bluetooth
Version: 2.28.3-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I noticed that even obexd-server is missing some functionality: I was unable to
browse my phone memory with it installed. Nautilus keeps on throwing me the
following error:

Could not display obex://adress.of.device

Error: Method CreateBluetoothSession with signature sss on interface
org.openobex.Manager doesn't exist

Please select another viewer and try again.

The only way to browse the device again was to install obex-data-server.
Is it a bug in obexd-server (in which case I may report a bug) or is it really a
missing functionality ? If it's the latter why was obex-data-server dropped (so
soon) in the first place ?

Regards.

Bug#559420: epiphany-browser: Many types of files are not downloadable through Epiphany any longer

Excuse me, but I'm not sure I get your question.
The files were hosted on the web, they were not attachments to my mail.
I was trying to download those files and they kept on being opened right
inside the browser (the media files actually play inside Epiphany).
Just to be sure I tried to download a media (sound) file through GMail
and it failed as well: epiphany tried to open it and then the page was
redirected to my GMail account.

Bug#559420: epiphany-browser: Many types of files are not downloadable through Epiphany any longer

2009-12-04 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.29.3-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I can also confirm this bug, and the nasty consequence that many files are not
downloadable through Epiphany any longer: image and video files, as well as
archive files are being opened directly inside the browser (archive files
obviously fail to open though).
As said before the only solution is to copy the links and get the aforementioned
files with wget.

Bug#489868: resolution on the external monitor limited to the one of the build-in LCD

2009-11-13 Thread Apelete Seketeli
I recently noticed that this bug is still happening on my computer. Running
 Sid
on a Thinkpad X60 I cannot set an external monitor resolution to something
larger than the built-in LCD one.

I've tried again today, and this is working fine now. I suspect the
latest kernel update (from 2.6.30 to 2.6.31) to be responsible for the
resolution of this bug.

Trying the latest Ubuntu release on a live usb
I noticed that it wasn't plagued by the same problem, so I decided to update
 this report.

The bug can be closed now, as far as I'm concerned.

Hi,

I'm reopening this report because I've noticed that I'm having problems sending
files to my laptop and browsing files on my smartphone. None of the two are
currently working, and I thought maybe a dependency like obexd-server was
missing but installing didn't change much.
Please find attached two screenshots of the error dialog when I try to browse
files on the phone, one with obexd-server installed, and the other without.

kernel 2.6.31 has finally been uploaded to unstable. I've just installed
it and bluetooth seems to work again.

When done, would you mind confirming that everything works properly?

Sending files from phone to computer doesn't work, and browse files on
device doesn't work either, but I will investigate a bit more and
possibly file a new bug report.

if yes, I gonna mark this bug reported as fixed.

You're still planning on adding the rfkill rule patch/workaround from
Ubuntu, aren't you ? Bluetooth is now working (partially, as described
above), but I still can't disable it as a user.

Bug#553058: totem-plugins: Please lower dependency to 'Suggested'

Bug#552537: gnome-power-manager: g-p-m idle timer not based on gnome-screensaver settings

There are two problems here:

the timer delay: g-p-m timer started only when gnome-screensaver set the
the session as idle. This is not the case anymore, the two timers
(g-p-m's timer and gnome-screensaver timer) seem to be independant, is
it the (new) normal behaviour ?

to set an 11 minutes delay now ? I may have skipped a configuration
option somewhere, but it seems to me that some things have change for

I report ? Do you think this report should be re-assigned to g-p-m ?

Bug#552537: gnome-power-manager: g-p-m idle timer not based on gnome-screensaver settings

2009-10-27 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.28.1-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

After running through blanking issues with g-p-m update to 2.28 I installed
xserver-common 1.7.0 that seems to solve them.
I however noticed that g-p-m does idle timer is not based on gnome-screensaver
settings anymore: I set screensaver idle time to 10mn, g-p-m to put the display
to sleep after 1mn and although it should shut the screen off accordingly after
11mn, that happens only after 2mn of idle time. g-p-m is putting the screen in
idle state after 1mn (diming the screen) and then putting it to sleep 1min
later.
Something seems to have been broken between g-p-m and screensaver lately, will

Bug#519476: synaptic: Bug still exists

2009-10-27 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: synaptic
Version: 0.63
Severity: normal

Hi,

A few months have passed since I filed this report, and a few versions later the
bug still exists. Although not affecting usability, this bug is still an
hindrance in using Synaptic since 0.62.5. The package properties pane is getting
smaller and smaller each time Synaptic is runned, and I have no clue where the
problem might come from.
Let me know if more info is needed.

Regards.

a quick-search entry in the toolbar, a good addition to the search button

Is it possible to bring that useful over to Debian too ?

You may be right, but the fact is I'm still having blanking issue with

after that...
I don't know where that 2 min timeout comes from, but I'll be glad to

Bug#552408: deskbar-applet: Computer Actions backend is not available

2009-10-25 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: deskbar-applet
Version: 2.28.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Since the upgrade to 2.28 deskbar-applet does not provide the computer actions
backend anymore. It's therefore no longer possible to shutdown, restart or log
out using deskbar in Debian Sid.
I do not know if the backend is actually failing to load or if it has been
disabled on purpose due to gdm's state in Debian (the associated python scripts
still lie in /usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet/modules-2.20-compatible but
there's no handler in /usr/lib/pyshared/python2.5/deskbar/handlers whereas
previous versions had one).

Bug#530364: gnome-bluetooth should depend on kernel 2.6.31

2009-10-24 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-bluetooth

Hi again,

internal bluetooth device was recognised at boot, making gnome-bluetooth applet
icon appear in the panel as expected.
Since the new rfkill interface introduced by 2.6.31 is needed for
gnome-bluetooth 2.28 to work properly, I think it should depend on
linux-image-2.6.31.

Bug#552185: read/write access to the /dev/rfkill device is required

2009-10-24 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-bluetooth
Version: 2.28.3-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I've tested the kernel 2.6.31 from experimental which introduce the new
/dev/rfkill device. The lack of read/write access to this device makes the user
unable to switch bluetooth on/off (depending on its initial state). Thus I'm
asking if it would be possible to bump the bug severity and provide a way for
users to enable rfkill as Fabian suggested.

Regards.

One question, when did you notice this problem?

*after* gnome-bluetooth's upgrade or *after* bluez's upgrade?

The problem appeared after gnome-bluetooth's upgrade to 2.28. The bluez
upgrade came later and gnome-bluetooth already stopped working correctly
by then.

if you downgrade bluez to 4.42, something change? and if nothing
changes, downgrading gnome-bluetooth to 2.27.5 fixes your issue?

Using the current Sid kernel,
Downgrading bluez to 4.42: does not solve the problem
Downgrading gnome-bluetooth to 2.27.5: fixes the issue.

Hope that helped.

 What do you guys think?

Like I said providing a fix (albeit temporary) seems a better option to
me than no fix at all. Things will be better with the coming 2.6.31
kernel, but being unable to disable bluetooth is really bad for laptop
users.
If Fabian is fine with it too then you should go ahead with the Ubuntu's
workaround.

Hi,

I've been doing more tests and I realised that an USB bluetooth dongle was

is still not recognised.
I think a regression have been introduced with gnome-bluetooth 2.28.1 (2.27.5
was working properly) and some (if not all) internal bluetooth devices are no
longer recognised.

Bug#530364: gnome-bluetooth: Bluetooth applet disappeared after update

2009-10-14 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-bluetooth
Version: 2.28.1-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

Unfortunately I already had bluez installed when the problem occured. In fact I
have bluez and bluetooth packages installed and up to date (an update was pushed
few days ago).
Problem is persisting, can't use bluetooth as a user since 2.28.

Cheers.

Using a Thinkpad X60 the gnome-bluetooth applet disappeared after I updated
from 2.27.5 to 2.28.1.
Reading the documentation on Fedora's wiki I tried to put HID2HCI_ENABLE=true in
/etc/bluetooth/main.conf but it didn't help: the bluetooth preference menu is
still saying Your computer does not have any Bluetooth adapters plugged in.
Running echo enable /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth works though.

Bug#548377: epiphany-browser: Home page shouldn't be displayed on new tab

2009-09-25 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.28.0-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Since there's a keyboard shortcut to display the home page, I think this one
should only be displayed on the first tab when opening a new browser window, and
not on every single new tab in an already opened window.
That way the focus will be on the adress bar in every new tab, which is the most
efficient setting there is.

Regards.

This is to be expected. You can only use one of the setup
instructions, not both. The following lines does not enable surround
sound on my side, it simply doesn't work:

pcm.!surround51 {
type vdownmix
slave.pcm default
}

If you had something different in mind than either of the two
alternatives I tried, please tell me what full .asoundrc to try and I'll
 try it.

Vdownmix setup seems to be device dependant, according to what you say.
On a Thinkpad X60 with Intel HDA sound card I'm able to play 5.1 video
files just fine (through stereo headphones), using only these lines in
my ~/.asoundrc:

pcm.!downmix51 {
 type vdownmix
 slave.pcm surround51
}

pcm.!default plug:downmix51

If it really doesn't work then there's something 'wrong' with vdownmix.
Maybe vdownmix setup depends on the sound card ? I know that it took
me a few trials before getting 5.1 to play on my computer, and yet it
doesn't work like I would like it to (sound mixing is disabled when
vdownmix is enabled, for instance)...

What I was trying to say is that you can expect the bug: if you define
a pcm device named surround51 as a vdownmix type, and then 'plug' it
as a slave pcm in another vdownmix type pcm device...well, here comes
the bug. :)

With your setup, does speaker-test -c 6 -t wav generate sound for all
 six channels?

Ok, so I don't get the .1 output either, but is it relevant here ? The
speaker test doesn't output it, but any 5.1 video just plays fine, 6
channels and all. At lest I assume, since I don't feel like there's
any sound missing while watching...

It certainly *shouldn't* depend on the sound card.  Mixing 5.1 to 2.0 in
software should work anywhere, and I have working 2.0.  Of course, that
doesn't mean it *doesn't* depend on the sound card, just that it
 *shouldn't*. :)

Well, here is what I get on an X60:

~$ speaker-test -c 6 -t wav

speaker-test 1.0.20

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 16384
Period size range from 32 to 8192
Using max buffer size 16384
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 4096
was set buffer_size = 16384
 0 - Front Left
 4 - Center
 1 - Front Right
 3 - Rear Right
 2 - Rear Left
 5 - LFE
Time per period = 8,401077

I'll be glad to further test too, since there's obviously something
strange here.

Cheers.

 has recognized it as HTML.

I tested a file from apple.com/trailers, so yes, it's a mov file.
But your question left me wondering, and it's also true that I wasn't
able to play mov files on my Lenny box either. Maybe something has
recently changed in the Quicktime video format actually, don't know
exactly...

Bug#542326: gnome-power-manager: Still buggy, but also confusing now

2009-08-20 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.26.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The current state of g-p-m is hard to describe, but I thought I it would be best
summarized in this bug.

- When dim display when idle is set, the computer actually dims the display
when idle and trigger the DPMS setting (the default one shuts the screen off,
and it works now, as opposed to g-p-m 2.24.4-3 from Unstable) when supposed to.
The bug is the display sometimes stays dim, and sometimes it just take a little
longer to revert to default brightness (like a minute or two later than
supposed).
- When dim display when idle isn't set, the computer also activate the
screensaver but the DPMS setting is never applied: the screen remains lit even
though it isn't supposed to.

I think that's actually two different bugs that have already been reported, but
they both show in this version, and under different circumstances now (I may be
wrong though).

All the tests were done on AC power, and I couldn't run g-p-m in verbose mode
because it threw me the following error:

~$ gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon
TI:18:51:39 TH:0x8ddb158FI:gpm-main.c FN:main,231
 - This program cannot start until you start the dbus session service.

This is usually started automatically in X or gnome startup when you start a new
 session.

Bug#542733: totem: Quicktime .mov files not supported after few packages update

2009-08-20 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: totem
Version: 2.27.2-3
Severity: normal

Totem can no longer play .mov files after some packages update.
I don't know if the problem comes from totem since it was perfectly working
before these packages were updated, but at the same time I couldn't pinpoint
theexact 'faulty' one of them. The two suspected packages are:

- libmysqlclient16 (actually it was libmysqlclient15off that was removed in
  favor of it)
- libgmyth0 that went from 1:0.7.1-1.1 to 1:0.7.1-1.1+b1

Bug#528832: totem-gstreamer does not support surround sound

2009-08-19 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Just a quick update on surround sound support with totem, and with
stereo speakers.

I actually succeeded in playing a 5.1 surround video through my stereo
speakers, but that involved the vdownmix alsa plugin and was messy at
best.
When surround sound is activated through the use of vdownmix there's
no more mixing (only one application at a time can output sound), and
everything that's not surround to begin with just sound awful. So what
I was doing was basically activating surround sound when I was about
to watch a surround sound movie, and deactivate it as soon as I was
finished.
Told you it was messy...

Since it proves that surround could be obtained in Totem by fiddling
with alsa, it's perhaps something best discussed with the alsa dev
team...not sure on that one...

Let me know if more info is needed.

2009/8/18 Josselin Mouette j...@debian.org:
Yes, this is an issue that I’ve already encountered.

Glad to hear it's a well known problem.

Could you please try with totem 2.27 from experimental ? It uses the
playbin2 element, which fixes many things regarding surround.

 Thanks,

Just upgraded totem, glad to see efforts are being concentrated on the
gstreamer version from now on btw.
I tried two surround videos and the multi-channel test file, but none
of them were playing the rear channels. Fiddling with totem audio
settings to change the surround output setup didnt help either (do
these settings actually do anything btw ??).

Cheers.

Bug#542296: totem-mozilla: Totem is no longer associated to some videos files in the browser

2009-08-18 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: totem-mozilla
Version: 2.27.2-1
Severity: normal

Trying to watch some trailers at apple.com/trailers, I noticed that totem is no
longer associated with .mov videos files. Clicking on the links to play the
videos result in no action whatsoever, even though pasting the links directly
into totem shows that everything is streaming quite smoothly (yay, finally!).
The problem also appears with .mkv links (not played either, just show some
garbage on screen as if they were text files to be loaded), and .avi links too
that are proposed for download, but no streaming in the browser (at least the
videos are easily watched).

Bug#541786: vdownmix: Update documentation with totem-gstreamer setup intructions

2009-08-16 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: libasound2-plugins
Version: 1.0.20-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'm using totem-gstreamer on a laptop, and lately I've been trying to play
surround videos through stereo speakers without success.
I heard of vdownmix and tried to use it, but the info given in the vdownmix.txt
file didn't help. I think it's important to let users know how to use this
plugin with totem-gstreamer since it's the default video player for Gnome. I
noticed while googling the problem that many people are failing to play
surround sound in Totem (I couldn't find any help searching on the web, not
even in the Alsa Wiki), and some of them resort to PulseAudio for that.
I have finally succeeded in setting this up, and I thought I'll give you the
setup so you can update the documentation, making it available for other people
to use. So here is the alternative I found to use vdownmix in totem (should
work with any other player too) without PulseAudio:

pcm.!downmix51 {
 type vdownmix
 slave.pcm surround51
}

pcm.!default plug:downmix51

I don't kown if the example given in vdownmix.txt is really false, but the fact
is it didn't work on my HDA Intel enabled laptop (Thinkpad X60 btw).
Hope this help.

Package: gnome-media
Version: 2.26.0-1

I was trying to enable the vdownmix alsa plugin on my sound setup and using
gstreamer-propeties to set it to use the special pcm device I created, I
realised that the setting I put in the Custom default output plugin section is
never saved when I hit the close button.
As a consequence custom settings are not possible, and I can't tell any of my
gstreamer apps to use a particular (non standard) device when playing audio.

Hi,

Thanks for notifying me.
I've installed and tried the rebuild version, but unfortunately it is
still broken with KMS on.
Since it's the Xserver that's crashing, I'm wondering how I can trace
it from another computer (I already know how to log in from another
machine, but I don't know how I can launch X from inside gdb since
it's automatically launched at boot).
Will do some research in order to provide some backtrace, but any help
would be great.

Cheers.

Bug#534475: xserver-xorg-core: GDM crashes when trying to log into Gnome

That's the first time I'm reporting a bug with such a high priority,
didn't put much thought into it and for me it was GDM that was
crashing. But you're right, GDM was making X crash indeed.

this is probably the dri2 abi change.  rebuilding
 xserver-xorg-video-intel should fix it.

Thanks for taking care of it.

Bug#524099: reportbug: Truncate lines width in bug description

2009-06-12 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Hi,

I think this bug already shows the problems: Apelete wrote long
sentences that are not wrapped to a given column (usually 80 or 72).
This will lead to the need of *horizontal* scrolling, really annoying.

That's it Sandro, you understood exactly what I was trying to describe.

I do think this is something the the MUA / EDITOR used should no and
*NOT* reportbug (there are lines that *needs* to be long, like errors
 / stack straces co).

I thought the same, but since I write my bug reports in the terminal
using Vim (this one is written from Gmail web interface though) I
reported the bug against this package.
Perhaps there's a config option in Vim to tell it to wrap the text to
a given column...I definitely should look into that. If text wrapping
isn't available in Vim (and I seriously doubt that), I may have to
switch to another editor :'(.

Perhaps something should be written in the README.Users file, to tell
people to enable text wrapping in their editor or switch to an editor
that support it.
Anyway, I'll try investigating this Vim text wrappping option when I
have some time, and keep you informed.

Cheers.

Sure, vim has text wrapping capabilities: in command-mode type 'set

Also emacs has Meta + q to wrap text (executed on the paragraph to wrap).

Oh that's very kind of you, I learned something today, not even
needing to RTFM (not that I hate it, but you know how it feels
sometimes...).

Well, I'm a bit unsure if this is the right approach: you choose to
use an editor, and you're supposed to know how to use it (else you can
document about it). I think we cannot add any possible documentation
about the tools that can be used by reportbug.

Yeah well, I think you got a point here too :-).

That said, I think we can close the bug: Apelete, do you agree?

Agree.
See you on the next bug report.

Bug#531342: epiphany-gecko: Epiphany download manager bug

2009-06-12 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: epiphany-gecko
Version: 2.26.1-1
Severity: normal

As I said when asking for the reassignment of this bug from gnome-panel to
epiphany-gecko, Epiphany doesn't free the space in the gnome-panel when its
donwload manager exits.
In fact each time Epiphany opens a download manager window in the notification
area, the space taken isn't freed when the download finishes. As a consequence
the notification area grows after each download with Epiphany, until Epiphany is
restarted; even then the space is not completely (or not all) freed sometimes.

Bug#531342: gnome-panel: Notification area doesn't free icons space when applications are closed

2009-05-31 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: normal

Since version 2.24 the notification area in gnome panel fails to free space
allocated to an application icon when that application exits.
As a consequence the notification area tends to grow each time I launch an app
that sits in the area.
The only solution is to kill and restart gnome-panel.
I have attached a screenshot to show the problem.

Cheers.

Bug#525901: More info

2009-05-23 Thread Apelete Seketeli
I tried many things again, here it goes:

- when I logged in my session I saw that bluetooth-applet was launched
(even though obex-data-server was not launched, because it has
automatically been removed from the system with the last update) but I
couldn't activate bluetooth with Fn+F5, only through terminal with
'echo enable /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth' as root. Bluetooth applet
doesn't appeared in the system tray as it used to, however (it's set
up that way on my laptop, to only show up when bluetooth is enabled).

- I killed bluetooth-applet and tried to re-run it and got the error
Bluetooth OBEX server failed: The name org.openobex was not provided
by any .service files.
So I reinstalled obex-data-server and re-run bluetooth-applet again,
and this time it was Bluetooth OBEX server failed: Bluez DBus
interface not available.
Running it as root I got an error too:
Can't get session bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.
To sum it up I am unable to launch bluetooth-applet by hand, neither
as root, nor as user, perhaps because bluez-gnome needs to be updated
to match bluetooth-4.40.
The program is however automatically launched if I log in (even with
obex-data-server uninstalled, I tried it again).

Hope it was clear and helpful,
Cheers.

can you at least see the device with hciconfig?

Ok, so here's what I got:

doesn't create an input event anymore (even if it doesn't matter
because you need to run hciconfig as root)

- as root hciconfig -a returns nothing if bluetooth is deactivated

- always as root, with bluetooth enabled from command line I got this:

This one has been around for some time now.
When I choose a buddy icon, the contacts I chat with do not see it, even though
the icon shows in the bottom of my contact list next to my status selector.
The bug happens on both my gmail and msn accounts.

2009-05-20 Thread Apelete Seketeli

I'm unable to upgrade to the newer version since it fails to install with the
same error.
Doing a dpkg --contents on the downloaded package shows however that
/var/lib/openoffice/share is present in it:

So it just needs to be created during the install or move
javasettingsunopkginstall.xml to /var/lib/openoffice (as in version 3.1.0-1).

Bug#476118: network-manager: Difficulties trying to connect to a WPA/TKIP/PEAP-PEAP/MSCHAPv2 protected Eduroam hotspot

2009-05-14 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: normal

I can confirm these problems on my side: I also have difficulties trying to
connect to my college Eduroam access point.
Experiencing the same symptoms: NM sometimes asks to re-enter the login et
password info (even though it is already stored in keyring), sometimes it just
crashes trying to connect, and sometimes fails to connect and switch to any
unsecure hotspot close by.

I'm using an Intel wifi card with iwl3945 driver.

Bug#525901: bluez-gnome: Affecting Lenny too

2009-04-29 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: bluez-gnome
Version: 0.27-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

I have made some more tests, and there's many thing I've found.

First, the bug is affecting Lenny too.
I have tried to enable bluetooth on a friend's Lenovo X61 running Lenny, and it
isn't working either.
Launching bluetooth-applet in the terminal produces the same error as before,
but it is working if launched by root.

Secondly using Fn+F5 (to enable bluetooth) isn't working either (on Sid, not
sure for Lenny).
Running xev on my Sid box, I discovered that the key combo isn't handled
anymore.
Thinkpad_acpi.modprobe was removed upstream from acpi-support, because it was
said to be not needed anymore: now Fn+F5 isn't working.
I know this second one should perphaps be assigned to acpi-support, but I'm not
sure it's relevant since bluetooth isn't working either.

Please let me know if more info is needed.

Cheers.

Bug#525901: bluez-gnome: Bluetooth applet does not start

2009-04-27 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: bluez-gnome
Version: 0.27-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I'm using a Thinkpad X60, and using Fn+F5 to activate bluetooth doesn't work on
my machine.
When I start bluetooth-applet, here is what I get:

Bluetooth OBEX server failed: Bluez DBus interface not available

After checking the modules I can say that everything needed is loaded
(bluetooth, uhci_hcd and ehci_hcd).
Restarting bluetooth doesn't help either.

I have wrote this report before, as part of bug #514701, but I'm part of the
netdev group and couldn't solve the problem so I filed it as a new bug.

Please have a look at the problem and revert to 2.14 padding/spacing style.

Bug#522266: gnome-keyring is still misbehaving

2009-04-22 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: gnome-keyring
Version: 2.26.0-4
Severity: normal

I'm still having some problems with gnome-keyring too.
Here's a description of the problem:
 - when I log in gnome-keyring sometimes (quite frequently) fails to unlock the
keyring (though it is started),
 - mail-notification thus fails to check my mail. If I launch seahorse I'm
asked to manually enter the keyring password,
 - after doing so, mail-notification stills fails to connect to the keyring
daemon
 - if I end the mail-notification process and relaunch it, problem is solved

I have attached a file containing errors related to the problem (extracted from
.xsession-errors).

Bug#523953: Got some clarifications

2009-04-21 Thread Apelete Seketeli
I have made some research on the state of the 2.7.0 Intel driver.
From what I've read, the problems I have come from my using of
Metacity's compositing manager. The new intel driver currently has
some tearing and framerate (among others) problems while watching
videos in a composited environment. The good news is that upstream
seems to be fully aware of the problem, and the bad is there's no way
to know (AFAIK) how much time (and effort) it will take before the
driver improves.
Disabling compositing helps with the video (not with the general
redraw speed on the desktop though), for those seeking for a
workaround.

Thanks for the hard work,
Keep it up.

Bug#524899: epiphany-gecko: Epiphany fails to load Google Maps properly

2009-04-20 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Package: epiphany-gecko
Version: 2.24.3-2
Severity: normal

Epiphany is unable to completely render google maps webpages since version 2.24.
If I try to load a Google Maps page, the google loading sign stays forever,
and the page is never fully loaded.
As a consequence the maps are static (you cannot interact with them) and the
service is unusable.
The problem doesn't exist on version 2.22 in Lenny.

Bug#524899: epiphany-gecko: Epiphany fails to load Google Maps properly

2009-04-20 Thread Apelete Seketeli
I’m afraid I cannot reproduce that with the latest versions of Epiphany
 and Xulrunner.

Do you have any hints about how to reproduce the issue?

Ok, I managed to narrow the source of the bug.
It seems there's a rule in Ad Block filterset that is preventing
Google maps from working properly. I wasn't able to identify the said
rule however, and I don't know how to get that information. Disabling
the extension solves the problem, but it really is a pity to be forced
to load all the junk in each webpage...

Whitelisting maps.google.com is another workaround though, bug solved ?

Regards.
