Bug#528832: totem-gstreamer does not support surround sound
Package: totem-gstreamer Followup-For: Bug #528832 Hi, First of all, thanks for providing support on such an old issue: I wasn't expecting this since I completely forgot that I filed this bug :). Back to topic. I am now running Totem 3.0.1-8 on a Debian Testing, still on the same machine, a Thinkpad X60. Surround sound support is perfectly fine now. Maybe having Pulseaudio now is helping in this aspect. Anyway, the bug does not occur on my side anymore. I guess it can be closed, as far as I'm concerned. Bug#663900: nautilus: Propose an option to open all links in new tab
Package: nautilus Version: 2.26.2-3 Severity: wishlist Now that nautilus has tab support, it may be interesting to be able to open new nautilus instances in new tabs by default. Here's an example: I already have a nautilus window opened and I click on the wastebasket icon in the panel: instead of always opening in a new window, I would like to have it open in a new tab instead. This will help the new tab feature be used at its best: usb keys and mounted volumes which trigger nautilus would be opened in a new tab, saving space in the panel for instance. Epiphany uses WebKit, which supports HTML5 media elements, and is able to play sound and video files itself, which is why it just plays them. Okay, I didn't know that Webkit already had HTML5 support. I understand know :). You should be able to request a download explicitly by using shift-click, or through the context menu. The context menu doesn't work (that's why this report was filed in the first place), and I just tried shift-click and it obviously doesn't work either... Still stuck with downloading outside the browser using wget. The PDF files indeed have a problem, GMail is also a known-issue, I am trying to figure out if there is another problem we need to address. To sum up PDF as well as many other file types are (wrongly) opened inside the browser, plus downloading through context menu or shift-click doesn't work anymore (consequently there's no way to download those files with Epiphany). Bug#489868: resolution on the external monitor limited to the one of the build-in LCD
I recently noticed that this bug is still happening on my computer. Running Sid on a Thinkpad X60 I cannot set an external monitor resolution to something larger than the built-in LCD one. I've tried again today, and this is working fine now. I suspect the latest kernel update (from 2.6.30 to 2.6.31) to be responsible for the resolution of this bug. Package: gnome-bluetooth Version: 2.28.3-1 Severity: normal Hi, I'm reopening this report because I've noticed that I'm having problems sending files to my laptop and browsing files on my smartphone. Bug#530364: kernel 2.6.31 in NEW
On Sun, 2009-10-25 at 14:55 +0100, Andrea Veri wrote: hi, kernel 2.6.31 is in NEW now, it will be accepted soon and should be then available to be installed as an update. kernel 2.6.31 has finally been uploaded to unstable. I've just installed it and bluetooth seems to work again. When done, would you mind confirming that everything works properly? Sending files from phone to computer doesn't work, and browse files on device doesn't work either, but I will investigate a bit more and possibly file a new bug report. if yes, I gonna mark this bug reported as fixed. You're still planning on adding the rfkill rule patch/workaround from Ubuntu, aren't you ? Bluetooth is now working (partially, as described above), but I still can't disable it as a user. This is not the case anymore, the two timers (g-p-m's timer and gnome-screensaver timer) seem to be independant, is it the (new) normal behaviour ? - to set the timer 2.24 was relying on a slider, 2.28 now has a combobox with preset values: 1, 5, 10, 30, 60 minutes or never. Bug#552185: read/write access to the /dev/rfkill device is required
Package: gnome-bluetooth Version: 2.28.3-1 Severity: important Hi, I've tested the kernel 2.6.31 from experimental which introduce the new /dev/rfkill device. The lack of read/write access to this device makes the user unable to switch bluetooth on/off (depending on its initial state). So in the end it should be included into bluez API but for now I guess I'll have to use Ubuntu's workaround. What do you guys think? Like I said providing a fix (albeit temporary) seems a better option to me than no fix at all. Things will be better with the coming 2.6.31 kernel, but being unable to disable bluetooth is really bad for laptop users. If Fabian is fine with it too then you should go ahead with the Ubuntu's workaround. On a Thinkpad X60 with Intel HDA sound card I'm able to play 5.1 video files just fine (through stereo headphones), using only these lines in my ~/.asoundrc: pcm.!downmix51 { type vdownmix slave.pcm surround51 } pcm.!default plug:downmix51 If it really doesn't work then there's something 'wrong' with vdownmix. Maybe vdownmix setup depends on the sound card ? I know that it took me a few trials before getting 5.1 to play on my computer, and yet it doesn't work like I would like it to (sound mixing is disabled when vdownmix is enabled, for instance)... -- Apelete Seketeli apel...@seketeli.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Ok, so I don't get the .1 output either, but is it relevant here ? The speaker test doesn't output it, but any 5.1 video just plays fine, 6 channels and all. At lest I assume, since I don't feel like there's any sound missing while watching... It certainly *shouldn't* depend on the sound card. Mixing 5.1 to 2.0 in software should work anywhere, and I have working 2.0. Bug#542326: gnome-power-manager: Still buggy, but also confusing now
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.26.3-1 Severity: normal Hi, The current state of g-p-m is hard to describe, but I thought I it would be best summarized in this bug. - When dim display when idle is set, the computer actually dims the display when idle and trigger the DPMS setting (the default one shuts the screen off, and it works now, as opposed to g-p-m 2.24.4-3 from Unstable) when supposed to. The bug is the display sometimes stays dim, and sometimes it just take a little longer to revert to default brightness (like a minute or two later than supposed). - When dim display when idle isn't set, the computer also activate the screensaver but the DPMS setting is never applied: the screen remains lit even though it isn't supposed to. I think that's actually two different bugs that have already been reported, but they both show in this version, and under different circumstances now (I may be wrong though). All the tests were done on AC power, and I couldn't run g-p-m in verbose mode because it threw me the following error: ~$ gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon TI:18:51:39 TH:0x8ddb158FI:gpm-main.c FN:main,231 - This program cannot start until you start the dbus session service. Bug#528832: totem-gstreamer does not support surround sound
Just a quick update on surround sound support with totem, and with stereo speakers. I actually succeeded in playing a 5.1 surround video through my stereo speakers, but that involved the vdownmix alsa plugin and was messy at best. When surround sound is activated through the use of vdownmix there's no more mixing (only one application at a time can output sound), and everything that's not surround to begin with just sound awful. So what I was doing was basically activating surround sound when I was about to watch a surround sound movie, and deactivate it as soon as I was finished. Told you it was messy... Since it proves that surround could be obtained in Totem by fiddling with alsa, it's perhaps something best discussed with the alsa dev team...not sure on that one... Let me know if more info is needed. -- Apelete Seketeli apel...@seketeli.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#541786: vdownmix: Update documentation with totem-gstreamer setup intructions
Package: libasound2-plugins Version: 1.0.20-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I'm using totem-gstreamer on a laptop, and lately I've been trying to play surround videos through stereo speakers without success. I heard of vdownmix and tried to use it, but the info given in the vdownmix.txt file didn't help. I think it's important to let users know how to use this plugin with totem-gstreamer since it's the default video player for Gnome. I noticed while googling the problem that many people are failing to play surround sound in Totem (I couldn't find any help searching on the web, not even in the Alsa Wiki), and some of them resort to PulseAudio for that. I have finally succeeded in setting this up, and I thought I'll give you the setup so you can update the documentation, making it available for other people to use. So here is the alternative I found to use vdownmix in totem (should work with any other player too) without PulseAudio: pcm.!downmix51 { type vdownmix slave.pcm surround51 } pcm.!default plug:downmix51 I don't kown if the example given in vdownmix.txt is really false, but the fact is it didn't work on my HDA Intel enabled laptop (Thinkpad X60 btw). On Tue, Jun 30, 2009 at 13:56, Didier 'OdyX' Rabouddid...@raboud.com wrote: Hi all, For those waiting for a xserver-xorg-video-intel rebuild, Brice Goglin did one, available from his personal folder: http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/rebuilds/Xserver1.6-ABIbreak/intel/ Hi, Thanks for notifying me. I've installed and tried the rebuild version, but unfortunately it is still broken with KMS on. Since it's the Xserver that's crashing, I'm wondering how I can trace it from another computer (I already know how to log in from another machine, but I don't know how I can launch X from inside gdb since it's automatically launched at boot). Will do some research in order to provide some backtrace, but any help would be great. Bug#534475: xserver-xorg-core: GDM crashes when trying to log into Gnome
On Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 19:41, Julien Cristaujcris...@debian.org wrote: sigh. how is an X crash unrelated to X? That's the first time I'm reporting a bug with such a high priority, didn't put much thought into it and for me it was GDM that was crashing. Bug#524099: reportbug: Truncate lines width in bug description
Hi, I think this bug already shows the problems: Apelete wrote long sentences that are not wrapped to a given column (usually 80 or 72). This will lead to the need of *horizontal* scrolling, really annoying. That's it Sandro, you understood exactly what I was trying to describe. I do think this is something the the MUA / EDITOR used should no and *NOT* reportbug (there are lines that *needs* to be long, like errors / stack straces co). I thought the same, but since I write my bug reports in the terminal using Vim (this one is written from Gmail web interface though) I reported the bug against this package. Perhaps there's a config option in Vim to tell it to wrap the text to a given column...I definitely should look into that. If text wrapping isn't available in Vim (and I seriously doubt that), I may have to switch to another editor :'(. Perhaps something should be written in the README.Users file, to tell people to enable text wrapping in their editor or switch to an editor that support it. Anyway, I'll try investigating this Vim text wrappping option when I have some time, and keep you informed. Bug#524099: reportbug: Truncate lines width in bug description
On Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 10:40, Sandro Tosimo...@debian.org wrote: Sure, vim has text wrapping capabilities: in command-mode type 'set textwidth=80 or replace 80 with the column number you want your text to be wrapped around. Also emacs has Meta + q to wrap text (executed on the paragraph to wrap). Oh that's very kind of you, I learned something today, not even needing to RTFM (not that I hate it, but you know how it feels sometimes...). Well, I'm a bit unsure if this is the right approach: you choose to use an editor, and you're supposed to know how to use it (else you can document about it). I think we cannot add any possible documentation about the tools that can be used by reportbug. Yeah well, I think you got a point here too :-). That said, I think we can close the bug: Apelete, do you agree? Agree. See you on the next bug report. Bug#531342: epiphany-gecko: Epiphany download manager bug
Package: epiphany-gecko Version: 2.26.1-1 Severity: normal As I said when asking for the reassignment of this bug from gnome-panel to epiphany-gecko, Epiphany doesn't free the space in the gnome-panel when its donwload manager exits. Bug#525901: More info
I tried many things again, here it goes: - when I logged in my session I saw that bluetooth-applet was launched (even though obex-data-server was not launched, because it has automatically been removed from the system with the last update) but I couldn't activate bluetooth with Fn+F5, only through terminal with 'echo enable /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth' as root. Bluetooth applet doesn't appeared in the system tray as it used to, however (it's set up that way on my laptop, to only show up when bluetooth is enabled). - I killed bluetooth-applet and tried to re-run it and got the error Bluetooth OBEX server failed: The name org.openobex was not provided by any .service files. So I reinstalled obex-data-server and re-run bluetooth-applet again, and this time it was Bluetooth OBEX server failed: Bluez DBus interface not available. Running it as root I got an error too: Can't get session bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. To sum it up I am unable to launch bluetooth-applet by hand, neither as root, nor as user, perhaps because bluez-gnome needs to be updated to match bluetooth-4.40. The program is however automatically launched if I log in (even with obex-data-server uninstalled, I tried it again). Bug#525901: bluez-gnome: Affecting Lenny too
Package: bluez-gnome Version: 0.27-1 Severity: grave Hi, I have made some more tests, and there's many thing I've found. First, the bug is affecting Lenny too. I have tried to enable bluetooth on a friend's Lenovo X61 running Lenny, and it isn't working either. Launching bluetooth-applet in the terminal produces the same error as before, but it is working if launched by root. Secondly using Fn+F5 (to enable bluetooth) isn't working either (on Sid, not sure for Lenny). Running xev on my Sid box, I discovered that the key combo isn't handled anymore. Thinkpad_acpi.modprobe was removed upstream from acpi-support, because it was said to be not needed anymore: now Fn+F5 isn't working. I know this second one should perphaps be assigned to acpi-support, but I'm not sure it's relevant since bluetooth isn't working either. Please let me know if more info is needed. Cheers. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#523953: Got some clarifications
I have made some research on the state of the 2.7.0 Intel driver. From what I've read, the problems I have come from my using of Metacity's compositing manager. The new intel driver currently has some tearing and framerate (among others) problems while watching videos in a composited environment. The good news is that upstream seems to be fully aware of the problem, and the bad is there's no way to know (AFAIK) how much time (and effort) it will take before the driver improves. Disabling compositing helps with the video (not with the general redraw speed on the desktop though), for those seeking for a workaround. Thanks for the hard work, Keep it up. -- Apelete Seketeli apel...@seketeli.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? The problem doesn't exist on version 2.22 in Lenny. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages epiphany-gecko depends on: ii dbus-x111.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii epiphany-browser-data 2.24.3-2 Data files for the GNOME web brows ii gnome-icon-theme2.24.0-4 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii iso-codes 3.8-1ISO language, territory, currency, ii libavahi-client30.6.25-1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common30.6.25-1 Avahi common library ii libavahi-gobject0 0.6.25-1 Avahi GObject library ii libc6 2.9-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcanberra-gtk00.11-1 Gtk+ helper for playing widget eve ii libcanberra00.11-1 a simple abstract interface for pl ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.80-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libenchant1c2a 1.4.2-3.3a wrapper library for various spel ii libgcc1 1:4.3.3-8GCC support library ii libgconf2-4 2.26.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.4-1library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-02.20.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome2-0 2.24.1-2 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomeui-02.24.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.1-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libnotify1 [libnotify1-gtk2 0.4.5-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libnspr4-0d 4.7.4-2 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii libpango1.0-0 1.24.0-3+b1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libstdc++6 4.3.3-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.2.1-1X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.7.3.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii libxslt1.1 1.1.24-2 XSLT processing library - runtime ii python2.5 2.5.4-1 An interactive high-level object-o ii xulrunner-1.9 1.9.0.8-1XUL + XPCOM application runner ii xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support 1.9.0.8-1Support for GNOME in xulrunner app Versions of packages epiphany-gecko recommends: ii epiphany-extensions 2.24.3-1 Extensions for Epiphany web browse ii yelp 2.24.0-2 Help browser for GNOME 2 Versions of packages epiphany-gecko suggests: pn mozpluggernone (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#524899: epiphany-gecko: Epiphany fails to load Google Maps properly
I’m afraid I cannot reproduce that with the latest versions of Epiphany and Xulrunner. Do you have any hints about how to reproduce the issue? Ok, I managed to narrow the source of the bug. It seems there's a rule in Ad Block filterset that is preventing Google maps from working properly. I wasn't able to identify the said rule however, and I don't know how to get that information. Disabling the extension solves the problem, but it really is a pity to be forced to load all the junk in each webpage... Whitelisting maps.google.com is another workaround though, bug solved ?
