Bug#881480: docker build fails to run citing runc extraneous option "-console"

2017-11-12 Thread Baruch Even
Package: docker.io
Version: 1.13.1~ds2-3
Severity: grave

I dist-upgraded my system today and tried to do a docker build, it
fails with the error:

Incorrect Usage: flag provided but not defined: -console
... (mostly runc help message)
flag provided but not defined: -console
oci runtime error: flag provided but not defined: -console

I've seen in the past a similar issue that said to downgrade parts but
I can't see in the NEW queue anything else related to docker.io that
is not yet pushed through or I would have manually upgraded that.

As it is now it seems that docker.io is broken in unstable.

Bug#781625: arduino-mk should depend or recommend screen

Subject: arduino-mk: missing dependency on screen
Package: arduino-mk
Version: 1.3.4-1

Dear Maintainer,

Using make monitor tries to fire up screen and that failed since
screen wasn't installed for me (new system). arduino-mk should depend or
at least recommend on screen to hint to the user that he should install
something else.

fixed and this bug report retested and closed.

Bug#397632: gpart should not be little endian specific

2015-03-13 Thread Baruch Even
In the v0.2 branch I tried to fix such issues by collating patches from the
various distributions. If there are still issues of endianes they should be
reported and fixed.

I believe there are no such issues right now but have no ability to test it
all myself.

Thanks,

Bug#771354: kicad templates default to /usr/bin/../share/templates

2014-11-28 Thread Baruch Even
package: kicad
version: 0.20141025+bzr4029-1
severity: major

The kicad as installed attempts to load templates from
/usr/share/templates instead of /usr/share/kicad/templates which makes
it rather unusable unless you want to work without a template at all.

The templates come from the kicad-common package.

Bug#669299: rubber: URL of home page is outdated

2012-04-19 Thread Baruch Even
The maintainer was Emanuel Befarra who is also the upstream author. I was
co-maintainer to help him get it into Debian but in fact he did most of the
packaging work as well.

As I have no time to maintain my packages properly if there are volunteers
to take over I'd be happy to give ownership over the package.

Usually, this, is a problem with gstreamer. In order to sort that out,
do you have the same result with the following command?

Package: exo-utils

This fails with the message:

Error stating file '/tmp/a': No such file or directory.

Using less on the same filename works (to the extent that less can
open the file).

This is a reduced test case from a longer filename the constantly
fails for me and contains multiple hashes and other unnatural
characters.

Bug#504709: Xen console problems

2008-11-06 Thread Baruch Even
Subject: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64: DomU console problems
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-8
Severity: important

I created a Xen DomU with xen-tools with:
xen-create-image -debootstrap -dir=/home/xen -size=20Gb -memory=512Mb -fs=ext3
-cache=yes -dist=lenny -hostname=mapnik -ip 10.0.0.1 -netmask 255.0.0.0
-gateway 10.0.0.254 -mirror=http://mirror.isoc.org.il/pub/debian/
--role=minimal --image=sparse

I got a proper disk image and swap image that I can loop mount.

I try to start it with;
xm create -c /etc/xen/mapnik.cfg

It starts to boot and then there are no longer console messages and there is no
console login. The last message is about the lo driver. I attach the console
log.

If I try to connect with ssh (using NAT networking) I can connect and after
loop mounting and setting a root password I can even login but I get an error
that there is no tty and I cannot do much beyond that. I can however connect
with ssh to execute commands inside the machine such as ls / and things seem to
work and booted.

Bug#462612: [Debian-hebrew-package] Bug#462612: [libfribidi0] I second on that

I second on that . I had problems with displaying Arabic subtitles in
vlc . I compiled the .19.X version to fix the problem .
Why this wishlist bug wasn't acted on . The upstream version should have
been uploaded and tested to be included in Lenny .
Anyway , too late for that .
The .19.x version should be uploaded to unstable . It adds functionality
(crucial for Arabic support) and It wouldn't break anything IMO .

The problem mostly has to do with time that we maintainers have to
update the package.

fribidi is an important package for many packages in Debian and it
requires a lot of caution when updating. The problem starts with the
fact that upstream developer doesn't update sonames so that if an abi or
api is changed packages can break with no warning and all depending apps
require a rebuild with the new version.

A volunteer to maintain fribidi faster than I can is more than welcome!

Thanks,
Baruch

Bug#322719: The bug seems to be fixed

2008-06-09 Thread Baruch Even
Hi,

The bug seems to be fixed as the linked bug
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=297579 does not report
an error any more.

Since the bug is merged with a large set of bugs I'm reluctant to close
it myself.

Bug#482633: RFA: mdk -- MIX Development Kit

2008-05-23 Thread Baruch Even
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the mdk package. I don't have time to properly
maintain it and it needs some love. Upstream is responsive and releases
are not happening too often.

The package description is:
MDK stands for MIX Development Kit, and provides tools for developing
and executing, in a MIX virtual machine, MIXAL programs.
 .
The MIX is Donald Knuth's mythical computer, described in the first
volume of The Art of Computer Programming, which is programmed using
 MIXAL, the MIX assembly language.
 .
MDK includes a MIXAL assembler (mixasm) and a MIX virtual machine
(mixvm) with a command line interface. In addition, a GTK+ GUI to
mixvm, called gmixvm, and a Guile interpreter with an embedded MIX
virtual machine called mixguile, are provided.
 .
Using these interfaces, you can debug your MIXAL programs at source
code level, and read/modify the contents of all the components of the
MIX computer (including block devices, which are simulated using the
 file system).

What contents did it have? If you downloaded plugins yourself the package
will not remove them on purge. Please send me the list of files in that

I no longer have the directory as I removed it manually afterwards. I

Bug#444684: websec: --urllist full path not considered as full path when starting with /

 Hi websec maintainers,
 When I start websec as
   websec --urllist $HOME/.websec/url.list
thus giving it a full absolute path for a configuration file
to avoid any ambiguity - I get the following answer:

 | Web Secretary Ver 1.9.0
 | By Chew Wei Yih Copyleft (c) 1998
 |
 | Missing config file .//home/olaf/.websec/url.list, Exiting.

 Yes, the man page says,
--base Base directory for configuration (~/.websec by default)

I think this is very good for relative paths but rather confusing when
simly using a fully qualified path starting with a /.

Many people who want to stress that they mean: yes, do use exactly this
file and no other use this notation. You already made a nice step
towards that direction honouring an urllist file in the current
directory disregarding the default --base setting.

If you don't mind to include the little 3-liner I attached it would be
 great.

The patch is missing.

 Hi,

Would not this dumb patch (applied to the latest mercurial repository)
avoid throwing cached data away when the gpg signature is not valid ?

It will stop removing the files but it doesn't do anything to warn the
user and ask for special permission. There is a reason for the gpg
check, to protect against malicious attackers changing the kernel
sources without the users noticing it.

If the user doesn't have the key to check against he should be warned
about it and subsequent attempts should fail as well, unless the user
explicitly overrides the gpg check.

I believe this patch is incomplete in its current form.

Bug#434729: Manpage not sufficiently self-contained

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

 Hi,

the kvm manpage is not self-contained and refers to the qemu one. The thing
 is
qemu is no dependancy of kvm, so I have to install qemu to get to know how
 kvm works.

I agree its not the best way to do it. It's an artifact from the time
kvm depended on qemu.

In any case my plan to go forward is to integrate kvm into qemu in
Debian and eliminate the need for the manpage altogether.

You can get the menu back via

   * CTRL-M (depending on your locale) or
   * by removing the menubar-line in the configfile ~/.reportbug-ng and
 restarting rng

I found the ctrl-m solution by chance but it's very not obvious.

I'm not sure if this is a bug. And if, I don't see how to fix it without
 removing this feature again.

Removing this feature is the way IMO. What is the rationale for this
feature at all?

I've never seen an application that allows to remove the main menu
completely.

The rationale is: I hate the menu and don't want to see it. I need a way
to disable it. But I know some users will need the menu so the
compromise is to make the menu optional but enabled by default.

In that case I'll go for a different route. Eliminate this option from
the menu bar (you don't want to see the menu anyway) and put this as an
advanced option in the config file only.

This way most users will not be able to shoot themselves in the foot and
you'll have your favourite option.

Cheers,

Bug#433521: Should sort when clicking list titles

2007-07-17 Thread Baruch Even

Package: reportbug-ng
Version: 0.2007.07.12
Severity: wishlist

One thing that can be very useful is easy sorting of the list of bugs.
GTK+ lists have a standard feature where pressing the list titles a sort
is done. AFAIK this requires enabling it and for simple data (text and
numbers) sorting can work with not much extra work.

Bug#433580: Doesn't adhere to bidi status

2007-07-17 Thread Baruch Even

Package: reportbug-ng
Version: 0.2007.07.12
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

reportbug-ng doesn't reflect the interface when the locale is a bidi
one. At least when it's Hebrew. The expected behaviour is when running
reportbug-ng as:

LANGUAGE=he_IL reportbug-ng
the interface should be reflected and all the items should be send in
their reverse order compared to their normal Left-To-Right direction.

For the Hebrew translation to be useful[1] the interface must be
reversed when the environment specifies such a locale. This is usually
done automatically by the toolkit if the layout of the ui was done in a
way the toolkit can recognize.

[1] And not just Hebrew, any other bidi language as well: Arabic, Farsi
and some others I don't know about.

We have several solutions for this:
 1. Depend on fontconfig-config, which will create /etc/fonts/conf.d/
 2. supply the link as part of the package (instead of handling it in the
maintainer scripts). This two will result in the creation of
 /etc/fonts/conf.d/.

I think #2 is the better one, as #1 will make culmus drag in some other
 fonts as dependencies.

 Your thoughts?

I agree we should go with option #2. Depending on fontconfig-config is a
task for the applications that actually use it, we just want to ensure
that if fontconfig-config is installed culmus will be known by it.

Bug#231568: websec: mantain highlighted version also when not emailing it

Hello.

I use websec with a text-only MUA (mutt), so I don't care about having
the highlighted page emailed to me. I like the idea of highlighting, so
I wrote a small patch (or, better, a small hack) that keeps the
highlighted page in ~/.websec/archive/filename.hl.html and lists the
link to this file in the EmailLink sent to the user.

I haven't tested it a lot, but it appears to work.

Hi Baruch,

The idea in #231568 looks good to me. Do you think that we could include
it in the upstream websec?

I applied the patch in my websec repository, I'll try to batch up a few
more changes and do a release in a few days.

OK. Works for me. I'm not a perl guru myself but I can handle myself

I'd be happy to try git for for package maintenance but have no problem
working with svn (or possibly another choice). Do you have any

Ah, I don't know git either, but trying it sounds good to me.

Ok. We can always change to something else if we fail to work with git
or it doesn't suite us. I won't be able to do anything at work right now
so I'll look at creating the repo in the evening, unless you beat me to
  it.

I believe that for a start we can have an upstream branch, a debian
branch and an integration branch of the two which is used for merges
from both of the branches. We should strive to have all patches to the
  code in either feature branches.

I'm not sure, I haven't watched the maintaining packages with git talk
 yet. Have you?

If you refer to the BoF of David Nusinow, than I've been in it but it
had little information relevant to us. It discussed the case of X where
upstream maintains the package in git as well. Though being upstream I
can move to git as well :-)

The above idea is taken from the BoF/talk by Manoj and Martin Krafft.
Though I have to admit that the actual takl was rather fluffy IMO and
didn't go too much into how things are maintained and showing how to
handle different cases.

Cheers,
Baruch

Bug#430151: cdebconf: multiple select is not right aligned in Hebrew

2007-06-22 Thread Baruch Even
Package: cdebconf
Version: 0.116
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

As reported in #429351 the multiple selection in tasksel is not right
aligned in Hebrew. That bug was reassigned to newt since newt is the
core of the issue. This bug is to add a patch that needs to be applied
to cdebconf after the above patch is applied to newt.

Bug#429351: Hebrew problem in task selection during install

2007-06-17 Thread Baruch Even

Package: debian-installer

Version: 20070308

Severity: normal

X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In the task selection the radio buttons are on the left of the Hebrew
text, but they should be on the right. The text should also be right
aligned rather than left aligned.

Attached are screenshots of the Hebrew and English screens.

Bug#422676: kvm 28?

Roland Dreier wrote:
Any chance of getting a new version of kvm uploaded soon? kvm 28 is out
already, so the kvm 18 that's in the archive is 10 releases out of
date. And kvm 18 won't work with the kvm module that's in any kernel
(it's too new for 2.6.21 and too old for 2.6.22).

Yes. I plan to get some time in DebConf to fix this whole mess of a package.

Bug#428067: New upstream version 0.10.8

2007-06-08 Thread Baruch Even

Package: fribidi
Version: 0.10.7-1

A new upstream version is available and should be packaged. The effect
on pyfribidi should also be studied, maybe we only need a rebuild or not
even that.

Bug#423717: Doesn't ignore spaces

2007-05-13 Thread Baruch Even
Package: reportbug-ng
Version: 0.2007.05.02
Severity: minor

When searching for a bug report on a package I had a space before and
after the package name and reportbug-ng didn't find any bug reports,
removing the spaces and reportbug-ng found bug reports for the package.

IMO you should remove spaces at the start and end of the string, you
probably need to remove any space-like character such as linefeeds and such.

Bug#423718: Please version conflict ivritex to = 1.1.1-5

2007-05-13 Thread Baruch Even
Package: texlive-latex-base

Severity: normal

texlive-latex-base currently conflicts with ivritex (for good reasons),
but I'd like to work on ivritex and part of it is testing it alongside
texlive. For this I need you to convert your conflicts to a versioned
conflict with a version of ivritex = 1.1.1-5

Bug#421416: [Debian-hebrew-package] Bug#421416: culmus: Please provide TrueType versions also

2007-04-28 Thread Baruch Even
* Tommi Vainikainen [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070428 22:01]:
 Package: culmus
 Version: 0.101-6
 Severity: wishlist

FAQ in culmus upstream homepage tells that people wanting TrueType
versions of culmus fonts should convert those with FontForge
(previously pfaedit). It would be nice if there would be Debian
package providing these fonts converted to TrueType.

For what purpose do you need the truetype fonts?

Converting Postscript to Truetype isn't really trivial as far as I know,
there are various tables that need to be made for truetype which are not
easily created from postscript font data.

Bug#418430: [Debian-hebrew-common] Re: [Debian-hebrew-package] Bug#418430: mixed hebrew/english spell checking is needed

2007-04-20 Thread Baruch Even
* Diego Iastrubni [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070421 03:41]:
 baruch,

I do beleave you are right. really this is a problem in kde, and not hspell.
but hey, this is also a problem in firefox. and then emacs, and vim, and what
 else...

with the hack i propose: we fix all those programs, without any side effect.
 i
am currently using firefox and here i see that both hebrew and english are
spelled. if i was not lazy, and i used multispell, i assume i could also use
spanish as a 3rd fallback. go do this from mozilla.

According to Kobi this is a fix that will only work for kde3 and will
not work after that.

And there is a side effect, we put a hack into the hspell package which
only works for Hebrew based spell checking, a pretty ugly hack. In
addition, the alternatives system in Debian is supposed to be used for
cases when there are several cooperating packages that all provide the
same functionality and want/need to use the same executable name, f.ex.
java. The proposed use here seems to me to be against the policy.

Cheers,
Baruch
