any plan here?

The ITA owner is still Fabio. I just corrected the title that was
missing some words.
When there is already an ITA you should not orphan the package as it is
Fabio's responsibility now.

Fabio, if you do not have the time to fulfill your ITA, please reset the
status to orphaned instead of RFA.

Bug#761637: Fixed package

package into testing, Niels Thykier agreed that #761637 looks grave
enough to justify including a fix into Jessie, see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=777176

As I do not have upload privileges in debian, I can't upload the fixed
package myself. Could you check the fixed package and upload to
unstable? I'll then file the unblock request with the release team.
If you are unable to upload the package atm, I'll start searching for a

Plone developers explicitly suggests the use of the Unified Installer for
Linux and they consider it their (only) supported deployment platform.

For this reason, together with the complexity of the distribution of the
last versions of Plone, shipped as several python eggs with strict
versioned dependencies, led to the request of removal from unstable of the
Plone package.

As suggested by upstream, the recommended tool for installing Plone on a
Debian system is the Unified Installer, which is downloadable from

Bug#548942: zabbix: Please add SQLite support

I confirm that adding support for sqlite is a good thing (tm). I have to
admit that we (as the zabbix Debian maintainers) don't have enough time to
really do more than bug fixing on this package, though.

I still use zabbix on my production systems, so I'm interested in keeping
it in good shape, but I don't know when I'll be able to find the time to
add support for sqlite-based proxy and server packages.

Patches are welcome. :)

It would be great if you could offer a zabbix-proxy-sqlite package.
I'm maintaining three proxies here and need to set up and maintain
a full-blown MySQL or PostgreSQL database. As the proxy is just storing
data for the few seconds (normally) until the data is delivered to the
Zabbix server it wouldn't need much space.

It might even be logical to create a zabbix-server-sqlite package.
Although I must admit that even with only few systems the database
becomes pretty large quickly. And I don't believe that SQLite would be
doing well with several 100 MB of data.

This occurs on a XEN based virtual private server at a commercial hosting

Jan 7 04:54:49 xxx dovecot: Time just moved backwards by 81 seconds.
This might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill myself now.
 http://wiki.dovecot.org/TimeMovedBackwards

Are you running ntp on your server? You should, it would prevent your clock
to be moved backwards by 81 seconds all together, and would probably fix
this behaviour.

A timebomb like this renders dovecot unsuitable for use on servers as all
email clients will be unable to connect to the mail server until an
administrator discovers the problem and restarts the mail server.

To be honest, I run my mail servers under Xen, I run dovecot and I never
had such an issue. Again, I think that having the clock going backwards by
81 seconds is a problem and should be fixed, instead of considering dovecot
a time bomb.

I'm pretty sure that upstream won't fix this (as stated in the wiki page),
and I'm reluctant to add a wrapper script to simply restart dovecot in
these situations: you would never discover the real problem.

All in all, such a wrapper script is pretty easy to write if your server is
affected by clock moving too fast; we can probably provide one in the
package, as an example.

   - warn administrators that they are installing a fragile solution during
 install.

I don't think that dovecot should be considered a fragile solution.

Bug#493781: Can a package modify slapd.conf in its maintainer script?

2008-08-10 Thread Fabio Tranchitella
Hello all,

I need some help regarding #493781: the submitter reported the bug as grave
because he thinks that modifying slapd.conf to include an extra LDAP schema
from the maintainer scripts of a package (phamm-ldap in this case) is
against the Debian policy.

Considering that slapd.conf is not (anymore) a conffile, in my opinion this
behaviour is not forbidden from the Debian policy and thus the bug report
could be closed without any change to the phamm-ldap package.

Of course, having an official way from the slapd package to add new schemas
would be wonderful, but until this feature is added I think that this is
the only possibility to automatically include a new schema in slapd.conf.

Opinions?

Thanks in advance,

It is not a conffile, so this is not a problem.

This is the exact sentence which keeps me thinking that this is not an RC
bug, or maybe not a bug at all until slapd does provide a script for
handling updates.

The whole procedure *should* be done, so this is not a must. Is there
a valid reason in this particular circumstance to ignore the
 recommendation of the policy?

The package slapd doesn't provide any updater script, but without adding
the schema in slapd.conf phamm can't work so the package is unusable. What
the maintainer would like to have (I'm only sponsoring the package) is that
the user could use phamm directly after an aptitude install phamm without
having to read documentation or changing configuration files.

Do you unterstand the full implications and did you carefully weighed
your decision to alter the other packages configuration file (see quoted
part of the RFC)? Is the other packages maintainer aware of the changes
you do in his or her configuration file?

I think the slapd's maintainer should provide a way to add additional
schemas, and this is an old problem which has been discussed in the past.

Well...yes, it is a bit strange, but there is method to this madness.
Basically, my DNS is pulled out of my LDAP tree, and thus requires a top
level element for each TLD. I could have achieved this by using multiple
trees, but I elected to go with a single-tree solution. This requires a
root entry, so I went with the same as the implicit root used in DNS,
 namely '.' as in 'debian.org.'

I think this is the problem: phpldapadmin doesn't like too much strange
values for the attributes used in the dn (eg. we had problems with commas
in the past).

I'll check if I can provide a patch to solve the issue.

Bug#376146: a shame

2008-06-30 Thread Fabio Tranchitella
Hi Jon,

That's a shame. I (a user) would much prefer the ubuntu approach, which
might not be as good as the ideal situation you describe, but is actually
feasible in the next release, whilst there's no evidence anyone will ever
put together the ideal solution. Would you reconsider for Lenny?

I don't think we'll switch to the snakeoil certificate for dovecot anytime
soon: the idea of installing a network daemon with a predictable SSL
certificate is not only suboptimal, but it should be avoided, IMHO.

Writing a generic tool to handle certificates on debian machines is my TODO
list, but it will miss Lenny, of course.

soon; we are still not sure about uploading it to unstable and try to get
it into lenny, though.

Looks to me like you want to reassign this to gcc, unless your build system
 somehow fiddles with gcc internals.

As suggested (see the quoted answer from debian-sparc), I'm reassigning bug

have just done it as it was intended:

Do you suggest to apply the patch to Debian, or do you plan to apply it in

I would like to say yes, but the truth is that upstream released a new

exactly the changes (it was a new upstream version, with a lot of unrelated
changes).

I know this should be solved somehow, but I simply didn't have time to
check all the changes between the two upstream releases.

In fact, dovecot should at least start with the old setting: this is what

did something wrong while backporting the patch.

 b) documenting such changes in the package docs,

This is a good idea, and I missed it indeed.

 c) to restart such processes if they have had a change made that could
crash an old conf file: at least that way such things will show up

Isn't dovecot restarted after the security release is installed into the

in order to package web applications for nginx, the packager needs a way
to add entries to the nginx.conf file. A method for doing that is
 including a include /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf line in nginx.conf.

While I fully agree with you, nginx doesn't support very well the situation
where you don't have files inside the conf.d directory:

Starting nginx:
2008/04/21 11:13:58 [emerg] 11300#0: glob() /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf
failed (2: No such file or directory) in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf:26
nginx.

For this reason, I'm marking this bug report as wontfix until upstream will
include a feature that allows us to use the include statement in all cases
or we find another way to support the conf.d directory.
