Bug#888656: flowcanvas: should this package be removed? (superseded by ganv)
hey all. ladish is pretty much dead. that said, you could build the project with just the backend/CLI, and leave the gtk ui behind. this satisfies cadence (claudia) needs, since it actually implements a full new frontend for ladish. if that is not an option, just remove ladish altogether and take it out as dependency from cadence. it is not a hard requirement for it to run, it will just lose some features. On 10.09.2018 22:20, Paul Brossier wrote: hi all, flowcanvas should definitely removed, and ganv adopted, since it is being used in newer tools such as Cadence (see https://github.com/falkTX/Cadence) ideally, ladish should be switched from using flowcanvas to using ganv. I started looking at that, but there is quite a few API changes between flowcanvas and ganv, so it is a bit more than a trivial search and replace. Bug#620225: GTK+ UI errors: segfaults, floating-point exceptions, pango error
Package: reportbug Version: 6.4.3 Followup-For: Bug #620225 Dear Maintainer, I have been looking at this problem and I think I might have some clues on what is causing the error. From what I could find in my searches (gdb mainly) the problem is related to the fact the reportbug is updating the UI directly from a thread. Apparently the right way to update the UI directly from a thread is to use gobject.idle_add(). From the traces I got from gdb it seems that the problem was coming from the call to label.set_text () so I modified all the calls to that to use idle_add. And everything seems to be working ok here, no crashes for me now. I hope this helps or at least could give you some clues on how to fix the problem. Bug#488753: (forw) Re: Boost bundling
Hello, *Mark/FTP Masters team*, As stated in e-mail below from Hongli Lai (passenger's mainstream), boost library has modifications specific to passenger, so we won't be able to use a generic library package. Is this case, I request that you ACCEPT this package. *Micah*, thanks for your kindly help on this issue. I've been running out of time lately and was just keeping my other packages in shape, leaving passenger behind. Best regards to you all, filipe Micah Anderson wrote: In an effort to try and determine where the situation with Passenger in Debian is stalled, I went on a small adventure to figure out where things are. What follows is the details of the current situation, as well as a helpful explanation from the Passenger folks. I intend to respond to that message when I can, but first I wanted to get the current state of things loaded up into this bug report, so others can see where things are at. First I found that Passenger/mod_rails had been uploaded to NEW[0] some four months ago by Leandro Nunes dos Santos leandronu...@safernet.org.br and Filipe Lautert fil...@debian.org. However, it had not been accepted by the FTP masters, and as such it was not part of the archive yet. Typically when there is a delay such as this in accepting the package into the archive there is some problem, either legal/licensing or technical that is keeping the package from being accepted. I contacted a member of the FTP team to ask what the hold-up was and was told the reason is because passenger has an embedded copy of boost and the FTP team has asked the maintainer at least twice about it and have received no reply. The embedded code problem is an interesting one, one that I have been involved in over the years working in on testing-security where we've been forced to track embedded code copies in Debian[1] so that we could have a chance to deal with security issues in embedded code copies. (A prominently horrible example is the xpdf code-base which was at one time embedded in more than 10 different source packages in Sarge, this was reduced in Etch significantly thanks to the xpdf library fork called poppler which packages were encouraged to link against, instead of embedding). As a result of these issues causing significant number of hours to track, update and manage, with many clever technical solutions developed to do things like use the clamav signature mechanisms to scan the entire archive, etc. Eventually the Debian project saw fit to adopt a policy[2] with specific language about embedded convenience copies of code (section 4.13). And this is where Passenger is currently stuck. I took a little bit of time the other day to try and figure out why Passenger embedded Boost and could not find much rationale online, until I found an older blog post[3] about the 1.0.2 release that contains this snippet: Fixed conflicts with system-provided Boost library Passenger makes use of the Boost C++ library. Its sources are included into the Passenger sources. But if the system already has a different Boost version installed, then the two Boost libraries would conflict with each other, and Passenger would fail to install. We’ve made sure that this doesn’t happen: now, installation will succeed even if there’s already another Boost version installed. This is a good first effort, however I believe that this solution doesn't get at the root of the problem and instead makes one of the symptoms go away instead of solving the problem. So I posted to the comments section of the blog asking for more details, and describing the issue around embedding copies of other code, and then received the following response in email (which I have obtained permission to forward here): - Forwarded message from Hongli Lai hon...@phusion.nl - Sender: Hongli Lai hongli...@gmail.com From: Hongli Lai hon...@phusion.nl Subject: Re: Boost bundling Date: Thu, 05 Mar 2009 10:06:44 +0100 To: mi...@debian.org Hi Micah, I saw your reply to my blog about making Boost a build dependency, but I'm afraid your arguments do not hold in our case: - The best argument for wanting to depend on Boost dynamically, is to make it easier to solve security problems. However, upgrading the Boost library will only partially fix security problems. That's because most Boost code live in C++ header files, which get inlined directly by the compiler into the executable. If a security flaw was found in a header then you'd have to recompile the executable that uses Boost even if Boost is a shared library. - Most people don't have Boost installed, or don't have the right version of Boost installed. By far and large, most of our users are _not_ Debian users, and installing Boost is a huge huge pain for 80% of our user base. By _not_ bundling Boost we'll alienate most of our users. I have a different software program which does not bundle Boost, and the #1 support question by users is related

Bug#488753: Can I pack this?
Opa Leandro, td bem? Can I make this package? I need it in my job. If we has it it should follow normal work flow and use gems. Why? I don't want to use 2 package management tools - only apt-get is enough for me. Bug#451873: mongrel: Mongrel fails to start because http11.so is in fact a win32 DLL
On Mon, 19 Nov 2007, David Anderson wrote: Upon investigation, both `file` and `strings` agree: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so is a win32 DLL, not an ELF library. As such, it obviously entirely fails to function on a linux system. Huh!? Whoa. for some reason upstream is shipping http11.so for windows and http11.jar into sources lib dir. But this only applies to upstrea tgz file and not for the gem file - this explain why it was not detected so far. gonna fix this in the upstream jar and then upload a new version here. Bug#446996: mongrel: should not depend on rubygems
Hi, well, acctually it depends on libgems-ruby1.8 . Do you consider this to be the same as depend on rubygems? Also, I don't know if it will be easy to remove this dependency because mongrel plugin system (libgemplugin-ruby) uses some functions of libgems-ruby1.8. I'n not sure at the moment, but AFAIK only libgemplugin-ruby call methods from libgems-ruby1.8, so maybe this dependency could be dropped from mongrel, but it is needed in libgemplugin-ruby. Otherwise, a plugin library for rubygems without rubygems support would be funny :D filipe On Wed, 17 Oct 2007, Lucas Nussbaum wrote: Package: mongrel Version: 1.0.1-1 Severity: serious Hi, From what I remember from our rubygems discussions, the conclusion was that the rubygems package was here for users to install packages, not for other packages to use it. Bug#402391: ITP: daemons -- Wrapper library to run Ruby scripts as daemons
Hello, I´m Filipe from the debian pkg-ruby-extras team, and we also have a package for daemons. I created the package around the same date that you and I haven´t noticed your ITP. One issue with daemons is that it can replace the package libdaemonize-ruby, because daemons includes daemonize.rb. So, in our package we have a stub to daemonize.rb so we can drop libdaemonize-ruby package. I´ve take a look at your package and it seems a lot like ours, so I ask you: do you mind if I take this ITP for me and upload my version of daemons? It would be great because then I can coordinate the actions with the debian pkg-ruby-extras team also. You can see my package at [1]. Regards, Filipe 1. svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-ruby-extras/packages-wip/libdaemons-ruby

Package: rhino Version: 1.6r2-3 Followup-For: Bug #409629 This bug was introduced because of the fix for bug #395525: * debian/patches/02-dont_build-toolsrc.patch: added. Don't build * toolsrc and xmlimplsrc because they use Sun classes to build. If you want * to build them, just remove the file (closes: #395525).' Rhino tries to run a class inside tools package, but this package is no more build. So, maybe those donwloaded classes should be shipped whith rhino diff file then it can be compiled without downloads. The source is downloaded from [1], the article in [2] and the source files doesn't says anything about license, so the license that is aplied to the source is [3] (berkeley). Bug#405555: libruby1.8 should replaces/provides/conflicts with libdevel-logger-ruby1.8
On Fri, 12 Jan 2007, Steve Langasek wrote: Well, it seems that the old logger was not part of the same source as ruby. I'm not sure if the conflicts should go to ruby unless the new ruby also has devel/logger.rb or application.rb. This doesn't seem to be the case though. Rather than a file conflict, this is a conflict of functionality; a target use for the proposed Breaks dpkg field. Yes, when breaks be out rails can use it. I think I'll just add the needed conflicts for Etch and remove it in the next upload after Etch is released. Seems like that may be the path of least resistance. While direct upgrades from sarge to lenny won't be supported, it would be more accurate to just leave the Conflicts: in (or change it to Breaks:) because the problem won't have disappeared, it'll just be less likely to be encountered. (Well, maybe ruby1.8 will be deprecated by lenny, I guess that's one possibility. :) Matz said ruby 1.9.1 will be out by Christmas 07 let's hope he can meet that deadline and lenny will have ruby1.9 :D filipe lautert filipe { AT } icewall.org Linux User#279798 Jabber [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. So, libruby1.8 should replace/provide/conflict it, as it does with others packages that were bundled in libruby1.8. /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/logger.rb was already provided by libruby1.8 in sarge. Why does the libruby1.8 in etch handle /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/devel/logger.rb any differently than libruby1.8 in sarge did? Yes, but the functionality provided by libdevel-logger-ruby is the same that libruby1.8 provides. That's fine, but doesn't explain why a conflict is needed. *libruby1.8* seems to coexist with libdevel-logger-ruby1.8 without any problems at all; there are no conflicting file paths, and no problems I can see that result from having two logger.rb files in the ruby include path, given that they should be functionally equivalent. Well, okay. But this package isn't in etch, so if there is a bug in it, it cannot be solved. And libruby1.8 replaces/provides/conflicts with all small libraries that were part of it when it was split in ruby 1.6. So, I thought it was the right place to add one more conflict, to keep the pattern and not to spread it throught other packages. If libruby1.8 already provides this functionality, then it should remove the old (and wrong) one. Should doesn't really explain why you marked this bug as critical. I'm trying to understand what's actually broken here. Maybe was a misunderstanding of mine about what critical is, but I understood that it makes unrelated software on the system break, (rails). But now that you reasign it to rails, thats ok to be serious :D Also, if this packages remains in upgrades to etch, some rails applications do not work. Why? Because it has an file called application.rb, that gets in the way of rails application.rb. Stupid classload issues. Ok, but *that* is an incompatibility between rails and libdevel-logger-ruby1.8, it has nothing to do with libruby1.8 itself. Since this is the only real problem I see, I'm reassigning this bug report to rails; if you can explain how the lack of a conflict breaks ruby as a whole, we can clone this bug back to ruby1.8 as well. AFAIK, it breaks only rails. But it is a trash that will be left behind when people upgrade from sarge to debian - and for me, this is a bug. I don't want a package from sarge that provides the same functionality libruby1.8 provides in my etch machine. Yes, but the functionality provided by libdevel-logger-ruby is the same that libruby1.8 provides. If you check http://raa.ruby-lang.org/project/devel-logger/, it says: devel-logger is bundled together with ruby distribution after ruby/1.8. This package is for ruby-1.6. So, it seems that this package was wrongly migrated to ruby1.8. Then the maintainer removed the 1.8 package from etch, and in dummy package libdevel-logger-ruby, the file /usr/share/doc/libdevel-logger-ruby/README.Debian says: libdevel-logger-ruby for Debian --- Ruby Devel::Logger It was bundled in ruby1.8 as logger.rb. Bug#328115: squirrelmail: Some attachments don't show up
Hello Sáb, 2005-12-10 às 22:05 +0100, Thijs Kinkhorst escreveu: On Thu, 2005-10-06 at 10:45 +0100, Mário Filipe wrote: I'm sending a .tgz file in attachment with two files: squirrelmsg: the message, which was saved in evolution where it display ok (in other graphical email clients there are no complaints either and pine also works ok) squirreldetails: which is a copy of View Message Details from squirrelmail I've checked this out. The message displays just fine with me in SquirrelMail (including the version you're using). What might be the problem here, is that while this message is multipart, it doesn't have 'real' attachments; it has a big image that is referenced from within the mail itself (cid: url). That means that if you view the HTML version, the mail looks perfectly fine, and if you don't view the HTML version, you get an empty mail because the mail doesn't provide text content. I see. If you set SquirrelMail (under display preferences) to show the HTML version by default, you'll see the mail just fine. Right! Hence, I don't regard this as a SquirrelMail bug. If you do, please tell me what behaviour you would expect from SquirrelMail that you're not currently seeing now. Right, in this case it is not a bug, but anything that I would suggest would become a feature request! The only thing that springs to my mind would be the possibility, while viewing the message, to choose another displayable part, so that instead of going and changing the options just so that it can be possible to see a message, there would be the possibilty of seeing the other parts right there on the interface. Of course, that if one the other parts is something non browser displayable (like .tar.gz file or something like that) then the option shouldn't exist! I search the google and I found on this page [http://www.sleepdeprived.org/] a patch for fileutils dircolors to prevent tcsh and possibly other shells from bombing or complaining on startup due to the color code for doors echo $LS_COLORS no=00:fi=00:di=01;34:ln=01;36:pi=40;33:so=01;35:do=01;35:bd=40;33;01:cd=40;33;01:or=40;31;01:su=37;41:sg=30;43:tw=30;42:ow=34;42:st=37;44:ex=01;32:*.tar=01;31:*.tgz=01;31:*.arj=01;31:*.taz=01;31:*.lzh=01;31:*.zip=01;31:*.z=01;31:*.Z=01;31:*.gz=01;31:*.bz2=01;31:*.deb=01;31:*.rpm=01;31:*.jar=01;31:*.jpg=01;35:*.jpeg=01;35:*.gif=01;35:*.bmp=01;35:*.pbm=01;35:*.pgm=01;35:*.ppm=01;35:*.tga=01;35:*.xbm=01;35:*.xpm=01;35:*.tif=01;35:*.tiff=01;35:*.png=01;35:*.mov=01;35:*.mpg=01;35:*.mpeg=01;35:*.avi=01;35:*.fli=01;35:*.gl=01;35:*.dl=01;35:*.xcf=01;35:*.xwd=01;35:*.flac=01;35:*.mp3=01;35:*.mpc=01;35:*.ogg=01;35:*.wav=01;35: I try to unset LS_COLORS and tcsh seems to work Sorry for the grave bug report. I'll try to talk with jimmac and other about this. I can't see a reason to not change the license and made this realy free. Bug#320035: squid 2.4.6-2woody10 also crashes with 'signal 6' and restarts repeatedly
We now see this with 2.4.6-2woody10 on a two machine peer setup (we did not see it with 2.4.6-2woody9 though). Both parent squid processes die just about the same time (aprox. 5 sec. difference). The behaviour and syslog messages are exactly as described earlier. We're not sure if this is the same bug, but that seems to be the case. Yours, Filipe -- Filipe R.
