Scanimage fails starting the scan, too. The result of "scanimage -d

"scanimage: sane_start: Operation not supported".

Bug#910764: openjfx: segmentation fault in GtkNativeMainLoopThread

2018-11-30 Thread Hans Georg Colle
Hello Markus,
could you run your application using xorg instead of the xwayland
server (i. e. choose "Gnome unter Xorg" in the gdm3 greeter settings
before logging in), please, and report the result?
I got the same issue running a JavaFX-UI application with xwayland,
too, and its doing fine under Gnome/Xorg. So I believe its rather a
problem concerning xwayland-server than OpenJFX.
Greetings, Georg

Hi,
looks like an upstream issue, after all. I‘ll ask for a change in
libderiv in the PSI4 forum and/or  github.com/psi4/psi4/issues.

Bug#842422: network-manager: NetworkManager fails to authenticate with old 802.11bg USB devices

2016-11-18 Thread Georg Colle
Hi, got quite the same issues using network-manager 1.4.2-2,
network-manager-gnome 1.4.2-1, and wpasupplicant 2.5-2+v2.4-3+b1 trying to
connect dongles AVM FRITZ!Wlan N, D-Link DWA-160 B2, and ASUS USB-N53 to
the acces-points of routers Netgear DGND3800b and FRITZ!Box 7490.

Using networking.service together with appropriate /etc/network/interfaces
and wpa_supplicant could be useful as a workaround. At least this worked
for me in 2012 when I bought those dongles.

Please provide a povray-version for x86-64, too. It is true that the

but I would prefer a Debian package to manage with apt and dpkg.

Bug#675763: gnome-settings-daemon: gnome-setting-daemon segfaults in libmouse.so

2012-06-16 Thread Georg Colle
Hi,

here's some more information: After deleting the gnome-related
config-files in my home directory, .config, .cache, gconf, and gnome2,
and restarting the gdm3-service, the Gnome3-system worked as I should
expect: The missing battery symbol appeared again, I could set the
screen brightness and configure the touchpad. But this lasted only for
one session. After rebooting all the bad issues I described earlier were
present again.

This means, gnome-settings-daemon is already running, and it just exits.
So the debug log doesn't show anything interesting.

As just killing gnome-settings-daemon in a running session is probably a
bit tricky, you can either start a non-GNOME session, where
gnome-settings-daemon is not started, or you set ulimit -c unlimited
[1]. This way gnome-settings-daemon should dump a core file when it
 segfaults.

You can then get the backtrace by running
 gdb --core /path/to/core /usr/bin/gnome-settings-daemon

[1] A way to set ulimit before g-s-d is started, is to edit
 /etc/security/limits.conf and add
 * soft core unlimited

Bug#663100: Acknowledgement (bluefish: Bluefish 2.2.2 does not save thumbnail images)

Hello!

Testing today wether Bluefish 2.2.2 created and saved thumbnails on a
i386-machine with a Linux 3.2.0-2-686-pae kernel, I found the same issue
as with the amd-64 os.

* What led up to the situation?

Clicking on the „Mehrere Vorschauen ...“- icon („Several previews ...“),
activating one of the radio buttons for the handling mode and choosing
three images in the upcoming dialog box

* What was the outcome of this action?

The program made correct code pointing to the thumbnails, but there was
none in the location pointed to.

* What outcome did you expect instead?

Thumbnails being in the location the code „img src=““ … / points
to.

Greetings,

Georg

Bug#419900: Does not compile anymore form kernel 2.6.20

2007-06-01 Thread Georg Colle
Hi everybody,

just failed to compile the module on a amd64 machine using kernel
2.6.21-1-amd64. The contents of the log file are equivalent.

The compiler ist missing the header file linux/config.h specified in the
include file #include linux/config.h of source file wlan.c. But it
does not exist! Files like
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.21-1-amd64/include/linux/config.h or
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.21-1/include/linux/config.h
are missing even though the headers are installed.

Is it a fault of the new kernel headers or should the acx100 module be
updated?

Greetings
Georg

Bug#412123: amaya: Amaya for x86-64 does not render .png and .bmp images

2007-02-23 Thread Georg Colle
Package: amaya
Version: 9.53~dfsg.0-1
Severity: important

You can guess the shape of the image by moving the cursor around it. The shape
(about 128x128 pixels) does
not correspond to the real image size. When showing .png images there are
libpng error: Invalid image width
in the standard error output.
Additionally bigger .jpg images (=1792x1184 pixels; ca. 560kB) are distorted
at their upper edge. Only .gif
images are rendered correctly.
Is the error due to different handling of type casts by x86 and x86-64 codes,
respectively?

Bug#390270: amaya: Amaya corrupts files when saving

2006-09-30 Thread Georg Colle
Package: amaya
Version: 9.51-2.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

In the doctype tag 'PUBLIC xyz \n ' is inserted (xyz means arbitrary
charcters and \n
stands for the line feed charcter). At the end of the document, after a line
containing
'', the html-tag and the whole part of the document included within it is
repeated.

I guess that the driver module could not be assigned correctly to the

I have no idea what this issue is about, but it looks like a kernel issue.
I hope the kernel package maintainers can help you out.

As I found out trying to install the i386 daily-build-image (loaded
down on April 17 at 10:11pm), there is a working sk98lin module loading
  automatically.
Perhaps it is worth while taking its source code and compiling it in an
  amd64 environment?

Not really as amd64 and i386 kernels are compiled from the same source.

Can you please provide the output of 'cat /proc/version/' after booting
the installer and switching to VT2? If possible both for the i386
installation CD and the amd64 one.

Here we go

{1} cat /proc/version (i386; sk98lin working)
Linux version 2.6.16-1-486 (Debian 2.6.16-4) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version
4.0.3 (Debian 4.0.3-1)) #1 Tue Mar 28 15:35:19 UTC 2006

{2} cat /proc/version (i386 after installation reboot; sk98lin no longer
working)
Linux version 2.6.15-1-686 (Debian 2.6.15-8) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version
4.0.3 20060212 (prerelease) (Debian 4.0.2-9)) #2 Mon Mar 6 15:27:08 UTC 2006

{3} cat /proc/version (amd64; sk98lin not working)
Linux version 2.6.15-1-amd64-generic (Debian 2.6.15-7) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc
version 4.0.3 20060212 (prerelease) (Debian 4.0.2-9)) #2 Thu Feb 23 04:51:53
UTC 2006

Changing to kernel version 2.6.16 could do.

Greetings Georg.

The LAN Driver Module sk98lin needed for the Marvell Technology Group Ltd.
88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 19) in chipset Intel 915G
could not be inserted.
This chipset is wide-spread with Intel P4 machines and there are working
versions of sk98lin delivered with modified debian kernels. See, e.
g., //kanotix.com or //debian.tu-bs.de/project/kanotix/kernel/ . I believe
that it would increase the acceptance of Debian linux very much if they could
provide for working lan drivers for 915G.

Comments/Problems:

The LAN Driver Module sk98lin needed for the Marvell Technology Group Ltd.
88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 19) in chipset Intel 915G
could not be inserted.
This chipset is widely spread with Intel P4 machines and there are working
versions of sk98lin delivered with modified debian kernels. See, e.
g., //kanotix.com or //debian.tu-bs.de/project/kanotix/kernel/ . I believe
that it would increase the acceptance of Debian linux very much if it would
be shipped with working lan drivers for 915G.

Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 19) in chipset Intel
  915G could not be inserted.

What do you exactly mean by could not be inserted. Don't you mean
 was not inserted automatically?

I meant to say: could not be inserted. First a dialog box opened telling me
(I'm trying to put the German text in English): No network card found, but a
firewire-device. Do you want to use firewire-ethernet? - Yes / No. On both
answers a second dialog box opened showing a list of available net drivers,
among others the sk98lin. Choosing it by hitting return had no effect using
the Testing net install versions. The Sarge version returned that the module
could not be inserted.

What happens if you switch to VT2 when the No network card detected
screen appears and run modprobe sk98lin from
there...then switch back to VT1 and retry the network detection step?

With modprobe -v sk98lin I did not get a feed-back. lsmod showed the name of
sk98lin, but in /proc/net/sk98lin/ there was nothing; not the expected
eth0. Switching back to the first console: Same as before.

greetings,
Georg
