Bug#1018700: same issue, resolved with upgrade to version 1:115.6.0-1~deb12u1

2023-12-27 Thread Jaap Eldering

A bit late, but I wanted to say that I had the same issue after upgrading one
of my systems to Bookworm, but not on other two systems which are set up fairly
similarly, at least one of which I've been upgrading since Woody. Also, on this
system where the email folders wouldn't show, the issue was resolved by
upgrading to the latest version 1:115.6.0-1~deb12u1, without any other changes
made.

Bug#981597: plasma-desktop: Also see this problem on system upgraded from (pre-)Stretch

2021-02-18 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:5.17.5-3
Followup-For: Bug #981597

Dear Maintainer,

I'd like to confirm that I'm seeing the same upgrade problems on my system.
This system has also been upgraded through Stretch -> Buster -> Bullseye (and
actually even from way before).

Following this thread, I've already removed libgcc-8-dev:amd64 (8.4.0-7).
In my case that did not trigger uninstalling a whole bunch of KDE packages,
just this from /var/log/apt/history.log:

===
Start-Date: 2021-02-18  23:25:21
Commandline: apt-get remove libgcc-8-dev
Remove: gcc-8-multilib:amd64 (8.4.0-7), gcc-8:amd64 (8.4.0-7),
libgfortran-8-dev:amd64 (8.4.0-7), libstdc++-8-dev:amd64 (8.4.0-7), gfortran>
End-Date: 2021-02-18  23:25:25

Start-Date: 2021-02-18  23:26:22
Commandline: apt-get install libc++-dev
Install: libc++1-11:amd64 (1:11.0.1-2, automatic), libc++-11-dev:amd64
(1:11.0.1-2, automatic), libc++abi1-11:amd64 (1:11.0.1-2, automatic)
Upgrade: libc++-dev:amd64 (1:9.0-49.1, 1:11.0-51+nmu4)
Remove: libc++abi1-9:amd64 (1:9.0.1-15+b1), libc++-9-dev:amd64 (1:9.0.1-15+b1),
libc++1-9:amd64 (1:9.0.1-15+b1)
End-Date: 2021-02-18  23:26:26
===

However, my system still cannot find an apt dist-upgrade path. Let me know
if there's anything I can do to help debug this.

Best,
Jaap

Bug#813324: konqueror: Does not reload when HTTP redirected to same page.

2016-01-31 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.14.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Konqueror does not follow/load/show a HTTP redirect to the exact same URL.
The attached minimal example shows the erroneous behaviour:

1. Open the URL 'test-konq-post-redirect-self.php?id=1'
2. Use the submit button to POST to the same page. This creates a temp file
   (simplified example of e.g. updating a database) and then redirects to
   the same location to prevent accidental re-POSTing.
3. Observe that the page displays "not posted".
4. Reload the page and it now shows "posted". Thus, the post was made, but
   the page contents only updated on a reload, not immediately.

At least iceweasel gives the expected behaviour to display "posted" already
at point 3.

Bug#808989: icedove doesn't properly connect to IMAPS server after upgrade to 38.

2015-12-25 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: icedove
Version: 38.4.0-1~deb8u1
Severity: normal

Since the security upgrade to icedove 38.4 (this machine hasn't been on for 6
months), I cannot login to a particular IMAP server (imap.xel.nl:993) via
SSL/TLS
anymore. I used to before and I can still login to another IMAP/SSL account
(mail.a-eskwadraat.nl:993), and I also login to imap.xel.nl:993 from another
machine of mine, running Debian Jessie amd64 with icedove 38.4.0-1~deb8u1 too.

When I downgrade to icedove 34.0~b1-2 or 36.0~b1-2 things work again, but
reverting
to current it fails again, so it does not seem to be a account/configuration
issue.

Also, I tried setting security.ssl3.*dhe* to false as suggested in bug report
#787505, but that didn't help. Note that

  openssl s_client -connect imap.xel.nl:993

didn't report any (too short) DH keys.

Finally, I tried starting icedove with -safe-mode to no avail.

Attached a debug log of running

Bug#803305: php5: timezone "incorrectly" guessed from system

2015-10-28 Thread Jaap Eldering
Source: php5
Severity: normal

I ran into a somewhat special-case bug with the Debian patch that guesses the
timezone from the system default.

The system timezone is set to "Europe/London" in /etc/timezone, while php.ini
date.timezone is unset. In this case (after the recent change from DST to normal
time) the PHP function date_default_timezone_get() reports the timezone as UTC.

Although this is equivalent outside daylight saving time, it is not during DST,
which leads to wrong conversions between date/time strings and Unix timestamps.

I would suggest that the timezone be directly read from /etc/timezone before
using php_localtime_r(), which I assume has to infer the timezone from an
offset from UTC only.

Best regards,
Jaap

Bug#781659: konsole: Console cursor loses focus after switching between windows

2015-04-01 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: konsole
Version: 4:4.14.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Since upgrading to Jessie, the following problem frequently (every few
minutes
or so, when working normally) appears: after switching between windows
and/or
virtual desktops, when I switch back to a Konsole window, the window has
focus,
but the cursor in the terminal is "hollow" and does not respond to keyboard
input. Only after clicking on the window with the mouse, the cursor
changes back
to filled and responds to keyboard again.

This happens randomly when switching windows, but I can consistently
reproduce
it as follows: press to activate the menu in a konsole window,
then switch
away and back to the konsole window. Now the menu isn't active anymore,
but the
cursor is hollow and doesn't respond.

This has started happening to me after upgrading to Jessie. I run plain
openbox
as window manager, but the same problem also appears when I use Xfce or
failsafe-xterm. Furthermore, I have also tried crossgrading to amd64, but
reverted this because it didn't work; I do still have some libraries
installed
with both i386 and amd64 versions, including libc6 and libstdc++6 from the
dependencies of konsole.

See also the bugreport here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270144
that was wrongly reported against Kwin.

Please let me know if there is any other useful information I can provide.

Best,
Jaap

Bug#754490: pm-utils: No logs and no scripts executed on hibernate/thaw

2014-07-11 Thread Jaap Eldering
I now noticed my mistake/confusion: I started the suspend and hibernate
with s2ram and s2disk respectively. It seems that the former calls
pm-suspend, while the latter does _not_ call pm-hibernate. If I use
pm-hibernate, then everything works as expected.

Is this different behaviour documented, and/or could it be changed?

Best,
Jaap

Bug#754490: pm-utils: No logs and no scripts executed on hibernate/thaw

2014-07-11 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: pm-utils
Version: 1.4.1-9
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

On my Asus UX31A laptop, I can hibernate and thaw fine, but the corresponding
pm-utils scripts don't seem to get executed, nor logs written to
/var/log/pm-suspend.log. When I suspend and resume, logs do get written.
Specifically, I appended to /etc/pm/sleep.d/00_powersavings the line

( echo "$0" "$@" ; date ; id ; ls -lR /sys/class/leds ) >>
/tmp/debug-kbd-leds.txt

but no file /tmp/debug-kbd-leds.txt is created after thawing.

I'd be happy to perform any further debugging actions, but I currently
don't quite know where to start since exactly the log files are missing
and I don't get any other errors, nor can I find any in other logs.

Best,
Jaap

Bug#706495: clang++ fails to find standard header files

2013-04-30 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: clang
Version: 1:3.0-6.2
Severity: normal

Hi,

When trying to compile a C++ file with libboost headers included using
clang++, I got the following error:

$ clang++ test-clang-boost.cpp
In file included from test-clang-boost.cpp:1:
In file included from /usr/include/boost/static_assert.hpp:17:

The file I tried to compile contains:

== test-clang-boost.cpp ===
#include

int main()
{
return 0;
}
===

Initially, I had the libc-dev-amd64 package installed (I'm running a
standard Debian amd64 kernel on i386 userland). In that case I got the
errors below:

$ clang++ test-clang-boost.cpp
In file included from test-clang-boost.cpp:1:
In file included from /usr/include/boost/static_assert.hpp:17:
In file included from /usr/include/boost/config.hpp:40:

Since I have a feeling this might be related to bug #643959, here's the
same debug output as requested for there:

Bug#700420: bash: cd wrong error message in POSIX mode

2013-02-12 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: bash
Version: 4.1-3
Severity: minor

Hi,

I have a bit unusual context: as root create

# mkdir -p /foo/bar/baz

and set

# chmod go= /foo

then

# cd /foo/bar && su $user -c '/bin/bash --posix'

Now, as $user, who does not have permissions on /foo, but does on the current
directory /foo/bar and subdir baz, I run (and get the error):

$ cd baz
bash: cd: baz: Not a directory

Note that I _do_ expect an error message, but _not this one_. Instead e.g. dash
reports:

$ cd baz
cd: 1: can't cd to baz

It's maybe worth pointing out that this behaviour is only triggered when bash
runs in POSIX mode, and thus defaults to using logical pathname resolution
(option -L) as in the POSIX spec[1]. In non-POSIX mode, the 'cd baz' just
works (which initially seemed to me to be a discrepancy in either bash or
dash).

Best,
Jaap

Bug#644085: me-tv: Mouse movement displays menu bars, disturbs view

2011-10-02 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: me-tv
Version: 1.3.1-1
Severity: wishlist

In fullscreen mode, any small mouse movement immediately invokes display of
top and bottom menu bars and thereby changes the fullscreen display size.
In my case, this triggers now and then, even if I do not touch my mouse,
which is pretty annoying when watching TV.

It would be nice if this trigger would be less sensitive or trigger only
when the mouse is moved to the top or bottom of the screen.

Best regards,
Jaap Eldering

Bug#433655: xfig bug "export as pspdftex duplicates text" added info

2010-08-20 Thread Jaap Eldering
Hi,

As additional info: the text is not duplicated in the output when
setting the 'hidden' flag, next to the 'special' flag. This serves as
a workaround, but according to 'man xfig':

The Hidden attribute is used for figures that will be used with LaTeX
and is applicable only to the display of the document in xfig.

So it should not be necessary for removing duplicate text output, and
it would be nice if one could view the LaTeX text in xfig while
rendering it correctly.

Best,
Jaap

attached source with

ghc -Wall -O -static -optl-static -o test test.hs

generates a long list of errors like:

/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.4.5/../../../../lib/libffi.a(closures.o): In
function `init_mparams':

'ghc -v3' shows that linking is not done against libpthread. Also adding
'-optl-lpthread' doesn't help as it is placed before all other libraries.
Manually copying the linker command and adding -lpthread at the end does
work.

Best,
Jaap

Bug#488274: ANSI C++ compiler error in yylex.cc

2010-08-12 Thread Jaap Eldering
Hi,

I'd like to add to this bugreport that this redundant isatty()
declaration moreover generates a compiler error when compiling with
g++ -ansi -pedantic:

yylex.cc: At global scope:
yylex.cc:1654: error: declaration of ‘int isatty(int)’ throws different
exceptions
/usr/include/unistd.h:795: error: from previous declaration ‘int isatty(int)

so please consider applying the patch.

Bug#591587: bugfix in init script

2010-08-04 Thread Jaap Eldering
Attached patch fixes a bug by creating a missing pidfile.

Also, I realized that this is for the Lenny version, while the version
in squeeze/sid have a -daemon option, thus do not require these
workarounds. I'd be glad to modify and test the scripts for that.

Bug#591587: ptunnel: Add daemon init scripts

2010-08-03 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: ptunnel
Version: 0.71-2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hello,

Please consider adding an init script to automatically start the ptunnel
daemon. Attached files are slightly modified from the ddclient init scripts.
They might need some polishing, but seem to work on Lenny. Note that I added
the option '--background' to start-stop-daemon, as ptunnel in Lenny doesn't
support the '-daemon' option yet.

Jaap Eldering

On my laptop, Debian Lenny amd64:

This is perl, v5.10.0 built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi

On the Redhat system (Scientific Linux SL release 5.5 (Boron)):

This is perl, v5.8.8 built for x86_64-linux-thread-multi

But I reported and reproduced this bug on my desktop (running Debian
testing, i386), so it's not simply an older/newer perl version issue,
is it?

Jaap

Hi,

Yes, I tested it and it works fine now.

Strangely, I was not able to reproduce the buggy behaviour with the
original fig2eps version on my laptop (running Debian Lenny amd64)
that I'm currently working on. I could still reproduce it on the
system (running Redhat EL 5) on which I discovered the bug.

Bug#584776: fig2ps: errors due to strange characters with --forcespecial option

2010-06-06 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: fig2ps
Version: 1.5-1
Severity: normal

The attached Xfig file generates an error when trying to convert it to
anything with one of the fig2* programs, e.g. using

  fig2eps --forcespecial test.fig

The generated tex file shows ^A control characters, which latex complains
about:

File: job-001.fig2dev.ps Graphic file (type eps)

! Text line contains an invalid character.
l.24 ...fault}{\color[rgb]{0,0,0}$M_+^\epsilon$^^A
  4 0 0 50 -1 0 12 0. 6 ...
A funny symbol that I can't read has just been input.
Continue, and I'll forget that it ever happened.

When the "special" flags are set in the document itself, no error occurs.

Best,
Jaap

Bug#569728: libmagic-dev: comparing magic_file() result string fails

2010-02-13 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: libmagic-dev
Version: 5.04-1
Severity: normal

The following program does a magic_file() call and then strncmp compares
the result. When the result string is copied, this works fine, but when
the resulting 'const char*' is used directly, the strncmp gives incorrect
results.

I'm not sure whether this is a bug, that some documentation is missing
on the storage persistence of the result string, or maybe I overlooked
something.

Bug#555831: konsole doesn't show shell prompt on initial X session startup

2009-11-11 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: konsole
Version: 4:4.3.1-1
Severity: important

Since about one or two weeks, I get the following behaviour: at startup
of my X session (Xfce4), the konsole window that is started doesn't display
a shell prompt and when closing the window, a KDE crash dialog is displayed.
Clicking the crash dialog away and then starting a new konsole works just
fine.

As additional note, I have a ATI Radeon HD 4200 IGP, using the radeonhd X
driver, release 1.3.0, which does not support Xvideo yet for my chipset.
Since upgrading from lenny to squeeze with this hardware, the KDE4 panel
already crashed on session startup.

Feel free to request any more detailed debugging information.

Yes, indeed. Sorry for this invalid bugreport, though I (obviously)
don't find it very clear that at that point input is requested.

2009-09-12 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: emacs22-common

The attached C++ program is indented incorrectly when being typed in.
It indents correctly when re-opening the complete file.

When I use show-paren-mode, it shows that on the second line of the
if-statement the < and > are matched, but after completing the '>=' it
does not match anymore and then a mismatch between the < and the ) is
created.

Ok, sorry for my overly quick bug report, I hadn't checked whether
nbd-server was actually running and assumed it didn't because of the
error/warning message.

Still, I think that there's something to be improved here: nbd-server
gives this warning without any other message that it has started. This
message looks pretty serious, especially since the man-page explicitly
states that a non-existent or empty config file can be specified
without problem. I'd suggest to make it clear in the warning message
that nbd-server is still started and/or update the documentation about
this message. Or maybe add a default configuration file which
nbd-server can parse and which removes this warning message?

Bug#536290: nbd-server: Unknown error reading config file

2009-07-08 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: nbd-server
Version: 1:2.9.11-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Running nbd-server results in an error that a configuration file cannot
be parsed or found:

$ nbd-server 1234 /some/file

** (process:9399): WARNING **: Could not parse config file: Could not open
config file.

$ nbd-server 1234 /some/file -C /usr/share/nbd-server/nbd-server.conf.tmpl

** (process:9401): WARNING **: Could not parse config file: Unknown error

$ nbd-server 1234 /some/file -C /non-existent

** (process:9403): WARNING **: Could not parse config file: Could not open
config file.

So neither the template config file works, nor a non-existent file as
specified in the man-page.

Best regards,
Jaap Eldering

I'm a bit confused about you saying "add Should-Start: inputlirc to
/etc/init.d/lirc". The correct order of starting is lirc, inputlirc.
That I can confirm manually: starting them in that order and my
configuration works, starting them in the reverse order and it doesn't
work.

So it seems to me that in /etc/init.d/inputlirc on the 'Should-Start:'
line 'lirc' should be added. I tried this and after a reboot it works
as it originally did.

Bug#514800: inputlirc: missing init dependency on lirc?

2009-02-10 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: inputlirc
Version: 11-2
Severity: normal

Hi Guus,

I recently upgraded my desktop to Lenny and installed the insserv
dependency based init package. I'm pretty sure that since then my remote
stopped working correctly: it did send signals, but it didn't seem to
read/use the .lircrc config file anymore. Restarting lirc and then
inputlirc solves the problem and restores the original behaviour.

So it seems that /etc/init.d/inputlirc is missing a boot-time depencency
on lirc, but I'm not completely sure that it not an error in
configuration from my side.

/etc/default/inputlirc contains:
# Options to be passed to inputlirc.
EVENTS="/dev/input/by-path/*-event-ir"
OPTIONS=

Please let me know if you need more configuration file contents.

No, the only non-comment line was 'startup=1'. I did just merge the
shorewall.dpkg-dist file, which adds an empty OPTIONS="" declaration,
but I guess that that is not the problem.

Package: shorewall
Version: 4.0.15-1

The system does not forward masqueraded connections, while this is
configured in shorewall. After restarting shorewall once, everything
does work fine.

I have the package insserv installed with dependency based booting and
it seems that shorewall depends on procps being started: adding it to
/etc/init.d/shorewall:

# Required-Start:$network $procps

solves the issue.

I have 'IP_FORWARDING=Yes' in shorewall.conf and the following entries
in /etc/sysctl.conf:

net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter=1
net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter=1
net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

Nagios-common (also version 2) depends on a webserver, but I suggest
to change it to "recommends", because the package can be used without a

Bug#409788: openssh: specifying quiet option twice does not silence completely

2007-02-05 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: openssh
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

When specifying the quiet option twice (or more), ssh will still print the
"Connection to
host closed." message (suppressed with quiet once), because the loglevel checks
in the code
use != instead of >, see attached patch, there might be more places in the code
that need
to be changed.

Jaap

Bug#407644: gnome: cannot select other icon when multiple extensions available

2007-01-20 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: gnome
Version: 2.14.3-4
Severity: normal

After iceweasel was installed over firefox, I wanted to replace the new
icon in my panel: /usr/share/pixmaps/iceweasel.png (symlinked from
firefox.png) to the old (Debian) firefox logo
/usr/share/pixmaps/iceweasel.xpm.

While selecting the icon from the launcher properties menu shows the new
icon in that menu, it didn't change the icon on the panel. creating a
symlink with a different name iceweasel-old.xpm to iceweasel.xpm and
selecting that one did work.

So it seems that the gnome panel cannot handle multiple icons with the
same name but different extension.

Bug#309754: Logout button kills other sessions

2006-07-09 Thread Jaap Eldering
Hello,

I did some bug tracking and found the problem (but no solution yet):

In xlock/logout.c in the function 'logoutUser' a few different methods
are tried to kill the programs in the user's X session. However the
last resort is to kill all user processes. Two other methods that can
be turned on (but are _not_ in the sarge version) are options
--closedown-logout and --session-logout (from configure). I tested
these, but with no effect.

A workaround might be to give a logout command manually to xlock,
which does logout the user from the X session correctly.

Regards,
Jaap

Seems to have been a temporary problem with errors on the filesystem:
quotatool couldn't locate the filesystem.

Bug#332757: tmpreaper runs out of time

2005-10-08 Thread Jaap Eldering
Package: tmpreaper

tmpreaper runs more than a minute and gives an error:

error: run time exceeded!

tmpreaper will stop itself after almost one minute with an appropriate
warning message, as attempts to keep it running long enough so that it
runs in parallel with another instance of itself may also lead to
possible vulnerabilities. Normally, tmpreaper won't need that amount of

It's not that our system is slow, but tmpreaper has to run through a
directory tree of max. 20 GB, so it would be nice to have this run time
configurable.

I ran into the same problem, but you need to have /usr/lib/libpam.so

The generated output file of gpg-key2ps does not use my (A4) paper

A dirty hack seems to be to lower the on a line containing

all into postscript programming, so I have no idea whether this is the
right method.

when running sdiff in interactive mode (with -o option), it fails in the

At this moment caff complains when the nessecary .caffrc file doesn't

It would be much easier if caff would generate it on first use: the

even sensible defaults taken.

Bug#286735: please reconsider patch

2005-04-25 Thread Jaap Eldering
This bug is mentioned as fixed by the mail diff changes patch:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=290690

However I'd like the maintainer to reconsider also applying this
patch. Filtering of output seems to me a more general method of
preventing unnessecary output than diffing with the previous
output. For example when output is not always exactly the same each
day, which happened with the (removed) utmp check reporting time to
finish or sniffer reporting: 'eth0: PACKET SNIFFER(/sbin/dhclient[2327])'
where the PID of dhclient will vary.

I tested the filter patch and it works fine for these situations for
me.

Thanks,

Jaap
