Bug#879102: linux-image-4.9.0-4-686-pae: SCSI timeouts on Dell PowerEdge 2650 with Perc RAID 3/Di (unable to boot)
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.51-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, On upgrade from Jessie to Etch, the kernel went from 3.16 (3.16.0-0.bpo.4-686-pae currently running) to 4.9 (tested 4.9.0-3-686-pae and 4.9.0-4-686-pae without more success). When booting from 4.9, the kernel goes into an endless loop, complaining about SCSI abort/timeouts and never actually reaches a usable state. Rebooting back to the older 3.16 kernel does not show the same issue. I believe there has been some kernel timeout default changes in the kernel upstream. Please help. Thanks. -- Package-specific info: ** Kernel log: boot messages should be attached ** Model information ** PCI devices: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Broadcom CMIC-WS Host Bridge (GC-LE chipset) [1166:0012] (rev 13) Control: I/O- Mem- BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- 00:04.1 Unassigned class [ff00]: Dell Remote Access Card III [1028:0008] Subsystem: Dell Remote Access Card III [1028:0008] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: serial 00:04.2 Unassigned class [ff00]: Dell Embedded Remote Access: BMC/SMIC device [1028:000d] Subsystem: Dell Embedded Remote Access: BMC/SMIC device [1028:000d] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- 00:0e.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Package: mysql-server-5.1 Version: 5.1.61-0+squeeze1 Severity: normal On a powerful server with many databases (around 15k), postinst takes ages (dozens of minutes) to complete on upgrade (security), because of the blind chown and chmod -R on /var/lib/mysql. On Mon, 2011-05-23 at 20:16 -0500, Kyle Willmon wrote: On Mon, May 23, 2011 at 01:51:59PM +0200, Jérôme Warnier wrote: There does not seem to be any development ongoing at all. It seems dead upstream. I'm considering moving to a more powerful alternative (fail2ban). I have spoken with Phil Schwartz, the upstream maintainer, in attempt to introduce some more transparency and agility in the development process. It appears that the next release of denyhosts has been held up by a few technical issues which I am hoping to help resolve. While I would not blame you for using fail2ban, I did want to inform you that denyhosts should be seeing some activity in the near future. Good to know. As for this particular bug, the current issue is simply that Dropbear does not use TCP Wrapper as OpenSSH does. This means that denyhost's current method of using /etc/hosts.deny would not work for Dropbear. I believe this is enough reason to tag this bug wontfix, but because it is an upstream bug, I will let Phil make the final call. Allright, I clearly didn't look so far. Feel free to tag it as wontfix. And thanks for caring. Thanks - Kyle Willmon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#613792: logrotate: Should allow to disable config snippets in .d
Package: logrotate Version: 3.7.8-6 Severity: wishlist On Debian, some packages providing configuration include directory allow for easily disabling. E.g.: /etc/cron.d/ - if a file has a . (dot) anywhere in the name, it is not taken into account, so adding a .old or .date something gets it disabled Other e.g.: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ - any file not ending in .list is ignored, so adding a .disabled gets it disabled. Currently, any file in /etc/logrotate.d/ is interpreted. It would be great if logrotate had a similar mechanism as described. Bug#596704: cifs: Files duplicated in directory listing
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686 Version: 2.6.26-25 Server: Nexenta Core Platform 3.0 (~OpenSolaris b134). Client: Debian Lenny (5.0.6) GNU/Linux running kernel 2.6.26-2-686 (2.6.26-25) with cifs.ko version 1.53. The mount options used are (I stripped authentication info): rw,username=userX,password=passwordX,uid=userX,gid=groupY,dir_mode=0775,file_mode=0774 The problem I notice is that on the client, files appear multiple times in directory as soon as they are more than 127 actual files in the directory (and it is reproducible at will). At 127 files, each one is shown 2x (twice), up to 128x in directories with more that a few thousands files. Their inodes are identical (as shows ls -li). Listing the directory gets slower and slower with the number of files (and duplicates) in it. On the server, everything is fine though. Shell globbing is getting the duplicates. I tried with kernel 2.6.32 (which has a newer cifs.ko) from backports.debian.org, and the problem is not present (fixed?). In the past, it was possible to download the sources for latest cifs.ko separately, and apply it to an older kernel, but it no longer seems possible (or I did not found latest sources). True. Didn't deny that. While the source package might not be as a whole, openoffice.org-thesaurus-fr is not working at all for those people. for those people. Not for all. The package is not unusable for fr_FR people. Don't misunderstand me, I see the need to register it for all of them too (that's why I actually did it already) but grave imho is a too high severity. The highest you can argue for imho is important: important a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone. compared to grave makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package. This is getting off-topic, but I used reportbug to report it and it said: 2 grave makes the package in question unusable by most or all users, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package. Bug#500382: webcalendar: Does not work with PostgreSQL 7.4

This is just a request to tighten dependencies to a specific minimal version of PostgreSQL, or at least adding something in the README. Thanks for your bug report. I do remember having tested webcalendar with PostgreSQL 7.x with database upgrade, so I take your word as true. WebCalendar does not depend directly on PostgreSQL, but through php*-pgsql, so it will be tricky to achieve this. BTW, there is something I do not understand in your setup: Versions of packages webcalendar depends on: [snip] ii php4-pgsql 6:4.4.4-8+etch6 PostgreSQL module for php4 [snip] ii php5-pgsql 5.2.0-8+etch11 PostgreSQL module for php5 According to packages.d.o [1] [2], the versions above depend on libpq4 = 8.1.4. How does it comes that you are using WebCalendar with PostgreSQL 7.4? Which version of php*-pgsql are you using? Etch ships with both PostgreSQL 7.4 and 8.1. We started running Sarge and developed in-house some other applications using PHP (4.x) and PostgreSQL (7.x at that time). Then, we upgraded to Etch, and installed WebCalendar (on Apache 1.x + PHP 4.x). And some time ago, we went to PHP5. Finally, we decided to upgrade our WebCalendar. Debian also rules because of its clean upgrade path. To answer to your question strictly speaking, as Etch ships with both versions of PG and newest clients are backward-compatible with older servers, the PHP module was built with the 8.1 client but allows to connect to 7.4. This bug occurs because the script is not safe to be run with /bin/sh being actually dash. This bug should be in fact renamed to: Initscript not compatible with dash or something similar. To fix this on your computer, change the shebang line to: #! /bin/bash -e Then, upgrade to the new version and when dpkg asks to overwrite the script with maintainer version, just accept. Debian policy is quite clear on the subject: 10.7.2 Location Any configuration files created or used by your package must reside in /etc. If there are several, consider creating a subdirectory of /etc named after your package. If your package creates or uses configuration files outside of /etc, and it is not feasible to modify the package to use /etc directly, put the files in /etc and create symbolic links to those files from the location that the package requires. See http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-config-files If I felt my /etc was full of files, I would not submit a bug against a package which has only one file in it. Bug#397690: [Pkg-qof-maintainers] Bug#397690: gnotime: GnoTime is dying silently several times a day
Le vendredi 10 novembre 2006 à 17:08 -0200, Goedson Teixeira Paixao a écrit : Em Qua, 2006-11-08 às 22:15 +0100, Jerome Warnier escreveu: Package: gnotime Version: 2.2.2-7 Severity: normal GnoTime is dying silently several times a day on my up-to-date Etch. As my brother is experiencing the same on another computer, I thought it could be a good idea to at least report this bug. I tried to start it from a terminal in case it was spitting messages out, read my .xsession-errors, but nothing... I also tried to start it under strace hoping I would find myself the problem, but there are just too many messages and I have no idea what to look for. I'm aware of the little-usefulness of this report as-is, but I'm willing to provide more information as requested. Could you please send me a core dump of such a crash? Be aware that such core dump may include data from your projects, so you may not want to have them published in the web if there's some sensitive data on them. The core dump does not show anything useful (I discussed about this with upstream, using bug-buddy, upstream bug #382835) because the debugging symbols are not set in the Debian package (and there is no -dbg package). If you could tell me how to activate the debugging symbols (I know debian packaging quite well, so it's probably enough to just tell me what to change in debian/rules and rebuild the package). But I understood something more: it happens only when my computer is idle. Understand: I work on one computer while my laptop is running gnotime, but no X activity occurs. When I work from my laptop, even if never setting the focus to gnotime, it seems to never crash. Hope it helps. Thank you. -- Jérôme Warnier FLOSS Consultant http://beeznest.net

Bug#393483: apt-proxy fails on packages with version including '~'

I suspect that the problem you're seeing might be in the mirror server or in apt-proxy's interactions with that particular server. Which mirror are you using and which protocol? The backend used is: ftp://ftp.belnet.be/debian And I can still reproduce it. So can I now. It appears that this bug is not dependent on the server, but on the protocol/scheme used. I think you can avoid the problem by using http://ftp.belnet.be/debian instead. What appears to be happening is that apt is escaping '~' to '%7e', following an old RFC that says '~' is not a safe character in URIs, and the FTP backend of apt-proxy is failing to convert this back to '~'. I'll investigate further and see if I can fix it properly. Yes, you are right; http works nicely. As this mirror also offers http, I will use this. This is still a bug (whoever it belongs to, I don't know) with FTP. Perhaps the bug title should say that (on FTP backend). Ben. -- Jérôme Warnier FLOSS Consultant http://beeznest.net
Bug#393873: libgmp3c2: should provide libgmp3
Package: libgmp3c2 Version: 2:4.2.1+dfsg-4 Severity: wishlist Package libclamav1 from Debian Volatile depends on libgmp3, which no longer exists in Etch.
