Bug#882590: libreoffice: Fails to start with "double free or corruption (fasttop)" error
Hi, On 26/11/2017 21:12, Rene Engelhard wrote: so I believe it must be some Library updated or some incompatibility introduced somewhere https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?att=3;bug=882590;filename=loffice.script;msg=5 looks very much font'ish. Special fonts installed? Any fonts updated? Hum, interesting. I had a custom ~/.fonts.conf which was a symlink to the actual configuration file in a Git repository checkout somewhere else. Removing the symlink and/or transforming the symlink into an actual hardlink or a "real" file makes Libreoffice work. However, having this file as a hardlink or a real file crashes some other applications, although they were fine with the symlink variant. I ended up removing ~/.fonts.conf in the meanwhile which seems to satisfy most applications. Thanks for the suggestion and sorry for the noise. Jonathan

Source: qtbase-opensource-src Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, the Qt4 source package provides a qt4-qtconfig package to configure various aspects of Qt4 applications. Bug#770388: apt-cache as a non-root user if a APT .list file is not readable
Hi David, thank you for your thorough answer. On Sun, Nov 23, 2014 at 03:20:26PM +0100, David Kalnischkies wrote: Hi Jonathan, On Thu, Nov 20, 2014 at 10:35:40PM +0100, Jonathan Ballet wrote: I tracked down the problem using strace and it seems that if a APT .list file is not readable by a non-root user, apt-cache (in this case) goes much, much slower: Yes, but this isn't a bug. The sources.list tells us which repositories to get data from and by extension which files on disk contain this data. If the current user can't read the sources.list files, apt will not know which files are to be used and which ones are stale. The binary cache it deploys to avoid reparsing all these files all the time will be considered invalid as it contains data from sources which (might or might not) be still in the unreadable sources.list file. The only reason we can be fast by using a binary cache is that we know that it is current – otherwise we would need to be a lot more careful while working with the data files which means we are a lot slower (as you experienced). So, this is all by design… In other words: If you want to use apt, the user you run it with needs read access to sources.list files. There is no point in forbidding read access here anyway as you /can/ force apt to consider the binary cache as valid and hence extract the data or lookup the filenames in the lists directory or or or. I understand this design decision, my use-case was more like: I created a sources.list file with the wrong permission, and my normal user couldn't read it. As such, running apt-cache without being root was much, much slower. As I usually never use apt-cache as root and that nothing reports that this file can't be read and that apt-cache is going to use this slower codepath, I thought there was a much more serious problem on my machine than just this file permission issue. In the end, I had to resort to strace to discover the real underlying problem, which is not really intuitive although 1. this situation is kind of abnormal (I understand what you said this way) and 2. the fix is really simple. Is there a way this issue could have been avoided? Best regards, Jonathan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? If you're in need of a good practical Debian packaging guide, I highly recommend Lucas Nussbaum's packaging-tutorial (which you can apt-get install, or fetch online [1]). Some Python specific packaging tips are covered on the Debian wiki [2] as well. You're also more than welcome to drop by #debian-mentors and #debian-python on OFTC if you're still struggling with packaging-related issues. I will have a look and try to propose a patch when I will time, patience, and motivation to dive into this again. Hopefully, by then, the package will be out of experimental and I would be able to install the build dependencies without spending 50 minutes to try to do so (which I gave up to.) Package: python-gi Version: 3.3.91-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, scrolling down with the mouse wheel over a Gtk.StatusIcon emits lot of GDK_SCROLL_UP events, actually much more than scroll down events. Bug#693781: twisted-doc doesn't contain the API documentation
Package: twisted-doc Version: 12.0.0-1 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, twisted-doc only provides the 'how to's and examples documentation from the Twisted repository, but it doesn't contain the actual API of this framework. As a matter of fact, the index of this documentation directly redirects to the Twisted Matrix website. In my opinion, one of the goal of installing -doc packages is to allow offline browsing of documentation. Since the API of Twisted is quite extensive and that probabl more than half of the links from the actual documentation redirect you to the API anyway, the full API documentation would be a good addition to the content of twisted-doc. In short, is is possible to provide the API documentation of Twisted as a package (either as part of twisted-doc or into another package)? Bug#666876: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Scrolling too fast *sometimes* stucks the X server
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Version: 1.5.99.901-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I'm using a Asus eeePC 701 4G which has a weird behavior since several weeks now: sometimes (not always), if I scroll too fast using the right scrolling feature of my touchpad, the displa freezes for several seconds (from 3 to 30+), where I can't do anything (the mouse cursor doesn't move anymore, the keyboard doesn't answer, etc.), then everything seems to get back as usual. Sometime, I can continue to work, as everything seems to work, but other times, I have to restart completely my X session: the cursor doesn't reply to left or right click, even the keboard seems to be unresponsive. My window manager (awesome) seems to suffer the most from this problem, since most of keyboard shortcuts don't work anymore after this problem occurs. I'm not sure if I can reproduce the problem at will, but scrolling really fast in my web browser seems to be a good way to make it crash. I replaced the Xorg.log below by the one I had with the problem in the synaptics driver. I can provide more information if needed, although I'm not sure *how* to provide such information - feel free to point me out to some documentation. -- Package-specific info: X server symlink status: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Feb 9 2008 /etc/X11/X - /usr/bin/Xorg -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2044072 Mar 5 11:21 /usr/bin/Xorg VGA-compatible devices on PCI bus: -- 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller [8086:2592] (rev 04) Xorg X server configuration file status: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 631 Feb 21 18:04 /etc/X11/xorg.conf Contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf: --- Section InputDevice Identifier synaptics Driver synaptics # Activate tap-to-click Option MaxTapTime180 Option TapButton11 #Option EmulateMidButtonTime 75 # Activate Horizontal scrolling Option HorizEdgeScroll on # Activate SHM config to modify/monitor from running X Option SHMConfig on EndSection Section ServerLayout Identifier Xandros InputDevicesynaptics EndSection Section ServerFlags Option DontVTSwitch off Option DontZap off EndSection /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d does not exist. The weird thing is that the problem only appears for specific size, usually on only one letter. And if I close all the windows of the application which show the problem (here Iceweasel and Roxterm) and open it one more time, the problem is gone or the buggy letter is a different one than previously. I'm not sure if the problem is related to this specific font. I don't use many others and I didn't see the problem on other fonts, so it might be necessary to reaffect this bug. Bug#628443: qrfcview: Bad encoding of some characters in the document outline panel
Package: qrfcview Version: 0.62-5.1 Severity: normal Tags: patch If you open for example the RFC 4287, section 4.1.1, it contains the following title: 4.1.1. The problem comes from the transformation of the document to suit the HTML renderer and some characters are HTML-encoded, but the tree model for the outline panel is filled with those encoded characters, whereas it doesn't understand HTML entities. Package: udev Followup-For: Bug #627446 I have the very same problem as this. I can't see all the messages displayed at boot time, my screen is too small, but I have at least the same errors as described above by Sergio. Hopefully, although the graphic environment couldn't start, I still had network access. Downgrading udev, libudev and libgudev to 168-2 made the problem gone. Bug#618760: python-keyring should suggest dependencies on backend keyring modules
Package: python-keyring Version: 0.5.1-1 Severity: normal Hello, tl;dr: scripts which relied in the Gnome keyring might now fail if the python-gnomekeyring module is not installed. Long story: I have a piece of code which was dependent on python-keyring and python-keyring-gnome and all was smooth: the default keyring was the Gnome one and I didn't have to do anything. Since the update to 0.5.1, I removed the obsolete package python-keyring-gnome and then, my script started to fail because it couldn't find the password I had in my keyring. The problem occurs to be that the default keyring switched to `keyring.backend.CryptedFileKeyring`, as revealed by `keyring.get_keyring()`. I first thought that I now had to configure manually the keyring system so that it will use the Gnome one, but once I configured the ~/keyringrc.cfg file, I got this error: import keyring keyring.get_keyring() keyring.backend.GnomeKeyring object at 0xb7233dec keyring.get_password('foo', 'bar') Traceback (most recent call last): File stdin, line 1, in module File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/keyring/core.py, line 30, in get_password return _keyring_backend.get_password(service_name, username) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/keyring/backend.py, line 140, in get_password except gnomekeyring.NoMatchError: NameError: global name 'gnomekeyring' is not defined I thought that there was a bug in python-keyring, but it occurs that I was just missing the python-gnomekeyring module, on which python-keyring now relies on. I think the same problem happens for users which were using the KDE keyring, though I'm not using it so I can't really say. May I suggest you to add a 'Suggest: python-gnomekeyring' or something like that to the python-keyring package? I'm not really sure how to handle the upgrade process from the previous version to this one, maybe you could figure a better plan, but I think this could be the minimum to do. On the console, I have the following output: ** (nm-applet:2410): WARNING **: WARN activate_connection_cb(): Connection activation failed: No user settings service available * I can't enable or disable Networking or Wireless when I right click on the tray icon, because the entries are greyed out; * I can edit the settings of the Wireless connections I saved, but I can't set the flag Available for all users, because it is greyed out. Despite all of this, the wireless system seems to be OK, since I can connect using wpa_supplicant alone. Also, I tried to downgrade to NetworkManager 0.8.1-6, which I was using previously, and it worked as expected. I provide, attached to this email, the output of the NetworkManager daemon and nm-applet for the faulty version: * the daemon log doesn't show anything when I tried to connect to a Wireless network; * the nm-applet log shows what's happenning when I try to connect and when I try to edit a connection. Bug#494051: eeepc-acpi-modules-2.6.26-1-686 hangs and then oops when unloading
Package: eeepc-acpi-modules-2.6.26-1-686 Version: 2.6.26+1.0-1 Severity: important Hi, I just updated my EEEPC 701 to linux-2.6.26, using the eeepc-acpi-modules-2.6.26-1-686 package. It seemed to work like a charm, but after a while, Fn+F[1-9] shortcuts don't work anymore. A few tests later, it seems that if you press Fn+F3 (for eg.) continuously, shortcuts don't work anymore, whereas if you use them sparingly, it works OK. When shortcuts are off, if I try to unload the eeepc-acpi module, I got a segmentation fault (I join the dmesg message with the oops trace as an attachment). Subsequent unloading leads to a 'Device or resource busy' error message. I can give you more informations if needed, if you tell me what you need (and how I can give it to you, this if the first I report a bug against a driver!) Bug#462255: mpdscribble: Doesn't detect songs changes anymore
Package: mpdscribble Version: 0.2.12-6 Severity: important Hello, last week-end, I restarted the mpdscribble daemon, and today, I just see that all the musics I played throught mpd has not been scrobbled to my Last.fm account. I upgraded the mpd and libmpd packages last week. In the mpdscribble's log file, there's no sign of songs changes (despite mpd has played several songs) : [2008/01/23 12:38:06] notice: sending password ... This log is not very helpful, since it doesn't show any song activity (of course, this is why I am reporting this bug :-) ), despite I played and skipped several songs during this laps time (just to test). I digged into the mpdscribble source code, and it seems it provides it's own version of libmpdclient. However, there's no version associated with this library. So, I tried to recompile the mpdscribble executable against the system-wide libmpdclient (provided by the libmpd-dev package), and since, it seems to work much better (new song detected, and the like). I guess the old (?) libmpdclient provided by mpdscribble is not compatible with the newer mpd I have on my system, and so, that's why it didn't work. Is there any reason not to use the system-wide libmpdclient (despite the fact the mpdscribble upstream already provides this library) ? Is it possible to build mpdscribble against it ? If no, could you look at the bug reported at the beginning of this mail ? Bug#462161: etckeeper: Commit uncommited files after installing new package
Package: etckeeper Version: 0.10 Severity: important Hello, when installing a new package etckeeper commit modified files, even if you specified not to commit them before installing the new package. Bug#460102: mpd: Socket error when playing to Icecast
Package: mpd Version: 0.13.0-2 Severity: wishlist Hello, I used mpd as a Internet Radio, streaming my music throught Icecast, with the shout type audio output. It works almost perfectly, because there's a small problem with the Play functionnality : if I stop the music in mpd, wait few minutes and then restart it, I got this in my mpd/error.log file : Jan 10 16:46 : Lost shout connection to localhost:8088 : Socket error Jan 10 16:46 : problems opening audio device while playing ... Jan 10 16:46 : problems opening audio device while playing ... (localhost:8088 is the network address on which Icecast is listening, as specified in my mpd.conf file) ... and I need to press play several times before mpd starts to play sound. Sometimes, I need to press play about ten times! This bug has been reported upstream (see [1]) and it has been fixed in severals SVN commit (which are reported in [1]). There's also a workaround in [1] (using a dummy audio output). However, I would like to know if it's possible to backport those fixes into the Debian package, because it's a strange and irritating behavior (since mpd release are not frequent). Bug#411487: libapache2-mod-python: md5 calculation conflicts with php5-mhash module
Package: libapache2-mod-python Version: 3.2.10-3 Severity: important Hello, I wanted to deploy a new Django application today, but it didn't work :( It failed with a SuspiciousOperation exception, which appears to be related to sessions, which in turns use md5. You can find some reference to this bug, already reported on the mod_python mailing list in [1], and a workaround in [2]. I join the test case from [1] in this bug : - with php5-mhash installed and activated in Apache, all tests failed - after purging php5-mhash AND restarting Apache, all tests passed So, it seems it's directly related to libmhash2 (as [2] suggests). I can reproduce on sid-i386. On etch-x86_64, it seems that Apache2 segfault (without php5-mhash, everything is ok) : [Mon Feb 19 13:31:10 2007] [notice] mod_python: (Re)importing module 'test' [Mon Feb 19 13:31:10 2007] [notice] child pid 16238 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I think this bug is RC-critical for Etch. However, I'll let libapache2-mod-python maintainers tag it as appropriate. I report against libapache2-mod-python, since this is the package which seems to be affected by the bug. However, feel free to reassign to php5-mhash or libmhash2. This is just a tip, not really a good solution ... Hope it could save some works ;) Regards, Jonathan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#350049: notify-daemon: notification popups are unreadable
Package: notify-daemon Version: 0.3.1-1 Severity: normal Hello, I'm using notify-daemon with Gajim (GTK Jabber client). Gajim displays popups when a contact connects or when I receive a message. However, the way those popups are rendering is nearly unreadable (see attached screenshot). I had notification-daemon from experimental before, until notify-daemon came into SID, and popup rendering was not the same as notify-daemon : it was a _lot_ clearer. So, I guess the problem came from notify-daemon (since I haven't change anything from Gajim). However, there's not much debian documentation or even galago documentation on it ...
