Bug#415160: avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh doesn't work correctly in non-C locale environments

2007-03-16 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: avahi-daemon
Version: 0.6.16-4
Severity: normal

Hi there,

I just wondered why the avahi-daemon won't shut down even if there is a
..local domain available in my network and found out, that it does not
wor correctly when the system locale has been set to something else than
any english locale.

In detail:

The script avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh should grep all interface ip-adresses:

ADDRS=$(ifconfig | grep ' addr:')

With the system locale set to [EMAIL PROTECTED] the grep doesn't match anything
'cause addr: is Adresse: here. Maybe this line should be changed to

ADDRS=$(LC_ALL=C ifconfig | grep ' addr:')

Now it works for me.

Regards, Michael

Yes - I'm sorry but I must report that the deamon still hangs with the kill
switch turned on.

I just tested with linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 (2.6.18.dfsg.1-10),
ipw3945-modules-2.6.18-4-686 (2.6.18+1.1.3-4) and ipw3945d (1.7.22-3).

Thanks for keeping an eye upon this issue!

I already upgraded to 1.1.3 before reporting. Here is the list of installed
package versions:

ii firmware-ipw3945 0.3Binary firmware for IPW3945

Yes, there is kernel 2.8.16 running on my laptop:

I see, maybe I should wait for 2.6.19 appearing in Sid. ;)

Strange, beacuse I'm running the actual package which is available in Sid.

Even if I don't see any soft lockup messages on the console or in my
syslog/bootlog I agree with you that waiting for the next driver/daemon
release is a good idea. :)

Bug#405270: AW: machine hangs after loading ipw3945d

Jurij,

after changing the sleeptime for up to 30 seconds I must say that it doesn't
work for me either. The /etc/init.d/ipw3945d script exits normally (return
code 0) but the script (/etc/init.d/networking) refuses to continue.

Hi Michael,

This issue has been reported privately, however the person who
experienced the problems with booting with kill switch on later
mentioned that 1.7.22-3 works ok for him. It is most likely some
timing issue, please try increasing the delay after the daemon is
started by looking for a line 'sleep 3' in /etc/init.d/ipw3945d
and changing the number (delay in seconds) to something larger to see
if it helps.

Best regards,

2007-01-02 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: ipw3945d
Version: 1.7.22-3
Severity: normal

Hi there,

on my DELL Inspiron 6400 the boot process hangs after executing
/etc/init.d/ipw3945d when the kill switch is on (that means radio has
been disabled).

Even when I turn the radio on again (set kill switch to off) the system
does not continue booting. Only turning off helps.

When the radio is on while booting the system just starts normally.

Michael

Oops, sorry. I didn't know that the BOINC client keeps track of the size of
its logfiles.

I agree that any additional logfile rotation isn't needed in this case.

Package: boinc-client
Version: 5.4.11-2

Hi there,

I think it would be a nice feature to have some sort of a logfile rotation,
maybe using logrotate.

As far as I can see the files stdoutdae.txt and stderrdae.txt are always
growing so it might have sense to rotate them sometimes. Something like

/var/lib/boinc-client/stderrdae.txt /var/lib/boinc-client/stdoutdae.txt {
compress
copytruncate
create 644 boinc boinc
daily
delaycompress
missingok
notifempty
rotate 8
start 0
}

should do the trick.

Version: 1.0.11-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

after upgrading to the latest alsa-utils this morning my it won't restore the
saved settings from /var/lib/alsa/asound.state. I think the problem is this
line from /etc/init.d/alsa-utils:

# Exit silently if package is no longer installed

It seems that there is no /lib/alsa-utils anymore and thus the initscript

Sorry, I just filed another bug (no. 362296) against x-ttcidfont-conf which

Maybe this bug should be merged with bug no. 362296.

I apoligize any inconvenience that may have been caused by me.

Bug#362298: ksynaptics should also depend on xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

2006-04-13 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: ksynaptics
Severity: important

Hi,

after upgrading xserver-xorg to 7.0.10 and installing
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics I wanted to install ksynaptics. But
it depends on xfree86-driver-synaptics or xorg-driver-synaptics.

Maybe it should also depend on xserver-xorg-input-synaptics?

Regards, Michael

Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

after upgrading xserver-xorg to version 7.0.10 yesterday the
/usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir doesn't exist anymore. I think this is the reason
why the following error message appears:

Creating a link /usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir -> /usr/bin/mkfontdir fixes the
problem.

Bug#362144: xserver-xorg: X won't start due to missing font

2006-04-12 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.10

Hi,

I just installed the actual xserver-xorg and after trying to start
it tells me

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

I tried to investigate and found out that the font fixed is an alias
which is defined in /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/misc/xfonts-base.alias. But
it seems as it isn't used.

Bug#362111: xserver-xorg: [synaptics] input module not found

2006-04-12 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: xserver-xorg

Hi,

I just updated my unstable XServer on my laptop. Autodetecting mouse, keyboard
and monitor creates an xorg.conf which tries to load the synaptics module,
has been present until the upgrade.

This is why X refuses to start. Xorg.0.log says

(EE) No Input driver matching `synaptics'

I just found out that the line mentioned above comes

installed as version 4.17-1.

Maybe the bug should be reassigned.

Same over here. Upgrading the Kernel without a modified /etc/yaird/Default.cfg
leads to a properly running system.

Even after the latest yaird update (0.0.12-2) and another "dpkg-reconfigure
linux-image-2.6.14-2-686" everything runs fine.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

just to add some more (maybe helpful) information:

I just upgraded the kernel on my AMD machine and had the same problems.
Adding the modules amd74xx, ide-generic and ide-disk to the
/etc/yaird/Default.cfg and rebuilding the kernel fixed the problem. My
machine is now bootable again (I'm writing this additional information
with it right now ;).

Now I gave it another try and added

MODULE piix
MODULE ide-generic
MODULE ide-disk

to the /etc/yaird/Default.cfg. After reconfiguring the
linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 and rebooting I have DMA reenabled.

Using only "MODULE piix" in the /etc/yaird/Default.cfg results in an
unbootable system. Too bad that this machine is not accessible to me right
now, so my testing time is over for now. :)

Saw that already yesterday. Seems to be an issue with the
linux-image-2-6-14-2-686 (2.6.14-5).

Bug#343048: linux-image-2.6.14-2-686: no need to install initramfs-tools

2005-12-12 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: linux-image-2.6.14-2-686
Version: 2.6.14-5
Followup-For: Bug #343048

Hi,

after being knocked down with the same problem which left my system in
an unbootable state I wondered if it wasn't possible to bring the system
back to life without removing yaird. This is what I simply did:

- boot system with KNOPPIX
- mount the root partition
- remount the /dev into the root partition
- chroot into your root partition
- mount /proc
- mount /sys
- edit /etc/yaird/Default.cfg and add
MODULE ide-generic
MODULE ide-disk
right after the "MODULE evdev" line
- dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.14-2-686
- umount /sys
- umount /proc
- leave chroot'ed partition and umount it

And right after a reboot your system is usable again. :)

Regards, Michael

Bug#238997: nvidia-kernel-2.4.27-2-k7: nvidia-kernel-2.6.14-2-k7 needed :)

2005-11-20 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: nvidia-kernel-2.4.27-2-k7

Followup-For: Bug #238997

Yeah, I support that.

Having up-to-date NVIDIA kernel module in hthe unstable branch fitting
the actual linux-image-* packages (2.6.14-2-k7 in my case) would help
most users (including me) a lot. :)

As you can see I needed to install the 2.4.27-2-k7 kernel only because I
wanted to use only Debian supported binary packages. But did you ever
tried booting a 2.4 kernel on a machine which is optimized for a 2.6
kernel (no hotplug, only udev to name only one example)? ;)

2005-11-15 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: pcmcia-cs

I had the same problems with my Xircom Cardbus Ethernet 10/100 NIC and
found out that adding

Strange to say, that my 3com 3CRWE62092B WLAN NIC even works without
adding that line to the interfaces file. It only needs some modification

Bug#332778: kmldonkey: ed2k links in konqueror are not accepted

2005-10-08 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: kmldonkey
Version: 0.10-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

as you can see by the list below I'm running your kmldonkey package from
unstable.

But I'm unable to add ed2k:// links from konqueror directly to my remote
running core by clicking on them: When I click on an ed2k:// link my
konqueror tells me something like (I have that warning in german so I
had to translate ist - might be possible that this is not 100% correct):

This page is not secure and owns the link ed2k://|foo|bar|...
Would you like to follow the link?

I hit "Follow", of course, and get another error message telling me that
access to ed2k://|foo|bar|... has been denied because of the page being
not secure.

/usr/share/services/ed2k.protocol seems to be correct in my eyes so why
do I get that error message?

Regards, Michael

Bug#330701:

2005-09-29 Thread Michael Setzer
Hi,

I had the same problem a few minutes ago and figured out that the locales
packages doesn't erflect the changes that have been made in the login
package:

# cat /etc/pam.d/su

[...]
# This module parses /etc/environment (the standard for setting
# environ vars) and also allows you to use an extended config
# file /etc/security/pam_env.conf.
# (Replaces the `ENVIRON_FILE' setting from login.defs)
auth required pam_env.so
[...]

This means that you have to add something like

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

to your /etc/security/pam_env.conf and everything should work again as
usual.

Maybe this issue should be reflected in the next version of the locales
package so that the pam_env.conf file will be upgraded properly by any
`dpkg-reconfigure locales`.

Bug#310678: AW: Bug#310678 acknowledged by developer (Bug#310479: fixed in lvm-common 1.5.19)

2005-05-25 Thread Michael Setzer
Patrick,

I'm not pretty sure if I got you right.

After upgrading lvm-common to 1.5.19 the error is still there and my system
is still unbootable (same error message as described already).

What I've done now to upgrade to 1.5.19 is:

- booted with the Debian-Installer RC3 CD (linux26 vga=791)
- switched to a console with CTRL+ALT+F2 when partition screen appeared
- modprobe dm-mod
- vgscan
- vgchange -a y VG
- mkdir /mnt
- mount /dev/mapper/VG-root /mnt
- chroot /mnt
- mount /proc
- mount /dev/hda5 /boot
- apt-get update
- apt-get install lvm-common

Bug#305239: #305239 mailscanner: stops scanning email

2005-04-20 Thread Michael Setzer
Yeah, same problem over here.

I have several machines installed under Debian/Testing and all of them show
the same symptoms.

Here are some of the last few lines from the syslog:

"rm -f $LOCKFILE" EXIT; touch $LOCKFILE; /usr/bin/nice
-$run_nice /usr/sbin/check_mailscanner >/dev/null 2>&1; exit 0)

Everytime MailScanner stops working the same "child dying of old age" message
appears. Because of the mailscanner process seems to be still alive (even if
it's not but still appears in the process list) the mailscanner cronjob isn't
able to restart it.
