Bug#526770: Problems after 2.2.2-10 to 2.4.1-2 upgrade
Package: nut Version: 2.4.1-2 Severity: important Hello, I had a running 2.2.2-10. Upgraded today, probably a little while after 2.4.1-2 hit testing. I can see the following problems: 1) Can upsmon log to the UPS without problems? I have commented out the firing of upsmon in the init.d script, fired the other 2 layers with it (init.d script), and then issued upsmon -DDD 2> ~/upsmon.out > ~/upsmon.out. After physically disconnecting and restoring the UPS mains power, I hited CTRL-C on upsmon. The upsmon.out file is attached. Note that I have taken out (and restored) the power cable only once. 2) /etc/default/nut was removed by the upgrade. /etc/default/nut.dpkg-dist was not. 3) The permissions I set on the serial port, that is connected to the UPS, were modified even though I have them listed with dpkg-statoverride. 4) The configuration example files are not fully consistent with the valid configuration. For example, upsmon.conf.sample mentions an allowfrom line. upsmon.out Description: Binary data

Package: apache2.2-common Version: 2.2.11-3 Severity: minor Most of /etc/apache2/sites-available/default uses a TAB, '\t', for indentation. Bug#515853: 1) A policy violation? 2) unacceptable pam settings?
Package: vsftpd Version: 2.0.7-2 Severity: serious 1) vsftpd.postinst creates /home/ftp. I think that this is a policy violation because packages should not create home directories under /home/. In addition, some users would prefer other arrangements. 2) The new pam.d/vsftpd breaks my usage of virtual users. I think that the problem is described in #333187. I think that many sites would use ftp logins that are not found in the traditional unix users db. 3) As an aside, I wish there were a /var/log/vsftpd/ directory. Bug#514769: O: inadyn -- client to alleviate the requirements for an Internet name
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I intend to orphan the inadyn package. The package description is: With this package the user can have an Internet name for his host even though he might not have a registered domain name, a static IP, or run a name server. It works by being a client of a supposedly open name server and updating the server's records when the need arise. This is sometimes reffered to as ddns, which is a shorthand for dynamic DNS. http://inadyn.ina-tech.net has a link to a better defintion of what Dynamic DNS system is. It also carries a list of service providers. Some of these services are free of charge. . This is a command line tool that is written in portable ANSI C with a little OS abstraction layer. It is using a Multi-protocol file transfer library, which is ported to all the main operating systems, for the network related stuff. It can maintain multiple host names and multiple service providers with the same IP address, and has a web based IP detection which runs well behind a NAT router. . kexec init script is installed S85. sysv-rc's reboot is installed S90. Reboot uses its -f flag. There fore, I see no reason why kexec won't use its -f flag too. Bug#474291: Does [EMAIL PROTECTED]' equivalent to `include'?
1. The following can be useful to document the @include directive. It was noted that one can use include and @include directives at the same configuration file. It is taken from https://www.redhat.com/archives/pam-list/2008-April/msg00010.html --- Nicolas François wrote: > > The syntax for include and @include differ. > > In a /etc/pam.d file, the syntax of a line is: > > > > include is used as a > > @include is used as a > > > Then the semantic is also different: > > include: > include all lines of given type from the > configuration file specified as > an argument to this control. > > @include: > parse a given file at the given location of the > /etc/pam.d file > 2. I think that @include obeys to the least expected surprise rule. I am reading the administrator pam guide. Even though the guide documents the include directive correctly, unless I had written this reply I would remember that the semantics of include is actually the semantics of @include. Obviously, if I had seen a correct configuration file that someone else wrote, I might have notice that contrary to my expectations, include is used as a and not as a . However if I had tried to wrote a configuration file from scratch, I might have wrote a line with include as a . 3. In order to better emphasize and differentiate @include from include to the occasional reader, perhaps one of the two should have renamed source? You rock. Bug#472196: wontfix
1. As I pointed out in another report, /etc/vsftpd might be a suitable place for the empty directory. vsftpd also let the user use more configuration files for various tasks. /etc/vsftpd should be a natural place for those configuration files. 2. The transition can be made easier by keeping /etc/vsftpd.conf for a while, and activating vsftpd from within the init script with the new configuration file as an argument. A better way might be to use the maintainer scripts to move the configuration file into the new directory. Getting rid of /usr/doc involved thousands of packages. Here it is only one file for one package. 3. If I didn't convince you and you don't like many open bugs for the vsftpd package, then I don't mind if you close the report instead of leaving it in an wontfix state. --- Matej Vela <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > tag 472196 wontfix > thanks > > shaul Karl <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > > Many packages create a dedicated directory in > /etc. > > I find it better organized. > > I think it's unnecessary for a single file, and the > transition would be > quite a hassle (cf. how long it took us to get rid > of /usr/doc). > > Cheers, > > Matej > Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Bug#345763: Having linux.tar.gz rather then linux.zip?
This message was bcc'ed to the upstream author in order not to get his email address recorded in the BTS. Hello, Since you are already providing a .tgz source for Open BSD, would you consider replacing the format of the linux source to linux.tar.gz? To the best of my knowledge, 1. A .tar.gz, which is sometimes referred to as a .tgz, is generally considered the standard format for any Unix source package. 2. A .zip file is usually used only with MS-Windows systems. In short, having a linux.tar.gz rather then linux.zip would be somewhat easier for any linux user. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#295519: Shouldn't the package remove lm-sensors from /etc/blacklist.d ?
Package: lm-sensors Version: 1:2.9.0-13 Severity: minor When upgrading TO 2.9.0-12, dpkg announces that /etc/blacklist.d is not removed because it is populated with lm-sensors. Doesn't lm-sensors assumes responsibility for /etc/blacklist.d/lm-sensors? Now that I have 2.9.0-13, can I safely remove the lm-sensors from /etc/blacklist.d? Can I safely delete the blacklist.d directory afterwards? -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-3.pentium2.2 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages lm-sensors depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.4.30.11Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libsensors3 1:2.9.0-12 library to read temperature/voltag ii makedev 2.3.1-75 Creates device files in /dev ii perl5.8.4-6 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii sed 4.1.2-8 The GNU sed stream editor ii sysvinit2.86.ds1-1 System-V like init ii ucf 1.13 Update Configuration File: preserv -- debconf information: lm-sensors/negatives: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I'd done packages myself but my life has been way too crazy to adequately follow up gPHPEdit so feel free to sponsor Lior with the package. Bug#218868: Maintaining gphpedit (bug #218868)?
Hello, At the end of 2003 you issued an ITP to gphpedit (bug #218868). Can I upload a deb for gphpedit, setting a NM applicant (Lior Kaplan) to the maintainer? Perhaps you would like to review his package or sponsor him by yourself? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#289271: In addition, I believe that fai-setup:add_export_line() is broken

For some reason I got the last 2 lines of add_export_line() mixed together as if they are a single line. I guess I hit something within the editor without putting attention. The 2nd patch is not needed. I apologize it took you time. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Perhaps I am wrong. 1) The return issue. The code uses a construct of the form: return echo 1 Yet this construct might be specific to your default shell. Here I get: $ sh sh-2.05b$ sh --version GNU bash, version 2.05b.0(1)-release (i386-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc. sh-2.05b$ test1() { echo 1; return; } sh-2.05b$ test2() { return echo 1; } sh-2.05b$ test1 1 sh-2.05b$ test2 sh: return: echo: numeric argument required sh-2.05b$ exit exit $ help return return: return [n] Causes a function to exit with the return value specified by N. If N is omitted, the return status is that of the last command. $ Also note the help states that omitting the return value will make it return the status of the last command. 2) The return value of grep. The way I see it, the grep statement is an attempt to verify that the directories we are interested in are not mentioned in /etc/exports. In which case the following echo statement will write them there. Therefore, the following code is a test case: $ cat example dir1 dir2 $ grep "^dir1[[:space:]]" example dir1 $ grep -q '^dir1[[:space:]]' example && echo not found not found $ $ # This is obviously wrong. dir1 is mentioned in the file. Now let us $ # negate the return value of grep: $ $ ! grep -q '^dir1[[:space:]]' example && echo not found $ $ # Which is what we want, or so I believe. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
