Bug#850082: Fix recursive dependency on node-yamlish/marked
Package: nodejs Version: 6.9.2~dfsg-1 At the moment, there's a recursive dependency between nodejs and node-yamlish/marked, which means that various architectures that don't have a current nodejs aren't able to make a new one (causing BD-Uninstallable as per https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=nodejs). Luckily apparently there's a way around this sort of thing using build profiles ( https://wiki.debian.org/BuildProfileSpec), and I've attached a patch (against the master-6.x branch in the source repo, but might well build against lower versioned ones with small changes). Thanks, Tom Parker nodejs-build-profiles.patch Description: Binary data

Bug#581601: Libraries linked into liboauth
Liboauth (certainly in 0.8.8) doesn't link in the full set of libraries itself, but relies on the end user to do so, hence dpkg-shlibdeps confusion. This is pretty silly, and also means we get a large block of libs listed in oauth.pc, which is also annoying. The attached patch fixes these issues with liboauth 0.8.8. Package: libnss3-dev Version: 3.12.8~b2-1 Severity: minor /usr/lib/pkgconfig/nss.pc has a long list of libraries listed on the Libs line. Bug#587008: python-gtk2: python2.5 dep should be a conflicts
Package: python-gtk2 Version: 2.16.0-2 Severity: minor python-gtk2 has a dependency on python2.5 = 2.5.2-5 (presumably in order to get around some bug in lower versions). With the python 2.6 transition, this results in it being impossible to remove python 2.5 and have a python2.6-only system, as the dependency pulls in python2.5. As a result of this I get the following problem. palf...@missfun:[~] sudo dpkg -a --configure Setting up initramfs-tools (0.93.4) ... update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated) Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ... update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-3-amd64 /usr/sbin/mkinitramfs: 141: mktemp: not found update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-3-amd64 dpkg: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 -- Package-specific info: -- /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=//vmlinuz-2.6.32-3-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/missfun-root ro quiet -- /proc/filesystems ext3 ext2 fuseblk ext4 reiserfs xfs jfs msdos vfat ntfs hfs hfsplus ufs udf iso9660 -- lsmod Module Size Used by parport_pc 18855 1 vboxnetadp 4225 0 vboxnetflt 9978 0 vboxdrv 1710854 3 vboxnetadp,vboxnetflt nls_cp437 5817 1 ppdev 5030 0 lp 7462 0 parport27938 3 parport_pc,ppdev,lp usb_storage38521 1 isofs 27480 0 udf66644 0 crc_itu_t 1307 1 udf nls_utf81208 1 ufs56490 0 hfsplus65270 0 hfs37439 0 ntfs 162860 0 vfat7884 1 msdos 6202 0 fat40054 2 vfat,msdos jfs 140051 0 xfs 435388 0 exportfs3170 1 xfs reiserfs 194010 0 ext4 285099 0 jbd2 66887 1 ext4 crc16 1319 1 ext4 cpufreq_conservative 5162 0 cpufreq_powersave902 0 cpufreq_userspace 1992 0 cpufreq_stats 2659 0 fuse 50110 3 ext2 52969 1 loop 11783 0 snd_hda_codec_analog64530 1 snd_hda_intel 19619 2 snd_hda_codec 54212 2 snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_hda_intel snd_hwdep 5364 1 snd_hda_codec snd_pcm60615 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec snd_timer 15502 1 snd_pcm usbhid 33132 0 hid62825 1 usbhid snd46350 10 snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 4598 1 snd psmouse49505 0 snd_page_alloc 6217 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm dcdbas 5048 0 i2c_i8017798 0 pcspkr 1699 0 serio_raw 3752 0 evdev 7336 8 processor 30215 0 ext3 106486 1 jbd37053 1 ext3 mbcache 4970 3 ext4,ext2,ext3 dm_mod 53674 6 uhci_hcd 18505 0 sg 18728 0 sr_mod 12602 0 sd_mod 29689 5 cdrom 29399 1 sr_mod crc_t10dif 1276 1 sd_mod ata_generic 2983 0 i915 248774 5 drm_kms_helper 18899 1 i915 ahci 32038 2 drm 137190 6 i915,drm_kms_helper i2c_algo_bit4225 1 i915 libata132183 2 ata_generic,ahci scsi_mod 121925 5 usb_storage,sg,sr_mod,sd_mod,libata i2c_core 15584 4 i2c_i801,i915,drm,i2c_algo_bit video 17445 1 i915 button 4634 1 i915 ehci_hcd 30706 0 output 1692 1 video e1000e109919 0 usbcore 121703 5 usb_storage,usbhid,uhci_hcd,ehci_hcd nls_base6377 11 nls_cp437,isofs,udf,nls_utf8,hfsplus,hfs,ntfs,vfat,fat,jfs,usbcore ide_pci_generic 2788 0 ide_core 76850 1 ide_pci_generic intel_agp 25593 1 thermal11674 0 fan 3346 0 thermal_sys11878 4 processor,video,thermal,fan -- /etc/kernel-img.conf # Kernel image management overrides # See kernel-img.conf(5) for details do_symlinks = yes do_bootloader = no do_initrd = yes link_in_boot = no postinst_hook = update-grub postrm_hook = update-grub -- /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf MODULES=most BUSYBOX=y KEYMAP=n BOOT=local DEVICE=eth0 NFSROOT=auto -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (700, 'stable'), (650, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable'), (500, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale:

The issue is partly because this is a mixed release box, with some stable, testing and unstable packages, but this is still an issue that should be dealt with (partially because it may cause weird upgrade issues for some users I suspect). Bug#511693: Cnetworkmanager packaging
I'd been recently interested in trying to package cnetworkmanager, and found quite a lot of half-done work namely, two ITPs (#438544 and #511693), as well as Alexander Block's page but seemingly no package on mentors.debian.net (http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=cnetworkmanager). I tried doing my own upload to mentors, but that appears to be not coming up (guessing that's because of the earlier entry?). My own efforts to this are at http://tevp.net/debian/cnetworkmanager/, but would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on resolving this quagmire that anyone has. Bug#511693: Cnetworkmanager packaging
On 28 February 2010 20:33, W. Martin Borgert deba...@debian.org wrote: To accelerate things a bit, I volunteer to upload the package to Debian unstable. I would prefer, however, that the package is team maintained, i.e. under the hood of the Python Application Packaging Team. This way everybody could help, without being an official Debian developer. How does everybody think about this? Yes, this works well for me. It's now been accepted onto mentors, and I've uploaded a revised version of the package both there and to the URL I gave earlier which fixes a lack of a python-support dependency, and it's now free of lintian errors. There isn't a manpage for the cnetworkmanager script yet however, so that still flags a warning at the moment. The attached patch uses the Requires.private field to only pull in the other libraries as and when needed. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libsexy-dev depends on: ii libatk1.0-dev 1.29.3-1 Development files for the ATK acce ii libcairo2-dev 1.8.8-2 Development files for the Cairo 2D ii libfreetype6-dev2.3.9-4 FreeType 2 font engine, developmen ii libglib2.0-dev 2.23.0-1 Development files for the GLib lib ii libgtk2.0-dev 2.19.1-1 Development files for the GTK+ lib ii libpango1.0-dev 1.26.1-1 Development files for the Pango ii libsexy20.1.11-2+b1 collection of additional GTK+ widg ii libxcursor-dev 1:1.1.9-1X cursor management library (devel ii libxml2-dev 2.7.5.dfsg-1 Development files for the GNOME XM ii libxrender-dev 1:0.9.4-2X Rendering Extension client libra libsexy-dev recommends no packages. -- no debconf information From fe747e04edf7fd127dad6d92bbda728260d169a8 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Tom Parker palf...@tevp.net Date: Tue, 15 Dec 2009 15:56:28 + Subject: [PATCH] Use pkg-config modules rather than libs/cflags --- configure|2 ++ configure.ac |1 + debian/changelog |6 ++ libsexy.pc.in|5 +++-- 4 files changed, 12 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/configure b/configure index bc49b6e..02cc707 100755 --- a/configure +++ b/configure @@ -20268,6 +20268,8 @@ echo ${ECHO_T}yes 6; } fi +PACKAGE_DEPS=$pkg_modules + GLIB_GENMARSHAL=`pkg-config --variable=glib_genmarshal glib-2.0` diff --git a/configure.ac b/configure.ac index 1181192..3a2d8bb 100644 --- a/configure.ac +++ b/configure.ac @@ -86,6 +86,7 @@ pkg_modules=pango = 1.4.0, glib-2.0 = 2.4.0, gtk+-2.0 = 2.4.0, libxml-2.0 PKG_CHECK_MODULES(PACKAGE, [$pkg_modules]) AC_SUBST(PACKAGE_CFLAGS) AC_SUBST(PACKAGE_LIBS) +AC_SUBST(PACKAGE_DEPS, $pkg_modules) GLIB_GENMARSHAL=`pkg-config --variable=glib_genmarshal glib-2.0` AC_SUBST(GLIB_GENMARSHAL) diff --git a/debian/changelog b/debian/changelog index 7d44853..5fdf2ac 100644 --- a/debian/changelog +++ b/debian/changelog @@ -1,3 +1,9 @@ +libsexy (0.1.11-3) UNRELEASED; urgency=low + + * Use pkg-config modules rather than libs/cflags + + -- Tom Parker palf...@tevp.net Tue, 15 Dec 2009 15:57:22 + + libsexy (0.1.11-2) unstable; urgency=low * Fix DEB_SHLIBDEPS_INCLUDE_ and DEB_DH_MAKESHLIBS_ARGS_ to act on libsexy2 diff --git a/libsexy.pc.in b/libsexy.pc.in index 50d0d07..4dbd5cf 100644 --- a/libsexy.pc.in +++ b/libsexy.pc.in @@ -6,7 +6,8 @@ includedir=${prefix}/include Name: libsexy Description: Doing naughty things to good widgets Version: @VERSION@ -Libs: -L${libdir} -lsexy @PACKAGE_LIBS@ -Cflags: -I${includedir} @PACKAGE_CFLAGS@ +Requires.private: @PACKAGE_DEPS@ +Libs: -L${libdir} -lsexy +Cflags: -I${includedir} -- 1.6.5.3
Bug#543517: Gnome-do without NetworkManager
This (according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/do/+bug/393702 ) appears to be due to an assumption that Network Manager would be present, and might well have been fixed in the new version (0.8.3). Bug#553360: transmageddon: Transmageddon doesn't start with python-gobject 2.15
Package: transmageddon Version: 0.14-1 Severity: normal Transmageddon doesn't start with earlier versions of python-gobject because it's missing the glib module, but this isn't mentioned in the dependencies. This isn't desparartely interesting for Debian, as transmageddon is only in squeeze and sid, and python-gobject is 2.20 in squeeze, which works. 2.14 (lenny version) doesn't work, 2.16 should work and I think the earliest working version is 2.15.4 or something around there... This is mostly of interest for backporters, but would be nice to get right anyway. Also, when it fails, it doesn't give a useful error message, making solving this non-trivial for average users. Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686 Version: 2.6.29-1 Severity: normal Running powertop on the 2.6.29-1 kernel gets me the following Top causes for wakeups: 50.8% (126.3) kernel core : hrtimer_start_expires (tick_sched_timer) 12.8% ( 31.7) kernel IPI : Rescheduling interrupts 7.4% ( 18.5) interrupt : uhci_hcd:usb3, ath 5.3% ( 13.1) interrupt : ata_piix 4.4% ( 10.9) interrupt : extra timer interrupt Previously, the major cause of interrupts had been the kernel IPI, and hence one reason for upgrading to the latest kernel version. Now there's hrtimer_start_expires, and quite frankly this is a median case - I've seen it hit as high as 500 interrupts/second occasionally. Bug#451124: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#451124: linux-sound-base: postinst error when using cdebconf as debconf-2.0 choice
2009/3/8 Elimar Riesebieter riese...@lxtec.de: debconf-2.0 is provided by debconf. Is this bug relevant for you? debconf-2.0 can also be provided by cdebconf, and so the dependencies could be satisfied by cdebconf without debconf. In that case, linux-sound-base's install breaks as I showed, so linux-sound-base should either a) remove the debconf-2.0 dep, as it really depends on debconf itself or b) fix the issue so it can install with cdebconf on it's own. Bug#475858: Elfkickers FTFBS due to asm/elf.h removal from kernel
merge 475858 479900 thanks Elfkickers currently FTBFS on sid systems due to the kernel no longer exporting asm/elf.h as a header, and so elfkickers needs specific dependancies to sort this out. I think I've found a good set of deps (patch attached) but here's some explanation why these various things might work (depending on whether you're on a lenny, etch or sid system): libc6-dev: 2.7-13 is the current lenny/sid version, and that has asm/elf.h in it. Lower versions might also work (2.7-10 doesn't according to http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2008/05/06/elfkickers_2.0a-3_sid32-gcc43.buildlog.gz), but I haven't checked. linux-libc-dev (or linux-kernel-headers, which by lenny becomes a virtual package supplied by linux-libc-dev): 2.6.24 appears to be the right timeframe for last kernel that exported the header based on http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=6cc931b9b5ec652c90b928f3ec2163f261552c91 being the commit that removes the asm/elf.h export, and http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=tag;h=0d733ddb2026683da26c1722847b99911c43ccb5 - the tag for 2.6.24 - being the last version tag before that. 2.6.25 is at http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=tag;h=20b8df8e5501bac243e64c0c8c52907735a0041b and is too late. Between these three, the right packages should get pulled in and everything *should* just work! Bug#499352: Fuse-utils and udev
According to the fuse-utils.postinst script, that it tried to invoke udev indicates that fuse has detected udev in operation and so shouldn't need to check for the existence of the script... specifically udev=0 if grep -qE '^udev /dev' /proc/mounts; then udev=1 elif [ -d /dev/.udevdb/ -o -d /dev/.udev/ ]; then udev=1 fi if udev is still 0 after that, then the invoke-rc.d isn't done. Bug#500637: ndisgtk failure to find ndiswrapper
This would be because ndisgtk can't find the ndiswrapper module, which has presumably not been installed. Try modprobe ndiswrapper and you should get the same error. Installing module-assistant and ndiswrapper-source and then entering m-a a-i ndiswrapper should build and install the correct version of the module for you, but this doesn't get around the core issue of ndisgtk not noticing a lack of an ndiswrapper module. The attached patch should partially fix this by making ndisgtk throw up a warning dialog when the ndiswrapper module is not present. I've checked this against 0.15 and it works ok now. This isn't so much of an issue for mainstream Debian use (as desktop-file-utils is already =0.13 in lenny and sid) but for backporters like myself it would be very useful (plus, it's generally a good idea to have more accurate dependencies specified). Bug#462859: Pinging on python-debian support for tar.bz2 archives
2008/9/9 Stefano Zacchiroli [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unfortunately not, thus far I haven't been able to try out the solution (4) mentioned in the bug log to, which looks like the most likely to be successful. If you want to help, feel free to try it out and provide a patch. If you can't do that, even only verifying whether all the methods of the file-like interface we use are supported by tarfile would help. Done and attached :-) The biggest problem is that Tarfile's __init__ method doesn't actually allow for r:bz2 opening (who knows why... and it's not recommended in general for use by the Python 2.5.1 docs I have locally), but if you call Tarfile.open() instead, then that does and it returns a new Tarfile object. Right now I'm just fixing the tgz() method so it does the right thing when it has a .bz2 instead, but you may wish to rename this method as well Tom Parker diff --git a/debian_bundle/debfile.py b/debian_bundle/debfile.py index df0742e..5b5ff4f 100644 --- a/debian_bundle/debfile.py +++ b/debian_bundle/debfile.py @@ -24,8 +24,9 @@ from arfile import ArFile, ArError from changelog import Changelog from deb822 import Deb822 -DATA_PART = 'data.tar.gz' -CTRL_PART = 'control.tar.gz' +DATA_PART = 'data.tar' +CTRL_PART = 'control.tar' +ALLOWED_ENDINGS = [.gz, .bz2] INFO_PART = 'debian-binary' MAINT_SCRIPTS = ['preinst', 'postinst', 'prerm', 'postrm', 'config'] @@ -64,8 +65,15 @@ class DebPart(object): package. if self.__tgz is None: -gz = gzip.GzipFile(fileobj=self.__member, mode='r') -self.__tgz = tarfile.TarFile(fileobj=gz, mode='r') +if self.__member.name == data.tar.gz: +gz = gzip.GzipFile(fileobj=self.__member, mode='r') +self.__tgz = tarfile.TarFile(fileobj=gz, mode='r') +elif self.__member.name == data.tar.bz2: +# Tarfile's __init__ doesn't allow for r:bz2 modes, but the open() classmethod does... +self.__tgz = tarfile.open(fileobj=self.__member, mode='r:bz2') +else: +raise DebError(Unable to handle %s%self.__member.name) + return self.__tgz @staticmethod @@ -192,16 +200,20 @@ class DebFile(ArFile): def __init__(self, filename=None, mode='r', fileobj=None): ArFile.__init__(self, filename, mode, fileobj) -required_names = set([INFO_PART, CTRL_PART, DATA_PART]) actual_names = set(self.getnames()) -if not (required_names = actual_names): -raise DebError( -the following required .deb members are missing: \ -+ string.join(required_names - actual_names)) - +if INFO_PART not in actual_names: +raise DebError(%s is missing from the .deb %INFO_PART) self.__parts = {} -self.__parts[CTRL_PART] = DebControl(self.getmember(CTRL_PART)) -self.__parts[DATA_PART] = DebData(self.getmember(DATA_PART)) +for name in (CTRL_PART,DATA_PART): +for possible in actual_names: +if possible.find(name)==0 and possible[len(name):] in ALLOWED_ENDINGS: +self.__parts[name] = possible # temporary storage of correct name +break +else: +raise DebError(A %s* file is missing from the .deb %name) + +self.__parts[CTRL_PART] = DebControl(self.getmember(self.__parts[CTRL_PART])) +self.__parts[DATA_PART] = DebData(self.getmember(self.__parts[DATA_PART])) self.__pkgname = None # updated lazily by __updatePkgName f = self.getmember(INFO_PART)

Bug#495822: [Pkg-scicomp-devel] Bug#495822: paraview: Needs specific version of ffmpeg
2008/8/20 Ondrej Certik [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Could you please tell us which version of ffmpeg do you have? I just built paraview in Debian couple days ago and cannot reproduce this. The Ubuntu package appears to be an CVS snapshot from 20060823 (probably very similar to the same dated version in etch). More bizarrely, I've been looking at ffmpeg SVN for the relevant header (http://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk/libavformat/avio.h?view=annotate) and it looks like it's had that function signature from the beginning! I did also find another bug report upstream to paraview (http://www.paraview.org/pipermail/paraview/2008-July/008852.html) which seems to indicate that there are other people having issues with this (and that was on a Debian Etch machine). Bug#495822: [Pkg-scicomp-devel] Bug#495822: paraview: Needs specific version of ffmpeg
2008/8/21 Ondrej Certik [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Thanks for the info. Is there something we can do with this in Debian unstable? I understand that there are problems in other systems, but unless we can reproduce it in Debian sid, we cannot help much. Tried doing this on a Debian machine (mix of various stable/testing/unstable) and couldn't initially reproduce it. However, I've manage to notice that the particular data structure being used is actually an FFMPEG one, and that this data structure format gets changed at http://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk/libavformat/avformat.h?view=diffr1=11070r2=11071 which is on 2007-11-21 and this allowed me to narrow things down. Specifically, paraview will FTBFS on versions of libavformat-dev before that (e.g. the 0.cvs20060823-8 in etch and the version I had earlier in Ubuntu) but should be ok (certainly won't fail in this way) with later versions. This isn't critical for Debian testing or unstable systems, but something noting this would be of use to backporters like myself. Thanks! Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.22.1.3-2 Building gets me the following: /data/tparker/builder/sources/gnome-panel_2.22.1.3-2/applets/clock/calendar-client.c:668: undefined reference to `e_source_peek_color_spec' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[6]: *** [libclock-applet.la] Error 1 make[6]: Leaving directory `/data/tparker/builder/sources/gnome-panel_2.22.1.3-2/applets/clock' According to the evolution-data-server changelog (http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/evolution-data-server/trunk/ChangeLog?revision=8948view=markup) that bit of API was commited on 2007-04-01 and the first released version after that would be 1.11.2, so the libedataserver1.2-dev dep needs to be raised to at least that from the current value of 1.2. The configure.in says gnome-panel only needs edataserver 1.2, but upstream doesn't have the 10_appointment_colors.patch which uses the new API. Bug#472551: gnome-applets-data *requires* mktemp for postinst
2008/4/24 Daniel Burrows [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Could you please post the exact command you used to reproduce this? It looks to me like aptitude prompts later than it ought to, but it does prompt. I was using the curses interface. I've confirmed that aptitude remove mktemp does correctly prompt me, but removing it from the curses interface doesn't prompt me at all. This is using aptitude 0.4.11.2-1. Tom -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#472551: gnome-applets-data *requires* mktemp for postinst
2008/4/23 Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED]: mktemp *is* essential, so things should just work without a dependency. Could you sum up how when you installed your system and how you upgraded it? Installed from Etch 4.0r2 DVDs a little while back. Using a mix of stable,testing,unstable and experimental packages. Been upgrading with aptitude mostly, and as I've just noticed (using aptitude 0.4.11.1-1 to uninstall mktemp) it will let you quite happily uninstall Essential packages without so much as a are you really sure you want to do this?. The console output says: dpkg - warning, overriding problem because --force enabled: This is an essential package - it should not be removed. (Reading database ... 115481 files and directories currently installed.) Removing mktemp ... but, if you're changing lots of stuff at once that's easy to miss and there wasn't any prompt (beyond the standard stuff, and nothing to indicate you were removing something vital) BTW, got confused because I just saw the Priority: required and not the Essential: yes field and so didn't realise that Essential was a separate field in its own right.
