Any update on this request?

I would love to see it packaged. Debates about whether it should replace
mysql should be done later so we can get the package as fast as possible.

Bug#151820: gethostname() seems to work on wheezy/sid but is not in the default dhclient.conf config.

2012-04-09 Thread William Schaub

Would it be possible to add the following line to /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf?

send host-name = gethostname();

that should solve this bug in testing and unstable.

Bug#664880: php-apc: APC not working very well under 5.4 (at least using mpm-itk)

2012-03-28 Thread William Dauchy
Package: php-apc
Version: 3.1.9-0.1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #664880

I also have the same troubles.
see upstream bug #61246
https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=61246

I tested with the last revision of apc (r324329 in my case); it fixes the
problem.
Maybe we should consider packaging the last revision since php-apc is not
usable with php5.4.

Bug#665824: [Aptitude-devel] Bug#665824: possibility for the user to mark installed packages with some kind of text

2012-03-27 Thread William

Hi,
thanks for your answer.

$ : non root prompt
# : root prompt

- Problem using add-user-tag :
the following command does not complain (in non root prompt). I have no
special multi-arch system (AFAIK) :

$ aptitude add-user-tag test emacs
then the following command does not succeed (gives nothing) :
$ aptitude search '?user-tag(test)'
To make it work, I need to be root. Which is ok, but I should have
received a warning or an error, right?

As root :
# aptitude add-user-tag test emacs
then no mater root or not, it works :
$ aptitude search '?user-tag(test)'

- get a command to list active user tags, such as :
$ aptitude show-user-tags
or :
$ aptitude show user-tag

- get a command to search packages and see their tags :
$ aptitude search em
i emacs test,foo
i emfoo bar
i barem other-tag

Thanks a lot for your answer. The given command gives 1225 packages :

$ aptitude search '~i!~M'

In my case, such a list is clearly not manageable! The ubuntu command :

aptitude search
'~i!~M(!~tubuntu-desktop!~tminimal!~tstandard!~tprint-server)(!~n^grub$!~n^linux-!~n^aspell$!~n^openoffice.org-l10n-common$((!~n-fr$!~n-fr-)|~ndoc-fr$))'

gives 103 packages, which starts to become manageable!
So, clearly, having a command such as this one, given in the man page, that
would give the 103 packages, would be very interesting :

$ aptitude search ~user

But I can fully understand that aptitude is not able to do it. Indeed, that
would require a definition of what is from the distribution and what is not,
which does not seam easy.

The old style tasks have been phased out and replaced by meta-packages
with names beginning with task-. As a result of this it is now
possible to have the dependencies of a task marked as automatically
installed and thus most of the clutter in your preferred search
(!~tubuntu-desktop etc.) will no longer be needed. However, if you had
upgraded from an older system it is likely you will have to select each
task that is installed and mark the dependencies before this is useful.
I don't believe it will be worth anyone's effort to attempt to define a
distribution/non-distribution distinction between packages.

However, if you had upgraded from an older system it is likely you will
have to select each task that is installed and mark the dependencies
before this is useful : Could you please be more specific on the
commands to run ?

- with all your combined answers, I will try to update the debian wiki
with a few well thought commands...

Thanks,

William

Bug#661423: flashplugin-nonfree: installing flash causes icewheasel to stop making sound

2012-02-26 Thread Dick William Thomas
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:2.8.3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

all other audio is working fine on the system e.g i could play music normally
just no flash audio so this isn't a normal audio problem

   * What led up to the situation?
reinstalled wheezy from weekly dvd ISO and installed flash
visited youtube and tried to play a video in the terminal
this was output over and over
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open
slave
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open
slave
there was no audio but the video played as normal

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
removing flash fixed the problem as the browser used gnash.
gnash worked poorly but worked

tried removing gnash and just having flash but still same problem

installed flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound and this removed the cli error about
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
but still no audio
   * What was the outcome of this action?
fixed audio but ddin't have adobe-flash any more when just using gnash

I have reinstalled a fresh wheezy ~5 times thinking I had messed up on various
machines and the problem is still here

Bug#660183: kdenlive: rendered video haslost red when taken some sources

2012-02-17 Thread Dick William Thomas
Package: kdenlive
Version: 0.8.2.1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * I've been using kdenlive or months with out issue and today reinstalled
wheezy with out debian multimedia repo as I wanted a more pure debian also
ffmpeg now support x264
I've found video's rendered from a source that has a windowed screen capture
are green

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I recorded two videos using ffmpeg then rendered them one after the
other in a single video 1/2 the video has normal colour but the windows part is
lost it's red.

I think the problem is melt as I also tried it with openshot and it had the
same outcome
and when kdenlive is run from the command line the out put says it's sending it
to melt

I recoreded the videos using
#FULL SCREEN
ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s $(xwininfo -root | grep
'geometry' | awk '{print $2;}') -i :0.0+0,0 -acodec libvorbis -ab 128k -ac 2
-vcodec libx264 -crf 0 -threads 0 -baseName-fullscreen.avi

#WINDOWED
INFO=$(xwininfo -frame)
WIN_GEO=$(echo $INFO | grep -oEe 'geometry [0-9]+x[0-9]+' | grep -oEe
'[0-9]+x[0-9]+')
WIN_XY=$(echo $INFO | grep -oEe 'Corners:\s+\+[0-9]+\+[0-9]+' | grep -oEe
'[0-9]+\+[0-9]+' | sed -e 's/\+/,/' )
 ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s $WIN_GEO -i :0.0+$WIN_XY
-acodec libvorbis -ab 128k -ac 2 -vcodec libx264 -vf scale=720:432 -threads 0
-y baseName-windowed.avi

the output is in this download along with the rendered finish product

Bug#660069: gnome-shell: pressing super key and typing causes gnome-shell to restart

2012-02-15 Thread Dick William Thomas
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.2.2.1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
upgraded test machine to sid for bug testing
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Pressing super (win key) then typing rec to find the sound recorder
would cause the gnome shell to restart
if i just use my mouse it works
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected the app menu to search for programs with rec in the name

it may be worth noting on my desktop (non testing machine) it works
perfectly this is running debian wheezy

I don't know how to get debug info from gnome re the crash but if you can point
me in the right direction I will add extra info

Bug#658255: contrib script check_snmp_disk_monitor.pl ignores warn and crit levels

2012-02-01 Thread William Hopkins
Package: nagios-plugins
Source: nagios-plugins
Version: 1.4.15
Tags: patch

contrib script check_snmp_disk_monitor.pl ignores valid warning and
critical levels supplied via arguments -w, -c, --warning or
--critical. Bug appears to be related to coding error. I attempted to
contact the listed author but received a mailhost error.
I have filed this against the source package because none of the
binary packages list this file as installed. If it would be more
appropriate for me to file upstream, let me know.

diff attached.

Bug#500558: Apache fails to start..

2011-12-29 Thread william felipe_welter
I can reproduce this behavior out of boot on Squeeze..
The error occurs when you have one interface that only have IPv6
address ( this happen if you call dhclient on some interface that has
no link ) and have one directive listen with IPv4 address ( even if
is the loopback address) on the ports.conf.

Simple way to reproduce (with apache stoped):
1) Edit the ports.conf with: listen 127.0.0.1:80
2) Remove the network cable and execute: dhclient
3) Kill the dhclient with CTRL+C
4) Execute ifconfig to confirm that your iface now have a IPv6 address
5) Try to start apache2

I will try to debug why apache turn in error even if have my loopback
has IPv4 address.

Weird. Stephen et al: any ideas?

Yeah I suspect I know what's going on. There was some code

in hpaaculi which was asking the question Is this a 2.4 kernel?

Or is this a 2.6 kernel? It didn't consider the possibility of

a 3.x kernel, and in the face of a 3.x kernel, it just kind of

Pretty sure this bug is fixed in a released version of hpacucli

because rhel6.1 uses a 3.x kernel, and I know we support that.

Bill Kilcoyne might know the specifics.

RHEL 6 will be sticking with what is nominally version 2.6.32, although

RH continues to backport large changes from later versions. The first

stable distribution with a 3.x kernel will presumably be Ubuntu 11.10

Stable update 3.0.4 added a process personality flag that causes the

kernel to report version numbers beginning '2.6.', and the 'setarch'

command in util-linux has been updated to allow setting this flag.

However. neither Debian nor Ubuntu has this new version of util-linux

yet.

It's sles11 sp2 that uses a 3.0.x kernel.

D-Bus is not discontinued. (Perhaps you meant HAL?)

Yes, my mistake

This FTBFS appears to be caused by the multiarch transition: hwinfo wrongly
hard-codes the CFLAGS for libdbus (which changed in dbus 1.4.12-3, and in
recent Ubuntu versions too). It should ask pkg-config, which would work
regardless of D-Bus version (and installed location, for that matter).

I understood

Please forward this patch upstream - ideally they should be using
pkg-config --libs for both D-Bus and HAL too, rather than hard-coding
-ldbus-1 and -lhal, but that's less likely to fail randomly.

Thanks for your review and help, I'll update the package ASAP

 Regards,
    Simon

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes

Bug#631213: O: arp-scan -- arp scanning and fingerprinting tool

a lack of any pressing need to upgrade the version in Debian, along with the

for too long.  If other people are interested in (co-)maintaining it then
great but I'm more than happy to continue.  FWIW of the 3 ourstanding bugs 1
relates to the release of 1.7 (which didn't IMO add any pressing features) and
1 related to a change to support a shared OUI database (which floundered with
 a
lack of interest from all packagers not just myself).  The 3rd was only filed
last week and is one that I could fix fairly quickly if I had a sponsor.

I took the package and I have a ITA open[0], I have a package in
mentors.d.n waiting to be uploaded and am awaiting the response from
the upstream about a error in the new version compilation.
I see you've renamed the this bug, are you still interested in
maintaining the package?

Bug#573365: dsniff: urlsnarf always shows the current time, even when reading from a pcap file.

I just tried the patch with version 2.4b1+debian-20. Works for me, the
trick is to apply all the other patches first. This is what I did after
remembering how to fight and beat dpatch:

 $ dpatch-edit-patch patch --add2list --description=urlsnarf: use timestamps
from pcap file if available. Closes: #573365 23_urlsnarf_timestamp
 22_handlepp

In the temporary directory, I just applied my patch that I had posted to
 the BTS:

 $ patch -p1 urlsnarf.c  ~/src/deb/dsniff/dsniff.patch
 $ exit

I have attached the patch file
 (debian/patches/23_urlsnarf_timestamp.dpatch) that was generated. Note
that it also needs to be added to debian/patches/00list.

Attached, you can see at:

 I hope this helps.

Thanks :)

Bug#627580: nsd3 postrm script leaves entries in /var/lib/dpkg/statoverride

2011-05-22 Thread William Shallum
Package: nsd3
Version: 3.2.5-1
Severity: normal

The nsd3 postrm script removes the nsd user before running
dpkg-statoverride --remove. This causes the dpkg-statoverride
--remove to fail and leave the nsd lines in /var/lib/dpkg/statoverride
causing subsequent calls to dpkg-statoverride to fail.

When run manually the error is:

# dpkg-statoverride --remove /var/lib/nsd3
dpkg-statoverride: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
syntax error: unknown user 'nsd' in statoverride file

Maybe the remove call should be run before removing the user?

While the change shown below in 1:2.6.2-1 fixes Bug#447040 as claimed in

because the ERROR: configuration specifies 'use_bayes 0', sa-learn

Bug#614182: calc and writer crash on close if tools|macros|run macro was opened

2011-05-16 Thread William Whalley
I can confirm that the bug happens just as Alex posted--under some
conditions.

On one Debian wheezy system running LibreOffice version 1:3.3.2-2 I see
the bug. This Debian was updated from squeeze. When Tools/Macro/Run
Macro is used to invoke the macro, the macro runs, and LibreOffice
crashes when exited. When the macro is invoked from a push button
control or from Tools/Macros/Organize Macros/LibreOffice Base, there is
no crash on exit.

On another Debian wheezy system, installed fresh in Virtualbox within
the past few weeks, and kept up to date, I do not see the bug. This also
has LibreOffice version 1:3.3.2-2.

Bug#572841: postfix: smtpd crash with signal 6 when using ldap with starttls for domain maps lookup

2011-04-25 Thread William Ono
When trying to add start_tls = yes to the /etc/postfix/ldap.cf it makes
smtpd crash when the server receive a RCPT TO message from the client
(can be tested with netcat or telnet to simulate an SMTP exchange
 between a client and postfix).

This appears to be the problem discussed in

Bug#623455: cron: postinst script aborts on dpkg-maintscript-helper invocation

2011-04-20 Thread William Steve Applegate
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-116
Severity: normal

Calling dpkg-reconfigure(8) on the cron package fails because of the
dpkg-maintscript-helper invocation contained within the postinst script. This
is particularly annoying since a `dpkg-reconfigure -a' will abruptly stop
without telling the user it was cron who caused the error.

root@winterfell:~# dpkg-reconfigure cron
Stopping periodic command scheduler: cron.
insserv: warning: current stop runlevel(s) (1) of script `cron' overwrites
defaults (empty).
dpkg-maintscript-helper: error: couldn't identify the package

Disabling the call to dpkg-maintscript-helper seems to work around the issue
(until the next package update, that is):

root@winterfell:~# sed -ir 's/^\(dpkg-maintscript-helper\)/#\1/'
/var/lib/dpkg/info/cron.postinst
root@winterfell:~# dpkg-reconfigure cron
Stopping periodic command scheduler: cron failed!

Bug#389563: Config files

2011-04-12 Thread william welter
I have not rebooted the computer after installation of pcscd and opensc.
The directory /var/run/openct does not exist!

This is the correct behavior.. The /var/run/openct will be here only if you
install openct package.
Pcsc and OpenCt are two softwares for same thing, Card Reader Driver Layer.
You can use pcsc, openct, or both, but i recommends use only one.

Example using the opensc-tool:

This errors messages are easily removed if you find the option

Some suggest to package maintainer:
Include OpenCt or pcscd on the deps of OpenSc package (Depends: pcscd | openct )
On the postinst edit reader_drivers on opensc.conf depending on what package
are installed.

Bug#616608: regression, scrot -s fails via keybinding again

2011-04-10 Thread William Vera
Hello!

Years ago scrot had a trouble with the '--select' option via keybinding, then
 was gone.
Now is come back, via command line works fine but not anymore with fluxbox
 keys
(I don't know with other WM).
When i press the keys (Shift Print), in ~/.xsession-errors i can see
giblib error: couldn't grab keyboard:Resource temporarily unavailable

Here I have found a dirty workaround, see the last post and the first in the
 second page
 http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=35244

 so now it works with:
xmessage 'screenshot' -center -timeout 1 scrot -s -b
 shot_%d-%m-%y_%H.%M.%S.png

I'm not sure if that is strictly related to scrot, but it seems it needs to
 wake up
 before taking the shot.

I did some tests with Gnome and Fluxbox and it seems that it is not
proper to scrot problem.
However I have sent an email to the upstream to give us their views.
Thanks for your report

 ciao

Greetings!

Bug#617319: Toolbars in Base

2011-03-19 Thread William Whalley

I also see this bug. I installed LibreOffice using Synaptic.

The bug was present in a launchpad PPA in Ubuntu, but that has been
fixed for weeks (at least the lucid version; the maverick version also
had it but has apparently been abandoned).

The bug is not present in the tarball downloaded from the LibreOffice
web site. I have that running on Debian lenny. That version shows

LibreOffice 3.3.1
OOO330m19 (Build:8)
log libreoffice-3.3.1.2

The Debian version is
LibreOffice 3.3.1
OOO330m19 (Build:8)
log libreoffice-3.3.1.2, Debian Package 1:3.3.1-1

Thus it appears, despite the version numbering, that the Debian version
has an older version of some part of the package.

I am disappointed that Debian's LibreOffice forced the uninstall of
OpenOffice. The LibreOffice web site version installs alongside OpenOffice.

In what version? With what change? I bet that is just a side-effect on

The only notes I have on past versions is this:I installed Libreoffice
RC2 from a ubuntu depository in ubuntu running in a virtualboxose

screwed up. It could have been under ubuntu 10.04 and/or maverick; I

Yes, it could be a side effect, but it exists, at least for me in Debian

Wrong.
You're right, that was an assumption on my part, but something is

There's no OpenOffice. And that they are not installable alongside is a given
fact given ghat the LibreOffice website version is not completely integrated
into Debian, whereas Debian's LibreOffice is. LibreOffice is the future and
Debian will only ship that one, live with it.

I have no problem switching to LibreOffice. I just wish the current

Wrong.

To elobarate a bit: we use the real LibreOffice 3.3.1 without much patches.
Ubuntu doesn't have such patches either from what I can see. They just patch
working stuff out, do nonsensical build changes and make human theme default.

Nothing which IMHO could explain this bug.

*If* it was theme related, what -style-* you have installed in what desktop env?
Does it help when you install other ones? (Like tango?)

Grüße/Regards,

René

Looks like I have tango installed on my wheezy gnome system (gnome
version 2.30.2)

libreoffice-style-tango, installed version 1:3.3.1-1
but tango-icon-theme is not installed.

I don't seem to have a libreoffice style installed on squeeze. This
version is working. It came from the libreoffice web site.

The version I have running on ubuntu 10.10 in virtualboxose and which
exhibits the bug is

LibreOffice 3.3.1
OOO330m19 (Build:8)
tag libreoffice-3.3.1.2, Ubuntu package 1:3.3.1-1ubuntu3~maverick1
It has the libreoffice-style-tango package installed. That's also in gnome.

I also have libreoffice 3.3.0
OOO330m19 (Build:6)
tag libreoffice-3.3.0.4
running on ubuntu lucid 10.04 in virtualboxose
It works ok. I believe I also got it from the libreoffice web site.

And why did you complain then?

Because my system exhibits a bug, and I wished to help fix it.

(Besides that I personally think using Base for anything serious is a
bug per se, but...)

Base works OK for my application and also acts as a front end to e.g. MySQL.

Bug#591911: Me too

Hello,

I experienced the same behaviour in Squeeze after a my first

unchecking the Portaudio option from the I/O tab, in the

Bug#607783: didiwiki: Please replace current Didiwiki 0.5 with Amigo's 0.8 Didiwiki from the PuppyLinux project

2010-12-21 Thread William Hales
Package: didiwiki
Version: 0.5-9
Severity: wishlist

Work by the original author has stopped, and the package is ageing.

A much improved version was released on the PuppyLinux forums for their distro
that adds new features, namely:
 * Ability to delete pages via web UI
 * An index page listing all didiwiki pages, even those 'orphaned' ( not linked
to by others )
 * An edit preview capability

See http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=47185

The Debian 'didiwiki' in my humble opinion should adopt user Amigo's variation.
As far as I know there are no other forks of Didiwiki and no features have been
removed in Amigo's '0.8' version, so it should be safe to do so. The only
other option is just to leave it as it is, stale at 0.5.

Didiwiki is such a great piece of personal wiki software and it deserves some
attention. It is great for home LANs where permissions/security ( or the lack
thereof in DidiWiki ) are not a problem.

Either way, this bug hasn't occurred for me at all.

Bug#577092: There is still a UFO in the game.

2010-12-14 Thread William Shipley
There is still a UFO in the game, the flying saucer that hogs fly around in.
True, the one it was referring to was probably the one replaced by the
homing bee, but since one still exists, there is no real reason to change it
IMO.

The reason they changed it to a homing bee probably had something to do with
the fact that there were two UFOs in the game, as well.

Bug#469318: This bug is still around....

2010-12-14 Thread William Shipley
This bug is still present in 0.3.3-6, although it should really be added
to the wishlist area, not in bugs. The fact is, this is something that would
take some effort to put in, not just a simple patch-in. Of course, it is a
reasonable request, and would be quite useful.

Bug#557092: sorry

2010-12-14 Thread William Shipley
Ignore these two posts. I typed the number wrong XD

Bug#544413: I can't reproduce this.

2010-12-14 Thread William Shipley
i used version 1.510-2.2+b1 (same version? not sure if you left off the b1
or if this is an update) and saved the config files after deleting the
.zsnes, but it simply recreated it. It might be that you have remnants left
over from older versions causing you problems, but I can't reproduce this
problem.

I'm not quite sure what's the point. The Xfce environment installed for
Squeeze only ships a default, basic desktop environment, including the
usually useful applications on top of Xfce. This means an office suite,
a browser and a media player, but then we expect our users to select
themselves the tools fitting their needs.

Xfce point is not to provide everything and the kitchen's sink (GNOME
and KDE are more about providing a *full* DE), but rather to be modular.
There are some tools which are expected by an user to be installed, but
I don't think a calc is really part of that.

 Regards,

Wow, I expected Debian bug mailing lists to take days to have responses.
Thanks Yves-Alexis

I see where you are coming from. Keeping meta-packages simple also
AFAIK stops everything being marked for removal when one component
package is removed by the user.

Regards, William

Bug#508762: This bug isn't part of the game

2010-12-12 Thread William Shipley
I tested with the same version, and it works just fine.it's probably a
bug with something else in your computer.

Bug#596810: this bug doesn't occur for me

2010-12-12 Thread William Shipley
I used xterm, but if I resized it to squash the bar sideways or vertically,
and then stretched it back out, it simply brought it back to normal.
shrinking it too much vertically (1 or 2 lines) causes nano to close, saying
there's no room.

same nano version too, but I don't know what version of xterm you're using.
I'm using the latest version in the testing repo.

2010-12-12 Thread William Shipley
This bug is fixed in nano 2.2.4-1, so I recommend that, if you haven't
already, upgrade to the latest version.

Bug#604078: 604078 Problem resolved

2010-12-02 Thread William Julian
I posted this a few minutes ago on the Debian forum:

As noted above I did post a bug report on the failure of update-grub to
configure the grub menu properly.

I recently tried removing and reinstalling grub2 once again. (I had done
this several times earlier with no success.)

As I watched the version numbers were the same, 1.98 in both cases, but the
number following the + sign was different.

So the new grub2 is 1.98+20100b04-10

Frankly I have no idea what that means. What I do know is that I once again
let grub2 produce yet another grub, cfg and voila! Suddenly I have a properly
listed Grub2 menu! The titles are correct and everything works.

There have been no other changes on my system other than to remove and
reinstall grub2 one more time.

I can only conjecture because I do not know enough to be insightful. I
suspect the dev team working on grub2 has made some subtle changes and those
may have resolved the situation?
