Bug#385366: Bug#386989: PageFlip causes graphic freezes after a while

I will keep this setting now for a while and see if it is indeed stable. So I guess that bug #385366 might be fixed. Bug #386989 needs some more testing with 3D apps. Bad news. I just ran google earth and shortly after, while doing some aggressive window-swapping, it crashed with the usual symptoms. Note that while switching, metacity draws white borders around windows using probably the same technique as OSD. Without PageFlip, this seems to be stable. This is without any packages from experimental. I will try that some other time. Is this issue still reproducible with mesa 7.7 or 7.8? I have a new machine by now, so unfortunately, I can not help you here. Hi Joachim, Since you seem to have an AGP board, you might want to try adding Option BusType PCI to the Device section of your xorg.conf. It will make X use a regular PCI mode and thus might workaround some broken AGP bridges. Also playing with the AGP mode in the BIOS could help. Apart from that, there's a libgl1-mesa-dri 7.0.1 and xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.6.193 in experimental, in case it helps for any of your bugs. Ok I'll wait a couple weeks and close them both if I don't hear back from you. By the way: Which setting is supposed to be better (as in faster)? PageFlip on or off? What from I understand, it's something like PageFlip improves 3D but hurts 2D... Hi, because of the probably related bug 385366 I’ve disabled PageFlip, because it is my work machine and I’d rather avoid crashes. I could reconfirm that bug with the current version, though. After my last message there (16.3.), I disabled PageFlip and had neither a spurious crash nor a crash with osd. I wonder why I’m the only one observing this. Am I the only one with a T41p that had PageFlip Enabled or is it something else? I doubt you're the only one, it's probably just that the specific circumstances (page flipping, OSD on top of GL windows) are rare. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer | http://tungstengraphics.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer
Bug#386989: PageFlip causes graphic freezes after a while
Hi Joachim, Is there anything new about PageFlip causing freeze after a while? Did you try the latest Xorg/ATI-Driver/Mesa/Etch? If it still freezes, could you try the packages that are currently in experimental (xserver-xorg-core 2:1.2.0-3 and mesa 6.5.2-3). PageFlip has been known to be dangerous for a while (there's even a wishlist to explicitely mark it as dangerous)... Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. They run windowed and it might have been longer until it crashed back then, but the bug might have been solved. I’d keep the bug tagged unreproducable for another while and I’ll try remember to follow up if observe another freeze, ok? That would be great, thanks. Brice
