While I see this as a valid use-case I think this is a feature for lenny+1.
For lenny I'd suggest to document how to do manual partitioning of

No. It just makes this problem more obvious :)

from debian/changelog

  * Install munin-node gracefully (ie. inside a chroot, where port 4949 is
bound to another munin-node already) : munin-node.postinst: don't exit
postinst with error if just munin-node-configure fails. debian/rules: use
dh_installinit with --error-handler=true. (Closes: #491130)

I recommend setting this bug as blocked by the other bug, or
 reassign it.

They are not really related, munin(-node) should configure and install just
fine if /proc or /dev/null is not available.

  running rarpd.

That fai works perfectly fine on all archs (at least for softupdates) doesnt
invalidate the fact that fai-quickstart only works on i386+amd64...

And the package is also not installable on all other archs except those two,
which is also at least ugly.

 Anyway, the package currently does
 the following only:

  * by depending on further packages pulls in all required packages
  * copy example config files from /usr/share/doc/fai-doc to /etc/fai

All of that could be described in the guide as well, so I don't see any
reason why we should keep this package. The appropriate section in the
guide could be titled FAI quickstart so it could easily be referenced
 - just like the package.

I like that :-)

ok, no problem. Crap happens :)

I think that only $SERVER remains relevant in case of softupdates, because
it should suffice to do the operations guarded by $IPADDR once, at install
 time.

Yup, not touching the network configuration during softupdates is sensible
IMO, and what I have always been doing in my configspaces.

Automatically determining the proper value of $SERVER in case of
softupdates seems to be impossible, because of the various options for
 get-config-dir-*.

I'm not really sure this is _impossible_, maybe it's hard but...

I'd suggest that we add a note to the documentation
instead, probably around sect id=isavelogSave log filesp. It should
state that both, $LOGSERVER and $monserver, must be manually defined in
 case of softupdates for
savelog/monitoring to remote hosts to work.

In the tasks chboot and savelog, a connection using secure shell is opened
to the FAI server (cf. add reference to isavelog). To ensure that this
 works non-interactively, a proper entry in NFSROOT/root/.ssh/known_hosts
must be created. When using fai-setup, this is done automatically, but it
may require manual editing in case the name of your FAI server was not
determined correctly. If you stumble over ssh connections that require
typing yes to accept the host key during installation, please check the
 contents of your

I'd really suggest we add this small piece of documentation to the FAI

reassign 388065 cups
tags 388065 +upstream

Hi,

based on the assumption that a bug report titled My PC should warn me when I
try to shut down while my printer is still printing clearly assumes (My
PC) a default printing environment on a default desktop install (which is
cups) and that bugs originating from packages should be assigned to those,
I'm reassigning this to cups. (So that the cups maintainers (maybe)
reassign/clone this to further printing frontends.)

I wrote the above paragraph without reading the actual bug report, then I
thought wait, re-read it, there must be something in there otherwise you
would just reassign and so I re-read the bug report.

After I've now done so, I still think reassigning to cups (and then clone and
assigning the clones to kdm, gnome and xfce and keeping this bug to track the
others) is sensible.

I've tagged this bug upstream too. ;-)

2008-09-11 Thread Holger Levsen
reassign 457839 perl

Hi,

my understanding on this is based on reading the bug report. I'm not fully
sure if this issue has been closed with perl 5.10 or if seperate bug reports
for all effected manpages are useful. (I think the former but leave it to the
perl maintainers to confirm.)

Hi,

reassigning to lintian, because a.) I think thats right and b.) I dont

Probably this is already implemented (a check that two binary packages from
one source package have exactly the same description) and you can close this
bug right away.

Well, yes and no. It (not being fixed) prevents (blocks) that those issues

I ran /etc/init.d/readahead stop and nothing in /etc/readahead/ was updated.

Bug#458879: debian-edu-doc FTBFS but only in sid not in etch

Hi Andreas,

On Saturday 09 February 2008 22:00, Andreas Hoenen wrote:

#451267), I have patched dblatex (beginning with 0.2.8-1) to
postvalidate the DocBook input in case of transformation failures and to
pass through the validation error messages to the caller [1]. Thus for
invalid DocBook input the user will receive a meaningful error message
in addition to the sometimes strange technical error description.

Sounds good :)

Unfortunately my patch hangs on huge amounts of xmllint error output
(and itil.xml is very invalid: 732938 bytes of validation failure
 messages).

Unfortunatly it's not really simple to fix this: it's auto-generated by
moinmoins docbook export module (so the source for itil.xml is a wiki), and
this module is currently not maintained upstream in moinmoin. (See the
moinmoin wiki for more info if you interested.)

I will fix this bug in the next debian dblatex release which I'm
 preparing currently.

/me looks at
http://packages.qa.debian.org/d/dblatex/news/20080211T040203Z.html
and cheers!

However, even without the postvalidation hanging the current versions of
dblatex respectively xsltproc are just unable to transform itil.xml.
Sorry, invalid input sometimes is handled properly, but only in lucky
 cases.

/me nods, just experienced this :(

I guess I will have to switch to openjade then and set the errorlimit to
1, like I already do for the html version...

And the long term solution is to fix moinmoins docbook export.

Holger

I orphaned the package just a few days ago, so please wait a little bit

Why? Did you look at http://bugs.debian.org/230358 ? The package does not work
at all with a 2.6 kernel. A 2.4 kernel was last shipped with sarge, so there
is absolutly no point in keeping it any day longer in sid.

Normally package removals should not be requested before two months since
the package has been orphaned. In the case of this package I'll request its

 Sure it is :)

Cheers :)

(I didn't really think (at all) you were objecting to this, I just had to make
that point :)

But if you re-read the bug report you will see that the necessary
changes to fix it aren't many (but I should probably reconsider that
because of /proc not existing in newer kernels, starting with .24?)

Yet, noone has done it for four years. Also I dont think it would be that
easy... and anyway: IPX is mostly dead and those still using it have probably
old boxes running it already...

I've already requested its removal from stable :)

Then I really dont understand why you wait with removing it from sid. Anybody
interested to pick it up can get it from various archives...

I don't see any real problem on keeping this report a few more days on
wnpp to give people the opportunity to see it is up for adoption.

They had this chance for 4 years.

IMO some people prefer to fix an existing package than to 'Debianise'
from scratch, hence my desire to keep it a few more days.
But if you believe it really makes no sense at all to keep the report
open on wnpp feel free to reassign it to ftp.debian.org with a correct
removal request subject and CC me so I update packages-actions.txt

I'll leave this to you :-)

word lists are only editable in /usr which as the submitter said, will make
them overwritten on upgrades...

You would have seen this if you just would have tried the edit wordlists
menu item in the programm _once_, it directly says this feature is not ready

 and in addition, the package
is localized into a number of different languages, including German.
(In the source package, tuxtype/data/themes/deutsch/words/ contains six
files of German words, rated for different levels in the games.) The
upstream ChangeLog appears to indicate that localization was introduced
 in version 1.0pre1.

Not relevant to this bug report.

I'm suggesting that this bug could be closed, although I leave the final

I think so too and suggest to build the munin-plugins-contrib package per
default and sticks those in there.

We should define a minimal policy / guidelines for all plugins though, like:

- at least two maintainers agree to include it and not two (or one?) are

- no bashism, all shell plugins must work with dash too

- whatnot :-D

severity 311188 important
thanks

Hi,

at the Debian Edu developer gathering in Narvik we once again discussed
#311188 and came to the conclusion, that we would like to downgrade it to
important, as debian-edu-config only does these changes if told so by the
admin (by running the script or using the debian-edu installation cds or
preseeding a hidden debconf question).

If debian-edu-config gets installed on a normal system, nothing (bad) happens,
'apt-get install debian-edu-config' (alone) will not mess with policy.

With a severity of important the package will into testing and allow us
easiier and better testing for lenny.

We still plan to fix this bug (and deal with all the blockers) til lenny! See
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Bug311188 for a summary of the status.

This course of action has been agreed on #debian-release too :)

LIBDIR =$(DESTDIR)$(shell if [ $(ARCH)  = x86_64 -a -d /usr/lib64
]; then echo /usr/lib64; else echo /usr/lib; fi)

To fix http://bugs.debian.org/461604 I'll patch it to:

LIBDIR =$(DESTDIR)/usr/lib

I guess this is generally useful and the above is some
leftover from the early amd64 days. But I don't have an
amd64, so I have no idea ;-)

The current version has an includefile option which you can use for

Where is that option described? I checked man ntp.conf and man ntpd but

Also, wouldnt we still need to modify a configfile to use that option?

Bug#458879: debian-edu-doc FTBFS but only in sid not in etch

2008-02-07 Thread Holger Levsen

Hi,

http://bugs.debian.org/458879 describes how debian-edu-doc fails to build from
source but only in sid not in etch, and I'm bcc:ing you, the dblatex and
libxml2-utils maintainers, to kindly ask for your help/input/hint as I
have no idea why.

To reproduce: fakeroot apt-get source -b debian-edu-doc in sid :)

It hangs with the following output:
[...]
#
# Build ITIL book
#
dblatex -T simple -o ./documentation/norwegian/itil.pdf
./documentation/norwegian/itil.xml
Build the listings...
XSLT stylesheets DocBook - LaTeX 2e (0.2.8-5)
===
Invalid table entry row=1/column=1 (@colstart)

ps shows the following commands are run, but they consume 0 cpu ressources, so
I think they might wait for some input on stdin?! Strangely on Lucas build,
which caused the bugreport, the build failed after 3 seconds...

18154 pts/4S+ 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/dblatex -T
simple -o ./documentation/norwegian/itil.pdf
/home/holgi/Projects/debian-edu/debian-edu/src/debian-edu-doc/documentation/norwegian/itil.xml
18157 pts/4S+ 0:00 \_ /usr/bin/xmllint --noout --valid
./documentation/norwegian/itil.xml

Do you have an idea what change from etch to sid might have caused this?

I'm not sure it will delay the other jobs, but I figure that if they
waited for a week, they can handle waiting for an hour.

That's not my point. These scripts used to run at a fairly predictable time,
which this patch changes, which might break unrelated software. Thats my

It needs a vte and python-apt from ubuntu/dapper to work. vte needs
a patch to make it not close file descriptors, python-apt needs some
new features.

First question (=important info): does it use apt authentication (secure apt)?

And the confusing part: does it really need vte and python-apt from

You don't need nfsroot compiled into the kernel anymore for nfsroot-like
setups, instead you can mount the root filesystem via nfs from the
initrd-filesystem.

Look at fai 3.2 or directly at (the manpage of) update-initramfs to see how
it's done.

Another option is of course to build your own kernel packages with nfsroot
compiled in - but I seriously doubt you'll need this.

Therefore I tag this bug wontfix. It's also highly unlikely that a kernel
package, which just has nfsroot compiled in, will be accepted into Debian,
due to the high maintainance cost of security updates and because a workable
solution exists.

thanks

Hi,

IMHO * update pointer to manual in syslinux text
(http://bugs.debian.org/283521 ) should be added to
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/LennyGoals

And if #283521 is fixed by pointing to http://www.debian.org/doc/ - the first
link on that points to http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/installmanual -

Three years ago I thought it was better to point to the installation manual.
Today I think it's better to point to _the_ page about documentation for
Debian. For which http://www.debian.org/doc/ IMO qualifies. (That page could
certainly be improved, but that's another issue. And IMO it's better to point
to that page than to the generic www.debian.org.)

And yet another issue is that according to a quick grep only two out of ten
architectures display information about www.debian.org at all... If you agree
with this generic approach to link to the documentation I'm volunteering to
go through all architectures boot messages and suge a paragrah. Also if we
agree on another way :-)

Bug#455214: qa.debian.org: add a usercategory for svnbuildstat on the qa.debian.org BTS pseudo package

2007-12-14 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

More info can be found in the todo-list at wiki.debian.org/piuparts. My idea
is to setup that vm over the weekend...

Holger
