Bug#422615: doesnt support kde in etch?

2007-05-07 Thread Holger Levsen
package: localization-config
version: 1.01

Hi,

in conffiles.d/kde.postinst is the following code:

# Define the version map for kdebase
my %vermap = ( '2.2.2-14.7', = { RELEASE = 'woody' },
   '4:3.2.2-1',  = { RELEASE = 'sarge' }
  );

Which then makes sure that, conffiles.d/$RELEASE/kde is executed.

There is also a conffiles.d/etch/kde but as I understand, it's never executed.

I noticed, because localization-config in debian-edu maps '3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6' to
etch and I wondered what will happen, when there is an upgrade of kdebase. To
me it looks like localization-config then needs to be updated as well - is
that correct?

Or is the above copied code just not been used anymore? Then please retitle
the bug to remove unused code ;)

Etch has been released by now, so... :)

And we need ttf-sil-andika in unstable, to upload tuxtype and tuxmath.

In the meantime, there's been new design reviews released so I'll
adjust the packaging and do some more testing.

Did that happen yet?

Hi,

as this (see below) is the second time in one or two month this is brought up
without a reply, I'm filling a bug now.

I'm in favor of linking to the wiki page (maybe with a small warning, saying
its a wiki page :)

Setting the severity to important, as it really looks bad that there are no
updates on the press page since March 2005.

Hehe :) I hope you had fun!

The updated Andika Debian packaging with the new design review
(including sources) is now available on
 http://yosch.org/packages/debian

The package is now named ttf-sil-andika-desrev to better reflect the
design review status, of course it is still very useful at this stage
but we wanted to make that clearer. (When the more complete Andika is
released when can do a rename).

Hmmm. This means, they will need to go through NEW twice :-/ Wouldn't it be
better (and have the same effect) to note that in the versionnumber and
package description?

Or did you already thought about that and came to the above decission?

How long do you expect will it take until the font becomes final/ready?

 Your sponsorship much appreciated :-)

Ok, waiting for your reply on the above and then I'll go :)

Bug#422225: install_packages uses libapt-pkg-perl even if it doesnt need to

2007-05-04 Thread Holger Levsen
package: fai-client
version: 3.1.8
severity: wishlist

Hi,

fai-client depends on libapt-pkg-perl and the only code that uses it is
install_packages. If used for fai softupdates on a rpm based system, this
depends is not needed, as yum can be used instead of apt.

Basically, instead of

 use AptPkg::Foo;

better use something like:

 evalrequire AptPkg::Foo;
 evalimport AptPkg::Foo;

(For the depends itself, rpm/alien doesnt look at debian/control, but checks
the actual depends of the software installed. With use, it depends on it,
with require+import, it doesn't.)

I am not sure your description is accurate. The problem is the choice
of distribution name in debian/changelog. The build do not accept any
name. Are binary NMUs supposed to use the same dist name, or make up
 their own?

In this case the 'etch-skolelinux' name was used, and there is no
sources.list file for that dist. If the unstable or terra name had
been used, the build would have worked.

Hm. That indeed sounds like debian-edu is not buggy, but the buildd setup...

Anyway, those were the remarks I had at that time and against 0.001-2:

- linda+lintian clean, nice
- feedback period is complete (jan 31 2007) but the description or README
mentions it still... (minor, I would still sponsor it like this, but you
should fix it :)
- licence of the packaging? not mentioned in debian/copyright
- version: 0.0.desrev-2007.05.08-2 / ttf-sil-andika - you said above this is
resolved/changed
- control/description mentions authors, debian/copyright doesnt
- AndikaDevRev(A-G).ttf - are those different fonts or different revisions?

I guess the only issue which really blocks sponsoring is the copyright and
naming stuff, the rest would be nice if you could fix/enhance it.

Can you point me to a new source package? If the blocking stuff is fixed, I'll
upload immediatly this time :-)

regards,
Holger (still sorry for taking so long to send this short mail...)

Ok, fair enough :)

In the meantime, there's been new design reviews released so I'll
adjust the packaging and do some more testing.

design reviews? Updated fonts or reviews of your packaging or..?

Your thoughts on the current packaging welcome.

I just checked out the above URL and only got a debian/ directory. How am I
supposed to build it? ;)

As far as I can say from (briefly) looking at those files without building the
package, the packaging looks good.

Thanks for your sponsorship offer. I'll let you know when the source
 package is ready.

Ok. Any estimate? ;)

Hi,

On Friday 30 September 2005 14:37, Alexander Wagner wrote:

This is not entirely true, you can always use a hook to setup the partitions
manually with a small shell script (see the guide on more for this and have
a look at http://www.layer-acht.org/fai/fai-on-powerpc/ there you'll find a
partition.POWERPC hook)

Without introduction of the right partitioning method fai
should be removed from debian stable's alpha-tree

FAI is an architecture all package, it's not existant as a alpha package :)

You're right though, that setup_harddisk is a bad hack. This is a known issue

There are two options you have here:

 II. a real chroot install

chroot-installs should work in principle, but are not carefully checked. we

If you are really adventurous and want to try something risky:

 0) do a backup of all your data on the machine chosen to host the chroots
(or choose a machine where data-loss doesn't matter)
 1) edit /usr/share/fai/subroutines, comment out the return in the safety
check in line 253
 2) set FAI_ROOT in /etc/fai/fai.conf to the intended destination directory
 3) disable task_partition under all circumstances (otherwise it will
 destroy your running system)
 4) pray it will work=
 5) pray it will work
 6) run '/usr/sbin/fai install'

NOTE: I have succeeded in this once in the last year with my fai fork pfai,
which has been merged into fai now, but as much development has happened in
fai during that time, I don't know if this will work now.

thanks Henning! :-)

Please don't forget to include XEN in the documentaion. It's easy and fancy!

Bug#312296: don't try to install boot loaders on softupdates

2005-06-19 Thread Holger Levsen

Hi,

in the simple examples, the class GRUB is defined for every I386 machine.
If disk_var.sh does not exist (because the machine was not installed with
fai...), running a fai softupdate will overwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst with
wrong contents which won't boot the machine.

This is related to #312296 - and explains why I don't like the proposed patch
there.

I propose to change the last line

Bug#313069: fai softupdate on systems-not-installed-with-fai destroy grub/menu.lst

2005-06-11 Thread Holger Levsen
package: fai
version: 2.8.4
severity: important

Hi,

scripts/GRUB/10-setup fcopies an invalid /boot/grub/menu.lst and the
fcopy-postinst script fixes this file, by running grub-installer with the
data from $diskvar (/etc/fai/diskvar.sh) - which doesn't exist on systems
which were not installed with fai.

The easy workaround would be to test, if $diskvar exists before
fcopying /boot/grub/menu.lst. But this doesn't work with fcopy -r / -
therefore I propose a special class which only gets defined on fresh installs
and move /files/boot/grub/menu.lst/GRUB to that class.

Another option would be to create $diskvar based on /proc/* and/or
menu.lst/lilo.conf/yaboot.cfg before it is overwritten... - but I guess thats
much more error-prone...

You could also sell it as a feature that softupdates doesnt touch the
bootloader...

I've just come home from the skolelinux developer meeting in Bergen where I
investigated the possibilities of using fai's softupdates capabilities for
skolelinux installations.

One of the conclusions is this bug-report :-)

It would be very useful to have two more default classes, FAI_INSTALL and
FAI_SOFTUPDATE - I find the prefix FAI_ also useful.

To finally answer the question of this thread: install mtop after the
installation, either by running fai softupdate after the install (and adding
a script to the class that installs mysql which only gets executed on
softupdates (you could for example check on $target..) or by creating a
script then gets run only by the very first boot of the new system.

More reports to follow :-)

Hi,

thanks for packaging dokuwiki!

I just installed the version from stable and when I browse the wiki the
following lines are displayed in the top of the pages:

New release available: 2008-05-05. upgrade now! [14]
New release candidate available: 2008-04-11. upgrade now! [12]
New release candidate available: 2008-03-31. upgrade now! [11]
An XSS vulnerability was discovered, read the bug report for manual fixing or
upgrading [10]
New release available: 2007-06-26. upgrade now! [9]
New release candidate available: 2007-05-24. upgrade now! [8]

At least the XSS issue seems worthwhile fixing to me, but from a usability
point of view I would also welcome if the other liners would not be displayed
(as long as the version in stable has no security issues).

Hi,

I just tried the new nepali support and tuxtype crashed, because the font is
not available.

IMHO it should fail gracefully or better yet, not allow me to select
languages where the font is not available. (But show them greyed.)

The debian package will only suggest nepali and malayalam fonts, as I assume
people speaking those languages have them installed anyway.

Bug#487866: been there, experienced this too

2008-07-10 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

I've been thinking some weeks whether I should add to this what I'm going to
add now. Also due to any lack of reply of Thomas to this bug I have decided
to speak up now.

The normal policy for working with the fai svn, is that noone is allowed to
commit to trunk except Thomas. The occasional commit which fixes a typo is
ok, but thats about it. So normally development from other happens in people
branches. I cannot really say, how the changelog/copyrights are treated when
code is copied from there to trunk. (A quick search for hank (- (t|
T)ank(s)) in debian/changelog reveals one Thanks and if you search
for by you find one occasion where attribution is given.)

Besides that there is one generic THANKS file which lists very different
contributors but not their contribution(s).

I can share my frustration about the few occasions when I was allowed to fix
stuff in trunk. There were the commits r3585 r3598 and r4591, which mostly
fixed simple packaging issues. Which I correctly attributed to myself in
debian/changelog. This attribution was later removed by Thomas.

I have no idea why. If he wants to be the only one in changelog, he should not
let others do the work nor take their work.

And of course, this mail is not the first time I mention this. I have
mentioned this to Thomas privatly before previously, but havent insisted on
this, because it is somewhat minor (I mostly want fai to work and it usually
works great.). On the one hand, on the other hand its pretty discouraging to
see ones distributions not acknowledged.

disappointed,
Holger

Bug#478127: please implement missing checks

2008-04-27 Thread Holger Levsen

Yes, I think so, but it's not clear when debcheck or edos-debcheck

It seems that EDOS debcheck misses some tests that are done by
debcheck.php, like problems with predepends, recommends and suggests,
etc. So it's probably better to stay with debcheck.php for the time being.

Filing this as a wishlist bug against edos-debcheck, so that gets implemented
eventually.

Bug#475295: linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64: firewire doesn't work on ipod and camcorder

2008-04-28 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

On Sunday 27 April 2008 20:08, you wrote:
I'm providing Debian kernel packages with just one change, the old

 useless.

if you want the old stack use the etch+half image. dannf keeps it quite
 current.

wrong. the etch+half kernel has other changes compared to sid+lenny as well,
the one mentioned in the above blog post _only_ differs in having the old
firewire stack enabled.

That is a pity. Is it a problem upstream or with the maintainer?

It's a gross simplification. vserver is not dead, they are lacking a bit
behind the latest kernel release, which is the only thing some people care
about...

Bug#478472: generates broken source packages

2008-04-29 Thread Holger Levsen
package: cdd-dev
version: 0.5.0
severity: important
x-debbugs-cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

I just tried to create a new debian-edu package with cdd-dev.

So I checked out the debian-edu package from svn and ran make dist (in a sid
chroot) which created debian-edu_0.830~svn40716~edu.lenny+1.dsc and
debian-edu_0.830~svn40716~edu.lenny+1.tar.gz

When trying to unpack that with dpkg-source -x I got the following error:

$ dpkg-source -x debian-edu_0.830~svn40716~edu.lenny+1.dsc
dpkg-source: warning: extracting unsigned source package
(debian-edu_0.830~svn40716~edu.lenny+1.dsc)

I guess cdd-dev doesnt cope with sha-checksums introduced with the new dpkg...

Bug#434097: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the debian-edu-install package

2008-04-29 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi Christian,

thanks and kudos for your awesome work on debian-i18n!

On Tuesday 29 April 2008 11:10, Christian Perrier wrote:
The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

Well spotted and sorry for that.

The package is currently translated to:
ca cs da de el es fi fr id it ja lv nb nds nl nn pl pt pt_BR ru se sv tr vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: ca cs da de el es fi
id it ja lv nb nds nl nn pl pt pt_BR ru se sv tr vi

In svn I see slighty different data:

debian/po/ca.po:47 translated messages, 1 untranslated message.
debian/po/fi.po:46 translated messages, 2 untranslated messages.
debian/po/lv.po:38 translated messages, 1 fuzzy translation, 9 untranslated
messages.
debian/po/nds.po:12 translated messages, 6 fuzzy translations, 30 untranslated
messages.
debian/po/pt_BR.po:38 translated messages, 3 fuzzy translations, 7
untranslated messages.
debian/po/se.po:18 translated messages, 30 untranslated messages.
debian/po/tr.po:43 translated messages, 5 untranslated messages.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, May 09,
2008. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the
 BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

I object, on the sole basis to spare you the work and enable you to work on
other, less maintained packages ;-)

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Friday, April 18, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
  the package maintainer.
Tuesday, April 29, 2008 : send this notice
Friday, May 09, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates

I will keep this deadline. So if someone wants to send in more translations,
please do.

Saturday, May 10, 2008 : build the package and upload it to

And I will upload that saturday, notification set :)

regards,
Holger

thanks

Hi,

unfortunatly I cannot confirm this as fixed. On an up2date sid amd64 machine
today encoding to dirac works, playing with gstreamer/totem still crashes
totem. (using schroedinger 1.0.3-1). Playing this file on i386 works.

During the next 6 days I have access to the machine and can provide more info.

Bug#434097: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the debian-edu-install package

2008-04-29 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi Christian,

On Tuesday 29 April 2008 16:50, Christian Perrier wrote:
I actually applied the following fixes:

   * Consistent spelling of Debian Edu in debconf templates. Translations
 unfuzzied. Closes: #434098
   * Better wording of one template. Closes: #453676

Cool.

The former included unfuzzy but the latter (which is a BR by /you)
need translator's review, hence the difference.

Ok.

And I will upload that saturday, notification set :)
Seems fair. However, given the fact that I introduced changes, I
hereby offer to collect the translations and updates, then send the
big patch file to you (or commit to the debian-edu SVN if you remind
me the URL and check if I have commit access)and then you upload.

No thanks :) I rather prefer you commit ASAP, we already have updated
translations committed to svn and thats suboptimal if you changed the
templates due to #453676 but if thats not in svn...

You have commit access to the repo and the svn url is
svn+ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/svn/debian-edu/trunk/src/debian-edu-install/

Just commit all you have in private mails or on your local disk, I (or someone
else from Debian Edu (*) :) 'll fish the stuff from svn.

thanks again regards,
Holger

(*) I do have a reminder cronjob set up for me...
