Bug#337346: guile-1.6-slib: Broken in slightly different way in 1.6.7-2

2006-01-14 Thread Mika Bostrom
Package: guile-1.6-slib
Version: 1.6.7-2
Followup-For: Bug #337346

It appears this bug still bites, although not exactly like before.
Upgraded packages just now, gnucash fails to start due to this:

% gnucash
ERROR: Unbound variable: hash-for-each

Downgrading slib package to 3a1-4.2 fixes the problem again. Hence,
this is very likely in the same package as before. Nasty.

Do you have this driver packaged in this way in some repository? And maybe you
have kernel modules as well? :-P

Does it also remove the grub hooks in /etc/kernel/* ? Those are the ones
causing the problem, i believe.

Indeed, if 2.6.15 solves this problem, we can close this bug. But does it ?

Bug#254113: ttf-freefont: Horizontal spacing problems also

2006-01-14 Thread Jan Willem Stumpel
Package: ttf-freefont
Version: 20051206-2
Followup-For: Bug #254113

Version 20051206-2 does not only have problems with the vertical spacing.
The horizontal spacing may also be affected. When Freemono is used
as a print font for Mozilla mail messages (using xprint), characters are
'spaced out' horizontally, giving a very unnatural-looking printout (with
lines about 60 % too long).

Spacing along both axes is OK with version 20051102-2.

Yes. I'm already aware of that. It's caused by either openssl or
libnet-ssleay-perl, which I also maintain in Debian and upstream.

libnet-ssleay-perl linked against openssl 0.9.7 works fine. Linked
against 0.9.8 it breaks with the above messages. I tried to debug it a
but and turned tracing in Net::SSLeay on. The error message you'll get
is pretty confusing and you can find it in various places on the net as
an unresolved issue with openssl.

I don't have a apt repository, but now that you asked, I just uploaded
them to http://people.debian.org/~nomeata/fglrx-for-6.9/

Note that these are not built from the official debian sources, so don't
bug Flavio about any problems with them. You won't need these packages
for long, anyway, as I expect Flavio to upload his packages to debian in
the near future.

Package: interchange
Version: 5.2.0-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 3.5

The upstream author emphatically states that Interchange only works with
unthreaded Perl. I've run siege tests on the sample data base and confirmed
that interchange fails with multiple threads. The package states via debconfig
that it requires unthreaded perl, yet there the dependency is for
perl >= 5.6.0-16 which is threaded. This is really a broken dependency as no
 such package exists.

There are indications from the mailing list that interchange requires apache1
(probably due to the threaded mod-perl issues). There is no dependency,
suggests, recommends for < apache 2 yet a configuration script looks for an
 apache1 config file.

The original issue of unthreaded perl goes back almost 2 years (see bug 199718)

Compounding this issue is the fact that there are dependencies in the debian
core packages for the threaded perl package.

Given that to create a workable system in testing requires running apache1,
creating a second unthreaded perl and mod-perl, and extensive editing of the
main program to point at these non existent packages, interchange should not
be in testing, but only unstable at this time.

It was closed 2005-11-19. That sounds like a bug in apt-listbugs. Is it
not coping with the new debbugs versioning support that leaves the bugs on
the bug page even after they've been archived?

Ah, yes. This is Bug#323626 against apt-listbugs.

Bug#321644: mozilla-browser: This bug is completely reproducible for me

2006-01-14 Thread Kevin Brown
Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.7.12-1
Followup-For: Bug #321644

There's a web page at work that I use occasionally that triggers this
bug every time. Recompiling with "-g -O" instead of "-g -O2" fixed it.

Since changing the optimizer flags causes the crashes in question to
disappear for me and apparently others as well, I think it's pretty clear
we're talking about an optimizer bug here. Patches to the mozilla code
probably aren't going to be as effective as simply changing the optimizer
flags to something that's more reliable.

Since a number of other platforms use -O and not -O2 (possibly for similar
reasons), the most reasonable approach here is to use -O on the amd64
architecture.

One other thing: this same optimization bug appears in gcc 3.4 as well (I
attempted to compile mozilla using gcc 3.4 but ran into the same problem).
So it's something that's been around a while.

Anyone wanna file a bug against gcc on this?

Yeah, I've confirmed this. Same problem, same solution, arrived at
independently. :-)

By the way, Teemu, your crashing problem is likely due to an optimizer
bug in gcc. Try modifying your debian/rules file and change line 41
from this:

OPTFLAGS=-g -O2 -DDEBIAN

to:

OPTFLAGS=-g -O -DDEBIAN

See bug 321644 on that issue.

But I need Magick++:

I do not see any advantage in using pkg-config and I think that the bug

Well, in that case I think it would be best to just upload (NMU or
otherwise) to fix the build-deps.

We evidently haven't heard anything from Dan yet on this RC bug, so
orphaning may be appropriate -- but he has three other packages in unstable,
so if he's MIA, MIA/QA should be notified first to figure out if all four
packages should be orphaned.

If goobox is orphaned, is it your intention to adopt it?

Yeah... if pkg-config --libs ImageMagick++ is spitting this out, that's an
imagemagick bug. :/

Bug#326335: please rebuild with libreadline5-dev as build dependency

2006-01-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Er... sorry, I just noticed bug #337358, which I don't have a solution for,
and an NMU will break the versioned conflicts in slib... so no NMU after
all. The patch should still be good, but it doesn't quite go far enough.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

Package: xviewg-dev
Version: 3.2p1.4-19.1
Severity: serious

Hello,

This is a serious bug filed against your package because it
depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is
no longer available in sid. This makes your package uninstallable.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html

To fix this bug, you should update your Depends field and substitute
xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development libraries that this
development package needs to depend on. These would be the sum of:

(a) X libraries providing include files that are #included by any
public header file of the package

(b) X libraries that need to be present when statically linking
against this package. To find out these:

- if you ship a .la file, the X libraries referenced in the
  dependency_libs variable

- if you ship a .pc file, the X libraries referenced in the
  Requires, Libs, and Libs.private fields

- if not, the X libraries mentioned in the output of:

objdump -p *.so | grep NEEDED

where *.so are all the .so files shipped in the package.

  Thanks for your collaboration!

Package: xview
Version: 3.2p1.4-19.1
Severity: serious

Hello,

This is a serious bug filed against your package because it
build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is
no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from
  source.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html

To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and
substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development
libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed
information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2].

[2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev

As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86
to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not
be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from
testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner.

[3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html

The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge,
so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to
follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of
affected packages can be found here [4].

[4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

  Thanks for your collaboration!

This is a reminder that archived bug #270345
("Incorrect build on systems with libavcodec installed")
is still present in sarge.

I've set the severity that high because this bug might e.g.
lead to a miscompiled binary package on one architecture
if a DSA for openvc was issued.

Bug#348025: Acknowledgement (kdelibs seem to broke MIME types for entire KDE!)

2006-01-14 Thread Rafal Maj
Update:
this bug is not just grave, it is HORRIBLE - renders entire KDE
unusable, after that upgrade almost no KDE application works (Ksnapshot
can't save, krusader can't operate on files, konqueror dont load any
page, amarok do not start, and so on)

In addition to MIME, the applications complain about io_slave kio_slave

Part of strace which I think my be relevant

access("/usr/lib/kde3/plugins/imageformats/.", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
access("/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats/.", F_OK) = 0
open("/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats",
O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_LARGEFILE|O_DIRECTORY) = 12
lstat64("/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats/libqmng.so",
{st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=21016, ...}) = 0
access("/usr/bin/imageformats/.", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)

this are parts of strace when in example KSnapshot is about to show the
error message about MIME types.

An updated patch is attached. This is a little cleaner than the last
because it involves no code changes, and will cope with future changes
to the postgresql packaging.

Uploaded to DELAYED/5-day.

The maintainer of this package (Ralf Treinen) is on vacation until 22/1. I prefer to wait until he
can react to the transition before I (comaintainer) upload anything.

The attached changes the control field according to autodetection by Moritz Muehlenhoff's script

Bug#348060: x-symbol: Neglected package with RC-bug, should this be orphaned?

2006-01-14 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Package: x-symbol
Version: 4.43-5
Severity: serious

Hi,

It seems that the x-symbol package is no longer maintained:

* last upload 3 years ago
* contains an RC-bug open 1 month ago, no answer from the maintainer
* None of the bugs reported since last upload have been answered
* New upstream releases available, with wishlist bugs filled more than
  2 years ago

Even if I have no interest in maintaining this package, I think that
finding a new maintainer for this package is better for the Debian's
users.

After three weeks without answer from the maintainer, I will reassign
this bug to wnpp.

Cheers,

Bug#348025: kdelibs seem to broke MIME types for entire KDE!

2006-01-14 Thread Christopher Martin
tags 348025 unreproducible
severity 348025 important
stop

I suspect someone would have noticed by now if the latest kdelibs were
simply hosing their entire desktop; there must be something else going on
here.

First of all, I'd do a dist-upgrade to the latest unstable. The latest
libdjvulibre package no longer conflicts with kdelibs-data. A nice clean
purge/reinstall of kdelibs might help, again. Be sure to apt-get clean,
then re-download the packages, to make sure you're not using something
corrupted. Also, you might want to move your ~/.kde directory aside (say,
to ~/.kde-old) and then try again; that way you can eliminate the
possibility that a problem with your user settings is at the root of the
problem.

Cheers,
Christopher Martin

This bug report is filed against the source package which builds
a library depending on libstdc++6 and defining or referencing
*mt_alloc* symbols. The package has to be rebuilt with either
g++-4.0_4.0.2-4 or g++-3.4_3.4.4-10 (or newer). Please rename the
library package to a name with a "c2a" suffix, and adjust the build
dependencies if dependencies on another renamed library do exist.

Do *not* yet upload the package, but wait for a followup mail to this
bug report.

If this bug report is for some reason invalid, please close it with
a short reasoning.

Package: wmfsm
Version: 0.34-8

I asked the release team to BinNMU qgis for bug #339254. After
discussion with Steve Langasek I decided that qgis needs to split
libqgis0 out into a separate package to conform to policy. I've done
this and sent the package to my sponsor some days ago. It will have to
go through the NEW queue, so it will be some time before it's in testing
again. I don't think you'll have a problem installing qgis from unstable
using apt pinning right now though.

Bug#346628: direct dependencies Re: Bug#346628: marked as done (bugsx: FTBFS: build-depends on removed xlibs-dev)

2006-01-14 Thread Justin Pryzby
Hello Martin,

I supplied a patch to bugsx fixing the xlibs-dev transition bug.
Unfortunately, I failed to take into account "direct dependencies".
Your package has a direct dependency on x-dev and libx11-dev, which
dependssd on x-dev. So, your package builds fine, but an additional
build-dependency on "x-dev" should probably be added for the next
upload.

Bug#346171: libstdc++6 loses changelog/copyright on upgrade

2006-01-14 Thread Adam Conrad
This comes from you doing your directory->symlink migration in preinst,
rather than postinst (to see an example of it being done correctly, see
openssh-server, or php4-mysql as examples).

If you migrate in preinst, you remove the directory, create the symlink,
THEN dpkg removes your package's files (dutifully following the symlink,
and removing the other package's changelog and copyright)

If you do it in postinst, this snafu doesn't occur, and the world goes
on happily able to read changelogs and licenses...

Package: bbdate
Version: 0.2.4-4.1

Also, re running autoconf helped, but I think I uploaded to a delayed
queue, because i got so carried away by the transition LOL
I also hope I didn't NMU myself!

Will look at the patch, and see if it works!

A full build log can be found at:
http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?arch=alpha&pkg=pstngw&ver=1.3.1-5

Running the following as a non root user with sudo access will cause pstngw
to FTBFS:
dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us -B -rsudo

The problem is that the clean target (run as root) is creating directories that
the build process then attempts to write to (as a regular user), which fails.

Please fix the debian/rules clean target to not create directories, and do
that in the build target where it should be done instead.

Bug#346592: will NMU per 0-day policy

2006-01-14 Thread Justin Pryzby
Hello Thomas,

My original mailings didn't take into account "direct dependencies".
ocp has direct build-dependencies on the following packages:

libx11-dev
libxext-dev
libxxf86dga-dev
libxxf86vm-dev
x-dev

So the following 2 are now missing:

libxext-dev
x-dev

(both of which are dependencies of libx11-dev)

The package will build fine, but the direct build deps should probably
be readded. Sorry about this; I'll work on providing interdiffs
including direct dependencies to the other 30 packages now. (I'm
already subscribed to those bugs, so I don't think there's any need to
set ownership).

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

here is the problem:

# apt-get install gpe-contacts
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gpe-contacts: Depends: dbus-1 (>= 0.23.4) but it is not installable
Depends: dbus-glib-1 (>= 0.23.4) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

gpe-contacts needs to be updated for newer dbus packages.

You're right; this didn't include direct dependencies. canna should
declare a replacement dependency on libx11-dev.

Bug#348087: udev 0.080 renders AGAIN system unbootable

2006-01-14 Thread Eric Valette
Package: udev
Version: 0.080-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

udev 0.80-1 is totally crasy about ide device naming with my
setting and ends up with wrong major/minor allocation for
partition starting with number 5 on my hde disk. It creates
as much host as partition => I get wrong major minor and
mount reports errors.

Going back to 0.079-1 fixes the problem.

This starts being really annoying to end up booting with knoppox, chrooting
to my normal / (hde1) and downgrading udev.

Just a note:

I'm perfectly aware of this easy issue. I'll do not upload a new version
because while patching for using UNIX98 pts and so squashing all other
reports, I discover a major issue with the I/O Window which causes
the program to freeze, also with current version. I would prefer take
this program off etch 'til solved, which could be not so immediate,
due to lack of upstream.

Package: ascd
Version: 0.13.2-3
