cdbs doesn't run configure because config.status already exists in the
upstream source. Removing it in the clean target fixes the problem.
You should probably also remove config.log to avoid spurious diffs.

2006-06-30 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: ajaxterm
Version: 0.7-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.4

The test to see if the script is run by root uses bash specific extensions
not necessarily available in /bin/sh:
- the $UID variable (use $(id -u))
- the [[ comand ([ is standard)

As an aside: I don't really understand why to put this test there at all.

As far as I remember, the general belief is that 'Alleged RC4' was in
fact leaked intentionnaly by RSA inc. itself (which designed RC4). So
much for the group of cypherpunks.

Right, ARC4 algorythm is also used in ssh. So the algorythm itself is not a
problem.

I think it should be easy to replace that code by a DFSG-free
implementation of RC4. Openssl include one.

I'm afraid that I can not use OpenSSL licensed code into GPL program (shc)
without a special OpenSSL exception given from the shc's upstream, which
unfortunately did not respond to any mail sent yet. Also I'm a litle bit
scared to reimplement that myself - I might introduce hell of bugs at
least ;-) ... deviating from upstream for the matter of that is not a good
idea also.

Bug#376103: subversion: svn doesn't report modified file when timestamp has not changed

2006-06-30 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: subversion
Version: 1.3.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

The recode utility does not update the timestamp (I assume this is a
feature). When a file is modified by recode, the commands svn status
and svn diff don't report any change, and svn revert file doesn't
do anything. This may lead to changes that won't be propagated and to
corrupted files (since revert doesn't work).

Looking at the timestamp (mtime) isn't sufficient to quickly decide
whether a file has been modified. Under Unix, the ctime should be
taken into account too (and/or possibly the inode). I think that the
ctime only should be safe, though it may sometimes be modified while
the file hasn't changed (e.g., due to a chmod). Note also that the
file size has changed after recode.

Bug#356352: libsysfs2 patch

2006-06-30 Thread Morten Werner Olsen
On Tue, Jun 13, 2006 at 11:32:55PM +0200, Filippo Giunchedi wrote:

 this:
 http://people.debian.org/~filippo/patches/hwinfo-12.31_libsysfs2-0.1.patch
is my first attempt to port hwinfo to libsysfs2, the patch is against
12.31 but applies to 12.9 with all hunks successful (just a few offsets).
Please test the patch if it works for you (at least if it finds the same
amount of hardware, or more :))
The output from debian's hwinfo and 12.9 patched are not identical though,
I can't tell if there's more information or less, I have it available for
 display.

Thanks a lot for this patch! :)

The patch applies fine with 12.33 (newest upstream I found atm), but I
get this error when running hwinfo (this is the shared libary one -
similar source package that is in experimental, but with your patch and
newer upstream release):

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/sbin/hwinfo
usb.3.3: input*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption
   (fasttop): 0x0807dbf0 ***
  Aborted

This error is also when using --hw_item, when hw_item is one of block,
bluetooth, braille, camera, cdrom, chipcard, disk, dsl, floppy, hub,
isdn, joystick, keyboard, modem, mouse, netcard, network, partition,
printer, scanner, usb and wlan.

I also got a segmentation fault for hw_item like pci, pcmcia and pppoe:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/sbin/hwinfo --pci
   net.1: get network dataSegmentation fault

I have not tested 12.33 without your patch yet, not as a static binary,
and not 12.31 nor 12.9 with your patch. Hope to do some more testing
later tonight, and will send updates to you and BTS. Maybe I will have
time to run hwinfo in Valgrind too.. :)

Bug#376103: subversion: svn doesn't report modified file when timestamp has not changed

2006-06-30 Thread Peter Samuelson

clone 376103 -1
retitle -1 recode: bad default: hides file modifications by restoring mtimes
reassign -1 recode
severity 376103 normal
thanks

[Vincent Lefevre]
The recode utility does not update the timestamp (I assume this is
 a feature).

Yeah, well ... I don't know whose brilliant idea it was, but it seems
this _is_ documented:

  `--touch'
The _touch_ option is meaningful only when files are recoded over
themselves. Without it, the time-stamps associated with files are
preserved, to reflect the fact that changing the code of a file
does not really alter its informational contents.

I find it hard to put into words just how broken I think this is, and I
hope it's obvious enough that I don't have to. You just _don't_ modify
files on a Unix filesystem and then hide the fact that you did so,
unless the user has specifically indicated that there's a reason to do
this - as with 'cp -p' or 'rsync -t' or 'touch -t'. You don't make
this the _default_ behavior!

(Yes, I know the 'copy' builtin of COMMAND.COM on MS-DOS does this.
It's broken too.)

I'm copying this bug to recode. In my opinion, 'svn' and 'make' should
be entitled to assume that the user has been honest about modifications
of her own files.

Looking at the timestamp (mtime) isn't sufficient to quickly decide
whether a file has been modified. Under Unix, the ctime should be
taken into account too (and/or possibly the inode).

What the #*$@ is the mtime for, then? Is it just a pretty but useless
field for 'ls -l' to display? In my opinion, the whole _point_ of the
mtime is to tell you when a file was modified. Yes, you're allowed to
cheat and back-date a file, but when you decide to lie to the system,
you have to realise that you just lied to the system and the system is
allowed to be confused.

Note also that the file size has changed after recode.

We can't rely on that, it isn't always true. And it certainly won't be
true if you do something even more clever than recode, like an in-place
rot13, to prove that you can still break your own working copy.

  *  *  *

In summary, the patch you want me to apply is quite simple, but in
essence you're asking me to tell svn to ignore all mtimes in favor of
ctimes. And really, it seems to me that the rationale for doing this
also applies to every other Unix program -- and thus implies that the
mtime field shouldn't exist at all.

It's also not a patch I can send upstream, as it will do the wrong
thing on Windows and OS/2. This increases the annoyance factor even
more.

Thanks,
Peter

In addition, I would suggest we reinstate the previous behaviour, but
display a warning when wildcards are used but --wildcards is not set.
The warning would tell people about the migration and explains they must
fix their scripts to use --wildcards before upgrading to etch+1.
I can only second that - we really should support our users at least
that much (see point 4 in the social contract). Breaking users' scripts
in these ways needs more than a simple note in NEWS.Debian (you'll get
dozens of them when upgrading from sarge to etch).

Bug#376134: openoffice.org: Only builds libmythes-dev on amd64

2006-06-30 Thread Ray Kohler
Package: openoffice.org
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The new OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 still does not build properly on amd64. The
build does not error out, but it doesn't really do anything useful. The
only package generated in libmythes-dev, which appears to be incomplete
anyway.

Mostly, this bug is just asking you to look at the buildd log, and
proves that there's one more amd64 user out there very much wishing for
a working OOo. ;)

Bug#360048: regina FTBFS back to RC

2006-06-30 Thread Matej Vela
tag 358960 patch
thanks

Jurij Smakov [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

At the moment regina has only built successfully on amd64, alpha and
i386. As it fails on a few release architectures, bumping the severity
 back to RC.

Only amd64, alpha, and i386 have the necessary definitions for the
recently enabled General Call Interface (gci/gci_convert.*). These
are mostly about type sizes, and ideally we might be able to generate
a header automatically, though variations in the calling convention
complicate things (for example, floating-point arguments need to be
handled differently on amd64).

As an intermediate solution, disabling GCI on unsupported platforms
ought to do the trick (patch below).

Cheers,

Matej

proves that there's one more amd64 user out there very much wishing for
 a working OOo. ;)

Wait.
(and use a 32-bit chroot in the meanwhile; also go and read

 See also #376013.

Or actually, python-gtk2-dev incorrectly depends on python (= 2.3),
even though it clearly expects to find python2.4 specifically.

If they didn't get the hint from the Conflicts:/Replaces: on xfce4-panel
is there really much hope that they'll check bugs.d.o ? ;)

I'm not really bothered either way to be honest. I think a better thing
would be for the BTS to report ftp.d.o bugs on the package pages as well
and will file a bug for that.

Can I ask why you wanted it installed or how you got into a situation
where your apt frontend tried to install it?

Simon.

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables QALCULATE_CFLAGS
and QALCULATE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.

Hi,

When building planner, I get the following error:
/usr/bin/pygtk-codegen-2.0: line 11: /usr/bin/python2.4: No such file or
directory
/usr/bin/pygtk-codegen-2.0: line 11: exec: /usr/bin/python2.4: cannot execute:

make[3]: *** [planner.c] Error 126

I assume this should use /usr/bin/python instead?

I think it should be easy to replace that code by a DFSG-free
implementation of RC4. Openssl include one.

I'm afraid that I can not use OpenSSL licensed code into GPL program (shc)
without a special OpenSSL exception given from the shc's upstream, which
unfortunately did not respond to any mail sent yet. Also I'm a litle bit
scared to reimplement that myself - I might introduce hell of bugs at
least ;-) ... deviating from upstream for the matter of that is not a good
 idea also.

libgcrypt also has an RC4 implementation.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
checking for pkg-config... no
checking for libbinio_CFLAGS...
checking for libbinio_LIBS...
configure: error: The pkg-config script could not be found or is too old. Make
sure it
is in your PATH or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full
path to pkg-config.

Alternatively you may set the libbinio_CFLAGS and libbinio_LIBS environment
variables
to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for
more details.

To get pkg-config, see http://www.freedesktop.org/software/pkgconfig.
See `config.log' for more details.

Bug#376198: python-matplotlib: matplotlib is not usable with default installation

2006-06-30 Thread Carlo Segre
Package: python-matplotlib
Version: 0.86.2-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The default installation of python-matplotlib is non-functional because of
tthe following specific problem.

Installing the python-matplotlib package also installs python-numeric see
[0] because the Depends: line has python-numeric | python-numarray but in
/etc/matplotlibrc, the default for numerix is numarray, not Numeric.
This resulet in the package becoming unusable from a clean install as shown
below:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] python -c 'import matplotlib.numerix'
Traceback (most recent call last):
File string, line 1, in ?
  File /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/matplotlib/numerix/__init__.py,
line 52, in ?
from numarray import *
ImportError: No module named numarray

This will noly function properly if both the python-numarray _and_
python-numarray-ext packages are installed.

One of the the two following fixed needs to be made:

1. the dependency on python-numeric and python-numeric-ext needs to be
dropped, or

2. the /etc/matplotlibrc file needs to be changed to use Numeric for numerix
and the python-numeric and python-numeric-ext dependency needs to be dropped

Eventually, numpy will have to be used but there is no Debian package as of
yet.

Cheers,

Carlo

Bug#374396: perl: FTBFS on MIPS/hppa

2006-06-30 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Hi,

I've taking a closer look at why op/pack.t is failing. I
was looking at this at hppa, incase that matters.

Here is a list of the lines having a problem:
not ok 505
# For list (-128, -1, 0, 1, 127) (total -1) packed with c unpack '%53c' gave 0,

The problems all seem to happen only with len being 53.

Len of 53 seems to be the point where floating point
doesn't have enough accuracy anymore, and the detection of
wether it's using float or int breaks.

It seems that the following code:
my $max_p1 = $max + 1;
$max_p1_is_integer = 1 unless $max_p1 + 1 == $max_p1;
$max_is_integer = 1 if $max - 1  ~0;

only doesn't agree on both being integers with a length of
53. It's saying that max_p1 is still integer while max
isn't. For shorter lengths, they both say it's still
integer, for longer, they both say it's it's not.

This test to see wether we're using floats also seems to
fail:
if ($calc_sum == $calc_sum - 1  $calc_sum == $max_p1) {

So, this all seems like rounding problems in the test
suite, and don't look like problems with perl.

2006-06-30 Thread Georges Khaznadar
Bastian Blank a écrit :

Thank you Bastian for this quick feedback.

The reason for this bug is found: one file was already compiled in the
mainstream distribution, and the build process did not overwrite it.
A bug report will be filed to the author.

Best regards, Georges.

Bug#376197: Acknowledgement (cannot import nevow)

2006-06-30 Thread paul cannon
Okay, the problem appears to be that Nevow 0.7.0 is not twisted (= 2.3)
aware. There is a Nevow 0.9.0 release out that fixes these problems.

Some other possible fixes:

- Don't upgrade past Twisted 2.2

- Make some changes to nevow's compy.py: protect z.i.Interface from
being overwritten by the t.p.components import *, and add some
items to the explicit imports list (they've been removed from
t.p.components's __all__ list). These band-aid seemed to work for me
amidst many deprecation warnings, but I didn't test very well.

- Update to Nevow 0.9.0. I have a debian package ready that I'll post in
a separate New upstream version bug.

Version: 0.8-6.1

I've NMUed for this bug (fixing the bug to use versioning instead of the
fixed tag, to ease tracking through testing); here's the changelog:

  hwtools (0.8-6.1) unstable; urgency=high
  .
* Non-maintainer upload.
* Use sys/io.h instead of asm/io.h for inb and outb macros; fixes
FTBFS with newer kernel headers. (Closes: #374677)

Bug#376207: package uninstallable in sid (due to new python policy)

2006-06-30 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: python2.3-poker-network
Version: 1.0.20-1
Severity: serious

Heya,

Due to the changes in the python packaging policy, trying to install
poker-network basically leads to this:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
python2.3-poker-network: Depends: python2.3-twisted but it is not
  going to be installed

Please update your package to confirm to the new python policy.

Thanks,
Marc

Bug#376088: bashisms in /etc/init.d/ajaxterm

2006-06-30 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi,

Thanks for your report.

Le vendredi 30 juin 2006 à 09:56 +0200, Michal Politowski a écrit :
The test to see if the script is run by root uses bash specific extensions
 not necessarily available in /bin/sh:
 - the $UID variable (use $(id -u))
 - the [[ comand ([ is standard)
Committed to SVN - should be uploaded very soon

As an aside: I don't really understand why to put this test there at all.
Ajaxterm service is run with start-stop-daemon --pidfile option, and the
pid file cannot be written in /var/run as a standard user, which means
the service can be started but not stopped by non-privileged user.

However, standard user can run their own instances.

Cheers,
Julien
