hi Kate i hope this is your mailbox.
I was pleased to meet you the other day. I hope you was excited about New

It's already heading up, but the big information isn't even

Hope this helps you out. I'll see you this weekend.

Hi,

[Bill, I think we can take you out of this conversation?]

Theppitak Karoonboonyanan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Steve's solution is to remove the diversion at postinst, by
tricking dpkg-divert by moving away the newly installed
babel.sty before removing the diversion, and then moving
it back afterward. He has been careful in making the script
work even if it's called many times.

Okay, this means that tetex-base's version will vanish without problems,
and only thailatex's will be there, right?

Last time I looked at it, babel.sty differed from tetex-base's version
only in one line, the addition of the thai language. It should also
change the version number to indicate that the file was patched. Have
you added this? If yes, I'm willing to sponsor it.

I haven't adopted the part that he suggested to Conflicts:
and Replaces: tetex-base (3.0), anyway. Blame me if
 my decision is wrong.

I'm not sure, I also have the impression that, with the existing
diversion, there's no problem of a conflict. However, I generally trust
Steve to know why he does things, and it doesn't hurt much. So maybe
you should add it.

No idea; I was told on IRC that this would work, and wanted to try.
Steve's analysis looks much sounder to me, and I'd rather forget about

Hi,

Packages build depending on libqt4-dev are failing to build because
QtCore.pc had -lglib-2.0 in it. Please add a Depends on
libglib2.0-dev.

You could also move the -lglib-2.0, and maybe the rest of the
libraries from Libs to Libs.private.

I also noticed that the file has this in it:
-L/build/buildd/qt4-x11-4.2.0/lib

You really don't want in the .pc files.

Justification: Policy 2.2.1

The file pokerclient2d/data/fonts/neurpoli.ttf says This font is
freeware. Read attached text file for details. but there is no attached
text file. I found the README.TXT file through the author's website
(www.larabiefonts.com) and the EULA in it says:

 | - You may modify your copy or copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or any
 | portion of it, provided that you also meet all of these rules:
 |
 | a) Do not alter in any way alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 1-9)
 | contained in the font. An exception is converting between formats,
 | here is allowed the nominal distortion that occurs during conversion
 | from second order to third order quadratic curves (TrueType to
 | Postscript) and vice versa.

There are plenty of TTF fonts in the Debian archive that can be used
as a replacement for this one.

Bug#393519: thailatex: sarge to etch upgrade fails

2006-10-18 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

On 10/18/06, Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Okay, this means that tetex-base's version will vanish without problems,
and only thailatex's will be there, right?

Right. And when upgrading on sid, dpkg-divert just complains
a little bit that there is no such diversion, before continuing the
installing process to the end.

Last time I looked at it, babel.sty differed from tetex-base's version
only in one line, the addition of the thai language. It should also
change the version number to indicate that the file was patched. Have
you added this? If yes, I'm willing to sponsor it.

OK. I have just added the subversion from v3.8d to v3.8d.thai1.

Yes, it doesn't hurt. And I also trust him. So, I have added it.
Please get the updated version at the old place.

Bug#393862: this package replaced by gnuradio

2006-10-18 Thread Bdale Garbee
Package: gr-audio-alsa
Version: 0.5-2
Severity: serious

This source package is part of the GNU Radio suite. As of the upstream
3.0 release, the GNU Radio packaging for Debian has been restructured to
use a single source package 'gnuradio', and I have taken over as primary
maintainer of the suite from Ramakrishnan Muthukrishnan and Steinar H.

Because GNU Radio is a suite of development tools with no dependent
packages, and versions prior to 3.0 have no relevance to Debian users
now that 3.0 has been release, I would prefer that the pre-3.0 versions
are not included in the release of etch, which is why I'm marking this
release critical.

Please remove this source package and associated binary packages from

Well, older versions of ghc warned about this stuff:

This issue has been reported [1] to upstream's bug tracking system at

Bug#393867: this package replaced by gnuradio

2006-10-18 Thread Bdale Garbee
Package: gr-wxgui
Version: 0.6-3
Severity: serious

This source package is part of the GNU Radio suite. As of the upstream
3.0 release, the GNU Radio packaging for Debian has been restructured to
use a single source package 'gnuradio', and I have taken over as primary
maintainer of the suite from Ramakrishnan Muthukrishnan and Steinar H.
Gunderson.

Because GNU Radio is a suite of development tools with no dependent
packages, and versions prior to 3.0 have no relevance to Debian users
now that 3.0 has been release, I would prefer that the pre-3.0 versions
are not included in the release of etch, which is why I'm marking this
release critical.

Please remove this source package and associated binary packages from
unstable and testing and replace it and the others in the same situation
with the new gnuradio package.

Thank you!

No, it does not look like a ubuntu only bug. It seems the location of

Since I don't have access to a sparc machine as well, I wanted to look around

 Hello,

when building 'schoolbell' in a clean unstable chroot,
 I get the following error:

Hi Andreas,

The error you describe is probably from trying to build schoolbell with
Zope3.3 which was lately uploaded in an un-coordinated fashion.

SchoolBell needs to be updated to work with Zope 3.3, but it looks as if
upstream is not willing to make that happen. No outside volunteers have
appeared to take over that role.

If this continues, schoolbell should be removed from testing and perhaps
later from Debian. Note that it was never released in a stable release.

For SchoolTool, the situation is completely different. There is a new
release around the corner which will be compatible with Zope 3.3.

Bug#393875: syslog-ng 2.0 dies quiet after cron.daily

2006-10-18 Thread Stefan Rohlfing
Package: syslog-ng

Hi,

I've configured syslog-ng to log from the net and to a remote host, and it
worked fine.

AT the 4th Oct syslog-ng was upgraded from version 2.0rc1-2.2 to 2.0rc3-1.
2006-10-04 08:01:26 upgrade syslog-ng 2.0rc1-2 2.0rc3-1

And at the 5th Oct 6:25 it dies quit, after (or while) cron.daily runs.

Since there are no more entries in log-files (local or remote) because the
syslog-ng process is gone
without a word. After a few days I took notic that syslog-ng is gone so I start
it with
„/etc/init.d/syslog-ng start“ without any problems.
But next mornig after cron.daily syslog-ng dies again. I start it again and it
works the hole day till netx
morning.

Oct 13 06:25:01 beteigeuze /USR/SBIN/CRON[31470]: (root) CMD (test -x

Oct 14 07:31:07 beteigeuze syslog-ng[2079]: syslog-ng starting up;
version='2.0rc3'

I thought there is a cron-job killing syslog-ng, so I start every script in
/etc/cron.daily/ by hand but
nothing happend. I tried /etc/init.d/syslog-ng reload but it worked fine - till
next morning.

So I downgrade to syslog-ng 1.6.5-2.2 and it worked fine over the next morning
and so on.

Bug#393846: wave at a webcam to overwrite file

2006-10-18 Thread Frederik Dannemare
Hi

Sorry for not being very active over the course of the summer (new job
and everything). I am, however, prepared to pick up speed again and I
was wondering if it would be okay to upload version 3.2.6 to unstable
(with urgency=medium/high ?) now that we are getting pretty close to a
freeze? Or would you recommend that I simply stay on version 3.2.3 +
bug fixes?

3.2.6 seems stable and has been out for a couple of months now.

Your comments are appreciated.

Best regards,
Frederik Dannemare

Only on some hardware. The exact circumstances havn't been determined

Therefore I'm really considering to downgrade this bug.

please help to determine what actually causes this error.

btw, because I've seen a similar bug with firefox. What DefaultDepth do
you have in your xorg.conf? If it happens to be 16, please try
increasing it to 24 and see if this bug goes away.

Bug#393882: linux-image-2.6.18-1-vserver-powerpc: system freezes eratically with no reason [powerpc, vserver]

2006-10-18 Thread Bruno Beaufils
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-1-vserver-powerpc
Version: 2.6.18-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I have upgraded my box with a 2.6.18-1-vserver-powerpc kernel, and its the
third time my box completely freeze after some time (between 10 minutes and 1
hour): no more keyboard, no more mouse, no more network activity. The system
just hang forever. No specific messages in any logs (I checked syslog,
messages and kern.log).

I was just writing mail (emacs+mutt+postfix), nothing special.

I do not remember getting such a behavior with any computer running Linux
since my early days using the SLS distribution.

I run Debian sid on a Mac Powerbook Aluminium (PowerBook5,4) and am connected
to my LAN through the airport (bcm53xx) card. I wonder if it may come from the
bcm53xx driver (see bugs #392065).

I switched back to a 2.6.17-2-vserver-powerpc kernel in order to try if it
comes from the kernel, since then everything seems right (no freeze yet).

Bug#373411: python-wxgtk2.4 is breaking every package depending on it

2006-10-18 Thread Ron
On Mon, Oct 09, 2006 at 05:15:14PM +0200, J??r??my Bobbio wrote:
python-wxgtk2.4 has not been transitioned to the new Debian policy.

This should be fixed. Anyone familiar with the changes required,
please do so. I don't have time to come up to speed on this
immediately.

This now breaks package depending on it (#391075 is an example),
 severity has been raised accordingly.

The best solution could be to ship etch without the obsolete
python-wxgtk2.4 at all. Here's the remaining reverse dependencies:

Why is it that python seems to blind almost all of its users to
anything that is _not_ python? (this is not a snipe, I'm genuinely
curious ...)

In this case, what you missed appears to be, at least:
Reverse Depends:
  wstools,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.4.1.1
  trustedqsl,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.4.1.1
  tipptrainer,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  thuban,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  survex-aven,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.4.1.1
  sooperlooper,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  python-wxgtk2.4,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  plucker-desktop,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  newpki-client,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.4.1.1
  libwxgtk2.4-dev,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  libwxgtk2.4-1-contrib,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  freqtweak,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.4.1.1
  ecosconfig,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1
  ctsim,libwxgtk2.4-1
  audacity,libwxgtk2.4-1 2.4.5.1

And I personally am not too keen on hounding all those people to
deal with the bugs later wx versions may introduce into their apps,
on the very eve of a major release -- since it seems fairly clear
that is not what they wish to spend their time on at present.

If one of our pythonistas would like to bring this package into
their brave new world, it would clearly save everyone a lot of
pain and disruption, given these packages have mostly been
successfully frozen and release ready for longer than the
base system has...  ;}

They are clearly stable, and according to popcon, clearly have
plenty of users still. It seems a bit silly to toss out stable
software just because we are in the process of making a stable
release...

best,
Ron

Bug#393846: wave at a webcam to overwrite file

2006-10-18 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

On Wed, Oct 18, 2006, Frederik Dannemare wrote:
Sorry for not being very active over the course of the summer (new job
and everything). I am, however, prepared to pick up speed again and I
was wondering if it would be okay to upload version 3.2.6 to unstable

freeze? Or would you recommend that I simply stay on version 3.2.3 +
 bug fixes?

You can upload whatever version you see as stable enough for etch. If
it doesn't get any more serious bugs reported, it will transition to
 etch naturally.

Newer upstream releases should in general be tested more extensively
and hence should be uploaded with urgency=low, on the other hand, RC
bug fixes should uploaded with urgency=high (or at least medium). Make
your choice, or upload twice, perhaps 3.2.3 + bugfixes urgency=high,
followed by 3.2.6 when .3 is in testing.

 Yes, it's attached.

Well that would be the problem right there. It is defined, but not in a
way that we can use later on. Probably a test for whether or not it's
[[:digit:]] before #define'ing it is the right way to go.

Package: nettle
Version: 1.14-1
Severity: serious

Hi!

This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions
are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in
the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages.

It seems this source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

nettle-1.14.orig/testsuite/rfc1750.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files,
and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your
package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take
into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the
list of exceptions under Known exceptions at
http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#334156: proposed version from Arjan FTBFS on sparc

this is an ubuntu only bug though.

No, it does not look like a ubuntu only bug. It seems the location of
byteorder.h is wrong in the source. Could you try a new version from my
personal repository [1]? I can not test it myself as I have no acces to
  a sparc machine.

sorry for my laziness and late response...

Since I don't have access to a sparc machine as well, I wanted to look around
if I s.o. would test-build this version for me. However in the meantime,
StevenK uploaded a different fix to ubuntu which simply strips out the
include-directive. It didn't FTBFS any longer on sparc, see [2].

But does it work on sparc? Hat is sensitive to endianness of an
architecture. So while it might build it could still produce incorrect
traces now. See for instance this thread on the upstream mailing list:
 http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/hat/2006-October/000353.html

I am not sure why the header is included and at the moment have no time
to find that out, so maybe you can take this upstream and mail the
upstream mailing list [1]. They should be able to tell whether ripping
out the include is ok.

Greetings Arjan

I hardly think that it is hardware dependend. I could verify it on
different i386 and am64 systems, with completely different
graphic-cards/drivers. Someone other posted results with different
window managers, and even without a window manager it doesn't work.

please help to determine what actually causes this error.

Tell me what you need more and I'll send you the logs or whatever is needed.

btw, because I've seen a similar bug with firefox. What DefaultDepth do
you have in your xorg.conf? If it happens to be 16, please try
increasing it to 24 and see if this bug goes away.

The defaultdepth seems not to be the problem, I tried on 8, 16 and
24bit, the problem was excately the same on all these depths.

all tetex related packages gives me the same error ...fmtutil: running

I would be surprised if it had nothing to do with older modifications.

What is the output of

And if you have locate installed, what's the output of locate mp.pool?

This should be fixed. Anyone familiar with the changes required,

The interface changes between python-wxgtk2.4 and python-wxgtk2.6 are
minor. It's really easy to port an application from the former to the
later.

Also, my research about the possibility to remove python-wxgtk2.4
demonstrated that it could be easily done, either by really small
patches (done for bittorent-gui and pyro) and update to newer upstream
versions (e.g. thuban, gnue-forms).

This now breaks package depending on it (#391075 is an example),

The best solution could be to ship etch without the obsolete

I was interested in helping this transition for Python because it seemed

Bug#393582: diff.gz for new upstream

2006-10-18 Thread Arjan Oosting
Hi Ian,

I have prepared a diff.gz for the new upstream release. It seems only
upgrading is not enough to fix the FTBFS as hslibs (package util,
package lang etc) are not shipped anymore. So I did a little bit of
hacking.

I could not test the build with GHC 6.6 yet as libghc6-readline-dev is
not available yet. It does build with GHC 6.4.2 though :-)

I hope this helps.

Greetings Arjan

Obviously not a OOo bug. OOo just calls fc-cache in the maintainer scripts

is what fails here - fontconfig bug.

Bug#384381: libapache2-mod-python

Looking at the file list for libapache-mod-python, I see it does not provide
a version compiled for 2.3, so it seems to me that prividing said
virtual package is a bug there, not here.

I'll go file it right now.

Bug#392942: Regression in selection lists, probably due to #384787

2006-10-18 Thread Frans Pop
Hello Alastair,

AFAICT Eugeniy's analysis shows that this issue is unrelated to his patch
for #384787, but rather a separate slang issue.

What is your take on it and how can we best proceed to resolve it?

If at all possible, I'd like to see it resolved before the RC1 release,
but that is going to be very tight. If not, we could delay it until the
next release candidate.

Eugeniy: are you by any chance still working on this?

Thanks,
FJP

Thanks, I'll take a look.

I could not test the build with GHC 6.6 yet as libghc6-readline-dev is

It should be provided by ghc6 - please let me know if it's not for some

Don't worry about testing the build, though.

It should be provided by ghc6 - please let me know if it's not for some

Duh, you are right. I guess I was sleeping.

I have dropped libghc6-readline-dev from the Build-Depends again.

Attached is an updated diff.gz which builds against unstable.

Hi

Your package is not installable as it depends on apache2-common which is not
available in unstable anymore. You might want to update the dependency to
apache2.2-common.

Cheers

Bug#392942: Regression in selection lists, probably due to #384787

2006-10-18 Thread Alastair McKinstry

 Hello Alastair,

AFAICT Eugeniy's analysis shows that this issue is unrelated to his patch
for #384787, but rather a separate slang issue.

What is your take on it and how can we best proceed to resolve it?

If at all possible, I'd like to see it resolved before the RC1 release,
but that is going to be very tight. If not, we could delay it until the
 next release candidate.

Eugeniy: are you by any chance still working on this?

 Thanks,
 FJP

I've been looking at this bug last night and today (a bit more awake).
The problem is with a patch 080_wide_chars that broke jed (see #369152)
and that I removed; I think this is patch needs fixing rather than removing.
The error is in SLutf8_skip_chars() and I hope to work on it tonight if
I get
a chance. Patches and well-tested NMUs welcome.

Regards
Alastair
