Bug#405274: module-assistant: cannot compile under 2.6.19-1, due to non-existant linux/config.h

2007-01-02 Thread Armando Romero
Package: module-assistant
Version: 0.10.8

Justification: breaks unrelated software

This software is doing well for kernel 2.6.15, but not for kernel
2.6.19-1 as it searches for linux/config.h but it has been replaced with
linux/autoconfig.h - and probably all source modules like zd1211-source

Bug#401665: #401665

2007-01-02 Thread Jérôme Marant
Hi Andreas,

I want to let you know I'm unable to work on #401665.
I don't have the necessary hardware, nor the knowledge about
such an architecture, nor the support from Ryan Murray I asked
for (he runs the autobuilder but never replies to mails).

I also did not work on the port myself and applied patches
that used to work.

Regards,

This cannot be compiled with module-assistant as it searches for
linux/config.h and that is not available on 2.6.19-1 and is outdated. It
shall use linux/autoconfig.h on newer kernels by my opinion.

Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.13.24
Severity: critical

Tags: patch

Hi,

dpkg-shlibdeps sets

my @librarypaths = qw( /lib /usr/lib /lib32 /usr/lib32 /lib64 /usr/lib64 );

to include the 32bit libraries on ia64 and amd64. But packages install their
libraries in /emul/ia32-linux/[usr/]lib to which [/usr]/lib is a link.

The problem now is that dpkg will not find the package for a library
under [/usr]/lib32/ as it was installed under a different path. This
causes dpkg-shlibdeps to not find a package for 32bit libraries and no
shlibs file. In the end the packages will lack the neccessary depends
to the 32bit libraries used in the package.

This currently broke mbr and lilo. mbr needs a rebuild when this is
fixed and all packages with Build-Depends on libc6-i386 are likely to
be broken too.

MfG
Goswin

PS: The fix is to include /emul/ia32-linux/[usr/]lib in @librarypaths.

Bug#379628: fixed in linux-ntfs 1.13.1-5

  Hello, Andi.

  As far as I can tell, Frans wanted to upload this fix first to
  experimental, give it a wider testing, and then put it into unstable.
  So I am really waiting for the green light. :-) Should I proceed?

 Hmm. The only thing is that I never saw an actual call for testing.
 I would have expected something on d-d-a. That would have given others a
 chance to actually do targeted testing...

 Probably just a misunderstanding.

Probably my fault, sorry. I supposed (wrongly) that you would send
that
announcement. :-(

Best regards and happy new year,

Ender.

Bug#405290: quodlibet: crashes frequently with Xlib: unexpected async reply message

2007-01-02 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe

Package: quodlibet
Version: 0.23.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Here's the message that occurs: Xlib: unexpected async reply
(sequence 0x47d64)!. The sequence number is always different. There
was one time where there was a segmentation fault crash which is
probably unrelated and which I can't reproduce. This problem is
probably not Quod Libet's fault since it occured on another package I
couldn't remember.

thanks

Hi,

Attached is the diff for my xarchon 0.50-10.1 NMU.
I changed it a little bit.

Basilarly,
 -misc-fixed-medium-*-normal-*-15-0-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
fails; while
 -misc-fixed-medium-*-normal-*-15-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
instead works.

I also fixed two lintian warnings:
- deleted a duplicate build-dep
- delete config.log on clean

a.

Hi,

error message is simple:

I guess that directory belongs rather to iceweasel than to dwww. Hence the

Bug#405291: libapache2-mod-python: If request are made to req object apache hangs

2007-01-02 Thread Michael Rasmussen
Package: libapache2-mod-python
Version: 3.1.3-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: renders package unusable

The version of libapache2-mod-python causes apache2 to hang when requests from
python scripts - both cgi (.py) and mod_python (cgihandler, psp and publisher)
when requests are made to the request object (req). According to
http://www.modpython.org/ there are severe memory leaks in mod_python 3.2.10.

I have backported libapache2-mod-python (3.2.10-3) from Sid and installing this
version solves all errors.

I suggest an immediate backport from Sid to sarge.

I guess that directory belongs rather to iceweasel than to dwww. Hence the

When selecting new game from the menu, the program terminates with
an error on stdout (or stderr?):

canvas_font_load():  cannot load font
`-misc-fixed-medium-*-normal-*-15-0-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1'

My guess is that XArchon is missing a dependency on some package
containing that font.

This bug prevents me from starting a new game at all, therefore I'm
marking it as grave. Hope to see it fixed, I'm really curious about
trying out the game!

Bug#392813: libnss-mdns must not edit nsswitch.conf if search local exists in resolv.conf

2007-01-02 Thread Loïc Minier
notfound 392813 0.8-6.1
stop

Hi Stefan,

On Wed, Dec 27, 2006, Stefan Fritsch wrote:
 package libnss-mdns
 found 392813 0.8-6.1

 I would prefer you to open a separate bug report or perhaps we can
 clone this one for now. The original bug report is about a broken
 behavior after upgrade to libnss-mdns 0.8-5, but I think I've
 addressed this particular issue in my 0.8-6.1 NMU. If you prefer not
 to file a new bug, I can clone the bug and retitle it appropriately.

 Now to get to your particular problem:

 Update from 0.8-6 to 0.8-6.1 broke DNS for me again. libnss-mdns must
 not edit nsswitch.conf if local is exists in the search line in
 resolv.conf or remove the local or at least give some warning.

 It seems to me your site is using the .local TLD; this is sadly an
 inherently problematic situation in combination with mDNS and you
 should consider changing to a different TLD if you want to use mDNS.
 I imagine this might not be an easy thing to achieve, and we have built
 a workaround in the nss-mdns + avahi-daemon packages to support these
 situations (by disabling mDNS lookups).

 The solution you describe might sound like a good thing to do for
 setups similar to yours, but the problem is a bit more complex once you
 start considering roaming laptops which attach to different networks,
 which might or might not use the .local TLD.

 Since version 0.8-6.1, nss-mdns is configured to systematically contact
 avahi-daemon for mDNS lookups; if avahi-daemon isn't running, the
 lookup should fail fast. avahi-daemon ships an ifupdown hook since
 version 0.6.16-1 which will disable avahi-daemon when a .local TLD is
 detected.

 The intent of this layout is to check for the existence of a .local TLD
 after each change in the DNS (which will typically involve a networking
 change).

 Stefan, could you report the version of avahi-daemon you had when you
 experienced the bug? Is the bug still present in version 0.6.16-1?
   If the bug is still present, could you check whether the ifupdown
 avahi hook works as expected? This can be achieved by reporting the
 output of:
host -t soa local.

 Perhaps the test needs to be enhanced to match your particular
 configuration; I imagine this can be caused by .local entries in your
 /etc/hosts but no real .local DNS zone at your DNS server.

 You might also find this page of interest to understand the problem:

Bug#405295: tuxguitar: files without source in tarball

2007-01-02 Thread Tollef Fog Heen

Package: tuxguitar
Severity: serious
Justification: undistributable due to missing source for some files

tuxguitar's debian/copyright lists the licence as LGPL. However, in
the lib/ directory, janel-ant-0.1.jar is shipped with compiled
binaries and no source.

Given that there is no copyright information for the janel-ant-0.1
jar, I believe tuxguitar in its present state is undistributable.

Attempted to install the latest and greatest kqemu using m-a. This failed
trying to write to a /etc/udev.d subdirectory. I am not using udev so obviously
do not have this.

There is no dependency on udev in kqemu-source nor does kqemu really need
udev to run. It has always been sufficient to copy the kqemu.ko to the
appropriate place in /lib/modules

Bug#405327: libnss-mdns 0.8-6.1 breaks DNS if search local exists in resolv.conf

2007-01-02 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: libnss-mdns
Severity: critical
Version: 0.8-6.1

Hi Loïc,

On Tuesday 02 January 2007 12:45, Loïc Minier wrote:
  package libnss-mdns
  found 392813 0.8-6.1

  I would prefer you to open a separate bug report or perhaps we can
  clone this one for now.

Done.

  Now to get to your particular problem:
  Update from 0.8-6 to 0.8-6.1 broke DNS for me again. libnss-mdns
  must not edit nsswitch.conf if local is exists in the search
  line in resolv.conf or remove the local or at least give some
  warning.

  It seems to me your site is using the .local TLD; this is sadly an
  inherently problematic situation in combination with mDNS and you
  should consider changing to a different TLD if you want to use
 mDNS. I imagine this might not be an easy thing to achieve, and we
 have built a workaround in the nss-mdns + avahi-daemon packages to
 support these situations (by disabling mDNS lookups).

  The solution you describe might sound like a good thing to do for
  setups similar to yours, but the problem is a bit more complex
 once you start considering roaming laptops which attach to
 different networks, which might or might not use the .local TLD.

  Since version 0.8-6.1, nss-mdns is configured to systematically
 contact avahi-daemon for mDNS lookups; if avahi-daemon isn't
 running, the lookup should fail fast. avahi-daemon ships an
 ifupdown hook since version 0.6.16-1 which will disable
 avahi-daemon when a .local TLD is detected.

  The intent of this layout is to check for the existence of a
 .local TLD after each change in the DNS (which will typically
 involve a networking change).

  Stefan, could you report the version of avahi-daemon you had when
 you experienced the bug? Is the bug still present in version
 0.6.16-1? If the bug is still present, could you check whether the
 ifupdown avahi hook works as expected? This can be achieved by
 reporting the output of:
 host -t soa local.

  Perhaps the test needs to be enhanced to match your particular
  configuration; I imagine this can be caused by .local entries in
 your /etc/hosts but no real .local DNS zone at your DNS server.

  You might also find this page of interest to understand the
 problem: http://avahi.org/wiki/AvahiAndUnicastDotLocal

When I did the upgrade I had avahi-daemon 0.6.15-2 installed.
The problem is still there with avahi-daemon 0.6.16-1, when I change
nsswitch.conf to the configuration added by libnss-mdns.

I don't use .local TLD anymore, but I used it in the past, so that the
entry in the resolv.conf was still there. The search local entry
*alone* prevents DNS from working, it is not necessary to have .local
anywhere in DNS or /etc/hosts.

It is absolutely no problem for me to change my configuration but this
case should be handled somehow (ask to change resolv.conf, not modify
nsswitch.conf, add hint to release notes, ...) because the problem is
very difficult to find if you update a lot of packages and then can't
google for a solution. (Therefore severity critical)

Some more thoughts:

- dnsmasq which is used on the openWRT routers by default will not
return SOA records, even if it serves A records:

$ host x.lan
x.lan has address 10.1.2.3
$ host -t SOA lan.
lan has no SOA record

Maybe there would be a problem if someone has configured addresses
for .local hostnames on such a router. (But maybe it just means that
the unicast .local hostnames would not be found anymore?)

- if you check for search local in /resolv.conf, don't forget that
there can be several domains in one line and domain works
like search (IIRC)

- maybe an entry in the release notes would be a good idea in any
case, even if you handle the search local case, because there might
be other corner cases where DNS breaks. People should either remove
everything with .local from {DNS,/etc/hosts,/etc/resolv.conf} or
uninstall libnss-mdns (or avahi-daemon?).

- I consider it very unexpected behaviour for a package to modify a
file in /etc without asking. Policy 10.7.3 says: local changes must
be preserved during a package upgrade. After the upgrade to 0.8-5 I
changed nsswitch.conf to not use mdns but my change was overwritten
on upgrade to 0.8-6.1. Maybe a debconf note or NEWS.Debian entry
would be in order. Or maybe libnss-mdns should remember that it
changed nsswitch.conf once already and not touch it again.

Cheers,
Stefan

 *alone* prevents DNS from working, it is not necessary to have .local
 anywhere in DNS or /etc/hosts.

 That's very interesting; actually, a new upstream release of nss-mdns
 just came out and it precisely targets .local in the search entry of
 resolv.conf. The new upstream release defaults to ignoring the search
 field completely.

 Some more thoughts:
 - dnsmasq which is used on the openWRT routers by default will not
 return SOA records, even if it serves A records:

 That's interesting. Does it use the .local TLD or must it be
 configured to do so?

 Do you see a way to detect such a configured openWRT router? Does it
 add .local in the resolv.conf of the DHCP client?

 This might be an useful test to add aside of the avahi SOA lookup.

 - maybe an entry in the release notes would be a good idea in any
 case, even if you handle the search local case, because there might
 be other corner cases where DNS breaks. People should either remove
 everything with .local from {DNS,/etc/hosts,/etc/resolv.conf} or
 uninstall libnss-mdns (or avahi-daemon?).

 There's no libnss-mdns package in sarge, but it might an interesting
 note for users of the .local TLD indeed.

 - I consider it very unexpected behaviour for a package to modify a
 file in /etc without asking. Policy 10.7.3 says: local changes must
 be preserved during a package upgrade. After the upgrade to 0.8-5 I
 changed nsswitch.conf to not use mdns but my change was overwritten
 on upgrade to 0.8-6.1. Maybe a debconf note or NEWS.Debian entry
 would be in order. Or maybe libnss-mdns should remember that it
 changed nsswitch.conf once already and not touch it again.

 libnss-mdns should not change resolv.conf for you again. The full
 story is that libnss-mdns auto-configured itself in upgrades to some
 previous version; this caused trouble for .local TLD users and was
 reverted to install a different configuration which was even more
 problematic for the vast majority of people not using the .local TLD;
 finally, I NMUed the package to revert this change were it had been
 done and install the standard configuration again (this was supposedly
 okay because avahi-daemon auto-disables itself when a .local TLD is
 found).

 There was no easy way to differenciate between people with the not
 recommended configuration but who wanted to keep it because they need
 it and people who landed with the problematic configuration and were
 waiting for an upgrade to fix it. Since the later seemed to be the
 majority, the configuration was upgraded to the recommended setup.

 It seems you uncovered a new class of problems, which is not about
 lookups of .local hosts failing, but which is about the search entry
 causing trouble for all lookups; this is probably because nss-mdns is
 authoritative for the .local domain and the search line causes
 lookups to be in the .local TLD.

 I'll try to prepare the new upstream release of nss-mdns and send it to
 you for testing; I expect it will solve the problem.

Bug#405336: vdr ignores svdrphostsconf, listens instead to 0.0.0.0:2001

2007-01-02 Thread Juergen Kosel
Package: vdr
Version: 1.4.4-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hello,

after I have installed vdr and started as daemon by the init.d script,
chkrootkit reports a possible scalper worm infection.
The chkrootkit script checks for listening of port 2001, which is used by vdr:
tcp0  0 0.0.0.0:20010.0.0.0:*   LISTEN

But svdrphosts.conf says:
#
# svdrphostsThis file describes a number of host addresses that
# are allowed to connect to the SVDRP port of the Video
# Disk Recorder (VDR) running on this system.
# Syntax:
#
# IP-Address[/Netmask]

#192.168.100.0/24 # any host on the local net
#204.152.189.113  # a specific host
#0.0.0.0/0# any host on any net (USE THIS WITH CARE!)
#192.168.1.0/24

Maybe the client address is checked, after vdr has accepted the connection.
(I haven't looked into this.)

Bug#405336: vdr ignores svdrphostsconf, listens instead to 0.0.0.0:2001

2007-01-02 Thread Stephen Gran
This one time, at band camp, Juergen Kosel said:
 Hello,

 after I have installed vdr and started as daemon by the init.d script,
 chkrootkit reports a possible scalper worm infection.
 The chkrootkit script checks for listening of port 2001, which is used by vdr:
 tcp0  0 0.0.0.0:20010.0.0.0:*   LISTEN

 But svdrphosts.conf says:

 #192.168.1.0/24

 Maybe the client address is checked, after vdr has accepted the connection.
 (I haven't looked into this.)

This is indeed the logic:

int cSocket::Accept(void)
{
  if (Open()) {
 struct sockaddr_in clientname;
 uint size = sizeof(clientname);
 int newsock = accept(sock, (struct sockaddr *)clientname, size);
 if (newsock  0) {
bool accepted = SVDRPhosts.Acceptable(clientname.sin_addr.s_addr);
if (!accepted) {
   const char *s = Access denied!\n;
   if (write(newsock, s, strlen(s))  0)
  LOG_ERROR;
   close(newsock);
   newsock = -1;
   }
isyslog(connect from %s, port %hu - %s,
inet_ntoa(clientname.sin_addr), ntohs(clientname.sin_port), accepted ?
accepted : DENIED);
}
 else if (errno != EINTR errno != EAGAIN)
LOG_ERROR;
 return newsock;
 }
  return -1;
}

I'm not the maintainer, but I suggest downgrading the severity and
removing the security tag from this report as a first step. If it was
my package, I might suggest closing it (or perhaps redoing it as a
wishlist bug to only bind to some interface or IP address, rather than
all).

Take care,

Bug#405268: Missing dependency, should be rebuilt against new libpcap

2007-01-02 Thread Gunnar Wolf
It seems to me that this is because of a non-recognized shlibs
dependency - The package declares the correct relationships on i386
and s390, but doesn't on all other architectures:

$ for i in tcptrace*deb; do echo == $i; dpkg -e $i; grep Depends
DEBIAN/control; done
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_alpha.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_amd64.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_arm.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_hppa.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_i386.deb
Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-4), libpcap0.7
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_ia64.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_m68k.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_mips.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_mipsel.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_powerpc.deb
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_s390.deb
Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.2.ds1-4), libpcap0.7
== tcptrace_6.6.1-1_sparc.deb

In debian/control, we have:

Build-depends: libpcap-dev
Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}

So, all in all, this bug might be related to libpcap, for not
correctly registering the shlib dependency.

While building gnome-python-desktop from source in a pbuilder chroot I get this
error:

checking for PYGTK... configure: error: Package requirements (pygtk-2.0 =
2.4.0) were not met:

Package pygobject-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `pygobject-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'pygobject-2.0', required by 'PyGTK', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables PYGTK_CFLAGS
and PYGTK_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

 - Aborting with an error
 - unmounting dev/pts filesystem
 - unmounting proc filesystem
 - cleaning the build env
- removing directory /var/cache/pbuilder/build//10863 and its

An additional build-dep on python-gobject-dev fixes this. Full buildlog is
attached.

Bug#405354: inn2: contains non-free files

2007-01-02 Thread Russ Allbery
Tollef Fog Heen [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: inn2
 Severity: serious
 Justification: contains non-free files

 it seems like lib/md5.c (in upstream/tarballs/inn-2.4.3.tar.gz in the
 inn2 source package) contains RSA licenced code which does not include
 the right to distribute derivative works.

 See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=340538 for a
 similar bug and suggestions on alternate locations to get free md5
 implementations.

Hi,

I'm one of the upstream maintainers of INN.

While it could be worded more clearly, I believe this license was clearly
intended to allow redistribution of derivative works.

** Copyright (C) 1990, RSA Data Security, Inc. All rights reserved.
**
** License to copy and use this software is granted provided that it is
** identified as the RSA Data Security, Inc. MD5 Message-Digest Algorithm
** in all material mentioning or referencing this software or this
**  function.
**
** License is also granted to make and use derivative works provided that
** such works are identified as derived from the RSA Data Security,
** Inc. MD5 Message-Digest Algorithm in all material mentioning or
**  referencing the derived work.
**
** RSA Data Security, Inc. makes no representations concerning either the
** merchantability of this software or the suitability of this software for
** any particular purpose. It is provided as is without express or
** implied warranty of any kind.

Note the identification requirement for derivative works, which would be
meaningless if those works weren't distributed. The license does in
general suffer from imprecise definitions of terms.

I'm not adverse to switching to L. Peter Deutsch's implementation, but
since the MD5 code has been modified to integrate better with INN's build
system, this is not a completely trivial task. In the meantime, I don't
think this is critical for etch; this code is fairly widely used under the
assumption that redistribution of modified versions was intended, and I
believe that is strongly implied by the license.

Bug#405295: janel-ant jar (MIT licence)

2007-01-02 Thread Philippe Coval
Hi and HNY

Thank you for reporting this mistake,
this janel-ant jar (MIT licence) is only used for using ant on win32,
so it can be safely removed.

That's what I've done when repackaging the 0.8.1 version (alsa) :
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/t/tuxguitar/

Anyway, feel free to upload the corrected unless a new version of
tuxguitar is out

I've sent email to upstream authors with a question about the license.
Unfortunately, the email address [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is mentioned in
RFC 1321, and which sould be used for questions about RSA referense
implementations, doesn't work anymore.

BTW, I suspect that very many sowtware products use this reference
implementations of MD5 (and probably not only MD5).

I don't think that the serious severity is approprate for t his report,
unless it's causing actual data loss (if so, it should be grave). Posts
not getting through to a mailing list is not data loss, if they make it
to the BTS.

(OTOH, users filing installation reports w/o logs and then never
responding to our requests for the logs could perhaps be construed as
data loss. :-)

 Joey, do you have any ideas how to resolve this?

Geert's idea is a good one. Or we could just disable some logs, for
example, the partman log tends to be about half the total logs; in liw's
report, it was 63% of the complete message. And we rarely if ever use
that log.

 AFAIK it's not possible to attach things to messages using the current
 reportbug interface.

I've taken a look at reportbug and it looks like you are right. I also
don't see a simple solution for this.

In that case I suggest that we disable the option to include syslog,
messages and partman in the bug report and just request those files from
the submitter if we need them. We can then also request the submitter to
gzip them.

It also seems useful to add functionality to reportbug allowing a
maintainer to specify attachments to be included (with compression
optional or size dependent), although this should probably only be done
after asking the user if that's OK.
Post Etch I will think on an implementation for this and file a wishlist
BR against reportbug. We can then possibly properly include attachments
again post-etch.

Bug#405357: Database functions do not work on 64bit systems

2007-01-02 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: libdballe-dev
Severity: serious

Hello.

Today I tested dballe on my new laptop and I found out that on 64bit
systems its database module just won't work. 'make check' shows the
problem, but it requires a working ODBC connection to be set up and so
it's not run during the package build time.

This will be fixed in the next upstream version, that is in preparation
and should be out within a month.

Unfortunately it will be a major release, with some API changes, and
will very likely not be ready in time for etch.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#405331: also FTBFS on ia64 and alpha

Hi,

Holger Levsen, le Tue 02 Jan 2007 18:16:48 +0100, a écrit :
 seems to be a different issue than #404899

Why? The error messages are very much alike: the linker complains
about a particular kind of relocation (gprel / dprel) that is forbidden
in shared objects. The objects and symbols are different, but that's
probably because the assembly constraints are very different between
those archs.

At least try -fPIC ;)

So why are you marking the bug as 'serious'? Failing to build on an

you exercising maintainer's prerogative here?
