Yes, but the libs no longer exist in the archive at that version so I
think apt is getting a little confused.

Basically be patient. i386 hasn't built the whole of the new xfce 4.4.1
yet. You can track its status at:
http://people.debian.org/~igloo/status.php?email=pkg-xfce-devel%40lists.alioth.debian.orgpackages=arches=

Please consider running testing if you want to always have satisfied
dependencies or are unsure why this happens.

Simon.

Package: wmii
Version: 3.6~rc2+20070329-1

The rules script defines different ETC dirs for the build step and the
install step, so the scripts are filtered to point to /etc/wmii-3.5,
while the relevant files are installed to /etc/X11/wmii-3.5.

Also, there is no need to install the libixp which comes packaged with
this snap. Further, the Makefile provided upstream does not install the
headers for libixp, though it installs the lib, which is not acceptable.
It would be best, during the install step, to set the DIRS make variable
to: cmd rc man

PLease de-install xmltex, then configuration should succeed. This is in
fact a bug in xmltex, and needs a lot of fixes.

 If you feel
that the severity isn't justified, feel free to lower the priority.

I currently don't think so. so downgrading the kpdf bug.

kpdf has moved upstream to xpdf 3.02 which seems to fix it according to the
xpdf bug log. If this is true, this bug will be fixed when kde3.5.7 gets
uploaded.

3.3.0-3 of zope3 is in unstable...

Yes, and unfortunately it will remain that way until someone updates
schoolbell code to work with zope 3.3.0. That is non-trivial and doesn't
seem like it will happen soon. (See bug
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393244 for more info)

SchoolBell should be removed from testing until the work is done or we
decide to remove it from Debian completely.

 Hi,

Has there been some progress on this ? Wouldn't it be better to remove
schoolbell from Debian if it's unlikely to be ported to zope 3 soon ?

Upstream is is planning a release of schooltool, but not of schoolbell.

So, yes, I guess requesting the removal of schoolbell is the right
course of action.

 Thank you,

2007-04-19 Thread Rafael Laboissiere
* Olafur Jens Sigurdsson [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-04-17 13:02]:

I must say that I dont understand this bug report, it doesnt say
anything specific about what is wrong with the package.

The only problem I have with version 2.9.10 is that it does not
include the path to the forge functions and that is easely solved by
 issuing addpath(genpath(/usr/share/octave/site/api-v22/m/)) inside
octave. This is a bug for certain but is this the only thing this bug
 is about?

Well, Octave 2.9.01 has api-v23. You should also add
/usr/lib/octave/site/oct/api-v22/to the path, but this is almost
guaranteed to fail.

The soutlion would be to rebuild octave2.9-forge_2006.07.09+dfsg1 against
octave2.9-headers_2.9.10. It tried it and wasn't successful, however.
The upstream sources would need severe patching and I am not willing (and do
not have time) to do it.

Bug#419020: jadetex/texlive-lang-cyrillic: Conflicts with each other (install fails)

2007-04-19 Thread Frank Küster
Dear Ohura-san, dear TeX people,

this might need a change in the basic TeX packages.

Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 (/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/base/fontenc.sty
 (/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/tipa/t3enc.def)
 (/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/cyrillic/t2aenc.def

! LaTeX Error: Encoding scheme `' unknown.

See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
Type H return for immediate help.
  ...

 l.39 ...titution{\LastDeclaredEncoding}{cmr}{m}{n}

 I'll investigate this later.

So, I've tried to get some insight into this. It boils down to what I
wrote in http://tug.org/mailman/htdig/tex-live/2007-April/013454.html

Essentially, I still do not know what goes on behind the scences and
makes the encoding unknown. But it is clear that the Debian-specific
change that triggers the problem is that we do a hack and not let
jadetex load the dumped latex.fmt upon format creation, but do our
redefinition of \dump and load latex.ini.

I fear that even if we understood the cause of the undefinition, the fix
might be non-trivial. So is there a way to use latex.fmt again?
Remember that the reason for our hack was #384334. In this bug log, I
wrote (just think
s/tetex-base/texlive-latex-base/;s/tetex-bin/texlive-base-bin/):

,
| Imagine the following scenario:
|
| - tetex-base, tetex-bin and jadetex are installed, the formats are
| generated.
|
| - tetex-base and -bin are updated in the same dpkg run. Updating either
| tetex--base or -bin requires all formats to be rebuilt (because of
| [possible] changes in the engine's, pool files, input files, etc.), so
| both postinst scripts will trigger a rebuild. After unpacking and
| before configuration, tetex-bin's configuration file
| /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf exists, but there is also a
| /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf.dpkg-new. tetex-base will be configured
| before tetex-bin. Because of the dpkg-new file, update-fmtutil called
| by tetex-base's postinst will ignore information in 01tetex.cnf, but
| it will not ignore 40jadetex.cnf which has no dpkg-new file.
|
| - tetex-base's postinst calls fmtutil --all, and - woosh - there's no
| information about the latex format which jadetex wants to load. Thus
| fmtutil and tetex-base's postinst will fail.
|
| The solution is to not load the pregenerated latex.fmt, but instead load
| latex.ltx in jadetex.ini
`

And now my solution breaks. I can think of a different solution: When
the basic TeX packages' postinst scripts run fmtutil, they first check
whether any .dpkg-new files exist in fmt.d which belong to an other
basic TeX package. If yes, they do nothing, because the postinst of
this package will later run fmtutil --all again.

However, that is only approximately how it would work. In fact it is
more difficult, I fear. If texlive-base-bin and texlive-latex-base are
upgraded in the same dpkg run, it would mean that tl-base-bin drops its
running fmtutil --all, but tl-latex-base would only run
fmtutil --byfmt latex and fmtutil --byfmt pdflatex.

So instead of dropping fmtutil -all completely, we would have to do
one of two things:

- either replace --all by a list of formats, and let the postinst figure
out which formats can be generated. This means that it would somehow
need to figure out, or be told about, the dependencies between formats

- or make fmtutil clever enough to not try to generate formats with
format arguments if that other format does not exist. Depending on
commandline options, it would stop or (in our case) issue a warning.

I haven't looked at the fmtutil code, but I think the second approach
might be better.

What do you think?

Regards, Frank

Bug#420003: Problem should be solved in 1.1.6

2007-04-19 Thread Matthias Cramer
Just noticed that 1.1.6 is out since 2006.04.12 which fixes this bug:

2006.04.12 Version 1.1.6 (sig) has been released. The focus of this release is
stability.
Feature Improvements

* Added more dictionaries

Bug Fixes

* Corrected typo in rlm_pap.c (closes #440)
* Corrected typo in src/main/auth.c (closes #437)
* Suppress SSL error messages if error is zero. (closes #436)
* Don't complain about Error in read client certificate A if we expect to
read it in the next packet. Fix based on patch by Dan Lukes.
* Corrected nearly 30 bugs found by Coverity See also
http://scan.coverity.com
* Don't die on HUP. Instead leak memory (sorry). After a few hundred HUP's,
the server will have leaked a few megabytes of memory, and you should probably
re-start it. It's ugly, but better than dying. (Closes #426)
* Corrected a few double free's
* Corrected typo in radrelay, which prevented it from working
* Made Firebird module build
* Fixed bug in PostgreSQL module that caused server crash.
* Fixed bug in SQL module that could cause server to crash.

Subject: kcontrol: kcm_knetworkconfmodule writes unreadable interfaces file
Package: kcontrol
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-5
Severity: normal

Using the KDE Network Settings control panel, change eth0 interface from
DHCP to Static IP. There is also a wireless eth2 on this machine using DHCP.
Disabled eth0 and created a Network Profile for the wireless connection eth2.
After applying the changes, the desktop became unstable and would not
restart properly (hangs) due to the loopback interface being down.

Error on ifup lo /etc/network/interfaces:10: misplaced option
ifup: couldn't read interfaces file /etc/network/interfaces

Contents of file follow:

---begin interfaces file
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface

netmask 255.0.0.0 -- line 11
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.103
netmask 255.255.255.0

As soon as the address and netmask lines were moved to the section under
iface lo and saved, it came up automatically and things worked as expected.
Thanks.

Well. If fixes the posted error, and allows the build to continue to
another error. I know absolutely nothing about mono, so I can't be of
 any further help here.

how could you solve the first issue?
I built this package last week or so and it was fine, using autoconf 2.5
(or so), is that a new restriction in autoconf 2.61 or do I need
something else as build-dep?

Hi ftp-masters,

Please remove schoolbell from the archive. Brian Sutherland (Uploader)
agreed (see below).

The package has been uninstallable for months, and it's not going to
change. This makes python2.4-schooltool uninstallable, but it is already
the case, and it is supposed to be fixed in a new upstream release of
schooltool.

Thank you

Upstream is is planning a release of schooltool, but not of schoolbell.

So, yes, I guess requesting the removal of schoolbell is the right
 course of action.

Bug#419903: openafs-client: aklog crashes with LWP: stack overflow in process IO MANAGER!

2007-04-19 Thread Christian Guggenberger
Can you try applying the following patch to the source package and
rebuilding? I don't have a Debian PPC system running AFS to easily test
with, but we think this may fix the problem.

FYI, I can confirm that the patch in question fixes the aklog problems on
ppc.

cheers.

Oh, sorry. I said in the the Subject: instead of in the message
itself. libtool is needed as build-dependency. I don't know what
introduced the need.

this one is easy, libmono-system-runtime2.0-cil is missing as
 build-depedency.

Cool! Then this bug can be solved, I guess.

Hi Adam,

This RC bug has been open for more than a year without any comment on
your side.

Have you considered removing the package from Debian, or orphaning it ?

Thank you,

Can you try applying the following patch to the source package and
rebuilding? I don't have a Debian PPC system running AFS to easily test
with, but we think this may fix the problem.

FYI, I can confirm that the patch in question fixes the aklog problems on
 ppc.

Excellent, thank you. I'll get it into the next release.

the given build-depends. The attached patch fixes that, by installing
texlive-extra-utils if tetex has been updated to a transistional
version.
Please verify if it has any (to me) unkown side effects.

Thank you!

Bug#420069: nspr: bad shlibs information exposed

2007-04-19 Thread Alexander Sack
Package: nspr
Tags: patch
Version: 4.6.6-2
Severity: serious

A typo or copy-paste error in debian/rules leads to bad shlibs
dependencies in packages that build against libnspr4-dev.

e.g. libnss3-0d has dependency on libnss3-0d = 1.8.0.10 instead of
libnspr4-0d.

Fix is checked in. Just bump version of changelog and reupload.

please take care that nss is respun too as current dependencies for
non i386 are broken.

I confirmed this behavior. This happens only when uim-common only is upgradeed
and
other uim related packages are not upgreaded.

This situation only becomes only when you take shotgun approach in upgrading.
It does not happen if all uim packages are in archive(In i386 uim cannot be
built
because of dbus problem. Check
http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=uimver=1%3A1.4.1-2arch=i386file=log

Therefore I close this bug.

Bug#419595: libpango1.0-udeb: undesirable new dependencies

I just noticed that the libpango udeb has gotten two new dependencies on
libraries so far not used in the installer: libdatrie0 and libthai0.

Is there any chance of building the udeb without the need for those libs?

In the mean time, we will not be able to build the installer until the
libs are either dropped or new udebs are created for them.

If you need to discuss this, please CC the debian-boot list.

AFAIK these libraries are only needed by the Thai language module, not
by the pango library itself.

I don't know how critical this module is to proper Thai support in the
installer. Theppitak, do you know about it?

If it is necessary to have it, we can split the thai module in a
separate udeb to avoid the dependency inflation. Otherwise, we can
simply remove it from the udeb.

Cheers,

I just see that the udeb has grown an extra dependency on
gtk2.0-binver-2.10.0. I suspect this is not going to work...

If you need to discuss this, please CC the debian-boot list.

Cheers,

Bug#419189: not due to ubuntu or knoppix

2007-04-19 Thread Craig Small

I do not believe the problem just stems from having foreign libraries in it,
as my system is stock Debian and I have a similar problem. No Ubuntu, no
knoppix, just straight Debian.

apt-get install (some packages) which pulled in a new libc, I think.

Now I get this:

There is something seriously bad going on here with the libraries.

No tokens are reported by the tokens program, and klist shows
a correct [EMAIL PROTECTED] ticket.

This makes the package unusuable since the purpose of the package is to
provide AFS file services to users, and without the ability to get
tokens, it is similarly not possible to use AFS effectively in almost
every environment.

Is this related perhaps to the end of linuxthreads in Debian?

It does not happen if all uim packages are in archive(In i386 uim cannot be

 Therefore I close this bug.

Hi Omote-san,

assuming that your shotgun theory is correct, shouldn't the packages
have relevant dependancies in place? Furthermore, shouldn't the bug be
reopend pending the addition of such dependancies? I'm currently
experiencing this problem as part of an apt-get upgrade, which isn't
really ideal.

Bug#419314: Switch to dh_gtkmodules for the gtk 2.10 transition

I've prepared a new upload for scim that is compatible with the new GTK+

(Let me know if you need sponsoring.)

It has be uploaded, but your offer is still appreciated.

Also the scim package has the same problem as gcin package, i.e.,
hardcoding the /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/ directory. In scim this is
done in quite a few different places, and as I don't know much about
autotools, hardcoding is the easiest way for me. If you think this is
very bad practice and can provide a patch, I'd be very happy to fix it.

Yes; the hardcoding comes from a Debian specific patch, but the
upstream configure already defines GTK_BINARY_VERSION, so it's not
too intrusive to change. I'm attaching you the updated patches and
interdiff which I hacked starting from 1.4.4-7 (unstable), but it
should apply to your SVN I suppose. I also fixed debian/rules and
  debian/scim-gtk2-immodule.install again here.

Thanks a lot for this quick and nice patch! I now have a good idea
about what should be done here to get rid of the hardcoding. As there
has been a new upstream release and I plan to do a new upload soon, I'll
incorporate your patch on the new upstream upload.

Could you try to bring this patch upstream? Upstream should be
installing in the ABI dependent dir anyway, otherwise their modules may
break silently when the IM Module ABI changes.

Upstream is aware of this issue. And IIRC there was discussion about
this but I forgot the details. I'll see what I can do.

A typo or copy-paste error in debian/rules leads to bad shlibs
dependencies in packages that build against libnspr4-dev.

 e.g. libnss3-0d has dependency on libnss3-0d = 1.8.0.10 instead of
 libnspr4-0d.

Note that this only breaks the dependencies, not the programs, since
libnss3-0d itself depends on libnspr4-0d, it will be installed anyways.

Fix is checked in. Just bump version of changelog and reupload.

I changed the shlib version. libnspr4-0d 1.8.0.10 is still okay to use
with binaries built against 4.6.6.

please take care that nss is respun too as current dependencies for
 non i386 are broken.

I will ask for binNMU, then (which will be a good occasion to see if
it's really binNMU-safe as intended).

Thanks

Mike

Bug#419595: libpango1.0-udeb: undesirable new dependencies

2007-04-19 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

On 4/20/07, Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

AFAIK these libraries are only needed by the Thai language module, not
by the pango library itself.

I don't know how critical this module is to proper Thai support in the
installer. Theppitak, do you know about it?

It provides proper line wrapping for Thai messages.
As Thai words are not delimited by spaces, missing it would
mean that some long continuous texts would exceed
screen boundary and be wrapped at random positions,
and the right margin of normal texts would be heavily
ragged, due to relative lack of line break positions.

OTOH, achieving it costs around 900 KB additional memory
(roughly measured by the difference between loading leafpad
with and without pango-thai-lang module).

So, it's a trade-off. If that's too much for marginal improvement,
we can drop it from d-i. (So far, I haven't heard users'
complaint about this on Etch installer yet. But I can't be sure
if that means they are OK with it. Not all of them install
Debian with GUI installer.)

If it is necessary to have it, we can split the thai module in a
separate udeb to avoid the dependency inflation. Otherwise, we can
simply remove it from the udeb.

IMO, this issue is not so critical, as long messages are rare
in d-i, compared to usual desktop apps, and we have the
whole screen as the space, not varying window sizes.
