Bug#539246: apache2: Incorrect password check with CRYPT

2009-07-29 Thread Alexander Over
Package: apache2.2-common
Version: 2.2.9-10+lenny4
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

If you create a User/Password combination with htpasswd using the default
CRYPT encryption and a password with more than 8 chars, the Website still
gets you access by typing in the first 8 chars or the complete password.

e.g. if you provide test42test as password, you can type in just test42te
to get access.

This bug affects x86 systems too.

Bug#539095: Ignore errors in testsuite run on mips.

2009-07-29 Thread Christian Hammers
Hello

For the record, mysql-dfsg-5.1-5.1.36 just passed the complete testsuite in a
sid chroot of:
 Linux mahler 2.6.26-2-r5k-ip32 #1 Mon Jul 27 09:22:35 UTC 2009 mips64 GNU/Linux

So as there is no general problem with MySQL on mips, it should be safe to have
the tests disabled until MySQL has entered testing and all migrations to the
new library have done. But then, maybe with the next MySQL upstream release,
we should try to re-enable it again.

I will try to reproduce this and figure out what happens.

For the moment I'm lowering severity to important because
the partitioning (with and without crypto) seems to be working
fine in general for the setups I tested today.

Bug#536909: NMU bubblemon 2.0.9-1.1

Hi,
yes, this might be better, but this is the work of the maintainer and not

If José is sending a RFH or RFA, than I can provide a package with a newer

Bug#536909: NMU bubblemon 2.0.9-1.1

2009-07-29 Thread Lars Eric Scheidler
Hi,

ok, I didn't use this applet (because I doesn't use gnome), but because I
will contribute to debian und this would be my first package, I would take
it. So the NMU isn't necessary, because in this case I can upload a new
  release of this software.

So, would You send a RFH (request of help)/RFA (request of adoption), so I
can help You by packaging the package or to take it.

Regards,
  Lars Eric

Bug#539228: partman freezes with encrypted partitions

2009-07-29 Thread da jedall
Package: debian-installer
Version: squeeze
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Tags: partman,luks,cryptsetup,encrypted

The bug does not occur on the system where bugreport is installed, because
this bug prevent me from installing debian

When i try to install debian squeeze on usb key (netinstall)
and when i try to create installation over encrypted fs in partman, partman
reload and freeze at 52% of loading.
The installation is in french ,partman works in french until the bug occurs.

Next partman crashes, and i have a message saying "loading partman 52%"
(in english this time!!) and all stay freezed at this point.

If i try to install the system without using encrypted fs ,it works.

The computer where i try to install debian squeeze is:

archos 10 (netbook)
ubuntu edition
2gb ram
500go hd
intel atom 1.6ghz

I am using the last version of squeeze netinstall at the 29 of july,
with the manual method syslinux,mbr-install + squeeze_net_install.iso on
 the usb key
The partitions are something like this :

1 primary ext3 not encrypted bootable /boot about 500M
5 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 15G
6 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 15G
7 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 15G
8 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 4G
9 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 4G
10 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 5G
11 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 4G
12 logical reserved for encrypted volume about 200G

and about 200gb unused
(capacity of the disk =500GB)

The bug has occured several times, but not exactly at the same moment:

First occur ,when i select sda5 and choosing to use it for encrypted volume
Second occur i noticed, all partitions are selected to be used as encrypted
volumes, next i choose "configuring encrypted volumes" , i configure the
first ones and when i reach about sda11 or sda12 the bug occurs

If i launch an extra shell on tty2 for instance
and using "ps aux"
i can see two processes involving partman
the first is something like "/bin/partman"
the second like "partman dump" (sorry i don t remember exactly)

if i kill the both, i have a message like "error occured in installation",
next i have the installation menu of debian
i select "partitionning" ,and it s the same thing "loading partman 52%"
 and freeze

After today's security patch for dbus-x11. On one of my 5 systems, X simply

start.

Now, when I start gdm, the screen goes blank, and a minute later, the monitor
powers off. No problems are reported. I have tried with kdm as well.

No, KMS is not required. UMS is still supported (but upstream probably
doesn't test it as much as KMS, so it might be more buggy). UMS was
working fine in 2.8-rc3 on my i945. Not sure I tested with 2.8 but still...

As Ikiwiki uses python-support it needs to use ${python:Depends} to depend on
the right version of python-support. At the moment ikiwiki fails to install
in testing as it was built with python-support > 1.0. Also ikiwiki uses
/usr/sbin/update-python-modules in postinst, so it needs this dependency
anyway.

Bug#539222: kdevelop: FTBFS: Conflicting Build-Depends

2009-07-29 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: kdevelop
Version: 4:3.5.4-1
Severity: serious

The kdevelop package Build-Depends on libdb4.6-dev, but also on libsvn-dev
which (indirectly through libaprutil1-dev) depends on libdb4.7-dev. So the
Build-Depends cannot be satisfied.

Yes, I know. :)
But the same freeze happens also with normal Lenny package. And the backport
is yours!

It will be a log before the freeze.
There is no log after the freeze (the thin client graphical interface froze
with no warnings and ssh connections just freeze along with everything else).

Even if it is before the freeze ?
I'm not familiar with gdb, but does something like running startx through gdb
(and then bt if it is not freezed) useful for you?
It will be done in a week or two.

Agreed. At least for e2fsprogs, the shlibs.local file predated my
adding the symbols file, and I never got around to deleting the
shlibs.local file.

Yes, I agree.

I'll make the change in e2fsprogs for libraries that are still
shipping as part of e2fsprogs, but it's up to Scott and LaMont to make
changes to the util-linux package in experimental.

Thank you for noticing this problem before it was moved to unstable

Why is the shlibs.local file needed at all? If the symbols files are updated
properly, that should be sufficient to generate correct dependencies.

I already talked to Scott and LaMont briefly about this.
Imho the symbols files should not be updated/generated automatically, but
manually, so you can actually track ABI breakages much more easily. Also, the
debian revision should be stripped away (unless a symbol was added by a Debian
revision specific patch), to make e.g. backports easier.

Hi,

I cannot reproduce this problem on an up-to-date lenny system.

To me this looks more like an Xorg problem. Can you reproduce the problem after
you have rebooted the system?

Could you check the log files, like /var/log/messages, syslog Xorg.0.log or
daemon.log

I would need to get a copy of the X.org log to see what happens.

I am intimately familiar with those as I used to work for Artec. It
could be a good idea to ask Artec for a BIOS update, since there were
some stability issues with the BIOS that shipped with those
preproduction DBE62D-700. Those were fixed during the development
cycle of the similar upcoming DBE63 model.

In that case, I'd like a full backtrace. Since the DBE62 can boot from
USB, you should be able to use 'reportbug' after booting from a
minimal OS running off a USB device. If you have all relevant debug
packages installed and use 'reportbug' it will automatically attach
useful debuging info which we could use to check what happens.

Package needs r-cran-vr and r-cran-colorspace to build from source. I believe
I have svn access to commit the fix and will do so. Ubuntu debdiff attached
(ignore the maintainer changes, the obviously aren't relevant).

I don't think this is release-critical. Let me go ahead with downgrading

OK, was quite “expected”. I would *guess* you have the funky ia32-*
packages installed? Which breaks quite horribly, due to stuff like
#533540.

Hopefully, someone should take over the packages, and put them back into
shape so that one can still use 32-bits stuff without having a system
broken beyond repair.

I *think* that a way for you to get libgphoto2 installed is to get rid
of all ia32-related packages, and then to try and finish its
configuration.

Good luck, I'm sorry that there's no much that I can do (besides merging
some patches by Martin Pitt, but that needs some testing and might take
some days, see #531979).

KiBi.

That is indeed correct: mdec.c contains source code from fpse. Some
of the code is free (the idct code), but most of the color space conversions
are not.

I've contacted the author to ask for a re-license under a free license.

Bug#539192: dbus-x11: X fails to start after the latest security patch!

2009-07-29 Thread Dave Goel
Package: dbus-x11

Justification: breaks the whole system

After today's security patch for dbus-x11. On one of my 5 systems, X simply
fails to restart. Before this, everything was working fine, and gdm would
start.

Now, when I start gdm, the screen goes blank, and a minute later, the monitor
powers off. No problems are reported. I have tried with kdm as well.

Bug#539163: Only enabling profiles with no auth leaves system wide open

2009-07-29 Thread Sam Hartman
Honestly I'd rather think about fixing it than argue about bug
severities. I would probably have treated all of these as
grave/critical, but I don't care much.
As far as I can tell, the bug severity doesn't matter much:

1) They are all in testing already
2) We agree they want to be fixed
3) We plan to fix all the above before the freeze in December
4) The release team would find it easier to get this fixed than remove pam.

So, while I personally think they are all RC, I'm also happy if you
want to downgrade.
If we end up uploading before this is fixed, well, incremental improvement is
good.

Bug#539178: xserver-xorg-video-geode: complete freeze of a geode client (thincan DBE61)

2009-07-29 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: xserver-xorg-video-geode
Version: 2.11.1-1~bpo50+1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hello,

I use LTSP 5 on Debian Lenny. clients are good old PC working perfectly and 4
Thincan DBE62. The Thincan DBE62 randomly freeze several time a day.
The freeze happened randomly, using Iceweasel (mozilla seamonkey), kmail,
openoffice, konqueror, Adobe's flash, ... even with screensaver.

The Thincan DBE-62 has a Geode LX700 microprocessor and 256 MB of ram. Exact
model is DBE62D-700 - see http://wiki.thincan.org/DBE62
We don't use flat-screen (I changed that in the Thincan's bios but it has no
effect).

I have tried various solutions suggested on the web (including from Martin-Eric
Racine blog and Launchpad.net bug reports), even if it has little simlilarity
with my
problem, but nothing works.

The chroot is up to date (last lenny packages), geode driver is the last one
fom backports.org (xserver-xorg-video-geode 2.11.1-1~bpo50+1), but previous
packages were
freezing the system also. The geode-dbg package is also installed.

Here's the last LTSP lts.conf

aptitude, upgrade, aptitude dist-upgrade":

It may be related to udev.
The release-notes have a specifi chapter about the kernel upgrade at
http://www.debian.org/releases/lenny/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html#newkernel

It assumes udev and initramfs are present, and give some example of
device enumeration reordering.

and waiting for the user to provide input.

What *exactly* happens when you execute the following both commands in a
new emtpy directory?

$ lh_config \

$ lh_build

Excuse me, but exactly how is a fully automated run of lpadmin
supposed to qualify as user prompting?

That's against a rather old version of the same package.

Bug#538017: libaqhbci13: Impossible to print INI-Letter

As far as I can see the patch also fixes this bug for AqBanking 3.6.2,
but apparently reveals another one (see below). Martin, can you please
confirm that the backtrace below is not related to the issue with the
infinitely recursing print() function?

Do you have any idea regarding the new crash? What term should I search
the mailinglist/SVN commit log for?

With the patch applied to AqBanking 3.6.2 I get the following
crash/backtrace when trying to print the customer's INI letter

Do you think this needs to be treated as serious, given that this isn't a
state users will end up in automatically (unlike the previous iteration of

Version: 2.5.0-4
Justification: Policy 3.9.1
Severity: serious

*** Please type your report below this line ***

cups-pdf requires user interaction because of calling lpadmin in the
postinst script. This violates Debian policy "3.9.1 Prompting in
maintainer scripts". Quote: "Prompting must be done by communicating
through a program, such as debconf, which conforms to the Debian
Configuration Management Specification, version 2 or higher."

This bug breaks automatic build of Debian Live images:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2009/07/msg00113.html

The same issue is also filed against the Ubuntu package:

Bug#504283: egroupware adoption or removal?

while I was (and I am still) interested in maintaing these packages, I
could not find enough time in order to really work on it.

I am afraid I am not the only one since, if I remember correctly, Peter
clearly stated that he received many offers for working on the package,
but no one was really helping. So he decided to open the maintenance in
order to see if anyone would really work on it.

Now the package has been orphaned, so, if you have time to spend on this
package, please adopt it.

Bye,
Giuseppe

Bug#538283: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Xorg eat too much resources

2009-07-29 Thread Tomas Frydrych

I got to the bottom of my problem; the intel 2.8 driver requires KMS
enabled, and it is not out of the box. Adding i915.modeset=1 to the
kernel command line fixed this.

Could you please try to run the postinst script with -x? That would be:
$ sudo sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/libgphoto2-2.postinst configure

(BTW I can read German, but please think about setting LANG=C ;))

Just to make sure what's happening.

Thanks in advance.

libblkid1 version 2.16-2 is in experimental, and is generated from
sources in util-linux-ng (aka util-linux version 2.16), and no longer
from e2fsprogs. I don't think (in fact I'm pretty sure) the BTS isn't
smart enough to send this report to the util-linux maintainers instead
of the e2fsprogs maintainer (me).

Scott, LaMont, could you subscribe to this bug, and handle it, please?
As Michael pointed out in a subsequent e-mail to this bug, it's a
failure in the shlibs file. The libblkid 1.x packages do not provide
any symbols with the @UUID_1.0 symbol version, and so the shlibs file
needs to be adjusted to point this out.

Thanks, regards,

- Ted

Dear Taro,

Thank you for the bug report. Could you please confirm that merely
renaming the file as follows helps?

sudo mv /usr/share/pyshared/numpy/core/include/numpy/numpycfunc.h
/usr/share/pyshared/numpy/core/include/numpy/cfunc.h

I have already made a fix, and if you confirm this, I shall upload
this to stable-proposed-updates.

Thanks!

Bug#539153: Clean target makes package not fit for release

2009-07-29 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: wims

Stuff like:

# if the orig.tar.gz fil exists, use a very fast clean method.
# otherwise use a slower and less safe method (make clean does
not # really clean everything).
if [ -f $(ORIGTARGZ) ]; then \
rm -rf wims Makefile po patch-stamp *.conf texgd-examples; \
  rm -rf debian/patched; \
  tar xzf $(ORIGTARGZ) --strip 1; \
else \
  if [ -f Makefile ]; then $(MAKE) clean; fi; \
  dpatch deapply-all; \
fi

.. is really not cool. Please fix/supplement upstream's clean target
instead of doing that.

Package: babel
Version: 1.4.0.dfsg-2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

  Function `sidl_rmi_ObjectDoesNotExistException__create' implicitly converted
to pointer at sidlx_common.c:260

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

Hmm, apparently the package got in stable-security by mistake.
Reassigning this bug to ftp.debian.org for removal of the

If you want to build-conflict on a specific version of a build-essential
package, you should also build-depend on the working version; otherwise
sbuild will try to remove the package, rather than upgrade it. Not what
we want :-)

(sorry if this bug was already filed or the package fixed -- I'm offline
right now)

Hi Marco,

in 4.33 you demoted ifupdown to a Recommends. If Recommends are setup to
not be installed by default (e.g. in build chroot), netbase now fails to
install, because insserv is now the default, and the LSB header of
/etc/init/networking has a strict dependency on ifupdown.

You should either dump the dependency again or make ifupdown an optional
dependency (Should-Start,Should-Stop) in the LSB header.

I've attached a patch for the latter.

Cheers,
Michael

So sysvinit now Depends on insserv adding insserv to all chroots.

If I no try to install netbase in a chroot that has insserv, I
get:
Setting up netbase (4.36) ...

Configuration file `/etc/services'
==> File on system created by you or by a script.
==> File also in package provided by package maintainer.
==> Using current old file as you requested.

Configuration file `/etc/protocols'

==> File also in package provided by package maintainer.
==> Using current old file as you requested.
insserv: Service ifupdown has to be enabled to start service
networking
insserv: exiting now!
dpkg: error processing netbase (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 1

The ifupdown package is not installed, it's only recommended.

This chroot does not have to set up any networking, this is
already set up outside the chroot, and the only thing it
could possible do is screw up things.

(I'm not sure where that services file comes from, I certainly
never edited it, and at first look seems to be the one from
the package with the comments removed.)
