Bug#664990: More information

2012-03-29 Thread Henri Salo
More information from Timo Warns:

- Only libzip 0.10 is affected.
- Stefan Cornelius has identified the precise commits that introduced the
vulnerabilities:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=802564
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803028
- As PHP and zipruby include older versions of libzip, they are not
affected by the issues.

Bug#666148: mendexk: Links statically against libkpathsea

2012-03-29 Thread Philipp Kern
Package: mendexk
Version: 2.6e-3
Severity: serious

According to the build log, mendexk links statically against libkpathsea:

| # Add here commands to compile the package.
| /usr/bin/make PROGLINK=\$(CC) \$(OBJS) -o \$(PROGRAM) \
| /usr/lib/libkpathsea.a

mendex /usr/lib/libkpathsea.a
| make[1]: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/mendexk-2.6e'
| touch build-stamp

I can't seem to find a rationale for this in the changelog. I hence presume
that this is unnecessary and in fact a policy violation. The package does not
adopt a dependency on libkpathsea5 (or libkpathsea6, for that matter) despite
build-depending on it. Please change that to dynamic linkage for all the
goodness of Debian.

Kind regards
Philipp Kern

Bug#665388: libperlbal-xs-httpheaders-perl: FTBFS: C code doesn't load reliably

2012-03-29 Thread Jonathan Steinert

I've studied this sufficiently now, thanks gregor :)

I've tested this out on a few machines I have, but the build is still
failing in kfreebsd64, but now for a different reason. (dh_md5sums fails)

I'm going to mark this for release and close this bug up because all the
machines I could test on cleared up. I'll watch the build status for the
machines that I don't have.

Do you really think this option will actually be used in practice,

Well... not really. I'm doing some tests on my own though.

Anyway, you can upload to security-master when ready. You must build
the package with specifying the -sa flag, on a squeeze system.

Ok, thank you.

Just noticed that this means i386 on amd64 kernel. No problem with above line.

Random behavior of this bug is highly puzzling, currently I can just
think about getting more info in case something becomes evident with
it.

Anton, which are the details of the i386 system where you reproduced
the bug (system info section of reportbug --template -b gnuplot)?
Ditto for Vincent ppc box.

For the records, I also built gnuplot 4.6 in a pbuilder squeeze chroot
and tested it under squeeze/stable. No general segfault, just the same
problem reported by Vincent in #665432. Tested both with 686 and amd64

I beleive the issues you raised here are fixed in the uploads made by
Jonas. Unstable has now 0.5.2. Besides, there is no need to tag this
bug wheezy since version tracking tells us where the issue lives.

If you still have other issues to report, please do so in separate
bugreports.

Bug#587544: is basket abandoned?

2012-03-29 Thread Mehdi Dogguy
There is an RC bug reported against basket two years ago, and still
open. AFAICS, there is no answer from the maintainers on the bugreport.
Is basket still maintained?

Besides, I'm not sure about the severity. Upstream seems to have a
workaround. IIUC, the notes are not really disappearing but just not
shown (only shown after a restart). The maintainer could reduce the
severity to important if he desires so.

Regards,

Bug#666176: tracker-miner-evolution: evo miner hangs on startup, totally nonfunctional

2012-03-29 Thread Daniel Stone
Package: tracker-miner-evolution
Version: 0.14.0-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,
Sorry, I feel like a bit of a tool reporting an RC bug as my first bug
in pretty much forever, but ... whenever I have tracker-miner-evolution
installed, evolution just plain refuses to start, being totally hung.

I've inlined a gdb backtrace to the end of the message showing that the
miner is the cause. Even leaving it for an hour didn't result in
Evolution ever starting (judging from the backtrace, the timeout on the
D-Bus method call is near on 25 days). I'm sure this bug report is
pretty useless on the face of it, so please let me know how I can get
you more details to help debug it.

As it is, I've had to remove the Evolution plugins that this package
installs (given I can't uninstall it without also removing
gnome-documents) to be able to start evolution at all.

Cheers,
Daniel

There must be something different, because in gdb, I don't get the

severity to important if he desires so.

There are still ways to loose data. If you paste a note and clic on it while
it appears as empty, it is actually deleted (it disappears once you select
something else). If you sill have the cut note in memory you can re-paste it,
but that is not always the case (e.g. if you copy or cut another note in the
 meanwhile).

Did you try to reproduce with basket versioned 1.81 from experimental?

There's no obvious pattern to the set of architectures on which the
test fails, which includes (linux-)i386 and kfreebsd-amd64 but not
(linux-)amd64, hurd-i386, or kfreebsd-i386, so I suspect that some
sort of random factor may be involved; perhaps the C code isn't
properly initializing some memory contents. (If so, valgrind may be
able to help catch the problem.)

Could you please take a look?

Thanks!

Le jeudi 29 mars 2012 16:47:22, Mehdi Dogguy a écrit :
Did you try to reproduce with basket versioned 1.81 from experimental?

I didn't see there was a new version, but it was a good hint: I just tested
and the bug seems fixed. Is there a reason why basket 1.81 is still in
experimental since 2010? The changelog just mentions “new upstream release”.

Apparently, basket 1.80 == 2.0 beta 1, and 1.81 == 2.0 beta 2, so there is no
reason to keep 1.81 out of unstable because it's a beta version, since the
current version is also a beta. Plus there is no newer upstream version.

Cheers,
  Matteo

I noticed that approx stopped working after I upgraded my testing

connection refused. After investigation, it turns out that the reason
what I no longer had any package provising system-log-daemon on my
system; approx absolutely needs one to run. This dependency should be
explicit in debian/control.

[I've been running without a system-log-daemon for two weeks without
noticing anything wrong, until today with approx. The fact that no
package providing system-log-daemon has a priority higher than
important is another issue.]

Bug#663182: Possible solution

I'd like to bring few more arguments to consideration.

And we should finally resolve this question :)

I forgot to CC to David Paleino when I posted my idea of wrapper script so I
wrote to him and he replied with another good argument:
I think that, while the wrapper script is a good technical solution, it'll
vastly reduce the usefulness of the package, and it will diverge it from
what upstream distributes. This way we introduce a delta between Debian
(and its derivatives) and all other *nix distributions with that package.
We can consider this important or not, but we should take it into
consideration IMVHO.

The same is true for libmysql-diff-perl :)

Anyway, I'm fine with renaming our mysqldiff to something else, my
current favourite being mysqlschemadiff. Comments?

Two thoughts:
- In case we got that way mysql-utilities should probably
  Breaks/Replaces the then old libmysql-diff-perl
- 664120 should probably cloned to mysql-utilities

A bit related question:
Does the test time matter for Debian or Linux packaging?

With models that require a large number of iterations to solve and other
slower methods, our test suite is getting a bit slow (for my taste).

2012-03-29 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko

Does the test time matter for Debian or Linux packaging?

I don't remember what is the cut-off for extremely long build-times but
it is hours (if not days), so I don't think that time issue is
relevant for pystatsmodels at the moment ;)

With models that require a large number of iterations to solve and other
slower methods, our test suite is getting a bit slow (for my taste).

yeah -- faster they are the better ;-) but stability is imho even more
valuable

2012-03-29 Thread Francesco De Vita

Package: libhdf5-lam-1.8.4
Version: 1.8.4-patch1-3
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
I'm trying to install this package to get the virtual package libhdf5-1.8.4,
needed in my case to get Xcos (in Scilab) work.
But aptitude says:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libhdf5-lam-1.8.4: Conflicts: libhdf5-1.8 which is a virtual package.
libhdf5-7: Conflicts: libhdf5-1.8 which is a virtual package.
Conflicts: libhdf5-1.8.4 which is a virtual package.
The action requires to remove libhdf5-7 and other packages that I need,
so I'm

unable to install it.

I don't know where you get this version of hdf5 both testing (wheezy)
and unstable have version 1.8.8-9

libhdf5-lam-1.8.4 has been removed a while ago.

Please update to hdf5 1.8.8.

Bug#659775: simple fix, for a user anyway.

2012-03-29 Thread anthony
hi, just stumbled across this since i was looking at samba4

just rm/mv smb.conf which is installed by the older samba packages at the same
time as samba4.

so apt-get install samba4: err
rm /etc/samba/smb.conf
apt-get install samba4

now, in relation to this error :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba4/+bug/832465/comments/12
suggests:
/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.1.1 svrwebdev.letsxchange.nl svrwebdev
/etc/hostname
svrwebdev.letsxchange.nl

which fixes the same problem for other people.

there seems to be two traps people are falling into. one old smb.conf they want
migrated with bad options, fresh smb.conf they don't need and samba4 should
ignore or have the default for the old samba packages corrected.

the default local domain is usually a single prefix .local .config etc. This
also seems to be a problem for samba4, which wants lan.config local.lan etc,
due to the AD DNS type prefixing.

now i installed without changing the DNS files as advised above(but using a
local.lan as the local dns prefix), i'm not 100% everything is working, but i
will show the relevant output incase just setting a correct internal dns /
hostname is not the same as hostname/hosts fixes above.

Adding DomainDN: DC=local,DC=lan
Creating CN=MicrosoftDNS,CN=System,DC=local,DC=lan
Server Role : domain controller
Hostname: correct
DNS Domain: local.lan
NetBIOS Domain: WORKGROUP m$ default? set it to DNS Domain, without the
prefix?
DOMAIN SID: generated correctly.
Admin password: really secure.

so in closing, only smb.conf removal seems to be required as well as local.lan
style dns prefix instead of just single .local
Please correct me if I am wrong, and at least it seems the fixes are trivial.

Bug#662628: Problem goes away, for me, if I remove 'control=notify:growl' from ~/.config/vlc/vlcrc

2012-03-29 Thread Adam Sjøgren
I experienced this same problem after I upgraded packages on my unstable
desktop recently: VLC would freeze upon startup and the only recourse
was to kill -KILL it.

Following the advice of Bernat Arlandis I tracked down the line in
~/.config/vlc/vlcrc causing the problem on my machine.

Having the line (written by a previous version of VLC):

  control=notify:growl

makes VLC 2.0.1-3 exhibit the problem on my machine. Removing that lines
fixes it; VLC plays video just fine again.

  Best regards,

Adam

I think that, while the wrapper script is a good technical solution,

Hmm, asc 2.4.0.0-2 does not depend on paragui, so I don't get how it
manages to FTBFS like that... Are you really sure you are recompiling

Anyway, clearly this bug is invalid, so closing.

Bug#666225: configure:3028: error: xmllint not found

2012-03-29 Thread Michael Biebl
Source: deja-dup
Version: 20.2-2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

Hi,

deja-dup uses the yelp help system for it's documentation.

The configure check for YELP_INIT checks for itstool and xmllint.
Your package only build-depends on itstool, though.

With the upcoming release of libglib2.0-dev, which no longer has a
dependency on libxml2-utils, your package is FTBFS (build log attached).

I'd suggest build-depending on yelp-tools instead of itstool.
The yelp-tools package dependends on all necessary tools required to
build yelp based projects.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#666227: tgif: fails to install, remove, distupgrade, and install again

2012-03-29 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: tgif
Version: 1:4.2.5-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install
(in 'squeeze'), remove (but not purge), distupgrade to 'wheezy',
and install again.
Before the second installation the package is in config-files-remaining
state. The configuration is remaining from the last version that was
successfully configured - which is from the previous release.

Like a plain failure on initial install this makes the package too buggy
for a release, thus the severity.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  Setting up tgif (1:4.2.5-1) ...

  Configuration file `/etc/X11/app-defaults/Tgif'
== Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
== Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
  Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
  N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.

Hi,

libsbml's control file contains the following in the libsbml5-octave
stanza:

Depends: ${shlibs:Depends},
 ${misc:Depends},
 octave3.2,
 libc6 (=2.4)

Aside from the last entry being redundant (it will get added via
shlib:Depends if needed) and there being no obvious reason for its
inclusion, it's also broken on architectures where the C library runtime
package isn't libc6 - e.g. ia64, kfreebsd-* and hurd-i386.

Regards,

Adam

Dear Maintainer,

The listed version of torus-trooper fails to start with the following error
message:

Error: circular initialization dependency with module abagames.tt.shape

The same error message is encountered trying to start torus-trooper-pure
from the torus-trooper-pure package.

Bug#666230: libldap-2.4-2: ldap_result returns -1 when called from sssd

2012-03-29 Thread Juha Jäykkä
Package: libldap-2.4-2
Version: 2.4.28-1.2
Severity: serious
Tags: upstream patch
Justification: breaks unrelated software on the system (which is rc-critical as
per http://release.debian.org/wheezy/rc_policy.txt)

After an upgrade from 2.4.25, sssd ldap lookups stop working due to ldap_result
returning -1 even on success.

Please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/929888 for
details on the bug and

Bug#666237: typo3-dummy: prompting due to modified conffiles which where not modified by the user

2012-03-29 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: typo3-dummy
Version: 4.5.14+dfsg1-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed the piuparts
upgrade test because dpkg detected a conffile as being modified and then
prompted the user for an action. As there is no user input, this fails.
But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt
shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile
at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded...

This is a violation of policy 10.7.3, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3,
which says [These scripts handling conffiles] must not ask unnecessary
questions (particularly during upgrades), and must otherwise be good
citizens.

http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling should help with figuring
out how to do this properly.

In http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00675.html and
followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with
severity serious.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  Setting up typo3-dummy (4.5.14+dfsg1-1) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/typo3-dummy/apache-vhost.conf ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/typo3-dummy/apache-directory.conf

  Configuration file `/etc/typo3-dummy/localconf.php'
== Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
== Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
  Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
  N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.

This was observed during an update from wheezy to sid.

Andreas

Bug#666239: libboost-timer1.49-dev: fails to upgrade from 'testing' - trying to overwrite /usr/lib/libboost_timer.a

Version: 1.49.0-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'testing'.
It installed fine in 'testing', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

Bug#663217: zenmap's sys.path includes /tmp locations

the zenmap script modifies its sys.path to include
 '/tmp/nmap-5.21/debian/tmp/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/', which is
inserted at build time from setyp.py.

Thank you for the report. This is indeed a problem if you initially
build and install into a world-writeable directory
(e.g. /tmp/nmap-5.21/debian) and then copy the files elsewhere as part
of a distribution. This feature is meant to set the module path for
cases where people install Nmap in nondefault (but secure) locations,
such as their home directory. But it isn't a very important feature,
and we may be able to support that in other ways. So we have removed
the set_modules_path function and the call to it from
nmap/zenmap/setup.py in our source code repository. That change will
be in future Nmap releases, and here is the patch:

Bug#665899: [Pkg-opennebula-devel] Bug#665899: opennebula: uninstallable on arches without ruby-sqlite3

Hi,

Hi Adam,

After the recent package restructuring, opennebula is uninstallable on
any architecture where ruby-sqlite3 does not exist - currently mips,
powerpc, s390 and sparc. (Specifically opennebula depends on
opennebula-tools, which depends on ruby-opennebula, which depends on
ruby-sqlite3.)

Hum... not sure to understand issue here.

Old opennebula 2.x package had a Depends on libsqlite3-ruby too but this
package was built on all arch [1]. Since new ruby-sqlite3 rename (and
new upstream release) it seems to FTBFS on some arch [2].

I fail to see how I can improve things in OpenNebula package.
