Bug#754341: ceph command hangs in Jessie after update (python 2.7.8 suspected)
Package: ceph Version: 0.80.1-1+b1 Severity: Critical Hello, this is a Jessie machine, part of a Jessie based Ceph cluster. After doing a minor update today (40 odd packages) the ceph command hangs just before returning to the command prompt like this: --- # ceph -s cluster d6b84616-ff3e-4b04-b50b-bd398d7fa69a health HEALTH_OK monmap e1: 3 mons at {c-admin=10.0.0.10:6789/0,ceph-01=10.0.0.41:6789/0,ceph-02=10.0.0.42:6789/0}, election epoch 86, quorum 0,1,2 c-admin,ceph-01,ceph-02 osdmap e1676: 4 osds: 4 up, 4 in pgmap v4135542: 1152 pgs, 3 pools, 699 GB data, 182 kobjects 1358 GB used, 98819 GB / 100178 GB avail 1152 active+clean client io 525 kB/s wr, 132 op/s [hangs indefinitely until ctrl-c] --- This update include python 2.7.8 as in: --- Preparing to unpack .../python2.7_2.7.8-1_amd64.deb ... Bug#754340: Unable to run fsck manually when instructed to do so
Package: systemd-sysv Version: 204-14 Severity: critical Justification: impossible to boot system (The severity seems inflated, but it didn't fit any of the lower RC levels and it should be RC IMO. It is also pretty easy to fix, I hope, so I'd suggest doing that instead of worrying about the proper severity.) My system had some serious hard drive problems and because of that remounted my root file system read-only. Before investigating anything, I rebooted the system to see if that would solve anything. On reboot, fsck was run and it failed, telling me to run it manually. Then it provided me a shell. So far so good. However, fsck / failed because the filesystem was mounted read-write. mount / -o remount,ro failed because the filesystem was busy. This being my only computer at that moment, I did not have internet to look up how to do this in systemd (which I'm guessing has a way to make remounting read-only work, but I'm not familiar with it). The only reason I was able to continue, was that after some trying it hit a bad file and automatically remounted the filesystem read-only. At that point, I could run fsck and it would boot again, allowing me to proceed with diagnosing the problem. My suggested solution is to document the method for remounting the root filesystem read-only (or the method for getting help on the commands that do such things) in the error message that says fsck must be run manually, or perhaps whenever a shell is spawned so early during boot. This is essential to be able to rescue the system, and since it's changed compared to how it worked for decades, you can't assume that everyone knows how to do it. This is even more important given systemd's dependency scheme which installs it on machines where the owner isn't aware of it. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.14-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages systemd-sysv depends on: ii systemd 204-14 systemd-sysv recommends no packages. systemd-sysv suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I tried rebuilding the current openmsx-catapult package with the B-D updated, but the build fails. The PTS shows a newer upstream release (0.10.1). The upstream ChangeLog appears to be unmaintained, but I had a quick look at the code and saw that "wxSAVE" had been updated to "wxFD_SAVE", which suggests they've fixed it to work with wx3.0 (this is one of the most common changes that needs to be made). If you hit any problems with getting packages working with wxwidgets3.0 which you can't overcome, let me know and I'll try to help. Cheers, Olly --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 0.10.1-1 I forgot to close this bug in the changelog of the last upload; the new upstream release fixes it. The attached patch works around it by using gcc-4.8 instead. Interestingly, even gcc-4.9 at -O0 seems to fail, but in different ways. (The test suite fails loading APR.so because of missing symbols.) I seem to have problems with building this in cowbuilder, where starting the test suite just hangs. sbuild works fine, however. Could somebody please try it out on pbuilder/cowbuilder too? Bug#754310: netgen: meshing a STEP file makes X crash
Package: netgen Version: 4.9.13.dfsg-8+b1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hello, I cannot generate a mesh on a geometry described in a STEP file without experiencing X crashes that force me to reboot the machine. I can reproduce the issue as follows: • take a STEP file, for instance $ zcat /usr/share/doc/netgen-doc/examples/frame.step.gz > frame.step • start NETGEN $ netgen frame.step • click on "Generate Mesh" • minimize the window and then maximize it again At that point, X crashes and I lose my session. The keyboard is unresponsive and I cannot even switch to a virtual terminal in order to login again. I have to press the power button in order to initiate a shutdown of the machine... Bug#753993: lyx: SIGSEGV when saving a new LyX file resulting in data loss
The development of the 2.0.x series of LyX was closed with the release of 2.0.8.1. There will be no further bug fixes upstream, and I don't think it makese sense to try debian specific fixes. Unfortunately LyX 2.1.0 suffers from a more serious crash which is extremely difficult to reproduce, but has been seen by several people, see http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/9049. I doubt it has anything to do with this report, but I mention it for completeness. Thanks, Georg -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Control: severity -1 important Hello, the oldest version of freemind in Debian's archive is 0.9.0. Although your frustration about this bug is understandable, the application is not unusable. It is still possible to create new mindmaps or to use existing ones, if they were created with versions of Freemind in Debian. Packaging the latest upstream release is the best way forward which should fix this bug too. Severity important is thus more appropriate. That is a bit odd. The SysV should only be run once the networking service init script has started. The problem most likely here is, that you use allow-hotplug. You'd need something like [1] which actively blocks until you actually have a network connection. Anyway, since apparently your shorewall.service is *not* successfully started during boot, the "service shorewall status && service shorewall restart" workaround will indeed not work. In that case you could apply the same workaround that was done for the mountnfs hook, i.e. do not trigger a restart of the shorewall service while the networking init script is still being started, i.e. network.target job is currently being scheduled and not yet running. So, try to guard your restarts like this: === if [ -d /run/systemd/system ]; then systemctl list-jobs | grep -q network.target && exit 0 fi service shorewall restart service shorewall6 restart === [1] http://people.debian.org/~biebl/ifupdown-wait-online.tar.gz -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#754158: blueman: blueman-applet says pulseaudio is too old
It was <2014-07-09 śro 14:57>, when Christopher Schramm wrote: > I'm absolutely with you. Unfortunately stable branches only receive > security related bug fixes. OK, I am not the one to decide and I accept Debian's got its rules, however, in my humble opinion anything called stable shouldn't ship software that does work at all and backports sources (as far as I remember) are not configured in apt by default. OK, I've got blueman from backports and I've got backports in my sources (actually I had it for quite some time but I set its priority low not to get updates from there automatically) *and* thaks to you I've learnt that I should always check backports (I am still somewhat reluctant to accepting backported versions automatically, am I wrong). All this probably means that this report isn't relevant any more and should be closed. Bug#754218: boot hangs forever on LSB job "raise network interfaces"
Thanks for your analysis, it explains what's happening. On Wed, Jul 09, 2014 at 01:18:33AM +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: > Am 09.07.2014 01:14, schrieb Michael Biebl: > > So, what to do about this: I'd say it's a bug to (re)start a SysV init > > script from an if-up.d hook without actually checking if the service is > > actually already runnig. > > Because you simply disregard any dependencies which have been specified > > in the LSB header. > > You'd need something like systemd's try-restart, i.e. only restart a > service if already running. > > Something like > service shorewall status && service shorewall restart > > should have a similar effect. I've tried this, and it does make the boot complete successfully. However, as a consequence, the shorewall service is not running after boot (because for some reason it fails to properly start the first time), and will never be running again unless I explicitly "start" it manually (because the test on the left hand side of && will always be false). Arguably, this might be a bug in shorewall's init script (that shouldn't fail at boot) or, more likely, due to the fact that shorewall lacks a service description that tells systemd to retry running it later on, when the network is available. If you've any idea/tip about this, I'd appreciate. In the meantime, feel free to deal as you please with this bug. Bug#754257: [kdm] Cannot Log In -- Cannot Access Dbus Session
Package: kdm Version: 4:4.8.4-6 Severity: grave --- Please enter the report below this line. --- As per request of maintainer, submitting new bug here. Note that this is being done from the live DVD. Made new 64bit install from this DVD. I have complaints about how the partitions were set up but this is irrelevant to kdm. At first, the system worked perfectly. Then I attempted to upgrade to Sid. As kde packages were being held, I did not upgrade any of these. However, some upgrade rendered kde inoperative. Whenever a login is attempted from kdm, the pane simply blinks and new login offered. The kdm.log complains: "unable to access dbus session ..." Thinking I needed kde/kdm upgrades as well, succeeded in doing this. So now 4.4.11-* like I had on my previous 32-bit Sid. Problem persists. First suspicion: No space left on /var. Culprit is not runaway mail files or logs--it is the apt cache. Cleaned that, 55% free. However, the problem persists. Information below refers to the live DVD. Some of this was upgraded to Sid, triggering the problem. --- System information. --- Architecture: amd64 Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 Debian Release: 7.5 500 stable security.debian.org 500 stable http.debian.net --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ===-+-=== kde-runtime | 4:4.8.4-2 libc6 (>= 2.11) | 2.13-38+deb7u1 libck-connector0 (>= 0.2.1) | 0.4.5-3.1 libdbus-1-3 (>= 1.0.2) | 1.6.8-1+deb7u1 libkdecore5 (>= 4:4.8) | 4:4.8.4-4 libkdeui5 (>= 4:4.8) | 4:4.8.4-4 libkio5 (>= 4:4.8) | 4:4.8.4-4 libknewstuff3-4 (>= 4:4.8) | 4:4.8.4-4 libkworkspace4abi1 (= 4:4.8.4-6) | 4:4.8.4-6 libpam0g (>= 0.99.7.1) | 1.1.3-7.1 libqimageblitz4 (>= 1:0.0.4) | 1:0.0.6-4 libqt4-svg (>= 4:4.5.3) | 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 libqt4-xml (>= 4:4.5.3) | 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 libqtcore4 (>= 4:4.7.0~beta1) | 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 libqtgui4 (>= 4:4.8.0) | 4:4.8.2+dfsg-11 libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1) | 4.7.2-5 libx11-6 | 2:1.5.0-1+deb7u1 libxau6 | 1:1.0.7-1 libxdmcp6 | 1:1.1.1-1 libxtst6 | 2:1.2.1-1+deb7u1 debconf (>= 0.5) | 1.5.49 OR debconf-2.0 | lsb-base (>= 3.2-14) | 4.1+Debian8+deb7u1 consolekit | 0.4.5-3.1 kde-workspace-kgreet-plugins (= 4:4.8.4-6) | 4:4.8.4-6 adduser | 3.113+nmu3 kde-wallpapers-default | 4:4.8.4-1 Recommends (Version) | Installed ==-+-=== logrotate | 3.8.1-4 xserver-xorg | 1:7.7+3~deb7u1 OR xserver | kde-workspace | 4:4.8.4-6 OR x-session-manager | OR x-window-manager | xterm | 278-4 OR x-terminal-emulator | Suggests (Version) | Installed =-+-=== kdepasswd | 4:4.8.4-2 kde-wallpapers | 4:4.8.4-1

Bug#754177: stumpwm does not work if `cl-asdf' is not installed.

Do you think otherwise? Hi Milan, I understand `Recommends' as: `the program works properly but you can't probably do much with it without this other package'. That's the case e.g. with `bison' without a compiler. I just tried the "default" installation (no Lisp previously installed) of `stumpwm' and the program does not run. That's not nice, IMHO. Maybe the `Depends' directive could be changed from: Depends: clisp-module-clx | cl-clx-sbcl | cmucl-source, cl-ppcre to Depends: clisp-module-clx | cl-clx-sbcl | cmucl-source, cl-ppcre, cl-clx-sbcl | cl-asdf, ... if `cl-asdf' is always necessary unless when using SBCL. The `...' means: repeat for other Lisps which don't need the external `cl-asdf' to run `stumpwm'.
