I don't think wish is the right name. Unless you're familiar with tk (as
opposed to just trying to get it installed), you may not know that the tk
 interperter is named wish.

yes, the tk interpreter is named wish, and any package providing such a
tk interpreter, should provide wish ? was my request do inclear
formulated ? currently all packages, that will work with any version of
tcl (any version of tk), require tcl | tcl7.0 | tcl7.4 | tcl7.6 (require
tk | tk4.0 | tk4.1 | tk4.2) but it would be easier to require tclsh :
that means any package providing a tclsh (wish : any package providing
a tksh). this way all tcl (tk) and tix (tkx ?) packages should provide
this...

is this clearer now ? (is thsi correct english ? i'm not sure)

But in that case, it's just infrastructure, so why should you care?

True. What about tcl-interpreter and tk-interpreter then?

Cheers,

You don't need to. As a user, you install tk7.6 or whatever; on the other
hand a package maintainer, having first determined that his program will
work with any version of Tk, can simply depend on wish. One assumes someone
maintaining a package that depends on Tk will be familiar with it to at
least that extent.

Although it would clearly be better to have more obvious names, and
tk-interpreter seems like a perfectly good one, it is not terribly important
for virtual packages to have obvious names.

new virtual package: ups-monitor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi folks!

Brian suggested in Jan (in private mail to Warwick) that we should have an
ups-monitor virtual package. This name is already used by two packages,
genpower and upsd, so this is just for documentation.

Would someone mind if I add the following entry to the list of virtual
package names?

ups-monitorAnything that is capable of controlling an UPS

If noone objects, this will be added to the list of virtual package names.

Thanks,

Chris
