Bug#247118: libc6-dev: Definition of kill() missing when using -D_BSD_SOURCE

2004-05-03 Thread konqueror
Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-11
Severity: normal

I get a warning when compiling the following testapp:

#include sys/types.h
#include signal.h

int main(int argc, char **argv) {
kill(0,0);
return 0;
}

I use the this command line:

gcc -ansi -Wall -D_BSD_SOURCE -c killbug.c

The warning I get:

killbug.c: In function `main':
killbug.c:5: Warnung: implicit declaration of function 'kill'

In /usr/include/signal.h kill() is defined as follows:

#ifdef __USE_POSIX
extern int kill (__pid_t __pid, int __sig) __THROW;
#endif /* Use POSIX.  */

According to kill() manpage was defined on BSD 4.3 too.
This means it should be available with -D_BSD_SOURCE I think.

Is this correct ?

Michael

Bug#247120: libc6: adjust timeout for dns resolves

2004-05-03 Thread Stefan Meyer
Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-11
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

when my DNS server is unreachable my system needs several minutes to
boot because of the default gethostbyname timeout of 5 seconds.
And when I specify two DNS server it always contacts the first and waits
for its timeout before asking server two.

This is very annoying. Why are some simple options like timeout and
retrans (e.g. Solaris) not implemented in resolv.conf?

thanks
Stef

 Looking at fs/compat.c in 2.6.0-test11 I see the patch present in the

 Older glibc, like the 2.3.2-7.biarch1 version used for debian-amd64

 PPS: I will compile a 2.4.23 kernel and do the same tests next time I
 reboot just for good measure.

 Is this bug still alive, Goswin?

Bug#245643: libc6: problem with $kernel_ver in preinst

Goswin von Brederlow proposed the below pattern in #241395:

  kernel_rev=$(uname -r | sed 's/\([0-9]*\.[0-9]*\.\)\([0-9]*\)\(.*\)/\2/')

 I'm experiencing the problem as well because I have a customized kernel:

   $ uname -r
   2.4.20mh04

 Is there a workaround for this problem so that I can get libc6 installed?
 I'd like to manually modify the preinst script with the above kernel_rev
 line. It doesn't appear possible because dpkg extracts the preinst
 directly from the .deb. Is there a way to modify the preinst so that I
 can get past this problem?

 Thanks,
 - Mark

Install libc6 (which fails) and then upgrade it (install again).
Something like that should skip the test.

[cdebootstrap fails first when installing libc6 but manages to get it
installed properly at some stage in its run. Thats why I suggest the
above.]

I think this is not fixed, but merely suppressed by valgrind since so
few people are interested in it. Try valgrind -v to see which
suppression triggered.

Bug#247118: libc6-dev: Definition of kill() missing when using -D_BSD_SOURCE

2004-05-03 Thread konqueror
Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-11
Severity: normal

I get a warning when compiling the following testapp:

#include sys/types.h
#include signal.h

int main(int argc, char **argv) {
kill(0,0);
return 0;
}

I use the this command line:

gcc -ansi -Wall -D_BSD_SOURCE -c killbug.c

The warning I get:

killbug.c: In function `main':
killbug.c:5: Warnung: implicit declaration of function 'kill'

In /usr/include/signal.h kill() is defined as follows:

#ifdef __USE_POSIX
extern int kill (__pid_t __pid, int __sig) __THROW;
#endif /* Use POSIX.  */

Solaris) not implemented in resolv.conf?

thanks
Stef

Bug#245643: libc6: problem with $kernel_ver in preinst

  kernel_rev=$(uname -r | sed

 I'm experiencing the problem as well because I have a customized kernel:

   $ uname -r
